"By the time six days passes you didn't hour of cardio which isn't like lot over the course of six days but it is an hour and then the day of thanksgiving or the day after thanksgiving if you get an extra walk or something. It's kind of more just a bonus I do think it's good like out here. In bega We see tons of families outside walking. And i realized that other parts of the country It'd be much more difficult but don't be afraid to get weird and throw on some layers of clothes and go for fucking walk in the snow but it tries to encourage other people to go with you like make like make it like a thing. Make it like fun. You don't have to be outside forever just You know just try to get a little bit in a little bit can go a long way For myself recently i just started implementing a little bit of cardio Birthday number forty four has coming up on december tenth and phil heath is actually somebody that inspired me got me fired up to start to work on getting in better shape again Not that i was in bad shape. But i was like i can kick it up a notch. And when he announced he was doing the mr olympia. I'll shit i'm gonna kind of work on some of that as well like. I'm not gonna pretend. I'm doing the olympia. Necessarily gonna take it that far But i'm going to push a little harder than normal and so i started getting better shape few weeks ago. I really took my time with it. We're still the diet wasn't a hundred percent. It was probably more like Eighty percent and then. I just been kind of tweaking. It added a little bit of cardio but the first day i did cardio i just said do minutes of cardio you lazy bastard and i didn't even want to do ten minutes because i haven't done it in so long i'm like i don't get on a stairmaster. Whatever like i don't feel like doing. I don't want to do ten minutes of cardio mike. I'm already lean earning good shape. I'm making all these excuses. I'm like you should just go. So i was like all right. How about like just go on there for like three minutes you know. And this is. From james clear. The author of atomic habits he said Make what you're about to do so simple that it's almost impossible to say no to so. If you like dude just to fucking push up you know it's like it's pretty hard to talk yourself out of you know doing one push-up or doing a one set of bodyweight squats for twenty wraps or something. Like that i mean it's just it's it's too easy. It kind of makes it feel like a pussy. You're like you're disappointed in yourself before you even try it if if you're saying no to Doing cardio for three minutes. So i'll say just do three minutes. I got on there and of course. I'm not gonna do three minutes. So i did six minutes and then i left. That was it. I was like that's good. That's a good start. Next day i came back and did seven minutes before the workout. The problem is the six minutes i did. I did after the workout. So that's really why didn't wanna do it. But the next time i came in i did seven minutes before the workout seven minutes after the workout. Then the next time i came in i did ten minutes before the workout ten minutes and so forth and then i did twenty minutes straight the other day and i did thirty minutes so here we are. You know Five six days later. I've now strung together doing five five or six days in a row of some cardio training so you can suck today and not be doing shit and within four five days you could have strung together a streak of nearly a whole entire week's worth of doing something consistently they could change that quickly. Can you guys talk about like maybe the the the mindset when it comes to You know so. Gyms are closing down if not already wherever everyone is but also even just in general like You know my wife is off this week. Jasmine my daughter's off this week I'll probably be working from home for majority of the week. Therefore you know getting access to jim. Although i you know have stuff here but i'm dislike. I'm around my family. Like i'm probably not going to really want to necessarily go all out and get a crazy. Jim session in but like i can still do. But i'll i know some people will see that a in their Situation and kind of fill. Like oh man. I didn't get in like a super hardcore workout You know what's the point or like i'm really fallen behind but really they're not so. Can you guys kind of shed some light on you know not necessarily being okay with a mediocre workout. But still just doing what you can right now. I mean what's the alternative. I think that that's kind of the way. I think about it. in these situations it's like well. You have a kettle. Bell have an aba roller I can either figure out a little workout to make me sweat and work my muscles with this and i have a slingshot so i can do some push stuff or i do nothing and i don't get any type of workout in and i feel even worse because a motte working on my body so like which ones better like. Do you have any other options. Really i mean if there are other options you can let me know. There might be something that i'm missing but it really does seem like you. Just gotta you gotta work with you got at. You absolutely can work with what you've got. You just have to make the decision to do it. Yeah there's a there's a book that i I think my dad or my brother got me a while back and they just got it for me because of the it has a weird title and it says like eat bacon. Don't jog the name of the book. And i kind of modeled the war on carbs after it. Because i thought like wow. What a great book. It's like a. It's like a pamphlet almost you know And in the book the guy talks about how people they just make too many boundaries. They make too many Barriers have too many barriers of entry when it comes to exercise and he said i think that it would be really helpful for people to stop thinking about working out and just start thinking about exercise just movement of the body and it's it's a lot easier to talk yourself into moving your body around Shit i got that kettle bell downstairs. i'm gonna. I'm gonna set a time on my phone for ten minutes and i remember three or four exercises that i can do it. That kettle bell. And i'm just gonna do them on back and forth between each exercise to a couple reps and keep alternating and when ten minutes is up That'll be my workout but a lot of times you see me. Workout like polo or like Like golf shorts or whatever not really like in like workout stuff. And i got that from that book. The book was like you don't need.

