Companies Get Political
"Lee newman ceo of advertising agency. Mullen low you ask. Thank you for joining us So the first thing. I wanted to ask you. Was this change that we've been seeing in. How companies are handling kind of the political events. That are happening right now. I mean in the past. I guess in the before time. Say a couple years ago from what i understood. It was always sort of conventional wisdom for companies to kind of stay out of politics. I think that's exactly right while they're there may have been things happening behind the scenes and certainly political donations and watkiss to the public facing. I generally speaking brands were. Were trying to remain neutral and stay out of politics. I'm wondering if there was like a point this year when you started seeing a lot of companies coming to you about how to approach politics I'm wondering was it around the the murder of george floyd yet that was a watershed moment. Because i think that there was a growing realization corporate america that you couldn't simply opt out of the conversation that silence was Complicity and you had to say something. And i had vice that we were giving over and over again as whatever you say should be backed up by actions in terms of what you're doing within the walls of your company but also How you're given. And i think that that's carrying over to this past week across a broad spectrum of companies. What was it about that moment. I guess that caused this shift because all these companies i mean there were the ones like nike which you know made a lot of sense given colin kaepernick and things like that but also there were brands like i remember gushers fruit snacks. You know they came out with the statement and everybody kind of chuckled about it but you know they came out saying like we support black lives matter like this company wouldn't be what it is without black consumers and workers I mean it seemed like all these companies were all kind of stepping out in a way that at least to me it seemed like a new like a new thing absolutely and i'd like to start with a positive and believe that there was a genuine desire to create change and so i still all these years in the business world than i still start with optimism there but it's not. It's a good thing. I feel like you know that's it. I'm glad to hear that. Visit the world of businesses not always compete a little cynical. Yes please. yeah. And i don't think that's the only reason i mean i think it's also a direct reflection of the political views of of the leadership and then the third thing which is really important and should not be underestimated is the power of employees to put pressure on a company to use their influence. And there's a talent war going on and when the real heart of a company a talent of a company raises. Its voice in unison management. Oftentimes reacts to that and then the last reason talk about is people's ability really search and know how companies are behaving how they're donated and businesses are aware of that. I think that the last point businesses knowing that that people are paying attention Is driving a lot of the behavior. We've seen most recently in the past week. Were you surprised to see so many companies kind of speaking up in the last. I guess week or so. Did it surprise you to see so many companies kind of coming out with statements. It did surprise me and surprise me to see a lot of companies that I would view as as as more conservative actually using their influence to to make a stand. Why do you think those companies did that will. In a lot of cases. I feel like Companies were doing it out of a business. Need you know on wall. Street loves stability and what we saw. This past week was the opposite of stability. And and so i think that a lot of ways these companies felt like they were protecting our democracy
What Is Worcestershire Sauce?
"It's that brown sauce with a nine unpronounceable name. It looks on paper. Like war hester shire. It's a tiny tasty edition to red meats soups and pretty much. Anything that needs brazing. And according to the company that originally created it lea and perrins. it can be pronounced. Worcester shire worcestershire or worcester. Sheer worcestershire sauce is used to make good things even better because it packs a lot of savory nece sometimes called you mommy the word emami by the way was coined in the first decade of the nineteen hundreds as a way of marketing. The then newly isolated flavor compound monosodium glutamate or msg but back to the sauce. We spoke by email was shameless. Mullen a chef at the institute of colin area -cation he said in recent years there's been a newfound interest in amami or the fifth taste after salty sweet bitter and sour described as deliciousness. The amami brings out the natural flavourings and food makes steak taste more sticky mushrooms. More shrew me worcestershire sauce is made up of a lot of flavorful ingredients including anchovies. That's right it's not generally vegan plus red onion molasses garlic tamarind and malt and or cider vinegar mullen said the vinegar and tamarind bring a punchy city to the sauce and the molasses and onion balance out the sweetness but the true magic happens during the lengthy fermentation process which takes eighteen to twenty four months. This last and most critical step was something of a happy accident. When supposedly in the early eighteen hundreds to chemists based in worcester england john lee and william parents were charged with duplicating a recipe that one british nobleman or another had enjoyed in bengal. Their first effort was an utter failure. However and chemists left it to languish in jars their seller a few years later they rediscovered the batch and were thrilled to realize that fermentation had turned it into the perfect savory sauce. They started selling it in eighteen thirty seven. It came to the us in eighteen thirty nine and is sold in over seventy five countries today when that original leeann parents product was shipped overseas. It's glass bottles often broke as a result of rough waters. So the company began rapping the individual bottles and paper. The tradition continues today more a way to distinguish the brand rather than a need to keep the product whole the company lost the copyright to the name in eighteen. Seventy six a while. Leeann parents recipe remains a closely guarded. Secret competitors have sprung. Up to make similar versions. The bbc counted at least thirty others and worcester alone. You can even making it yourself at home. Mullen said while the aging and fermenting process might be a bit much to undertake at home. You can make a very tasty approximation of worcestershire sauce. By simmering soy sauce mustard powder malt vinegar tamarind paste garlic anchovy paste tomato paste ginger molasses and spices. Those spices he said can include coriander seed mustard seed and the clove as well as orange peel and black pepper. He explained the simply. Mix all the ingredients and similar to sauce consistency. Then strain in store liquid. There are lots of recipes online including several for those of us who have been playing around with home for medication and of course the beloved sauce isn't relegated to stakes and such either. It can be added to pretty much anything that needs inning bitter bloody mary fondue cheese sauce eggs popcorn potato salad dressing or a grilled cheese sandwich. Leeann parents even recommends a splash of it in place of your normal dashes of salt and pepper. The continuing enthusiasm over mommy flavor is carrying over into the share market and this recent uptick is expected to continue projected through twenty twenty five. At least mullen explained amami hounds have been on the hunt for heritage condiments likely and perrins original recipe and there's an ever increasing trend toward finding new applications for the sauce or marinade. Cocktails worcestershire sauce is having a moment.
Woman shot during Capitol riots in Washington, DC named as US Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit
"Identified as Ashley Babbitt was shot and killed as she tried to breach the doors of the House Congressman Mark Twain. Mullen was there and said the officer had no choice. He has actions well, maybe judge a lot of different ways moving forward, but his actions I believe, saved people's lives even more, unfortunately, did take one Capitol Police made 14 arrests. The Washington D. C. Metro police made dozens more for violating curfew and federal prosecutors drug charges against 55 riders. They said A large amount of material was stolen from the capital that investigators are still working to take. Stock of two pipe bombs were found Band of people Or terrorists, not Patriots literally occupied. The floor of the house drove the Senate out of its chamber. And the question for the country is How could that happen? 20 years after 9 11. In
Why Roku Wants Quibi's Content Catalog
"Last year qube became infamous as a well funded but short lived streaming service. It raised one point. Seven five billion dollars from high profile backers ben shutdown just six months after it launched now people familiar with the matter say the company is in advanced talks to sell its content catalog to roku the leading distributor of streaming services. Here to explain what's going on and how this news fits into a broader story about the streaming industry is our media reporter benjamin mullen. Hey ben thanks for joining me. Hey thanks for having me okay. So we should note that these talks are still going on and they could still fall apart. But i want to start by just understanding why a partnership could be strategic for both sides here. So let's start quickly. It's obviously now so what's in this. It makes sense for you to do this. Because the licenses to the content that was on their service is one of the most valuable things they still have. They have cash on hand that they're planning to pay back to their investors. And i guess the reason why they're doing this is because it's what they still have so it's one of the most valuable remaining assets and how is going to be handling. Its content more broadly. Now that it's shuttered. The company really put a lot of resources into its content big names. They recruited a lot of talent and the trip. Some really out of the box content ideas i imagine. They don't want all that to go to waste. So does that factor into these talks. Yeah they're still trying to figure it out. That's what these talks are about is all the producers who developed programming for qube they want their shows to be viewed by people because they put all this effort into him and qube wants to make money as much as they can from the library that they have and so buyers potentially want to exhibit these shows sell advertising sell subscriptions around them. So you can. You can see why it would make sense for all parties to get. Get to a deal here. Yeah and let's talk more about roku point of view. Why would this be strategic for them. Specifically roku has its own channel called appropriately the roku channel and they sell advertising on this channel and the advertising that they sell on the roku channel. The terms for the advertising deals are really really favorable to them so if they have more original content that they can put in the roku channel. They have a better case to make to advertisers and potentially more advertising revenue and of course their main role right now is as a distributor. That's the position they've been leveraging as they make deals with content producers as we've talked about on the show recently could up partnership with qube help roku convinced more streaming companies to make content available with roku. Well you could envision a situation where they tell. at which owns hbo. You should put your content on the roku channel because look at all this content. we have on their. We have exclusive content so this channels are really valuable. Place for you to be and you'll be alongside some other really good shows and one thing i have questions about. Quip was made specifically for mobile and it really prided itself on its so-called turnstile technology that changes the formatting of the shows depending on which way you're holding your phone but roku is primarily used on actual. So how would that partnership even work. That's a good question. I imagined that a lot of the content that'll be showed on the roku channel or roku if this deal would go through would be in the horizontal aspect ratio. Because most people's tv's are obviously oriented horizontally the vertical component of the shows. I'm not sure how that fits into a traditional roku. Apper your roku viewing device. Got it so questions yet to be answered here and just zooming out. What are these deal. Talks tell us about entertainment. And the strategy behind how content producers and content distributors are trying to navigate the fast changing world. I think what qualities demise showed. Everyone is that it's really a competitive place. There's a lot of streaming services that have launched even the last half year so and qube was obviously unsuccessful in navigating the competition so and roku has built success largely on the back of the growth of streaming because there are huge distributor so roku was accompanying that manage to really seize on the success of streaming and is captured an ever-growing part of that pie and qube. I think you can safely categorize them as a half of the streaming wars. You know they haven't been able to capitalize in the same way that roku has and in this case roku so it like the winners of the streaming moore's may end up absorbing the losers. Yeah yeah in this case. That definitely seems to be what happened all right. That's a reporter. Benjamin mullen ben. Thanks so much for joining me thanks. Amanda

