"mr. bidwell" Discussed on The Dan Patrick Show

"And of course, you had the the great finish here. In atlanta. How nervous 'cause quarterbacks want the ball with the game on the line? You had to watch you had to watch as you know, Dyson nearly scores. The touchdown Mike Jones makes the tackle. What's it like on the sidelines when you have no control? Yeah. It's it's the worst thing in the world. You know, it's the worst thing in the world. But I I tell you it's when it works out in your favor. It's one of the best things in the world because we have the ultimate team sport is basketball team game. But you can play on both ends of the court in baseball. You can hit and field. You know? And so the hardest thing about football, you only get to play one way outside of obviously those rare exceptions. And so it becomes the ultimate team game. Is you have to do your part? And then you have to believe in expect your, you know, your teammates to do their part. And you know, it's the hardest thing. I left all three of my Super Bowls either tied or with the lead with less than three minutes to go in one and two and Super Bowls. But to have a defense or Mike Jones make the tackle in the defense come up with a stop it alternately brings you together to the point where you go. It takes a team to win Super Bowls. I mean, Tom Brady would tell you the same thing is that it could be or it could be eight. No, he could be eight because every game has come down to that one possession, and it takes both sides. So as hard as it was to sit back and watch. No, I've got no hand in this. You know, what happens from this point? I've got to sit and watch the beauty of that Super Bowl was that. I knew that we're case scenario where we're going to be tied. We're they weren't going to go for two. They were if they did score. We would get another opportunity in overtime. But yeah, it's the most helpless feeling of. But in the end, it's cool because you get to share that know everybody had a hand in winning that game. If I gave you a mulligan on the Pittsburgh loss or. New England lost New England without question. Because we didn't play our best game in. I think the bottom line when you play in this moment, I don't mind some in the Pittsburgh game was just a great game. Great players making great plays win. They needed to. We did everything you know, with two and a half minutes to go. I always say this for the first time in the history of our sport. People said Carl is going to be Super Bowl champs. And so we were in a place where we played well enough to win that Super Bowl against New England. We didn't play our best game, you know, credit New England they played well, they did what they headed. But we didn't play we had four hundred and fifty yards of offense in scored seventeen points. That is not the greatest show that was not who we were. And so that game I think about more than any other because you want in your biggest moment to play your best football. And we didn't do it on that day. And you know, there's so many moments that you know, that can change the outcome of the game. I I was I had the the fortune. I was handing out the Super Bowl trophy in the AirAsia Pittsburgh Super Bowl. So I'm on the sidelines. And I'm with Steve Young. So I'm standing next to Steve Young. As Ben gets the ball for the two minute drive rent. Steve Young is doing play by play to me about what Ben is doing. And he is he's so excited. He'd just saying. This is unbelievable. Like, he's is saying, you know, what this is what I would do. And then Ben would be doing. And then it was just playing out in real time. Because I thought you guys were going to win the Super Bowl. So I'm thinking, okay is going to be up there. Larry Fitzgerald's up there. Mr. Bidwell like I'm thinking who's up on the podium?.