"And it's like do that. That kills me. Because he's a great quarterback. I don't want kidneys. Were messed up or something from him. Yeah he got. He got completely worked. Yeah so that's another thing we want to see the biggest baddest but like you know people won't will kind of football the kinda turn this way. If they're gonna be over. Brian doing something but we also still don't want to see anybody get hurt. Which is you know that just like i said just frigging sucks like i. I hate that. Drew brees not playing for the next couple of weeks. Would i do hope From this body documentary that The rock is doing Seven bucks production is doing on fil. Heath is i. I really hope that. They hope they do a good job explaining bodybuilding you know and give a little bit of the like not to get too crazy into the science of stuff but Just really talk about the the challenges of building muscle. it's a it's it's it's not that easy and bodybuilders. Actually i think body actually brilliant you know like a training with somebody like o'hearn and kind of seeing how he he's a master like psycho her sense say you know you're like damn and like this guy. He knows he knows some unconventional stuff. It appears that he knows stuff that shouldn't work. But it works great. And he's got his own touch on it and like he has just a like a feel for it and so i hope in this documentary. I hope they Some of that like oh fills got to bring up his shoulders and it's been a week not shoulder weakness but he's got to work on his shoulders and bring them up this year like this. This was a weakness last time or the size of his stomach was an issue because he had and so. He has to work hard to to do this. And show all the bullshit that he's got to go through for that and hopefully they show the the dieting and you know really dwindling down the calories and all that stuff. I should really go. I sincerely hope that they do show all the hard work. Because there is that perspective on bodybuilders in the general population that they're stupid They just lift weights like there was a planet fitness commercial. Where like they show this jacked dude. And he's fucking huge and they're like. Oh i don't know what you do i lift weights and like okay. The weights are over here. I lift weights. It's all he kept saying they like. Put them in this room and that room ended up being the back door and like they throw them out of the gym. 'cause they're like oh. We don't have that type of egotistical lifting here now like do that. That's the most jacked guy in the gym. You need him to like from this shit it and then the Like taco bell had the The like the protein commercial they had like a like a burrito that had like double protein. It was just yeah. I know it's just a bunch of bodybuilder drinking protein shakes. I love protein protein. It was like six of them all at protein protein. He has don't get it like they're not kinda sounds like us though to be honest. Yeah but we'll talk about protein. That is an accurate depiction but then at the time it's like hey this is taco bell like you should be listening to these guys because they're in great shape so i hope because it is seven bucks and it's the rock that you know your everyday you know personally. Oh the rock put this. I wanna watch the rocks. Seven bucks production video. Let's check this out. And then hopefully they can shine some light on the way these are smart. They do work their ass off in. It's not just royds. played on. Cut out our boy honey around bod. Hopefully his in there maybe sick. I think definitely the docs gonna have a big effect because the rocks behind it and who know if he does make a cameo in it. You'll probably posted on his instagram. I think it's going to get a hold kind of a big chunk of new generation of individuals into the gym after seeing it. I really do because i behind you. I wonder if it could be a second coming of pumping i i think. Pumping iron really had a huge impact. Maybe not even so much at the time but like years later had a huge impact. So i could be really cool. So the rock bought olympia. Or how does that even work. He did a while back. But then i think he sold it already. I think he Y- i don't know the exact story but somebody else that owns a bunch of other bodybuilding shows I think bought it but he might still have the rights to some of it. Yeah that's that was one of the weird things in the post where it was like. He kind of made. It seem like here. He had already like in the bag. You know which is probably just him being excited about it. But we don't have any idea who's going to win you know And hopefully The other athletes get a fair shot. I think but. I think they'll probably be some controversy surrounding it already And that's part of being one of the greatest of all time that's part of being phil heath like he's always going to have There's a negativity surrounding him is always going to have you know some of these things Surface i think they felt like arnold was given his last olympia That he did. And if you go back and seen pictures or videos of that you're like It didn't really look like he won. I mean but but he you know look. He earned like he. He made bodybuilding vakhin. Give him a goddamn trophy. And it's his last year like just send him off with it like you know what i mean like I think it's i think sometimes it's okay you know and and the The champ you gotta really dethrone the champ. You know you gotta clearly like whoop his ass otherwise you may as well just give it to the champ. You know You see that in fighting all the time did he do enough to dethrone the champ. Saying i don't know who knows but yeah this weekend. Yeah thick.

"Talking about this stuff. Great. What else you got plan? What are you going on besides your show and? What what else is he had a couple appearances. October. You know I would like to take some time away and do some things because this year has been a little light with my travel schedule. So I'm not burnt out normally by the time I get to this season. I'm just spent my days as you know. Most of my time spent on the phone I'm running. Or whatever business I'm doing and then. I come down to my office base, which isn't too far from here. And then You know I try to just you know getting the training in the morning I'm just working on myself to try to find happiness beyond what I ever had before. That's. been my goal the last week because I felt like I was in a and last week I went to California shoot a youtube video. And I kinda did that to do the drive four hours out four hours back In those drives were, it's like a sanctuary time for. Meditation. And I kind of reminisce about okay. What's what's going on in my life? What my expectations? What's what's the future hold? You know what do I want to happen pretty much I can set my. My Clock and just roll with things in pretty much create anything. So my true happiness is the time that I have now. And be able to do the things that I wanNA to do and not have schedule that's going to allow you do that and even you know like if you ask me, Hey, what time I never know my I don't live by the clock and unfortunately it's very selfish. But at this point I don't really have to. I try not to commit to a lot of things. So if you said. You know what's happening on wall not committing to a lot So the first year I didn't have to commit to weekends of travel and extensive. On the road type things. I'm doing a lot of social media. I want to continue work on the Youtube Channel? in film one more content because that's what people wanna see. Especially, during these times I did a little talk yesterday on instant story..

