"All right, which one's funnier, Robert Ryan. I'm going to put you on this fund, which one makes you laugh more, Paul. It was funnier. And equally as funny, but in different ways. Rob smells like humans and quite upfront. And then Brian's quite a bit of a goofy humor, which is basically a bit of meatball for them. Well, I think Brian comes across a lot more as the Joker in place to face more also your involvement. Between them, nothing's ever too serious. And although the really street businessman that nothing's ever too serious for them and it's good to be around them. Hi, Paul. When you first heard that they were coming on board, what did you think when you first heard about that? Paul. Well, when I was a free agent in the summer and it was rob macaroni called me basically told me that they were the owners of the club and I'll be honest at the time, I'm not a real smoothie fan. I had watched always sunny in Philadelphia, but it's realized that she got muscle anymore. Okay. Yeah, I've been I'm not really a film guy and I didn't know who they were and I was just more drawn by the project for the club and then obviously after that got to know how famous he really was clean and how recognized why it wasn't. But that didn't influence my decision, but when they come and you expect them to pay attention to call me on when obviously the sole high profile and things like that but with the complete opposite, I think be really got the fact that it was a down to earth club with a lot of community at aspects to it and be really bought into that because that then there's people if they've got real big personalities. But Paul, I appreciate you taking the time out in the evening where you're calling from. And I look forward to following more of you and your club and welcome to Wrexham season two has already been cleared and I look forward to seeing the final episode of season one tomorrow night and I appreciate the time. Greatly appreciate it best of luck to you and your family. Thank you very much. And now I know how the next episode ends for hopefully we'll watch anyway. Spoiler alert, no problem. I appreciate that. Thanks for calling in Paul, greatly appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you very much. Cheers, that's Paul mullin Stryker of Wrexham AFC. Check out again. Welcome to Wrexham. It airs on FX again. On Wednesday night at ten eastern and then it streams the next day on Hulu. You're right over there, 6 one now. I mean, I'm fine. I'm just looking and you go home. "It's available to stream the very next day on Hulu and of course that's something you can get on Roku. This program is just a delight to watch. It follows the exploits, if you will, of Wrexham AFC, which is a football club bought by Rob McElhenney of always sunny fame and Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool and everything else fame. Big movie stars. And watching these two blokes, right? Navigate their way through this world is just dynamite. And here to help promote the final episode is somebody who cashes checks written by these two actors because he is one of the best in the business at what he does, the man reached the 30 goal milestone becoming the first player in nearly 20 years to do so in a single season for Wrexham at the end of his first campaign, fighting for the title right now currently in season in the national league 5th division is none other than Paul mullin, the striker. Here on the rich eisen show from Wrexham AFC. How are you, Paul? I'm very good with how are you? I'm doing fine. Thanks for calling in. What is it like to what is it like to play for rob and Ryan? Paul? It was obviously quite strange affair. Getting used to obviously Hollywood movie stars being above for him. Now that a pleasure to work for the way to see it on television shows and interviews is just how the art and real life they're just genuine people and be local working for them. And so did you have to bring them up to speed and anything? Use your local knowledge? Paul? Yeah, I think they didn't show in the documentary but in turn the first came up everywhere over. I think somebody got a yellow car, which is a book in our game. And then Ryan asked me about the athlete to feel. But sadly, a student today, and it was just basically a caution to make sure next time not carry both a similar aspect of the meaning that leads the field. So that was quite clear and a funny moment to realize that he didn't understand that for I'm pretty sure now that the right incidents do not have every single real list. Well, I know what a yellow card is. I'm not completely illiterate, like, clearly Ryan Reynolds is my goodness. I mean, so anything any other moments that have helped capture the city that you can let us know how these two guys have been shown up in your town have changed things around in a way? Paul? I think since the talk over the club, it really galvanized the time you found. I thought it's shown in the documentary, it's a work in class town and people have to work really hard to win the money and to try and have a better life and then when they obviously the owners took over, it gets a place reveal less than not just around the club. They've helped build a lot more of a profile around the community and bring all the business into the community, which is how local funds and I think it's shown. And I think it was a 5th in the document to Ryan was up again along with it and invite rob, which wasn't too happy about the really shown what the funds and the community think of them because the global and taking it to new high totally. Yeah, and then I guess in that regard, Paul, for those who have followed the documentary and the program on FX and then again available for streaming on Hulu, it's your journey in particular at Cambridge united, you scored 32 goals in 46 games and then you move to Wrexham. Why did you do that? Why did you decide to go to Wrexham yourself, Paul? Yeah, I mean, it was a big surprise for a lot of people in the country when I left, obviously from playing in higher leagues to take action, but ultimately it was about my family first and foremost, I've got a young lazy sausage artist. So it was about being close to home for him. Also, obviously, throughout documented those you get paid well. Governor was able to buy an account and he can take it really fast or something that exciting like everybody else in life is one of the exercises for me now. So I just jumped at the chance to join the project and work for you too because I can't stop ever thinking about the future. So I thought to the really bold as well for me to sign for the club with the ambitions. And so what is your plan for Wrexham AFC? How do you envision and where do you envision taking this club? Well hopefully we have to get out of this league first and foremost, it's quite strange to explain to people but although this is obviously outside of the leagues that are higher, this is a lot more competitive. It's only one team can go up by within the league at the end of the season. And if you don't do that then you go into a 17 playoff like we did last year. And you have to fight it also over one spot extra to go up so it's really hard to get out of for once we get out of this league if we do then with Robin Ryan and the way the invest in the club and the community, I think we can take it as high as we want. I know they've got plan plans for trying to get the Premier League, which seems very far back to people but it's a dream and it's wind off because in ten years time who knows where they can be, it's been done before from a club that is still in the Premier League now look at performance. They play in the Premier League and they went from the bottom division right away up. So it can be done and hopefully we can take it as far as that.

