"Well we're going to get to our first look now at the president-elect's newest cabinet members later today. The team which includes obama administration alums will assemble in delaware for an official announcement this afternoon. Anthony blinken will serve as secretary of state he previously served as deputy secretary of state and deputy national security adviser. Alejandra york us will be the first latino and the first immigrant to become homeland security secretary. He served as deputy homeland secretary and director of citizenship and immigration services. April heinous will become the first woman to hold the role of director of national intelligence. She previously as a national security lawyer. And deputy cia director. Jake sullivan will become national security adviser. He was five national security adviser and was a top aide to hillary clinton. While she was secretary of state linda. Thomas greenfield will be named. Us basseterre to the u. n. And former secretary of state john kerry will be the climate on roy and former federal federal reserve chair. Janet yellen will be the first woman ever become treasury secretary. If she is confirmed by the senate would an impressive list let's bring in former. Nato supreme allied commander retired four-star navy. Admiral james redis. He is chief. International security diplomacy and less for nbc news and msnbc and former treasury official on morning joe economic analyst. Steve rattner joins us as well. Good to have you both admiral. Let's begin with some of president-elect biden's foreign policy selections the wall street journal opinion page said. They were internationalists but also said on the other. Hand talking about blinken and Jake sullivan they were also more hawkish. On some obama era debates. Mr sullivan supported antitank mrs for ukraine which president obama posed. Mr blinken favored the iraq war in two thousand and two intervention in libya. Mr blanket was known for repeating the mantra superpowers. Don't bluff regarding mr obama's red line fiasco about the use of chemical weapons and syria. I would take that like me. You you agree. Superpowers don't bluff. You don't draw red line and then step back from it. And apparently that's what our new secretary of state Believes as well. Well let's start with the team itself kind of step back for a minute show and this is the most experience group coming in That i can remember certain going back to bush lawn and before that maybe to the kennedy administration if you listen to the titles that make it. Just read off deputy to this deputy to that do this. These are now people who are stepping up to cabinet level. They are experienced. They are well prepared boy. How refreshing is that number two and maybe more importantly joe. This is a very collegial team. This he'll give you a sports analogy. This one's for mike barnicle. This is like the one thousand nine hundred eighties celtics basketball team. They don't really care who. The high score is more interested in getting assists that running up the score out there on the field trying to make each other look good. It's that kind of group. And i worked with all of them when i was supreme allied commander in. They were in all their jobs. And then finally. You're absolutely right. This is an internationalist group. A little bit of hawkish edge to it. But i think that's okay one. It's tempered as you see from this group by that that instinctive desire to reach out into the international world. They'll look for allies. They'll look for coalitions. They'll look to work with international organizations. I think this is a a fine selection and will serve the nation. Well

Obama: US 'adversaries have seen us weakened'

"Barack Obama called Donald Trump at about three o'clock in the morning to congratulate him. Even though Mr Trump had lost the popular vote and took the electoral college by less than 1% in three states today, President Trump declines to accept the verdict of the voters despite losing by greater margins to President elect Joe Biden. Mr Obama hasn't spoken of the election standoff until today. We spoke to the 44th president on the release of his new book, A Promised Land, a memoir of his early years and first term. What is your advice in this moment for President Trump? Well, the president is A public servant. They are temporary occupants of the office by design. And When your time is up. Uh, Then it is your job, too. With the country first and thinking beyond your own ego and your own. Interests and your own disappointments. My advice to President Trump is if you want. At this late stage in the game to be remembered as somebody who could come country First. It's time for you to do the same thing. In your view, it is time for him to concede. Absolutely I will. I mean, I think it was time for him to concede. Probably the day after the election or at the latest two days after the election, I When you look at the numbers objectively, Joe Biden will have won handily. There is no scenario in which Any of those states would turn the other way, and certainly not enough to reverse be outcome of the election. More than the courtesy of a concession, the Trump White House is declining to free up the usual funds and facilities for the incoming administration. President elect Biden is not receiving secret national security briefings. As Mr Trump did when he was president elect. What In your estimation? Would our adversaries be thinking right