"We're the number one radio station here for listeners, and we appreciate your support in huge white. Thank you so much for that coming up in just about 10 minutes. We're going to check in with Andy John. He's the chief regional coordinator representing Region, seven of the national capital region of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management Boy that is a long title. He's the guy who's in charge of all of the big emergency problems and acts of God that occur when they occur, and the storm was rough, and there are some parts of Virginia Lee is still sort of, well, not underwater, but there's a whole lot of water and so we'll check in with him and coming up. Also. Really important article written Ah, The American Spectator by Daniel Turner, who has lived in Washington, D. C is an urban guy. He has lived here for years and years and years, and he's done with D. C. Not the area. He's going to stay in Washington. He wants to keep listening to me, but he's done with the city. And he wrote an open letter to Muriel Bowser to explain why, and it's a very important and compelling discussion about the the pact that we make. With the mayor's and the government who run our cities because it's not always easy to live in a city. I've lived in cities for much of my adult life, and I like living in an urban setting. I do, but but you have to make sort of a bargain. To do that. And Muriel Bowser and the government of Washington D. C of the District of Columbia. They have. I absolutely agree with our guest, Daniel Turner coming up at the bottom of this hour, they have gone back on their bargain. They have violated the trust of the people of Washington, D. C. And there's going to be an exodus. There's going to be huge Exodus. Daniel Turner is indicative of a big trend. I betcha. And so we'll have that conversation coming up in the bed. A little bit of national politics to catch you up on that. Did you get this? This was Ilhan Omar. I love that These politicians are all doing these these zoom appearances and video appearances with their constituents because they can't go out and do a live in person thing. The reason I love it is because opposition research can watch exactly what they're saying. And recorded Here's Ilhan Omar. Talking about her involvement with the Democrat platform. For Joe Biden. Right now we have a candidate for president within the Democratic Party who just endorsed on brought along many of our constituents to get behind and support Joe Biden as the president, because I understand that we've we've now had an opportunity to move his platform. To be more progressive. The most progressive platform a president has ever run on on the Democratic side. Wow. Joining us now to discuss that is a guy who I don't think. Is that progressive? Certainly not Ilhan Omar, Democrat Rick Unger, host of the Rick Hunger Show. Pug has that you must hear a good friend Rick. Are you basically voting for the kind of platform that Ilhan Omar woodcraft? Well, I I actually, you know, that's not fair. I just played what she said. Rick. I know. I know. I know. I've got a pretty good sense of what is a platform and Oh, you're breaking up on the street. You're breaking up. How's that? Are you there? They're better. That's better. Okay. I What I said was. I have a pretty good idea What's going to be in the platform and I don't think it's the way she described it. Well, tell me this, then maybe you can help us out because you talked Democrat. I don't I'm still I'm still not completely feeling. How is Joe Biden's policy approach? Different than Ilhan Omar's priorities. So dramatically go through her list. I mean, she does support Medicare for all. Biden is not at that point yet. That's a key factor. Well, he's not there yet. I don't know if he'll ever get there or not, but he's certainly not there. Ah, I don't know Mother issues. I mean, that's all you got. Is Medicare for all Well, that's what pops into my head. I mean, I can't take down the whole platform right now. Um, but I think you would find that he's not necessarily on the same page with pretty much anybody on the squad. It's interesting because I haven't heard him really speaking out against the squad. I mean, he hasn't said kind of vitriolic rhetoric that we get. That s O constantly criticizing, and down, Grandma. How about our policy on Israel? Did this you are on Omar's views on Israel. Why doesn't he? I think First of all, he doesn't support I can tell you her reviews on Israel. I don't think too many people do Frank way. But why do you want him? Tio? I mean he's running for president. Well, I mean, I'm old enough to remember where you know, every single Republican had to disavow anyone on the fringe who also calls himself a Republican. Otherwise they subscribed. I mean, he seems pretty happy to have Ilhan Omar's endorsement. I would argue that we have a president who's on the fringe, and the Republicans certainly have not just about, you know, I mean, that's just that we'd have to be on the fringe. If he won, then it's not like Johan Omar won the nomination. He won the nomination. So what you're saying is Republicans around the fringe. No, I think he is. I don't think all Republican subscribed. Trump is certainly a great many of them Dio and I give you that is Orangi also view Ah, lives being on the front just on the other side. But I don't think that you run for president by going after people like that You're not back together with inferior herself of so he's got a pander to the extremes of the party to be able to solidify their support..

