"Independent in thoughts and punk rock in life. It's the Chad Benson show. Jeff sessions. The US attorney general is stepping down apparently at the request of President Trump issuing a letter of resignation of move not unanticipated they became a frequent punching bag of the president for his decision to recuse himself from the Russia campaign influence investigation. It was intimidated he might step down after the midterms. And in fact, the president confirming that by tweet just a short time ago. Yeah. Apparently, it was Kelly who called him and said, you gotta get outta here. Gotta go. You used yourself. Why did you do that out of year? Get it. Now what happens? That's that's going to be very interesting. So sessions is out, and it was very interesting to watch tonight him exit the building. So he gets a call today. I mean all the stuff happened yesterday. And then, you know, the people still debating all this the blow away the reds held their position. And they're doing the usual talking head stuff on the on the news and all of that is going on. And by the way, when all that is going on during the day. I let you guys know. I was watching the purge on Hulu, which is a show that I really enjoy. So we all this stuff is going on. He's still in the department of Justice is still in the building, and he leaves, and it was kind of surreal nearly one hundred and fifty guesses employees standing and applauding attorney general sessions. You left the department? He shook hands with other top officials, including deputy attorney. General rod Rosenstein, who's in charge of the Mueller investigation, and now acting Torney general Matt Whitaker whose publicly criticized that probe. It's unclear what would occur will do with the Russian Trump investigation now that he's in charge. So I don't know what's going to happen. I don't and that's really. What a lot of people taking our the he wanted to get rid of it. Because now he can go after and he's got a guy's going to put in his place, and they're already calling for him to be to recuse himself. And and and look so much of this is Trump is going to be lap. If we've not learned anything is that Trump's gonna be loud. He's going to be angry. He's good say some stuff and some of it's not out of anger. It's about a reactionary thing to see if he can get a reaction. I you more than anything else. But what we do know is that if you really wanted this thing stopped he could have done it, months, and months and months and months ago, even said that I he knows there's nothing there. Now, I could be completely off base. And if I am I completely apologize. I am a human being. But based on the people I've talked to. There isn't really anything there. There doesn't mean. The people won't believe because people on the left are always gonna believe that he's done something dirty and people on the right, or if something was to come out of this. There was always going to believe this deep state, and that's what we're going to hear. Now. It's one of those things where. Trump today decided we're past this. He wants to reset some of his cabinet. Everybody knew this was coming. The worst kept secret did people think it maybe would have lasted a couple more weeks, potentially months, potentially. Yeah. But what happened today will last night? The house was taken over by the Democrats. Right. So there's dams they got the house back. Today. He goes out. He gives bizarre entertaining. Wacky wild press conference that included almost a just a surreal scene with him Jim cost, and we'll touch on that a little bit. Well, all of that is going on right? Behind the scenes while he's even answering of these questions. He's instructed Kelly call him and tell him his ass. Yep. So out egos within ten minutes of that. And then debating how horrible this thing was with him, and Jim Kostin and once again Trump's back to back to doing what he's doing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah with all of that happening. What ends up happening? The news cycle changes. We're not talking about the election. We're not talking about some of the states. Some of the Senate seats are still out there. There are still racist. That are still going on that could potentially impact. Some of those things are happening. The Blue Wave didn't come didn't materialize. But they get back the house, but all of that is gone. And now what is it? It's russia. Russia russia. It's Muller Muller Muller. It's Trump Trump Trump. It is not. Democrats Democrats Democrats Democrats. Changed pivot look over here. Look over here. Look over here here. This is my hand. This is my hand the other. There's the car was this your card. Oh, it was. It's the joker. Oh cheese. Now, he puts his own person there who can could potentially clip Muller's wings, take his budget away bottle up a report that suddenly those Democrats that are sitting there now taking power in the house of representatives might want at some point. Yeah. And I think what's going to happen. If anything is they're gonna push people. He also got a situation where he was looking at the news and seeing a lot of exit polls across the country saying that they're over and tired of the Russian thing and the investigations gone onto long and they're over. I think Muller didn't do this sooner. And I think he's gonna come out sooner than later with his findings because he didn't want to be James Komi. He didn't want to be seen as somebody who potentially influenced an election. And now that that's gone. I think things will speed up, and I think over the next coming week two three months, we'll we'll find some stuff out. And I wouldn't be surprised if before the end of the year right after the end of the year. This thing is is is done. This thing is done. But it was well played for all of the stuff that we talk all the wacky craziness. This isn't stuff where when I say at times Trump's playing chess and other people are playing checkers troops at idiot. Moron. And everybody's got that same kind of thing that they do they throw it out because you don't like him. And he's he's an idiot. You could barely read. And they say thanks, and I say but all day now, the thunder has been taken away by who. Trump and doing this. That's it. Period case closed. This was coming for a while a