Quarter American Indian mothers have tight quartered Chinese in Puerto white, So you are. That's why you Americans, son? Yeah, Tiger has been world famous for decades in his story. It comes with many chapters. Groundbreaking achievements. Tiger Woods is the 100 U. S Open champion in history shocking fall from Greece. I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior. He was on Mount Everest. And now he's at the bottom of the ravine. And, of course, what many believe is the greatest sports comeback of all time. Many doubted we never see it. But here it is the return to glory. But few people have really gotten to know Tiger. And winning you. C bear Cats are ranked seventh in the country. "Thing was Murray State got deep into the play clock that time and you could see Fine. I won't call it frantic, but they were trying to get the playoff. Certainly the right tackle was looking at that, Saul. We're down to two seconds. We need to move this and he came out of his stance early again. Now it's third down and 10 for the racers at the Bearcat 28. Three receivers spread out wide to the right one goes out to the left rice waiting for the shotgun snap. Cincinnati sends five rice running up the middle of the field of the 20, and he will pick up the first down as he scrambles to the bear Cats 16 yard line. They had him looking that time and they bought just pushed around the sides and man Rice did a great job. Preston righteous, stepped up in the pocket and knew that he could get to the first down marker and dead. No lane integrity. Yes. Pass rush there for Cincinnati. Everybody got washed out wide. Leaving a wide open lane to run through for Preston Rice. So Murray states in the Red Zone 1st and 10 at the Bearcats 16. It's a run to the right. Castile will not get back to the line of scrimmage. Tackled for one yard loss by Joel de Blanco. Good pursuit that time. No place at all to go and bear cats warm to that ball that time over the on the tackle that time on the ball after the ball carriers, so no pick up whatsoever actually lost two. Make it one loss of one. Officially, we have one minute and five seconds to go in the first quarter, the bear cats have run three offensive plays. Remind me which of these teams is Number seven in the country. You wouldn't know based on how the right now has gone second down and 11 for the racers. We have no score. Rice throws great throw caught at the 10. Our Queen Bush shoves the receiver Jacob Bell out of.

Who Invented the High Five?

"The origin of the high five is kind of disputed slash not really exactly known a forerunner to the high five was the low five part of black american culture since at least the nineteen twenties. But when did it turn up. High and spread further afoot. Was it from the women's volleyball circuit in the nineteen sixties american. Gi's in tokyo during world. War two apparently magic johnson even once implied that he invented it while it michigan state's which blows my mind because my dad was in the same dorm building as magic johnson. Who like was my dad present for the invention of the high five. Probably not. But i suppose i should ask him just in case. Even if magic johnson himself didn't create it he was most likely there when it first started taking off of the top contenders for its origin. They all take place in the late. Nineteen seventies in the world of sports. One story goes that it was created by wiley brown and derek smith from the university of louisville cardinals during the nineteen. Seventy eight seventy nine basketball season. Since their team was nicknamed the doctors of dunk. Doing the standard low five didn't make sense. Their team was all about that vertical movement so they started slapping their hands together when held high above their heads. Brown and smith who passed away in nineteen ninety-six. Get a big chunk of the credit for creating the high five in the press and one reason is because so much footage of the cardinals. High fiving tests highlight reels. A level of evidence not shared by many of the other origin stories but another origin story. A lot of people are familiar with. Is that lamont. Fleets a basketball player from murray state. University also playing around nineteen seventy nine. The story goes that lamont's dead lamont's leads senior had served in the first battalion. Fifth infantry in the vietnam war the infantry was nicknamed the five and after the war when lamont junior was just a little kid. The guys would often stop by his house to visit with his dad. They'd created their own greeting a arm. Straight up with five fingers spread as they said five

Notable Developments on the College Basketball Coaching Carousel Scuttlebutt

"A lot of movement on the coaching carousel. Over the past couple of days the big. One of course was indiana firing archie miller. After four seasons. We talked about that on a previous podcast. So go find it. We're not going to spend any time on that here but let me walk you through the other notable developments richard patino out at minnesota and as up tuesday morning. He's the new coach at new mexico. State has quote parted ways with steve. Prohm depaul finally took. Dave laid off the hot seat list. Boston college hired earl. Grant penn state hired mike castrucci berry dead leg spin a pretty good right now. It's spinning man. Yeah listen we give the. We are gearing up for this tournament. We got we got more than forty eight hours till. We're gonna tip the first game here so as expected. We've had some movement on the carousel. So we'll let's get into a little bit of this This scuttle but here kind of take it job by job. Best job openings indiana. Let's kind of go in order. I guess second best job. That's open. I would say iowa state is a better job than minnesota steve. Prohm gets fired late monday night. His jamie pollard was on the selection committee so he traveled back as he should have to meet with promo person and do what he what needed to be done You and i both seven the podcast in january. We expected steve prone to return next season. But we also didn't expect iowa state to never win a game like he just got to an irreversible point. so he's done. He put out a classy statement on tuesday morning. And i don't know whether or not steve prohm will land somewhere else head. Coaching position this coaching cycle but he will be a head coach again. He did take iowa state to three inch tournaments he was really good prior to that at murray state and certainly qualified for. It's just a matter of Is there anything out there. That he would be offered or anything out there that he would want as for the job. The candidates we're early. But i'm told that this is certainly a coach that you know quite well as well i'm told jamie pollard definitely will be considering. Unlv head coach. Tj burger near the top of his list. I can't say that he is the favorite. I just think that it's objectively true. That tj also burger will be under consideration for the iowa state job along the likes of. You're going to hear puerto moser connected to multiple jobs on this podcast because let's face it especially if he wins at least one tournament game. He's just a hot name. And he's going to be attached to iowa st paul minnesota. I i don't know if you'd be a favorite for state. But i think his name makes sense. I think utah. State's craig smith might make sense and then a high. I do have a wildcard one. Uab's andy kennedy has gone to the sec. Good job at ole miss. He's just one year and at uab but he had he had a really good year. In fact i think he won more games in his first season. This past season than just about anyone. Maybe all of all of the first year coach coaches. So i think that's a fact no first year coach at a new program. One more games this season than ak i. It's just i'm lobbying out. There is a name that should be considered. And then i did see fran for shila tweet this and i do. I do think there's something to it. Like a baylor is a one seed could be in the final four. Hey first time since bill henderson all that good stuff tang is a is a high level power conference assistant that is deserving of an opportunity would come at a power conference level. I don't know. But i think it's only a matter of time before jerome tank. Its job as well. So i'm just tossing him in knows the league as potentially someone that They should consider or at least at the very least interview sets an initial pool of

"For Georgia it's Vandy Murray state Arkansas state we get there's no pre season in college so after the first couple games let's start with your team because obviously you know the best what do you see out of your team just a couple games into the season. well you know blending some veteran players with some young players together that you know as as you put together a new year a new team there's obviously holes to fill and guys a graduate and so you know really coming together with you know some young players and I I like the way we have progressed from you're the first game of the second day we saw a lot of guys at the one on the field last year making plays force and and then just you know continuity yeah I think the second half we started to to play together and you know all those things have to come together and you have to play you know four quarters against a very good Georgia football teams I think the first two weeks is really about you know learning more about ourselves guys coming together like you said you don't have pre season but for us the bye week came at a good time as as we started to put this football team together so the same thing on the Georgia side when you look at tape of their games again to over Murray state in Arkansas state again with with no pre season how much can you tell about them before a big game like this and not playing you know the power power five opponents well there are some some really good players but you know similar to us there's there's guys ready to step in that are outstanding football players you know they lost some key players on offense but your they've got some offense of players and wide receiver in particular ticket that our young players that you can see there are merging great depth at running back but I think in both instances both these teams have quarterbacks that hero can obviously handle whatever comes their way in you know Jake from was a freshman when he played here last time and play with great poise and confidence and now he's just so much better at that position in book obviously played very well force last year and gain more confidence and now has some new receivers and some new players around him. it is starting to feel much more comfortable as as we get a couple games under his belt so both quarterbacks will really be the big difference in this game I think both offense and defense of lines are really good there's some good skill players but the quarterbacks are gonna make a big difference and we're talking to Brian Kelly head coach at Notre Dame is a head down to Athens Saturday night to play Georgia number seven against number three and I mean you know you you look at two top rated quarterback slice your Trevor warns came on the scene was incredible going to a national championship in book an incredible completion percentage just under seventy percent Trevor warns of look like a struggle out of the gate a little bit and I think I know where you're going with this because you just mentioned new personnel out there in books completion percentage under sixty two percent what what is been at least early on a different you seen this year from last year. well you know we try to work on some of the things that we felt like we were important to be part of our offense and that is pushing the ball down the field vertically those are not going to be some of the higher percentage does he had last year you know if you remember watch and you know we were heavy RPO teens near we threw the ball out on the perimeter those are you know they better be high percentage throws but we need to push the ball vertically we've got to have bigger chunk plays and we've got a feature that and so you know I think the first week maybe not what we wanted I think the second week you saws taking shots down the field and we were much more effective so I think that's going to only get better as the season kind of you know rounds into form for us and you'll see that completion percentage start to creep up it is far as is players now again these are eighteen to twenty two year old and certainly some of the players have been starters for a couple years but when you go to a place you know so much build up for this game and you're going down to Athens and for some of these players on your team even though these are two huge programs it's going to be new to some of your players how do you deal with that the bright lights and the the how big this game is on some players who maybe haven't been in that position yeah. well yeah we actually have to expose a little bit to it you know we're fortunate with a new indoor facility and you know jumbo tron to here make sure that there's a lot of red on that board during our distraction in pre practice in a lot of noise because of those those those visual pieces can be a distraction to an eighteen to twenty two year old and if you're distracted for one second from the job that you're doing against the top quality football team you know that could be the difference in the in the football game so you you actually have to spend time on those kinds of you know visual things that they can get them off of what they need to do so we've worked on it the last couple of days yeah we had the noise cranked up and in the indoor and certainly we've been lucky here itself and that it's been warm enough to so we're acclimated to the conditions but you have to because it'll get distracted if you if you don't spend some time on. love college football you've come to the right place Chicago's college tail gate "There's Something About Mary" Actor: W. Earl Brown Interview

