"Driver goes back to the table and he goes what the driver jersey take it. So people are coming over to congratulate you that what a drive was great and he was just getting. They're in the limelight with a big crowd around drivers smile on his face and classic. Yeah he can't make it up he every time there you go thanks for that driver that driver but anyway just a great guy and and every time i see him and i just think of that story so anyway we're going to end it on an up note. Nice nice our by appreciated well wreck a great job and start to build up again and We got as you mentioned. You got the turf festival coming up at the end of november and Dhamar you'll be getting your the race. What what do they got the philly rate because they got to two races this weekend but the court writes interesting real quick. The bob hope it's a seven furlong race for two year olds. Kind kinda like a. You know the starting to get to the winner. Let's get these sources cranked. Up and bob baffert has won this race ten times which is incredible five and run. You know twenty one ten times but this race is not a star make It's pretty wild i. I'm going to read to the tenure of now. I'm gonna be real quick that he's won this race and you're going to you're probably gonna go. Wow so ninety-six and excessive bull ninety seven committed size ninety eight premier property two thousand seven massive drama. Two thousand eleven brilliant. Two thousand twelve. Really mr greeley two thousand and thirteen. Ko's on those don't names. Don't jump off nikki. Get out your seat. Do you do they right now. Mastery wanted in two thousand sixteen and obviously matthew was we went on to win a couple of races. And then there's gonna be a real nice source you want two thousand eighteen which with mutual gustavo getting really do a whole three roles not just to win the big race As an older horse and then two thousand nineteen with high velocity so this race is not a star maker Historically so i don't. I don't look for any sources to be moving on down the road spielberg's in there for bob battered and This this just broke his maiden not too long ago has the best figure and everything else. Western kind gotta the you know the good horse root for the ryan hansen barn but Anyway just want to kind of go over that race and it's amazing. "Mcglaughlin have been their whole career so they in their east coast based so just looking at one through six who are all based out west and just kinda shows you how weird this this handicap divisions in America not only but also out in the west coast Considering many of these horses have been clamours sold at horses of racing obeyed sales just a very bizarre group of horses to say the least but nevertheless a good group or I'm not gonNA deny that it's a very talented group. Definitely all had very strange careers. I'm going to focus on the east coast forces because I think they're both more talented than Maybe not more talent. I should say more talented. I think they're as talented as the two west coast hopes here gift box midcourt. We talked about gift box extensively How we think he's how we think he's legit but we thought he was going to Saudi and he did and that gives me confidence that he's going to run big. Here is the highway though and gives eleven pounds to Hawford in endorsed which to me is kind of insane. Hockberg is no slouch at all to be carrying one hundred fifteen pounds which is actually less than the two thirty five. He's been very average eighties. California stakes races seems very disrespectful. To me I think cough break. This is make or break time for him for sure You know he's coming off a big layoff in the mine shaft which is why ag- knocked y kind of have to throw that race out and he's only ran two times since the fall of two thousand eighteen but when he puts his best foot forward. He's a very good horse. He's he was second in the Florida Derby and I As three year old and gave back that up a really good reason to Kentucky Derby just an awful trip and then the Belmont. He ran a really good third before he came back into chrome to win by. Maybe maybe ten weeks so I think he's a good worst nineteenth that he's getting to an optimal distance a mile quarter probably his best distance. So I I think it's just because I like hoffer lot now have that I'm denim citing within here but I just think that this race went in. I do like that flavor of Support Flavian. Pratt rides out of his mind every time he's at Santa Anita so I'm GonNa go Hockberg on top of Midcourt I don't know facing this kind of group is because we talk. We're going to give it to them. That was before we knew gift box in Hoffer in endurance. We're going to show up in the spot. We didn't know that we were going to give it to face off the back that none of those three showed up those three showed up. I think he's the best horse in this race so I'm GonNa Cau- On top and that's fairly gift box fairly being exciting gift boxes. I mean he is the class this. This west coast handicapped did and endorsed of youngest horse in the race. The only four year old which is pretty pretty weird to save at least in a great raid one race but he came back in the grocery mouths race in rain. Huge definitely underrated based off of the factory ranch fourth in the travers to starts back against the likes of Mutual Gustavo WHO WANNA PAY. His task disarranged huge last time out in the Saudi Cup and the winner of that race code honor. Who went onto win Jockey Club Gold Cup not to mention finishing ahead of some pretty solid horses as well so on. Go Hawks on top Over the Fox over endorsed Midcourt. Listen if those three weren't showing up I would. I would definitely given give him all the praise in the world but he's just not at that level so that's about it for this episode looking ahead to the next couple weeks we got to. Arkansas is coming up next week. Obviously the rebel big grade one race. We'll talk about that. We'll talk about all the stuff that happened this weekend. A one thing. That one other notable piece of information came out. This week is the annual nominations for the hall of fame. So if you remember back from the early days of this show over on Youtube I chronicled. All the cases looked at all the cases of the fever all the horses in all the people who are up for consideration law fame. We're going to do that again. This Year Eric. Split that up. Eric's going to do the horses that I did last year. and also he's going to take a look at my. Guy Doug O'Neill goes you know as much as I could put aside buys. It's much easier to to let eric do it So so those will be coming out over. The course of the time between This week and all the way up until the May sixth one when we find out who is inducted Hopefully we'll get we'll get into that toward that points or not really gonNa just wanted to mention that. We're not get into big hall of fame stuff on this show but we'll get to that down the road as well so that's coming up. We'll see you next week on racing run out..