lot of people knew that. And they've got they've got a history. Remember sessions. August two thousand fifteen. Not but a few weeks after that fateful escalator trip down and I'm running for president. He's onstage. He's doing everything. He can to get this guy elected. He leaves his Cush job for this and from day one. And I don't know if sessions knew that it was going to be like this. Let's be real. I said it was going to be chaos all the long once he became president. Like if you're not watching any of this stuff. It's chaos. He loves chaos. But by then you're into D. Now, you go and you get a job with Trump. You kind of know what to expect you're going to have both your interview and you're filling out your paperwork for HR. And they're having the accident of you at the same time. So you kind of know that this thing isn't gonna be long lived. You're not going to buy a house here. No. It's not going to happen that way. So this wasn't a surprise. It was a win and the wind came, but he did take the new cycle and shake it up on a day. When a lot of people thought, it was gonna be about elections. Did did the Democrats do enough? And what are they gonna do from here, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He took that new cycle away in. Two quick moves. I've just heard the news. But I'd say this protecting. Muller and his investigation is paramount. It would create a constitutional crisis. If this were a prelude to ending or greatly limiting the Muller. Investigation and limiting is that was the biggest issue. I think Trump if sessions, and I still think they would have found some he would have found some reason to get rid of him. But I think if sessions. Would have put parameters on what Muller could. And couldn't do they'll, you know, the cavenaugh thing. Remember, what Trump came out what he's talking about cabinet and other people inside of the Republican party said it is going to be a limited in scope, even Jeff flake who wanted the whole cavenaugh probe and Christine blazey four and all this stuff is he wanted it limited scope, which means he didn't want an open end where you can speak to every human being who ever met this guy who has nothing to do with the case in hopes that somehow that you could find something else about them. And I mean, that's the issue that a lot of people on the right of complained about all long as there was no real kind of. Hey, this is the lane right here. You can go all the way over to here. You can go all the way over to here. But that's it. It's about Russia. Russia Russia, all of the other stuff that doesn't matter. This is what it's about. And that was the frustration. I think Trump had a lot of other people had about this. So we'll see we'll see what happens, but like that change of the news cycle and the thunder that the Democrats thought maybe they would have at least through part of the cycle. And where everything was going today Pelosi's onstage Schumer's out there doing he's just like I'll take that under and that thunder right there. Thank you so much for participating three two three five three eight twenty four twenty three at Chadbensonshow Twitter. You could tweet at us. Trump links yanking John Brennan's security clearance to Russia probe
"The president tonight quoting one of his supporters who. Appeared on Fox News. John Brennan is a stain on the country. We deserve better than this from the briefing room. Earlier today, here is how the White House press secretary laid out the reasons for stripping Brennan's clearance while threatening to take similar action against other Trump critics. Any benefits that senior officials might glean from consultations with Mr. Brennan are now outweighed by the risks posed by his erotic, conduct and behavior. Mr. Brennan has recently leveraged his status as a former high ranking official with access to highly sensitive information to make a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations whiled outbursts on the internet and television about this administration. As part of this review, I'm valuating action with respect to the following individuals. James Clapper, James Comey, Michael Hayden, Sally Yates, Susan Rice. Andrew McCabe Peter Struck Lisa page and Bruce or not only are they all Trump crew. Some of those under evaluation are closely tied as you know to the Russia investigation our own Andrea Mitchell reports. The president's own director of national intelligence. Dan Coats was not aware in advance of today's announcements announcement nor were other senior intelligence officials. The White House was asked for evidence that John Brennan had actually somehow abused his clearance, but declined to provide any. Have any reason to believe or evidence to suggest Brennan has misused classified information or monetize access to as was alleged earlier by this ministry. Again, I'm laid out the reasons for the decision that was made on this specific instance. We'll continue to review the other actions manager, absence of you not saying those things you didn't find it? No, I would make any assumptions. I'm telling you what the decision was based off on. In this case today statement, pulling Brennan security clearance was dated July twenty six. That was a big indicator that it was standing by on the skids ready for weeks and was pulled out and announced just today. John Brennan is famously one of the stone cold faces in that photo taken in the White House situation room. The night, Osama bin Laden was killed. Finding bin Laden was a huge part of his job and his life's work after nine, eleven Phil Rucker of the Washington Post. Put this out tonight. It shows Brennan's major postings in his decades of. Service to this country, much of clandestine CIA station, chief Saudi Arabia CI station chief director of terrorist threat integration center director of national counterterrorism center, White House, homeland security adviser. CEA director briefed three presidents earlier Brennan himself spoke by phone with our colleague, Nicole Wallace. I do believe that Mr. Trump decided to take this action. She's done with others to try to intimidate him suppress any criticism of him or his administration. And we've, oh ki my security clearances is is way of trying to get back at me and this is not going to turn me at all. I'm