"Myself next week and talking with with mclaren i've been wanting to drive the mclaren. Gt which is the two plus two car right. It's kind of their entry level. Got a little back seats in it. We saw it at the quail last year. Whenever the hell we were at the last time. And it's supposed to be just a great kind of all around kind of gt carpet around To reach out to them and they said yes. We're going to get you one. You can drive. And i said well now that we're on the topic. There's the seven sixty five lt now. The seven twenty s mclaren is one of my favorite cars to drive just a great all around performer on the street. It's crazy performance on the track. It's just one of the coolest one of the best supercars you can drive and they said. Hey we've got that. But what if we did a lightweight version within seats and stripped out some of the sound denner and turned up to horsepower. Just made a kind of abacha crazy version. Seven sixty five And they have that so next week. I'm gonna drive the gt. I'm gonna drive the seven sixty five lt and for one day only in between those cars not even a whole day. The lightning there. I'm gonna drive that everyday. They're they're gonna love you. They're gonna put me in a really so next week. Gt seven sixty five. And you're doing on thursday. And i'm bringing that santa by here the i love the this i. Don't you know the the mclarens stuff is nice. It's a little sterile but it's really nice but the the senna but they work ler corey. They work this. The senna has an aesthetic. I don't know if it's the rear tail. The color scheme we saw it and we do like the way the wing the sort of the the stand offs for the wing kind of go up around and over in the wing kind of hangs underneath which is kinda cool. Are the senators all the same color scheme. Now you can get them however yeah there's a couple of crazy color combinations and sal. I'm not exactly sure what they're sending me. But i was actually. I was talking to goldberg this week. And he didn't event at the bhandara would score on. A bunch of people showed up as part of this video thing I think it's the one he did with kevin hart and all that and Somebody had a center and they said hey you you can you know. Here you go take it we've got the skid pad. You can do whatever you want. He's like that thing is not the just so much. It's going to be just a fantastic day in that car that he put it into the hay bales he did not. They didn't have bills. they're boston is jobs. The other day we had. We had von getting junior on in egypt. Did the non spectator version of good wood and the all electric mustang machi but the fourteen hundred horsepower version and he took that thing into the grass and did like a like a three sixty in back in. So we talked about the mustang mach e. Is that the mustang. That doesn't look like a mustang right and it's the electric version but von getting teamed up with ford. Actually it was his idea largely his idea. He pitched them on this and said can we make a crazy version of this and they ended up making a fourteen hundred horsepower. All electric all wheel drive with the drift e. brake handle on it and and i think it runs three motors in the front in line like And then four stacked up in the back all just for power and he can put as much power as he wants to. Almost the to the front and the rear like. It's just an insane insane vehicle. If he's talking about they built it and there was a one little glitch in the software just in the coach just one zero or one was flopped over and got it and he drove it. And he's like guys. This is cool but it's not impressive at all. And they went back and they're like oh no let me fix something in the code and then he got it again and it was just a monster of a rocket thing in the software act is like a huge rev limiter like just a bit And he said once they took that off he's thing just went nuts the videos and south and now with all the electric motors. It's loud it's loud but has like a you know. of course the whining sound to it. But he did that goodwood how they hook up the three motors. So it's kinda explain it. There's it has some sort of like not a transmission. We're shifting gears but it does have a drive system to it and the motors are like like a round disc and it's three discs in a row like a spine like mike you know so there's three stacked in the front and three and four stacked in the rear and there's a three d like animation of what this looks like and And that with the battery going completely flat and low to the ground. It's a good sized vehicle and just handles they. They designed it to be able to do whatever you wanted to do right. So he can set it up for the drag racing or the drifting or on a on a road course or whatever and it's just insane. How does i'm trying to think what that does set. Car that mustang. He sort of looked like the tesla baby. Suv it kind of does. But it has a really good profile to it. Chris can find the mustang mach photos by one of the things they do on the roof. Line is it's body color to give a nice swooping.

"Dad went on his hunting trip. Why did he take the impala. Get a or. Was it like a gift on dean sixteenth. Birthday i don't i don't know rate some fan fiction about that. No i'm curious also. Also this is the questioned at all of the the listeners. Right now who are gonna listen to this. What do you think dean's first car. Was i think firebird. I think he had a shitty firebird feels a motorcycle. Do you think they could just go to to Bobby's auto salvage and pick out. Whatever they wanted and work on it. I think so. That would be cool. I definitely think so. I'm curious to think of what genes first actual car was all right so speaking of cars. Apparently naturally the impala might not have been the first choice because it was not encrypt. He's original first draft it actually and this is what i think might have actually been deans technical first car. However i still feel like he's had a shitty firebird was a sixty five mustang Yeah it wasn't the mustang small. The mustang actually was because so the mustang got kicked to the backseat pun. Intended because christie's neighbor actually said it has to be sixty seven pat loeb because you can put a body in the trunk yet so so maybe somewhere dean started with. Sixty five mustang. Okay i'll go with it still curious as to what other people think his first car might have been. Let us know folks please do. Because i'm very curious. Have cars the lady with the crazy daughter tries to drown her in the river own. My gosh she just rolls in. That was insane so calm and then how she saw the lights and everything on the headlights and shit. She is useful to susan smith and just restricted pulling.

"So this is making a big impact. But they're also gonna do this with the Maki, the new Mustang electric crossover that Ford is doing and then also future Ford. So I think this is going to be a train they were going to see in a lot of other vehicles were speaking with Nathan Balmy, business correspondent at U. S. A. Today his pieces called is the car owner's manual history. 2021 Ford F 1 50 Ditches traditional paper copy. So is all the info or some of the info gonna be loaded on these touchscreens? Exactly. So, essentially, they're going to transition much of the manual to how to videos, for example, so evil that touch the screen on your maki or your f 1 50 or future Fords. And you'll be able to then see a video on how to, for example, and change the oil or something like that. And they're also incorporate a physical or a digital copy of the physical manual in there, too, so you can actually pay Stuart if you want. But, you know, the on Lee Paper Copy will be this reduced version that will have information and what to do if you've lost vehicle power, or you don't have an Internet connection. So how do you use the touch screen If the battery dies? Yeah, well, it is a problem and in some of the experts I talked to are concerned about that, you know, ultimately being able to reach for the physical manual's pretty is pretty reliable. You know, it's there and you know it might take you a while. The page through it, but you'll find what you need eventually on, But I think the view, though, is that vehicles are really much more reliable these days than ever before. The chance is that You buy a 2021 f 1 50. It completely dies on you. You lose power are pretty low And ultimately, even if you do, your phone will probably be in and have power. And you know, a lot of people just tap on their phone now and look for something on YouTube. How to fix their vehicle. So that's also a solution for most folks, And this is something Tesla A is already doing. Yeah, exactly. They've gone completely digital with their owner's manual, so they don't even provide a Paper copy of any kind, You know pretty typical for Tesla to be on the cutting edge of where this trend is happening. Other automakers have also put in their vehicles, various digital versions, but none of actually reduce the size of the manual until now, So this is definitely a.
Xfinity Series Champion Austin Cindric
"On the final with us. Today is austin syndrich. Welcome back to the program of great. Thanks for having me all right. So twenty twenty. Xfinity series champion That's got a nice ring to it right. Yeah without a doubt. I mean you work in an entire year. Obviously this year's been been crazy and trustful for a lot of people and a lot of different ways and Obviously rise to the occasion on on on the right weekend is is is ideal but The the work put in all season. It definitely makes you gratifying. So i take us through this closing laps. What was going through your head. Obviously we had. We pulled away in the lead with older tires there and I thought that was the hard part and turned out You know caution with three to go Having to come in and put on tires and that we are at a pretty big deficit I think that was the right call to make but putting yourself by maple on on on the offense and Having having to make two laps and make it happen when a championship in the with with with our competition definitely wasn't gonna be easy and putting a three wide off at turn four to win the championship Was was pretty cool. I thought i thought we all wreck for for a moment there and Definitely definitely dramatic finish and Glad glad we had to earn it but Definitely go out. It will all work out. What What did you do to celebrate. So yeah i've been trying to do the maximum obviously The different year As far as getting people together and enjoying things with that'd be with my guys do people shop or or or just my friends and family so That that part's obviously been a bit more of a challenge but Saturday night after the race. I can promise you. The the twenty two team had a great time and Major everybody got back to their rooms. Nice and safe but Otherwise it was it was. It was a fun night. looking forward to To enjoy during the season and coming back even harder and twenty twenty one. What are some of the things. That are a champion has to do during the week. Afterwards is it. Is it more than you expected. i think it's a lot of things that i wanna do myself It's it's. It's not things that that other people will put me up to as far as Like i said. I've had to be very creative in the last couple of days. Far as trying to figure out. Like i said what the maximum is that i can do to to to enjoy championship with with my team But also making sure i don't even turn you don't wanna championship every day and It's really difficult to do this in. Obviously we had the opportunity. Try new again next year but Trying to make sure that that. I don't miss anything almost anyone and I enjoy the moment obviously You're going to be kind of like the the face of the sport or the the face of the xfinity series for next year. What does it mean to be a champion and carry that flag. I think anyone who's watch watch series for the last couple of years. Watch me grow develop at the driver. Obviously i have my one one season in the truck series beforehand but that was it and As far as my career. So i've come a long way in a short amount of time and and i think Anyone who's watched those races that seeing that Has it's hopefully been able to create that. And as as seen this team really rally around me and in my development and obviously it's been a lot of fun to be able to do that and go on win races. And and then put ourselves in contention all year so it obviously Gives us more to look forward to. Obviously there's going to be great competition next year. I excited excited to see the full line. Up of drivers that We get to compete against and Looking forward to doing doing the most. We can't to make it back to phoenix and try and contempt for another championship now. Obviously every year. There's a big awards banquet at the end of the year this year. It's going to be a little different than can be more of a an awards show. I'm sure you're still looking forward to it because you're going to be honored. Their yeah i just want to get back all hours. Upset at other people's banquets watching other people talk. I want to do the talk. Our team to get the talking but It's it's obviously a challenge but No it's hopefully. Everyone can tune into that. I i got got wrapped up with with my obligations for that Just just yesterday actually so Looking forward to seeing that. It's also fun to to to to share that with with the other. Competitors are in shown creative while we were in nascar Production dairy and talk and talk to him about his race and and obviously Obviously chase elliott pretty pretty cool for the sport there and Obviously very well deserved for him and his family's well. We're on with xfinity series champion for twenty twenty austin syndrich and every year penske. Does this big olympic style kind of stuff with all their drivers and and and and crew members and stuff like that. This year was dodgeball How'd you do was it fun. It looked awesome while. I'm gonna brag on myself here for a minute because In p when. I was in middle. School and high school dodgeball was my thing. Okay i i don't know why i i obviously love it but For whatever reason. I just have a knack for it so When when they decided they were going to dodge ball with all the penske drivers i was. I was pretty keen so the game. They go to penske social channels. They haven't shared up on there. But i was the last man standing for a very long time Got a lot of people. I got blaney out by far the most athletic driver on our team pretty. I got him out early in the game But yeah it's great fun it. It's it's so cool. Because we're such a diverse group of drivers. As far as the different race series and and you know different nationalities and obviously we really different personalities. So that's always a really fun amick and I hope everyone enjoys that kind of stuff. I'm sure it's a big A team bonding kind of thing as well. Hey later today you've got a alive. Qna online. Are you are you nervous with some of the fans might ask you know. I don't think so Obviously we've got like said the life you and eight six six thirty on penske social channels on facebook and Looking forward to seeing the turnout we get for that. Because it'll be my crew chief. Brian wilson talking about Pretty much our season that race. Everything that's come down to it. Obviously brian i ever really greatly relationship and Look look forward to take jabs. Adam if i can't tonight what are some of the things are gonna be doing in the off season Both to relax and maybe even stay sharp for next year. Yeah i'm i'm still working on that. But i made a long list on the flight home from phoenix as far as things don't want to do and i i started to realize i'm probably not going to get everything done. I'd say top of that list is continue to work on my project car. I've got an eighteen ninety three volvo station wagon that i've been doing a Coyote swap was basically putting the the drive train. The the motor from a ford mustang. So go to five hundred horsepower. Engine in a in a ninety station wagon is has been no small feat. I've been working on this thing for for two years. Now doing all the work on myself so it's been really fun to to learn that Learn that side of things i. I think it's made me a better driver. And the obviously it's a it's a great pastime. Okay that's one of the most unique rebuilds. I think i've ever heard what's the goal for that. Car the goal is to be stupid or noxious. It's gonna race track. It's just it's just supposed to be loud stupid and fast. The car actually ways Significantly less than most most rijkaard's. It's actually smaller than you think being a station wagon. It's only twenty pounds. So a couple of hundred pounds lighter than most modern cars so nothing's gonna rip so Hopefully i get tight and have some fun with it so looking looking to make a pretty big debt absolutely now over the next year and a half or so. You've got a lot of things plan. Obviously going xfinity series racing next year. Defending that The championship and you're also going to have some cup series races Have they decided that your schedule yet. No it's definitely ongoing. Obviously gotta make sure things work logistically and and try and figure out the the right thing whether it be my development or having partners on the car but I'm excited for for that opportunity to to learn at the high level But i'd say if there is a race that i wanna do They're they're going cup racing at road. America on july fourth weekend is going to be amazing so I'm hoping that i can get to do that. One that one's definitely at the top of my list but Overall just just happy to happy to have that kind of an opportunity happy have the groundwork laid out for for for for my development over the next couple of years that's very challenging thing to to navigate in the sport especially the drivers so Looking forward to taking advantage of that opportunity and make the most of your drivers don't have the opportunity of knowing. Hey after next year. I'm going cup racing. They don't usually know that You still got to keep the eye on the ball for the community series. But i'm sure you're still excited about twenty twenty two. Yeah without a doubt to have that opportunity. Go race for the wood brothers in in in twenty twenty two. Obviously that's a that's a family. That has a huge legacy in the sport and The opportunity to to build on that legacy is something i definitely. Don't take lightly. I i love the history of the sport but also the the wood brothers eddie. Len modern john. Those guys who have been big supporters of mine Since since i've really come into nascar so excited to get to work with them here in the next couple the next couple of months after after twenty twenty one and Really really start the next chapter of my career with those guys so Very grateful for that as an opportunity. But i really really focused on defending title. It'd be be great taylor to walk out the as two time champions but a lot of work that needs to be done in a lot of hard competition to the face before then all right for sure last question any plans for the rolex twenty four working on that man that's that's always grind. I mean that is that is a given so Definitely definitely doesn't hurt to in the off season In style like this but Yeah i i wanna i wanna do the rolex again This past year was actually the first year in in three years that i hadn't done it so actually spotted the race for one of the penske cars which being outside in the middle of the night for twenty four hours is enough motivation for for trying to find drive the next year. I don't know what is so I'm i'm excited to try and try and navigate that I want to win that race. Really bad that's that's that's where i've been really passionate about for a long time a lot of miles in a lot of hours in so Still still on the lookout for for the right combination and Hopefully hopefully things down before the holidays. All right. he is the twenty twenty extended series champion. Austin syndrich thanks as always for being on the final