"Talking about hands now. There's a little more advanced than i'm certainly not a crazy expert when it comes to off into blind but if you go back and you look at what's staley was saying about bose's a rookie or what williams was saying about boza in training camp. They're saying he has incredibly advanced techniques and moves and it's very hard to get a hand on him because he's so good at the hand fighting and that's what pass blocking is all about whoever wins the battle with the hands typically wins that play. And it's because if you can get your hands on the other guy you're capable of affecting him and moving him where you want. Whether that's offense getting defender to stop in his tracks or the defender to knock the offensive player out of the way to get their hands and get the leverage and when i watch mcglinchey times that he fails horribly. It's not necessarily that. He's not there or he's not in position it's that he whiffs when he tries to get his hands on the defender and i think the problem is mcglinchey is not capable of reacting quick enough. I think he has to have an educated guess. What the defenders going to do. I think he has to anticipate and when the defender does something. He's not expecting. He is horrible at reacting encountering. I don't think he's capable of countering and to me. That's that's mistakes that you expect a rookie to make maybe a second year to make. He's in his third year. You can't be making those mistakes. It's a technique issue. That i just don't think he's going to get better at at this point when he whiffs. It's because he does not literally does not get a hand on the defender. The defender does something either swats hanaway in a way that he's not expecting or goes to a spot that he wasn't expecting it and mcglinchey whiffs and i think that's what it is. It's not a physical thing. So i'll give him that that it's not a physical. He's not a week player. He's just incapable of doing one of the most important things pass blocking but like the best left. Tackle in the league is on the other side of the offensive line wooden. Some of that have rubbed off like hit them up. Hey trent how the hell do. I do this thing like she shouldn't that be happening. It should and that's the problem. That's why i don't think it's going to improve in your four. He had two years with staley. Before that i mean he said two of the best left tackle in the league to learn under and he's not improving is is mcglinchey better than he was as a rookie. Maybe slightly. I don't feel like mcglinchey is really improved. A whole heck of a lot. He's just kind of the same guy where he blows a couple of plays but he's really good in the run game pass blocking is an issue and remember by the way the beginning of the season. The two guys at this coaching staff was talking up day when they met with the media every single time it was driving me nuts. Who were that. You remember. Mike and salomon thomas two guys that were awesome. They were so much. Improved and thomas was kicking butt and mike mcglinchey. Kyle was saying how he's so much better. You could see it already. Well he's not. I mean if if you wanna give him as the most possible you say. He's as good as he was last year. And that's being pretty damned generous so you know it's just another example of pay no attention to what these guys say. Pay attention to what actually happens in what they actually do. So are you picking up mcglinchey. Fifth year option. No definitely not picking up a fifth year option and quite honestly if there is a cheap replacement. I would go for it. If there's a veteran you can count on the for some reason doesn't get the big deal. I would spend a little bit of money crazy money. I'm not talking. Ten million plus niners can't afford that or if a tackle drops in the draft and he's sitting there in the second round. I would pull the trigger on that until she. You're moving inside. Make it as a guard or you know. That's it in his year. I i would not guarantee go. And she's starting position next year. But i will say this for solomon thomas. The true verdict on whether or not the coaching staff loved. Solomon thomas will be whether or not robert. Solid brings him to wherever he goes. Nobody will sell them thomas. I'm sorry he's a good dude. He's a really good person. He's been to a ton of adversity. God knows but he's just not a good and he's certainly not worth where he was drafted. I mean we. We all know that right. He'll he'll still get to play. I don't think he's just going to be his. His career is not over. He'll get sign somewhere. Just won't be a lucrative draft at all but if solid highly of him sala won't want him brought to wherever he's going we're going to get to sala and him leaving and what some of the effects could that be a little bit later but you mentioned possibly replacement right tackle. Maybe who somebody. Maybe somebody that doesn't get a big contract. Well a lot of times the guy. That's pretty good. Doesn't get that big contract is because he's a guy with an injury history. Are you saying that you're willing to roll the dice on a guy with injury. History to replace mike mcglinchey next year. No i did do a mock draft posted on twitter on the pf mock draft and all four of the top. Quarterbacks went in the top seven. And i had the niners. Picking fourteenth in mock draft ended up taking attack on the second round. Because i trade down multiple times and picked up a bunch of second round picks. That's more what i think. If there's a a good tackle who is likely to be starting quality sitting in the second round i would probably pull that trigger especially at the niners. Don't get the quarterback. They want an end up being team looking to trade down and pick up. Extra picks waited your quarterbacks go in that draft all four win top seven. What if i told you that there has only been one time in the history of the nfl. Where four quarterbacks have gone in the top ten well talked to pf because the computers drafted those teams. It was twenty eighteen. That was the baker. Darnold rosen and josh allen draft. That's the only time we've ever had four in the top ten so four hundred zero at twelve right now. You know you gotta assume they're going to lose the seattle game so that's one more loss that they could easily lose all the rest of the games that's going to get them in the top ten so if they did want a quarterback that that guy's gonna be there more than likely i do think that regardless of where they pick unless they somehow win. Two out of three. Which i don't think is going to happen. But unless they're picking somehow like fifteenth sixteenth even if they're at like twelve thirteen they will have the capability if they want to to get one of the top. Quarterbacks are not going to get fields. they're not going to get lawrence they will have a chance to get either wilson or lance. I would say it's more likely and you guys can go crying on twitter if you want especially nine or eight. I don't think it will be wilson. He.

Chris Doering talks Florida and Georgia
"We welcome in chris during Who gives us her. Quite a look ahead to tomorrow's game. Chris in most years florida hosting lsu of the sec this week. It's been pretty quiet. I am curious as you know those two teams so well especially from florida side What what are they thinking as they get one of their bitter rivals in a bitter rival that they are a prohibitive favorite. It is weird. Isn't it paula. Me and thinking back to win. This game was originally scheduled. I thought most lsu people felt like we're gonna get a chance to play later in the year we'll get healthier. We'll get miles brennan back. We'll be in better position. And i would argue that. They're actually in a worse position now than when they were originally scheduled in october. So i it's kind of a weird dynamic with a lotta florida. Fans looking forward to sec. Championship game next weekend for me. This is all about. Florida has nothing to do with their opponent. Lsu it's about getting right offensively full full-fledged dress rehearsal right costumes everything. Let's go for what we're gonna do next week. I i honestly been kind of disappointed with florida's offensive performance. The last three weeks dating back to the vanderbilt came. Because they just look inconsistent. They look like they walk through a haze periods of time. They look like they're not executing and part of it's their own fault for looking so good against arkansas in the second half and missouri against georgia. We set the bar pretty high for them but focused level has not been there for a full sixty minutes. I want to see all fence. Get back to executing at the level. They were early in the year defensively. Let's get some things shored up. Let's figure out how to keep from giving up these long passing plays. Let's get generate some more pressure on the quarterback. Let's be able to to penetrate and stop the run something. I thought they did. Well against tennessee last week but The thing i'm gonna keep my paul. What are the numbers for. Kyle trask because obviously this is a game as you said against a A bitter rival one. That beat florida by fourteen. Last year florida's got a chance to return the favor but they also have a chance to outduel in back to back weeks what mack jones get did against the very same defense. And don't think that winning the heisman trophy is not something that dan mullen really wants. For contrast and something that will help his program significantly going forward in on that subject. How do you compare. Kyle trash to meg jones. And that's really his main competition now and that we know we know what had next two weeks especially next week but what what what what separates college trask. If anything well first of all. I love both of these guys you know as a former receiver. I love the the accuracy. I love the the the way they re defenses and get the ball to the right guy. On what the defense is dictating But i would go back and say kyle. Traffic is probably had a tougher. Time than what mack jones at and. That's not taking anything away. From mac ios but look at how. Good this offense of line is for alabama. Look at how well they've run the football over the last six games or so look at what. Najji harris has done. Devante smith the reason why iraq jones's numbers look so good on the deep passes over twenty yards and no disrespect. Mac has been really accurate. But when you're throwing a guy that's five yards behind the nearest defender. It makes it a little bit easier. So again i think without the run game florida certainly not able to run the football very well. I don't think they're offensive. Line is the most consistent So i think the load that kyle. Trask bears a little bit harder to to carry them. What jones does now with that being said. Look at the weapons of florida has i. I don't think i've ever been able to say at least in recent years. That florida has more receiving weapons around their quarterback than what alabama does. They've been absolutely loaded but Looking at the way that that not only kind of is utilized trayvon. Grimes justin shorter. All those receivers. Jacob copeland has come on as well Forgetting about tony. Who might be one of the biggest Factor mismatch guys in the sec. Right now but the way. They use the running backs as well. That was something that we saw against georgia so a lot of different guys. That are helping. Kyle trask out. But i think with the advantage that alabama has on the offensive line and that run game to complement the throws down the field. I think kyle may have a little bit more of a impressive Season just because of how much he's had to do himself chris. Couple of games. I want to ask you about one. Particular auburn at mississippi state mississippi state has been up and down we. We've been through that conversation. But i'm really curious about auburn. Because they've had some really good moments this year and then some clunkers especially lately. I know what you're doing here paul. You love it. When i go off on auburn and it's been up and down year with them right early in the season. I was really down on him. I was starting to get A little bit more positive with the way they were able to run the run the football figuring out who they were with take bixby and that offensive line and then they got hit with a bunch of injuries up front Bixby was was banged up.