"My next guest is one of the most talented diverse actors i've ever had on the show. Please welcome w earl brown to the show. He's one of the best actors on a plane. That's certainly one of my favorites earl house like treating it today. It's going pretty excellent. I'm gonna tell you right now. I'm gonna kiss your ass. We're here you have perhaps the funniest pin tweet i have ever read in my life and i'll for those of you that are listening. I will go through a really quick in my career. I've been killed twenty twenty eight times so far. I've killed over forty and i lost my baseball that pretty much sums it up. I mean i could not stop laughing that assist in half to say so. I'm reading some ear your tweets here before i get into your life a little bit one. I completely agree with your take on casting directors actors and how they should receive some type of recognition from the from the academy. I am so on board with you on that. That was the first thing i thought when i saw that david but rubin has been named president of the academy that that finally they should be able to get recognition because it's the only department in in all of l. making the only department head. There's a head of casting that there's no oscar recognition in the never has been <hes> and that that's that's wrong so hopefully it will okay so that's that's insane because i have to tell you earl the fact that i had jackie burch on the show. I want to see a year ago. I mean she was the backbone for those unbelievable unbelievable. John hughes movies early on. She's one of the best casting directors on the planet and people don't know that because they know that but there's no you're right. There's gotta be some type recognition for these people's great work. Yeah i'm on board and two more things before we get to your life. You're a huge kiss fan. Is that accurate well. I'm a huge music fan rights across the board. That's like a lot of live shows on but yes as as a kid one of the things that right around the time. I thought i technically cognizant thought that i want to be in movies. I was a ratted kiss fan. Yes <hes> um and then <hes> so <hes> yeah. I've i've gone through numerous times over. You must follow my tweets. I am i'm going on the kiss cruise. I've been invited in years past to go and i can finally do it. I finished production on the show. I'm working on right now. <hes> <hes> right about the time of the crew so that was like you know what i'm going to one of my one of my buddies musician buddies from nationals going with me because my wife has desire higher hispanic tomorrow night in charleston. South carolina is legitimate like crews career away for a couple of weeks. Is that how that work yet. It's a five day cruise. It's a music cruise. I've done it the outlaw country cruise which is x._m. Series <music> outlaw and they do it in conjunction with six men. Six men also produces. The kiss cruise routes on the same boat. It's the same everything that's how i've been invited it. 'cause i've gotten to know all those guys and they found that i was a kiss. Fan like me just spoke so i'm finally doing for me. The twenty five hundred trunking rolling all night darting in every day in the guest navy man gene gene gene simmons does not get enough credit. He's done some beautiful things with make a wish kids but that's another story for another time. Do some really sweet things that people don't know about but the last tweet that i wanted to just before we get into your life is your recognition of the show the boys on prime. How freaking greed is that show. I i love it. I still got to shoot episodes. I think left to go yeah saddam idiots. It's it's disturbing. I'm riveted to it <hes> with you know it's such a social satire commentary on the world. We live in business that worked and the political system that we're all living. It's it's really really good and when you think about it and i won't ruin it for you because you have to left but when you think about it though it's that's exactly how superheroes would be if they existed. They wouldn't be like the marvel crew. They would be exactly like this right. Okay so let's get into your mazing life man here so you're born in western kentucky so the acting buds bog in performance bug has got a bite you right that grandparents grandparents house right because they do a lot of i don't wanna see entertaining because that's a terrible war. They put a well. How would you phrase it was the fourth i peter peter i ever attended was my grandparents torch it. Was you know it was farming. Culture and on the weekends are on sundays usually sunday afternoons afternoons after church. That's where everyone would gather. Isn't that was the one day they wouldn't be working. <hes> the the first time i really thought that i i wanna do that. I mentioned earlier of freshman year in high school three movies that just blew me away that it was the summer seventy seven seventy eight <hes> star wars halloween animal house. Those are the ones youngest pre trees videotape rentals. You know if you saw movie you had to see skaters so the movies i went back to seek multiple times where those three and they were the ones that really planted the seed. I've told by a family friend. I do do not remember this but i can remember being the ham as a kid telling jokes that stuff but she swears when i was around five years old at my grandmother's house. She said what she goes. You look to being you said monday. I'm going to be an actor in movies. I don't i don't remember it but she he swears so i guess that seat was planted earlier animal house. You have to say one of the things that you have that is really difficult difficult to get either. You have it or you don't that's my opinion on. This is a sense of humor because i i always have those people who say well. I'm funny like if you have to tell somebody. You're funny earl. You're not not funny and i believe that you've got that about you. Thanks there is there is a thing of timing that is kind of an inherent thing that if people don't have it you can't learn it <hes> it is an innate thing that really goes to the any kind of skill in any creative pursuit <hes> but yes. I do think there's a lot of great stand up comics folks who were not good actors and there's a lotta great actors who can't do comedy. I always found myself drawn towards the uh the artists that kind of <hes> did everything and shell silverstein and kris kristofferson and you know musicians as in writers and painters actors don't really think it all comes from the same place is different skill sets crafts skills involved also but that that need to create live in the moment and we share that with that i think is universal. No that's really really well said and i was talking to aunt cusak who's in the boys and she brought up second city in chicago and she was talking about that and how how that how you mentioned timing right so she was really focused on the timing part of it so it's interesting to hear you say it that way. It's really really well federal and it's it's just a story from my resume in how you approach stuff i i was a rabid seinfeld fan and i ended up getting cast on seinfeld with guest star and i never really been around. Any of those got is in leary had just won the award for master of my domain which i think alongside vitamin d benjamin lucie is the best half hour of television comedy ever written a bomb. There's some norman lear stuff that i would probably put come in that pantheon but but anyway just line so i find myself on the show cont- they fired another star in the middle of that week. I hadn't seen larry the entire time and we're about to shoot and mine was a big theme at the top of the show that sets the a. n. B. storylines in into play too big seen on a on a bus with george jerry so we've we've been rehearsing on the set. We're going to pre-tape that on an actual bus so there is shows up for the rehearsals we we go through it and as they're pulling the boss on the sound stage he goes earl is comically this. This seems not working not that coming so we go down to the other during the stage and he says let's let's run it. I'll be jordan jerry u._b. L. let's let's let's run it so we do it two or three times and he had this annoying habit habit of shaking his head no ever so slightly as we're doing it because i tell you i tell you what let's switch out the audi al u._b. George and jerry gary. Let's switch so we do it a couple of times switching roles. It was all right. Let's switch back so we slipped back back started doing this thing. He starts shaking his damned head and you know i don't lose my cool hardly ever do i even get nervous but man by ask was clinton in that. I'm gonna get tired. I said all right but let's and as he shaking his head ahead no and when i see all right what's what's the intention at the top of the scene. I mean the beat when i think of in terms of of the beats intentions intentions as an actor. <hes> you know that you enter a scene you you have a purpose for entering seeing that in that whole purpose that arc leeches through the seeing you have beats that that changed through the course of things leading toward the purpose so that's the way i think of stuff and i said so. You'll oh my intention when i entered the scene i i don't know him from from this week and he's looking at me with this incredulous look on his face me like i said oh. I didn't say this but i thought it. She doesn't think black a playwright. He doesn't think what beatson intentions each strictly comic rhythms bets. Ah the rhythm and pace of the saying fuck do it again. Let's do it again. I go back to the top and basically impersonated canadian him doing the part. That's it that's it. That's it that's it. That's the thing so that you know that was a learning process because that's the way he approaches stuff <hes> and then of course when we got he put himself in the scene as the man in the cape running on the bus and we get on the bus. I was too tall for the lights. I had to squat so that my face would appear on camera. I had he was the most unnatural thing in the world on on on camera on the frame it will but i had to do was incredibly comfortable and then we start filming the damn seen i can see his ball all hit the corner of my eye checking when he says that you know the larry sanders show exaggerated. I buy per cell nice not exaggerating there <music> but that but that's a that's a great point you bring up because you kind of he just has a different approach of how to do things. I mean look at your. I mean when i said had you were a diverse actor. I wasn't kidding all your work. Your filmography filmography is amazing so you must have as an actor those little. Those are the little things you have to learn along along the way that that obviously make you the actor you are today right. It's those little moments right. Is that a good way of looking at it yes but but it looks like not every situation. Are you perfect for our baseball game on right now. Not every great player fits on every t- recruit them and and in that situation it was it was uncomfortable for me. It turns out. It's aren't you know i'm i'm fine in it. I'm in the same cell thing <hes> and then other times. There's situations where it's just like. You know it's a perfect perfect fit. You just immediately click in with everybody that you're working with. Deadwood was that was just a really rare her <hes> situation that we were all firing on all cylinders and and we knew that we have something unique and it created hit a bond that that still exists a jerry stone pot that still exists between all of us yeah. It's an absolute work of art. I'm going to touch on that in a moment. I'm so yeah you we talked about these experiences. You you end up getting a bachelor's degree murray state you get your m._f._a. At depaul to great schools so so we get early on earl that you're the acting bug is bidu. You're you're very talented. You're you're certainly met to what you're doing but where who is your biggest influence fluence kinda coming along we mentioned some movies. We mentioned some moments but whether it's the paul murray state. Is there a mentor or somebody kind of growing up or developing your your your skill. Is there somebody that you really credit more than anybody else or is it just the the <hes> all these things taking into account as one like i think yes there's absolutely been great teachers along the way i think getting a little metaphysical here but i think the universe sent you. The teachers features that you need in these places in your life just has to be open and aware you know and and i can look back. I mean the first major influence. I was a high school teacher. Our speech in debate coach larry england mccallum county high school. He demanded the best of you. He demanded and did you work <hes> and he always said look winning is a byproduct of being at your best and he said here's here's the deal. We're all from a farming community in western kentucky. There's nothing wrong with being a farmer with being a carpenter would be with as long as you choose that as long as that's what you wanna do with your life but don't let think just because of the background you're from anything's possible and my group of friends that we're in that group with me are highly successful. "And I wanted to make sure that you guys heard the way I started the tour and the way I started the tour in Murray Kentucky was with the tremendous young player for the Murray state racers job rant. If you guys haven't heard of this young man, you will he's going to be the second or third pick in the NBA draft. His athleticism is jaw-dropping his unselfishness as a player is tremendous and very rarely is he not the best player on every floor. He steps on. So how does it young man with that kind of ability and up in Murray Kentucky? So we went there and we took him to the park. This was selection Sunday. This was an hour before. Four Murray state learned it's NC double A tournament fate. And he was kind enough to give us a little bit of time at a nearby park. Right there off campus. And I wanted you guys. That's one reason we have the Marty Smith's America podcast is because when we go do these interviews and only the teeny little snippet make it to television. There's so much more interesting commentary there. So you're going to hear a lot of that in this podcast, not just Jaama rant. But also from John Calipari the head coach at the university of Kentucky, but we're gonna start with Joe I want you guys to hear his path and what he hopes to be his future. Does it guy of your talent end up in Murray Kentucky at Murray state university detail that path for me I start off with a lot of hard work coming up in high school. I was I fell under the radar home. I guess was a little overload Dan got invited to China Parsons camp. One of the coaches emerge aims came pizzas. Head in the bag job. I was planning on three. And he just started asking questions about me, and they stay I ended up playing one of my teammates Tevin Brown in a game. And that's what I got Murray. And they offered me a scholarship in the parking lot. So I I read where father I know he had a tremendous has had a tremendous impact on your life. I read where he told you once don't go where you think you should be go where they want you. Why was Murray right? Then they just laid out the red carpet as soon as I stepped foot in American Turkey on. Really just made me felt like this was home. I'm a big family person. And they just Romy and the treating me life family says they want and I felt like they just made it. They wanted me rather than where I wanted to go out to to pick the school. That wanted me what your personality describe your personality for me? I really I say laid back type guy, I can tell. I don't do too much really just standard. Joe? So other than that really case, they when you're growing up in South Carolina, and you're putting in work in the backyard by yourself in the dark where nobody else is watching what are the dreams. What are you? Dreaming about in that backyard really to just get to the biggest level. But I can obviously started here. Finally, got basketball dream, come true. And now chasing today. NBA? You're definitely chasing to the NBA. What's this year? Been like, how do you describe because I'm gonna be honest with you man, straight up on a six months ago. Never heard you name. It didn't take long for me to hear your name. What's this been like how has your life progressed in transition any volved over the season? Oh. Where from? Like, you said nobody knowing me to now one of the biggest players in college basketball. So really? I really can't do too much now. What's it like to go out and public shots? Man..