going to continue to speak out. I think he fears individuals who could damage him damage his his standing on the American people look at the way he's been referring to Muller Muller who is a national treasure. And I common within the law enforcement and Justice communities who's doing his level best to investigate Russian interference in the election and the denigration of Bob Muller as well as his team of investigators is is reprehensible. I think Mr. Trump is getting more and more concerns were more desperate. I would say more and more frightened as there is a closer and closer magnification of some of the things that those around him have been involved in just a short time ago tonight to other Intel chiefs, who's clearances are under review also spoke out. The White House just messaged the entire American intelligence community. If you stand up and say, things that upset the president or with which he disagrees, he will punish you. And that is a horrible message to be sending to folks who are there to tell you objective truth, the bigger issue here, Chris to me is what this implies the implications of this for the first amendment. And the other question I have is, where does this end? Both of those two gentlemen have fifty plus years

Often the case, in today's politicized Justice department Rosenstein was trying to, make a different political point are you ready If people who have formerly charged. Are presumed innocent Then people who have not been accused And implicitly Rosenstein was talking about Trump must. Also be presumed innocent what you see you can't make that point without stepping, on the political purpose of Friday's charade but, it's true if Russia is presumed innocent if they're, going, to be given our constitutional protections they're they're presumed innocent until we proved their guilty and they'll never be proved guilty. Because there will never be a trial then If the if the, people charged are are presumed innocent then people, not named have to be presumed innocent and Trump, was, not named so Trump has to be presumed innocent in Muller's indictment and Rosenstein made another telling remark at the press. "Than more the evidence includes thousands of documents volving us residents not charged with crimes who prosecutors say were unwittingly recruited by russian defendants and co conspirators to engage in political activity in the us prosecutors wrote well that's not a big deal i mean so what so you turn that over and their unwitting accomplices that nobody knows about and you know that didn't commit any crime because they'd note didn't knowingly do anything wrong then then they're fine let the defense so according to power line they said i don't think anyone including muller anticipated that any of the defendants would appear in court to defend against the charges rather the molar prosecuting team seem to have obtained the indictment to serve as public relations for public relations purposes laying out the case for interference as understood by the government and lending the veneer of responsibility to muller switch project so essentially they're saying muller muller set up this indictment to add weight to his argument that there was some sort of conspiracy it but the problem is one of the one of the company said yeah we didn't do this and we're going to show up in court and you're gonna have to produce evidence saying that we did in showing how we did and now molars san may wanna do that maybe i was wrong maybe we'd hide this evidence there's stuff that we can't allow them to see oh sure it was stuff that we intended to charge them with its crimes we claim that they committed but we don't wanna show it to him it's isn't a mad scramble to put the brakes on the case muller's team tried to delay the trial saying that the concorde that concord never formally accepted the court summons related the case wrapping themselves in a cloud of confusion quote until the courts had an opportunity to determine if concord was properly served it would be inadvisable to conduct an initial appearance and arraignment in which important rights will be communicated and please entered the judge in the case did not buy it denying moeller and denying the high end and delay and any.

"And has been engaged me no position in the trump white house and has been humility me my whole life no i'll go to prison for him for decades so okay so this is in my opinion the prosecutors are doing something very smart here because they won't coen to talk and in order for coen to talk he needs to see that there's mounting evidence which means he's going to spend even more time in prison if he gets convicted and it's more likely he will cooperate with investigators and give them the information they need in regard to trump if he gets a better deal and he doesn't spend as much time in prison but here's the thing that i'm starting to have more and more difficulty with personally so all of this is being done in the hopes that eventually trump gets in trouble for potential ties to russia potential collusion all of that right but muller said that he cannot be indicted muller cannot press charges against trump is a sitting us president the only thing that muller could do is named trump as an anonymous coconspirator in the case so so republicans who control congress right now are not going to impeach trump they can't wait to his trump's but in anything that he does right and so this i feel like this is all for nothing no that is why as usual of the democratic party when they started on this venture and when i say they started on i don't mean the muller muller muller and they had an official investigation well before they had any idea to donald trump was going to win the presidency right the special counsel came later but the fbi started they muskie when they got credible evidence that the campaign was working with a foreign government so but the democrats after the election started the propaganda and the marketing campaign oh collusion that's why we lost hillary otherwise would won and about a la right so when they started that they never talked about money laundering that trump did right or could have done that's right have done that's all they talked about was oh the russian sent tweets and they hacked in and gave our email.