"All right here we go. We're back on racing down today. Episode Number Fifty. We got a lot of stuff to get to today. Three fifty three fifty point preparations on the docket for this week. In one hundred Fifty Kentucky Derby points up for grabs three more horses will be on their way to Churchill. Downs weekend. There's also a bunch of other stakes around the country this weekend most notably the grade. Santa Anita Handicap. So we'll get to all those book. I we gotta get to the action from this past weekend in Saudi Arabia and the conversation is coming up at. I've seen it come up in multiple different areas is about the winner of the Saudi. Maximum Security You know that is probably the most the Kentucky Derby incident and you know. I'M NOT GONNA come on here and you know say that the Saudi Cup has anything to do with the decision that was made at Churchill. Downs or anything like that or argue that the disqualification now because he's one twenty million dollars. Saudi Cup shouldn't happen I I am not gonNA come on here. Make that argument I just off you know really looking at it. It's unfortunate that happened because maximum security is really just such a tough horse. And you know there's not enough good things you can say about maximum security and you know that raise really showed that maximum security is one of the best horses in the world and obviously right now. The leader of the pack in the United States for older horse. Right now and be really cool to see this horse competing for your old year and you know depending on where he goes from here. Obviously you know. They already mentioned that. He's not going to Dubai. But just where MAC security goes from. Here I'm excited to see that. And what he has in store you know. I'm sure Eric will have some of his things. Say about maximum security. But that's something not lost museum. Fortunate -ness of the disqualification at the Kentucky Derby. Because you know this is a really really fantastic horse for sure. I mean he's slowly and steadily starting to shed that tag of being the Horse Sector disqualified from the Kentucky Derby even though it will always remember that way. If you were to continue what you did last weekend easily going to be more remembered as one of the better horses heading into this decade in this early part of the century the obviously he's now ten million dollars in earnings in at this stage career. It's only getting go go higher. It'll be interesting to see where he gets brought back. I met in. Saratoga is kind of the midseason point. Four the connections there But honestly I think he's already cemented. His legacy added great horse. Just you know like cigar did way back when of when he won the inaugural Dubai World Cup. Maximum security is going to be able to say the same thing for the Saudi Cup where he'd be a really good group of Horses. I might add Definitely was not lighten any sense I think every horse for the most part Ranta form in the Saudi Cub ibew. Probably the biggest surprise people contend but definitely not be By a quarter of a lengthy Iran. Huge She's also in so many other horses from the race but maximum security Kind of a rough trip was definitely a target especially for teas on Mutual Gustavo. Louisa has had to get created down the stretch. But you work down in that. Horses has tons and tons of heart. I don't really know I've seen a horse. Who Does Not WanNa let him worse by like maximum security does. It's quite impressive. How this works bears down to every time he races and I just think I I I think we all know. He's in pre twenty twenty if he stays healthy yeah. That was another thing that I didn't quite get that opening. Bid Is the fact that you know. Maximum security did all that won the race while Iran Ortiz was basically writing interference. I made the comment to Eric Baxter. Excuse jokers still out there kind of looked like a NASCAR and now you can say all you want about. How you know. Probably wasn't the best rider. You didn't have good character of Iraqis. I thought it was a good strategy on his part to do what he could to be. Maximum security obviously probably definitely in this country If he would probably would have been disqualified but I thought it was good on his part to do his best to win. Win The race. And try to keep maximum-security away because I don't think I if you run that race normally maximum-security just goes by with the rules over there. They run category One rules which unlike in America the disqualification rules are if you preventing a worse from running their best race. You get disqualified. There is. That's worse when when you run interference or not so if mutual Gustavo Iraqis does dat but the horse wins by Lincoln half. It's not a problem. Give what was within the rules so it was a good ride? Bhai Iran It was definitely a little malicious. I certainly Jason Service not lease with IRA. Teaser was on the first things. He made a comment about after the race. In the in an interview shortly after On national television I might add But at the same time that's I mean the races aren't one you know like a track meet where you can necessarily go between the lane. This horse racing and that kind of stuff can fly to an extent maybe a little over the edge. I think especially when acting security job inside. I really started to hurt an inside but I was happy that I read never intentionally drew contact although he was doing some blocking like you said NASCAR ask He never intended to make contact which I think was probably the safest thing and when he when he knew the horses about to go by he kind of backed off on trying to get through so are running more interference so while maybe was maybe a little militias It definitely was good race riding on his part all right so that. That's it for this stuff with the Saudi Cup Stripping back over Cross sees out before we get to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks preparations that you want to highlight a Horse Zulu al folk who is turning into his own. You know I will highlight at about this point last year. This is were bricks and more bricks and mortar was not not saying that Zulu Alpha is going to be the next bricks mortar. Or anything like that. But you know he could do similar things to where it's very likely he's going to do similar things to what bricks and mortar didn't very likely that this is probably the top tier force in the United States. This year. You know at this point last year. Bricks and mortar was a great one Winnipeg World Cup turf and and then he had a great to race. I believe it was either at fairgrounds are one of the tracks Louisiana so to this point Zulu Alpha grade one winner Pegasus World Cup turf now. He's agreed to winner The Mac Ramadan down at Gulfstream. This past weekend. I think Zulu Alpha's in for a really strong really really strong two thousand twenty Keep your eye on him. Come for race like the turf classic the Kentucky Derby Undercard. That's where I would him go but not saying Zulu Alpha is an expert in order. But I'm not saying that he isn't either into Rena. Bricks and mortar was able to have consistent success last year is because all the worst is behind him weren't consistent. I mentioned on the show last week. That Group of forces that Zulu Alpa was facing. He actually used to be a part of that group they never were able to consistently put together strong back. That rates it's bricks. Mortar took it to a new level. Easily able to string together back Multiple consecutive good races in a row. And that's what God in his horse of the year title. And if these keep going the weather going is do. The wealth is going to be able to do the same thing last year Even though I was Kinda surprised after neier introduced the Turks Trinity Series that no horse really emerged from that as premier career force and to be chair. I mean we see that with Dirt horses as well on the on the Derby trail. They don't always shape out after the triple crown trail to be good and that kind of creates inconsistencies in the handicapped division like we saw maybe back Towards the end of maybe before the end of two thousand seventeen that you're got stronger as it went on but nevertheless China look into Alpa. Maybe like an expert in order. I wouldn't be surprised because once again the turf division isn't strong and If I'm going to throw one out there vitality is probably the best grass three year old male out there And I know. The connections are keen. Distract him out so he could be wanted content we know. He has loads talent. So at this point Zulu Alpha is primed at least stay home maleter force because so far. There are no challengers within a mile oven.