now? Russia China about the fact that the transition is not moving forward. Well, I look, I think our adversaries Have seen US weakened not just as a consequence this election, but over the last Several years. We have these cleavages in the body politick. That They're convinced they can exploit. There's an old adage that partisan politics should stop at the water's edge right that. When it comes to Our foreign policy that it is the United States of America, not the divided states of America. We met the former president at a symbol of America's past divisions. The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery was a hospital in the civil war. Clara Barton and Walt Whitman cared for patients in the building where the 16th president consoled his wounded. We joined Mr Obama's peers in the gallery of the President's to talk about his book. I'm curious about the title. I think a lot of people feel that we are farther from a promised land. Well, I titled it the promised land. Because even though we may not get there in our lifetimes, even if we experience hardships and disappointments along the way That I Create a more perfect union, not a perfect union. Obama urges Americans to honor John Lewis' legacy by voting

"For the funeral of Congressman John Lewis rose to its feet with an up roar of applause during a eulogy from former President Barack Obama. Mr Obama talked about the selfless sacrifice of the civil rights leader and that the voting rights he fought for our under siege by President Trump, who's floating the idea of delaying the election. Joining us live to talk about CBS analyst Leonard Steinhorn. Great to have you, Leonard? Happy to be here so to other presidents were on hand. But it was poor former President Obama, who offered this impassioned defense of democratic ideals that he says are being threatened. He's been more outspoken, but not like this. Can you talk about it? Look essentially what President Obama was saying is, if we wanna honor John Lewis's legacy, truly honor it. We need to finish the work of John Lewis's lifetime. Which is to ensure voting rights, for all with no obstacles in anyone's way and in effect. What he did with his rhetoric is he entered the political fray not directly not through partisan attacks, but with clear and pointed assaults on those Particularly Republicans, who were doing exactly what John Lewis fought against all of his life, which is to undermine the voting rights of the American people, So he did it through lofty and impassioned rhetoric. But his message was clear. He was definitely part former president and part preacher today, talking about the protests as well, something that Louis energized in his day is a civil rights leader, nearly losing his life in the fight. Can you characterize what Mr Obama said, and its relevance at this moment in history? So, in essence, what President Obama did was draw a straight line from Bloody Sunday on the Edmund Pettus Bridge from Bull Connor in Birmingham. ER, George Wallace. The black lives matter. And the civil rights struggles of today are voting rights struggles of today. So you know, he basically said Bull Connor may be gone, But today we witness with our own eyes, police officers. Kneeling on the next of black Americans. George Wallace may be gone. But then, he said he worries about the federal government's sending agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators. Clearly referencing what happened in Lafayette Square when President Trump wanted to go to the church and hold up his Bible. So he drew a straight line from John Lewis in the 19 sixties tow what's happening today, and clearly, that was a strong message that this next generation now has to take the torch. And continue on with the fight that John Lewis began when he was just Ah, young, a young man in 1960 CBS News political analyst Leonard Steinhorn Thanks so much for being here. Thanks Always. By the

"mr. obama" Discussed on 760 KFMB Radio

"Pro obama. Look, I I understand why he says this this this is the guy that says, look, I can tell people that can keep their doctor. I could screw my own party over the people that voted for me, they still love me. And I screwed them on their healthcare. I told them they can keep their doctors. I lied to their face about their medical care in their doctors. And they still support me. So I can make up anything that I want at any time because they'll still support me. Yes. You know, you look smarter when you're sitting in an oversized chair. Oversized chairs we understand we're in radio at Rice University. They were they were sitting in these there these massive chairs. They they're completely oversized. There's they don't need. They don't need a chair that size. We are. We are the world's leading largest oil producer now because of Obama. Yes. They lowered corporate taxes too. So the economy is booming. Wow. I did that. No, no, no, no, No, MR Obama, did not build that. Well, look he was against the Keystone Pipeline, correct? Yes. He was against remember in that in that the great week. I believe it was August of twenty sixteen. Where Hillary Clinton came out? No, no. It was I believe it was first Bernie Sanders. Said his goal was to kill the trucking jobs. Right. That was his goal. We're going to get rid of the trucking jobs in everything on rail and clear the roads out so we he was his goal was get rid of all the tracking jobs, which of course, we laughed at then Hillary Clinton