"And right now at halftime, his Murray state racers are trailing the Florida state Seminoles fifty to thirty four John has eighteen nobody else on his team's doing anything at all. Are you caught up in JAMA rant wave? Listen. Can't shortchange the young man he is a talent. But when you carry a team as far as job ran has so far at some point when you run into a complete team a win one man show can't win at all. I mean, John it's five for five on three pointers the rest of his teammates. They are over three John marinas six as well. From the field the rest of his teammates are six of eighteen from the field. So if if John is in doing something, nobody twenty anything, and that's you know, they reason why they're trailing afford to say symbols by sixteen points at halftime. So you might want to if you're not watching the game you might want to check it out. Now, they get the last little bit of John Mirant because unless he really becomes superman and goes off in the second half, the mercy racer seasonal becoming to an end in another twenty minutes, or so so, you know, like being here in Cleveland, obviously the Cavaliers are in the in the. The the lottery hunt for the top pick. Right. They have believes the third worst record right now. They've kind of been right around there with with the Suns lately. And we talk about it all the time. You know, it's almost a foregone conclusion in Cleveland, people feel like zion's going to go to the Knicks. There'll be a frozen envelope. Some more happen in Zainal end up with the Knicks. So we we've been talking about who's the second best player for the longest is been RJ Barrett. Well, now, everybody's brand new fresh out the rapper, right. Everybody's brand new and they all go now RJ, it's not that good. He's not better than John Hayden. Hayden Hayden, which I don't understand late last night RJ Barrett. I believe he scored twenty six and a half, fourteen rebounds. I believe you know, fourteen to sixteen rebounds. I can't remember forgive me. If I'm in an accurate what he added double dome. Really really good game. Both players had over twenty points in the game. I mean, why why are people going to sit here? And hey here you're talking about the whole the Cavs. And unfortunately. You've seen a lot of basketball. Lot basketball with Iran has been there. Cleveland? Which player who is better suited for the Cavs RJ, or John I think it would be RJ Barrett. So Collins sections the point guard, you know, rookie out of Alabama started off slow, but he he has been bowling lately. You didn't score. I think he had twenty. He had a nice streak going on where he scored over a twenty three points for like eight eight seven eight consecutive games. He added rolling, and he's really really been playing. Well, if you end up with John Moran, you can make it work in the back court with them together. But then you're back court is really really small. Yes. If I'm the Cavaliers yo I want RJ because then you're starting lineup is big you'll have a guy in Collin. That's kinda short. He's about six three. I'm a little taller than him. But you know, he's not not, you know, real little, and then you would have RJ Barrett in Jedi Eisman on your wings in both those guys are six seven with length. And then you have you know, Kevin love there. And you can who cares if his Larry Nance or Tristan Thompson, whoever you actually have a pretty good team at that point. And as I was kinda arguing this on my show yesterday in Cleveland people calling and saying like, no RJ bear doesn't make his teammates better. John moran. Does and at first I couldn't argue that because he had a triple double in the opening round. I was like, okay. I I haven't really seen enough of them. You know, because I don't watch a lot Ohio valley basketball believe it or not even on from Ohio. So I didn't argue it. Now, let's see how much this is not me tearing down. John Moran is just me. You know, kind of giving a rebuttal to the argument he has eighteen points. And you're looking at what is it? Eight from one guy none from the center six from another two from it doesn't look like he's making his teammates better today. Now, maybe Florida state's just better. I actually think that's the situation. But the argument of John makes his teammates better and RJ doesn't. I don't think that's a question. When people say such and such a player makes. Their teammates better. What do they mean by that? What what is making their teammates better? Meet. I don't know. I think they mean like they inspire them. You know, also believe they mean if your point guard, and you can pass well, you're going to set up guys and put them in better situations. Right. Because I'll say this again just bringing it back to Cleveland Baker Mayfield definitely made his teammates better. I mean, you just saw like the whole everything changed when Baker Mayfield walked up out there. And I think that was more of a confidence thing because the Browns have been so bad for so long. I'm not sure anybody really believed in themselves until Baker stepped out of there. So I think that was the way that you know, Baker didn't make the team his teammates better. But in basketball, I mean, I guess you can inspire your teammates. But if you're a facilitator, I think that's what they're talking about. But listen RJ beer can can pass to is averaging about four and a half assists. So he can pass the rocky can score. He can. Rebound. He can do it. All people make it sound like ours barracks. It's not as good evidently in Cleveland, anyway, Cleveland, listen. As bad as things have been for those sports franchises, you know with LeBron's not running out of town and going elsewhere. They're going to nip the fan base as you would you would know better than me you're going to nitpick over and over again because they wanna ahead a best player imaginable. Like you loot it to emit RJ is better suited for the Cavaliers? Then what Jacob provide right now. Right, right. Listen, if it if the ping pong balls bounce the wrong way in the Cavaliers end up with the third pick, and it's chalk as far Zion and Barrett going one and to listen, I think everybody in Cleveland, including myself would be happy to add John Moran. Because I do think he's going to be a very good player. It's going to be cold. He's going to be cold in the NBA. He is has come in. And John is going to be given a lot of players some work. He's going to give them a lot of work. He's gonna get buckets. And the fact that he averaged over. Genesis game during the regular season. He's going to be out of business and get some guys to business, especially the wide open way that the NBA is played right now. You know? So I think he will he'll be great. And then he'll be really good in the NBA. But I just to me. And then somebody brought up that that John Moran might be better than Zion. Williamson and I was like yo like pump the brakes, you know, that stuff is not legal in Ohio. You see me right now. And if I I mean, I'm scratching my ball dome over that. I don't have any here on his ball. Oh better than Zion. People were saying I heard people saying that tweeting Twitter's crazy anyway, but I actually people talking about maybe John Moran should be drafted number one. I couldn't believe it. Could not believe it. It totally totally blew me away. Well, listen, John Moran. He's the star of today. But tomorrow all eyes will be on Zaire Williamson. Aren't they always right where do takes on UCF? So we've had some legendary dunks. We've seen some legendary dunks from the freshmen, but can he put the seven six taco fall on a poster we'll talk about that when we return to golden Mike, Wales bigger heard on ESPN radio and the ESPN app..

"Gel. That's what the rest of the liner was supposed to say. I don't know what happened there. Eight five five two one two four CBS onsides offsides. Coming up in about fifteen minutes number one seeds and the NC double A tournament. So far. Duke was not incredibly sharp up against North Dakota state in the first half ended up meeting nothing as Duke does what do does Gonzaga took care of business against Fairleigh Dickinson Virginia, how about Virginia. They were down at one point by twelve. I saw in the first half. I think breakfast for half that was six. But then everyone think oh here we go again with Virginia after listen to you NBC a year ago. Can you imagine if they would've lost that game ended up not happening? You knew they were going to pull away in the second half. When they got the lead down to six right before the end of the first half UNC, and I own a I own how to lead a halftime. They were red hot from three but eventually north. Carolina does prevail. Who'd be the first one seat to go down. Duke UCF. You'll have Gonzaga and Baylor you'll have Virginia and Oklahoma. I was impressed. But Oklahoma, they blew out all mess, North Carolina and Washington Washington. I was impressed by them did not love them in the Pac twelve championship game. How could you? I don't see any of those teams though falling down in round number two. So if they advance the Sweet Sixteen Duke will have the possibility of playing either liberty liberty liberty liberty or the tech. Gonzaga. They do beat Baylor will play either. Murray state or Florida state. If UNC does beat Washington the play either Auburn or Kansas, and if Virginia beats Oklahoma, they'll play either the ducks are UC Irvine. So. Right now, if I take a glance at it. I would say, yeah. Those teams will punched around to and also the Sweet Sixteen, but you never know. That's what makes the NC double A tournament so far. So really so far this tournament to me is all been about Zion. It's been about John Mirant. If I had a few upsets, you had the fun. Storyline of Wofford, and we'll see what they could do. Coming up later today against Kentucky. Eight five five two two four CBS our next stop is in Georgia. We talked to read next up that Gelb on CBS sports radio read. Good morning. Thank you for calling is always how are you? All right, man. Thanks for taking my call, man. No problem. Masback watches Duke game tonight, man, it will seem like they wanting gauge John you will you so really took control of the ballgame. Remind me of nineteen eighty eight with dead and mad at how one player to put a team on his back. I know RJ bear had like one of his. But during the game is paused me number because it looked like he will force and a lot of shots when you watch. He's the play within the Florida game. While this whole deep is the offense. I think I'd never say never seen nothing like this at this level. But you win they're here now moment in Madison. That's a great great great show of talented. This your man is doing it. Lucky doing it with ease and lucky holding back of coke coach K holding him back twelve for fifteen from the field, man. I don't I don't think they're really holding anything back. Maybe you know, you could say that they weren't as up for the game because it's a one sixteen and I know we'll play much more attention to the won sixteen games. Because of what happened the year ago? It was what a four point game at half time. They ended up with it eighty five to sixty two this team. I don't think they get really tested by UCF. They'll be well, prepared and. Coach K will not take UCF lightly because of the respect for one of his former players at assistance in Johnny Dawkins, as we all know the importance of dock ins to Shatskikh in his earlier years at Duke. So there's a mutual respect there. It's gonna be really for Duke when this team gets tested. How are these youngsters going to respond and appreciate the phone call? Right. How will these youngsters respond? When you're in the final five four three minutes of the game. And it's close and this team has not lost a lot this year when they have Cam when they have Barrett, and when they have Zaim Williamson on the court, they haven't lost the whole bunch this year when they have that that group but most of their loss. It's because one of those guys were missing and someone that's underrated for this team. And you need to keep an eye on it. He had a very good ACC tournament. Provide a lot in the offensive end. And also the defensive end that's trae Jones. He was spectacular the freshman that no one really talks about he wasn't that great the other night against the state. But who cares? He was spectacular and the ACC in SCC tournament. So with Duke. Zayn williamson. He makes you wanna watch the game. Even when it's a blob, and they could do design instant Cam all they want. You can even when you're not physically engaged with the games out of hand. I was looking at my phone Dr one play, and you could hear what the way that they had the microphone setup. I was looking down on my phone, and you heard someone dunked the basketball and you heard out powerful the dunk was Zion. Just dunk the ball you look up eventually and you see the replay you go. My goodness gracious. What he does on the basketball court is extremely special and really that's why for this tournament. As far as he goes as long as he goes, the better. It's the better. It's better part for the sport. Because you don't have too many players. You look at the sense. He double A tournament's say. Wow. I really want to see this this respect to the other schools. They don't have other players. I'm talking about star power. I'm talking about relevance. I'm talking about the everybody knows everybody knows. I'm Williamson two players in this tournament. That you will go out of your way to watch the games because of those two players and Zion Williamson with Duke, I don't care if they put the sixteenth seed or another one seat at the meet up in the championship game. Whenever Duke is playing in this tournament. You will watch them because of how great and our special we think this can be and the other one's job rant, which if you listened to the show we've been talking about John ran for two and a half three months. John moran. The longer. He goes to Murray state also the better for the NC double A tournament. Those are the two players that when you watch you go they clearly take over the game. And not only do they take over the game. You know, they're gonna go extremely early maybe one and two back to back in the NBA draft. Sure. There are other players are other kids that are lethal from three. You saw some of it with Belmont. You saw some of it from Wofford and those are special stories as well, however, though in terms of appeal in terms of highlights in terms of dunks. And in terms of overall excitement, I don't know how you have two more exciting players this year and the NC double A tournament, the Zion Williamson and John Moran. And that's why when Duke plays UCF later today. I don't think they need me to root for them. And it's a likable Duke team. I wanna see Duke win. Murray state place, Florida state, even though I picked Florida state to beat them in my bracket. I wanna see Murray state win. Because if you could get another week at a rant in college and other week of that story another week of watching imply, you don't know how far that could go you don't because the Murray state punches through to the Sweet Sixteen if they could be Florida state. Plan with no pressure all the pressure beyond Gonzaga. All the pressure would be onions aga-, by the way, real quick. They'll give you my bracket. I'll give you my Sweet Sixteen was into the elite into the final four in the championship game. I Duke vortex. Belmont Michigan state in the east Belmont out. I Gonzaga Florida state Texas Tech Michigan in the western Sweet Sixteen all still imply in the south also imply at Virginia at the ducks Nova and Tennessee and the midwest UNC, Auburn, Iowa State, Kentucky, Iowa stayed out. So lost to Sweet Sixteen teams in the league. Eight I Duke Michigan state Duke going to final four Gonzaga, Texas Tech, Texas, Tech, go into the final four at Virginia and Tennessee and the elite eight Virginia going into the final four and that UNC Kentucky Kentucky going into the final four UVA and Kentucky meet up on the right side of the bracket. Kentucky going to the championship game and Duke Texas Tech Duke going into the title game Duke, beats Kentucky seventy one to sixty two. So that was my bracket. Some people will say, oh, interesting fun bracket. When you pick Murray state when? You took a chance on a Belmont. When you when you picked UC Irvine when you pick the ducks. Now's the northeastern that didn't work. Epoch senior hall that didn't work either. And then some people will say enough with the bracket talk. I don't care about your bracket. Just throw it in the paper shredder. It is what it is just in shackles. Good morning, Justin. How are you? You gotta turn the microphone on a hit the button. It was strange technical disaster out start right on key and messing up the liner shackle. Can't even turn his mic on turbine by Connor. I'm looking at my bracket. What do you want from me? Oh, did you the bracket? I did with about. Guy. Baseball guy. Yeah. I'll I'll I'll really get into it. Right after the Super Bowl. Okay. I'll I'll start scouting. Yeah. Check out the conference standings. Everything's going on. I mean, if they're really intriguing game going on in December January I'll try and watch then. But it's it's not appointment television for me. So yeah, I filled out a bracket maybe about sixteen minutes before the first game. Probably win the prep. You do into your bracket. The better. I've learned. Yeah. Don't like to think about it. Too much. Now, you have the bracket in front of you. Yeah. It's on my phone. All right. Give me your elite eight who have in the top left the east Duke. Michigan state. Okay, Gonzaga, Michigan. Okay. So you go one twos. And then the right side Virginia Tennessee now the one to North Carolina and Houston Houston. Kelvin Sampson's one. I heck will Kelvin Sampson this year at again, they're playing my temple Alyce threw his tie, and he got technical. And I it was in the second row may have a few. Beers. And I started screaming at Kelvin Sampson to go pick up his tie. So how do you respond to you? He definitely hear me. I'm allowed person at the end of the game. There was a charge and it went against his team. And I thought he fainted he just fell on the floor though. So your final four is what what is your final four consists of we have Michigan state, Gonzaga. Wow. You'd pick Dookie is going down UNC and Tennessee. Okay. And your championship. I have is was boys against North Carolina and Michigan state winded. Okay. So we'll put different I like that you take a chance of the bracket. Okay. So I like that. All right. We'll come back. We'll do a little onsides offsides. Five topics in the sports world five questions. You'll see what side I'd take on the onsides. Or will? I be offsides with the question before. I here is a man that does a little bit of a double debt talk about eating food with the Chick-fil-A sauces. We're talking. He does basketball. He does also some baseball. And you know, what you also pays attention to football hockey. And he tells you everything.