"States for months and months and months at a time people can't do business people can't do anything. Luckily, everything's found a way to survive but I mean the reality is you have to move on yet life isn't what it was though I can promise you that even someone with me like me that. You know I I feel I have a pretty. Pretty Great Life I mean I've been limited. What I can do the travel has been a lot less You, know you prepare your life to. You know mid mid forties now. And you know. I kinda set myself up. Okay. After forty I can do whatever I want. Well, this year's been kind of like. I'm quarantined. You know we're kind of stuck. I mean. But everyone's the same kind of bowl right? Right except for the ones that are going and traveling all over the. Place going to all these parties and whatever else I mean. Like you know, bless those people like we were talking about earlier the entertainment industry to probably the biggest hit. That's the movies are movies theaters. That's the one. Film films. down. Because they have like certain criteria structure and all that I was looking for the top gun released to. Postpone into next year. Lueneburg stuff to. On top guns can even be good. It's going to be good in the sense that. You know when they did it in eighty five I think it was eighty five they did top honor. Six I feel like it's an astrologer plan but like that movie was everything to me in seventh eighth grade, you know. I wanted to be I wanted to be a pilot. I just wanted to play volleyball. I wanted to that's when I first looked at California like, oh, my gosh, San Diego and. You know the ten being ten outside and you're the guy is in good shape and. You. Know. Tom Tom Cruise flying down chase. Jason. They've the fighter plane with his dingy one thousand. Right. That that's why you know I'm I'm looking forward to seeing it because you have that. Certain movies you can't go back. And do again like are there certain like talk about jaws right you can't go back to the original I mean. The remakes aren't as good. Sometimes, some of these films watch pet cemetery fucking horrible. It wasn't like the original right the original was truly scary and terrifying. Yeah. Terrify me in some way we could go the list goes on and on. I, mean the original Halloween's were amazing. They did. You know the latest one prior to what's going to be launched now..

"Nineteen, ninety one to when I first came to California, and I heard the stories back then we'll if you WANNA make it, I mean I. Even heard that in bodybuilding to a certain. It was just so weird to me because growing up very sheltered. You know only being really surrounded by family. We never traveled. You know as a family didn't go on vacations necessarily we lived in a town of six thousand people. You know I wasn't accustomed to hearing about these kind of things. So I was kind of in a shell shock when I went out to California and I heard there were such things to happen and. We've seen a lot of. Over. over the years with you know this whole. Children. And adults you know having. Some sort of relationships that that weren't legal right? So, I think I think there's gotTa be some truth. Oh. Absolutely. It's just it's how rampant it is. Is the question you know it's it's it's how how how bad it is in how? I think Hollywood's and a lot of trouble and I said this on another podcast I think. That there are some good eggs right and everything I think that there's some great people. Do I think everybody's running around snatching up kids? No. Do I think people that take advantage of any situation of course there is. That's that's I mean we saw that with Weinstein but I think. Hollywood in trouble because I think they operated by a different set of rules for so long and that's what you're getting now is operated by a different set of rules and I think you know we we've always seen flickers that even in fitness through the years, you know people that just did things differently in the fitness industry. For whatever reason and maybe took advantage of people or did whatever. But in Hollywood it was almost ritualistic, which makes it like terrifying almost to a point where. You know somebody might WanNa live the dream take a trip hotel a do whatever it's unecessarily La anywhere. You know get that Opportunity New York. And get put in a position. That, their brain can't even comprehend and that's what's terrifying about it, and that's where the conspiracy star coming in of how many people get sucked in what that turns into and what that starts, look? I can take the approach of there's blood on all hands. You know I think people agree to stuff that they don't you know they get what's called buyer's remorse they agreed to it they don't necessarily want to, but they do and they put themselves in bad positions because we talk about that all the time it's just how deep it goes and how bad it is in Hollywood and I think there's a lot of people in Hollywood right now especially in the entertainment business that are running for shelter and I think there's going to be a huge turnover as movies come back and who the Hollywood stars are and how that power structure works because. I don't have to tell you. You're out there quite a bit La's hurt and right now you know I, mean there's nothing going on out there and I think people are terrified to put people in a movie or or cast people because of how rampant it is now whether or not she talks and lists get exposed and it goes into politics and everything else. That's a whole nother story that's a podcast and it's fucking self but I think the reality is Jerry take. That this is something that goes deeper than even all of us can comprehend because I never in my wildest dreams go to comprehend an island that guy a guy was still in a private plane with with with kids you know and fly in them there..

"People acknowledged right I started youtube back in. Oh Eight. before I was monetize ing before there was monetize and all that, and you know I started with a small monkey productions and I started filling my workouts with little camcorder. unfortunately, my contracts kept me from continuing that because it became a media thing when social media came out after the magazine's. Exclusive to a lot of Media channels, and then I got back on Youtube a few years ago would Jay Cutler TV? and now you know it's it's more of the most recognizable concept of anyone knows me for my youtube videos and why? Why is that You Know Youtube is forever right where instagram you can be instagram stories. They disappeared to twenty four hours. If you post a picture on Instagram, many people scroll past the front page. So you lose a lot of the pitchers from two months four months, six months a year down down the bottom, right. Whereas you can type in Youtube Jay Cutler trains, Chester Jay Cutler visits, California, whatever all the keywords bring that thing up. And pretty much. It's there. So you can learn a lot. You learn a lot about a person when the cameras on them constantly not just your great great days like Social Media instagram shows right? No one shows. The really the the bad days on instagram. In your approach I've I've said it one hundred times to people I bring you up as an example of the time. It's genius because you're you're showing everyday stuff and I think people over you like crazy talk to one hundred people you know they always wanted I think in fitness the mistake a lot of guys make as they WANNA put too many bodybuilding clips up they wanNA make it all about lifting the weights listen. We know you're strong. We know you're in shape we know you lift a lot of way we know you're gonNA grunt we know the workouts are going to be bad ass but I think once you get past that it's kind of. Like the silliness of the gun industry once you get past the fact that the gun goes bang what's the story beyond that people are dying to know what the story is on that I love watching the videos where it's just you chilling in the house telling a story or making eggs and hanging out and telling them you know story I I think that's the real that people wanna be in touch with the real person and I think a lot of the mistakes people make on Youtube in particular when you get into that longer form. You don't allow yourself to come out and you don't allow your you always WanNa? Give off the persona it always. I said at one hundred times teams or me say it one hundred times everybody's a bad ass in a thirty second clip..