"I dated mullin Brando's daughter for a year and a half or so. Two years, I think. Wonderful girl, Michelle. Michelle Brando. And I met her father through her. Very surreal. How are you doing? Nice to see you. Very strange. Matter of fact, one day Michelle and I are in a house. She didn't talk much to her dad. I had to tell her, Michelle, do you realize a lot of us came to Hollywood because of our fascination with your father, the greatest living actor of all time? She said, well, I don't remember him that way. I remember him as vacation on his island in the Pacific. Him and all his friends were getting high and drunk and crazy and they would tell me to find the rhinoceros in the shag rug. That's how messed up they were, so that's the guy I remember. I remember the guy who had his buddies take a crap and a mason jar, and then he would label it, close the jar and keep it in his shed outside. That's the Mullen Brando she remembers. There are parts of him we don't want to know. And now I can never forget.

And one of the things that goes on in my head is, I think we have to go, I think we have to go back to what is the goal because I feel like we move the goal all the time. When it's agree with me, that becomes the goal. Not whatever it is I'm trying to accomplish over here or whatever I believe in or whatever it is it's the goal is now you have to be on my side. Sure. With me, right? And so if we can break it down and say, okay, hang on a second. You know, like in a business. What are really the goals of the business? Okay, so then now what needs to happen in order for those goals to be met? Then it takes the emotion out of it and allows us to focus in a place that feels like it shouldn't be so volatile. Yeah, and by the way, there's nothing wrong with conflict. You know, counselor can be really good. Conflict when it's done well. We could learn a lot into your point about goals and purpose. You know, years ago, when I worked at mullin low, it was a pretty combative environment. What people didn't realize when you look at it from the outside is the people weren't fighting against each other. They were fighting for the best idea. They recognized that what they were there to do was challenge one another. They actually had incredible mutual respect for each other. They knew if they challenged each other, the more they did that, the better the work got. And that's why they were all there. They were there to maximize their potential as a professional as an individual and be part of an ensemble that, if they did their job, was capable of creating the best advertising in the world. And that's why they were there and why they wanted to be part of it. So the conflict part of it was actually people get worked up because they cared, but they were listening and you worked together because the work is what it was all about..

"So I think there's some steps to hoops to jump through in order to really break out of the mass aspect of it. But certainly now it's much more prevalent and at the top of people's mind that compared to even three or four years ago. I just want to mention stating you lived in Paris, France. That's like a very big humble brag. I compared to I'm not even Dallas, I'm just like, I've never seen an Eiffel Tower before in my life. So thank you for providing that little tidbit. That's awesome. And so from the guys from shepherd mullin, of course, what was your first experience witnessing either knee sports event or something within the eSports industry like live on your television screens or live in person? What was that reaction like from you guys? I could tell you that from my perspective, my eyes really opened why when I started seeing some statistics and then about certain certain tournaments that were drawing thousands if not hundreds of thousands of viewers as well as attendees for a final that dwarfed the NBA Finals that that certainly was telling and the compelling statistic. But I think the most important thing that really caught my eye coming as a lawyer in the media industry for so long and understanding how sports gets distributed. And how they're packaged, seeing eSports for the first time when I was just channel surfing on a Sunday on ESPN really and TMT that really was eye opening for me. And I think that that was a milestone at least in the United States for the typical non endemic advertisers and stakeholders in this industry to take notice. The influencer market was there, right? You've got a fan base was there. The traditional hardcore gamers understood it. Followed it. But I don't think major media really understood how compelling and how valuable that audience would necessarily be or how engaged it was until you started seeing that mainstream adoption. So that's when my eyes open, I think at that moment. What about you? Yeah, I mean, I had been working with some folks, you know?.

It's the exact same ballots that we saw in that state farm arena video that went viral of people scanning and ballots that they pulled out from underneath that people at one o'clock in the morning after observers were sent home well. Those ballots are the ones in question in this lawsuit and a judge so far have actually already unsealed then and what the the plaintiffs were given where the digital ballot images so every time a ballot is scanned in the voting machine Creates a digital and that is stored so they had access to those unfortunately in the resolution on images such poor quality that the forensic expert asked for a higher resolution and so where this case was a couple months ago was the judge had actually ordered that the town officials had to rescan those ballots at a higher resolution and hand them the images because georgia's secretary of state fouls degrees in his lawsuit claiming that it's anybody touch those ballots. It'd be felony. Charlie almost to try to like stop the audit from going forward and so this judges like all right. Twenty six second right in the middle of harlem and get van. We go play in brooklyn queens. We plan at halloween. We take together. It was the first time my teammates. You know the box you know. Big boom bonds with gazettes. I'm like damn man as nasty like she couldn't hear on the radio. I only only had a tape. I bring it back to my name like do what is that is. It wasn't on the radio. Leave it or not it's in the seventies you imagine shooting fifteen seventeen three pointers in one game. You these guys do not you regularly them shots up like they like back in the day they godwin shoot meaty threes and pickle ball. I see them getting them off again. Can you imagine you doing it. Let's that's like that's the biggest change in the game is a three point. Shot the the the number shot staked in and the plays ability billions. Bake them steph. Clay dame dame lillard. They're on a different like those guys who told but the game itself the spacing of the three point line with and four feet behind clients. Space that floor to be able to drive the drive lanes and things like. That's the biggest difference in the game of basketball. I think the better buy. I still think when there's a balanced to it you know. And ultimately the quality of reports now generates fifty quality. Three point shots. I say take them all. Bun is a fine line between just launching threes and shit drawn well drawing kin of double teams in oppose transition breeze rallies. Good so find a balance of both I still i still did an open. "Days this sometimes you so seriously guys you know there's no debts on the rams and we just driving the ball trying to get that thing in. I think that had a lot to do with it. But the combination of both being well coached unskilled development. And then when i was in i went to school in manhattan as a freshman. That's why i was introduced. Are i started playing this riverside. Church does up in harlem riverside. So i had the combination of you know kind of skill development and you know fundamentally sound and once i got to play in the inner city i kinda put those together And that's where my my big time love. I love going up and playing in the pac parks matt and going up there with some some speculation like who's just do walking in the park man. He don't belong here and by the time. The games all be like okay. You can come back to tell me about you from brooklyn he played high-school bomb ahead you you went to harlem and lebron's to play and then you said you awake here. Welcome up in there. A hood parked by. How how was that for you. You say the satisfaction you bust me Wasn't that billy oilfield whereas like comiskey play. Do you get out there. And you told somebody how was when i first before i mean obviously a certain point you get known but we i got the. How was that for like pressure so pressure so like man. I don't perform i'm done. I can't come back that you play. Plato and you gotta do it every day to. It's not just one day might be a flute now in the seventies and eighties. You know hamas a little different than it is now now. It's you know acts renaissance to