came out and said she was going to kill the coal jobs. Remember a few weeks later. She didn't apologize to remember those are. So there was a coal miner or some that she had to apologize to forgot what it was. Yeah. She had to wasn't a quite a quite the beer summit that Obama had to do. Right. But yeah, she had a sit down with a coal miner, and essentially try and walk it back. And then it was then it was Obama in case people don't remember see we remember these things it was Obama than that killed drilling in the Atlantic. Even though it was approved by his administration by his EPA all the agencies that needed to approve drilling off the coast said, it's a go. It's a go. Go the press. Cancelled the oil drilling. Why? Global warming climate change yet the president's own words, and now he is trying to take credit. Bean. Well, remember was largest oil producer member wise deal because it was a deal with Canada. Remember, and they had made this pact. And remember what they were saying right after it was made. It can't be changed can't be reversed. And we were saying, yeah. Actually, a can't. It would it would take a little bit of doing. But. Yeah, it can. And they kept saying, no, no, no, no. This is forever or you can say that. But it is not forever. And but that was his policy that on federal land on the on everything within his administration's control. He was shutting down oil one of the first things. He did remember at the end of the Bush administration. It was the the oil up in Wyoming, bright and shale and Utah the shale the shale oil right that that the President Bush said, okay, let's go after it. Right. Obama administration came in this one of the first thing to do was shut it down. It was I think it was actually March two thousand nine I believe is when when he shot it down. Just a couple of months after taking office. But oil went up in spite of of him. He just can't stand it. But don't you love it? Because of me, he didn't say our administration because of me. And so if you if you support, and you believe Obama, but you also believe in, you know, the old the old, you know, drilling and oil and all of that is killing the planet. You gotta blame him. Yeah. Which which is it. Right. Can you have it both ways? Can you take can you take responsibility? As President Obama has. You know, we we we that was bragging by the way that was not saying, listen, it's gone up. And I'm responsible for it. But I'm not proud of it like a Bill Clinton would say, I I did it. But I'm not happy about it. I signed it. But I wish I had no Clinton would want to have it both ways. Yeah. I know that you know, we try to do everything against it. And and and you know, but but the oil production skyrocketed, and and people have jobs, and and so they had great really great jobs and gasoline prices all went down because of it. But but still I'm terribly torn by it. But the fact is that were good things that happened with it, even though we're destroying the planet. The same time that I regret doing. It's all give and take yet. No this. But this this is this is just flat out bragging bragging. Yeah. He's proud of the fact that he did that he said he did it. Here's here's quote, suddenly American quote. So we just played it. But just repeat again, suddenly, America's largest oil producer. That was me. People say, thank you. Exactly to him. So if he's responsible if Obama's response since climate change has been a big topic this week if Obama is stating that he alone. He didn't say our administration. He didn't say the oil producers. He said that was me he is taking sole responsibility. Yes. For oil production and the United States becoming the world's largest oil producer. Well, then it's Obama that's responsible for the climate change problems that we have not Trump, right? Which is it anybody on the left, which is it. Because if you support Obama, and you believe he's telling the truth, right? And you believe that oil is killing the planet. Well, then you're going to have to blame him for it. We're the largest oil producer. And he's the reason. Right. It's not even the oil companies. No. He's the reason he said it it was that was me people me. I don't even know they're actually a anybody else work. I don't know if there's one other person on working in the oilfields, I think he's doing all the work himself, by the way to our friend Carl that works, you know, in in in fracking, you had nothing to do with this. That's right. Take credit on your crew had nothing to do with as you can take you can keep taking that money and thank Ovambo because you're doing nothing. He did everything. Go cash that check in every time. You do say thank you Obama. Thank you. Hey, we didn't that wasn't a comedy bit. Someone. Doing a really great Obama impersonation. He said that. It's because of him. Nobody else gets the credit. Obama is responsible for the destruction of the earth from his own mouth. He's going to be at that twenty four hour thing without war, right? Same thing on the world stage. I doubt it. Yeah. President obama. Why don't you go on the twenty four seven Al Gore thing that's going on? Yeah. And right. You can introduce the Google dials. Right. And right before you can say, I'm responsible for the United States being the largest oil producer in the world. Yes. You. Should do that. He should do it between every act. And the people there should thank him. They the ones in the audience that live audience at rice. They