"I'd expect to be there definitely because he's been second now he's been shooting up like a yeah he's just right there. So people forgetting about him but I would say, definitely be the top three. You know you might have dexter who was fourth I. Think last year he has a good shot. It's as you know you may come out of. You know with its best showing ever to prove something stepping away. Flex could be there to lexical be top three I. Mean Haughty. Chupin. was third last year he could be right there. Flex is an interesting one is a wild card and that just you know like you said what what you're going to get. You know if he comes in and that to thirty to forty range can you put two fifty on I? Don't know know know he'll be two. He'll be two two high to twenty to thirty that's going to be his He'll be ultrasound because he's just he I mean I, mean he just he look he's so filled out. He's complete necessarily this when you get to that level, it's it's about who's the most complete and conditioned balance and You know best show showman really infill has the most experience up there besides Dexter Jackson. WHOSE WANTED ALREADY You know fill seven time champion back for eight he's got something to prove so. It would be great. Unfortunately Sean Road probably won't be in the show so it won't be defending a and it sucks I in some ways to not have sean there but. Given that there's little more time because it's got pushed out I think that helps flex to. Yeah I think it helps a lot of people because they're hungry I mean normally the show would have been done over. Forgotten about now. In now, it's like it's music extended till December. In some ways I think not doing the floor show I don't WanNa get lost on this topic but like It's important to touch on it. I think in some ways not doing the expo. Is a good thing Jay. We've talked about this because I think they almost have to get away from it being like a t shirt and Shaker bottle you know expo it's got kind of evolve a little bit and I think I don't know how to do that. I don't know how they do that. Yeah. I mean Myra was no expos right. So I came in ninety nine for the first Olympia Mandalay Bay. when they moved it here for good. and. We had no expo. We end up having some booths I. Think two, thousand, two, thousand, one there started to be like a mini expos or just a few companies it wasn't being sold as like an expert. And there wasn't as much commitment by the athletes it was like you're coming to compete now is your job, and unfortunately now it's it's such a business that required pretty much to attend. Outside activities other than just your job to compete at the show and unfortunately. You. Know you go through the whole year is training with that one focus to be your best and you have to peak on that day and sometimes it's difficult to do. Is Crazy to you that the prize money and everything even the sponsorship monies come down and. The expo the first to have more booths more products boy everything has risen that never surprise you that that's shifted like that.

Stage show everything new venue this year I'm not sure the expos it's not happening the Convention Center, but they talked about something happening. Inside the casino, maybe an outdoor. Some sort of. Structure, but they're going to pull it off. The are going to pull off a contest now whether it's audience. No audience I'm not sure livestream we'll be there well, didn't. They didn't a righteous governor just announced you're GONNA have two hundred and fifty people. Yeah the the problem is even like even the like the raiders right we didn't have the celebration open in the stadium and. You know what does it cost to to have security in open a stadium for? Sure to people right. It's not even worth. So you gotta look at the cost versus. Expense Nichols. Bringing, people in limited on space right? Now. They're going to stream it though, right they have plans to stream and all that they'll.