the back. Dan play with some great great players. Kenny patterson maybe him from depaul in a pad yes he was asked the f. was on might seen a picnicker a washington we. We had a bunch of great place but several times. When i first started going up there you know if we pay for after get little dr picking would walk me to the train station mitch on that in there and about you know a few games in i was that was kind of hanging up there then after i've never left that was great. So you know you talk about pressure in you know it be college mba. That was the first time. I've felt some pressure to perform in a different way to get it to be accepted to gain your respect. But exactly that's really what we did our ho- careers right so me. The best form of accomplishment is the respect from your peers. Teammates may at all star games. Are those things that have voted on a when you have the respect of your opponent and you teammates that that's really what we playful as thing. That's the biggest thing the guys respected your brothers at all they respect you is like You got it all. I wanted to ask you about a player that played goes state to that was one of my favorite player. Moss lowness he was like was loaded with ninety one of guys that i used to play on the game with and do all this stuff and he's one of the first guys come over here and do his thing is league so how was that Loans came over star plan. I'm glad yes. I am dairies. I think he was. The trailblazer was other players before him. Obviously after him. But i thought the first guy that came over and had a big time role on a winning team and like an nba player guys will come and going back yup same for a little bit not not making sharunas name old on a really good team. Highly touted buddy wants yours and i mean you should watch Is is a document called the other dreams. You should check that on. Nineteen eighty-eight shrewdness played for the russian national team And probably half that soon as lifted waning. Say so in ninety two. They gain their independence and shrews put together. He was the best player he was the fundraiser. He was the he did everything and they wanna get one of the most amazing stories sports. They would do that though. Eight they wanna go. Russia ninety two got independence but anyway he was at that time with us. It might have been. You might have been the strongest in the nba. Seriously i say stronger than hads. He would go down and not knocked the ball. He would go to a two hand. Just take it from people We talked earlier about scotty. And michael. great they were. I remember one game as jerusalem. Those guys look like bernard jim as an offensive player. He would punish you hurt you because he was so strong. Just drive always last a Geddy being on. Hello hello. We plan the bulls and shrewdness shooting. Free throw a half court. Mike on snidey and you got it. I'm not. i'm not trying to get banged up with this man. He's lucky over. But one of the nicest guys in the world I've been over to lithuania several times. A visit him but yeah he to me. He was travelers on portland. so he he really explodes. He got some new jersey but she really thought. I thought was a trailblazer for the international players. And again respect. The guys respected him. He came over back in european players. Were it was shoot as we saw he was he was He was toughest now. Yeah i remember when he came over. I just thought he fit in which also will by He is plan plan. He just like fit the team..

"Of choline allowed grade. He wasn't probably became as global. Eitan right before your eyes. A big banner in barcelona and yet a big. Yeh yeah that was crazy. And you know with michael and eighty four You know we played. We came out of high school thing but is it the level of play in his. You guys know legendary stories about michael. I mean he was playing golf holiday and just coming to those gangs and dominating and the one that sticks out play coach. He and scotty job. Yeah tell me about that. 'cause like we saw we saw last last dance documentary like to just hear and see how they were talking about it and how to other guys have asset to hear barking. Some those guys. I felt bad for kuko's into that game. Tell me what that was like like. I you know we all play. We know ideas on somebody. Like you're you're not trust by handle this like so like tell me what that was like and then to just see it play out. at that point in time. Not only the two of the michael obviously the greatest player in ruling but best defensive players by off xactly. You know that's what people don't really give my man data credit for. He was a goan out as they could. He is scotty. They could pick up ninety seat and ball handler. It would chase you streams. They can play and they do everything so that game. It was just a different vibe. And i i watching. I didn't know the whole background. So that i really did. Route the whole Recruitment of tony coach but there was a there was a different focus in a different energy in a locker room is we weren't practicing. We were doing intense got requests. We just made sure we all game. We did want to set a high on how we play now. We don't we don't want just win. We wanna win the right way play team basketball but that night they were like fighting over. Who got no. I got and i mean. He probably never faced that before he face. Nobody play him like that before his left. That lanes strength quickness and intensity of you. Scotty i mean it was like you played a box in one but he was. He was not talking to song and aware that first game. Tony was like i. Do you want me out. i'm out. I'm done right like basically just yeah. I mean that. That was the vibe. I got when you you know you could see the contrast of all y'all talking about what they gonna do do it. Then you hear you see tony li- like i didn't even know what was going on. I just i hit play. I'm excited to play these guys. Dennis like all this type of situation you think about it. you know. You got mike elite league scoring but being able to do that on a defense. That's why he's go. You know what i mean. I hold on demand before you go further. You just say harwood he. He was doing what hang on. He can do it at the same level and other year. And that's what makes him the. What the goat man. go him. The goat this is a go calling him to go. Man i know chehab these conversations with these key kids molly sick and tired of it. I'm tired of it but who who taught you game because you're accu- is is great. No you're not the most athletic but you did everything everybody else there. You play the game the right way. Your accu level was above a lot like you beat a lot of cats off i alone along. You know what. I'm saying but who talked you the game two to manipulate the game. The way used manipulate the game house. So you kinda you kind of a rarity as far as like a new yorker who had the the real ratty who was this the super ignorant stroke like you had like us. You know new york. I was known for the paul handle. Get into the cup and stuff like that. Like i felt like you from my memory was like one of one of the guys that was like okay. He's he could shoot the hell out of the ball as jerry said. If you're if you're not athletic you better be able to shoot the ball you know as you know when you shoot you gain a stack right. You're buying a sudden. Might be slow but they gotta get on you. Got them max Now i i was forced into having credible coaches at a young age sauce. Ghraib or a guy named jack alesi was was my grace. Bu coach and was the first guy to introduce me to skill development. Working on my on my right hand dribble in work on my right hand layups and we would just progressed from there going jim by myself so i was introduced that that was twenty. I didn't know about that Through grade school and high school my freshman year i was appoint my first job was five nine minutes later but another blessing was i was by the time. I was Union i was six four six five. Mike coasts kept me in the backward. Though i had i had grown up guard and when i knew i was the tallest guy anybody let me play guard since that was. That was an advantage for being in a saint. john's cochina saka had coaching. Aba hitting you. The nba style And he was always you know if we if we put in offense or defense you. We'd always explain. Not only what we were doing why we were doing it. Why eric came from very like willie's trying to achieve a so. You know i great coaches. That's would act. Came from. And i do think sue you guys athletics. You see the game a little differently. You don't mean as a slower kind of plane under the rim. That's just how. I saw the game over screens using my teammates to get open as opposed to just the ball in eyeso- little things you just pick up and as far as New york guys. You know cute you said. Don't for the handles and dynamic shot making a lot of that comes from. That doesn't happen anymore. But once april came may we never was in the gym ruined the park. We played outside all the summer. Leagues were outside.