"Or your favorite podcast app to be sure you don't miss a single episode all right so we are back and we're gonna talk about the forty niners who all of a sudden are in prime playoff spot so the cardinal it helps because the card is lost the patriots and tampa bay lost. But i'm not sure how big of a deal that is. Because i i imagine it's gonna come down to the forty niners the vikings and the cardinals. We are probably not going to have an eighteenth week where there is an eighth seed added because the nfl is not very smart and despite having a seriously over twenty buzzfeed cova tests the ravens. Steelers have just keeps getting postponed postponed their plan wednesday. So unlikely unless there's another which i mean the with the way things are trending who knows but anyway where do the forty niners playoff odds currently stand akash super bowl. I mean i feel like that's where the mood has shifted in the in forty niners. Twitter land All of a sudden they win one game and it's like class but they're still very much on the outside looking in. It's good that they're finally on those like in the hunt graphics like espn puts up or like fox puts up when they when they talk about playoff scenarios. They finally made it so Like you mentioned And football factors which we all love Does their playoff simulations so the niners now have an eighteen percent chance of making the playoffs And it's basically you know if they get in it's going to be as that number seven while in the wildcard As a result of their win against the rams Their playoff odds increased by about fourteen percent. So they were dead in the water and they got a win now all of a sudden they have one in five shot of making the playoffs basically And now as we look forward to playoff scenarios and i'm sure as many fans out there who are going through all the combinations. I always think of the picture where i forget what it's from. There's the guy sitting in the office with like in front of like the pinball a ton of crap on the wall and he's like freaking out like that's what i imagine And so nine hundred five and six right now. there's two other teams that are five and six the bears who they may not win a game matt nagy calling out his team they may turn on him completely so i think the bears fall off the vikings who are five and six. They're kind of up and down. But you know. They have mike zimmer and kirk cousins you never know they have games against the saints and the buccaneers later on in the season so they have a tough games left and again if they lose one or two of those. They're probably out of the mix. Which i expect to happen so i think it personally it comes down to arizona san francisco area zona. Who has a game lead on the niners sitting at six and five. They have two games left against the rams in the division They have a game against the giants. I believe which new york is a tough out. I think giants probably going to be in the playoff mix in their own division. So that's not just like a given w also play the niners later on the season which will probably have major playoff implications so just looking kind of at the other teams who are in the mix. I think the niners can get there if they can win. Four of their next five games. I think kyle's at ten wins. I think nine and seven will get you there and now the question is can they get to nine seven and what some of the injury issues we talked about earlier. One of the things had mentioned earlier. Was that jimmy garoppolo. George get will not return until the last few weeks of the season Which means that. Nick mullins is going to have to win you. Two of the next three games. Assuming garoppolo can out The last two weeks. So do you think that nick mullins can win two of the games and then somehow lead this forty niners team to the playoffs. The good news is against buffalo. He won't have to because anybody can run on buffalo you gash buffalo on the ground and the defense should be like it'll be up to the defense to get stops and it won't be like the onus won't be on nick mullins i imagine in the same way it was against the rams so we saw mullins last week. Might be the last time where he's asked. you know. Lead the team to come back so we got that out of the way. I was like who we're like. We have the bills now. It's the bills. Are i wanna make it clear. Like they're a good team and they have playmakers talk about them but matchup wise is what the nfl is about in the same sense that the rams are a bad match up for the forty niners are very good matchup in most spots anyway and the reason i brought up the vikings and i know they're they're five and six much like the forty niners so they still have a for the jaguars on sunday. Let's say that that's a win. Six and six then they play the bucks loss. Probably seven and six there. They have a couple coin. Flip game so they play the bears and the lions and that sow in between the saints or sandwiched in between there. So they're they're probably gonna lose to the saints. I don't like the there probably beat the the bears just because the bears. The bears haven't won a game in ten years. It seems like and the lines aren't very good either. So it'll i think the vikings will be there. I think their defense is flying better too. So that'll be something to keep an eye on. But i don't watch arizona. They make so many knuckle headed plays like they always find a way to lose a game in a you know with the way that they're trending. I trust the rams more than them. So i think they're gonna lose the rams and i imagine when the niners they're not gonna get swept by cardinal that. I just don't see that happen. I know that the cardinals are much better. I know that they're probably not going to you. Know look anywhere near that. They did in one when teams played. But i just don't think that they're as good as their record appear. So i i am with you. I think the ford guys have a much better chance than a week ago. I think it actually comes out before. Now is the vikings and it's going to be if the forty niners the cardinals. I think that that would be the trailer i think. That's what will get them over the hump and that's assuming that the vikings go in the same That nine and seven eight nate If they in a beating the saints and oh boy we we might have problems. So do you know. I don't know that the tiebreakers of the you know the head to head division conference whatever. It is for the vikings and the forty niners. And obviously we'll be able to sort that out as we get a few weeks down. But i lean forty niners just because better. Coaching better players. Like that's another thing. They have a ton of good players. And i don't feel like people understand that the reason that they are able to even retaining this conversation is because for the united stevens like their stack on defense. They have a ton of weapons on offense. They do have a good offensive line. They just haven't had a quarterback to hide the same issues. That other that other quarterbacks are able to. We're seeing videos. Every week of mahomes making these crazy backpedaling throws as he's under pressure or we. See that with a few quarterbacks davis because that's not a fair comparison to took a pair of the best quarterback shoot kirk. Cousins makes plays with a poor office of line so As soon as we see a quarterback able to elevate the town that's here..

Soft Power 2020
"Am joined today on special soft power program by mongols foreign editor megan gibson monocle culture editor kiara ramallah and monocle twenty four culture correspondent and eurovision desk chief. Fernando augusto up. We have a lot to cover in analyzing who made l. top ten this year and who didn't but we should talk about first of all meghan. What an unusual year for calibrating soft power. This was because of course it was like every country on earth given the same test it was like he is a pandemic deal revert. And see what it says about you. As a nation did it make a difference on how countries will seen by the rest of the world and soft power terms. It absolutely did like you said every country was dealing pretty much the same set of problems but just as internally the pandemic kind of shed light on where countries weren't up to snuff and where there's certain systems were lacking or the social welfare net was not working so too did a show which countries were really relying on kind of coasting approach to diplomacy and soft power. Every country had to turn inward in some respect. You had to face an economy. Crunch you had to face a healthcare crisis but a lot of countries still managed to think about diplomacy and what. They're projecting abroad and to other countries and global cooperation. And that is something. I think that kind of threw up some surprises when we actually looked at the year in terms of soft power some countries that have never made our list before immediately caught our eye. Well let's talk about that. We'll come back a bit later to how different countries responded to the covid nineteen crisis. But let's look first of all at our top ten and meghan all ask you again. You were talking about surprise entries in the top ten. Who is there. The see that hasn't been before i think the first one. I'm going to go to taiwan. And i should say we've done top ten this year. Usually we do top twenty five. We quickly realized that there weren't twenty five countries. That actually made that good impression on the world. I would say this year. A peace prize in the nineteen forties. Exactly we cut it down to ten and picked the ten countries that did something notable on the world stage and taiwan absolutely one of them from their stellar leadership in actually handling the virus. Which i mean has seen the country. Even today has had quite a minimal effect. On at the helm of its citizens numbers have been tiny and given their proximity to china. Remarkable for that. That's just been something that they've really been able to step up and show that they've had good leadership and for such a tiny country and a country that has been long grappling with a very antagonistic neighbor. That's been really impressive. And i think we've also could look at another country that has made our list consistently but also small and has done really well with the pandemic and that's new zealand new zealand again a beneficiary of its leadership and of its leader. Another factor we will come back to later in the show. I wanted to bring you in now. Kiara refu- look at the top ten. Were there any entries in there that left out at you. It's difficult for me to look at this without my cultural hat on. Because i do think that cultural exports make up so much of a country soft power their own way. You know if you do have a tv hit. That really can change. The international perspective of people have on your country in the issue. We have profile of borgen. The danish show which kind of guess kicked off almost a huge facination with scanning wa. I'm happy that south korea is in the fair number and i were discussing. Grammy results on are getting their first ever kind of major grammy nomination. I mean that is huge because the grammys are essentially a us kind of awards ceremony. Yes of course it has one global subcategory but it's largely. Us fakest for a korean bond to be nominated as part of that really means that they have become not only a korean band moore global bond and that radius testament to the power of capes. I think south korea has really well deserved second-place cultural reasons but also for all the other reasons dr megan was discussing. It's very interesting. Also you you know you mentioned new zealand as well and perhaps it's a very niche reason to be very well known abroad but i do think that new zealand has got an increasing amount of really interesting. Musical acts that are genuinely world class. I'm talking the likes of zuma. Alice harding benet talking. Broods mullen williams all quite indie acts but in the the community which is very dedicated. Genuinely these are kind of agenda setting also around the world. So i think it's really interesting. That a tiny nation can produce a really interesting side of the musical experimentation side of things obviously around this table. Four nations are represented all nations with instantly recognizable and widely understood national brands. And that's my nation of australia. Kiara of italy fernando's of brazil megan's of canada which i notice is the only one in the top ten. This whole thing is just the most shameless stitch-up so fernando to bring you in brazil a country with a powerful national brand and yet you are not in the top ten this year. Do you feel especially put out by that is. Is there a case you would like to make well. No no no not not in two thousand twenty eight gave you the big buildings builder. People would be surprised by me. Because i always a believer brazilian. I'm very proud of being resilient. And i am still an and we do have an amazing opportunity to be one of the best countries in soft power so perhaps in a few years will be there the top of the list but honestly i mean this year has been terrible for brazil president. He's an isolationist. he's not handling very well. The situation in the rain forest which matters a lot for the outside world. Perhaps those of us who enjoy breathing so exactly. But i mean it. It is an issue in brazil. but i notice. We've all my friends when they say. Oh how during forest the amazon. Your president doesn't care. And of course his declaration sometimes every day he said something quite offensive to specific groups. And it's funny. I was trying to say i mean. What is brazil doing. well now we. We are student load of great things but even at football you have. Our biggest star neymar liked by some. But he's but even in brazil. Laura people don't like neymar like perhaps some aspects of his personality. So then i think even football. We're not so well liked turfing. We need to improve. I am an optimistic. I think things will change but two thousand twenty is yeah. I agree it. It's not the year of brazil. And i do think this year has been a blip for a lot of countries and as i was saying you know cultural experts from italy. Obviously still very strong italian food still eating around the world unloved around the world especially on this table but this year it was all about the countries that had cut through and what the cut through was what the stories that were resonating around. The world like fernandez. The amazon is what people were thinking about. When they thought about brazil they were not thinking of amazing beaches. Or you know wonderful culture and things like that it was the bad headlines that were really being projected around the world just finally in this first part of the show. I am going to rise heroically above complaining too much about the struggles exclusion in favor of new zealand. And just let these self evident absurdity of that speak for itself but meghan there couple of other countries which again have shoes soft power in princeton fact arguably the countries with the to hugest soft power imprint i e the united kingdom and the united states neither of the mike it and is that just about covid nineteen and all the people who happened to be leading them at the moment. It is definitely down to leadership. Soft power is usually something that is built up over years and decades so usually it can survive a bad year it can survive a wrong thinking government but in the case of the uk and definitely the us. It's not that. Diplomacy was neglected in the last few years. I mean we've seen a lot of policies that have been actually hostile to global cooperation. And i think a lot of people's perceptions of those countries have really shifted especially when it comes to the us under donald trump.
Nick Saban tests positive for COVID-19 again
"It's not a happy Thanksgiving cc to the saving and family right now. Couple days before the Iron Bowl and Bam coverted positive this time. It's not a false positive. Nick Saban test positive for Cove in 19. When I saw this news I'm going. You got to be kidding me. Iron Bowl Week. And this is this is not a false positive. This is a positive test. By all reports he will miss the Iron Bowl against the Auburn Tigers, where Against coach Miles on since Mount coach Malzahn was hired as a head coach for the Auburn Tigers. Alabama, four winds miles on three wins. This has been a tightly contested or robbery between these two head coaches and one of them. Coach is the number one team in the country right now, and he will not be on the sidelines when you saw this news, Courtney your reaction, Woz. Here we go again, Uh, that Georgia game. You know, it felt like every 15 minutes. We're breaking in on SportsCenter. With updates about is Nick Saban's test positive. Is it negative? I mean, we kept going and going with it. And now that you find out this man actually does have symptoms. I know. He said that he has a runny nose, and it's nothing like super catastrophic and he was a little horse in his press conference, but He is one of many college football coaches, um, including several in the S E. C. N o Dan Mullen had it who now have the Corona virus and are now dealing with this And you know, my thought is This couldn't have happened at least to any other program that has more reinforcements in place to prevent against things going awry before a massive Massive game Cozy, you know is doing everything in the right was sure. Absolutely. I mean, that's once again. We can't villainize there vilify people forget in the prone A virus at this point next day, been said it that panties like I go home. I go to work. I don't know how I got it and You know that program. Um, given who's next in line and who's going to be taking over with, you know Nick Saban watching the all 22 during the game. I know that he can't have some magical headset to put all of the conspiracy theories out there. He's not watching the game and calling the place. It's not like Hugh Freeze in the hospital bed calling place of Liberty. It's that level three wishes probably could. He will have a really at halftime. I mean, he will be on the phone with coaches trust me, no doubt at halftime, but Your point. He did speak today after being diagnosed positive with the coronavirus. Here's a head coach of the number one team in the country next saving on the just on a couple days right now the IV but a couple days before the Iron Bowl, his head coach of Alabama Was informed this morning that I had tested positive. It was a PCR test, which was different than you know, the false positive I had before. I don't really have any cardinal signs of the virus Right now. I don't have a fever, No loss of taste of snow, no fatigue, no muscle aches. I informed the team this morning at 10 on the zoom call on and I'm up. I'm the only person in the whole organization who tested positive on this, You know around. So you know the Alban Games, obviously the most important game and We hate it that this situation occurred. But as I said, many times before, you gotta be able to deal with disruptions and this year and our players have been pretty sure about doing that. Well, we just want to carry on the best we can.
How are changes to sexual harassment rules working in schools
"In May, the Department of Education made sweeping changes to title nine regulations Peter Medlin with W J reports on how colleges and universities are coming to terms with new policies. Many advocates in school officials say will chill reporting the new regulations changed the definition of what qualifies as sexual harassment under title nine to meet. The new standard harassment must be quote severe pervasive and objectively offensive. She Wa Patel is the Director of justice for students survivors at the National Women's law center. So these rules kind of in total really just turn title nine on its head as a civil rights law says they raised. The threshold of what schools can choose to ignore, and it's a departure from guidance that's been in place for wrong twenty years if a student isn't being outright denied equal access to a program or activity that might not be enough. So that means some substance would be forced to endure repeated an escalating levels of abuse before they can get help. The new rules also require institutions of higher learning to dismiss reports of harassment the happened off campus. Now, they'd had to put together a separate sexual misconduct policy to apply to those situations. This has ramifications for online harassment especially as many schools move to. More virtual instruction during the pandemic faith Ferber is a student engagement organizer with no your nine. She says, if someone's harassing you in a class zoom meeting that would be covered but if someone is sexually harassing you over facebook and then you have to see them in the zoom classroom that wouldn't necessarily be covered a northern Illinois University. Title Nine Coordinator. Sarah Gardner says they do have procedures to help students. We had the opportunity to see okay even though it doesn't reach this level of conduct how we address it as university but as faith ferber says the problem is that places like and I You could ignore those cases that they choose to, and she says, the Education Department isn't there to protect students either we can't count on our schools can't count on the government. So all we can count on is students and student power to really make a difference in holders schools accountable at a you students held protests last year on the basis of the university was mishandling investigations and the process was slow and apathetic. The university hired another coordinator and Garner says, they're much better equipped to handle their case load. Now, the new regulations are over two thousand pages two, thousand, thirty three to be exact and. The policies themselves fit into the last thirty pages or so the reason the document is so long as so that the Department of Education headed by Betsy Devos is trying to justify why the chains are needed and respond to public comments. She Wally catalysis says there were more than a hundred thousand comments mostly opposing the new rules they were school principal. There were mental health experts over nine hundred trauma specialists joined a letter and raised concern about the rule. So the significant opposition and yet they continue to move forward Sir Garner A, you were one of the many schools that Senate comets harshly not. Many concerns made it into the final regulations. Patel says, the provisions were largely unchanged from what was proposed, but there were also a few changes that weren't even in the proposed rule. So they didn't have a chance to comment. One example is that colleges and universities are now barred from dealing with complaints by people who aren't actively participating in an education program that means a school won't be allowed to investigate a complaint of sexual harassment if the survivor already graduated or they transferred or let's say they dropped out of school because they were sexually assaulted and they don't plan to re enroll and colleges. Could dismiss cases when the respondent who's being accused isn't enrolled or employed by the school but tell that could include professor who retires or who resigns after abuse comes to light. Another chain that wasn't included originally reiterates that the department's guidelines supersede any state law and some of the new title and changes are in conflict with Illinois. State Law one forces those going through an investigation to undergo cross-examination in a live hearing and as Sarah garnered I says, we have a state law that says, you cannot cross examiner one another. This is the price sexual violence and Higher Education Act however now, the federal. Regulations. You must cross examine each other in public comment. It stated that this quote turn educational centers into courts of law and allow for parties to be subjected to quote demeaning inappropriate, and irrelevant probing there waiting for the Illinois Attorney General. Kwami Raoul away in he along with seventeen other attorneys. General is suing the Education Department to block the final rules from going into effect. Garner says they'll find out if they have to proceed with the guidance on August fourteenth there are countless other issues advocates say make the process more difficult for the people involved and for the school conducting the investigation and Peter Mullen.