"It's from people that are like in their thirties or in their forties people always like Oh. It all goes downhill after you reach age already and I don't see that doesn't make sense to me. I'm just like you know if you stay healthy or if she pickup healthy habits you you do all these things. You shouldn't be feeling like you're fifty years old at thirty five right right like bright but so for so for me I I I joke around about all the time but it's because for the past ten years I've been feeling like that already because my back was so jacked up but even even more so on top of that it's you know my dad or my uncles that have had terrible habits their whole lives. They've lived that life too so where it comes from is is like what I've seen and I it's all downhill like you know joking with you. Your twenty seven like Oh man. It's almost all over but we now have the knowledge in the like the ability to make sure that doesn't happen like you're feeling much better now than you did ten years ago right yeah I I told Mark like I think a year and a half ago I'm like do when I'm forty. I'll being the best shape of my life and it's only because it's just gonNa take that light. We'll even longer than that Riley on Il I'll just get better and better whereas like my dad has. He's already had open heart surgery and stuff. You know it's like I know I'm not going that way. I feel I feel really good. I feel like I can learn anything and I feel like I can try anything. I feel like I can do anything like within reason like there's some things like you know like jumping out of a helicopter or something like I just really you know I don't care to do that but but I could and I and I could learn it right and then if I went with somebody who's like dude like well. I hope you know it really ain't that you know it's not bad it's fairly safe and data shot a bunch of crazy guns this past weekend at the Olympia all that with John Bartolo and it's not my thank you know really it's not but like after doing it and being it's just about exposure so you get exposed to something and you're like Oh. That's kind of cool. That's that's it's possible I could. I could do that yeah. I think back to this kind of mindset thing I really. I really think it's a it's a bad route. You know I really do. I think it's a bad route for people to go to think like Oh man you know. It's all like to joke about a here and there it's kind of kind of what we do it. It seems like he's all excited and he gets engaged or something and we you know of course we're going to shoot them down. What are you doing? It's all downhill. We're GONNA like we're gonNA mess with them. You know but like in general. I don't think the mindset is is healthy and I don't think it's smart when you ask someone how how how you doing man like like oh I'm hanging in there. You're like what the come on man like. Are you being serious like you know I I was like at the airport and the lady behind the counters like how's it going. I'm doing great and she's like wow she's like. I haven't heard that before and like my daughter was like kind of laughing and she's like that was weird because you say that all the time that lady was so shocked yeah she's like it's normal to feel great right. I said I feel great every day and so that's kind of normal for her 'cause she sees me Kinda saying it now like I might get off the couch and be like yeah you know I might get an old guy. MOANS and groans cause a little sore and making all the noises and stuff but even those noises aren't great like are they really are they necessary sima talks a lot about you know make it faces when you're lifting and I talked to people in here all the time. Don't come in here and make a face like you're smelling farts all day when you do your first set of squats like fucking relaxed. Do you like get yourself warm. Get yourself in a better mindset like that's not a good way. That's not a good representation of of how you're going to end up having a great workout that makes you feel good to kind of make these yeah. You know. Maybe when you get a lot of weight on there maybe maybe your face changes a little bit but in general it's like you know. Let's send a message to your body like hey. This is GONNA be cool. This is is something that we want to do and it's going to be healthy for. Sometimes they're just really is a lot of farts though well yeah somebody might have crop dusted the whole place I had like eighty-five birthday parties to attend to yesterday made it to all of them very late but course always last minute birthday gift shopping it was passing through a bunch of shirts and stuff like graphics and on all like whatever and a lot of them were like a Monday or like to tire hire. Don't bother me honestly don't make these shirts like Holy Shit like what is it really that bad yeah on top of that. What do you want to emphasize it by wearing it on your your body? don't talk to me. I haven't had my first cup of coffee. Yeah that that type of on like okay like I get it now right like that's I guess we're going to keep going that way. We're not going to try to stop it right here and be like nope not wearing that shirt. That's the thing like these ideas. It's like oh it all goes downhill after thirty which so many people told me or like that's Monday in another week mulling all these types of ideas have pervaded culture so so deeply that people expect to feel that way. They expect to feel like shit on Monday. They expect that after thirty they're gonNA feel tired and whatever they expect that after they're married they're not canal like all that Kinda Shit. After you get married like I think the significant others sexy or they're not gonNA have sex anymore like any of that kind of shit and it's like an house the House working for me when they have these expectations and then all these people that believe this is true around them. It's not surprising that like you know I get emails from people like knows knows it too late for me to get started this fitness thing. I'm thirty eight Blah Blah's it. Can I not lose weight or this is a great time for my focus on your man. This is awesome. You know like guys thinking or my hormones or do not have enough testosterone or is this that because you're like thirty five or something no right. You know what I mean it it. There's no reason to think that way but so many people do that. It's almost hard to believe that it is possible. and I think you know something. I been kind of preaching lately like find something. That's repeatable. You know find something. That's it's easy enough and simple enough that it's something that you can you can manage an and do repeatedly because you have to have like like shit the hang onto you know you need. We all need like stuff to do for you. You found Jujitsu and you found lifting longtime ago and these are things that you can easily implement and they still work. You can still have you can still have your job. You know which provides income for you to to live the life that you wanna live you you have time with your girlfriend. You've you've worked all these things out and it's all things that fit into what you're doing. Your Diet fits into all the stuff right so people just you know they really need to kind kind of being search of finding stuff you know we all want to make things so difficult. but jeff shared something with me this morning and it's from Bruce Lee which I think is amazing using Bruce Lee just had so much great great wisdom but he said you know it's it's just as important to subtract as it is to ad I talk about do more be more which is fantastic but if you're going to do more and I if you're GONNA do more better subtract stuff out of your life too because we're really going to be you know arguably continue to add to our plate and add to our plate now. We don't have time for other shit right so after a while it won't make any sense because you'll be driving in yourself crazy with two more all the red light. I gotTa do that and I I gotta go ten minute walk and I need you know and it'd be like really weighing your food right right and you're just really losing your mind at some point. So you gotta be a little cautious with it and you gotta you know. Get certain things at your life. Yeah Mike you know when I started doing Jujitsu. It took a little bit of for me to be like okay. Do I have to actually lift less if I'm going to be able to do this. Well you know took lots of get that in my head that I may have to do a few less stays in the gym. If I want to get better at this I think you initially you didn't and then you had to ask to house feeling tired. Yeah just it didn't work yeah and now you're at a place where where you feel like I mean I saw a dead lift and six twenty five for some reps the other day right yeah they've got a place where you can still come in have a great intense workout and I'm sure when you're going went over to Jujitsu that your workouts are intense and they're the way that you want them to feel. Oh yeah no yeah yesterday came in did that work out that I wanted you to. Afterwards News all rolling Rowling's we had like fourteen rolls yesterday and stay on beat me like I feel beat right now but yeah just just like it's all that little adjustment and even even like fasting that helps a lot in terms of taken away stress of having a cook all day so you know taking out certain things can help a lot going through edged today no no. There's an open matte tonight but I I don't know if I'M GONNA go. I don't think so right so I mean because you have this mindset though where you're fairly open been and you're conscious of like I I wanna be better if if somebody you know let's let's say there was a great raped Jujitsu practitioner who's like in the area and they have a clinic and someone's like dude. It's not like it's not a normal seminar like it's a full on like clinically your work. Thank you also but you just found out about it. When you're leaving here and you've got the opportunity to go? You would just go yeah. I was beat not anymore. Yeah like I feel fine now like you'll snap out of it right because you have the mindset towards that seems like it's in my best interest to go and do that regardless of the same thing with coming into the gym. You Know Louis We Simmons always said like I just wonder. I wonder wonder what happened. If I just told everybody were squatting today and it was on a bench day I said Lou everyone would just squat you know because that's the mindset of the people that are in here that I wanNA do. They WanNa do what they feel is in their best interest Chris and they feel it's in their best interest to follow your program. Follow what you're saying so if you told them if Cassius hey this is what we're doing. We're running three miles or five miles. You'd I'll be like okay like there would be a little snicker right and they would last for about three minutes. Maybe a couple of guys would grumbler buller whatever but he'd be like no man. We need to be in better shape. We're all like running. You'd be like okay just not showing up on Tuesday when we run. You know I'm curious. It's about this because I've been hearing like.