"As you about sway. i used to always love your swayed. We the way he was on the corporate one of the things. I used to love about you. The high time with fayed on the side like brooklyn new york do live from everywhere on the side where he wanted to continue. He wanted to save money. You get your head colo we get. I had dated so if you next time. You're in new york okay. it's in jamaica queens as where i got my first called cutty. I'll say created crazy right now. He from southside make acquaintances craziness. Cutty and my man frayed will hook you up okay. We can make habit if you could get you funding eighty four when i was in school. He'll ressam he's still. There was what sat out and be k. And i got a little not much. But you know i still kinda you know seeing up little bit my face to face the will. We had a lot of guys on her and they was in a lot of guys was from the dream team to and a lot of guys dream team to kick drain saying one has and i don't believe i want you think that i believe will now. I'm definitely dream team. Won you use originators. I had to act for tell. Tell us about that like you think the drain teens who had a chance to beat james anyone. I got some who was on scene team to remember. You know he likely eljay. Steve smith gary payden johnson. Jason kidd Will help a team to help the team now. Lonzo one i think was on eighteen. Right let me just tell you that we didn't have eljay we head dc Who else zags. So they all feel like it would have been nothing. No who was the one. That was the difference I mean it's it's always hard to compare generations but the one thing that's for short is there's only one dream team. There's only one time he can do it as an original right. That was the first. So historically i played any flow with michael. Patrick we had a heck look team. That was remember the lad. Last amateur jean carlos chain you'll Eight sharunas since a bonus. Beat us then. It opened up to pro so it was a whole. You know it was groundbreaking. First time to ever happen but doma. We're not. We're not going to give that away tells more about the spurs though. 'cause i know you always like the biggest thing in life that you like just seeing the oh footage overseeing the crowd standing outside the hotel like the out of world mood which out at whole tour Just just tells about ad tells about the college kids coming in getting that little one game. They beat the shit out for the next week. Yes i think for all of us the fact that was the first time everyone was getting knowing what to expect. Yeah get the call. Mounsey later i was. I'm in silos. Ask guys you know who was on. Like i'm i'm playing anyway. I'm going. i'll be playing basketball or something. Then when when they announced the gym i go. This is going to be insane. This this using a legend ninety. That's what i'm saying. Kicks a mike. Michael scottie in prime. You imagine larry icons already of the league Chuck daly coach and it was just just an incredible group of markley along. John stock is. I'm in downpatrick. David talk about just some of the greatest players of all time. Though at that point did you realize it was about to be what it was about to be it. Was you know this was going to be like one of the they call it. The best team ever assembled yongsan like the june. No prior to that like you got the phone call like how was it when you really start realizing like like. Tell me about okay. I remember watching a documentary. How was it when you get the barcelona and y'all bus can't even move is literally just thousands upon that. How was that feeling to be on that bus looking at it that it was almost comical and it was it was it was a steady buildup steady progression so we had since we lost eighty eight. We had a qualified to go to boss long so we had to play germany. Portland now is. That was a good crowd there. And i remember that in practice the week in san diego and we went to portland and you know dusted up. Those guys played well and we had two weeks off. He's always sloughed boss alone. I'll we flew to monica actually to to train again but by the time we got the boss loan at this you know. Media machine has picked up and it was just just amazing the hotel it'd be be there all night long. I mean it was incredible. So i think he played eight games in barcelona so each game it was more people and more more security to wear the gold medal game. We left the hotel. We had motorcycles and motorcade we had helicopters above us They had closed the highway and on the highway. They were pulling people to the side of the road. August went past the team. We were playing. They got pulled over when pass them so they had no chance anyway but that that was just insult to injury man. Yeah all right you got you know. Michael was the you know the prime of his career And it was. It was amazing to watch like.