"Into the fans. Nine. Sixty six. Hey, Sal licata back on the fan two. Oh, six Saturday morning. We're going to six AM. And plenty to discuss e heard us talk about the nets and their big win here to enroll pedantic, but more about LeBron and the Lakers not getting back to the postseason getting in to the postseason this year. Lebron it breaks a streak of thirteen straight seasons. His teams playing in the postseason. How about the NCWA tournament? You know, look, I filled out a bracket, I'm not a huge college hoops guy. I like the Ivy league because I do the Columbia games. So I would get into that. And see whatever Ivy league team gets into tournament for them to win a game. Yeah. Obviously losing in the first round this year. But a bracket you get into what you follow. It not really to me much going on in the first round. So for you have a few upsets, but were the upsets really that shocking. Liberty over Mississippi State. I think that's a legit upset where people were not surprised. Liberty wins their first game in their history Murray state, a twelve over five more people, I would think most people pick MAURICE day. No, no expert here. But. How could you not pick MAURICE say Marquette hasn't been that good and the big east overall is down. So I don't think that that was a shocking upset, and we'll get the job Moran. The second even Oregon over Wisconsin. Again, twelve beating a five is that that shocking the way organs been playing down the stretch wasn't to me. Maybe they was counting pedigree big ten basketball. All right. But that wasn't a shocker now. I picked Kansas state to be UC Irvine because everybody else was big in UC Irvine as a thirteen seed, but regardless of what I picked or not I think the majority of people were on UC Irvine. So here's another upset. I mean, I'm giving you a couple of twelve year and a thirteen and for the most part outside of liberty beating Mississippi State. I don't think that those are shocking upsets you could throw in Ohio State eleven seed, Ohio State beating Iowa State. Maybe that's a big upset too. But outside of that really not much happening. As far as shocking upsets or big time stories now talked about John Moran. That's a big time story. Here's performance was certainly. I opening for a nation who maybe is not familiar with John Moran. And now, I'm not pretending to have watched every Murray state game. I've seen some highlights. John ran you could see his athleticism. I think if you sit and watch him for full game, though, at least to me the thing that jumped out was his court vision. People talk about the comparisons to Westbrook, and I get that because of the athletes the ability to attack the rim. Russell Westbrook to me does not have the court vision that John Moran has. And I am torn and we've all seen Zaylon, right? I mean, you can't go two minutes without seeing his eye on Williamson highlight do always plays on national TV. Anyway. So you watch Zion. He's a beast. So for me, the one thing job is his court vision, obviously is ability to score, but his court vision and the one thing with Zeile Williamson his passion for the game his desire that he plays the game within his words. I go in to kill every game. And boy. Does he ever do that? And that's something that to me. A clips is talent even. I get that you wanna have talent. But we've seen talented guys fail. Why? Because of the inside. Maybe because of the makeup. Between the years, the heart all those different things, those things could be huge factors as well. That is why I love I on Williamson because he's not only physically gifted basketball player, and he'll maybe I'll have issues not going to dominate the next level. Look, I don't think he's going to be LeBron James like dominance. But maybe you will dominate the next level the way he has the college game. But you know, that the one thing that's not going to go away. Is that passion for the game? Plus, you look at a guy his size is ability dribble. The basketball his body control. I mean, he plays like a point guard out there. And he's a. Break house. So yes, you love his athleticism. Yes, you love his physical stature. There are a lot of things I love about Zion. But for me, it's the passion that he plays the game with and I can't decide which player I want more on the Knicks. And I'll tell you a quick note on the Knicks. It's more about next year. We know that but to look at the standings and to see this team at fourteen wins is an absolute embarrassment and disgusting, and it is sad to what was once a great team that played with such heart and grit and played hard night in and night out the game the right way with defense and rebounding respected each possession to see what has happened the last twenty years in particular this year where they have fourteen wins. And they've been an embarrassment in other ways as well. Obviously. And then you talk about even missing with the draft picks. Why do you trust mills and Perry? Kevin Knox has been a disaster. Do I have to see Donovan Mitchell coming here and light up the garden again for the Utah Jazz. How come now, maybe maybe we all didn't love Donovan Mitchell, but it's not our job. So it's the Knicks job too. Where was mills on that one? Taking nil Akina over Donovan Mitchell ago could've changed the franchise. Dan. Can't whose father worked for the Mets seats of met fan. He loves the New York area. I mean Donovan Mitchell would have been the perfect pick for the New York. Knicks. I get other teams made the mistake too. But that's the difference of a winning franchise and not you gotta make those picks and the Knicks take Frank meal. Akina they fire full Jackson a week later and Milligan has done nothing in two years. Or three two years, right? Who knows at this point with the next? They all blend together. Fourteen wins this season. Knox has been a disappointment. What is he going to develop into something? You're not ready to give up on the guy after one year, but you'd like to see more signs than what Kevin Knox's showed. And the one thing. I don't like about it. And it plays back to the point is the knock on Knox has been what his motor. That's a big issue. You have to worry about that. With john. You already in you of about had it with Kevin Knox. But maybe if the Knicks could somehow we'll be disastrous if they get the number three pig. I don't wanna hear about RJ baron. I haven't seen enough from Barrett to where I'd feel comfortable, especially when you talk about the drop off from either Zion or John Moran. That's a big drop off for the Knicks. For anybody. As far as I'm concerned. I know people love Barrett. I'm not I'm not taking a chance on Barrett. I want one or two and I'll live with either one of those players and be thrilled. With even one of those players is Lana who I would take Nevada number one big. I'm torn. The way the game is played today in the NBA. You would think you'd want John Moran? Right. He's that perimeter player. He can he's got the great court vision. He can attack the rim. He could score. I know he doesn't have the great outside shot. But you hope that will come but still a point guard back in facilitate a high octane offense. That's what John Mirant is that something the Knicks haven't had years. I mean, maybe ever I mean the lesson. The next had a point guard that was any good as far as I'm concerned with Derek Harper. Now, you're going back a long ways. But that's the guy not more berry. He wasn't. He's not that guy to me. The other thing of note from the tournament. And again, we'll take your calls on all things tournament. If you like eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we'll get to your calls them a little bit. Lebron Russell makes draft. All that stuff was the Tom Izzo stuff. Michigan state coach if you're not familiar with it was yelling at one of his players for lack of hustle, which initially when I first saw the story. I didn't see it live. I I saw the story. I was on the side of oh my goodness. What a coach can yell at the players anymore. I was in agreement with Charles Charles Barkley saying people need to relax. Everybody's gone soft. We all know society has gone soft. And there's nothing we can do really to change at this point. It's going in the wrong direction quickly. So I'm in the camp of you could yell at the player if you want you got to coach him. I mean, what are we turn into here? Then I watched the video, and I do think it was a little over the top from Izzo not the initial scolding of the player. But when they came back to the bench and is. Oh is still angry and lead beyond control to where he gets out of his chair and gets in the players face again where you have players holding is oh back and then players saying after the game that maybe they thought they could get through to their teammate more. So than the coach I do think that was a little bit of an issue. I think that was a little much from Izzo. I don't look I'm not soft. I haven't gone soft here. I love guys coaches that could yellow players now when I was a player in Louis, I didn't want to be yelled at I would hate that. But certain players respond better me, I would never respond. But that's the coach has to understand what player is going to respond to that type of behavior. And I don't mind having a code yellow guys get on them when they do something wrong. But I do think in Izzo situation. He went a little bit too far to where that's borderline. Hey, take it easy. Eight seven seven. I mean, it is ultimately you're talking about a college kid pro. He's not being paid to play to college kid. Take it easy. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six your calls on the other side all things NC double A tournament here or you want to get to the nets Lakers. Knicks whatever it is that you feel like talking about and we'll do baseball way too. But right now your calls on the other side eight seven seven three three seven.