did. Yeah. Sure. They applauded it. That was me. Thank you say. Thank you. Right. We're we're the protesters. Man Earth Day is going to be really great. What does that again? If you wanna know if you want to understand why it's all a con job. Obama. Yeah. Right there. Right. But he just says here's the thing. You guys all the protesters out there, the, you know, anti oil types, you kept pointing to Dick Cheney say, it wasn't even Bush. You Obama this serious? It's like, David Blaine. You just totally is this your card. That's exactly what that's what Obama just did. See you can't even blame Cheney. No, it was Obama. This is the greatest sleight of hand world history. We thought it was all Bush. You guys thought he was the cool. Save the earth guy. Nope. Nope. Nope. He's the reason Obama is the reason that the earth is doomed. That's right. He's the reason for the oil season. Eight six six he want to get him. We'd love to hear from you. Please. He was there with if I have my facts, right because I think I saw them all with my own eyes secretary Monet's and Wendy Sherman, the troika and I am confident that they met with their troika counterparts. Although one can perhaps secretary Kerry if my recollection with respect to that is accurate. I wasn't in the meeting, but I'm reasonably confident that he was not there in support of US policy with respect to the Islamic Republic of Iran who this week. Fired Katusha rockets. Towards the United States embassy in Baghdad and took action against our consulate in Bosra. Has it had an impact? Is it hurt your efforts? That's the word. I I've I've I think I think you understand what I wish it has that former secretary of state all of them from either political party ought not to be engaged in actively undermining US Paul actively undermining US policy as a former secretary of state is literally unheard of. None dare call it collusion. This is an ex Trump State Department official name Christian Whitten there used to be a saying that differences end at the water's edge. It was sort of considered uncouth to criticize the president at all that's gone by the wayside. But John Kerry leave it to John Kerry, take it to a whole new level. He met with Iran's foreign minister, this is the foreign minister, the senior diplomat from our biggest adversary in the Middle East also met with the Germans and the French didn't effort to undermine a president's foreign policy. It's really quite unconscionable. Would you see this is how? Democrats roll I told you about the letter that was sent to top officials during the one thousand nine hundred eighty four campaign. And Ted Kennedy wanted to let the Russian to know that the real danger was this guy named Ronald Reagan and suggested ways that Russia could improve their image. None dare call it collusion. What about when Senator? Barack Obama was running for president two thousand eight had conversations with the Iraqi Foreign Minister during the time that they were the Bush administration was trying to negotiate a stay behind force. Here's a headline from the telegraph. Barack Obama tried to undermine George W Bush's Iraq negotiations. Quote, Mr Obama, the democratic presidential candidate also said the deal should be delayed until Mr Bush out of office. According to Iraq's ambassador to the US delicious denied by Mr. Obama's campaign next sentence. The disclosures likely to raise questions over the propriety of a Mr Obama contact with the government of a country in which the current president is still conducting a war. Next sentence. It has been confirmed that Mr Obama spoke with Hosni Mubarak the rack foreign minister during Mr. safari visit to Washington in June, the talk which was at Mr. of request was carried over the phone because Mr Obama was still on the campaign trail. Iraqi ambassador to the United States quote in the conversation. The Senator urged Iraq to delay the deal between Iraq and the United States until the new administration was in place. He said that Mr Obama said, quote, the new administration will have a free hand to opt out close quote of the deal. The Obama people denied that Obama said. Listen to this quote spokesman at the White House and the embassy in Baghdad declined to comment close quote, and this is the difference between Trump and everybody else. The Trump administration is commenting on the meddling going on by John Kerry. Bush didn't say squat about what Obama did. Now. Was what Obama did? Was that collusion? The plea deal by Paul Manafort, how does that way on President Trump? Here's a conservative. Byron York said I don't see it that way. I think I think all this kind of talk that the Manafort is the big one. Now, you're gonna see progress and Trump or other people will be charged with collusion with Russia. I think that all of that is based on an assumption a belief that there is some big conspiracy between Trump and Russia that only Paul Manafort can reveal. But remember Robert Muller has had the cooperation of Paul manafort's closest associate Rick gates for months now, he said the cooperation of Michael Flynn who is President Trump's national security advisor during the campaign. He's he's had the cooperation of lots of people who haven't been charged with anything who were participants and they've willingly interviewed handed over documents Muller. So. In all of this Muller has not alleged or charged anyone with having any role in a conspiracy to collude with Russia to.