"Well look country. Grammar has massive dirt spread right the Which means the horses going to becoming faster than the rest of these So certainly certainly value valuable. Dennis's moment I think is going to get over back as seen on. Tv is going to have to prove that as seen on TV and chances are similar in nature and so what winds up happening. When you bet you bet one you have to bet both right and now you're increasing your bet size with two favorites underneath right so this signals like this would be an opportunity for a win. Bet maybe for Eight I Indian or maybe exact back and forth but for me I would say country Grammar and shot Sqi more interesting than the two others than Dennis's moment as seen on TV or chance it now. We've talked about six horses. That could compete here. You can't do a six box. Maybe if we liked the bottom six of you can do really. Yeah not not when you're giving out for top free right place three on top over six underneath. You're cutting into your prophet and I don't never agree. I mean you gotta eat today. Could make a stand right. Make a stand and you know. It's a long term expectation and You know make a stand with your opinion. I guess I'll just Trust you and make it a pass line. Exact for me seven eleven. Yeah seven eleven. What are you get back on that? Typically afford a one right now. What is the? What is your pay eight to one? Oh Yeah Yo is a ron probably knows better than us. You must not know it though. Usually I get a quick tax What is Yo- it's thirty? Two one for two twelve so probably fifteen to one. This is look if worst runs big in this race I wouldn't bet back and I think eight Indians got as good a chance a better chance than the rest of the field and the morning line. Prices is edible for me. I'm not looking to get greedy by can get seventy two one who on push all right. We've talked about maybe doing the Saudi Cup. No information there is somewhat sparse but do have numbers for the Americans happen to get to it. Yeah we can. I can just pull them up as we talk about What do you want to start with? Maximum security yeah. I mean he's he's find that pin starting and ending point for me only because I happen to think he's the best horse in training and he's currently a A touch over five to international international markets. Eleven to four and I reached out to some people to see if they could get me down because I just I think he's better than everyone else. Yeah last two races. The race at Belmont was a new paste. Up Eighty came back docked at a mile and ran seventy six soft pattern meeting in hand. Hasn't found like we haven't seen the best of maximum security from pace figure perspective. But he's got he's got more upside than downside and looks to be trending forward so his an. He's going to be an exciting Orson. I didn't realize that's the price of not seems like it's a pretty generous figure for him. Yeah well part of that. Reason is they are betting McKinsey and Mutual Gustavo. Who is the Baffert duo McKinsey seen since the Breeders Cup? Classic runner-up to Roseau Mitchell Cousteau Believe of all these is run. Most recent which I was the Pegasus Cup win any any clues with either of them which Gustavo's got a wide dirt spread his fast any scattered. Big Dirt spread Remind me how far they're going to one turn. Yeah I mean is I could see why he's getting action. It looks a little bit slower and maybe off top but you can't. You can't really not which occurs go figure out Mackenzie standby we've of course search feature that if you if you sign up you can search individual horses which is Kinda cool article. Yeah because he's going the wrong way I would say McKinsey and if you look at his fingers is so check out. His last five figures final figures. She Ready Eighty Five. Eighty three eighty one. Seventy eight seventy four and if you were to grasp at our own way and if you graph that out which we have a feature where you can just look at grass if people are visual and they just WanNa look at the way of worship trending. It's the wrong way. Oh Yeah from a figure perspective unbeatable. What is because these odds Believe three to one yet. There's my throw out. We're not been saying she's just not fast enough right. If not fast enough in going the wrong way seventy nine. Seventy five seventy one. Last final figures looks to be trending down again if you were to look at midnight be sues visual since a Belmont in the summer of last year. Eighty one seventy six seventy nine seventy five seventy one slow trend the wrong way. So that's that's how you know. Remember predict the forum is is a pattern based algorithm rights so it looks for courses in its sorts through data to determine horses that are going to move forward or regress. It doesn't necessarily inside one number speed figure so it allows you to look at a worse without the odds without jockey without the distance or anything. Just compare these horses across the board and see whether horses moving the right direction wrong direction of course can going the wrong direction and still win or can be going the right direction and still loose but the foundation of the analysis and the math says if the horses going the wrong direction even if it reverses its form. It's still not going to be fast enough in this to win so I would say with midnight. Be Su And also Mackenzie their their short horses. Odds wise that looked to be heading the wrong direction that even with a forward move are not going to be fast enough for us to back. And that's that's what you look for in handicapping trying to pick a winner is not necessarily getting to the winner but finding some favorites that you can push to the side. That's my rant of the day I'm sticking to it. Beating favorites is definitely the.