Critics calling him ignorant of the super spreader potential of that now, he says, he's sorry, he said it yesterday, Alabama's head football coach Nick Saban tested positive. For Corona virus. He's isolating at home ahead of number two. Crimson time versus third rank Georgia on Saturday.

Athletic director Scott Strickland says the situation will be re evaluated by U. F Health and the Athletic department Sports Medicine staff Wednesday. "mullens" Discussed on Niners Nation
"One positive performance aside, Kyle US me last week this Guy Talk to you gentlemen I'm not GonNa talk to Kyle Guy Kyle asked me last week. Did you see the bengals play? A cover, the eagles, the eagles played the bengals and he was he was asking me about Joe burrowed. So let me turn back to kyle now kyle. Did you see Sunday night football. I was sleep I did not see what? I did not I would not even sure who played. So you'RE GONNA have to film in place. So Nick mullins come on down. You're the next contestant on. Do you have a quarterback or maybe do you have a backup quarterback Kyle I spent all week singing mullins praises on the BGN feed and look I still think he's more than a serviceable. Spot starter he was pressured on fifty eight point four percent of his dropbacks a league-high for week four he wilted under that pressure BIS clean throws early to in the game. So he is not like it was it wasn't all on the offensive line he would get benched for CJ Beathard who immediately marched down the field for a touchdown drive. Thanks to. Some soft coverage from the defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz of changing up for the detriment of his defense So you cover the forty niners lean on new for this kyle. What happened with mullins on Sunday night in there l. to the eagles the one area where the Ford is we're GONNA lose this game was if mullins was under pressure and he come. To. That pressure and if the bright lights were just too big for him and both of those things happen. So the very to first throes of the game mullins has just a giant window to hit on a slant misses him on the next play. Shannon draws a player action pass where the fullback comes clean on a will route leak rate design great design. The linebacker trying to guard you check on the play follows down. so He's wide open and it's him and two defenders who are probably twenty yards down the field guarding. That's it. So at the very worst, this plays going for fifty yards and mullins airmails it. So from then like when you miss those throws as a player, your confidence goes down the drain immediately. When? I'm keeping track of these Games which was completely my did a chart and nobody else's on this podcast. MULLINS MOEN's was on target for fourteen of grows, but he was off target for. His throws how that doesn't happen quarterbacks in the NFL. Do not miss that much but he was missing berry poorly, very bad. He's making some terrible terrible decisions and even worse he was like cement blocks for fi like he wasn't moving at all and he took some sacks that he just had no business taking Williams got a bad rap and some of the plays. If you just watch them back, they weren't really on trillions because if A. quarterback takes one step up one step to the right one step to the seriously any baby step anywhere you don't get sacked, but it was probably one of the worst games that you'll see from a quarterback but he was he's a backup and he played like a backup but I think you do have to give the Philadelphia Eagles some credit upfront because they I mean, they came after him they aggressive and they did a good job rattling. Him Nick mullins got sacked one in every four times he got pressured. That's how bad is pocket presence was I just looked at start up for you right there. Kyle that lets you know that a quarterback is not managing the pocket very well at all and the eagles can be hurt by running quarterbacks and mullins was definitely not running quarterback and when when we previewed him on the QB factory bgn marks Scofield, kind of couched his take. In the fact that if they're able to get constant pressure on them that Nick Mullins is GonNa is GonNa fold like a lawn chair. So I mean that's exactly what happened. I still think mullins is actually a decent quarterback but like you're seeing why he's not an green starter, you saw why the forty niners didn't WanNa take trade offers for him against the giants. It's it's a double edged sword with Mullen. So that's.
"mullens" Discussed on Bleeding Green Nation
"So we are we drudge through our weekly. Carson Wentz Performance Review on Yeah Verdun style. Hopefully, the next one is a is a lot more cheery Let's let's talk about what's going on with the forty niners. So again, we are not sure of Jimmy G. is going to play this game they're gonNA. Try We don't know or right right now I think nick mullins is going to be the starter if. It ends up being Jimmy G.. Will record something you know or I'll record something about that later on. But I WANNA talk about Nick mullins here and look the banged up forty niners in and the eagles should look at their injury. Let's look at what the forty niners got going on and understand for diners rebel to beat up on the hapless new giants thirty six to nine. Right showing that you can play good football against bad teams with Iraq of injuries and they did it with their backup quarterback Nick Mullins who how hand is quite fond of in my opinion is the. Type of backup that you love to have when you need them for a stretch, a guy that can get you through some games and racked up a couple of wins. If things are right around him on the day, he was twenty, five, thirty, three, hundred, forty, three yards, nine point, five yards per attempt one touchdown passer rating of one Oh eight point nine as I was going through his throws mark I? I just got the feeling that Shanahan was just running the office like they normally would and they weren't afraid to push the ball. I mentioned Wentz only having two completions beyond. Ten air yards in a in the air you you had for three mullins at ten plus yards nine for fourteen, hundred, fifty, three yards, and even win they threw its short. The forty niners gave him a good deal of Yak to to really boost up that offense and they spread the ball around to a did you see the same thing in terms of how the offense function and how mullins functioned within the offense? Absolutely. Absolutely, and let's be clear. You know me I'm not known for drop in heartaches or takes period I'm like Miss Luke to cold when it comes to this But I'm there with Nick Mullins I. DO think that he's a better quarterback between Emma Jimmy G. Right now I and this is something that almost predates this season. I remember like two years ago right over pats pulpit that mullins should be their target for a post, Tom Brady world like this is the guy like you watch him. Anticipation manipulation all the little things. Now, those are the veins of lead me to believe that Brett? Repin quarterback four in last year traff class it. So maybe I'm not the guy to listen to but molly checks a lot of the boxes that used to matter at the position all those little small things and when you see this game against the giants. It should hands offense like they haven't changed anything. They had said look bad. You're our backups or just GONNA, run slant flat eleven times because you know that's all we can call their run the same stuff they're running league run vertical concepts. They're letting them challenge downfield. You know he's taking those shots if he can. If not check at down, he's making smart decisions the football. Yes he's efficient what he pushes it downfield like you pointed out seven of nine in this game not once numbers. Obviously it's so look I think this is a kid that can play the position and obviously Shanahan has a certain type at quarterback like Jimmy Garoppolo heated CJ beathard in the third round now nick mullins like he wants guys that are smart. With the football, make quick decisions with football and that are accurate and he'll fill in the rest schematically. That's what he hasn't mullets like this kid is good and that's why the forty niners turned down. Every single trait offered that they got for him this last off season they really do love this cat even though they have what they think is a franchise. quarterback on a on a big contract now so they definitely have faith in him to run run the offense, and like this is going to sound crazy but I think it's easy to undersell mullins if you're not too familiar with them, the guy is definitely function I I think my question now is mark like what rattles mullins where can you get him? What are his weaknesses? What can the Eagles due to him? What does it look like when he has a bad game? Does that happen while I mean I think like with most quarterbacks it starts with pressure like if you could get quick interior pressure on him, which again is like the old cliche thin. That's one situation that does rattle them his arm is. Sufficient, it's not great. You put those two things together that screams to me, rex Ryan versus Tom Brady. That's to me you show him some different looks up front. You try to get pressure on you use sometimes those radar lime and we've seen teams usually you don't know who's common who's going. We saw that Monday night from the Ravens a couple of times against. that it worked early but you've gotta play sixty minutes against that cat like so you try to get pressure on him and then you take away underneath throwing lanes you force everything to the boundary if he's going to be hitting fifteen yards twenty yard out route against you and wins that way like fine. Tip your hat to him. Calm your daddy move on with. Your Life. But if you let him hit the underneath stuff if you let him seem comfortable in the pocket and he throws, it wants to hit while then that's on you like you've got to take away that stuff. I, rattle a bit move them off of his spot and force them to hit shot plays or routes on the outside deeper than say five or Ten yards downfield. That's what you've gotTa do against that your best shot and you look at the way, the forty niners are built near getting back towards kiddle. They're probably getting back. deebo Samuel. They have Brandon I. They have all these big guys. If you let him throw short going to take that all day and they're just gonNA blow up his stats after the catch. What they're gonNA do in the Eagles are. A prime example that was his first start. If I'm not mistaken was against the raiders a couple years ago would Garoppolo hurt and benched battered and one of his biggest plays in that game I believe it was a Monday night or Thursday hundred. I think it was the third dinner I don't think it was just a simple slant route to George kill. And it was one of those moments where he was backside, he was actually frontside of three by two WHO's empty formation and knows quarterback that middle linebacker in the rat is going to open to the number three guy he's gonNA open to says so he's opened in his hips to kiddle, but that's what he wants to go the football..