Did they make off road tires? and then I, know that he had a gold mine. Well really actual, Gold Mine at some point. Yeah I don't know about that because wasn't he the one who went and like. got smokey eunuch in a gold mining. Maybe. But this one is like, I should have known about this dude there are no google results for Mickey, Thompson Gold Mine but that you know maybe it's true we have to go find Mickey Thompson's gold. City slickers to. All right So let's just get into it. Mickey Thompson was born Marian Lee. Thompson Junior on December seventh nineteen twenty eight in San Fernando California. He went by Mickey and not marrying because in his own words quote a girl's name would mean even more fighting. I do like the name Marian it's pretty cool. Yeah. Like that, he said even more five eighty. We'll see. Yeah, he. Likes to get into it the San Fernando Valley home to Ventura. Boulevard and Mulholland. Drive was a fitting birthplace for a kid who would become defined by hot rods and dragsters. The valley is one of the original cradles of Car Culture I. I will say it still is today it's very like I went to see us you northridge up there in the valley and it is a muscle car town everyone drives either a charger challenger Camaro or Mustang it's pretty cool. I haven't met many people from the Valley with a valley accent most liked. Girls and Valley boys that I've talked to are from like Hollywood and Venice specifically. Venice. But never really never never from the valley there's I. Mean there's a lot of people. See us you northridge is a commuter school. There's a lot of people from that area that go there and I never really heard that typical valley you know yeah, I think it's kind of a pass a kind of thing. Now it was big at a time I. Don't think it's as big anymore you gotta meet some people from Venice. It's very much alive while not Nevada is on saying I think that the the new thing is. Not New but like the the big vocal fad was the vocal fry God. Yeah. Dashing vocal. John. We Sold our show got. Because we have less views per episode than Donut does perfect. Indirectly, Kris Kardashian directly sourced us. Did you see that onion article that was like the show ends when I wanted to? Rise into, the ocean. I will say Kendall Jenner Architecture Digest open-door episode is pretty cool. She's got a cool house and that's all say on that that rich girl has a cool how it's not just a cool house James. There's a difference like if you watch those videos, there's like real people houses and then there's there's rich people houses with no taste and then as rich. People houses with actual taste and define style, Kendall Jenner, and then Mark Mark. Ronson Mark Ronson Mark Ronson is the best very cool. House is not annoying at all I would like to hang out with Mark Ronson I. Don't know much about a hundred percent want to go to that house hundred percent did anyway that's that's our only Hollywood digression for the episode. California's on fire right now guys so much so that I got gotta check engine light yesterday because I was putting on the new intake, my car, and then like I stopped because I needed another tool and then I put my older back together. But I didn't tighten the thing for the math enough and I just sucked in a bunch of ashish and it like Oh. No. Covered my maths I have a math cleaner if you need it. I had a check engine light a few days ago. Was not fire related. It just turns out that when my coil packs was bad and I had to change it out and not fixed it. So I'm pretty happy. It didn't take long to discover his love for both driving and working on cars and age. They waited and waited. But David Powell never came out. Just after six am. And we decided that six police to canine officers would enter the woods and go in there and get POW. The remaining police were to maintain the perimeter. They wanted only a small amount of police officers to enter the woods to minimize the risk. They decided that no one else was to enter. They needed a set number of officers only. That way. If they saw any movement at all, they would know immediately, it was not a fellow officer. In other words, they were prepared to shoot on sight. The two dogs and six officers entered the woods with flak jackets and loaded shotguns. "On the western side of the Indian subcontinent, there is a city called Puna with an estimated population of seven million people. It's the eighth largest population center in India. As the informational technology capital of the country known as the Oxford of the East due to many universities and technical schools scattered throughout the city. At the near center of the city on the Bank of the Muto River is a majestic eighteenth century fort called Shawnee war water. was home to some of India's greatest warriors and politicians as well as some of its most dangerous betrayals. The death and destruction tied to the fort has left behind shadows Phantom pushes and pulls and disembodied voices crying out for help. These spirits are the last remnants of the Fort's storied history as a series of fires have ravaged the building itself. In order to understand the loss experienced by both these spirits and the culture they came from one has to die far back into Indian history. If South Asia can be defined by anyone conflict. It's the region's ongoing religious wars between Hindus and Muslims long before the British and Portuguese arrived and exacerbated these problems the countries we now know as India and Pakistan were divided into smaller kingdoms who fought for religious and cultural dominance. The Greatest Barn Finds of All Time
"Barn fines. The long lost cars with a built in mystery, we're addicted to these lost and found time capsules partly because of the story they tell about the past but also of how they feel in the president like something that time traveled into. Now with decades old potential waiting to be tapped and to be clear, these cars don't need to be found in a barn. Okay. Today are barn finds come from parking garages and Australian chicken coop and even buried underground some because. What's the rarest car ever found? What's the most valuable and how did these automotive treasures get lost in the first place? A normal person loses their car keys once in a while. But who is the person that can lose an entire car? especially one like a prototype shelby Mustang or a LAMBORGHINI MIRA s here's a hint. They're usually very rich people. We'll also get into Wi Carr fans continue to love these barn fines. Maybe an age where literally all the information in the world sits in our pocket. The idea of hidden treasure is more precious than ever before and with so many cars feeling blander and more mass produced than ever unique cars feel rare than ever to a barn find always has its own one of a kind story behind it. So I think that's a really good point I would say that like barn finds potentially like. Don't exist in the way that they used to because to me a barn find. Also. Suggest some sort of like. Deal or like you. You know what? I. Mean Like it's like, Oh, I found this car. Then I bought it for this much money whereas like now the person. Can just google it like I know I I make a living everyone in this makes a living talking about cars on the Internet, but the Internet is ruined cars everything is valuable now. Yeah. It tennis sucks I. Think it hasn't ruined the joy of driving or getting to experience like new things in that way, but I see what you're saying whereas. A lot of things are described value immediately, which I I really hate God on bring a trailer this week there is some Honda accord from the mid seventies that sold for like twenty one thousand dollars and I was like that car it's not worth that amount of money just because it's A condition four thousand dollars to a huge Honda accord. But because like there's such a hype around like Oh man this is like in this such and such condition with this miles and it's There's only so many of them like that's when money kind of ruins it in that culture of like wanting to have. A car that valuable I don't know the same thing happened though like fifteen years ago with barn find particularly mopus because those cars Warner's common back in the day. So when people found like Barracuda or Challenger sitting somewhere in a barn there like a meal like discards worth a million dollars no rusty piece of. and. It's only worth a million dollars if it was original parts matching everything. But because you found some shell behind your uncle's place, it doesn't mean Jack it's. Clearly. Look I'm a I'm a bitter Mo- par, Guy. It's been the the the. Been in completely over inflated, which is why I had to buy an imperial instead of like a real muscle car. Of. This attitude that everything has to be some crazy valuable car for to be cool which is not true. Your car is really cool knowing don't feel bad about but Joe, I know I don't know any sometimes Nolan's car. No one's cars parked at my house sometimes I go and sit in it I I. I'm glad. It's fun. It's like I said Mitt I think like when the Sun's going down. Unlike man, this thing is going to be cool when it runs, we'll be it's it's I ordered a bunch of brake parts which have arrived James outs There might be some more boxes on the way, but I'm GONNA refresh the brake system, and after that, the big hurdle becomes getting the car to run and that's when I can find out what else needs to be fixed. So. is it are you converting from drum brakes disc? No, it's. It's got drum brakes around. So I ordered a bunch of drum brake. Specific stuff like. Brake shoes and wheel cylinders. Brake lines return springs all this stuff I also live on the top of a gigantic hill. It's to be a real trial by fire situation. We're going to go around your little neighborhood there first before we do anything drastic. This is like a seventeen thousand pound rockets. Zooming down. Well, we know that we know the break works. So let's get right into. Finally. With what might be the OG OF BARN FINES? All right. This car probably has the record for the longest time hidden away it spent. Okay. You guys ready for this. One hundred and twelve years sitting in a shed in Austria before being uncovered in two thousand fourteen. Wow. The car I'm talking about is the Porsche p one also known as the Edgar Lunar Electric Vehicle, and even calling a car might be a bit of a stretch, Armstrong whatever you WanNa call though what's not up for debate is that the P. One is the world's first ever Porsche designed by then twenty three year old Ferdinand Porsche Ferdinand even employees the nineteenth century version of a watermark actually hand carving P. One into every individual component of the car. So like you mentioned, this is parts numbers matching Baoji are all original equipment the