"Guessing. Then he keeps going after this this this. I'll tell you what I believe will. Thank you. Great stuff is unbelievable. Who's that? No. How about chamois ranch? I told you. Oh, yes. Job. Tell me to Murray state Jones. Murray, state and Moran. Put on an absolute show. I player in seven years in the NCAA tournament to give you a triple double as he had what fifteen point sixteen assistant, eleven rebounds. I think was his finishing line Morand yesterday for Murray state. He's remarkable. And he's an unbelievable talent with Russell Westbrook type of athleticism, probably not as athletic. I mean, Westbrook's just an absolutely free connects pretty close already is is pretty close ties. And and this is what for him, you know, and for that Murray state team the need a win their conference tournament to get into the NC double A tournament. He's cemented himself right now in a league in the NBA where it's a guard oriented league L, maybe he's putting himself TASR in play with this type of performance, and we'll see what he does next against Florida state. What he did in the regular season the average twenty and ten in the regular season twenty plus. Points ten plus assists per game. Maybe he's putting myself in the conversation be the number one overall pick over Zion. I mean, I I'll tell you what if that happens. That'd be really something to see that could happen. This kid is tremendous casual basketball fans are casual sports fans now now saw him on a grant stage and you're going to get to see him again. He is unbelievable. I now, unfortunately for me, I had no sanitation sixteen eleven I'm sorry. Seventeen sixteen. I had Marquette advancing and the Meuse was like not Murray state than when we're giving our pictures today. I was wrong you, right? But I'll tell you what this kid's joy to watch. You know, what most you know, this to people wanna play with him because he's so unselfish. Aw. His his vision is unbelievable. Freaky? Good sixteen. He wants to share the rock, dude. Here's so on selfish. Yes. It all really. This is not a case of a guy taken thirty five shots in the game. This is a guy that has the great concept and understanding of what it means to be a team player and raise the level of the guys around him, and they all play off of a task. And here's the the one that you say about this the passion, you can feel it through the TV set for both players Williamson and Miranda. And I'm not saying other guys are dispassionate in college basketball. But the drive for those two players you felt it yesterday. Watch a Murray state we've seen it all season long Zion Williamson TASR, and that makes you that makes you drawn to a player as well. The will and the youth the energy the excitement out on the core point of basketball. You're right now all those attitudes. I'll add one more exuberance. I mean, he brings that to listen. And the thing is like. He just so simple. Like like, you said his vision of where he plays he draws a defense, and that has a quickest hands on his eyes. And he moves the ball. And they just scorn after score score. They couldn't stop now. One more Marquette was trying to do Zoll. Whatever do whatever you wanna do him. It don't matter. This kid is just a baller beyond ball. I mean, I was happy for him that he was able to be on that big stage like that. Okay. And people get to see him and spotlight was on him. No matter what you did to them defensively. Preston doubled shadow that didn't matter. The kid was going to score points one way or another. And you know, what they'll straws listen to this response talking about his big day yesterday after Murray state's victory over Marquette cut for Pete. This obviously I can't get a without making the shots. And I just feel like I have great players around me. And they made me a little better. I remember seeing that on. I don't know if he's that set some TV and up on TV they interviewed him right there. The presser because he said the same thing they said to him. I can't remember the young lady who interviewed him. There are so many different reports out on camera. But anyway, it was the question of like what what's one of these stats? Are you most depressed what about yourself? And that's what he said sixteen credits. His teammates around him, which is which is fantastic, which is great selfish guy that gets it anymore on his show. These of that on this show unselfishness, Mike where are we with the bracket challenge after day one? So none of us are in first place. There's seven people are tied in first they got fifteen out of sixteen Iraq. But as far as the old. Okay. Sorry. But as far as the group goes, none of us laws. Anything terrible, moose and twenty-seventh. With the best at thirteen out of six leaned. You can still get a high possible score of what are you talking so fast? So slow down. What you're saying fifteen I've got four guys left to go. And I'm doing the mental math. We have seventy seconds. And I'm not the one that close out the hour on us Taza myself each at seventy first place at twelve out of sixteen. And then Pete Andrew at one twenty five. Five. Play one hundred twenty fifth each with eleven correct. Okay. Brent pivotal. So is in first place. There you go. Very nice. Congrats Brent your is one of seven David Burns Gary firms fifteen out of sixteen impressed about this guy. Michael. There's no less named Mike is really sting. You like Joel like TASR prince? That is sixteen. I think about the one I lost instead of the fifteen I one I would be thinking about the how it used to be perfect in a day. Yeah. I've done that the pool. Mike Alexander urine. I also sells Mike Maryland, Terry Szymanski, right? As says, let's make it more about the team and less about I tasked references about jerseys in eighth. I know. Wow..

"To the just a heartbreaking heartbreaking laws. Absolutely heartbreaking loss for Belmont. I tell you let me take it through because I thought their analysis. The end of the game was awful. Let me just take it through here. Number one. They never made the point Belmont was down one point. They ran it. They ran their set. They took to the game all the way down and made it a one possession game, which is a risky game. Except one thing if you're going to do that you get the ball in the hands of your star who's got thirty five points long before you get that deep in the game. Instead, they tried to make an outrageous cut to him and hit him with a pass from on a back door cut with two and a half seconds left. And throw the ball completely threw the lane. The odds are getting through the lane that way are impossible. So they made it impossible play. You've got a long before you make that a one one. Possession game. You've got to make sure you get the ball winless hands. He's got thirty five points in the game. Number two. Keep your time out keep your time out. Don't use your time out. There have your team understand and they should be well coached enough. What to do if it's a making? It's three. Here's what we're doing. If it's off the rim. Here's what we're doing. Throw the ball ahead and call timeout. You'll still have a second. Plus from two point five to get a shot off. That's enough time to get a shot off and get a shot in the front court in the back. What you have no chance with the ball. So the usual last time out means it's a heave. What can you do? You're going to throw your what did you get you got window making a sixty foot eve? That's not how you play that you use your time out after the maker after the rebound throw it into the front court and call timeout. Really I felt very bad for Belmont. Listen, Maryland played a good game. It was a highly played game. Belmont terrific team. They lose a heartbreaker by two winless game. Thirty five points and eleven rebounds. I mean, that's a wonderful game for the kid thirty five points and eleven rebounds in the game. And frankly, they're going to be sick the way the last forty seconds of that game win because Belmont could easily won that game. They didn't. And listen tournament. Is you lose a two point game is a one point game. You know, you go home. Listen they played as well. As Maryland today was the one point game. You could do a good team. So they lose a two point heartbreaker Kansas is up in the second half on north eastern. Michigan state won by eleven and right now Marquette trails by eight but being down eating this game. It was like being down tuna normal game because they come back and forth at each other. Crazy runs. Three minutes left. I have thirty six thirty. Murray state leads Murray state is getting the ball inside on Duke. I mean on Marquette too much. Get into good shots. Marquette's defense is hurting them really hurting them. Marantz Scott, seven points and seven assists and four rebounds. He's only one for three from the floor. How it has sixteen points keeping Marquette in the game. But Marquette's defense has got to get better in this game. If they're gonna come back and win this game against Murray because Murray is getting too much of what they want this shooting fifty percent from the floor that shooting seventy percent from three. Marquette's lucky? They're still in the game. They. Close close goes to Howard. Down seven and Murray. Shut the light shut shut the lights out. Marquette is only shooting thirty percent. Thirty percent from three. To shoot a lot better. There are very good Marquette's a brilliant three point shooting team. They just hit one to make it thirty seven thirty three. They gotta shoot a lot better from three. As you said Miran stone play the all around game. He has not scored a lot. Just turn the ball over on a bad pass. And here comes Marquette again. But. Marquette is really not played well so far offensively. But you're going to get a heck of a second half. They're really second-half Kansas is rolling away as you would expect and Belmont lost. They lost the heartbreaker they really did. I did not like the play. They ran. I if I'm them down one with a kid who scored thirty five points. I want to clear out. I wanna run at plenty of time to come up and get him the ball and get a clear out and make them play defense or double team or make him. Make them commit to get someone else. Open shot. Make them commit against that big star instead of China hit him with a pass down the lane. That's not the way you wanna play that. Really isn't. Made no sense to me. But you know, what they college kids. The pros. You know, sometimes you watch the pros and you shake your head when they don't execute baseline out of bounds or SOB. The bottom line is. They don't always execute as well. And win the had a heck of a game and heck of a performance by Belmont. They win their opener in the play in game. And they lose a heartbreaking two point decision. Tomorrow back after.

"To this point. We've got Abilene Christian beating Kentucky. We have seen the whole over walford. And we have Georgia state over Houston. All upsets is it your belief that any of those could actually happen. I would say you might as well just go and put money on those because if any of those hit you guys are going to be rich your need. The giants sponsor the show. So. Look, I think I don't know you say you had Wofford or seeing hall winning that game. We have Seton Hall. Seton Hall is winning that game. Yeah. Like, I think that's one that could realistically happen. I will say that while you know, me the supposed- expert isn't picking Georgia's state like I don't think it's inconceivable that they win that game. They they have no probably have the best player on the floor. They have a kid named DeMarcus Simmons who's going to play in the NBA at some point. He he actually he averaged eighteen a game this year and his numbers are actually down a little bit. So I don't know that I would be the guy to pick Abilene Christian over to Turkey. If that's where the darts are going. I do think you're right. Yeah. The the dogs are feeling it and might be by the way, we should tell everyone that you're biased can you? Tell everyone the name of your book. Please. Oh, yeah. No. I had a book about Kentucky basketball. You know, what I was gonna say to you was is that when you say nobody knows what they're doing. So I I said this on another radio interview this morning is there's a reason that they offer a billion dollars for a perfect bracket every year, and nobody wins it. So I think that as much as I'd like to say that the hours and days, I've spent in front of the TV and talking to coaches and talking to you know, is that it's all worthwhile. When I fill out the bracket. I don't know that throwing darts at a wall isn't just a better option than what I've been doing. Thank you very much. Would you like to be with us right now as we select a couple more games? Yes. Okay. I tell me what you think real quick just give me like fifteen seconds or less on Ohio State versus Iowa State. So I always state they got three or four pros on that team. They could legit make the Sweet Sixteen or elite. I wanna be surprised they could legit lose to Ohio State. And I would it be spread. Okay. So if you wouldn't be surprised by anything. This is a a pressure free throw that I'm about to make Ohio states the eleven I was states the six so rat is Ohio State Brown will be Iowa State. Here we go. We got read. Again, we got nothing but upset so Ohio State is going to defeat. I was day. But you don't think that's crazy. I don't think it's crazy. So state hit Ohio State. Yeah. We've got nothing. We've take four games so far. It's all upsets, I don't know why I'm hitting hitting all here on the board. There you go out to Vegas. It all read their. Let's you know. So no, I don't I don't think that's insane. At all. I mean, Ohio State plays in the big ten. They laid great teams all year. They've been good teams Iowa State again. These are the facts that are going to be meaningless when my bracket blows up, but they lost five out of their last six games in the regular season. They got hot in the last week. I don't think it's insane. At all that Ohio State would pull that upset. Okay. Let's do one more Jimmy ten seconds on Kansas versus northeastern. Kansas. I'll say this hits read I won't be surprised really was Kansas was a biz mole on the road this year. So they had a couple injuries. A couple of suspensions. You know, one guy's not playing, you know, guardian took some money and got caught by the FBI. And so they went like one in seven away from home in their last eight games. So it waiting their last eight games away from home. So it would not surprise me. If on a neutral court, they got upset I'd hear it goes, Kansas versus northeastern. Okay, Kansas is going to survive Kansas is going to win round one. So we do have our first favorite of the first round. And will be Kansas defeating northeastern very exciting stuff. I'm I'm glad that you're you're right in the middle here, though that you're you're becoming one of us us us. Every man college basketball fans were just like, yeah. I'd this could go either way. I'm glad you're saying that right now. Well, I remember a few years ago. First of all my bracket is always the worst one. And everyone's like, what are your picks? And I'm like, you don't really want my picks. But I remember, you know, I was talking with our buddy Colin cowherd three years ago. And he said do you get mad when everybody else that doesn't watch like me has a better bracket than you? And I said, you know, Colin, I'm a lot like Bill Belichick. I just focus on myself. I don't worry about the outside noise. What it does drive me a little bananas that all these all these men hours. I put loving the sport. And it's all for nothing come March. I wanna ask you this. This is a conversation that was happening here at the office about an hour ago. Which is the best college basketball team in the state of California this year. Oh, man. I feel like I had this conversation. It's obviously not USC. It's not. I'm trying to think, you know, I think it might be UCLA by down. And there's only there's just a letter listeners. All there's only two teams from the entire state of California in this bracket at its UC Irvine, it probably should have been without a major upset. It would have only been one. It's UC Irvine in Saint Mary's that's wild that's wild. I think Saint Mary's would probably went on a neutral court, but I'll tell you what Irvine is one if the dark skew towards Irvine that would not surprise me at all like, I know you said a minute ago. Nobody knows these head coaches follow, blah, all I'm saying is as cow is abysmal in the Pac twelve Russell Turner. Who's the head coach at UC Irvine? They could be they could do themselves a favor to give him a call, by the way, he coached at Stanford. He was in assistant with the Golden State Warriors. He knows the bay area that guy can coaches, you know, what off I don't know that he'd be a great interview for your show. You just want more entertaining. College basketball. You should have your. Your buddies over Cal get him a call. Hey, while we're on it. What are we doing here with with Pac twelve sports? What's what's what's happening right now? So as anti Pac twelve is anybody as everybody because I think the bottom line is we had the worst combined year ever since they've been recording numbers in wins and losses for Zona and UCLA in the same season. We gotta season where one's been bad. We've had a season where another has been bad. But we've never had a season where they're collectively as bad. And so what I always say is, you know, we would be talking about how bad the ACC was if Duke in North Carolina had historically their worst seasons combined ever the big twelve. Did it feel a sexy this year because Kansas wasn't good? And I just think look Arizona. They have the number one or three class coming in. They're going to get right? But if errors Zona was just what they've been in UCLA was just what they've been all of a sudden, you add two more top twenty five teams in you. Then potentially have five bitch the NCAA tournament. Nobody feels bad now with that said, I can't really speak for football, which is a total mess, but basketball, I think it's cyclical I think they'll be fine. I see that you said getting back to the brackets the Tennessee and Michigan state where the two teams that got screwed. Why why do you think that? So two different reasons. I think in general nobody really has a big gripe. But Mark, you know, for people who don't follow this stuff three hundred sixty five days a year in the past the committee has kind of made this big stink about we do wanna keep teams close to home because you know, we don't want these student athletes to travel, whatever buffalo, blah. I know where you stand on all that. But they always have given preferential treatment to the higher seeded teams. It's a very simple concept you bust your butt. You're awesome all year, you shouldn't have to play in somebody's backyard in so Tennessee could potentially in round to have to play Cincinnati in Columbus, Ohio, which is only about an hour from Cincinnati. I just think that's totally unfair for a team. That's done. You know, they they've been awesome. And it could come down to their basically playing a true road game in the NCAA tournament, you know, after six months of hard work. I just think that's kinda nonsense and then when Michigan state. You know, it's the deal of the committee considered them one of the quote unquote, best number two seeds. So then why are they lined up with the best number one seed, and do it makes absolutely no sense to me. Yeah. That's interesting. All right. Gimme gimme the dark horse that could make some noise who's wearing Cinderella. This year. Well, I'll tell you. I know I know you have a primarily NBA audience Murray state with John Mirant got to be a lottery pick that kid is unbelievable. He average twenty four games scoring led the nation in this. I think he is every bit the real deal. And if you told me he put his team on his back. I'll Steph curry wins to three games basically by himself. It wouldn't surprise me kid is just out of this world. I think whether you follow college basketball, whether you're following the darts. That's a kid to watch out for because he's