"mr. olympia" Discussed on Mark Bell's Power Project

"You've been in bodybuilding for a long long time and you've been kicking ass for a long time and you've been putting up points on the scoreboard at the Olympia for for a long time but now you finally landed a championship and what's that like man after all these years to finally win the Olympia so you know it's it's it's it's Kinda started started off. You know you kinda dream to to accomplish such thing and it's just it's just an woman common experience when it actually able to accomplish one of your biggest goals of your career man. It's just definitely overwhelming. I don't really know I'm kind of between consciousness right now. reality and this dream state right now Jay Cutler said it may take Lisa Weekday hit me or so before I actually I'm able to take it all in your alley of it all in so. What do you think the biggest difference is like why why this year? I think maybe maybe the best you places like a top five before or you've been in the top six seven eight how how were you able to come out on top this year. Well you know it was Kinda. Just like the top five last year I had automatic qualification so we me and my coaches started think about as far as what what was go for the two thousand eighteen season so we've kind of mapped it out we come in and Windy Arnold and we'll set the stage for the Olympia Kinda Kinda create behind the motivation today show to to be a call one of the front runners and I knew in my heart that could beat John So you know I kinda once solidified that opportunity at the Arnold and was able to get the win I knew coming into the Olympia it'd be advocate but a win and quite honestly you know Sean of course looking in this event this year because of the situation but you know quite honestly you know I'll just came in and you might be with nothing but confidence when it came to being able to take this title. was there anything specific with like diet or anything specific with a type of Cardio Training that Oh you were doing that was different than in the past well I think right now being thirty six years old my body's Kinda in his prom and we just take advantage manage that is my body from the purpose much different from the Olympia prep so it was it was much much much different preparation even from those two contests not that far apart maturity process allowed me to put it more work do more cardio eat less calories calories less carbohydrates and still maintain a good standard of muscle mass to to come in the way we need it so that that process and the way the body was performing allow me to come into the cell even more approved in the Arnold so I was able to take the win because I think the judges noticed that over over most of other aspects of improving who's actually getting better and showed a show no brandon you've been competing for like sixteen years now and when a lot of athletes look at that wonder like how are you able to I guess just maintain the fire from when you started what allows you to do that you in life. You have to purposing things to really really have the motivation to go after him. no matter what the circumstances is our and now I go six when I saw running titles what I thought was impossible Dustin Cutler and got beat it in from that point on it's like tossed a purpose spark in pin me as far as what I wanted to accomplish some body when are taking it seriously and once that impossible possible thing happened my mind I was thinking okay now. I'm going after this and despite despite any losses anything that happened happened I was able to I was able to stay focused on my missions no matter what and continue to push strive back to be the best I could beat him out of what my circumstances because I felt like I had purpose in the sport. I felt like I could get to this mountaintop. No matter what what's happening just as long as I put in the work as consistent as possible out eventually found the right formula what now what right now are things I back in normal life enjoying the family right touring of course being in a vast worton Orton Libya and then got title for next year so I beg to the roots get reprogrammed adjusted to being a dad and not a lot of people we know this but you've been a big supporter of my brand for many many years and you're a big supporter in the very beginning and I I can't tell you how much I appreciate it and then how proud I am of you the C. You pull out this victory is really cool and super motivating and inspiring to us over here at Super Training Gym opposition Supporters Always Nanan in and out doing big things in a definite great motivator my life and see if he's doing an accomplishment in the industry and you guys keep it up man. I wish you got a take a good luckier seminar today. Thank you so much for your time. Champ take care all right. Thank you how cool well that didn't suck that didn't suck at all and I was live and everything to that was crazy you gotta we just got on the phone with the Chan- that's that's so wait when did Blake. When was he doing stuff with the US? I don't know man that Guy's been on my dick for a long time. I'm like Yo Brandon. Just relax man now you know I knew I knew him through. BSN through my good friend Eric Heart who now does stuff with read Khan and does stuff with Brian Shaw and Brandon was so like Nice right off the bat you know he was he was just like hey yeah I'll I'll I'll try some of the products out and then he was trying out the slingshot when a lot of other bodybuilders at the time were very resistant to it. He was like Shit. I'll try it out. He's like my shoulders. Shoulders are trashed so he tried it out and he was like yeah I use it on a hammer strike machine and I use it on this and he used on a bunch of stuff that I never even intended to for or to be used on. He's like it works great man he's like aware at all time and he's wearing like the wrist wraps and all different kinds of stuff and then we just lost touch over the last last few years never reached out to him. He hasn't reached out to me in a while and I've been kind of following along and seeing you know where he's been what he's been up to and seeing him make some progress but to see him win the Olympia. I'll be totally honest came out of left field for me because first of all I thought he was a little bit older because he's been in the sport for so long. I think you mentioned like Seventeen Years Sixteen sixteen years and so you know oh five to eight years ago when I was getting to know him I probably figured maybe he was more on the downside of his career but the last two three years have been really really good for him and this year at the Olympia showed up like bigger than ever what's not about. It's it's crazy. I don't get like especially like him and then when you look at other guys I think the the oldest guy that's competing as Dexter Jackson. They just continue to to get better. I think there's something about the way you said forty nine forty nine what you know so he might come on X. Because Jackson let up on US fifth fourth or fifth. You know that's just absolutely crazy so I do wonder about this win though because a lot of the Internet's talking doc and they're like oh he did it beat Ville or something you know that type of stuff so I wonder like if he's thinking about that at all or if that weighs on his mind but hey he came in and he killed it so he's got a feel good about it. It's gotTa give them confidence for next year as well you know because those other guys probably will be there. Oh Yeah and then also like let's say fill is there. Let's say Brent Rodent was there people are still gonNA complain about something. Though he wasn't as good as last year he would've John last year like suck so it doesn't matter or the the sports changed you know and it's like they. They got an excuse for everything. They want. The guys who'd be smaller in our they never want it wasn't this way they're gonna always have an excuse this to throw in there and the exciting thing is that it kind of sounds like the tidal title is a little bit more up for grabs than it was years ago when you saw Ronnie Coleman take his crown and and really hold onto it and then Jay Cutler got four championships as well and a lot of people are going back and forth you had a long era with a kind of Arnel or Lee Haney going back Lee Haney and then arnold and then joining Yates one at several times as well and it's like you had people kinda holding the title and they couldn't be beaten and now it seems like I guess the last Three Olympia there's been three different champions that right Brandon Sean by the I think the year before was Phil Right yeah so that yeah yeah three different ones over the last three years and obviously Phil had it for many years before that what he won six I think yeah so it was interesting because I think it might have been Jay Cutler when he had mentioned on the podcast here that there was like thirteen champions he's like you know he's like I. I might not see another thirteen by time. My time is up and it's like who actually we might see like you know. The next thirteen might be different. You know who knows true. It makes it I my opinion makes way more exciting. Even though watching some fill is totally dominate like that's cool to you but like I mean why does everybody hate the Patriots owner. Oh you know what I mean. How exciting is it when like Oh shit who is going to win this? Everybody hates the Patriots because they cheat they deflate the ball. I mean come on. They cheat they win and then nobody cares. No I know I just I hate the Patriots because I'm a jets fan but I love the Patriots honestly I I love watching watching greatness of any kind you know I had an opportunity to This is like totally unrelated but I had opportunity. Jerry Seinfeld Feld years ago I have I've had opportunity to see Joe Rogan like when you get to see a professional you know when I was a kid..