Well, I came home to a smelly little way. God I imagine Mustang Cameron. The inspiration of platelets he's in i. mean he since he was four years old, he played flag football basketball t-ball cross in. So He's always been super sport cinch against super like we. We're so promoting his active lifestyle, but one day at six years cameron literally got in the car in that door swung shut. It was like his older just hit me and I was like wait you're six like what just happened he smell horrible in. So I just refuse to settle for having a smelly little boy in my house in. So I didn't want put that ingredient that prodigal mass sweet baby boy even he smelled like a grown man I didn't want to use the products that grown men were using. So I just got in the kitchen made him a product I love that as as you were doing your research, what is it about? What was currently out there in the natural deodorant space that that made you that you didn't like for your own child. So it was so serious like you look at the packaging you look at the you know everything was just so serious and so boring that I just like. My little baby he's not GonNa do this every day and needed a product that I will be confident that you know why? Why he's getting himself ready for school in practice I could be packing his legend Atkins say get ready just like he brushed his teeth that he's been doing since he was to a one year ago I needed to know that he was gonna put on this new. Indigenous Artist To Artist
"So I think we wanted to start off by hearing from each of you like why were you? Are you interested in the type of work that you do in museum and cultural spaces, and then what do you see as the challenges from your position where you are in your career the challenges of these museum spaces? And in that sense to like we also, since our podcast is called all my relations kind of thinking about. The ways that museums and curation fit into this idea of being in good relation. So that's like a multi parter. But basically, why are you interested in this work What do you see as the challenges and then like? Any sort of thoughts around these ideas of museums and curation fitting into the idea of being a good relation. well, I so I. This is Jamie and I grew up with my father being in the navy and so my mom Mama's Osage my dad's non-native and he was in the navy. So we moved around a lot but spent summers at home in Oklahoma participating in our launch PGA and being you know with family and relatives there but when I was in elementary school We lived north of Chicago and Chicago has some incredible museums and so you know I would go to museums on the. Weekend with my family's or we would go for field trips and I loved museums The Museum of Science and Industry was split place that release sparked my interest and curiosity I loved the Field Museum where you could go and like go into a pyramid and you know be Indiana Jones which is problematic in a lot of ways to but you know and so in I think it was fourth grade was like the one year where learning about native Americans was part of the Illinois State Curriculum. And so we went to the field museum to the native American Cultures Hall, and I was really excited because I had told my friends that I was native American and they were like, no, you're not. You don't live in t p You know you don't look like you know Pocahontas or like have a pet like a free Koon. And so we go to the museum and they have a case about osage. people and it's like osage men's costumes. And there's like no representation of women and the closet are on view not the kinds of clothes that Mike that we wear today even you know our dances and. You know it was just like a really sad experience, and then my friends where these kids in my class told me like. Well, it's because you're not a real Indian anyway. We didn't believe you and it was just like this really kind of like damaging. Experience for me and so a lot of the reason. Know. The reason I got into museums is because I want kids to go into museums and feel like they're represented in meaningful and respectful ways until like experience the kind of joy and curiosity you know the the can happen in museums and that should happen in museums and non those kind of negative feelings. So there's a lot of work to be done. Things are getting better you know, but there's still a lot of a lot of space for for growth. I had the same experience at the field museum but that was like three or four years ago when I was asked to do a show there and I walked in and there's those totem poles that are in the in the center house and. You know they're like still unnamed polls in like some Haida itis did it or some sense Simpson artists and then I went you know walked into the native area and they had these. What we call square deal is we run square deal for ceremony there these paddle boards and we don't really talk about it's not even something I would publicly talk about here and say this is why we doing what it's for because it's super sacred and it's quiet something we do. quietly and those when you rents could illitch those boards are taken they're putting back inside their boxing they're putting put away. Forbidden for good reason, and then those were just sitting there at the front of the exhibit and I was like, oh no I cannot go I cannot walk in here. You know like I literally turned around and walked in the other direction and the person giving me a tour was like where are you going I said this is I can't go in here. This is inappropriate but you know that was a couple of years ago so I can completely relate to that Jamie. Well and I will say about the field museum they you know have taken down the old native American Culture Hall not the North West Coast but then American you know the other part of the hall and have been working with you know a collaborative team and a native earn indigenous Advisory Group to reinstall that and so you know there is you know some conversation happening there and some there's a great show their curated by a Nina Sanders Uppsala Women in Warriors that you know Sanders did supported by Miranda Roberts who's a curatorial fellow there, and so you know there I don't want to just like bash the field museum. You. Right. Yeah. Actually. Really want to see that show. It looks really cool. Yeah. My heart goes out to Nina and the team because it opened just like literally a week before every buddy needed to be at home and chiltern please Ram. So but it's such a feat in terms of just that that monumental of exhibit with Contemporary Indigenous Artists is there a a real world renown institution so big props to Nina entity. So. I can go ahead and jump in. So you got edge OKLA CIT kiani Bushes Gene Takuji chador begun Annella could though Kanada Show I am connecting in from a the Mayakoba the lands of the the my people in Santa Ana Pueblo, my partner's home in North Central, New Mexico in it's where we raise our son and our family. And so I I think listening to. Jamie Story going back to where I found the magic and the interest in museums I was a young kid in the interactive galleries of the heard, museum and waiting for my dad to. Finish up some consulting that he was doing as a photographer on with the museum. So I would just wait and play all different museums all over the south west and all over the country as he would have these meetings and so It was always a really exciting place to be to explore I when I filled out my application for college I knew that I like art I knew that I like art and I knew that I like history and so I just put the two together. I didn't know that art history is a thing I grabbed. His Kayonza? Shoutout to all the an empty mustangs and and my application came back with my major having been declared art history and it was like, wow, I didn't get returned I. Guess It's a thing in college I love sitting in the dark room like watching slides drop like on the old like slide Kodak carousels and just being like so taken. Seeing the world through Like. Through, like art of other cultures
The Amazon Haul
"Okay, don't shoot the Messenger on this one. Has just come out with Turkey dinner candy corn. So it's slipped candy corn, the normal candy corn that we know. It's a mixed bag with six different flavors. So the flavors are Turkey Green Bean, stuffing cranberry, sauce, ginger, glazed carrots, and sweet potato pie. They've been spotted at walgreens and as weird as they sound try them. All right. Well, Brock's is like the candy my grandmother used to eat. So I'm used to that company they I think they're kind of like biting into a Jones Soda did with their remember they made those specialty they probably still do they make their thanksgiving. Soda. This sounds weird. I do WANNA try every single one of these flavors I know they're all going to be disgusting. Well, I would totally try them me too I. Think the cranberry sauce, the ginger glazed carrots, and the sweet potato pie could be Yummy Greens and stuffing green beans candy corn the wonder if they're going to be sweet, we'll have to we have to get our hands on a bag of maybe say something nice about them. They'll send them to. We Love Brock's and did that in the breaking rocks. If we If we have like a bunch of the green beans does that count as a vegetable? Absolutely, and carrots. Kinda like Jelly belly does this to with like they have like buttered popcorn they have some savory on flavors. So weird but a good novelty thing to bring to someone's house and try. E for effort. Okay. So it looks like Uber is getting into the grocery delivery service business. It's already started in a few cities and should be rolling out throughout the rest of the country in a few months and it's available through your Uber App sued us open up the APP and the groceries available. You can order groceries through Uber I. Love that because Insta- card has become my life and I, love grocery delivery more than anything and I will try Uber Uber User. So I've tried Uber eats and that's great. The more people that want to bring me groceries without having me leave the house. The better told her wonderful lift is gonNA. Follow. Suit. Probably. Probably I cannot wait honestly do you guys use the grocery delivery services exclusively? Yeah. Amazon fresh and INSTA- cart like three or four times a week. Amazing and I've been ordering for my mom too which is a whole other story that I will probably get into later. Okay. We should get I think I actually had this idea. I want to start sending certain things to my mom with her INSTA- card orders and having her review them on the podcast I. Think it would be funny. The best thing I've ever heard. MAZING. All right. We might do that flew choose. All right. We're about to jump in to these products that have been delivered. Some of them seem weird. There's only one product I think out of all of these products that actually or maybe two that I've heard of that look familiar and I've only tried one so I cannot wait this first product is something that is totally new to me. I've heard of p being me but this is pbs me powder chocolate hazelnut spread. So I was envisioning it to be a little bit like powdered new tele kind of right like a powdered peanut butter and you tell, yeah, it's. Exactly. It's like powder peanut butter, but it's powdered hazelnut instead and then it's yeah. Two tablespoons, fifty calories to grams of fat. So the stats are amazing. Four grams of protein. I. Don't know Jimmy, you probably know this mark. It's one smart point. Amazing. Okay. So I have mixed it up with some waterman about to try it. It looks like new Tele Ish. Okay. I'm not a hazelnut fan and I really like that It's nutty. It's I've tried like almond powdered almond butter and I did not like it at all. The Hazelnut is better I have to say, I made a second version and I added cocoa. Like amp up the chocolate flavor I was gonNA, say. Yours. Looks so dark. It's really good. I added like, did you add Dr Cocoa I added my. Gear Deli Coco, which I think is dark, but it's like majestic and then I added a little more sweetener to it because I really wanted to amp it up and it's great. I'm just going to sit here and eat the whole bowl. This looks like Mustang. The consistency of years now it's Yummy wally is sitting here like dying to I. Not Allowed. I like a lot. I'm GonNa put it on Yogurt. It's really good. It's like if you like hazelnut, this would be a great dip like you could even add chocolate little mini chocolate chips to it, and and like dip little cookies in it. I'm impressed with it. You could make a dip like we sometimes do with Like light whipped topping stirred into a tub. I think if you're a hazelnut fan, you will love this. Do you think it tastes like New Tyler? I don't have like a strong. Taste memory of new tele. I think because I'm not really a huge fan. I think you tell is really way more wretched. A A. Watered down version of new tele when you add the cocoa to it, yeah. No Pun intended with water down when you add the cocoa to it, it definitely helps and you only need a tiny bit of water. So just to remind people with this is it's like a powder and then you add a little water and you mix it up and it becomes the texture of. Peanut butter spread Gu I. Bet it would be good and smoothies to great. It would be great. Cool. The next item we have is also it's yet another nut butter powder but this is a more traditional peanut butter powder by La Canto and Jamie you know more than I do but Canto they make a lot of the they're like a monk fruit sweetener company that makes A ton of different sweetener options that are really good I think. Yeah and monk fruit. If anybody doesn't know it's like the new Stevia. It's like a natural zero calorie or low calorie sweetener and made by Tony, Shalhoub, character monk. Mike he had a safe. He just no, but it's okay. You can make all the peanut butter jokes you want my. You have a free pass you're allowed. So this is just do they usually make products. Are they mostly sweetener based the things that I'm familiar with are mostly sweetener based they might have some other. We'll have to look. Okay. So we'll look we'll look at that Lepanto. They're a trusted company I. Love the fact that this is like a pouch of powdered peanut butter. The stats are very good. It's like some powder peanut butter. The stats are a little higher I don't know why or how that would be because basically, they're just the same thing but fifty calories, two tablespoons and it has monk fruit. So it's not gonNA be unsweetened like some of the powder peanut butters right but no sugar added
The Pixel 4a is coming
"We just had soon are on the show. Was it two months ago? And we're like what's up pixels and he like we gotta make him. Good. Did he make him good. I mean he made he made one one. Good. So the Pixel for a has been announced and released viewed it bunch of a tear. Actually, the podcast of used one but because the Pixel for is late and we can talk about why it is really close to when we're assuming the pixel five is gonNA come out. So Google is like you know what? Yeah, we're making a pixel five. It'll be out here this fall also there's GonNa be a pixel for a five G. 'cause you know that's what you want. So they just announced all three phones at once just Bam per year of you reviewed the. We've not seen photos of the five. We have seen various and confusing leaks all summer and Chris you might actually have a better handle around this afar but a bunch of the early leaks for like this must be the pixel five. Am It's like well, no, there's actually the probably the pixel for five G. now, and then there's more yet more internal documents, even more pixels at a foldable pixel like later on down the line like it's a fiasco in Pixel rumor land. Super. Confusing I mean they had that league. I think it was last month there was a phone. It looks just like the four day but they said it was the five and people weren't sure. But then it seems like they might get rid of their face ID clone which I really actually liked on the pixel of four like to just walk away from that the thumb reader but I mean, yeah, no one's really quite sure it's going to look like even the four five G. might have new specs or a bigger screen or who knows who knows what the story is I mean it's there's there's just always confusion about what's GonNa Happen is GonNa have brightly colored plastic rectangle smug s Yes The four as a decidedly, not brightly colored plastic rectangle. Four, you reviewed it. So the big big new innovation in the Pixel Foray is they dropped fifty bucks off the price. So it to three hundred, fifty dollars, which is. Pretty big. It's a pretty big deal It's a hundred bucks less than these storage equivalent iphone se. To get one I WANNA see one, hundred, twenty, eight gigs and they just like. Got Everything as good as you can probably get it on a three hundred, fifty dollar phone like I. Wish it had a faster processor but we live in a world of android where qualcomm. If you want to get a good qualcomm processor, you gotta spend way too much money. So I got like, okay one that's got a pretty solid screen. It's it's got a hole punch. It's got the Pixel camera a Becca actually pointed out to me when we were talking to them, she asked if it had was the sensor Becca three sixty three. Yeah. Same Sensor as. The Pixel four and the Pixel three and the Pixel three they've been using literally like the exact same camera stack for like two years now. So it's great. It makes takes rate photos but they haven't pushed it much. I would love it. If you could select your software tuning on the Pixel who right if you buy a pixel for and like make this shit, look like the Pixel two that would make me very happy because I thought the Pixel two looked it was the most contrast in the most dramatic and they have veered towards looking more like the overtime. But I wish. I. Could just be like go back to that look I love that look the best because if they're using the same hardware, they should give you the choices software, right? Everyone is just looking at me like. I mean it's like it's like saying you should just get your choice of. Clutch on your Mustang like it gets tied. The thing. Okay. Versus automatic. Put Your Ninety seven clutch in Twenty fifteen I mean you don't WanNa do that but you can be retune in anyway. Keep going the pixel for we're not gonNA talk about mustangs fingerprint sensor on the back. It works great. It's got a headphone Jack. because. Apparently low and phones are the only phone's headphone Jacks Anymore Beca you holding one right now you're holding. I'm holding one right now and what I'll have to say about this is that I love this thing like it gave me everything I like about phones in twenty twenty like a big screen and it's slim and the batteries diesen but it kept the things that I also love about previous cones that I love a fingerprint sensor like a one on the back and I love a headphone Jack and I love the Pixel camera in its three hundred and fifty dollars, which is a pretty good pricing twenty twenty for a brand new phone. There's this. There's this meme out there. For him but like there's this idea out there that like Google was bored with android in the pixels reflection of its board on this phone feel like they're bored with it. Now I'm bored with Andrew. Debut. The one new features accessibility feature for software a IT'll do real time captioning phone calls but it doesn't record them and it doesn't put them on the Internet. So don't have your conspiracy theories thrown at me Breitbart. They wrote it up terribly anyway So that's like the one thing but that's coming other pixels. It's just like Google. So committed to keeping the pixel software like really clean and basic relative to the madness that happens on every other android phone that it can feel a little bit boring and their decision to be really like understated with their design. I think it's like they've got they've. got a little bit too far. It's been like, no, no this is this is the the android phone that isn't flashy. It's just like a phone and after a while like that message gets through that like. Made a phone. Okay. Like they want it to be utilitarian to the point where it's like become a little bit boring. Thank you. Go. Has has been so long burned by Sergey Brin. Coming into Google glass event. On a hang glider. That's a real thing that happened they. US In like one of the founders landed on sage on a hang glider glass is the future and that was their last big attempt to be splashy. In it completely backfired like in every possible way