"I got a question for James? It's about Turf Park. I don't know how much he knows about what's going on there but I know it's me that they're thinking about tearing down or not thinking about they are tearing down the grandstand but they're talking as the fixing the race track using the Peta and it sounds like they're gonNA run next. Meet up there. How awful without a great Dane Brian? I'm not aware about the grandstand renovation. I just know about the The track You know they're going to Peta. They WANNA keep the Artificial they want to keep this synthetic surface air for the winner. That paulie track was old and had to be replaced and so they went with the Takata but I wouldn't wear the grandstand renovation. That's not gonNA happen before. The current MITO opens. Are you saying it's I mean if they're going to start building on it you're saying before the the meat starts like in early December again next year? Yeah so what I've read so Chip Bok who's the general manager? Up there what He. He came out with a statement. I think last week saying that at the end of this meat. Which is the winner meet? They're gonNA tear down the grandstands but they also said they're removing the synthetic surface and Putting in the Tha Peta which will be ready for the next week starting in December well the grandstands that the new ones that they're building won't be finished until summer of twenty twenty one so I'm trying to figure out. I think they would have a meat. I think they would just do it in stage development. I mean because that's one thing at least with Churchill if you look at it every single year they're doing like some renovation project and I mean you know. I I would just think it's going to be in steps where they're gonNA do Part of the grandstand and Go from there because that you know their window is seven months. Approximately from the win. The meat winner meet. It opens a concludes to other by the current. Meet concludes to winter meet opens. Yeah that makes sense but I got a question for both y'all Kind of a kind of a historical type thing. What is one race? Track that y'all would've loved to visit before your time. That's no longer around. And what would you have liked to seen? That was before your time also Good questions call Brian. I'M GONNA go with Jamaica Racetrack because it's the only track of New York. I didn't really get to go to that was about four miles from my house What was going on the fifties sixties and so this is kind of a I'm gonNA say Seattle slew because I was one so that Kinda doesn't count would like to have been around to see Slough I'll just say I watch Seattle Slew Kentucky Derby replay. Before I answer that question real quick and I mean the fact that he missed the break leggy did in that race and then drove his way through traffic and came into hand for Koo. Koo Gay going on the backstretch it looked like he would have liked sprint. Six furlongs at one. Oh seven flat that day and the fact that he got a mile quarter just blows you away. I mean he's still sea horses run like he did like an early stages you can watch that derby no way go past the finish on the first time does he looked like he's going to last them on a quarter and he just keeps going and going and going those. That was a great. I mean I look back at like the old early days I I would have liked to have seen a horse like worlwide run or somebody like that. That was like a legendary performer. I mean I would`ve. I would've liked to been around when citation was winning his races or native diver Those are a couple of candidates you know that were just like legendary performers at the time and and people forget about how big they were in the sport. Because I'm not old enough to remember a secretariat but I remember watching the Secretary Derby. I'm a little bit older than you. Big As far as a track. That is closed. Boy that's a good one You know I don't even know if I can even mentioned one. I mean there's a couple out there just from historical standpoint like I wouldn't mind going and seeing Bay meadows before closed and You know some tracks like that. That's a good one. That's going back out to the phone lines. We Go Charles in Mississippi Charles. I'm an welcome to the prison at DOT COM Paulin. Shown Jasni me down memory lane. Big Gay said it again. I said that question about seeing a great horse run. Just take me down memory lane. I saw secretariat run a PIMLICO and I use this older gentleman that I'm mad at Jefferson downs in the early seventies and I was working I was like twenty three and I was working at night and he called me up and he said would you like to go to see secretary run at Pimlico after we watch the Derby and I say yeah. That's I don't know my way to get to Baltimore. He said I knew it. Like the back of my hand so We took off and there were no interstates that time. Big Gay and We got lost nineteen times. I've said shorty. I says I thought you knew your way. I say what has changed as World War? Two and you hadn't been here since world. War Two is When I we were in the I was right there on the The Front When I saw you make that move on the first time I've never seen a horse. He's just It just took your breath away last the first Charles I was incredible. You know and y you know. I've seen a lot of great horses run Alydar. I saw him and the the oaklawn handicap In seventy nine. But of course you got beat on. He'll be but I got a question. We all maybe. I'll I'll help me in that Saudi Cup Saturday. Y'All like Mackenzie at all and I'll hang up and listen. Thank you got it I do so I like tacitus. I'm Kinda married to Tacitus at the price you know. I do believe that. Going over there without the lasix and the eighth one turn you know. There's a lot of a lot of question marks going over there. And I I just feel like you gotta you got a better price. Philly got a better price and tasks to be a better price and all those horses I feel of the favorites. Mckinsey has the best chance. I don't like maximum security for a quarter And I don't really love Mutual Gustavo but Mackenzie's Kinda horse I think the mile and I think the one turn just allows them to settle in kind of pounce on them. So if you told me you know listen I'm betting tacitus horse that can give you another worse. The only two horses I th. I would bet in the race would be tacitus partially because I'm married to him in the price I do think he's GonNa run very well But if you told me I had one of the three or four favorites I would bet mackenzie I'd like to see Tha I was tested this preparation. I mean running in that race. He had run since the Jockey Club. Gold Cup I thought that was a solid effort but it was September. Twenty seven th or twenty nine or something. I would like to see him have a prep. Because I think tacitus has such a norma subside. People forget he'd only run four times before he ran in the Derby and I think he's Kinda horse it's really going to. You know can be good if war. I just think it's unfortunate. He's running into all these hard hitters like massive security McKinsey and Mutual Gustavo. I think it's the same deavere midnight beasts. Do they committed her to this race after the Breeders Cup or shortly after it? And they they. I mean these other horses might have been under consideration but They had to be bummed out to see him all. Come over there because that just just destroys any chance. She might have had a running of really being a serious factor. But you know I I've already said earlier. I like Mutual Gustavo. Answer that question from Charles. I I do think It'll be interesting to see. What the differences between McKinsey and Magoo Mitchell Guzzo and price? So Yeah I. I don't know if there's going to be much difference. I don't think maximum-security it'll be the favourite. I think they'll be the second and third choices and I think everything else is kind of up in the air. As far as the tote board goes.