High-fat diets change your brain, not just your body

"It's it's hard to produce key tones. It's hard to it's actually one of the hardest diets because it takes almost two weeks leaks for your body to actually start to produce kitone key tones is a it's a fraction aided fat. When you start to consume large amounts of fat in the absence of carbohydrates your body will start to produce ketones? Some people believe that key tones are a preferred source of energy especially for like your brain so a lot of people say oh man I'm on like this Kito high or I've Gone Akito Genyk Diet and I have a ton of clarity because of the key tones but for me right now like I haven't been on a actual ketogenic diet and a long time I do eat very low carb but I still have room for fruit. America junior miracle misdemeanor visit universe eight times to olympia. Why not might have to say i. I remember some preparation here. I've seen your story and heard about you because you've just been so good to atlanta over the years. You've been so popular here in our city as well as renting states. Did you retire the first time and when you're thirty one eight was it i had no more room moment on the mantle at my home and that's that's the same you know you got to know when to hold onto the folding but that's when you started making some real changes in your life about what you were going to do with the rest of your life which is really this we say jokingly the second half the secondhand you know sam to us success success in other areas and that's when i introduced my own product land lee haney nutrition and then i create what is called the international association of fitness science ryan which is a certification organization when people wanted to become a personal trainer then we went on to create this is the third year for what will be call- louis heinous with zeke and fitness games which is a community oriented event for the entire family strongman powerlifting aww wrestling dance cheerleading leading strongman physique mckanie name it is there so all of these different things. A lot of great things are happening and we're trying to impact the community for good now you you've. You've kinda focus. This is back on the olympia. That's being mr olympia and i heard your daughter's name so you know that was my ninth olympia well. I'll just say you retired. The thirty one but here was the night olympia. That's come along. You know it's been an interesting career. I've gone to more than thirty different countries around the world promoting the employment of health and wellness and and then the platform that was given me by being passed chairman of the president's council on fitness that has helped the lot so it off me opportunity to help a lot of people so i'm able to impact lives of people everywhere and i'm working on a new book now tsk because i'm past fifty five talking so i'm working on a new book called fit at any age and we chronicle fitness and how it should look because fitness at age fifty fat shouldn't look like fitness at age of twenty and if you forget that you're not twenty he could be very treacherous real quick. It's called. It's called muscle extension or are doctors. Continuity in the chiropractor does for you to love you know is oftentimes. I have several doctors that i worked with and they call me to make sure their patients are given the right type of exercise program because a twenty year old don't know how a fifty euro feels well. I zolia walking largest. Don't work your fifth well and most and most of those thirty year. Old doctor's never really had a fitness program while they were twenty and twenty five there you go. You're really exactly correct now. Do we know you've written an awful lot about that very subject about the aging gently in place my my children call aging by decades and you're you're right. I i mean how important is that to get. The right. Kind of counseling has important to to kenneth kaunda judge gain measure yourself as you go through life talk about that. That's the very important you know and then the book i talk about you know the fact that i've been twenty thirty forty fifty and older now and i know what happens and how you feel during those different transitions so what i promote in the book is something called functional training training helps the functionality of the body because a natural occurrence to push the pool to stretch the band and so a exercise program for managing age should be in lambeth debt. Now i worked with a group of doctors. Matter of fact is called the flowers medical which is located in winter. He'll offer seventy five. We have of the office there which we have. I have a functional training studio so i write exercise descriptions and show people what it is that they need to be doing specifically for their age group. So that's very important missile. "You're going to have to try to add entertainment value to anything that you have whether it's bodybuilding powerlifting how the hell out you're going to get people to watch it nowadays i think social media has helped in some ways you have like men's physique and think they got rid of women's bodybuilding right yeah that's gone and they have some other avenues for the chicks to get involved in but when you first started they didn't have a lot of that stuff and have any of right now it's strictly mentioned women's body but you know touch on the social media thing and that's why the social media people without accolades of titles or achievements lake they have more followers because they do shit that's exciting i mean a bodybuilder what's a bodybuilder do besides each brass and go to the gym and pump up chest there's no real like personalities and i was victim of that too i mean i didn't like cameras on my face i was very serious but what i did i had to learn to come out of my shell some and now in social media have to be more of a normal person but i'm allowed to do that because not i'm not driven towards that one goal i mean i thrive in business but some of the stuff is not brazil too you know what's fascinating though is somebody that has the drive and determination to be a fourtime mr olympia so it's not like you have to jump over a car or anything like that you know what i mean it's it's still intriguing enough and that's why so many people want to have you do seminars and have you at these speaking engagements all the time yeah i think they look at the mindset i mean i think that's really what what drives you to be able to do what you do at the highest level i mean intrigues people because how many people can say they are the best in the world that what they did is still like when i say it to you i don't look at myself like that like i don't look like hey i see ccomplish like being the best buy where four times like i have to constantly reminded of it because i'm still in mindset like i'm the kid in massachusetts with a dream and wanting to move.