"The CAM. You have to take the engine. Out is the corvette market based on how easy easy it is to put a camera in the car. Perfect yes hinging. On Cam swamps in the reality number of Jake Jake stickers on various parts of the is there a way maybe just removed rear bumper into the plastic and slide it in there for. I don't know I I wouldn't be surprised if there's a way to do it by removing the back half of the car and not being put up the Bosie light text you back on that. He did actually did he really. Yeah but I might want to save it for a story. Oh isn't that good. That's pretty good. If it's good j- just answer. Are there a lot or none parts shared between Mustang and Machi Machi no. It's not that there are a lot shared between Mustang and Machi but that There's another car that Ford makes it. It probably shares more with the atch edge. Oh the ECO sport. No I guess kind of maybe escape. Look okay I'll just say hey if you're a writer listening to this this is our story Parking brake switch from what he spotted so far. And maybe the shift knob from the five hundred but it probably shares more probably shares. More with the fiesta. Wow really Wow Yeah that's not not reading the second test because that has the information on what it might share with the story. That's very I don't know I haven't seen What it takes to a cabinet yet but I hope the entire market doesn't hinge on that And if it does they'll probably find other ways to get power besides camps What's Dude's name sex? Little what W Ward says. What's the best? SUV for under ten thousand dollars. A Japanese one X G X or a Volvo. Don't buy cheap Volvo. No X nine maybe my oh can you. Don't go to Youtube and wash the crash test of that if you actually care about if you have a family actually. I talked to a friend of mine. Out of one of those. The crabby overlap is array six nine offset crash. It's really brutal. The EX was a land cruiser like pro. Those things are my parents had two of them and perfect. Why has nobody set up a business? Taking Lexus G X.'s and Toyota land cruisers and Tacomas and installing installing the Arctic trucks body kits wheels entire packages and suspensions in America. Is this our abner. We went to it. Not only was so cool so obvious that somebody should bring to America and yet nobody well Well the Arctic trucks the top left. There that's a good one. Yeah I did see someone in in Colorado. That had a new WPRO like a couple of years old and it was a Toyota product that was what the Vin but it was.

"As bad as the backup. KEYPAD is excellent excellent. So it's got so many way. Does it have its own key to. Is there a key. They would not confirm whether or not there would be no. There's got to be a key because there's lawyers here's the backup the backup. Is You type the key in for the code the code and then inside you have another code. That's a startup code so if your phone's dead you can then punch that in that hard. I like yeah better than a key. Actually that's the problem. Tesla was the the credit card key. Backup now that was comforting and to think about if your phone died it was good or like I gave it to my wife to take the car to the strike. Actually worked pretty good so the big problem. Is that the so you have those little metal door polls on the front and You don't have them on the back so I swear to God from the back door you pop. Here's why it's a Mustang. Only two doors really uh-huh yeah love the rear door that you pressed and it pops the door a little bit and I swear to God. The Ford approved way to open it. Is You you stick your hand in the gym and pull it open now. They say that it has some safety mechanisms. So you can't then slam the door on your fingers because you're putting your finger wait. You're pressed the button but then there's no handle that so often open and then you stick it in the door jamb in between the real Camara because the front door. The handle makes sense. If you don't see it I would just kind of silly because you still looking at that popped stay home..

"On its own breads backward Dodge Dodge Challenger. Rt Hell Cat Redeye but this is more of a form factor. Thank right like the the problem if they had taken a Mustang body and made electric and bad ass. I don't think anybody would be complaining. They would trick. Mustang I think would make that selectric Mustang called Makki thousand horsepower complain about any well the conversation being dominated by like what the FUCK ISM is. Mostly because it's a crossover shapes thing uncalled Mustang. Right that's the failure. The Word Ford Appears Zero Times on it. Yeah Oh really that that's called pulling an oldsmobile. Everyone they went Aurora. The oldsmobile. From everything yeah. Well I think they think Mustang has a lot of CACHET. It's brand right. And I read write about erode oats somewhere that that said that a lot of a lot of people didn't identify mustangs. Yeah Ford's which makes people fultz stupid. I don't understand that at all the Mustang Mustang brought to you by God by like what they've done with the interior though looks pretty cool. I mean it's it's clearly tesla. Inspired cars probably going to be good to probably will probably will what's weird about the interior though is if you see the KNOB. That's in the center. You know the right now at showing volume knob and so they have a physical knob built into the touchscreen which is really cool except right now it can. It's just a volume knob. It has a screen in the middle. which makes it seem like? I could do a bunch of other things like the fan. You know it's a volume not that don't it's just built into. The schedule was like selective croly Rowley radio stations and volume. That'd be does it with like the weird heated seats things or something. No it's a volume knob and that's what it does. That was clever for the heated seats. I think it is. I'm saying that if you're going to put a screen in it it should probably do more than one thing otherwise right volume. Br You can only do one thing. Well it can only do one thing. Right now This system support over the air updates which is their way of saying well if things are bad we'll just change them after after you get like Honda where they like ditched the volume knob. You know you don't need a one year later. They had to throw the KNOB back in the accord.