"I did and i thought those questions prepared by succo to give trump and idea of the kinds of things that muller would ask that's what i thought what happened there it's is is very unclear what exactly is going on other than that it was definitely someone at trump's legal team who leaked the stuff despite all that it was for muller muller was trying to position to harm trump no or leaks nothing muller is almost scarily impressive and how little i think i've seen like one reported like one thing so far that seemed like almost definitely a leak from the muller investigation what was that and that was a throwaway line in an article about giuliani being added to trump's legal team and it was like sources close smaller investigation say they are used by the addition of giuliani which sounds like could actually be someone motive team talking to someone who talked to someone and they're probably just like do this hilarious they got giuliani big on this now so other than that i have not seen anything that's for sure confirmed from them or the seems likely to come from them so what the question that is who had motivation to leak this mush themselves were possibly developed just by cycle but i think the justice they were developed following conversations between muller's team and the trump legal team that's pretty common so it before they have the you know more interview you'll go in and talk to the j and they'll say here's we talk to your client about here are the areas we're interested in here's the stuff that we'd like to talk to about once here and so the tourneys take notes they then put that into a document that client client says like okay i can answer that or not my guest that's what these questions come from they were stuff that muller in conversation with the the trump teen and then leak because they don't want you to happen and the best way to make sure.
ty cobb is out and emmet flood is in
"To hire veteran washington lawyer emmett flood who represented bill clinton during his impeachment to replace tie cobb according to the new new york times joining me larry lieber bloomberg news national security editor larry yet another shakeup in the trump legal team does the fact that it's the attorney who handled the impeachment for bill clinton signal anything well the white house isn't confirming the appointment yet but there's been a lot of talk about it as you said the times is reporting it i think it does signal first of all they'd get someone who is clearly an expert on the constitutional prerogatives of president and that would suggest someone who could help him limit or resist the interview with robert muller muller is seeking or to fight the potential subpoenaed appear before a grand jury he represented bill clinton matter he represented president george w bush in congressional inquires including an investigation of firing of seven us attorney so he would be a that sort of player ty cobb who left or is departing they're saying it's a sort of a normal retirement time for him but ty cobb was among those who had urged cooperation with the mueller investigation so we might be seeing a switch the president's tweets and otherwise suggesting that he's digging in and his legal advisors may be prepared to dig in let's listen to tie cobb as he talked about that possible interview with the president is certainly not off the table and people are working hard to make decisions and toward an interview that was from abc's powerhouse powerhouse podcast larry we talked you talked about emmett flood and during kenneth starr's investigation of president bill clinton prosecutors subpoenaed the president for a grand jury testimony and clinton's lawyers i assume emmett flood being among them agreed to let clinton appeared before the grand jury without a subpoena so is he really going to fight that hard when he's been down that path before apparently perjure himself by in regard to is relations with monica lewinsky that went off in a totally different direction which in the end maybe a cautionary you know on on side questions on your candor on where questions like this may lead so i'm not sure what lessons exhibit flood took from that but he is someone who clearly knows the presidential prerogatives and the debate over how to assert them because he he also represented george w bush and george w bush also testified or talk to special counsel so it seems as if perhaps he knows the lay of the land very well so larry explain how what role he's going to have as far as rudy giuliani who just joined the team a couple of weeks ago one of the things dow again assuming that it's good that he's going to sue me he takes tai carb's role technically tie cobb wasn't an unlike giuliani and others wasn't the president's personal attorney he represented the white house and the institution and a lot of that duty involves a responding or sometimes refusing respond to requests for documents and other duties of the office of the president but it's still a key role and so we may see him as a real player we may not see him negotiating directly with robert muller that may be handled by the president's personal attorneys but it's clear about whoever comes into that position and it looks like it will be at flood we'll be playing a very key role in what's what's right it's still a team in some turmoil and still a very small team it does appear as we've discussed that here is an attorney who doesn't who does have constitutional analogy of the issues involved and he's worked for presidents of both parties so he may be defending the principle as he sees it of a president's power more than the individual he certainly wellqualified by any standard that you that you measure an attorney by let's talk about the ratcheting up of the conversation this week about robert muller muller's interview of president trump or proposed interview of president trump and the possibility of a subpoena have you noticed how all of a sudden we've come from negotiating an interview to issuing a subpoena because of various news reports right in the reports though also suggest there's a lot going on here a by the president's attorneys advice visors aides to shape not only the public but his view you know the new york times published a list of questions from from what we understand the personal didn't come from all our has been very close mouthed but secondly it wasn't literally a list produced by muller it was list produced by trump's attorneys summarizing the issues that muller had discussed with them and the fact that came out suggests that maybe they were trying to push the president to some resolution which he digs in doesn't sit down for what could be an interview that would backfire so there's a lot going on behind the scenes and we're left f fortunately or unfortunately we're left to speculate but i sometimes are speculation has been right on the money is certainly yours is thanks so much larry larry lieber bloomberg news national security editor coming up on