When you do something like this, there's a normal process you go through, but the big foot of the system so you could put down a mural that he wanted a big slogan that he wanted. Which by the way, is violation of the First Amendment. If you only put down certain types of messages in public and not other types of messages, and you're gonna have to explain why DiBlasio can't do that. But he doesn't care about the law because he's a Communist idiot. Here's Bill Deblasio Communist idiot. The fact is that what I decide to do with the black lives matter murals and this came out of a meeting of Gracie Mansion weeks ago with community leaders and activists who said this would be such an important thing for this city to declare officially That is something again transcends all normal realities because we are in a moment of history, where this had to be said and done. That's a decision I made. Wow, it had to be said and done if it hadn't been said and done, and there wouldn't be yellow paint on the boulevard. And also there might be more cops, you know in the streets, preventing black people from being shot in New York. Not more likely to die in a shooting in York City, then you're likely to die of covert. That is basically where we are in New York City at this time. Really, really well done, Everyone. It's pretty incredible that he just acknowledges they skip the entire permit process. He says. We haven't said no to other people. We said if you want to apply, you can apply, but there's a process but no process for him. Pro President Trump Women for America first assumed City Hall for blocking a mural of their own slogan slogan, engaging, inspiring and empowering women to make a difference on Manhattan roadway while allowing multiple BLM paintings throughout the city. That's something that again transcends all normal realities because we're in a moment of history. When that had to be said and done, it transcends all the realities. Transportation Commissioner Polly tried, Bird said. Anyone can apply for republic. Our program as mayor said the city does have discretion as well on painting those project. Civil liberties lawyer Norman Siegel said. This is not gonna hold up in court, he said. Once you open the door and allow black lives matter, murals to be on the streets of New York. We already know though it's going to be. A Republican held Senate so then what? What's the next move after that? Well we don't let the Senate or the Republicans and either house off the hook. We know they've made plain that. This is a partisan issue is only about on them trying to stop to Democrats from getting in the Senate, but we know that's not what our democracy is based on we support and believe in the values that if you pay taxes, you have to be represented and one silver lining out of this clash that more Americans know. That Americans in the nation's capital, the only capital in the free world where it citizens are congresswoman. Get to vote. We do not have two senators that speak for us, so we are literally. Without a voice in the Senate and without a vote in the house, and that violates the principles of American citizenship, and it has to be fixed, so you're right -joy that is far as we've gone, and this is far as we go the first time we'll have an affirmative vote in the house next Friday so I wanNA thank. All of those brave members for standing up and doing the right thing but we know a Democrat in the democratically controlled Senate Democrat in the white. House and a Democratic president who move on this in his first one hundred days will achieve statehood for Washington DC. Mayor Bowser I was moved by the images of civil rights icon John Lewis standing in front of the bold yellow black lives matter lettering. He is currently fighting cancer, and at the age of it was pretty beautiful, but you are being sued by counter protesters who claim that the mural and the street renaming shows bias to one race, and meanwhile some black lives matter activists have called the mural. Performance and painted the words defunding police side it. What do you make of the criticism? Well Art Megan and we have in DC for a number of years funded arts project called Murals DC where we use our to send powerful messages all across the District of Columbia, in this is one such massive beautiful, affirming piece of Art, and I will defend our right to do that in any court in our land. "With these protests have been by and large, peaceful and nonviolent. Instead what we have been seeing is a number of vigils popping up to honor the life of George Floyd his classmates from decades, high school gathered and released. Released balloons and retold stories of what it was like growing up with him in the third ward, and playing basketball and football with him, and while there certainly is a lot of anger here and a desire to see justice. There's also an interest in remembering who George. Floyd was as a person and celebrating that, and this comes as the governor has signaled that George Floyd's body will return Houston for funeral services chop. Still Thomson? In, Houston there where again they are mourning the death of their hometown. In their hometown resident George Floyd. Thank you and thank you to all joining me now from Minneapolis Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. mistrial, welcome back to meet the press and I'm going to start with the issue of of this outside instigators I. Guess we're trying to