"Be founders during our regular data collection. That's part of on. He's a security researcher with anomaly. The research were discussing today is titled China-based Abt Mustang Panda Enda targets minority groups public and private sector organizations this particular cluster off Indo shocked piles were peculiar because the window shortcut files. Pilots were having hedge TA fines admitted to them so which basically they are using it to download another set of malicious files from the Internet because usually take a shortcut files were not used for downloading any content from the Internet. So that's how we were able to narrow it down that there is something religious going on here and upon closer inspection. We were able to confirm that. This particular cluster of of industrial Actually used by the threat group called Mustang Mustang Panda. What can you describe for us? What exactly is a windows shortcut file and how is it? Normally used of Indo shortcut files are called us. Alan Kay files so irregular undershot. Could files will have an extension dot. Alan Kay windows. They use it to open. Applications using using window shot good finance so for example a lot of people might come across. The shot could files in the windows desktop so they just use it to call the reapplication which is towed in a different location. I see so it's a link to an actual file and like you said it's kind of put on your desktop as a shortcut to the the actual executable. Yes I say before we dig into some of the technical details here. Who Do you presume that Mustang Panda Is Targeting based on research believe Mustang. Pandas targets are the Chinese government's neighboring countries as well as the countries that are involved in Belgian road initiative so that is Mongolia and multiple South East Asian countries like Vietnam Myanmar. We also found a mother. Target countries suggests Pakistan because Marcus as one of the countries that enrolled in Belton initiative. I see in other particular picula groups within those countries that they seem to be targeting so the specific entities dot Steinbach targets are most of the government entities as Fellas are nongovernmental entities nonprofit groups D Mustang found out primarily collects geopolitical intelligence. So they primarily. Luke collect intelligence from these governments that the Mustang pond US targets. I say well. Let's dig in and go through some of the lure documents that have been sent out here before we get to that. Do you think that they're planting these documents. spearfishing or or how do you suppose folks are finding these documents on their computers. I don't have a definite answer today but I can say like most of these. APD groups they believe the standard should be using spear phishing emails to Areco to their targets. Well let's go through some of these lured documents together. You gathered quite a few of them. The research here has fifteen different documents. Why don't we go through a couple of them together? What what were some of the more interesting ones that you found but it starts off with a particular sample that targets Vietnamese Embassy that is in China China so in this case Lee believed the email has been sent to the victims? Who Work in? I'm busy off Vietnam China so this particular document talks about vowed to different activities. One is a military drill. That is going to happen in the South China Sea so the government is asking them. I'm not to let go any civilians or any fisherman's over there and the other one talks about China's latest icebreaking ship so it's just a little document but in in the background so once it has opened in the background so Payload has been installed in the background. And it's reaching out to the Saito so this is one of the sample and I'll talk about the other sample that talks about United Nations Security Council Council. So we believe this is targeting. The name think-tank in The Southeast Asian But we don't have any proof Tainting targeting it is Jolie based on the content of the document so in this case it is very interesting because this document has been downloaded from United Nations agent's website you can go to the vets Atlantic download it by the attackers. They are very clear in this case. They don't know that a real document attached to the the avondale shock profile. And then even the documentary shows that the real filename downloaded from the UN's upset and in this case. The Lou document wildly victim. Views allure documented. The backbone Doug expelled has been installed under to start communicating to the fetus. Ever so what they're doing. Here's is taking documents. What's that Their targets would likely to be interested in. They're taking the time to choose documents that they would likely want to read. That would strike their interest and taking advantage advantage of that of a bit of social engineering. There yes exactly so the targets and the lure documents are very related to each other so it gives the attackers percents bandaged. The victims will definitely open it because it is a relevant and very timely for victims. Now your research also describes how L. They've been targeting some police in Pakistan and they're using the plug smell. Where for that? Yes in that case. We didn't find the initial infection we were able to find that the declare sample voting off the IOS's that we don't find on the previous infections so in that case that was targeted against a Police Department in Banja Sind province. Well let's go through what's going on technically behind the scenes here while I'm reading this document that they've sent as is the decoy. What's going on on my machine? What tools are they using an in house communicating with command and control? What is the victim opens the window shortcut? Find a serious set of activities will happen in the background so for example once the victim opens. Stephen does There is an animated hetchy script tripped inside the File and then it opens another. VB's file so the VP skirt file performs different activities so it basically basically opens the document to the victim as well as in the background. It executes a partial strips that is going to download a plug. Knicks are cobalt strike. Depends on which payload as an adjusted for that particular victim. And then it's GonNa be out in case of cobalt strike. It's downloaded stadium. It's a reach out to the command control in the French. For the victim the lure document will be opened so none of the militias activities will be shown to the user. I mean no visible dialog. Boxes are any click yes or no. Since the Mustang Manda Group is using windows shortcut files so there. There's no need to enable or disable macos Vich by the most commonly used tactic so in this case the victim thinks that he he or she did inside open legislative document or a paedophile. And where is it reaching out to what what have you learned about the C.. Two servers there is no specific countries. He's our region that all the servers located so it's all spread across the globe. So that's about it. What sort of information does it seem like? They're interested in. What are they sending back? In this case it group is specifically interested on collecting intelligence from the neighboring countries our countries as involved in the belt initiative so at the time of research most of the leaders servers are actually down so we cannot do. Hr to the not to our economic able to find what exactly does trying to accelerate from the victim because all the activity that the militias sheltered files status it installs the the first stage payload and it's GonNa retrieve the second level payload from server so once the victim receives the second Lowell payload it has gone upper from the next set of activities. And what are your recommendations in terms of people protecting themselves against this be very about deamid start your opening because the most common infection vector is the email so please be valuable. What's your opening and especially emails attachments? So it was just the sort of thing that antivirus would catch or endpoint protection. In this case I would say no because there is no malicious payloads or any other Khalifa's activities are embedded here. It's just a plain window shocker file and it's all it's going to be having a citizen you are just giadonalds Level Payload in this case even the next day or the day Mustang Panda or using legislates joke service as like a google drive. DROPBOX are publicly known story services to retrieve their second lower payload so de Ante whereas in this case you're not be enough to help and our thanks to parsipone from anomaly for joining us. "So can't you see this as more of an entry vehicle into the Mustang lifestyle that may get others to buy Mustang of the second car because they like the Machi so much John John Absolutely. You're absolutely right. But there's one big problem it's not entry into the Mustang lifestyle it's not a Mustang Mustang. So you don't you don't. It's not this this could be. This could be the Ford Machi has is and people say well. Hey if this is what I'm saying if this is a little bit more environmentally conscious I could step into this I get step in and enjoy this and hey this is kind of fun performance Mustang inspired now. I'd like to see what you you know. What a Mustang is like right? You don't you don't picture anyone driving Amaki like welcome at a Mustang meet. I love you be honest be honest not really not really and and I mean in now this has only been out a week right. I mean we're making a lot of judgments agents here just by the seat of our pants but we haven't driven the car yet. It looks like it would be pretty fun to drive. It's just the the point that I have to keep coming back to buy fundamental design. It's not a Mustang. See I and I get your argument that there's like one true form of a Mustang and and you can't put that in namen anything else I think as an argument that a lot of enthusiasts are making but I also think that it's not just that the form of the machi is not two plus two coupe. Crossover it's that. I think it would be easier to swallow if it were a sedan or something else I area. I think the word crossover over has a stereotype to it carries connotations of like what parents drive to avoid minivans. But they're also kind of poser vehicles because they're not real suv's vs and I think Ford made a little mistake here. Even mentioning the word crossover. Because let's look at the crossover segment. The the interesting thing about the crossover segment is that it doesn't have very defined edges of what gets included. It's not like a truck where it's obviously a truck and it's obvious. Here's what's a sedan with crossover. There are so many different kinds and types that can go anywhere from things that look just like normal five-door hatchbacks ax to things that do look like rough and tumble. Suv's what I think. The machi is is something more akin to an Audi q eight or for Mercedes Jelly Jelly coop or BMW X.. Four worth kind of like a four door coupe. Crossover where it's got a really kind of fastback roof line. It's tall but I wouldn't even though it's tall. I wouldn't say it's raised is not like an SUV with a huge ground clearance. It's more just tall to afford a higher and more comfortable seating position than it is tall to get over a tree trunk or or a rock in the middle of the road right. I mean I mean that's obvious I mean it's it's a crossover crossovers by definition don't necessarily fit in one category or another hence crossover and you're right Ford would have. This would have been easier to swallow. I think if it had been sedan I don't think it would have been much easier to swallow because it's still upsetting that that basic formula and and you know a point that I'll that I'll bring up here because I've been trying to Suss this out as well you know. What is true intention here here? I mean we know. Obviously they're trying to brand this as a Mustang because they want to sell people on that Mustang lifestyle. And I know you've said. Hey that's that's a pretty good good complement to Mustang. That Ford is coming out with this awesome electric crossover with with statistics and performance. It's it's really top of the range. I don't see that way though. I see this has Ford. Frankly being scared they're not sure how this this is GonNa go. They're not sure how this is going to sell. They aren't prepared to try to sell this new electric performance crossover on his own merits. So they're going to try to tie Mustang hang into it selling not the vehicle but the lifestyle and now people there's in theory people are GonNa come into this with preconceived notions that okay. This thing is hey this thing is going to be like Mustang. The Mustang people aren't going to come into that because they know it's not a Mustang but the really the buyers at Ford is is targeting with this not Mustang people but people that want that Mustang lifestyle and might be interested. They're going to go into this with preconceived notions. Okay here's what this is going to be like. Maybe it impresses them maybe dozens. But either way Mustang does not help this vehicle sickle cell calling this a Mustang does not help this vehicle cell. I disagree completely. Let me let me make two arguments. Why for one? I think you characterize what I've said about. Why did it sort of right? But he didn't kind of flesh out the details. I think what Ford has done with. The machi is unlike other automakers who I think their egos would not let them admit that Tesla was doing a better job than them making an electric vehicle so so they did their own way. Like Audi Mercedes and Jaguar I think Ford Ego aside and said recognized is the Tesla is seventy percent of the market in the US and that they are doing something right. So Ford got busy analyzing what what Tesla did and I think one thing. They noticed that people aren't necessarily or just buying Tesla's because they're technically superior vs they. They are getting excited about TUSLA's and passionate about Tesla it's like people used to get about the iphone like there. There was an emotional connection being made. That was far beyond just the technical capability of of the vehicle and it was being driven on this wave of excitement over the vehicles and I think in one sense a you characterize it as Ford was scared. They couldn't sell it without attaching the Mustang to it to give it something more. I don't think that Ford was scared. I think Forbes saw that it wasn't enough to just make a good on paper that it had to have an it had to be able make an emotional connection with people and get people excited and the only intellectual property they have in their portfolio. That can do that or maybe not. The only one that I could do at best is Mustang. If they make it a Mustang people are going to have an emotional reaction to it. My second point is they were fully aware that reaction action could be both negative and positive and they don't care because another thing they learned from Tesla is that it doesn't matter if people are are calling you stupid or calling you great. They're talking about you and that's way better than not talking about you. which is exactly what happened to every other? Ev That's launched in the Tesla era They've been completely forgotten about okay. First of all ask Volkswagen. How many diesel vehicles they sold because people were talking about diesel gate? There is such a thing in has negative talk. You don't want that. I understand the whole idea of. Hey any talk is good talk no not necessarily right let I that is not necessarily that is not a fair comparison because and I want to bring up this point to you and this is this is actually my closing point. which is that you brought up Volkswagen? Volkswagen they they broke the law. Like okay yes. If talk about breaking the law that is bad no matter what but the bad talk about the Mustang there. Nothing bad happens because it's called the Mustang. Nothing no one. No one gets their livelihood taken away. Nothing bad happens except and and I think Ford has faith at over time that this is going to be good for Mustang and good for the actual sports car Mustang and not bad so I think ultimately whether people are talking about hating the name or loving it. They're talking about the vehicle and that gives Ford Way more penetration into the mindshare mindshare of potential shoppers. Then it would have otherwise. We're still talking about it and we probably will be for weeks if not months on end but if Ford had just knocked it out of the park with a vehicle that you can't not talk about you don't need to put Mustang on it but that's why you can't you can't do that. Tesla share you can no you yeah you just use hunker down and you do the math and you come out with a good vehicle and honestly I think this mock e is that vehicle I I don't think Ford needed to put the Mustang to try to engage people's passion. I think the only thing because I think the only thing they're doing and I've seen this before at Ford with with various models and various rollouts where it's like we're GonNa try to build vehicle. We could possibly build it better but instead of really trying to go that extra distance. We're going to try to wrap it up in some interesting brandy and we're GONNA try to give you know pull here. Yeah Yeah I think I think it is I really do you. Can't you know automaker can blow tasks out of the water in terms of specs respects. It's not like Ford has the technology and it's back pocket to make a four hundred mile range. They just can't do it they they. What they've managed to do was making vehicle that has come? The closest tesla any other vehicle has and has has matched Tesla on many fronts but it it surpasses Tesla uh-huh few if any and actually falls behind on a few others. The only I would say that. Come out that has exceeded Tesla on a few fronts. Is the Porsche take in. And that's only on a few fronts charging speed and handling you could argue that every automaker exceeds Tesla on maybe like finish or or quality the of craftsmanship. That's one thing but but the thing is I think four new like look we we have made probably the best. Ev to challenge Tesla Tesla. But we haven't blown out of the water and we also know that Tesla has this extra special ingredient of the passion and and loyalty realty that it stirs in people. And we'd somehow add that as well and I just think they they didn't want to trust it to just the Blue Oval Badge on the front or or any other brand that they had in the portfolio. They thought that they could make an emotional reaction by using Mustang. And and I I think it's GonNa blow over eventually especially when the car start getting people's hands and people started driving them two years from now a year from now But eventually you're gonNA find a die hard Ford person who's complaining now who ends up buying a mock easy to use as their daily driver with a bunch which of other regular mustangs in the garage for the weekend. And that's GonNa that's GonNa be shown to be like the the the most awesome setup and and I think it will actually start start being bought by those fifty older Mustang people. I I'm just I'm not seen it happen. I'm not seeing it happen. And you know it's it's interesting that you pointed out that Ford used its most storied nameplate. It's most storied moniker that it has in its inventory to make vehicle that kinda competes with Tesla. Aw that that that kind of that sells it right. There for couldn't make something that they felt was a full-on knock it out of the park. Hey the thing is awesome and it's going to dominate segment. They knew okay. We're GONNA try to wrap this up and sell a lifestyle because we're not quite there yet. It.