"To eight elite. And you guys you know from chicago deal there. Michael joins Michael jordan said that that was michael toughest opponent. Mitch just has laid back east lay back. And that's why his name out. He's not into that But you talk about powerful strong inside out in the post. God the other team best. Got your team's best score whether he's one two three or four mitch mitchell a football flex so we had a rugged style always strong is anything and he always edits his game. You know you is. Open up guy you know. Mid range shooter went out to the three point line I mean he was just an amazing. The hall of fame for reese but some of the stuff he did. He came in was rookie year. Five rookie of the year at the twenty. The next eight seasons from twenty is growing up so he said that the ball high it just kept rising. He's game has yes so he's an amazing player. You know smashed my guys my brothers you say i thought i thought you guys only played a short time together but let me say sounds good. I'm really proud guy. You guys you know knuckleheads that you'd trout showing the younger generation. How to transition transition from from being great players you know into the business whereas i'm happy to keep up to go work. I think i appreciate. i think. That's one of the coolest things about this like. We were doing what you say inadvertently like. Obviously you know what i'm saying. We we saw on a different way. And all. But i think it's more of a testament to who we were like as much players as we were as as as person as people we were because this whole situation everything we doing espionage being able tell you like even if we were cooled and we did what we create this park after. Like the reason we're able to get the guest to get get guys like you to really sit down because we were good news. We weren't assholes we respected again. We play the right way. You know we did. Our we were young and we were brass and all of that. We came in but like to a man. We respected the hell outta era. We looked up beyond like in every whenever we play against are we were gonna play hard ship like we was like. Oh my god this is so we were super fans and super high. And i think the way we treated by in the way we were with everybody. I think that's why we get that type of respect night response and that's me light. Say they hit us. Say we sean young guys. It's dr light. That'd be like cherry on top for anything we get from doing these quite often. You'll my pops favorite team right. Now is the word says he wisely. He loves steph. Curry steph curry can do no wrong. So like he like he just got to see. Oh man. I didn't know that derive nod resigned thing that child do. He's a nice derail. i didn't know he was. I say he they'll cruise line light light the to be able to have christmas. I could get off here and say pilots chris today. You don't sound like my puzzle. Be high so thing like this. Is you know manage. it's a. it's a beautiful fraternity. that were parter. Right yeah yeah exacting. Yup you know whatever years not played sixteen years but when i came in some of those guys are replaced fifteen years so that goes back and four and you know jim being the chicago guy. Darius i watch gone through almost went to saint. John's always connection right where used to get scout reports before the game. He can't go left. You can't shoot. We also overall korea's we establish a scary puerto who we are as deep and set right. You guys came in as young players. passionate a dunkin. All you have medicine and started changing the nba the way the nba was Played because you're athleticism and youth but all along the way you guys get it the right way. You always had that sense of history. And i've felt like you guys that pass i. I loved it. I love when young plays demand. And they wanna do better. It's all about with the game is taking. Take your stepford I wanna ask you a question about young players. And i'll tell i'll go as you. He told me not to just got to live. And i got to league. I'll play the preseason indiana He he got the ball all the way you still. He's swamp through baseline and he like reverse dunk crazy just seeing light. And just you just read back. Do you remember that place cost about that. Play like we you say about me to get on the by the here for a minute The game i mean he. He was a phenomenal athlete. Incredible player great guy. But i've seen that clip several times pruning show his dunk. That's one of them from us. Coaching standpoint. i mean given middle. And i said them baseline and he just went top. Let me give you look from a realistic standpoint. I don't give a damn how old you are. What was going on your period of time and like ways seen nobody else recreated. I like that was the one of one. In one and done nuncio you ain't seen that dunk again in game. You have come on bro. He went up donkey regular on. This idea came all the way up in say wiped his entire. He wiped his ads. And i'm saying i'm sure hang. I'm sure we won that game but we went the first time i felt like that was why i'm thinking kevin garnett and we'll time. No no no no. I was still young. I was. I was probably ninety. Ninety five ninety six usually years but would you saw lose size length. I remember playing The first half he's he came at three threes. I was playing mash stomach. "That they fit the pedigree of your team. Yeah you guys look back and you know the history of the game now. Daily obviously has the all time most wins in. Nba history soviet. There is a genus. There is a forward thinking Always wanted to play with him trailblazer. So it's funny Deep miles you say that. So few years when when miss jim and i will blame basically every game some was coming up the opponent go man so nellie maui globally inflated because we would play a different style we were we were rallying gone in and we haven't gone through so that so you know you hear a lot of talk about culture right so culture you know. It's like one of those catchword. We good coach. Culture to me is having the right group of people together that are that are pulling reach other. They trust each other respect each other And you working really hard. But you're not looking at the clock is you're having fun. You trying to get their urban. You china stay lady. Can't get enough of it so mitch. Tim and i had a tremendous Bond you know. I think first and foremost our talents mess. Well like i needed dear mitch. Intimidated me so there was a From talent standpoint. It was a very good fit. We all very different personalities which was good. You know you guys had jim on. You know jim and he's gonna he's gonna bring in chicago. Congo style right. But he's not he's gonna call like it is and and by the way la always loved the play so we talked last night. Judy had forty two checks with jim last night and he was there. Yeah size texts with jim in down when we drastic jim. He landed at new miserable there to meet him. You get off the plane like yellow. Who skipped skip the president. I want to go play ball. Won't they would. So love of the game Work ethic competitor. We all have that nasa. I'll bond basketball right. That's what brought us together As funny we only played two seasons together. Believe it or not. That's the gray shot. Also they had a way to see was beautiful. You ought to be as big as y'all are to play that sort of a time. Let's really know how how how y'all was putting it down. So how long have you guys lady got two years so so think about that. No us think about the power of sports and