"And closer to winning the best title in the world and why i figured why stop now if i can become the best in the world and it's like okay i reached a pinnacle in not at many guys ray but say that so why waste the ride that i've been having and i'm going to go all the way to the top and that's that's kinda how i it kinda was by circumstance to be honest because if you go back to my first dvd which early on was my social media outlets i released dvd's every year training videos i actually said in a cut above which you can find on youtube i said you know on never played on being mr olympia it wasn't my it wasn't an ultimate goal and until i stood next to ronnie coleman in two thousand one in a very controversial second is when i first realized that holy shit i can win this thing and that's when when i really pursued the mr limpia title and you know the rest from there i mean the fucking mindset of like getting every day and pushing yourself till i felt like i was gonna have a heart attack and i mean there was times where i almost passed out training because i couldn't breathe and in vegas the heat i remember doing balking lunges outside training for olympia in august and i'm lunging with you know twenty five on my back in the parking lot in it's one hundred twenty degrees on the on the pavement and i remember just like okay no one else is doing this so i'm gonna do it in that's was my mindset i mean you can read the stories i used to train in the middle of the night because no one else was doing it i've heard mike tyson talk about that with his roadwork he'd wake up like three thirty go run and and you know that was my that was how i like mind fucked everybody else you know i would make sure that i posted up something you know hey i'm training at this time so people like man is that the secret is jay has to do is that what we have to do and i did it almost kind of like play mind games for the other guys and say hey you're not doing the work that i'm doing and it made me feel it helped my goto.

"Son of a batch yeah as you got into it further or or just even like seeing more modern day bodybuilding and seeing the size of people have grown too it seems like there's people are confused people are a lot of people think it's just drugs and a lot of people think the guy that gets the first place trophy just took a lot more shit than everybody else what are some of your thoughts on that the i think it's bullshit because when i started training you know i worked with i mentioned you know when i started about six months and i met christa cdo who trained me for almost my whole career who was a great nutritionist he he actually graduated first in his class exercise and nutrition and at springfield college which lot of people don't know and he taught me a lot about the nutrition aspect and the funny thing is that we rarely talked about drugs and because that really wasn't one of those things i mean as a teenager you really early you know had the physique and i was progressing super fast and everything was very very basic and that's the way i kind of believed and i saw success rate away from that so i wasn't eyeing okay we'll to move forward i need to do a ton of drugs or anything like that shit it was kinda like voodoo right no one talked about it and we didn't have the internet so he couldn't read about like cycles and that kind of stuff the magazines definitely didn't talk about it every guy was natural in the magazines and you know every guy was just like you know took the supplements the wieder you know the chew will wrench chain amino or whatever they were selling at the time so for me you know to see what's happened now and see what people's perception is of what everyone takes including myself when i was winning mr olympia titles it's just i mentioned you guys earlier you know when you when you're mr olympia contender like this has been thirteen right i was number eleven.

"The ideal ideal height that's the biggest biggest thing people like oh i thought you taller in the magazines i said no i was just wider but not as tall and for me you know i had grown up with a athl athletic background meaning i was just a lot of i was very physical so like we had a work a lot i did concrete work my brother's business i did farming work but i was you know i was a kid active kid i did bike riding i did all that stuff you know played sports in the in the neighborhood and everything and in high school i played football but even before i get into football you i was always flexing for like you know my sisters or brothers friends you know i was arm wrestling i was great arm wrestle even fourteen fifteen and you were flexing probably because you had some muscle i had muscles i mean i like hey flex your arm i mean it's funny 'cause we can dig back into the photo albums the family photo albums and has so many pitches flexing when i was like five seven nine 'cause i had you know little biceps and all that stuff but i was wanted to be like a superhero i mean that was my thing i remember i saw pitcher chris dickerson who is a former mr olympia at twelve and i told my oldest brother his name's bob and i said this is what i want to look like and he thought i was crazy i mean he's like this guy's got muscles everywhere you know why would you wanna look like that and i just to me it kind of intrigued me a little bit and that's kind of where i started with the idea of how i wanna get into weight training and i had that mindset it just didn't happen till i was eighteen for many reasons what were some of the reasons we were some of the hurdles in trying to get into it because i was forced to work i was forced to work a lot i mean i i got the time you know my family actually allowed me to play football which they were begging me to come play football and do track i just couldn't commit to track because there's only so much time i.