"The MACHI GT. Which is the fastest plus sense? Ford hasn't sold that many employees the company still has its full Number of of federal tax rebates and those equals seventy five hundred dollars. So if you buy a mock e you get you still get seventy seventy five hundred dollar tax credit and that makes a big difference especially when you're comparing the prices to say when the model e comes out Tesla does not have that rebate anymore more because it sold so many electric cars. Now you will have to wait a little while for Amok e they're taking pre orders now you can put down a five hundred dollar refundable deposit but they're not going to start arriving until closer to the end of two thousand twenty and those will be more expensive versions like there's a first edition in a and a premium version that I think they're selling

"The fact that Ford has used the Mustang name for this vehicle though is a bit much for some like my co host to swallow. I however think think it's a stroke of brilliance it's editor versus editor on this week's episode Chris. Welcome to the PODCAST. John I just want to say it's happy I'm happy to be here. You're my friend rand. We're still going to be France after that'd be friends out. We're going to be friends after this let everybody know that right up front. It hasn't felt like that sometimes in our chat room this past week because we have gotten into some serious back and forth about this car this name using it and this is the first time that we've actually spoken out loud about it not not chat room so I'm really excited to put this to bed. Although I will say at the end of the show if either of US convinced the other her it'll be it'll be a good talk it'll be it'll be good all right so let's I want to set the stage because we have actually a pretty interesting coincidence. Why don't you tell? Why don't you tell the audience audience? What what car do you drive a Mustang okay? Why don't you ask me John? What car do you drive drive? A Tesla okay. So I I feel you'll like we were kind of born into the camps that were in in terms of this debate But that's good because I think we both know our side as well well as anyone who can argue it I would certainly agree with that and I mean we both have We both have strong opinions on this on both sides. I just need to say that I don't really consider myself that typical Mustang owner that Minds a little bit older. It's a ninety five. It's a project car doesn't get driven all the time but I throw snow tires on it. Drive it in the winter. I'm not afraid of electric power. That's coming so it's it and and and I will say has the week has gone on. I've soften often a little bit of softened a little bit on my stance but not. Yeah no this is like you're still gonNA WE'RE STILL GONNA throw down here. You're unveiling a soft spot for me to attack. Okay well I you know. I'm glad you brought that up because I also feel like I'm not the typical Tesla Fan. Boy I certainly like the company and I bought the car because I think it's great but I don't don't think everything he does is perfect. I don't think that you know Tesla's the be all end all and I like when other companies like Ford you'd try to come out with a great electric product and I think the Machi is the best to come along. Challenge Tesla to date so so. Yeah I think we're both kind of have an open. Mind now on your side of the debate about using the Mustang name for the machi. There's already a petition. started by a friend of the website. Jimmy Dinsmore who is a Mustang expert. He's written books on the Mustang and he writes about it a lot. He already has a petition. Going to change the name aimed at something else. Let me ask what is the. What is the petition up to do you have to you? Know what I'd I'd I don't have that handy. I could probably pull really quick. I know when we when we wrote the the article on it It was actually despite twenty four hours ago. We wrote that article on it and it was exciting about. Actually I think I was number nine hundred on that on a petition and I'm bringing it up right now a few hours after that it almost doubled and feel though right now make yeah. Tell us what it is if you can pull it up four thousand nope nope five thousand six hundred thirty thirty one actually thirty two thirty three hundred thirty five. It's it's getting some traction. What number do you think it would have to reach to make four take it seriously really? It's there's one hundred thousand no number that will that will change. Its course on this. You say that and before we get into our abate we should point out. You may reference in your debate but there was a time when Ford had plans to replace the Mustang. With what would eventually become the Ford probe. You know what what the probe became was going to be our next generation Mustang and word got out and there was such a negative reaction that that Ford actually reverse decision and decided to continue on with the Fox Body Mustang for a while longer so there is precedent afford changing. Its mind mind when making a decision about the Mustang brand and what the Mustang will be absolutely and I mean I think a fair amount of people know that story what what people don't necessarily realize that's the reason really. The Fox platform went on so long and the Mustang. I mean it was. It was kind of the running joke through the nineteen ninety s then into the early two thousands the various publications and say Oh yeah the Mustang with its Fox platform going back to nine hundred seventy nine. Well Yeah Ford was going to actually can the Mustang there in the late eighties. He's and you're right. The outcry was so strong that force. It okay well maybe we better not do this and well and it was either live on with the rear wheel drive five ten year old Fox platform or accept the switch to front wheel drive which it sounds like that was the step to lifting. Couldn't handle it definitely. That was the step too far. And you know there's even a more recent president of that if you remember John when Ford. I announced that they're gonNA come out with this electric crossover crossover. It was called the Mach One. And the mach one has a very storied history Throughout the mustangs. Pass back in the late sixties. And then when they brought it back in two thousand and three and there was tremendous outcry on that and Ford reversed. Its course and said okay. Well it won't be. He called the Mach One. Because I feel like Mustang enthusiasts would be happy with the just the mach one name being used and not the Mustang name. I think they would. We've taken that as a Compromise at this point but they were pretty shocked when the car debuted last weekend and the must not only was the Mustang name attack. I mean it it is the Mustang Mach E it is not the Machi it is a monkey. And there's not a Ford Badge on the car. The Mustang A horse is dead center in the in the grill. So yeah I think Mustang enthusiasts would rather take that back Them Complaining Lina by does the Mach One. And if the if the Mustang name wasn't going to be used that that would be I mean well we've already seen. That's I think that's just as upsetting. Because because the mach one I I mean Mustang has been in various forums. You know as far as four cylinder six hundred Sherm Mach One was always just a straight up muscular. Va Shaker Hood. Here's some power okay. Well let's say I think there was a mock one variant in the in the in the late seventies seventies but the way I think that did you like them the twist on the mach one name with Machi. Yes I like it very much because it draws on that Mustang history. That Ford is so keen to try to sell this vehicle with without really stepping on the history. It's the MACHI. It's a brand Iran new model and I mean that makes total sense to me and so you you think they should have just done that without using the Mustang name or the Horse Badge this this you know even even the Horse Badge out of thing I would have quite as much trouble with because Ford along when this first came out when they first we started talking about. This Ford said it's Mustang inspired it's Mustang inspired it's Mustang inspired. I'm still a little confused as to why they said Mustang inspired expired all this time and then once they finally revealed it. Oh it's not Mustang. Inspired we're calling it Mustang and and just having this having this be the Ford Machi I think would accomplish the exact same goal that Ford is trying to do with this and and I get it. They're trying to garner some of that. Mustang pedigree agree and market. This has an exciting funded drive. Electric Crossover which electric crossovers generally aren't billed. Right now it was fun to drive or exciting but while and also there aren't really that many out there so they see themselves as maybe we can step in in sure and try to grab some attention so I feel like you're you're already getting into your arguments before you go too far. I WANNA for for those. Who Haven't been following the Maki's introduction? I want to go through some of the the salient points about it. So everybody knows exactly what we're talking about so what the Machi is sort of a compact excised four door hatchback slash crossover. That's kind of the vehicle type if you can picture that in your head. It is all electric with battery sizes that that provide ranges of between two hundred and thirty and three hundred miles which is very competitive to hit that three hundred mile mark is very difficult old and so far Tesla has been the only one to even get above. I think to seventy In terms of range zero to sixty depending on the a model you get ranges from five point five seconds which is the slowest to three point. Five seconds for the fastest. which is the Mach e GT? Actually John John. I gotta jump in really quick because the slowest is actually mid six second range. Oh did I get the wrong with six second. Okay thank you I I try to stack the deck. It's all right. Ah We'll see all right rear wheel drive or all wheel drive is available and of course with all wheel drive. There's a there's a hit two range as usual with with electric cars. I would say it's clearly aimed directly at the Tesla Model Y which is a similar type vehicle. That isn't available yet. But it's kind of like the the Taller Crossover version of very popular Tesla model. Three the the interior of the Machi is pretty wild especially for Ford. It's got a giant fifteen and a half inch screen of vertically oriented kid. It's got another screen in front of the driver and so it really departs. I think from most of Ford's normal passenger cars with some very innovative and forward word thinking Design inside the pricing. I would say the pricing undercuts similar electric vehicles from German. Automakers I like the Ron from Mercedes. The Jaguar and those vehicles actually have a worse specifications in terms of range. So that is a nice advantage for the Ford It's priced from below forty thousand dollar range to sixty thousand four.