"I will say this. I think for going over getting a six seat as a gift because I'd much rather play Saint Mary's in Murray state, I much rather have that match at least Villanova gets to stay close to home to being in Hartford. I know obviously Marquette's in Hartford as well. But at least if you're going to get disrespected from a seed line standpoint, at least you draw the six eleven against Saint Mary's the five twelve against Murray state. So there is that for Villanova. And of course, you know, we'll see who they get in that Purdue Old Dominion game on that could be a pretty good one there, again, we'll talk about the south in a few minutes here. But what about some general overall thoughts here from a betting standpoint on the NCAA tournament? And they've got a few systems at angles here. Yeah. You know, I think these these are some systems angles that and make a lot of sense fading the trendy underdogs. This has been a really good one year after year. And I think this is one that people really want to pay attention to. I would argue this is probably the strongest angle that I'll talk about here backing favorite. That's receiving forty nine percent or less at the public bets. One sixteen eighty two ATS in two thousand five fifty eight point six percent wins. That's been a really consistent one believe last year that angle actually with down a little bit for last season alone. And that was one of the first years that it's lost. I think that long term this will continue to be a good ankle. Because you know, you you find these teams that that guy's latch onto on TV. They'll say all here's your upset special. That moves lines. It definitely does the public wants the bet that underdog game. You know, we've talked about this before I'm pretty sure, but. In the regular season. Public betters. Don't wanna bet the underdog. But when you get in his first game in March madness, a lot of public betters wanna take the underdog because they want to, you know, say, hey, I called this upset, you know, it's just kind of a price thing. So fading those trying to underdogs has made a lot of sense. I think this will continue to do. Well, because that favorite gets too cheaply priced. Yeah. I completely agree. I I think this is a fantastic angle. It's something that's very important to drive home, especially to because a lot of these Cinderella types of teams are teams that that your average. Joe public better hasn't played all year long doesn't even know what conference here and just all of a sudden happened to start paying attention to them not to say that it's a blind system that you wanna bet that. But you know, I kind of think of it in the context of suddenly Murray state and Marquette where Marquette's better team, you know, when when Steve huskies team is healthy and Marcus Howard is healthy. They're the better team. But everybody loves Mirant at Moore..

"One. He's still standing that. Chicago dot com York. Sad one thousand had one. Snippy snippy, snippy doing good. Actually, I think that Bernie. I don't know what they actually I do think they burn it. You know, they get in there. And they they cauterize. They come in with a laser the laser it up the vast difference Osterloh by by the vast difference. So you guys have your bracket done filled one out. I usually change it. I don't know if that's a good idea of LED one bracket. And the only thing that would force me to change. It is if there's injury Newsday late. Then I change it. Either of you take VCU I took VCU in the first game. But I didn't have them beating do a key injury. Don't they Marcus Evans? I was from me a York listening to him screaming on the floor. I'm doing sideline that game. Now got UCF. Yeah. I would take. Yeah. I mean, he's their best player. Think long think wrong Karm. You know, how good kids he's their best player. Now check with me in two days 'cause I will talk to coach roads and find out these playing he's he's good. He's very well. If he's screaming in agony. I mean, can you? Coach dusty Rhodes, it's is Muslim micro. I love the great Duff road. Why never him? Grappler. I feel like I'm very chalk. Hero add it with their nature. Boy, RIC flair. They used to have an issue. I'm very chalky in my final four to one two two ju collusion. Do you? Meghan state. Okay. I got a Florida state play in Michigan and mother elite eight game the truck you at NC Kentucky. I'm sorry. But you know, some teams just deserve to be trucking and Virginia Tennessee chalky while Bill says Vermont taking out Florida Vermont taking out Murray state actually, give Vermont taking. And that'd beating Murray state Vermont in the Sweet Sixteen happen guys. Like that. They're very good. Like if you look at a lot of the metrics, they're really good. Kansas winning at all. I have Kansas going out in round two. Sorry Daniel their top three players are out. I have a movie offers playing great. That's one of those cases where I didn't think even deserve to be into tournament with injury zealous. Also as New Mexico state taken Auburn out round one. Oh, really? Yeah. I don't know if Auburn Auburn beaten, Kansas. Yeah. About Auburn running over the weekend. Man. I tell you. He might be as dirty as dirty can be Bruce Pearl can coach them basketball. Good Lord in heaven. Now, maybe. He's a rack cheats, everywhere you go. I mean, isn't he been busted every place? He's ever visited informing that was that's his deal calling him. But he's in trouble. He liked the NCAA. So the fire, but he can really coach men. He took a bottom. Feeder in that conference a couple of years ago now to win the SEC tournament like the guy can coach him all the credit in the world beat the pants off at Tennessee. Knows the ideology of basketball Carney has it. Did you watch Saint Louis? I did not that was a hell of Saint Louis. Pretty good. Everybody was saying the day of a short rotation. They're well coached they defend the heck outta they're not big physicist. Billions I still walked away from the weekend. I don't think they can score enough. I walked away from the weekend going, man dukes. Unbelievable. Like we've known that all year when they're healthy. All those guys. I robot the bounce fast. It was ridiculous. He looked like Steve Nash Michigan. Thirty foot bounce one handed that not like. It was literally look like magic or Stephen making that bounce pass. That's my second. Take away your Michigan state. Yeah. Mine too big takeaways from the weekend. Wor how could I think like dukes any better? But somehow, I think they're better. Right. Maybe I was giving them credit for watching them over the weekend. And then Michigan state impressed me that rally yesterday and caches Winston second-half really impressed me yesterday. They got hosed so two losses to Indiana screwed them. That's what it sounds. While they lost one still annoyed too. I have no problem with it. None. I think they can do is just as much damage. I think it's a disservice to dukes the best team in the country. I'm with you on that so district disservice to them, but I got Michigan state who's the worst three point shooting team in the country. Dukes one of them, not the close. They're very close there. Three thirty nine out of three fifty one. They're very close. Oh this morning. The thing that popped up said that they were there. After thirty nine out of three fifty one terrible, which is pretty bad. I mean, what do you think Michigan state's going to do? They're going to protect the mental and make you shoot from the perimeter. Everybody did that over the weekend, and they still want and and take away their fast break opportunities control break. Three teams tried to do that over the weekend in Duke still want. Three times. And that's what's so mazing. Everybody did what you just said. Pat, the lane crowd him put three bodies on him hit him bones. Still was the MVP was any still dominate when they get out and run when Jones runs and when RJ Barrett runs you talk about a guy with explosion for that size. When he gets he can separate from guys when they're out on the run their ridiculous. Zion is by far the best player in the country. I mean, there's gonna be a tough out I loved when he was doing the post game interview. And he said Allison Williams, look with all due respect to the people thought, I shouldn't come back title their opinion. These are my brothers. And I love Duke has got an attitude, man. I love. Are you ready goes killers killers kill by how we are? How is Tennessee with the wind going to get a one-seat? But Michigan state is it because it's so late in the day. We always talk about this the big ten's the last one. Champagne, we got the brackets. How does Tennessee on Sunday have a chance to get a one seed? But Michigan state doesn't how about UNC, Greensboro. They'd be Michigan three times UNC Greensboro in the field on there. And then once VCU loss that's gave the eight ten a second team gone zag lost that gave the WCTC a second team. They're out with Saint Mary's of made it or no they wouldn't have made it probably not. Yeah. Yeah. They're the one team that everybody thinks got jobs here a little bit. UNC, greensboro. I'll be honest. I don't know anything about him. So either do I just I heard it yesterday would capture cillizza road is also picking Cal Irvine. Yeah. On the name alone. Well, you know, I'm just a mascot bracket, which mascot would beat the other mascot go from there. What's the other one? Who they? Cal Irvine is. On my list here. I've gotta look. Cat of case wildcat wins. Always I'm edgy one bracket. Just on the mascots. That's a great idea. Just to see why not have some fun. I'm worried about merkin badgers who would win Ducker a badger badger would destroy DACA, of course, from limb to limb, and that's a toothless badger say if the badgers played the wolverines. That's too bad ass, Obama JAMA's, right? Gary green. Now, I'm tickled here. Oregon or twelve five. Have Oregon in the Sweet Sixteen. I liked the way they finished the year. There's another guy who can cook beaten. Randy Murko's, rainy mercantile should say whisk. Oh, then I got him getting crushed who's coach Altman? If they haven't won a national title that can coach cap on his broadcast on Friday says two of the great coaches. We'll see tomorrow Phil Martelli in Bob McKillop, and I have drinking my. Combined. Pretty great coach. He's team to a final four. We didn't. They they lost. He's never been. Yes, I'm positive. All right. Jamir Nelson, and they lost in the final. I thought they went. Nelson lost. He's not a he's not like, great coaches. If you're if you're talking to both good coaches, yes. For great coaching, no kill up. So they pulled all the division one coaches who's the most under appreciated coach in the country MacKillop MacKillop crates, and he's underappreciated immediately. Great, Dane Altman. I'm putting a great coach. Final four was he he was in two years. He wasn't fun. Win. They didn't win. For how many championships was Greg guard. One your Merck. Greg guard is not a great coach yet. He's been the two sweet sweet sixteens at his first two years, though. It's pretty good. I'll Boca coach Bo can coach that guy was something coach. I'll take that. Out of his mind absolutely out of ever. I mean modeling motto voice, pick pick, some games chant. Oh, man. Oh, man. Oh, let's go sparky games. Let's do it. Sobhi bracket challenge is everybody doing that? Why I don't wanna be? I don't want it to run down like. Is that what we have to do? We have to. Let me just read you one quick thing. All right. One thing. This is going back when Bob McKillop was at Davidson, he's still at Davidson area. Okay. This is how many wins. He's had twenty twenty nine twenty nine twenty seven sixteen eighteen twenty five twenty six twenty twenty four twenty seven twenty one twenty four. Mike francesa, some of it has got to do at the conference. Thank you. Good coach if the conference. Yes of cars, thank you. Can we look up his win totals? Let's go. I mean, you wanna to talk about let's get his those totals twenty nine thirty thirty one twenty nine. I'm very impressed. I mean to beat Michigan three times. Losses to Indiana are gonna come back and haunt you. I guess it's not in the field. Just two losses accused how Tennessee can make. But I haven't had the same losses. Just what happens on Thursday because Tuesday doesn't even count. I don't care what other teams make it and they become sacrificial lambs as they move forward. You're gonna have to beat whoever signed you damn schedule. That's it whoever's land in front of you. You're going to have to beat somebody. You've got to win foreigner. Oh, what a foreigner. Oh, get ya. Final four who's like the one sleeper that we're all talking about that's going to get thumped in the for you know, because that always happens to there's always a twelve five. I get it at three seat could lose a four goes out of opposite earlier Yale's sexual team going says LSU didn't you predict that upset earlier? I haven't made my bracket yet. But yes, I considering that. Yeah. So gale could be that team. Allison. You know that plays because she's got the coach has got a code came back over the weekend things about smart played over the weekend. Things happen either your so discombobulated as a program down there that the kids can't focus you go into the game. And you make big stinky's down, your pant leg or it brings the team together and gets them focused to the IMF degree. Now. All of a sudden you've got a very dangerous basketball team so ill see which one happens. Tell us you. I can't predict what it's going to be. I don't know. I don't know if this is going to sideline those guys and get them unfocused, or if it's going to bring the team together even more and to have them behind a common cause either way in the Sweet Sixteen they gotta face Michigan state in Michigan state is gonna come and crush. Michigan state's also got so much love right now that scares me because sometimes in the years where they have so much love in their one. Early. Yeah. Exactly. I've seen first round losses. My two three years ago. Uh-huh. Michigan state middle. Tennessee state. It'll Tennessee crap. Valentine's lashes. Faruk menashe. Denzel Valentine was also at the United Center on Friday got a big elation when they showed him..