"You know these morons standing out there. <hes> you know basically dictated this in all all the all the pressure that the sport is under right now had a figure something out something to do. Even though the first two races went off fine <hes> I think I think one one horse had tied up in the in the paddock or so that way yeah with the day <hes> but yes and I don't know I it it was it was brutally hot but I remember like I texted you. You texted me during the during the with with Dennis Yeah Yeah well when I see why covered you forty nine or seeking the gold the temperature was one hundred degrees and I remember at twelve o'clock and a cab had a amateur writers raise that they start off you now before the first grace so I I watched that race and this is like you know eleven thirty in the morning or something like that before the first race and I remember walking from the rail back to into grandstand end the top of my head. It was burning hot. It was it literally was burning this is this is when I didn't wear hats when I actually had hair I had exposed head and my head was absolutely burning. It was so high but it and I remember by like twelve o'clock. It was like ninety nine and went up over one hundred and then forty nine hundred seeking the goal got into the most incredible scratch tool I've ever seen I mean it was just gut wrenching Grad school from like the five sixteenths bowl for the wire and you know I mean you know it happens. I mean yeah maybe after the race day you know they hose them. All down and I went back acted barn where we you know what was back there with <hes> with forty nine hundred forty nine three fans going on but your time and seeking that went over to seeking the gold who was in next bar and he was being you know hose down <hes> yeah I don't like it but you know it was is one thing they ran the race. I mean there was never ever any sort of postponing eight or cancelling it or anything. Just nothing you don't WanNa see but it's <hes> but if there but under the times we live in now Momma did what they had to do <hes> and they got ray side of it. So <hes> you know obviously was much cooler than it was getting dark but I listen I I loved the result I mean I thought <hes> maximum security. Racing needs the three year old crop and sport needed him to do that. I mean we need somebody especially in front of his hometown crowd. <hes> you know everybody everybody on the Jersey Short and he loves his horse. You loved him. Obviously because of what what happened in the Derby you know which started off the whole Shakespearean aspect to this but you know to get disqualified <hes> and everything that went along with it you know with lawsuits and everything and the craziness but you know everybody and then he comes back and he gets be in the prep race but he had to me that was there was nothing to that ray I mean he stumbled coming from the start. He needs desperately needed the race and you know I thought you many good race. He just got beat cooking food. They ran an excellent race so it was great to see and I thought he was beat. I felt mutual. Gustavo had him be he looked like he had the momentum and that was their bathrooms going to have his ninth Paschal and till she maximum security dig in was very very gratifying. I didn't like the way he looked. I didn't like the way trained then he didn't run well, and I'm not looking for any, you know, congratulations for that, but he had the weirdest schedule of almost any derby horse have ever seen. He came off a layoff from September to March in. He he runs an allowance race. Any wins it with a ninety six prisoners. Pete. Figure comes back in the sand needed derby runs took us off and wins that with a ninety eight and it's no wonder to me that he looked so skinny and drawn going into the derby. I mean, that's just kind of crazy right to ridiculously hard races off allay off and then going in the derby. So now here we are, like forty five days later, or whatever I mean how? Could he be any better? How could he be rejuvenated and up to speed? Yeah. I would I just don't get it. I mean for me, I think Gustavus the, the horse to beat. I think he's, he's fast early. He's fast late. He can he can run long. You know, I don't count the someone derby against them. He finished third in there at ninety cents on the dollar. I thought that was ridiculous that there were some other horses in the race that had done more than him. But he still ran good. I, I'm gonna take the speed on the outside to town was going to go. "Mean I couldn't look any better. So, yeah, I, I don't know. She's, she's got a shot, absolutely daughter, Carlin. Like can she win? Kassy's woman somewhere look back third time in about six weeks. She ran well, first time all weather to back that was off of a six month break six and a half month break came back and didn't want to well in the Nassau, he's also she's always struggled to find her identity to she's run well enough on all surfaces. I give her a little bit of a shot and the Cassie that one last time. She's the berries. She's one four over last five five of nine overall, the pita, she's been a different horse. It's more Cassie took her over you. Gotta respect to. It's a wide open race. Like you said, I'll make. I feel like Dixie moon is the quote unquote class of the race. And the race is wide open this. That's what home only gravitate to. On the all weather more from the night gravitate towards the speed. We both know this, but the all weather I don't really necessarily. Not necessarily the play. Is it now? It's not necessarily the play I'll take Dixie loom. But again, I think when I named seven horses between this literally but it's legitimately that kind of race right? Yeah. No, it's, it's, it's an all box, it's. Yeah. Miss. Momentum was the favorite in this race last year. She didn't run two steps. But I mean there's, there's a case to be made for her as well. So it's a tough race tough tough race. Good luck with it. I'll try to before Dixie moon, as my copy, it goes race number eight, the Trillium out, the Santa Anita we go to possibly perfect amount of quarter on the turf for the Phillies in mass. Vate would you lend Jude? Well, I took Siberian iris thought her last race was good. I like Rafeal bay Hirano on her. He's got those nice soft hands. And I think that's what she needs. She doesn't want to be fought with. She just wants to, you know, let her litter settle in and make a run. I think Rafeal fits like a glove. I think Murph has a chance. She was another one that, that, that I was interested in, she gets Martin Garcia. He's been on a little bit of tear lately. She's by Colonel John to which I always partial to those and pants on fire impressive last time winning the Astra steaks. But that was in January. She's been awful while, so I don't know what the deal was with that, if they just decided to space races, or if she had an ailment or something, but she's capable of winning. This race starts on the on the downhill. So you get a little little edge. If you're a speed horse, and I think that aids Merced chances quite a bit. All right. I like confidential confidentially. Confidentially a lot to last three on the turf. The one she got beat off the two month break with the bug. Boy, it's a tricky course to ride. I don't think they write racist long enough. This Philly I like confidentially, a lot, a lot in recession the possibly perfect will wrap it up in the affirmed rate three mile and a sixteenth for the three year olds. Bob baffert. Well, represented say the least he's got half of the Sixers in this field. Qinglian post four roadsters in the five mutual Gustavo out and hope six. Yeah. "Anyway. Yeah, he he's a very good horse. And he's run some fast speed figures. And you know, there's certain things to like about him. He's horse. She can't just throw out. He's one by open links. I have to question the competition. He's been facing. But but he certainly is a is a talented horse and not not one to sneeze at. So there's there's good horses in in both races. I mean. Gunmetal grey. He's a longer shot in his division race number ten. He's in the second division with game winner, but ten to one on the morning line. Here's a horse that is a great estates. When are having won the sham to starts back at Santa