SEGARD that story for US last month pointing out that bing in retail and consumer brand trae group the American apparel and Footwear Association by name had asked the federal government but Amazon on its list of and this is the quote from the text notorious Markets Regulation for counterfeit goods as in. There are a lot of them on Amazon. And we promise we would get back to you about some of the more suspect items. That Merrill had gotten there so here you go as soon as I hand Arielle Eli is one of the items she skeptical. Its just kind of in this mylar bag. Eliah is an expert on counterfeit goods at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. The product in the mylar bag was advertised on Amazon as a luxury fashion designer iphone case but if it were to be from a luxury brand it would definitely be in probably a beautiful box of some sort she pulls Out The case. It's Brown with gold lettering. That says Louis Vuitton Paris it has the LV logo on the back. She's already pretty sure. It's a fake and then I tell her it costs twenty two ninety nine. Oh my God okay. Levy on typically cells or cell phone cases anywhere from fits simple one with maybe just the monogram. It's about three hundred and seventy others cost well over a thousand dollars okay. So we didn't need an authentic cater to tell us that a twenty three dollar Louis Vitton iphone case is as a fake tricia. Tories has rule of thumb for this kind of stuff. You know if something seems too good of a deal to be true yes it is too good to be true. You're not getting the quality item that so you think you're getting Tories Vice President of aspects a small company that makes bird feeders that sell for between fifteen eighty bucks. She emailed me after our last story to tell tell us that her products have been counterfeited and sold on Amazon alongside fake designer iphone cases. Like the one we bought and fake handbags and sneakers and t shirts in dietary supplements a couple of weeks ago I visited the aspects factory in Rhode Island all of the product that aspects manufacturers. Everything that we make ships ships from this location in two thousand sixteen. Tori's got a phone call from a customer who bought an aspects product from a third party seller a company that uses Amazon as a sales platform form in two thousand eighteen. Almost sixty percent of Amazon's product sales came from third parties. That's where the counterfeit problem is. The customer was calling Tories about a Hummingbird bird feeder. Basically it's a clear bowl that holds the nectar from the hummingbirds defeat from and. Then there's a red cover that kind of just snaps on the top in what happened is it just was not snapping on aspects offers a lifetime guarantee so Tories told the customer to send it back then she sent it to her supplier in Massachusetts. They came back to us with with. We didn't make this. The hummingbird feeder was a fake but a convincing one. It even had her company's name and phone number on it. A lot of sleepless nights dotted with that phone. Call saying how. How did this happen and what do we do now? She looked on Amazon and realized there were a lot of fake aspects products. She ordered some and then as we got them here and look at them. We could see minor details spelling things that were spelled wrong. The packaging was a little bit off. The color was off. Customers would never know the difference until something something went wrong so aspects pay nearly ten thousand dollars to file its existing trademarks in the databases for us and Chinese Customs. We basically made them almost almost like a showing tell. This is what is wrong. This is what we're looking for a couple months later. Officials seized a container of thirty eight hundred counterfeit aspects products headed from China to a street address in the Bronx. Then another container even so aspects kept getting phone calls from disgruntled people who thought they'd bought its Products they'd say the Suction Cups my bird feeders. Stop sticking people just be like well. Just send me the suction cups. Just Send Me Suction Cups and I'm like okay. We can but the problem is. I'm on replacing parts now for a product that I didn't manufacturer the company tried telling people we didn't make this product. Please return it to Amazon. That didn't didn't go over well. They're knee jerk. Reaction was that we were just being dishonest and not standing behind that lifetime guarantee Tori says this did irreparable damage to aspects reputation and she estimates that counterfeits on Amazon have cost her company about a million and a half dollars in sales over the past few years. That's around four percent of aspects revenue. The new Amazon will take down listings of counterfeit products. When they're pointed out but Tori says it's a game of whack a mole? Joe Bad guy can already have started another storefront by the next x day. Amazon declined interview. But it said in a statement but last year it blocked more than three billion suspected bad listings. That's Amazon's praise from its site. So far courts have been reluctant to hold Amazon responsible for fake products sold by third parties. We bought a couple counterfeit items on Amazon and since our initial story the sellers are still active. One of them is currently offering an earbud case with Gucci logo for Thirteen Ninety nine. I'm Maryelle SAGARRA FOR MARKETPLACE MARIELLE experts to check out a bunch of things she bought on Amazon. You can see. Our Quality Assurance follow up at marketplace.

"In Los Angeles. I'm Kai Ryssdal his Monday today. The Eighteenth Day of of November. Good as always to have long everybody. We are going to lead with a story about brand and brand history and the requirements of a company. Take a changing economy and on a warming planet. We took a quick detour out to the west side of La yesterday an airplane hangar out by the airport rented for the evening evening by the Ford Motor Company the public unveiling all electric Ford Mustang. SUV THE ICONIC Mustang making it electric and and then Oh yeah it's an SUV via big deal for a company that's made some big investments in electric but which hasn't until now arguably had much to show for it. So that is where I started. I started with Ford CEO. Jim Hackett at the big reveal last night standing next to the car pointing out that when messes with the Mustang at one's peril Actually phrase by me as you're messing with the heart of the company no joke and so the diligence we put into it and the care extraordinary ordinary. Am I overstating the case if I say this is the future of the company. I think we've got a lot of great things going but let's just say I'm taking it as serious as anything that I've got on my plate right now so I'm really confident that we've got this right but because we're taking reservations. We get to tell pretty quickly if customers loved love this. Who are you competing against this car? Well on the way the world will see it as a tesla kind of competitive product back for sure and you know. We're sitting in an area where Tesla heads Tesla's literally right next door. I mean you go out of this hangar. And you'd think right and Tesla's there had a lot of success. I actually Dr Get to joke that I compete with a rocket scientists every day. The thing that you have to understand about Ford is we build an F.. One fifty every fifty eighty three seconds. Yeah the the most popular in America which is in the world. This is the number one vehicle made in the world so the world not seen a competitor like us us in this realm. So I'm really optimistic. That what we will be doing is offering customers who've not thought about electrification even from Tesla the opportunity to switch to something like this Pullback for me and let's talk big picture global car industry that competitive environment and Frankly global trade. You said a year ago that the still an aluminum tariffs that cost your company. A billion dollars Is it now two billion and counting over two to three years it it got over a billion seven and Because there was some relief but I think the bigger principle symbol that I've been public about his trade for it to work every choirs equilibrium. If you look up the definition of that it's two opposing forces the balance each other so the notion of US having to countries like China. ESPN opposition about trade is not depressing. We've got to agree on the way we work together. That equilibrium will cause the stock market boom. Because there's a lot of investment that's going to go back and forth and I believe our president actually actually did a good job of making it clear what we need from our side. I don't think there's any Dismissive ness now coming from the other side. And so that's a good thing but but I think it's time for us to bring it to conclusion. Where are you gonNa make this thing by? The way are mustangs at large or made in Flat Rock Michigan we produce over one hundred thousand a year there. This vehicle will be down in the center of Mexico was always the place I can hear the president on the phone right now but this this is a cool trade because we didn't lose any jobs for this to happen Because we had capacity sitting there we can't have idle plans and we just signed the UAW agreement where we made bigger commitment for investing in the United States. So they've they've kind of. They're very happy with us. I wanted to dig into that equilibrium thing for a minute because it's an interesting concept And and yet I think a lot of people out there would say that what has happened is that the president has put global trade into disequilibrium. He has disrupted. It's something that While not ideal had some measure of balance to it How do we recover from this? Well I you know I don't want to speak for the President United States but let me just suggest. There's a large population of business people who agreed with him that we needed to be more assertive. About what American needed in this burgeoning relationship with China it's just grown and extraordinary way. Unlike any time in history so this was bound to happen so I think my endorsement was. If there's a time to have a decisions about it and a discussion. This was this was good. It's just that needs to get resolved. Do you think the American economy is fundamentally strong. And that's why the president is is able able to prosecute this trade war. Well I think he's had a hand in helping it strength. I think the the kind of optimism he brought for business investment. They kind of the way he reduced. Some I'm of Some of the legislation that was Kinda hampering. The growth is GDP I think that's all Fared well you know. The car industry's had had a great five-year run here and You'd have to say that the president was sitting near that is also I think a tighter your handle on American workers and their their Their their future. There's an obligation. I feel it as 'cause I ran another company. Where you've got to be highly considerate of making sure? You're taking care of that workforce in your global footprint decisions how the tipping point here is is. We can't make everything in America. This new vehicle is going to be sold around the world so you you actually need the benefit of different kinds of suppliers average your costs down but your net employment if it grows. It's good for everybody and that's what's happening in our net employment in the United States has grown in the last five years. What happens if this doesn't hit? You're talking to a guy who has a long silence. I'm really competitive repetitive. So I just don't see losing on this score. I think that whatever we hear from our customers we've designed this so we can make adaptations the away the software inside the vehicle can help performance. So I don't I don't feel that at all Jim Hackett. Thanks a lot appreciate guy for the coverage radio magic being being. What is Mr Hagen and I actually talked about a half an hour or so more about the car more about how he runs? Ford also the parallels between getting Jim Harbaugh to coach Michigan in football and betting the ranch on an electric Mustang. SUV Trust me. The analogy holds up. All of it is up now on our corner office podcast. We shot a video while we were out there as well. L. Ford shares fled on the day. Same as it happens as the major indices. We'll have the details when we do. The numbers and manufacturers was and retailers in the vaping industry looked up a lobbying wind today. President trump is being widely reported has decided to back off an earlier pledge to ban the sale of most flavored e cigarettes. Here's marketplace's and dealer with what's going on there. PIPEDREAMS is a smoke shop on the University of Texas campus. In Austin it sells pipes cigarettes vaping liquid e figure at the disposable ones have been really popular over here store manager. DASA FRUIT AND SPRUNG says one brand in particular has driven business business here when the Joel came out. That's kind of when it really took off fruit and strong says she has to keep up with federal regulation because that dictates what she stocks in her store. Labor Department data shows that small vape shops like this one had been the fastest growing retail segment for the last decade estimates. Put the number of vape stores in the. US said anywhere from fifteen to twenty one thousand race story with Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association has a federal ban on nicotine. Flavors would be a death sentence. For vape shops. Nicotine is codeless and flavourless. So therefore if you ban flavors its de facto ban on the entire category while mom and pop stores have proliferated. The biggest player is still jewell jewell which sells its products in about one hundred thousand gas stations and convenience stores desma Jensen with the public law center at Hamline. University is disappointed with the trump administration's apparent apparent reversal. The longer we delay action on flavors the more kids get hooked on cigarettes but facing criticism lawsuits for marketing. To young people. Jewel already got rid of its e CIG flavors except tobacco and Menthol. The company confirmed last month. Plans to cut roughly five hundred jobs about fifteen percent of its workforce by the end of the year ear. Jewel did not get back to US before deadline. I mean either for marketplace.