"Hour reds last night. What on the road played the Padres and lost sixty to pay no attention to preseason exhibition. Baseball a final scores. They mean little here's what I I watched this game last night. I was flipping around. I was watching this watch little Murray state game last night. Joey Votto gotta hit last night. But you could tell bottles not statistically having a great spring. But you can tell by looking at what he's doing that Bado is playing with things he's playing with his worry. How he grips the bat. He's play with his swaying. He's playing with his time between pitches. He's I never really worry about Joey Votto in the spring. I know we got off to that clunker a start a couple of years ago. But I know what he's doing. He knows what he's doing more important. The other thing that struck me about that game last night Sonny gray Saudi great two innings to hits strikes out three. No walks burst outing of the spring. You could not ask for anything better from Sonny gray goes to goes to which means next outing. You hope he goes three which means next outing. You hope he goes four, which means you hope he's ready by opening day thought he play pitched well Amir Garrett threw the ball. Well, now Garrett was a little little wild with someone who's pitches or a couple that were up one of the dirt. But he throws an inning of scoreless. Hitless baseball thought he threw the ball very well and even for his rough spring as he's had Cody read through well last night in any two strikeouts. No walks by far his best outing of the spring. So even though the final score read six to the guys that most probably will be in the mix for a spot. On the twenty five man roster. I thought acquitted themselves well from pitching standpoint and Matt Kemp Matt camp. This is a guy I continue to sail be shocked if he's on the opening day roster. But danged if he doesn't have another to hit game he ever effortless. Swing on a double but easily beat out the beat the throw in the second base to for three for Matt Kemp last night guy sitting three thirty eight on the spring. So honestly, not bad not bad

"Radio. The player of the week is brought to you by Grainger, let's take a look at the one who got it done. And this week the player of the week brought to you by Grainger is John Miranda who plays for Murray state. I don't want to say he's a great kept secret anymore at this point. Because if you don't do John Miranda's you should by now. But at one point he was a great secret when he was not even getting looked at by Murray state. One of the assistant coaches wants to go get a hotdog or something at the food stand because he was hungry as a concession stand. Then he saw job Moran called the head. Coach Murray state said you gotta come down and see this kid, and they eventually did offer him and his stock is going in the right direction as many people now for most of the year with Zion number one. And then Barrett number two in the draft a lot of these mock drafts that I read now have John Mirant as the number two player expected to go in this summer's NBA draft. He's a sophomore six three bucks. Seventy five has comparisons. To Russell Westbrook. Over the weekend. And this is a game, that's typical form now. But I like to give a little attention here had twenty five points, fourteen assists, eight rebounds in a victory. One of two seventy over eastern Kentucky Murray state is twenty one and four their next game. And the next chance that you could see John Moran play is Thursday at eight pm eastern. So that's definitely going to be one of the stories for the NC double A tournament is John Mirant, and he is the player of the week. And that was brought to.

"One that omitted, but I wanna talk some college basketball. We're joined right now by a guard from Murray state he is a wooden award. Top twenty lists player, twenty points and six assists, five rebounds. Saturday's win for the season. He's averaging twenty four points, ten assists and five rebounds per game. He is looking to become the first player Tarik twenty points and Tennessee per game since the assist wasn't official NCWA stat Murray state is nineteen and four there tend to in conference play there at apps state on Thursday night. John Moran is my guest jot. So good to have you on. Program. How are you? I'm doing good. Good. Good. Listen. There are so many different places where we could start. But let me start right here. You are having one of the all time great season in college basketball history. You're being talked about as a high lottery pick your being compared to NBA greats. Your team is in first place in the conference. How is life for you right about now? Life is good receiving a lot of attention. Became one of the most talked about players in college basketball coming from being under the radar. So is good. Good. Good. And you've earned all that. You had a number highlight plays on Saturday, including that Tomahawk dunk at the end of the game. But earlier in the game, you did something that I'm not sure I've ever seen before you blocked a shot twice once with each hand. What do you remember about that play? Now, we was in press. Dolphins team would just trying to send the player Donald floor to a pass ahead. And I went to contenders shot and got peace with my left hand and finished it with my right? So. Like, I said that was something else. I don't think I've ever seen that before you know. And then there are the dunks, right? There are so many conic dunks in your career and Murray state, it's hard to pick just one. But there is that dunk against UT. Martin. Will you went over a six foot eight defender what's going through your head? When you see somebody looks take charge in a situation like that. And then you just go right over him. Oh, my look to finish the play. Like I did in that game. And Mizzou something that I was surprised about myself. I'm glad you said that because I was going to say is there ever a moment. I mean, the obviously you can do a lot of different things. Is there a moment? Oh, maybe where you can't believe what you just did. Or does everything seemed pretty normal and expected on. I actually I think that's probably one of the play that surprise surprise me jumping over to defend good. Because that that was crazy to me John ranch. Joining us now, the thing is it's not just about your athletic ability. It's also about your brain your head coach. Matt McMahon said, quote, he's a basketball genius. A once in a lifetime player and a quote like where does that basketball genius and your head for the game? Come from. They probably being around basketball on my life. And just watching a lot about who balling studying film is probably some things that help us. Spots. Pretty amazing. You're from Dalzell, South Carolina. What was like for you? And for those and I don't know what's dolls l like. Really small town. I say just me some of my family live live there. Once you probably turn off I roll you'll go right into something there. So it's really just almost a road. I say. That's what that's what we live. I mean, literally like it's just a road. And there's not much else is I have a lot of family. We all stay really on the same road. So really, that's probably. They really you probably go down the street or something then you still be in data. But once you can probably try to go downtown, you go straight into something got it. Now, you mentioned family your father t actually played with Ray Allen in high school and was a double double machine in college. The two of you worked out when you were growing up what were those sessions like in? What did you learn from him? I'm I learned a lot from him. He's really just taught me to basics on the fundamentals of the game. And do every work out. We do that. And also he had me jump on tires out. The every drill just helped me get more explosive in my feet faster. So. It was a really good workout. He pushed me hard, and it all paid off Yama and joining us it certainly did. Now you played for the Hornets a you team, which also included John Williamson. But as you pointed out, the very start the interview, you're not getting a lot of recruiting interest from schools. What was that like for you? Did you feel like they were overlooking you and your potential? I felt like I was overlook a lot. I used to question myself without good enough to play the game basketball. And it was sometimes I just felt like stopping and my parents. Just helped me a lot. We're talking to me and keep it in my head on and just told me to keep pushing that it will pay off and. It paid off one day. You know, Jim had a camp. Coz, James Kane came and. In there. And that's when it all started. So what happened that day when coach came in? What was going on? Did you know that was going to be a significant day in your life? What happened that day? I didn't know it was going to be a significant day. I know it would be a day that I have a chance to prove myself. But I was in a back. Jim logs Hillary and planet through on three game and coach pitas head in and he started watching. I think he got to know my dad real well and. I think after that Cam we had a game and he came to the game. And what am I team mates? Kevin Brown had a lot of schools. So we played against each other. And I think that's the game that I probably broke out and got my name is John ranch. Joining us I want to be sure that people understand this. So what's going on as you're grinding away? You're working on your game. And the coach we're talking about his James cane. He was an assistant at Murray state, and they were in Spartanburg to watch Kevin Brown who is already being recruited by the racers Cain. Sees you playing in that game that Hillary Jim he calls his boss. Matt McMahon to get over there immediately. And then he drives three hours to watch. And he gives you a scholarship offer right there on the spot. That's the story. Is that literally how it went down? Yes. Is it went down just like that? I actually think I received offer in the parking lot after one of the game. Wow. So if you're grinding away, and then there were moments where you doubted yourself, and even even if you know, you have what it takes it doesn't mean that you're going to get that opportunity. What was it like to get that offer in the parking lot? It was just an honor to. Coaches Hussein something and me, and I think that's probably one of the reasons that I decided to come to Murray state. What about that? So what led you to know or to believe the Murray state was the right place and the right program for you. They just made me a priority. Oh, man. One thing that helped me made my decision was not picking a school that I wanted to go to a school that wanted me and Murray state show it a lot of love from the began. And then made me feel like I was at home when I came on my visit and just the plan style, I feel like the plan style fitted me, very well. And then there's the story of you committing to Murray state, which is pretty awesome. Involves you allegedly getting overheated at the coach's house is that what happened there? I really just talked with my parents about committed and they wanted to commit in a good way and told me just fake thick and go to the bathroom and then come out with the Murray state gear on and did coach Matt with actually panic, and he was like do I need to turn air down turn air down in when he turned arou-. I came out of the bathroom with the Murray state shirt on everybody just started here. So that's great. That is awesome. We're talking to John. So you thirteen points, six assists and seven rebounds as a freshman and then after last season, you were invited to the Chris Paul elite guard academy that meant that you were going to compete against the best guards in the country. What was that experience like for you? And what did that do for your confidence coming into the season? How mills a great experience actually just to even be considered one of the top guards in college basketball and being able to go to the camp and also just being able to go to the camp Habgood show, and then put myself out there. The other thing too that sticks out from your freshman season. Is the fact that you and assistant Shane Nichols spent hours hours watching film when you're watching film. What are the types of things that you're looking for? And then how much does that help at your game? I really look more mistakes. Then the good things I do on the floor just to see like where I can fix some of mama steaks. Or also read the defense. He had a defense with plans. So if we have him on the schedule again, I know what to look for. So so if you're looking for things that you do wrong that you can fix as opposed to we can do right? I would imagine you're trying to be careful with some of the praise because mandate there is just crazy stuff. And I mean, really positive things like is example, Jay Bilas from ESPN. This is one of the most respected people in college basketball, and he's not throwing around praise like this. He says that he watched Russell Westbrook UCLA. And you remind him a Westbrook except your quote a little bit ahead. Skill wise, and shooting wise did Westbrook was at that Time, inC, quote. I mean, that's really high praise. What's your reaction? When you hear that? Actually, I love it. Russell westbrook. My favorite player somebody. I look up to. I just love how he played a game with like a chip on his shoulder just aggressive and also like how he do a lot on the floor. He has all around game. And that's how I play. I try to do anything. I can on the floor to help my team win and also play with a chip on my show or some makes sense to me like Russ does have that chip Russ's always had that share in. When I look at you. And I look at him you're explosive like he's explosive and he's your guy. So you love that. But it's not like, he's the only guy you're blowing up and getting more and more hype after every single game you compared to rust, but also Damian Lillard mock drafts have you going higher and higher, but you keep talking about being focused and being right where your feet are. How do you stay focused at a time like this when every single day, it's something new? Really, I give most of the credit Bobby to my coaches, my teammates, my parents and family. They really helped me with the whole process since my name starting to blow up. They haven't looked at me. No different than they have before. And also turn my notifications. Also, I don't see everything gets a good move right there. That's a veteran move right there. He's a Murray state guard. He's a wooden award top twenty list, and again trying to become the first player or could become the first player to average twenty points and Tennessee game since the assist became an official stat Murray state is at apps state Thursday. John Moran my gas. I appreciate you. It's fun to watch. Man. You are really fun to watch in really nice to have you on the show today. Thanks for doing that. Thank you. You have a great day. But my man is explosive and if you don't know him, you should know him, and if you don't know him to quick search. He's done some amazing things. Of course, if you're being compared to Russell Westbrook..