Anita. And then last time out second behind mutual Gustavo in the great three Robert b Lewis and bring up those two horses in particular because we are going to be joined right around eight thirty five eastern by the hall of fame trainer. Jerry Holland door to talk about those two, and he'll also weigh in by the way on the situation at Santa Anita. And some of the news coming out of there this past week, which we will have plenty of discussion about over the course of the next two hours but gun metal grey. I've said it before he's one of my favorite horses in training. I think he's a legit horse. And it'd be interesting to see how he handles himself today at Oaklawn park. He had no chance to win the rubber balloons outweigh the ratio up. And he ran a terrific race. I know he got beat four and three quarter links by mutual Gustav, but Muccio Guzzo pretty much, you know, had the race to who. Upfront and gunmetal Grey's never gonna win a race wouldn't a horse goes wire-to-wire because it's not going to be him. Yep. Has a tremendously turn of foot and his race was excellent. It was it was a terrific race in. He's a horse to be reckoned with for sure. So yeah, it's it's nice to see him in there. He's he's got talent Omaha beach one by nine leagues for Richard Mandell. He came back and worked one ten in three Alameda, that's very unmanned della liking has a ton of speed and a lot of talent. And he had a quarter crack they patched that. He's been training great ever since. And we'll see what happened. If you're wondering about the way the points were divided for the two divisions. The winner of each of those divisions will be awarded thirty eight points toward a spot in the starting gate of the Kentucky, Derby place, fifteen third place eight and fourth place, we'll get four points, and that's four that's the same for both divisions. So so the winner. Essentially punching their ticket to the Kentucky Derby, even though they won't get the big points total they're going to get thirty eight and for most of these horses. Many of them already have point. So they'll add that to their total and that should be enough to get them in. So it's it's virtually a winning you're in in two divisions today. Yeah, it's hard to believe that thirty points wouldn't get you into yet it typically that's the number. I mean, it's well above the number that you would need to get into the starting gate that may be the only points race being run today for the Kentucky Derby, but it is not necessarily the only Kentucky, Derby prep, the private terms. Stakes up at laurel is another race, featuring the three year olds and features a pretty good horse in always mining who's going to be the heavy favourite. They're four to five on the morning line. "The race that Los Alameda different track and a and a long stretch run. So, you know, maybe, you know, maybe. On a different kind of oval that race turns out a little different. We'd have to see but Mutuel Gustavo. Did he jump up past improbable off of that effort? No. I don't think. So gunmetal grey alerts what he's going to be solid, but not the tackler, and he kind of did his things from coming off to face. The thing. I worry about though is on a track. Like what we saw. At Santa Anita on Saturday. You know, you had the horse pool up kid canteen in the race gunmetal grey came back with some burned down seat, and and some source. You haven't they come out of this race? It's really a watch the work tab situation. You wanna see mutual Gustavo back in, you know, ten fourteen day something like that to the workout fab and what we'll do it really reminded me. And I write about this in countdown. I wrote the review of the race yesterday. You'll see in Friday's edition. This really reminded me a lot of consolidators went in the San Felipe bay go Google that when you to it back in two thousand five was a award for delay. Lucas who really through a wet track? Ran a race. Like this was never the same again. And that's that's what I'm a little bit of of with Mutuku. So how does he come out of this race? It'll be interesting moving forward, but he fast he can handle that I over trip. He's in the right hand. He's got the great pedigree Mutuel. Macho man no reason why he can't go on. There's nothing not to like as long as he keeps moving forward. Some thoughts. Jeremy before we talk about the Sam Davis and the San vicinity any thoughts about some of those maiden winters and some of the other non steak players, including the performance, the -ticipant it performance of Omaha beach that was kind of a long time coming, but that Mandela will jump him into stay company. And of course, Mandela and Samantha Siegel. They gotta be excited as well. Because the hope forget his first extra extra hope clearly a horse that's going to get a steak bow. Yeah. You know, what we're looking for somebody else in the west coast. I mean, you know, Baffert's get a bunch of you know, how to budge doesn't Neal's kind of trying to find the right horse horse for Doug on the to keep an eye on Dovid. He won on the turf sprinting that raises come back to be really key passing third form. I wouldn't be shocked. If he stuff is makes them somewhere down the line below that cost in California. But the two that you thought about Mandela very impressive last week. You know, Omaha beats the really wet track that always you know, that that always inflates the wind margin. We talked about that almost every single week on your show. But that was an impressive liberal breakout? Is we like to say, you know, second second second bam. And then when they win they just blow the seal off the darn thing. Nola contest or should beat him. Last time was the one who scratched out of the out of the Lewis. Because of the track condition is obviously flattered by the performance there, Omaha beach, and like you said, you know, next stop for that one would be stakes company. Definitely I think one that we wanna keep an eye on you know, and we've..

"I remember Gary Jones who would would go running down to the rail. I would be standing with Jerry Jones that he'd go. You know, we'd be talking and he'd have his stop watching his hand. And we'd be sitting in standing in front of the grandstand, and like Lakeway or somebody who would be working, and they get to the top of the stretch and Jones would say, oh, she's going to fast or she's going to slow at he'd run right down to the rail and start yelling at the writer waiting his arms, and certainly may came up with a better plan than than that in terms of being able to talk to these guys because you know, especially when you're close to race boy, the work get screwed up. I mean that can really impact the performance in the race. So. Like, I say that forty six in change I thought, wow, what is going on there? And my suspicions were confirmed that it wasn't what mcpeek was looking for in terms of that it was too fast. But like I say we got plenty of time to use. Oh, that's not not the end of the world there for him. But so I thought that brighter him in per Muto Gustavo I thought that really flattered improbable because while Muccio goose does a very nice Colt, and he's a mutual macho man, so he's gonna I don't think distance is a problem for him. And remember Mutuel macho man was a June Foale, and he was kind of a late Newmar? He won the Breeders Cup Laden classic Laden his life. And so I think we're only scratching the surface here with this mutual Gustavo. But at this point when he ran against him, probably in the Los Alameda territory. I mean, it was no contest probable just drilled him. So, you know, Mutuel Gustavo to me at this point is got the, you know, continue to move forward to catch up. To improbable. And and I mean Bamford sitting there with game winner and improbable over there. I mean, you talk about a powerful one two punch in my book. I mean that ad is extremely strong, and then Instagram has really coming along here very nicely. I was wondering about the San vicinty is a possibility for him, and it so it was interesting when Bamford told you that yesterday or yet yesterday that he said that, you know, maybe he'll show up there. So you can that shows the respect that Baffert has for Instagram that he's watching him that closely. And boy you remember back to those two wins last