understand. Who are the people responsible for this violence? yourself? The Governor Minnesota has indicated that there is some domestic terrorists out there perhaps some white supremacist bill bar the attorney general. Characterize the outside instigators this way. Let me play that. Bite for you and get you to respond. Take a listen. Many places, it appears the violence is planned. Organized and driven. By an archaic and left. Extremist groups, far-left extremist groups, using anti fa like tactics, many of whom travel from outside the state to promote the violence. Now, it's understanding Mr Attorney General that. According to the Justice, Department they got that intelligence from state and local authorities. What if what do you know about WHO's behind this? Here's what I know. There's been a lot of videotape taken by demonstrators of people who are very suspicious. Who are who really did start a breaking windows particularly at the autozone and there've been other. Photographs and cars with. No license plates very suspicious behavior, but the real point is we do need to investigate the truth is nobody really knows I've talked to people who are demonstrating some of them say they think some of those folks are from Minnesota, and they also say some people have come from out of town. What the exact political motivation is is unclear at this point, we need to investigate it, but what I would say, though particularly as it relates to bill and the president. Is that they have not brought a single pattern and practice lawsuit against a major municipality where there's systemic police abuses in in America. They have actually tried to walk back their involvement in key states where they existed under the Obama. Administration, they have not moved forward when it comes to twenty first century policing which the Obama Administration Administration started so I think the federal government does have a role, but it needs to be constructing a better relationship between cities and the police departments that serve them and make an incendiary comments about. WHO's to blame here? As opposed to actually investigating, it isn't helpful. We need their help to be more constructive and less assigning. Blame them on matters that actually we don't know the truth of yet. Do you? Do you WANNA see federal charges brought against these four police officers. And you think that that will happen under this attorney general. Yes I do. And I don't know I hope so I can tell you that are local us. Attorney is a very constructive partner Erica McDonald. Is a Minnesotan She's a serious a prosecutor in law enforcement, person and I. Do Trust her the folk. She worked our hope. Just leave her alone a letter to a job. May Ask you. What's your understanding of of weather? Three other police officers we heard the county attorney and Hennepin County said that he expected charges to be brought. Where are we on that? And what do you expect those charges to to be if they are brought? I, know that we're early in the process. Chuck I mean at this point. There is the to charges of of thirty murder and second degree manslaughter. Complaint could well be. Amended to include. Additional charges or even higher charges, and the other individuals are not out of the woods. The investigation is ongoing. In answer to your question of what charges I, don't know I'd be speculating. It's not my case. This is not my case. But. You know certainly aiding and abetting is a possibility. And there are others as well. So, I think that that is a that is something that is the the county attorney. Mike Freeman is is looking into now. And, we expect to hear something in the fairly recent near future. Big. Picture Mr Attorney General of Americans. There's you know Minnesota. Has the Minnesota Nice Image Minnesota as an image of you know the? And you're. You're an African American man that got elected statewide Minnesota as attorney general as the state's chief law officer. For some people look at this and their surprise. Tell us the story of Minneapolis and Minnesota why this shouldn't surprise people in your mind. Well Minnesota is is kind of a tale of two cities. It really is a beautiful wonderful place. I love it here. Raise off for my kids here. There's so many great things about it so many great people. And yet we have very stark disparities when it comes to African Americans, health disparities in health care health, the spirits in housing health disparities when it comes to employment. And disparities! All around I mean. Give you a quick example about seventy percent of MINNESOTANS own their own homes, but only about twenty seven percent of African Americans do. African Americans are an a fragile economic position in this state, and we need massive investment, and what I say to people look if we can have some of the highest sat scores in the country. If we can have the highest voting participation in the country highest voted to homeownership in the country for whites. We can do it for everyone. We just have to have the will to do it for everybody and I. Think that this sad tragic situation my give us the energy to really really make those Kinda commitments because they are absolutely needed. Keith Ellison the democratic elected attorney general of the state of Minnesota. Appreciate you coming on this morning. It's been a long week long few months for everybody, frankly in this country but thanks for coming on your perspective with us. Thank you?