How confident are you that Jerick McKinnon can handle that workload with his injury history? I'm very confident he he's done a great job and all the recipes gone in these two weeks every time he's gone opportunities came through for us. Obviously, those two guys being outed should get more opportunities this weekend he deserves it. I know he's excited for and we're excited seem in case you're wondering McKinnon hasn't rushed for one hundred yards in a game since two thousand fourteen but he also has that twenty carries in a game just once it is entire career. Oh Trent I was with you right up until the end. Hopefully he plays better than kirk cousins. He's been terrible this year. Mullins hasn't started since twenty eighteen when he got the nod for eight games and he threw thirteen touchdowns, ten interceptions and two hundred and eighty four yards per game. Regardless, of WHO's under center the field underfoot has certainly been a big topic of conversation this week the NFL has said things are all good but that won't exactly put the players minds at ease Bolanos tell you the week we're not gonNA think about it now go across in mind but when you got a three hundred pound, I'm in front of you as trying to please you back I think deserve is kind of falls to on the back burner and. Now, a team doctor accidentally punctured a lung while. Giving a painkilling injection in the ribs now unlike Taylor Clark actually played the entire game after that. But what happened after the game is even crazier go check it out something to watch. Okay. This isn't exactly forty niners related, but I did see it because Jennifer Lee Chen of NBC Sports, Bay area posted a video of it on twitter thirty-three-year-old Maya Gabeira. A seventy three and a half foot wave. It is the biggest wave surfed by anyone during the twenty, nine, thousand, nine, hundred, twenty, winter season, and the video of it is awesome. something. You may have missed the forty nine or spent the week at the greenbrier resort in West Virginia. To avoid the cross country flights between Games at METLIFE stadium. The resort is located in White Sulphur Springs which apparently was known for its healing waters about two hundred years ago. Shanahan what do you think about that? Final 53-man roster projections for all 32 NFL teams
"We're to get into the fifty three man roster. So today, we're going to make some projections I did a roster projection heading into training camp was on July twenty seven I had Jalen Hurd making the team I had Sean Coleman making the team. I had a few other players that they're just not going to make the team for whatever reason. So we're going to do that again today after trying to cap after all the news after everything we've seen and read and it will let's just compare to see what's changed since. So start with the first things first quarterback, Jimmy, Garoppolo, nick, mullins, CJ, Beathard I think they all make the roster I. Don't think that that's going to be very you know very controversial. It should be. I mean yeah. I I. Agree I all three of them making the roster as well. Especially, this season with Cova did I imagine that most teams will try to carry three quarterbacks if they can especially just given you know you never know. What happens if Garoppolo or mullins or you know they were to test positive or whatever the case is right and they were mistime than having Beth who understands the system? He's not great by any means just having them in the building is going to be advantage. Advantageous this season. I made this comment to someone else earlier Beth. `Red to George Kettle is Kinda of like you know James Jones or Mike Miller was. and. Lebron he's like teams back in the day. He used to have like those guys like travel with him. I think CJ beathard and George kind of like that George must have somewhere in his contract that Caesar method must be on the roster wherever he is. Those our buddy buddy but jokes, apart I I think all three of them will will make the team. So that's funny. You say that because Caitlin Beth one throwing to kill this off season for the most part it wasn't. Garoppolo. So maybe there is this weird clause in the contract right? I mean I feel like I could make a stronger argument where you carry two quarterbacks as opposed to three just playing the odds last year I can understand it as you know Garoppolo is coming off an injury. So you want to just protect your quarterback you WanNa make sure that you know united last minute fishing for a quarterback but you know he's out there he looks comfortable. No knee brace. In just in this situation I just can't understand a situation where. What are the odds that your third quarterback plays a snap in the regular season game just play the is I imagine that's less than ten percent very, very low at imagine. Right if we're going to do that, yet are the likelihood of a quarterback testing positive for having that whole situation happened shared night. There's a possibility that can happen without. It'd be a risk that I'd be willing to take, and I would much rather have you know a position player as opposed to you know a third string quarterback that major. May Not like the is that he throws a pass on likely and he's not going to help you in special teams or anything but that's I mean that's a Shanahan's ways and I don't see that changing I. Wonder if that will change you know this year with mullins and method both moans is a restricted free agent, right? Yeah. MULLENS will be back. He's restricted free agent. CJ BEATHARD is directed So hopefully, this is the last we've seen of method. CONHAM. I. Hope they don't some deal but Yeah it's tough. Especially, you know when you're having. Debates over other positions trying to like squeeze some other guy and you've got who's affected taking roster spot and like you mentioned, what are the odds that he plays right? but just given. Kyle and where they draft method and what they're trying to do I think they're gonNA, they're gonNA keep him on the roster rather than just swallow their pride and cut him. So both said before the pod before we hit record, this is what we think is going to happen not necessarily what we would do if you were in charge fifty, three man roster so.
It's a lot harder to get out the vote during a pandemic
"They say meet the voters where they are especially if they're your friends on the Internet from American public media, this is marketplace tech I'm molly would. It's a lot harder to get out the vote. During a pandemic political strategist and organizers are trying to buy new ways to reach voters and potential voters, research shows that usually in person interactions are the most effective technique, but now organizers are turning to an old idea. A turnout captain, a local volunteer who whips up voting interest, but combined with targeted data and sometimes APPs, and they're finding that that combination can really work marketplace's Kimberly Adams covers money and politics and did some reporting on this for us. Things like knocking on the doors of strangers to be in their face about a candidate does not work in a pandemic, and there seems to be a shift among sort of the political strategists and the get out the vote folks to really look at something that's called relational organizing, and I spoke with her thick Balasubramaniam. He's at Howard. University works a lot with data and with campaigns on this idea of relational organizing and. And here's how he explains it. Essentially you make a list of your family members, friends and neighbors, and because of research we know that the Messenger really really matters way more effective than TV digital or radio is when you hear a pitch straight from someone that you'd know and trust, and that makes these things a lot more effective according to the research. We've seen so far right. Do apps like this exist now? Sort of this APP called turnout nation. The founder Mark Mullen was telling me that with this APP. Basically, it doesn't necessarily push people to you, but you just say hey I want to get more people out to vote. Here are ten of my friends and family that I am committing to help them get registered and help them turn out to vote, and whereas a traditional campaign method of saying, knocking on the doors of strangers can boost turn out by like two percent. Their method boosted turn out by about thirteen percent. And why is that because it's more personal? Not just because it's more personal, but with turn out nation for example and a lot of the ways that this sort of get out the vote tech is being deployed for relational organizing much of it is not associated with a particular campaign. Most up vote efforts are run by candidate campaign specifically they tend to sort of be focused on a huge amount of stranger to stranger contact, and the last maybe month or three weeks before the election, but there are a lot of people. People who want to increase turnout and do other things to support American democracy year round and A. They don't necessarily want to do it in the service of this or that candidate and they only want to do it just before before Elections Right so folks like Mullen who work on this say that not only are volunteers more likely to get involved when you strip out the politics, but they also say that people respond better as well when you're just saying. Hey, you should vote. To Hey, you should vote for this particular candidate so obviously like this is a unique moment because of the pandemic, but it sounds like if it's that effective, and if you know, events may become less popular or good old fashioned door. Knocking becomes less popular at. The groundwork for a different type of digital campaigning in the future I think there's going to have to be a different type of digital campaigning. Now you can imagine some hesitancy by campaigns to us. Sort of this turnout captain model that that Molin is highlighting because they don't necessarily want everyone to turn out to vote. They want the people who were going to vote for their candidate to turn out to vote and the individual campaigns are scrambling because our entire campaign infrastructure is built on sort of these face to face interaction. A lot of that is just out the window.