summer by Instagram. We're just breathtaking really I thought so whether or not he shows up in the same Sinti, I've heard, you know, through the grapevine that they're looking for the San Felipe bay. So, you know, whether he pops up in that same vicinity, I don't know. But boy if it turn. Turns out that Instagram mixes two thousand nineteen debut in the San Felipe a on in early March. That's on March the look at the calendar March ninth and game-winners pointing for that race, man. What are what a race that would be? If you had both the defeated game winner in the end defeated instrument and in that race both of the making the first of the year. So we'll have to see if that turns out to be the case or maybe this Instagram does show up in the same sentence for Hollander improbable looking apparently toward the rebel possibly right now as the as the as the goal John let me finish up get Jeremy Plotkin here for countdown to the crown. I appreciate it. And we'll talk to you from Vegas on Monday. Certains goodbye, by the way, one quick thing. I wanted to say listening to mcpeek yesterday. "However, eighty percent chance of rain Saturday. Wow. Though that is something to keep in mind at this point that we might get more rain this Saturday, which would be a real shame. Well, and you yesterday Baffert of joined us the in the third hour, and we actually little late getting to him. But we got quite a bit of ground covered with them, including the work. He's doing with Coliseum. I wanted him to talk about the the bit that they're working on with them. They put a citation been on them and trying to get this horse to respond to writer -struction, we caught up with a new cat then. But he was worried he he had the had improbable over on the training track and horse got loose on the training track. And he was he'd let us know yesterday that it was raining again. And so he kept improbable off the main track it it. This is this is difficult to timing is the timing is bad. And I was gonna ask you if you'd heard any any news from the Sadler camp about no contest. Oh, scratching out of what was going to be important the confrontation with with the mutual Gustavo and with gun metal grey in the in the Bob Lewis, instead mutual Guzzo, you know, pretty much dominated from the front end. Some thoughts about Saturday that front. Well, I haven't heard anything on noble contest. Oh, although the horse he beat when he earned his maiden diploma. Certainly look good over the weekend as Omaha beach. I mean, he'd had a case the second Itis, and he certainly found the cure for that. Whether it was the the wet sloppy track or the competition and or both. But boy, I mean going down the MAC side. He looked like he was just rolling along beautifully and got a ninety buyer his buyer equalled Muccio does in the robber be Louis that I was very impressed with that Omaha beach. I think Richard Mandell has got something to be pretty excited about with that one. And that's not the only good three year old in that Mandela Marne at this point is. "And then making the sequence Johnny impossible for small people that that I take issue with. What what difference between whatever's? Because what happened to Santa Anita is. Then in need it not enough to make it good. Yeah. You would like that. But yeah, this is mine. I mean what what happened on Saturday and undoubtedly don't forget don't forget. I if no low contest, oh doesn't scratch out of that Lewis. Everybody's got use to at least a second horse. If those I singled Muccio Gustav with that point. I'm sure other people went to mutual Gustavo in gun metal grey and other people would have had to use three horses. So that would have changed. That's why. When when who was it that asked me the other day what I thought the pool a hammer asked me on Friday what I thought the pool might be. And I said, I don't think it'll be as big as as some people want to think it's going to be just because there were some places to go narrow so and and it turned out you could go even more narrow in that particular, you know in the Louis as. That and mutual Gustav to you pays advantage under the wet drag conditions that made it difficult to conceive him getting beat. I mean, truly it's back to what I said a little bit earlier Jaffer look to races and say is their chance to K off. It's going to happen in this race. Not not because I want to happen. You know, if Baffert three year old this is got speed. He's. Santa Anita the plot. He's. Because if you go deep. Let me let me save year. You got cracks key can't have mall. "Hi, my name is Shawn Bridgman high in at least into cooperation radio. That what everybody's doing cross the country is trying to figure out how to get the performance that they need to get the points to get to the derby. But not go with top. Let's face it. We we all talk about it in the industry every year about trying to make a decision to go to the the Preakness Belmont. Could you have a Colt better shoot for one of those two races? But that never works that never works. I mean, you you just the the draw the attraction of Durban for the vast vast majority of is, all encompassing. And it's too strong of of the force vector you go elsewhere. If you're in a position to to get into the field of twenty. So it's amazing. What the derby does to all of us. And I'm just really I I'm sure we all are. We're just glad that it's part of business. It really gives us something to look forward to for the first five months of every single year. That's terry. Finley from West Point thoroughbreds talking about that lure of the Kentucky Derby, and it's just something that if you have a horse that's on the derby trail, it's something that is Terry said is all encompassing. And he has a horse on the trail right now that has gun metal grey Terry joined us that sound bite coming from his interview on the same program right before gunmetal grey won the sham January fifth and did it very impressively. Stand himself as a contender on the road to the Kentucky Derby at that point. He has to continue that progression later today in the Robert Louis stakes at Santa Anita. And case you're wondering that is one of three derby prep races on the docket today. Each of them offering the winner ten points for victory. The Robert b Lewis grade three mile and a sixteenth on the main track and it comes up at five fifty three eastern. That's two fifty three out on the west coast race number six on that program. At Santa Anita today. Yeah. It's very interesting race it kind of at first glance it looks like three horses that that are major contenders. In the other three are just kinda like field fillers, obviously mutual gustavo's going to attract most of the attention being from the Baffert stable. He's won two out of three raises. His two victories came sprinting six seven for a long and then he stretched out at Los Alamos. And then Los Alamos futility finished second to improbable who's a very good horse. So it was it wasn't a bad effort. He got a very nice ninety five prisoners speed figure, and you know, he looks like he could actually make the lead in the air and go all the way there's not a tremendous amount of speed in in this race. No contest, though to his outside is also a horse. It's developing he sprinted once. Finish fifth came back going mile. That's to turn while at Santa Anita and he won nicely with ninety four. He's by pioneer the Nile out of congrats Mary's bread to run all day and into the night. And you know, he's he's got Joe Rosario back aboard for the third straight time. John Sadler trains him. He's a contender. And then gun metal grey who will either be the favorite or second choice by virtue of his win in the sham stakes. Now, he's been showing a tendency to fall back early in his races which concerns me because it was already raining Santa Anita. At six o'clock this morning, and if the track comes up sloppy and sealed if he if he falls back like he hasn't been doing he may have a lot to do. He's shown some speed in the past and maybe Mike Smith will try to keep him closer. But I don't know how that will affect his close with one thing that will help him on a wet track is that pedigree being by exchange rate of an include mayor should have no problem handling the wet surface. Yeah. He should..