for us basset. How so many years later you guys are tight. My brothers in this team. And i are like that and actually. I didn't even know that so. I think what. I was going to hall of fame. We all sat down and did an interview and someone said you guys play mc two years. Why brothers man yummy. That's the power sports and you know and to me wins and losses yes. The plane rides the bus rides and the officers and we spent a lot of. I'm in the off season in just sweaty blue james and just get astor and we may maybe be better now. He pushed each other. We talk a lot of junk but at the end of the day. We'll make each other better. We talk about how nicknames come about right so full you town a mitch to get run. Tmc which is why. I mean y'all know a new one of the wanted dope. Is you know what i'm saying and i don't need that like not only with job. Cole i aldea something. That wasn't really seen like three. Y'all wing players averaging dub plus on the same chain. How was that when y'all came together as a as a trio and like we all got a nickname and you already took the league by storm. How was that for your real time. Which i looked around like man. This is like crazy. 'cause usually when you get three guys like you guys are all wings somewhere along. The line is some disconnect. Like i need i want the ball or whatever so but for your it was like the perfect marriage everybody was in in sync and everything was great. How was definitely yes. He was First of all are on talents fit. They mesh well together Tim playing with the ball dynamic. You know ball handler and run incredible. Pick and rolls love to throw a ball ahead on the fast break. You know got into the paint anytime. He wanted to classic defense. I mean he's an incredible player for you know just just a big time player la crossover kill across so no doubt and talk now. Mitch you know inside out great defender in the style of play having nellie put it all together Nearly really emphasized moving the ball. He said we always go to over. Twenty we got shots because playing fast moving the ball less than you have to generate more possessions to get those shots up so commitments fitness right being able to maintain your conditioning the nickname scrawny man. We did that pretty much a joke. Which is a season ticket holders. It's amazing day like after. Probably like mom and we want to do this in some bullshit and now thirty years later it stopped him saying that little dumb ass me. We did have to practice. Well i heard it did you. Did you love it right away like sap what you'd be dmc their greens guys man. I tell you a damn day went to saint john. I was all in all right. Okay it's funny. How it stock. That's it's pretty amazing. Speaking of misery like these folks really needs enough is really used to put it dow at a animal. Ms richards was just. Can you speak on miss. We're going over all these back and forth but you the bill we are gonna fifteen twenty thirty mansell have alone on this one guy who at the end of the day. We argue over things like okay. You could talk about those names but the big thing is like. He don't fit the bill we talking about. So why are we even doing this. And it just. It was like it was redundant to me like. Why are we doing this. I found myself just being frustrated with the whole the whole conversation of We sitting here talking about nine counter by trying to do that but we talking about player exit is like why. Why or why am i doing the damn like molly filming almost out right. I did two years of the direct deployment in two years ago. Now my head. I'm a scout a pro scout. I have to do a scouting report on. Lebron james steph curry carmelo dark. This'll before dark is in his last year. I got to do a scanner per on dart. First of all you have zero you have. I don't even know what less than zero. But you have that chance of getting him while we got him. I don't know but okay coup. You think we have a chance to get lebron steph. Any of these guys. They referred to accuse scouting report from january seventeenth. Two thousand. Were just a random guy. That's gonna make a break. We come on bro. That was what i couldn't do with the job was like none of this makes sense to me. Like he can't who while we're talking about him he chan- let's talk about him. You know saying but i feel like the analytics people in a lot of the people that don't play they don't see it as simple as we do. 'cause with us either he could hoop. We can't if he can't then we'll we'll get into this dialogue which would be kind hoop. I don't wanna talk about it. And i'm aggravated from talking about it. Because he can't do is sometimes we over analyzing overcomplicating strike so especially now like you said with analytics and technology. You're allow those things. They won on record for later on and things like that. We used to go back. When i was actually i started at. It'd be like old school. Scott report ancient shoot. It needs work left. Hand like that but like you said that those top guys. i mean. it's clear as day. You can watch one minute. Note there pros right and then it just who you like better dirt dirt Dirk got over analyzed. I thought coming in is a european. It's to be you know. But i i think all the time though the way the game play now is there's less concerned about position and just straight by our last night with the warrior game in the nfl. Draft meeting Draft i said of nine for picking third. I said third third you pick and talent through mind all the other stuff to you need talent. And it's funny they were. There was a lotta speculated. We're gonna pick mack jones jones. Freelance has the higher ceiling. That's the the low you picked. You know you might get a little more details on the handrails but when you're up top there man straight down Start bench could rut room. You gotta start one. You gotta bench. Why you gotta cut one. I'm gonna go a small food in seventy small food and eighties swallowed nineties Go dr j. Larry bird and scottie pippen who you start who. You cut ambience. He this is where he'd do same players. All the time plan is always something that you can't you know what i'm saying. It ain't easy. A berg kipton dot okay I'm gonna be right. I'm to be definit-. I probably would have went that way. Now is used dots paved the way for bird and bird dinner away from yeah dot. You won't pull up some dr j. Aba check that out. Not trust jack actor men you talked about earlier when you say that you you came in your draft was the first ever. Nba lottery so that was a game changing type draft. How was that for you. And you said you're the first guard like wing player taken out all of those senate but like when all that came up for you being you know you went four years you all everything. Same job at this point. You know what. I'm saying averaging crazy and you've been hoping so you knowing that you've got to be part is how was that for you when they now this draft lottery like. Did you know what it was. Did you notice behalf. just take me back. Let time and you're thinking like what was going on in hearing all of this stuff about that. Yes you gotta. you'll go back to nineteen eighty one. Two three four like eighty five at that point in time college basketball was more popular. Nba basketball. Yeah right so it wasn't necessarily a step us crazy. Visually so raise louis we. We played our games at the guard. Jobs we play an afternoon game. We'd have nineteen thousand. five hundred. The knicks would come back and play at night. They'd have seven thousand..