"When it really matters everybody nobody is all right? I'm ready to go I just need you to defend me an alice. Time for the state farm safe bed of the week the Seattle seahawks at Philadelphia L.. Fia You can count on but hold on Philadelphia Bonus Safe Bet. I think after hawks win this game I would not rule out the eagles making a run at this. We'll break this all down now. We all know that Seattle is Arguing with the best teams in the NFC and their two losses this year. They had that weird loss where we didn't realize how good Teddy Bridgewater and the saints are going to be in the Ravens. Put It on mm-hmm especially in that second half but the sea hawks have Russell Wilson who I would put second the MVP race. Behind Lamar Jackson others would have him I The locket Wilson Connection has been incredible. The defense is not the same now for Seattle that we're always been used over those years and I know what you're saying Ryan. What about the West East travel? Don't do it. Don't I'm GONNA do it. I think they Philadelphia this week. Now here's the thing with Philadelphia. We understand that loss against a win-win now looked at as this awful loss when it's still like look it. It is New England patriots. The offense was a mass but they were without two of their top receivers and they still had went on a deep throat. Almost tie game out. They were also without their lead running back. They lost lost one of their tackles. and Larry Johnson. I don't know that any of those guys are even going to be back or at one hundred percent if they get them back against Seattle but what you have with Philadelphia even with all the on struggles. It's a much better team. I think than the five Fi- record indicates and when they get some of these guys back and they're playing at Miami home to the giants at Washington home to Dallas and at New York to close out after the Seattle game I think Philadelphia is going to go on a run here the corners better. This team has actually been a little bit better than the way that they're talking about. So I'm still picking Seattle to get it done against Philadelphia on the road but it is not one of those. Oh right off Philadelphia Type of outcomes and who knows maybe.

"So if I'm better, I'm gonna force them or I'm going to try to. Force Mullins into the throwing an uncomfortable spaces, and that's going to be near the edges on the outside. And I'm probably going to pack as many damn defenders as I can in the middle of possible. Because if Nick Mullins is going to find success against the giants, that's where he's gonna wanna find it. And so I'm I expect we'd see a lot of cover one a lot of cover one robber. And just basically taking away the middle forcing throws on the outside. And then probably bring in some pressure that hopefully Molins hasn't seen before. Nick Mullins for as impressive as he was on Thursday night. He's going to you know, you got tape in the league now, and nobody can adjust or catch up faster than NFL coaches will for the most part, obviously, there's still some boneheads out there doing things that make absolutely no sense. But you'd like to think that if you're in the NFL coaching you've got legit taped on Nick Mullins. Now, the giants certainly know exactly what they can expect from Nick Mullins. I think from a talent standpoint as you mentioned that throw that you're talking about just I think they even said it on TV broadcasts as well. In the moment, he could tell he just didn't have the arm strength at least on that individual throw in. It's a hard throw. That's why at the Columbine every every quarterback that shows up to the Columbine. They asked him to throw that deep out route because they wanna see if you know from one hash can you throw fifteen yards on a rope to the to the opposite side line. It's difficult throw. But the elite quarterbacks make it and the not elite quarterbacks don't in the one place. You can't leave it as you mentioned is inside. Nick Mullins kinda got away with one last week against the bad raiders defense. But now that it's been shown the New York Giants are obviously seeing that ain't gonna force a lot of those those receivers into the middle of the field and say go ahead, you know, or excuse me. Try try to keep those receivers from out of the inside of the field. Put defenders in the middle of the field and say if you're going to beat us you're gonna make throws outside with the hashes you need to make them down the field. And we're going to force you to continue to show us that you can do this. Because right now, it's too early to say if he legit Ken. Can the Niners really continue any of the defense of success against the giants? This is of course, a giants team that drafted a generational talent and saquon Barkley, of course, a running back that has helped them win. So many games wins above replacement are of course, the preeminent running back stat. And you can put at least what like six wins on saquon Barkley shoulders. That's that's how this works. Is. That is that what's happening. That's exactly how it works. Yep. Yeah. So basically, you've got the all jokes aside. The giants do have talent on offense. It's not at the quarterback position. But it is that the wide receiver position. And while I disagree with dropping someone like Barkley that high overall. He is still a talented running back. Do you think that the giants are going to have more success in the raiders on offense? And to do you think that the Niners defense will be able to hold that offense at bay enough to be able to kind of give Mullen some breathing room in order to give him, you know, kind of some. Some space to actually not play behind them scoreboard for so long. I think the giants will definitely find more success from the raiders in. That's just from a superstar perspective saquon Barkley generational talent Oto Beckham junior. When on his game is elite Evan anger him. The giants tight end is actually a solid receiving tight end in the second year in the league still kind of improving, but overall there are some more pieces there, I think if ectively the that the New York Giants can exploit I do at the same time think that Nick Mullins starts. Fortunately are coming at the same time that the forty Niners of playing bad opponents, and that includes offensively bad opponents. The New York Giants still are putting ally manning under center, and he's well past his prime doesn't look particularly good..

"And so what do the middle of the field defenders look like for the giants. And are they any good? They're not in in to be succinct. Obviously they've got other concerns on the defense as well. And as you mentioned if Becher decides to play a lot of man coverage or to really try to take away the middle of the field. He's going to have to send help because right now the players that the the New York Giants have over the middle of the field or not particularly good. I think this is another game where George Kittle plays really, really. Well, particularly because the New York Giants have Alec Ogle tree and BJ Goodson at linebacker and particularly Ogle tree. I've been on him since he was with the Rams I think he is a he is remarkably overrated in really it's it's all because of a hard knocks with the Rams, and they did wonderful job of hyping him up because they've got to create a. Storyline somehow and not surprisingly, she soon as Sean McVay gets there. He finds a way to get Alec Oba SRI out of there. He simply not very good. And and he does a wonderful job of appearing to be good in in sort of his around the ball a lot. But he makes what I like to call sort of cleanup tackles, which is not a linebacker that fills downhill sits in the gap at the line of scrimmage. It makes tackles this is a linebacker that makes tackles six or seven yards down the field after he's already missed. And so he's in technically getting tackle stats in the numbers might look good. But they're wildly inflated by generally four play right now. He just sat out there last game. He's hurt. But the they're sort of backups aren't particularly good either J Goodson the couple years in the league. But overall a very underdeveloped player. And then the other players that they'll play will be rookies as well. So overall in terms of match up advantage just player to player in where the forty Niners can find success over the middle of the field. I I have to participate this Shanahan is licking his chops. And some of these throws might not be directly tied to over the middle. But when those players can't you mentioned Leon hall earlier being able to drop into that that sort of hooked coverage zone and moons being able to throw a ball over him. A really impressive throw. He might not even have to make quite as impressive throws this week. Because those players those underneath players if they're these inside linebackers for the New York Giants, they can't get the they just they are not going to be able to run with George Kittle almost anywhere on the field. And I think the forty Niners if they're looking at a match up that they can exploit whereas Becher might say, okay. We're going to be able to sort of scare this rookie effective rookie, obviously, not a rookie. But more more or less. Nick Mones is a rookie a new player getting on the field facing a blitz and facing some pressure to try and throw him off his game, the forty Niners going to be able to counter that by going directly at the New York Giants inside linebackers, and what's interesting about Molins game against the raiders is that he really had. Success on in the middle of the field. He didn't really have a ton of throws out on the edges and the when you look at his throws on the edge of specifically in the intermediate areas so ten to nineteen yards outside the numbers. He didn't complete a pass he was offered to to the left side and over two on the right side. A lot of his damage was done in the short area of the field or in the middle of the field. And that's where I think if I were Becher I would probably force Mullins to the edges to the outside, especially if you're going to test his arm. I mean, there was a play that was incomplete that Mullins through in the in the raiders game. Where I mean, it was probably a little too far inside. It looked like it just didn't have enough zip to get out there to the outside shoulder for the wide receiver. And if I'm a defensive back, I'm licking my chops. Because if you throw if you try to throw in outside route, and the only place you can't throw that ball is inside if you're gonna miss miss out wide, and it was a little on the inside..

"And it just in my opinion serves as a reminder that cow Shanahan. He's still in that top tier of not just offense of coaches, but have head coaches and in with even average talent he's able to. You know on the go and mid season continued to adapt and continue to make sure that his scheme is successful, which is really really difficult in the NFL where every team is fielding elite player, you know, above average players sands. Maybe the the Cleveland Browns from time to time. Now, this is still a bad Oakland team rather than we're not sitting here and saying that Shannon is ready to take the next step into being like the taking the team the Super Bowl or something. But I think it is important for teams to beat up on teams that they are better than when you're a good team. And we talked about this during the Harbaugh years, you should be able to beat and dunk on the teams that you were clearly better than it's when you then go up against the team that is equally talented or more talented that things get a bit more fifty fifty and in that kind of difficult I could win. Maybe I don't win kind of range. But ideally, the next that for this team is not to go eleven and four or ten and six, but it's to start convincingly and consistently beating team. Games where they are at either a coaching or talented advantage. And hopefully that talented advantage becomes a bit greater soon. But right now, I think the Niners have a clear coaching advantage for several teams in the NFL. And that I think is what showed in the game against Oakland. It absolutely did in. Once this talent is able to sort of match other top rosters in the league. In particularly looking at the indecision rival saints or excuse me. Rams the saints in a conference as well. But not not in division there. But nonetheless, those two teams for roster perspective seem to have better talent when the forty Niners are able to match some of those teams is exciting to think about what caution hand might be able to do. All right now, let's talk a little bit about spotlight players because then I've got one on defense and you've got one on offense. And while we're not talking a huge amount about the defense in the the recap of the Oakland game. Because Mullins mania was definitely the story. I do think it's important to highlight one, Mr. Dakota Watson every time. I think of this name I just think of that scene in coming to America as like crown heights. Ole miss the Randy Watson, that's what that's how I want to say. His name all the time to coda Watson. Putt. He basically completely abused, whomever. The raiders put out at left tackle. He had two sacks four hurries six total pressures. He showed speed around the edge power to go through offensive linemen. And even showed a spin move. That was a counter that was pretty effective actually had the offensive lineman. Not trip them. This was Dakota Watson's I came back from injury. And he played really really well again talent needs to be kind of put into or this needs to be put into context when he was going up against. A raiders team that looks like they've just flat out given up. But I do think the coulda Watson's definitely going to be someone. I'm watching against the New York Giants because if he can continue this performance, we may have found an edge rusher that can provide a spark where the Niners have had no spark edge rusher up to now. They really haven't in a reminder that Dakota Watson also is a core special teamer. So, you know, year one two three maybe of this rebuild..