"This one broke his maiden around two turns last time in his second. Start. Those are the three leading hate the money the inside three will be longer shots, but you land here. This was this was an interesting race. Besides for me for those outside three runners. Yeah, I think Muccio goose gonna make an easy lead. And that's going to spell trouble for the rest of the field. If. If you look at this race, others really not much speed in here. I mean, you see easy shot. He he has little bit. He was running for claiming price. I'll be eighty and a hundred magnificent Makul his interior pace numbers are slow Lucho Gustavo. He he can he can bring it. He's got good speed. He can also finish in his late pace numbers are getting better eighty eight ninety one ninety three. So that's that's pretty solid in this field. No contest. Oh has a ninety eight ninety seven late pace numbers. But his his early pace numbers. He can't keep up with mutual Gustavo. So he's gonna have to utilize his energy a little earlier if he's going to win this race. You know, it's kind of. Easy to pick Baffert in a scene the Nida derby prep race. But I mean, I don't see who can change Muccio Guzzo early. And if he gets a loan f- kind of lead the closers aren't gonna win gunmetal Grey's gotten into a really back early on. I would be concerned about him. If I was training that he's he's kind of getting into a come from the clouds kind of mode. You know? I'm very curious. See I don't necessarily think if if mutual Gustav wants to lead his and he can be two or three in front now you and I are a little old school. If I were Bob Baffert and Joe Talamo. That's what I would do. I would try to bottom this field out the problem with that is, you know, you're not really worried about winning the the Bob Lewis trying to win the Kentucky Derby. So I don't know if that is beneficial to him for the long run and Bob Africa, one of the best getting ready for the first day. So I don't think that will be I don't think those will be the instructions. I it's very hollow contest those speed because in his first starting to sprint. He got. The limited at the start. Joel lost irons. He got bothered leaving out of that from the rail. And that was it and the next time they stretch him out. And he's you know, he's laughed onto the leaders. He's never wanted to Lenz from the league. Now, they didn't go as fast as you would think which goose owes gonna go. But if I'm right, and they don't let mutual who. Gustavo fires fastest. He should early gonna drag a horse like no low contestant into the race. Easy shots. Not really without speed. I don't know what the plan was last time. He. Comments is chased. He wasn't really chasing. You know? He wasn't far off it when he broke his maiden for the eighty thousand. He's just not very good. And I don't know if you go very far, right? But that doesn't stop him from running for a half mile. See that's weird. Even if they blast him off. I mean, I just think goose oh has more natural speed. I mean, I don't think they have to like go hell bent for leather. Joe Talamo doesn't have to send this horse. I think just gonna fall into the lead and certainly resort is not going to gun for the leader doesn't need to. He can sit off mutual Gustavo. I mean, he's he's probably the horse to beat. You know for mutual goose oh to worry about because you're one hundred percent, correct. He he doesn't come from the clouds. He can stay closer up. He's going to be in the garden. Spot all the way around there..

"Very good Tuesday. I stations zebra. You know? Let's I've never I've never seen such carrying on. Maybe maybe it's just because I lived in a lived in northern climes more than anywhere else. But. Yes. All right. I got it. And I'm I'm no, I'm no climate change denier. That. But boy. You know, it's gonna be all right three or four days. Subzero. We when I was a Colgate. There was I should look this up. There was a three week period. Pretty sure when I was a freshman. Maybe when I was I think freshman, so that'd be Witter seventy eight seventy nine it did not get above. It did not get above zero. I believe for ten days. And and it was about a three week period. That it didn't that it didn't get above freezing. I mean, it it just the trees were gray. It was it was so cold. You could barely. There's not we accept the trudge up down a hill back and forth. The dining. I I got ta get Tina, you know, asking me every three minutes about the snowfall how much snow we're gonna get. What is it going to fall? The looking for days. I I don't know. What are you gonna do here? It's it's. Polar polar vortex polar vortex. This might be a good time to call match here and get the official. Official horse racing meteorologist. And get his take. We did this last week. We've done this a couple of times. Right. We did it with with with the hurricane, and we did it with some other some other. Weather anomaly, the big concern. We'll talk to Andy surly at top of our two. And the the the thing we're most concerned about is. When when do we get a crack at at the carryovers and pick six, but the also got an IRA beds pick five carryover looks like they'll probably they're they're talking not only cold, but wind. On thursday. So it feels like a real long shot that that the card goes Thursday. So I think I think the thing to do is look to Friday expectation for those for those carryovers and same thing doesn't they terms of a carryover the same focus looking ahead to tomorrow's draw for Wednesday, and Santa Anita. They'll be the force out. They'll be a force out of of the jackpot six. So that's the only time to. To play it and comes on the on the big state card. Got the Bob Lewis and Sam PASCAL McKinsey. And. That card looking forward to that looking forward to really all three major venues for Saturday. Holy Bull at Gulfstream as part of five, right? Five stakes. You got the Swedish chant and the danger beach and three year old boys on the grass and so forth. And then in New York, the weather's weather's is a standalone on Saturday, but the withers. The weather's lost another. I saw Dave Greenwich actually updated. You know, I mind to troll Greg Sacco decided to wait with mind control. They're going to wait for the. Gotham instead and. Then the general. Had a little hiccup la- general had been a one of the worst is that. Michelle Mavin was pointing and some discipline toward the withers, and he's got a little suspensory tweak. So he's gonna sit out thirty days. So what looked to be an an eight nine ten horse field in the withers right now looks like about seven unless anybody else comes forward. And that includes. Moretti from from Todd Pletcher and. So were Dale Romans. Ascending up admire. Got a. Interesting. Let's it's kind of an interesting. Set of preps. It's almost other than I suppose Maximus mischief the undefeated. But she read in the headlining the Holy Bull. I it it does feel like. Kind of an audition for any number of of players. Trying to you know, make that that next step and. We'll talk to we'll talk later to Jeremy plonk L C. What Jeremy's thoughts are as these fields? Come together. Six seven. Horses pretty much all three Bob the Bob Lewis, you've got gun metal grey back and mutual Gustavo for Baffert Hollander for in addition to gun medals going to have so Ueno..