"I don't know if you heard if there's anything you can find about that. McQueen story MAXA pattern but it's a pretty good one. I'll buy some time. If you want to talk a little about Schumacher acker yeah man yeah I was just a an update came out recently. I think today as a record this that I don't know maybe it shows a little progress with Michael Schumacher which I'd love to see he's reportedly bend to a doctor's office and on and the doctors known for doing like stem cell research stem cell injections and stuff so I guess he's gone a few times or somehow. Hi was involved with with meeting this meeting. This person and it's been it's been some years now but and very quiet you know the whole family. Everyone is very very secretive about this whole thing and I guess it's I guess it's okay to speculate as opposed to to to put words in people's mouths and take away from his racing legacy but it could be interesting and maybe we are at a time where where something like this can and show some progress. I mean there's the Christopher Reeves thing and that was so long ago and now where are we what's with Schumacher in now for whatever your best guess would be so for the longtime they were saying pretty much vegetable state like with a tube and and everything and then and there was an update. I forgot how long ago a year ago maybe where there were like showing some movement like moving ahead around or or or you know more. I blinking you know something like that which I doesn't sound like much but I guess any sort of progressive movement is huge food and to the point where now they're you know can they do they put him in a wheelchair and bring him to a doctor but as far as we knew most of his treatments and everything his his his daily care was being taken ah home. I mean certainly have the resources for it is the most cloaked in silence of injury ever ride for this guy that big name yeah because really no one has any idea what's really going on and that's the way they seem to want it. It's a it's and Yuri have his injuries not overshadowing his his leg racing his injury was it's zip in ten years yeah I was. GonNa say like thirteen. I guess twenty thirteen but I guess it could be ten years. I I you know I used to do that all the time and then then I started thinking about Heath Ledger and he's been dead more than ten years and now I now. I don't do that anymore ad time on because I think he fled your died four years ago but he died eleven years ago or whatever it is. The accident was in two thousand thirteen thirteen o nailed it. You're good yeah all right and also there's no updates or anything so you just you just never know like in in six years has has been like to updates and none official is heaven heart car going to be worse something because it is. Kinda so famous right now okay but also this. This is not just any car. This is a speed core built car. Speed core is the same group that's building. Goldberg's cars. They did Robert Downey JR junior's Mustang that had and Robert Downey Junior. Oh had them build the car for Chris Evans that was on Jay Leno's garage. These guys build yeah. They're they're. They're the you know. They're getting all the heat right now. Lights far is like because there are so great the full carbon fibre challenger an so I mean. I don't know that this car itself. Gulf gets rebuilt because they cut the roof off of it to get them out but I would imagine that something's going to be salvaged from the car. Har and be used in some sort of but that's not what I'm asking. I'm saying it's pretty famous now. Oh so do the remains get a AH well. I looked at the engine. I don't know what the lump is. Worth fifty seventy five fifty grand yeah the lump then engine and let's just say it's in fine shape yet fifty grand. I it's it's not it's not going to be that much. It's thirty thirty grand. Yeah I get a fucking four banger built for five ten for third crate engine all day long. He should've Brian so actually I can't tell you the answer to this question but I know the answer this question obvious Kris told not to say anything yet okay. What are they going to do with the Monterey but see my feeling. Is You know the James Dean car of James Dean died yeah. Nobody died yeah but it's still very very famous car yes and if someone wanted to sell it for seventy five grand. You probably get your money back. If you sold at auction I mean me with the dirt in it and the leisure everything out her technically it is still Kevin Hart's car and he has a plan for it. Okay Oh okay and you know that plan yes. Why do you know the punk Goldberg and Speed Cork Guys Okay. They're gonNA do something for charity or something so something something. Did you find the story ory. You're lucky I'm not interested people go. I got an idea for a rally show but I can't say anything. I go okay good. You're so lucky I don't. I wouldn't and ask you anyway so your everyone's like I am not interested thank you but I am McQueen's story yeah so Stephen King when they're filming Lama his Co Star Luis Edlund and him had dinner US driving home from dinner and he had his twenty one year old assistant in the backseat of a hire car and hire car yeah so they are they hot. Hr Car looks like just a okay so he wasn't in his nine eleven. No okay are we doing now. We don't know uh-huh so he rolls the car but they're all three in the same car yeah. They're all three in the same call now. If it's a nine eleven there is no backseat. He's just sitting up on on a shelf or the one with no legs right so he rolls the car and then the assistant breaks his arm breaks great zone arm and takes the blame for the accident and holding its hushed up his Co Star in the frontier never took another movie role since and went into politics and yeah. It was very very hush hush. Wait so the assistance not even not even a ton of it's on the Internet system went into politics. No no no the the coastguard. Okay okay I got you. I was like a weird on a lateral move. They had to put I shot in the documentary mantra like they had to put makeup on her because she had like a black is okay but t answer the question that you were saying. Is You got the broken arm. Anti Dante made them take the blame. You're driving the car. I was never there. She was in the car with you and I'm guessing if he's in France and he he's leaving dinner. He may have had a couple of glasses of wine. Yeah yes yeah yeah. They said there's silence because the scandal could have ruined the film. That's what it was. I I know McQueen is the king of cool by the he he wasn't he. I don't think it was a nice guy the break his arm for you. Oh my God I could tell some clean their office like I'm going to sue dude. I can't even imagine what can you well. You can't tell anyone I work with the do anything. I can't even tell I forget about raking. Someone's arm first of all the give way is is the car automatic or stick as far as somebody taking the blame for your address it because yeah no can drive us. Gary can drivers rivaz stick. Gary could drive a sick so you're going to be testing out the new Lambeau Uris yeah so actually actually this this weekend I am going to Sausalito to drive the Mustang Ego boost performance pack and with the Turbo four four four the turbo they're taking the performance sort of the GT suspension and brakes and all that and putting putting it on the ego boost so if you WanNa have some fun and and do turbo upgrades and all that other stuff you can still get all the handling and braking characteristics. I've gotta I tell you and then the Lamborghini yeah next weekend. Mustang have really made some strides big time and the thing about Mustang Mustang is they were they were good at the beginning. Although let's let's not overdo it. Go I go to a car auction. See A sixty-nine Shelby Mustang Three fifteen stand at it stand stand eight feet away and look at it and tell me if you're in love like the fucking front ends its nine inches higher than the rear end. Everyone of those fiery laws hoods are like bowed yeah. I mean look I. I like what they represented a cool cars but the build quality holiday was never luck sixty. Luck sorry keeps in Mustang fi first off the notch backs never looked good in any any way shape or form just not attractive cars they worked but they're not good looking that only leaves you with the fast backs and that only leaves you with like sixty five sixty six. I I mean there's a convertible but you're not included. I kind of like the convertible I'll go with the convertible fastback convertible notchback yeah and I leave a space and then notchback. I hate the way they look pause anyway so then and you really only had like two years two and a half years sixty four sixty five sixty six and then they went to different body styles and then you you know the the the Boston area to Kinda cool but they just fucking completely then they strung together like forty years of shed and I know you like all the junk but I mean just fucking antennas screw on the front yeah fake hood scoops and fake brake duct coolers in the back back. Just fake plastic dunk everything and in the last ten minutes. They've totally got their shit together. Yeah they really and they got their styling pulling together. They got their interior together. They got their performance together. They finally just entered like the modern realm of cars Harz like they there. There was always like you would look at a Audi and then you would look at a lower her ass Chalon Porsche and you look at a you know. I'm not talking about top of the heap turbo. Whatever I'm just talking about sort of like I don't know the portion worship what was their what's their little mid engine and came in came in you know early I Jan Audi whatever and BMW m. m three and Mercedes had some offerings or something and it's like and then you look at a Mustang and you go blah like why don't you fucking do some of this once you enter this enter this realm and they just never would do it like they would still have the intent on the front on the front fender and it'd be like why are you doing. Oh Yeah it's fake hood scoop and you go look at the Audi look at the Porsche. BMW Look at look at the BMW M Coupe look at the BMW me three years. "So certainly that's an interesting show this week. Yeah. It was a fun chat with Kevin. As normally always is with. It is hard to believe that twenty years ago was the end of the tar wars in supercars, and there would be some because fans don't even realize that there was ever a tar will in supercars. But it was a change was the best move for the category. That's an interesting question, which I think still gets debated around a few different barbecues and motorsport circles. I had three or four years of Rodney about the tar wars. And I certainly enjoyed it enormously are still have a remnant of Peter Brock's lost veteran count championship round the tie that exploded or park that year. Pizza that tie was. Confiscated by Brian more Brown. That was correct by both Yokohama Dunlop obstacle. Got the piece that anyway, another time.

"My red Mustang Cobra was out there. And so your car is going to be outside by that like drifting pad out front, right. Okay. Here's a little heads up. I parked my car there a couple of years ago and holy shit. Those drifting guys lay down a lot of dirt and rubber your car is going to be covered. I'm gonna kill all of them prior to doing it for their well. We'll figure kid coda wax on that baby before it heads out there. So everything washes off easily by man, I, I was the only card I wanted to splayed with the hood open because for me it was all about all and it just it just I mean, of course, I brought the car back and took it all apart and rebuilt it anyway because it was sort of slapped together just for Seema nothing was torque down. Yeah, no, I know. That's the prising. Yeah, surprising. And here I am two years later it it's it's still over there and I was working on this week and. But I'm telling you, it's like. It's like going to the beach, and you got just sand in every crack. It's about the frenzy that's going on right now as you and I can relax bit. Let's just think about all these manufacturers and all the all, the all the builders and everybody all the bills, every single person that let's just take a breath and sit back and just think about what everybody's going through right now when we're less than a week away from Sima. I know I'm not showing anything this year. It's where we're gonna go out and do some podcasting and stuff. It's going to be fun, but but it's going to be not a light year, but certainly no car projects this year, but we'll say maybe maybe in the future, but. Hey, hey, we'll get the grab some dinner and have a couple of drinks when a little bit of money got assigning, you know, Emag afloat than a car capsule right afterwards on Thursday, man, this is a light beam for, let's have a little bit of, so what's your Sima schedule? What should people look for? You're going to be all there. They're all week or a few days, and you're gonna get. I'm flying in Halloween and Thursday, which is next day two to three PM. I'm at the maga- flow booth and three to four PM. I am at the card capsule booth and then you know, the only thing you're gonna see me as the back of my bald head because I'm gonna be walking out the door and the looking for looking for the mayor blackjack black. All right. So you're basically coming in like Wednesday, Thursday is your day at Sima. So guys look for look for Bill in the Magna flow booth and the car capsule booth myself, I will be. With my shift and steer boys, Aaron, Hagar, Brad, Fanshawe. We will be doing shifting steer every day from the Magna flow booth. Actually, we're going to be doing a podcast right around the time you're doing your signing. But I believe we are. Let me just double check that times. We know. So Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were in the magnet flow booth at one forty, five to two forty, five. We have a great line of guests. We've got Jesse. James. We've got Ken Lingenfelder. We got were buddy just an offer from Ford Motor sport Cody Stroud coming in..

"Yeah, I'm not Twining in their weaker language. I'm not so good at those. Okay. So moving on moving on, I did a trip to San Francisco for the. For big precedent with with Ford Mustang. They're releasing the Mustang bullet. Now. We had a Mustang bullet and I think, oh one and eight. Does that sound right? That sounds about right? Yeah. I think we had a no one and always. So we had like an Esa ninety five body style and an s. one ninety seven body style. If I had to guess that's you being a Mustang guy. I'm going to give it to you on that one. This was a great event so they, they, they secured a hotel that was an an old. Military fort. Right? So there's lots of several little buildings. You know, there's like a grand building, then lots of little buildings and you know, it's pretty much on the water, big grass area. It's fantastic right at the edge of the Golden Gate Bridge. I was gonna say, I know exactly where it is that military base right there on the edge Italian Palo point or something like that. And it's it's on the sausalito side which by the way that town confused me, I went to dinner and all the restaurants closing at six PM why the place was packed. And I was like, great. I commend style reclosing, but there's a thousand people in here and they're like, I know we're closing. We close at six. I was like, do you understand what dinner is? They were like, you've got a clear town, man, you must be from out of. You've got to get out of your dark. You know, walked by her like shoes. That was close dodge that one. They they brought out. I don't know eight or ten of these Mustang bullets out there, and they had of for almost the whole week had people come in and and do drives and do photographs, and do some interviews with some of the Ford staff people and. What I was invited to do was to fly up to San Francisco, go to the hotel, like on the last day, meet with everybody, spend a day there, and then Saturday drive the car home, a handful. I got to drive one of them home, get sort of a road trip experience with it. So these guys at Ford are no dummies like hailing, we need to get a transport all these cars back to LA. Let's still some of the best guys they can drive them home. Why fly the guy home and he'll pay for his own guests pay for the transport of it on ethnic. They're smart while they were there. They had forgot the guys named Sean. I think he he has the original Mustang bullet. Oh, yeah. The one that they found recently. Yeah, that was the one for tiger free and stuff is as well. They put on a great event. The guys that I met with were were fantastic. We got into the super nerdy conversation about technology and the car industry and just like way beyond the bullet. Yeah, we're just sitting at the bar. Just getting into these things and I'll tell you like the overall feeling on it is this is is I don't know. I always being a Mustang guy. I've always saw the Mustang as like a great kind of fun sports car with a great legacy..