"But on those six blitzes he completed four passes of those six for eighty five yards, which was fourteen point two yards per attempt and one touchdown based on PF gray that was his highest graded split, which I think is is important to note because that's the one thing that's J Beathard did which was hold onto the ball too long. And honestly even Jimmy Garoppolo who had a remarkably quick processing speed and release time in the last five games of last season. Didn't really display that I think as much as we would have liked at the beginning of twenty eight. Eighteen so I think of Nick Mullins can continue to process the game as quickly as he did against the raiders. I think that bodes well for continuing to manage the game not make too many mistakes because he did have some turnover worthy throws. But I think overall that's the kind of consistency that you would want. And if Nick Mones is able to do this for the rest of the year, I think it's pretty clear that he becomes the backup to Jimmy Garoppolo. And with the amount of tape that he would have you could flip them in a couple of years for traffic. I think that's always been sort of the plan to in regards to CJ Beathard is let's develop these guys once they signed Jimmy Garoppolo long-term. That's obviously this sort of the go-to guy figure out who's going to be the long-term starter in in in any excuse me, the long-term backup in any case. You know, all of these guys get to the NFL by being ultracompetitive? They want to be starters. If you can if Shanahan can get enough on tape for Nick Mullins, CJ Beathard who whoever it is to flip them even for a sort of. You know, sort of to compensate what they spend at least on CJ Beathard in in the first in the first place, even even better, but to identify a potential long-term backup that could win games when called upon we had this as a couple of weeks ago. I think in regards to CJ Beathard in, you know, very few backup quarterbacks in the league are able to just kind of get inserted into the offense. And suddenly, you know, play like the starter never left. I mean, there's a reason that there's only thirty two starters in the NFL in. Sometimes I'd venture to say that we don't even have that many right now, but to have a reliable backup that may never actually be legit starter, but sort of adds, some consistency. Entrust their gives the forty Niners some leverage in comfort knowing that especially right now, if they're really trying to maximize or what appears to be, you know, when when John Lynch in Kashan in signed with with organization seemed like all right? We're going to really make a push this thing a backup quarterback. Hell. As we saw last year with the Philadelphia Eagles in having somebody that can get in there. And at least run the offense at a solid level is sometimes enough for for a good offensive coach to make successful. But it wasn't just the quarterback who had success against Oakland. There were also other parts of the team that had success against a a hapless raiders mandate. They are they're fully embracing the the full tank, but one of the areas, of course, that had some success was the forty Niners receivers they took advantage of about opponent and had one of their better games of the year. They really did in as much as the story line is about Nick Moen's. I think what the forty Niners receiving core did specifically to get open. And then maximize yards after catch was really really impressive on a short week where you know, guys bodies. Just don't feel right overall. They had an eighty three point two team receiving grade from PF, which is very high. That's over nine points higher than their second. The second best game that they've played this year which goes against the chargers, ironically, another or the chargers a solid solid defense. Good team playing well, but the forty Niners receivers did play fairly well against them earlier in the year the yards after catch though. And this is sort of ties into our discussion with Nick Mullins in regard. Nick Mullins Nick Molins threw for a total of two hundred and sixty two passing yards. But specifically between pure Garson Richey James in George Kibble, one hundred sixty two of their receiving yards came after yards or were yards after the.

"But overall what Nick Mullins did was he played average or at the expected level for an NFL quarterback and against the really really crappy defense and with a coordinator and someone creating off. Offense at the degree in school level to which Shanahan creates the offense. This is what you get. And that doesn't mean that Nick Mullins is phenomenal. It's a fun story. It's a great story. But this is base level offense if Shanahan has a quarterback that can execute. I would agree. I would also add that I think this highlights more. So some of CJ Beathard shortcomings in not that CJ Beathard is not a backup quarterback in the league. I think he's showing that he's good enough to do that. When Nick Mullins did do. Well, I thought was an I think some of this has to do with the fact that he like you mentioned that context that he's a third string quarterback. He recognizes. He's a third string quarterback. Right. These guys they have to go out and sort of make these wild plays. If he wants to keep his job because sort of sticking around on the practice squad and just being affective inefficient. There is never gonna give him the opportunity to ascend into either make the fifty three man roster long-term or eventually maybe not what the forty Niners, but to earn a starting position somewhere. What I thought he did. Well, was he took some risks? Is that a long-term sort of franchise quarterback? Jimmy Garoppolo might not even take the same risks because this sort of half to right? What's the worst that happens with with Nick Mullins if he doesn't play well in the game against the raiders that everybody goes always his third string quarterback Cal Shanahan's working with his backups backup? What could they possibly do? Nick Mullins doesn't have any career starts. He wasn't even drafted. You know, all these reasons for him not to be successful. Whereas when he succeeds, it's, you know, now, there's this national storylines. There's really not a whole lot of loss potential there for Nick Mullins to really rip the ball. In n let it go particularly the throat, George Kittle, which was a remarkable play more. So from Kittles perspective because I think maybe ten receivers whether it's titan or receivers, I think ten receivers may be in the league are willing to actually run over the middle like that in that traffic in space and still even put a hand out to potentially make a catch with what seemed to be sort of imminent contact. But the fact that Nick Mones through that ball is pre PR. Pretty wild. I don't know that there's many legit starting quarterbacks in the league that are gonna routinely try to make that throw. And instead, they might, you know, look look to sort of make the save check down throw Nick Mullins with nothing to lose. Probably not a great decision off, you know, sort of falling backwards, but let it rip nonetheless. I think as you mentioned this was more about what Kyle Shanahan can do with even average quarterback play an average offensive talent aside from George Kibble and his ability to when they recognize or when they play a bad team to just maximize everything in full throttle people..

"Apprecia- and this week. It is a win Wednesday, and it's actually Tuesday because we're coming at you from the past it's Tuesday voting day, and it went Wednesday. It's all of amazing this smashed up into one day that is not following any rules of the space time continuum and with me as always is co host, Mr. Jerod Brown Jared. How are you doing today? I'm doing good a day earlier than normal but excited to get at it earlier than normal. Thanks to the Thursday night game in in a little bit of an extended break for the forty Niners to at a good time. That's exactly right. So before we get into the final battle of the ban the game recap. I'm super interested to hear about how you're going to vote on I think prop seven because that's the daylight savings time one, right? I believe that is in. I you know, I've thought about it a little bit because Aaron is one of the places that doesn't do it. There are some drawbacks in both cases, particularly as a teacher. It's kind of nice right now when I go to school in the mornings that it's light out whereas just two weeks ago. I was getting to school rolling around six thirty or so kinda prepping and do an early bird stuff and his dark out and just sort of sets a sort of ominous tone. So I actually kinda dig setting falling back a little bit. So that I get the little bit of daylight in the morning. But I also understand wanting to keep it lighter a little later. It outta here with this politician answer. This non answer answer. It. You can't say both are. Okay. I I'm pinning it down in honor of voting day highly diplomatic. I think I I'd vote to keep it. Oh, man. Yeah. To get rid of it. Get rid of I'm I'm voting from afar with spirit only for California stuff because I'm over here voting in Texas elections, but it wasn't deed the battle of the bay. I have got a Turpin dream APA in American pale ready to go because that game was indeed a dream. I mean, we said at the beginning or in our preview we said the best quarterback is going to win. We just had no idea that best quarterback was going to be McMullan's yet. I did not see that. Come. I mean, I don't know that anybody saw it coming maybe perhaps accept Kyle Shanahan or assumed that he could make it happened on the less, but Nick Molins played. Not not lights out. But better than what the raiders could get their quarterback to play a whether that's coaching whether that's scheme. Whether that's other players around him either way. Nick woolens was the best quarterback on the field. And as a result. Like we thought the forty Niners came out on top pretty impressive while the forty Niners. Do indeed win the final battle of the bay the forty Niners one maybe their most complete game of the Cal Shanahan era. Their highest offensive output of two thousand eighteen thirty four points tied for their third highest offensive output overall in the collar Shanahan era. Of course, the Jaguars forty four points was tops Rams with could O'Brien Hoyer thirty nine points. And then the Rams again and that meaningless week seventeen game thirty four points the forty Niners defense had eight sacks. They are now tied Jared get this. They're not tied for seventh in the NFL. With twenty four sacks on the back of that aid sack performance and they had to turnovers in the game that plus two turnover margin incident. Really tied for the second highest total and the highest attorney over margin in the Shanahan era. Actually, that's surprising. Just because I don't generate a turnovers but overall in terms of a complete game. This was as big and as complete of a game as the forty Niners have ever put together in the Cal Shanahan era. And it took a pretty hapless Oakland Raiders team in order to do it. Typically, the forty Niners..

"Packers patriots Sunday night Rogers Brady put. Electric. Show said unicorn talk leading this. Here's Tom Brady. Get you really this isn't the Super Bowl. This isn't a playoff. What he told Jim gray of Westwood One. Did say he was excited for this one. What do you buy or sell Brady downplaying the importance? Thanks for coming to be reality. Tony I am selling what he said. This is a critical game for the patriots for both teams. Obviously the Packers need to stay in touch in that division. And the patriots are chasing the chiefs. They might have to go to that playoff game in Kansas City. They may not get to the Super Bowl if they lose this game at home. This is an important regular season game. Because as what he mentioned the Packers are third in the NFC north right now it matters. Whether they win the game. But what doesn't matter. What happens between these two guys whether or not will affect how we see them. We're not going to change how we feel about Brady if he loses it doesn't take waive his brings and we're not going to change how we feel about Rogers. Could we're always gonna blame the team and coach around him for what he doesn't win. It's just a fun game to watch. This is truthful arrogance coming from Tom Brady, look he plays to go to Super Bowls Aaron Rodgers trying to get the Packers back into the playoffs for the first time in a couple of season. So he's absolutely right. That this is neither a Super Bowl nor a playoff. Yeah. Just Brady being smart. He doesn't want the attention on him or the team. He wants to call me, the low-key, and yours is going to be crazy enough as it is. This is why he gets the super bowl's 'cause he doesn't treat every game. Yoed out make a pick for the game. Will you got backers? Patriots. That's inanimate for four. All right. We'll move on by herself. Two. Got a motor the Bob. Firecracker? Magic Johnson was calling Luke Walton into his office following the Lakers win this two game road trip. Magic reportedly admonished Walton in an aggressive tone over the team sluggish start painting a picture of rising pressure on Walton latchkey. This is your cat by herself pressure mouthing on Luke Walton, I'm buying it. It feels like the end is coming near it. Just feels like Luke never really had a chance. He wasn't magic guy. He wasn't LeBron's guy. Jeanie Buss supports in. But she pretty much get your franchise LeBron now LeBron's working in conjunction with this. And I think he deserves the chance he has. They were sixteen sixteen at the end of last year. He was bringing young players along it's hard to adjust with LeBron James team is hard to figure out where who knows where? But I don't think he's got shot. What do you think the time line is here? What are we looking at your how much time I have? If this pressure is the Lakers fired both Mike Brown and Del Harris really early in the season. They're not afraid to do. It could come at any time. Come anytime who come this weekend? Yeah. I don't think this weekend. But he could come. It could come before thanksgiving. What he paid makes no sense. I'm celebrate the guy has great roots. As in his basketball career is family and coaching with the warriors. And you're gonna give him a full chance because you didn't hive what are they gonna do out there? Bill. Bring back the high chair, Phil Johnston grand. Who you gonna get this better than him with young players? I lou. I don't know what he's arguing with since Bill said, he doesn't agree. I. He's dealing with suspensions. Injuries a player who has traditionally when joining a new team taken a long time for that team to adjust to his presence. He's shuffling lineups. Because he's trying to figure out the older veterans or the younger guys who fits the best. He's doing what he needs to do to try to figure out this team, the problem as Bill said, it's even if we don't agree with an even if it doesn't make sense it. Sure seems like he's nobody's guy and most notably LeBron. So they're gonna go find the Bronx guy caving the long jetty for Luke Walton was shortened as soon as LeBron James changed addresses in welled up Laker Ville, and we all know that..