He's so arrogant and proud he's still thinks he's the president. What path president goes on tours and takes credit for other, presidents achievements. Two years later. I know who does that nobody I know except for Mr Obama. All right, Sandra. Good call. Appreciate it. As we say. Hi to Michael is in Hudson county, New York, Michael. Hey, good afternoon. Sean. How are you? I'm good. How are you, sir? Good, sean. I gotta tell you. It's very unsettling to see that. There is absolutely zero accountability for the Democrats. I mean case in point Cory Booker violated the law and should have been ousted, but the Republicans are not supporting Trump, and this man yet anything he does he's under a microscope, and they were attacking everything I mean when are the Republicans going to unite and stop this constant nonsense against the president. If they're ever gonna do it. Now's the time to do it. And I'll tell you why. Because we had an election and fifty seven days, I don't I don't feel the sense of urgency that gives me a level of comfort that people understand that this is really bad and that we'd better fix it. I don't have that yet. And unless and until I get it. You know, I'm going to be, you know, somewhat skeptical about what the outcome is going to be but fifty seven days a lot's going to happen between now. And then, hey, if you want the single best Cup of coffee you've ever had in your life. And you don't want to go to one of those left leaning corporate coffee brands that you know, what you walk in the door, and you feel like, oh, I can't worry where my maga- hat. "We're going to begin tonight with something we rarely see two presidents past and present on the campaign trail going off on each other. Former President Barack Obama broke with tradition today by calling out President Trump by name and telling students at the university of Illinois democracy itself is at stake in the midterm elections. Nancy Cortez says there are undermining our alliances cozying up to Russia. What happened to the Republican party? The forty fourth president re entered the political fray informatics fashion accusing his successor of stoking racial division was supposed to stand up to discrimination. And we're sure as heck supposed to stand up clearly and unequivocally to Nazi sympathizers. How hard can that be saying that Nazis are bad with control of congress at stake? President Obama argued the GOP has lost its way it did not start with Donald Trump. Here's a symptom not the costs. He's just capitalizing on resentments that politicians have been fanning for years. It was a striking turnaround for a man who initially vowed to help President Trump. And who in the mold of past presidents has largely stayed silent. Even as his successor slammed him, I inherited a mess. Obama. Didn't do anything today. Mr Obama sought to settle some of those scores. Let's just remember when this recovery started. Even bringing up that new op Ed by an anonymous top Trump official not doing us a service by actively promoting ninety percent of the crazy stuff that's coming out of this White House. And then saying don't worry, we're preventing the other ten percent. The current president pretended not to notice I watched it. But I fell asleep. I've found is very good. Very good for sleeping. I think he's done to take some credit. He was trying to take credit for this incredible thing that's happening to our country. This was just the first stop on. What? Obama aides promise will be a fall midterm blitz with visits already in the works to California, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Democrats have a shot at retaking the house this fall, and Mr Obama is still arguably their most effective messenger..

"Age in that conversation about collusion but in obstruction whether it has to do with jeff sessions or michael flynn or james komi he is center stage and so those are the ones that are the most interesting just in terms of of going right at the president and his presidency at lake take call now from saint louis missouri mark what's on your mind hi thanks for taking my call i'm i may be a little shortsighted but i kind of trade some of this back to mitch mcconnell statement when mr obama took the presidency that his republicans job was to make sure he didn't get reelected i mean how can anybody run a business or a company when people you're supposed to be working with just refuse to work with you so i think that's the problem with the cricket cricket at this point point john it's a great point it's and it's something i talk about in the article and this is why the the people who misunderstand and think that when you say the presidency is hard it is an excuse for one president or another they misunderstand because when you talk about mitch mcconnell in that case that's something the obama administration felt very keenly which is they didn't have a willing partner in in the republican leadership of of of congress and it's why those analogies between lyndon johnson and any president whether it's bush obama or trump fall flat if you think about ever dirksen who is the republican leader while johnson the president dirksen was a partner with with president johnson on a number of things and obviously mitch mcconnell was not in that same whether it was on nomination to scream court or or on legislation so one of the arguments about the difficulty with the presidency is the changing role of congress and so that would be a strong.