"You wanted to play basketball. Was you wash and be like man. I wanna be like that all the gas well. It's funny so initially. So when i was a kid third fourth fifth grade. I was a swimmer swimmer. Nice i play baseball but but so the swim. Meet's run sundays and so with my basketball games. So you know at first choose Yeah i the coaches will cool like. I go swimming on sunday at play ball next sunday. The best ball goes up. Man you need. You need to make a decision. I might fifth grade. I wanted to boast but aside swimming My older brother was the first person i watched was far as like now is one of those guys. I just watched like so broken brooklyn new york in when i was a kid the knicks that had won championships and guy was by fraiche. Man he was down. A plan is doing right now. Yeah that was a great scene. Watch the you know with the clyde earl monroe bill. Bradley dave the bush willis reed. So that was my introduction to you right there. Well asking about and there and i loved about their team and the celtics ball movement. So so the knicks Mantra at that time was hit the open man. They were just moving. The ball just louisi- so that was the first team followed Fars players man. Like i said well frazier. I love pistol pete. I'm not reading books on him. John havlicek study avid set. Hongo and then moving forward. Like when i was in high school and college and my generation was magic. And larry. those is that you know kind of transformed college basketball. That knows like you know. Is it true that you pick seventeen because how yes was at a tank. 'cause my ice coach was a big john havlicek fan. He's always telling me to watch him. Study him Yes that was that was. I was passed onto me from some high school for yet. When i came to the warriors terry teagle had twenty so i just over to seventeen for john havlicek. Yes true like you said you from. You've you you from brooklyn. You know what i'm saying but but you played a awful lot in hoods in the neighborhood and for you to be as good as you were at any point that you get just like. Hey he just the white boy you don't sound like did you get the that that whatever it was just the doubt or the the like once you were killing. What did you see like the disbelieve. I hold on l. sandler. I can't do nothing with this do because you didn't look like them or whatever and they didn't think that you should be doing. Did you ever deal with that. Come from places like a new york type environment. Did you ever get like look bad or call out for like not somebody not thinking. You deserve the credit you were given being. You had to go like starlight not. It's a good. This is legit. Like i'm how the favor for a reason like this. I know folklore. No folktales this. You don't have these high school. It wasn't internet and everything so it was you hear about in his like. Did you ever deal with that when they see you like this is this is you had to like afterwards. It's like yeah this is what i'm saying is probably the differences like you said without without you know youtube and all this stuff it was it was word of mouth. It only lasted for that game. You gotta come back and do it again because Not zoe so yet. Every time you stepped out there was time to reestablish that you could really play as far as i'm sure it happened. I'm sure did not to wear it bothered me. You know what i mean. it didn't bother me and you know and you guys. I'm sure you agree. Like sports always broke down at that bullshit. The barry's king. And and then that three you know in with that also is like i said earlier. Then you get to know somebody like really no not not just you know so. If i was up in harlem game i was going on so i wind up going to one of my teammates. Houses how they live not not just how they play parents me and then it was different than me but i got to know their as people and that that new wasn't it wasn't some big deal over june and we you know we played three or four years ago. So these guys those guys. I play with man. I still talk to them now. My boys there my teammates and it was a it was a huge advantage in a blessing. Really for me to get that education to me that was in education and in that my is it it taught me right. We have some differences but ultimately with a sane china games again to try to go to school and their parents were trying to do with my parents. Who don't get their needs. An education to teach them to be productive citizens. That was the goal. I always go back to that time right race. Relations all his all his bullshit. Don't on i always go back to you. Know traveled on the train meeting different. People watching observing. You know in new york to divert and you know an experienced not not reading about it not hearing about in it and i think the main thing is known getting to know people who they are I think understanding the differences but really won't fully understanding how much the light. That's that goes back to. You know to sports for me. Traveling on a train so ways of new york and ultimately getting to know people and their families and you know what this situation they might have different situations but that doesn't make different. We all have one. Everyone has different situation. So i mean to me. That's probably the big. Maybe bigger blessing nine all the things that came. Nba is the relationship. That i have. And i can pass it onto my kids so they cannot understand what the world's all about not even be closed mind and try and you know. Make your assumptions in your in your decisions on people's strictly just because you know so you know that's just like one of the blessings i always go back to that growing up having you know up in different neighborhoods but ultimately was getting no these people as eating. That's what basketball deal for me. Man like prior to to plan basketball. I had never been around like hanging out with white kids. I had that just not in my neighborhood. We were all black community like once. I started playing basketball coaches. I got introduced firs white people around and stuff like that that was like and it was culture infamy johnson that guy me culture that got me like a lot of the same exact thing you just stripped down any type of bank we have. We won't be around each other so it just allow me that visual to see i man he just like me ages. You know whatever. His parents is like trying to make sure that he's gonna be okay and he's yeah. I thought it was a little doggy for a pause and he liked this. I'm like community. Like i'm dog barking. They might have hired each other. They might have hurt. he said. It's my a big as just as we take just Number i live this what i want to say to. You said one of the things. Like when i said victory like the reason why i said it could use you. Say something to me that the entire population of the nba world admits. I worked in front of you. I wasn't in that same high position as you. Black feel like what you just said should be uniform across the board like when you look at how we scout players in how we look at players and do all of this evaluating the players like the first question is should be asked in answer before we do any other. Evaluations is can he play. You said it either. Can't he play..