"But we've got Rams and we've got seats. This is the one versus the two right now in the NFC undefeated team, and it's six one team, although everybody seeing Nick Mullins rear view mirror and getting a little panic leak may be catching up to the Rams or at least ask you. If you think that's the case three of the last four wins for LA been within a field goal Bill. We'll start with you who has advantage Sunday. And what is Rams have the advantage in the there already was stellar? They added Dante Fowler. They got a edge rusher. They needed their offense can be unstoppable. They've won big games on the road in places in Denver in Seattle. They can play in these conditions. There's better overall team in New Orleans. They have more weapons were ways to beat you. They got a coach that's all that's on the cutting edge. I'm taking a Rams filers plug in and play. And he's going to be good to go for. Yes. From the edge. Absolutely. What do you pay? I just don't understand Bill picking an LA team to win. You remember Bill? Good times. We've had a New Orleans, and you know, how long those to window every none of us. I want to hear more about that. What we're getting that going to commercial break. All right. Go ahead. The saints. The saints at home are invincible as far as I'm concerned, they rarely lose. They're they are number one. We know about girly. But the saints are number one. It gets run in the NFL this year. I got the best leading passer in the league this year. Drew brees. They've got a running game. They've got wide receivers. I think this is a bigger game to the saints because the Rams can lose. And you know, they've had three games to two and three they've won by. They're ready to lose on the road. Sarahspain? They are in fact, Vincent because they're ten and eleven and their last eleven at home. So that's not invincible. But that being said the reason part of the reason they've been so good is because drew Brees is getting unbelievable protection. He's only been sacked nine times this season, which is only more than last night in one game. But it's also one fewer than Aaron Donald sacks on the season. Which means that we might see some real pressure for. Drew brees. And I think until the Rams lose a game and actually full on lose a game. They will always be my favourite even in New Orleans. Give it absolutely. I mean, there's no evidence to suggest that the Rams would not win. This won't win this game. Bill pointed out, they have a better offense Bill went out. They have a better defense. And what no one point out is guess what they also have bettle better special teams top five in the league in that category right now, and they're playing what they world of confidence. And even if girly is taken out of the game somehow by by the same. They still have weapon. Okay. Speaking of a world of confidence. It sounds like the trip in Baton Rouge or New Orleans wherever you guys that pledge skied and paid shared in some confident moments. I wanna hear about this. We'll go to break here by yourself. Play for fifteen just get to the good stuff. Please go ahead and go what I hear about it. No. I can't I can't even begin to go. There. Don't remember. Neither. All right. We'll take a break your cellular side. So Bill I said put on a pair of my name.

"Let's talk catty the question have you ever seen the number three team in the country? A two touchdown underdog at home. True story. Nixon was asked to be would kick a receive. And he said he hopes to kick ass. Woody what would LSU tomorrow to pull off the upset on Alabama? And if they do if they do what would it mean for college football? It'd be great because football they'd also jumped Clemson would be number one in the next poll and in in the national championship situation. But I think that in order to win you gotta take advantage of a Saturday night in Baton Rouge, anybody that's ever been with. No that that crowd with tiger cage. You don't wanna get anything close to either one of those? And Secondly, here's the got it survive the first half because they're going to miss their best defensive player white who was suspended for targeted. That's yet. Another stacked up again, they've got two first round draft picks in the secondary a, greedy and grant. And it's those guys can get interception our turnover, and and keep it close because I know this is not gonna make sense. But in the fourth quarter, Alabama being outscored this year. I know it's against four three players. In the fourth quarter as to even played in the fourth quarter. So when you're up sixty points, that's some place. You're never in this show. What he page. Maybe take you off the pedal. We'll bit sarahspain how about you. Yeah. Anybody says saying that is ignoring the fact that they're so far ahead in the fourth that they don't need to put their best players. And that's why they're being outscored more importantly what they need to do on offense is be patient with their run. Let the clock run down to keep their defense fresh and keep the ball out of his hands as much as possible. The one defensive issue of bama's been having been with past place to running back. So they need to push that and keep keep the clock running defensively. They're secondary is so good. They don't put a lot of pressure on teams. But they need to put pressure on to us. So they need to take some chances defensively actually press on that front frontline Kaby Alabama. Nick Sabin has played their games in death valley of all been pretty close. So to me that means what you need to do. In order to win is to create some turnovers. You gotta hope that that death valley crowd rattles tool a little bit. Maybe get a pick. Maybe you can. Flip the field. Maybe you can get a fumble recovery or something like that you need some sort of momentum. But the reason that is such a big discrepancy in this point differential from the odds makers because that's how good this Alabama team is unbelievable talent and the town. But it sounds like you're saying the games at LSU have always been close in this robbery. And maybe if you were putting something on this game would be leaning towards LSU pick. That not that brave. So how about you? How about you heaven you wouldn't take LSU in two touchdowns? I'll take LSU to win outright in this game. The waiting for somebody who won the race go round. They eighty four the last night seven games down there. They play tremendously at home to Alabama's only faced one defense in the top forty this year LSU is ranked seventh offensively I love, greedy Williams against two. And I love Joe borough in this situation and all the Alabama is has a little bit of we against the run. You can run against them. LSU run the ball control the clock off the field. Coach wins game. Go tigers. Okay. Clash she convince anybody hear what he paid sarahspain. No, no. I would just tell you savings been there five times. He's won four those games. But none of the hill have been over the over ten points. So. Kevin Kevin's hip to that. But it's okay. All right. Sarah. You're an absolute no, no else you in this game for you. They're not winning. All right. We'll move on NFL games in the week or two of them. Are just incredible Packers patriots. We'll talk about that one by herself..

"Bill flash ski what he paid Sarah Spain and Kevin Blackstone for the last time in this reality today. Little matter of how far LSU dick Nolan's fescue being forty Niners history or best QB ever ever. Speaking of goat's Brady, verse Rogers, and really speaking of goat's Simone, biles doing the single greatest athletic achievement in the history of sport. One last time without be mentioned a reality. Let's go around the horn. Are you guys ready money today? This show better. Here's Tony really we start with the Nick Mullins revolution. It was televised to sixty three passer rating over one fifty so good. Last night is Twitter account was Berith mid gate Kyle Shanahan, and you'll never know until you see someone that is incredible advice. That is incredible life advice fake that people and have a good weekend. The six most exciting version sports going forward CD better. Nick Mones QB controversy. Also, the raiders, Sarah. Let me ask you. This was moans that good over the raiders. I don't wanna take anything away from him because you could put up a bunch of guys and have their first NFL start not result in at one fifty one point nine passer rating the game he put together that being said he was only pressured on four of twenty two dropbacks any only through zero passes and debate windows, meaning that raiders defense stinks. He still stepped up its. It's still an amazing story. But he was certainly not facing the most terrifying of opponents last night. Devon, black stone out of your view moans. Not only was it. Not the most terrifying. It was actually the most terrible passed in the NFL. They lead the league in allowed yards per attempt, which means nobody's ever around anybody that they're supposed to be covering their twenty ninth and touchdown surrendered through the air. So what you saw last night was par for the course with the raiders pass defense. So give credit to Mullins for hitting his open targets. But unfortunately, have to give them an Asterix because of who was playing against Bill Plachy. Yeah. I really so much want to give credit to this guy. What is so such a great story? You see him crying after the game? Do the stories about him credit working out piping? He was calling. Yeah. You know? But it's the raiders. And they didn't even you're saying. Satistics the easiest a life or quarterback in any game this season in differ for the entire league. So I just don't see how anything statistically Friday is the easiest show to score points at around the horn. And you don't see me raining on your parade. Nobody page you have more Friday wins than anybody in around the history. Should we put an asterisk on? All those no not at all. And I don't want take you away from him. And then you took stuff away. We got to Bill punishment going no fit spot that made you about defense. Oh, by let me talk about Molin does the only only panelists here who's ever been to Hattiesburg, Mississippi and covered games for Mississippi..

"Nick Mullins got zero dollars and zero sense. He was not supposed to make it last night was not supposed to happen last. That was exactly what we're supposed to happen for the raiders though. This is what they've been trending towards. This is what they have been trying to do. This is what happens when you are selling off parts at rapid pace, Jon Gruden aka the value. God. Has been trying to strip this thing down and build it back up yesterday. Took an interesting turn some sitting around. And we all we have this interview the Jon Gruden did. With FOX on Wednesday and. Just listen to what Jon Gruden says. And we'll digest it together. If you haven't heard this before this is Jon Gruden doing interview with FOX from Wednesday talking about players wanting to be Oakland, Raiders, I got a cell phone just like you and everybody else I get a lot of phone calls from people that are dying to commonplace here. I'm just telling their dying to play for the raise to have salary cap space and have a chance to talk to the people that you really want to wear the silver and black the guys you really want to where the silver black and represent this team. That's exciting. First and last here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app, man. Jon Gruden seems like he's going out of his way to make sure the guys that are on this current raiders roster know that he doesn't like them. Like, we hear all this time about coaches using the media to send a message to guys you better. Hope the Jon Gruden is the exact opposite that there is some sort of other worldly show of support going on behind closed doors, but this grown man football's the NFL, you don't have to go out to coddle anybody. But at the same time, these guys are smart they see in. No, their coach came from the media understands the media for the most part and to go out there and say this and know that it's going to get back to that locker when this I can't I can't wrap my head around this and Jon Gruden we've a media guy for the last number of years put as a football player and a football coach, I should say for a long time. This is baffling that is baffling because we're gonna we heard a lot last night about this raiders team quitting on Jon Gruden and the things that come in that territory when you're losing. And when you're trending this. Way. And when the tanking word keeps getting thrown around over and over again, all of that becomes natural in a certain way for this group. But hearing this Jon Gruden it seems like he's inviting it because what does this tell every player on this team? But you're probably not in our future plans either. We've sold off the best guys on our team to remind you in a very almost patriot esque way that you don't matter in our grand plans at this point. Now quitting a whole 'nother thing Darren Woodson are ESPN NFL analysts sportscenter yesterday and said that's not what's happening with this raiders group. There say watch Vilma say Gaza quitting on because he's a professional. These guys are out there again, they're not just playing for Jon Gruden. They're playing for everyone else. That's gonna be watching them throughout the process. It's about the lack of personnel that they have going through injuries. And they don't have any dynamic players that are out there making big place for this book ball team and today, they went out there. And like they played all all these last couple years dysfunctional with the lack of personnel. And this is what happened. And I tell you what Darren is writing this. And you're always cognizant, especially the guys that make up the meat of the bell curve at his roster that you're going to likely be playing season somewhere else in any given year to begin with. And you're always thirty one other teams are going to see this..