"And that's RJ Barrett. One of his teammates through averaging twenty four and is nowhere near as a and as he's going to be and then the kid from early stage. John Moran, who I think is Russell Westbrook. And and I think he's going to continue to get better. But I think those are two guys that are going to have to be considered. Plot as well. A really good article from last week after God who wrote it. I don't know if you guys can call it up. I sent it to you guys, Danny and Meller, but I learned a lot about John Mirant reading on how weary came from. And now he was he was very very nobody really want. I believe it came from South Carolina was a player in South Carolina, and no one had him on their recruiting radar and Murray state was like the first program to to one John rant and then late South Carolina got in on it and South Carolina state school wanted him. And he told the the coach at Murray state you were on me from the start. I'm staying I'm going to stay with your program. And you know last year was a good player. No one ever had them in his top twenty for this year's draft. And then what he's been doing in some of the highlights that he's been doing this year. He got hurt the other day and sprained ankle was quite the same. But John Mirant. The kid of Murray state lot of people love can leap out of the gym. He's got one of those. Dunks. I don't wanna go to graphic Meller was about when he was a kid. They would play basketball like a seven foot hoop, and they would like one kid who would dunk with Taunton by hanging on the rim and placing so we got and so he had one of those dunks. Do you know where Murray Murray state is? Yeah. Well, I Murray stay they were arrival of southern I watched Ashraful Maya go up against Popeye Jones in a double overtime. You. Remember Popeye Jew? His son now in NHL. And he played in the NBA was a coach in the NBA for a long time. And it was a we storm the court at Murray state. So yes, I'd been to Murray Kentucky for not only a basketball game. But for a football well done, sir. He's listed as six three and one seventy five. Yeah. He's he's lie. And you wanna go that route the Derrick rose route again, if you would get number one, some people think maybe you should. But the two kids playing Notre Dame tonight. We'll have the game coming up at the top of the hour. It's an ESPN television game. So the cool thing about watching the the the two of them as you can watch one game and knock it out and compare RJ Zion against each other as they play together and Jordan cornet who does great work on the jam and also here he's now working for the company on his college basketball analyst shooter. Unfortunately, his Irish fifteen point dogs in their own here. Mike breys team struggling, but Jordan has seen in person. Zairean in RJ Barrett. So he thought he'd be a good guess for us today. And welcome to the big show, Jordan. How are ya? Yeah. I got the call up. This is what you dream of. So so what do you think right now when you compare the two if the draft were today in the bulls head the number one pick would you want R J Barrett or would you on Zion? Williamson. I mean, I it's become a dope Reiter channel minor cap. I flip it on this one because I was so gung ho that RJ Barrett was guy because of the premium on scoring and what he brings his is one on one guy in isolation, but how efficient die has done. This thing with all the expectations and how he's come in delivered on all fronts. Various wave the impacts the game. Whether it be offensively, whether it be scoring the fall in the official clip, he does whether it be distributing rebounding. I mean, she can literally impact the game in every single area in dominant fashion. I I've seen anything like I heard you guys playing Jay Bilas out of the gate and me and Jay went back and forth on what's the comparison it settled on there's no comparison, and it's not to say he's LeBron James because that's not fair to him. There's just not a body that I've seen a college basketball with the skill set or any level this comparative to what he does Jordan. How concerned are you that his at least statistically his numbers from outside are not great. I know he's got a tremendous field goal. Percentages up by sixty five or sixty seven percent. But he averages two threes per game in his averaging only twenty seven percent from behind the arc in a game at the next level where you do have to be pro fish. From outside is that a concern? It's not a huge concern. I'd actually go the other way with it say it speaks to his maturity understanding that inside yard is where it can do is damage. There hasn't been a lot of volume in starts with attempts. Their recent. It's interesting though, Tommy has sort of go to the three point shot a little bit as remained inefficient there. But it's starting to show a willingness to go out there. And I think that's. Of him trying to show the scouts that. Hey, this is a part of my game that I have to prove their with everybody's comparing him to RJ Barrett. Prospect keep in mind, RJ three point numbers are nothing to show. Yeah. I think this speaks to both guys that's the place where they can grow. But it's a place where you look at their shot and their delivery. It's something that that can easily be cleaned up. I mean, let's not forget, I am not comparing abroad, but you're saying phenomenon coming in LeBron stroke has improved for the time. He came down. So I think that growth will be there. So you expect that he'll be better and more improved shooting from distance. What if to play the what if game it doesn't improve dramatically how huge impact how big an impact can be? If he's not a threat from a serious threat from from distance. He could still be dominant. I think he truly should still be dominant. I mean, his ability to impact that game defensively, they just watched tonight and Notre Dame's great with the basketball, but watch how he's so disrupted. Their weather deflects. It are just shooting a gas getting in the in the passing lane and translating that defense and offense. Second chance opportunities. He needs to show what ability to go. Right. He loves that left hand going less. But nobody's been able to stop it. He moves so well with his size that the damage that he doesn't side yard. I still don't think there's anybody in the league even links Beck in Stockton for getting to where he wants to go. But it's the relentless voter. And this is what we talked about a little bit too is there's no left in his game. So he won't be productive in a forty eight minute clip at the next level forty in college because he doesn't stop. He's gonna find a way to be productive. That's that's what I was. So impressed with Jordan like you said, and we were taxiing off the air there there been a lot of prospects in any sport that I've watched too you could see in the midst of a game in navy. This doesn't happen for coach K because they'll pull ya but who loaf a little bit or who don't get back on defense. But not only is he looking to get the offensive rebound tip dunk. Then on defense. He's. Is looking like Jordan said to get the block shot. He's looking to pass. He'll go on the outside everything like to me, Jordan. It was to get that athleticism with that high motor to me. There's so much there that you just love to see. Yeah. Absolutely like watch. And this is really obscure. But he's having a great year. Watch. John Collins the Wake Forest the guy that came out early and what he's doing in Atlanta. This is a guy with no Goto move. He's a big guys probably six maybe ten bit taller design. No doubt. There's no coats who move. He's just active. The got numbers like nineteen and thirteen a game. It's absurd because that activity makes them productive. And he has nowhere near the skill set the silent possessive let up lack thereof that makes me believe that this guy was gonna come in and give you around twenty and panicky. Steals and assists. His vision is is so under sold in his passing ability is it's watched him play. I'm more ruled at it. It's just the IQ the timing. The understanding of where other pieces are round him and how to make them and elevate their game and put them in positions to succeed. It's incredible. So what was the last college player that you remember who is this heavily hyped? Or who was this much of a guy that you said, boy, this guy is going to be great to that reminds you of him. I know not a comp as far as the type of player but the hype involved. The hype is hard. I recall anybody with this kind of hype. And and on the spot, I guess the guy that comes to mind right away. And it's only because he did college obviously is LeBron and mellow Skift. But Carmella went to college for that one year when he went to college everybody somebody gets out you got to be a credible. And look Carmelo as of late is caught a lot of flack, rightfully so some heavy contracts that hasn't produced and now he's just one of the great doesn't want to walk away. Femur was a hall of fame basketball player. And this was a guy that came into Syracuse. It's like, wow, we've delivered with a national championship Zion on a good pass and potentially achieve that. But they come into the league. And really be a major factor. I could be missing guys I've taken always at the two thousand three but it's hard to that hype. And I'm telling you it pales in comparison to the desire on the Snyder on I mean. There is a concerted effort mentioned dukes in non Duke broadcast. Just because there's such an appetite for this young, man. I I mean, they are the black beetles. It's unbelievable when they go from Jim Jim people are showing up. I mean, this is Notre Dame there fifteen point dogs that place will be packed and anybody who likes to college basketball, it'd be watching tonight and the inclusion as four door Jordan have you seen the kid from Murray state. And if so what do you think? I mean, Jay Jay is saying what a lot of people are saying I too. I agree. He's Russell Westbrook. I mean, he's a video game the stuff that he does it. It's. Stuff. Like, it's unbelievable. I'd get Chicago. You hear Murray state? You wanna you wanna turn down the volume because you don't want to think about another Murray state products, cough cough campaign. I get it. But and you talk about the most exciting guys in college basketball intelligence, John the rant is right up. There was I am Williamson. They're just playing on the stage that has but this guy at six three ripple rebound in traffic. Most the trees push it with you know, tie loss and speed. And then don't go on you like Vince Carter in his prime. It's six three and everybody worries about his physicality, and what he doesn't have there. But let's not forget, Kevin Durant. Still couldn't push one thirty five and he's one of the most dominant players in the league. So you don't have to be the strongest to play the game is lettuce, ISM laced and speed is on match. All right. So AD Anthony Davis as he wants out and cap said that. He'd before getting all the assets and trading it in for a D..