"I one st john's represent on our show. He is not. I won't say. I committed to saint jazz. Josh's representative list Why jarvis my job is well man we. I got him in my movie once. I didn't come the next year. We did a movie together respect. My job was in the movie coastal but no he is not. I think there was an old jordan. They yeah but you just said that. He was first guest in saint. John's we had ron rod. Oh we forgot. We did all right Right i've got. Robbie gave us like twenty five minutes. 'cause he was in and out real quick goes crazy. Episodes twenty minutes got on about a real quick. But i know you're a saint. John's represented a man like fewest. Go we saying. And patrick ewing coaching. You're on modest and plan against each other like man all the history. The big east wars the careers. Nancy you guile with our coach and his team you coach and you're saying like how was that experience for you. Yeah it was. It was somewhat surreal. you know puts a time on and everything out time. Fly came out so in that eighty five lottery. That was the first lottery patrick. It's a number one dick. We had played In a mcdonald's game together we played against each other. You so you know we went way back to one thousand nine hundred. Eighty one played four years of you know big time rivalry between saint. John's at georgetown and patrick. When it when. I went to saint john's i years you actually called me He was thinking was coaching with. Maybe orlando somebody said. How's the college. I just explained to him the differences of the nba And i didn't know why he was asked. I kind of had a you know feeling but few weeks later major the georgetown job and as you said q. I mean a darius. When when it came to saint john's it was a big time. Flashback man it really was. The place was hacked. Teams aren't good at that time with the garden was rocked in the energy in it. Yeah it was cruiser and then you know we we we we had with man. We really did. We have to really good game sewer against georgetown. Young coach was in a standards when patchy came to the guard who when we went to to play. Georgetown the john thompson was there. We got to talk before the game. The giants. You know just a great great trailblazer. So cool impact. I always talked about. It was funny. You guys probably know this. When you talk to young players you wind up really passing on the knowledge that was given to you. That's really what it's all there wasn't it wasn't data dingo volume practice that and find myself saying something that he would coach carnesecca Taught me or don. Nelson larry bird all the guys that i played for. Just passing that knowledge on china who You know in college. It's a little different. Mba trying to guide them as well as made them the best. They can be all those kids. Wanna be pros most of them. We will not be trying to use those that motivation inspiration. You know so. Work ethic discipline You know passion things that are going to work on basketball your later on in your lies. Did you ever see. Oh south one. The culture i will point. Did it become like. I can college. I'm interested in coach. How did that all come about. Yeah i don't know how you guys were when you retire. I want to do is get off. Set schedule of traveling jumping up lands. So i took two years. I took two years off and really just kinda chilled in. You know the house then. I went into the front office. The warriors i took two years got a special assistant learnt. Learn front office gig Then i a. I was lucky enough to get the gm job. Death like four or five years when tv at espn for about three years went back to sacramento at that point in time It was one of those things in my head. I'm always felt like i could do it. And i found myself analyzing coaches players right. I'm like well you know they. They had approached me. Several times saint. John's i've always liked against coach fan. That's not my thing but then it got to the point rows like what. If i don't do i'm gonna regret this. It's always going to be like what so i kind of. China really was pretty quick decision. I said you know what. I'm gonna jump into this. I had had started doing a little. I was about getting assistant coach in the nba. So i had my play books from from different teams. I was on. I started getting together. So what my philosophy on what i would do an opportunities presented me. I had done some research on us. I jumped in I'm glad i did it. We had a really fun for years. We improved each and every year and just a good experience to find out. Just another side of basketball. You know Yes so. I mean it was a good experience was enough for me for years was enough for recruiting was grind. I want says that but when you get into that is that listen you know. The the one thing is practices games film work. All the basler stuff. I loved the other stuff. Kinda took a little bit of my passion. Ways wasn't enough basketball as much. That's that's that's my issue with the whole different side of like I would. I couldn't even. I would never say never right. But i just couldn't see myself going back to college in china recruit chase behind people do all that angela. My time in detroit being on that side of it being in front office in you know being at work with players in all of that stuff but like you said it's a it's a lot of the other stuff that comes with the us as players just aren't used to because we we've always been about the game plan the game and things that come with that and a lot of those people and there's no disrespect to nobody but a lot of those people that didn't play the game and play at the level. We played it. We don't even have some of the same concerns that they have. They bickering compliance fighter with some of the things that make absolutely not any sense. We don't even care. We don't care where we sit on the bench. We don't care about any of those things we his purely like. Wanna be able to be a part of the game be rounded in bnb impact game. But like i'm with you on that that that kinda turns you off on everything. Is that that other elements. Yeah and i love. You guys followed even right now the way. The guy's transferring just overnight redo your roster and the newest thing now that that that's not the poem yada as my friend. He coach zuccaro baio. What's going on with this. They can now transfer and play immediately. So it's just like open season and then you think about the younger players are the more consistency. You need to get any kind of rhythm. Chemistry and teamwork. So that became a little disheartening. So i guess you know. I wasn't one of those license now. I mean if. I was a lifer like i'd still be playing if i play right. I'd still by love play. That's the other day when i talked to you. Ashleigh from the floor on the court. Yeah so like. That was a love of mine. I love that everything else after. That was okay. But it wasn't wasn't it. I would like i said man. That's so some of those guys that brevard that's their passion that they'd love that don't love it like that. Yeah who is it that you saying that the started. You wanted to play basketball. Was you wash and be like man. I wanna be like that all the gas well. It's funny so.

"So let's build up the gravy four cheltenham by starting with the one fifty at sandown. It is european breeders fund. Patty power national novices handicap hurdle. The market is fairly tightly. Congested as we record on thursday afternoon. What's your approach to. The race is one of the One of the most competitive handicaps off the season for notices. It has in his time. Take place not quite at the cheltenham festival but on the friday at cheltenham after the festival chicago. What's called bear. Cluele one yes they They had an extra day's racing at the end of the festival. Which was not part of the festival was like the old roy. Ascott then yes. It's accurate roll. Asked where you need of ascot heath for the Roy saturday and easy. It could easily come on the place at the festival But saw here we have it's He's don't get the weekend before. I and it's it's a typically ver- really competitive renewal. I was thinking of some of putting my man selection make bracelets very nearly near the top of my of my shortlist because he he was running up with his first start over hurdles on one his bumper at at harris on he he won a novice hurdle arts become her hand for last night. Beating winds fire on some of the hunter looks okay form. He was favourite for that business in his previous form. And i didn't look too awful lot to win it but the phones were tight. While windsor finestone with the hundred were second and third on the pair of them have run. Run well since a win. File second door sidelight called meru. Shameless mullins is He's all right on the Blame the game. He was favourite was a winner of handicap on his next start at faking him on the the divorce. He said he finished third at some herod. Run very well on his on his nick start She'd been to start since including being second in good handicap at reveal the j. So that's that forms working out. Well he will progress again. But i kind of expected the story here to be that some conflict was a strong favors. I think constantly really ought to be clear. Favourite for this rests on looking at this. I look at a go right. They're gonna make conflict. show press. Who can find against him. Kind of an automatic thing. The conflicts performers all being on heavy ground. This has been his his aimal season now. One not want a couple times and bumpers times. He's been beaten over hurdles beating twice in exeter second. Both times should have won one. It's not farmers which i really well. i think. Constantly the winner musto a lot. Dan level of martin all martin. How must give him wit. I i thought obviously you can make a case. Martin house improved again having one from seoul water one again at extra heavy grind last time out but i saw that some in terms of you know you have to put them together in terms of raw ability. There's nothing between them. So getting this from on hollywood definitely young favorite conflict. Who it's over.