"I always say this for the first time in the history of our sport people said the cardinals are going to be Super Bowl champs. And so we were in a place where we played well enough to win that Super Bowl against New England. We didn't play our best game credit New England they played. Well, they did what they headed. But we didn't play we had four hundred and fifty yards of offense and scored seventeen points. That is not the greatest show on. That was not who we were. And so that game I think about more than any other because you want in your biggest moment to play your best football. And we didn't do it on that day. And you know, there's so many moments that you know, that can change the outcome of the game. I I was I had the fortune. I was handing out the Super Bowl trophy in the Arab Zona Pittsburgh Super Bowl. So I'm on the sidelines. And I'm with Steve Young. So I'm standing next to Steve Young. As Ben gets the ball for the two minute drive. Right. Steve Young is doing play by play to me about what Ben is doing. Okay. And he is he's so excited. He'd just saying. This is unbelievable. He's he's saying, you know, what this is what I would do. And then Ben would be doing. And then it was just playing out in real time. Because I thought you guys were going to win the Super Bowl. So I'm thinking, okay, Warner is going to be up there. Larry FitzGerald up there. Mr. Bidwell, like I'm thinking who's up on the radio all of a sudden Benz here escapes here over here over here. Mrs central Neo homes in the end zone on the plane. Before. Yes. And then all of a sudden, he he connect Steve Young's going crazy because a quarterback watching a quarterback in that moment, which we all did in the backyard. And he said, you don't realize how great that was like, I'm in my mind. I'm going, okay. Mr rooney. I got coach you'll be up there. I got who's the MVP homes will be up there. I got Roth. And so I'm not even going. Well, that was unbelievable in my mind. I'm going I gotta get up on the podium and interview these people in front of one hundred million people, and it just you know, it unfolds like that so quickly. And then I thought Ben was going to be the MVP for that drive right there. But then I thought you were going to be the MVP or it'd be Larry was going to be the MVP. And it was just it was crazy. But that to me is what it's all about is. You know, I look back on my career, and you know, the Super Bowls and again one one loss to but I played in three the greatest Super Bowls that have ever been played Super Bowls that came down to the last minute. You know, you could say to the last play. And that's what it's all about two teams. Great players making plays when they need to make plays. And that's what I reflect on. It is that I got to see this start in at my, Spence. But I got to see the start of this Brady Belichick. Patriots dynasty that. I don't think we're ever going to see again, you know. So maybe it's not as painful now to go. We lost to that team. You know that that's been the nine Super Bowls. And then you have Pittsburgh won. I said it was great plays. I mean that that cash price of homes that's throw by Ben Rothlisberger. Just don't see that very often. So you just have to tip your hat and go, and that's what it's all about. And we didn't have the ball last. And they made the plays they needed to. So from that perspective you step back and go so grateful that of the games that I got the play on this stage. I can feel some frustration still there would you like to take out some frustration? I got mclovin. Mclovin. Do you want to catch some passes from Kurt Warner, which where am I getting Rams? Kurt Warner giants hundred forty seven years old. Oh. Kurt Warner giants. The giants. I can't even throw the football. We didn't even throw the football and off left hand. Maybe if it's the giants when he can throw the first couple of them. I think he lies in the green room. He could come in. I love it. I love it. You got a little sauce left in that arm. I might have a little left. Okay. All right. We'll take a break. Mclovin. Your receiver gloves. He gets. Like swing. Wait. Wait, you had a glove? That's true. But I don't have it today. I can get you need one. It's just like cheating with those things. That's performance enhancing my gas without a fight without a doubt. I mean, you see these guys. I mean, they're catching it with two fingers. Now, I mean, it's ridiculous. Through forty touchdowns a year to guys wearing gloves complaining because you're wearing. Kurt Warner NFL network analyst hall of Famer Super Bowl MVP, and you can see him eight and a half hour edition of NFL game day morning. I think it starts when you leave here because these guys wanted. Eight and a half hours. I wouldn't have to get up. So we're in the nine AM eastern on the NFL network. We'll come back if you're watching you can see Kurt Warner smoke, mclovin. Right. After this..

So as a head football coach, you know, you played under Tom Brady, you studied under Mike Leach now Kevin someone down at the U of what do you think is the head coach is the number one thing that's really going to distinguish you as the leader moving forward. Yeah. I think you know, work at going to be big they're gonna see my passion for the game being hands on. And then you gotta develop trust those guys who are veteran players. They're grown men. I've never met to to to wack jobs on the radio drive me around this valley known anybody might as well go with us. He got people over the are you kidding me? Cliff? Kingsbury is the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Looks like Ryan Gosling, the the one thing I like about him is he did not admit to crying during watching the notebook. Right. If he cried I don't want him as head coach. And he wanted to not like Tom Brady. I thought that was very revealing to I didn't want to like the guy anyways to perfect. Hey, Tom Brady is a lot. There's a lot of reasons say, hey, Tom Brady, I'll tell you. You know, it's it's kind of a gutsy call by the cardinals to hire him. Yeah. We don't know if he's going to be a good head coach in the NFL or not he doesn't have any NFL head coaching experience. But I think they're two guys that are pretty happy about this. "Up to be here. It's that resume that has folks talking Kingsbury has been the offensive coordinator with USC for the past month that after he was fired at Texas Tech where he spent seven seasons six of them as head coach. Compiling a losing record bringing in a new coach should have the fan base rejuvenated. So what is the reaction to Montemayor from fifteen eighty two fanatic, very mixed? It's holy cow. We just hired a coach who's great with quarterbacks or holy cow. We just hired a coach you got fired because he was terrible at being a head coach. And that tends to be the reaction guys because this has been a bad football team for several years in Steve Wilks, whether it was his fault or not just was perceived to be bad football coach. And so now you hired a guy that was fired and people have kind of the same reaction. So it really has been split not to fifty fifty the answer, but it really has been split. So I want to fail up to be a head coach the National Football League. If I interview really well over the phone and have a game plan, and that I can sell the guy on the other end of that game plan then that can be a coach in the NFL team. Is that what you telling me, Tim? That's how. Cliff kings became the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Right. But you said NFL football team. And we're talking about the Zona cardinals. Which is. As an NFL team. If we're being honest. I mean, this is a this right now is a dysfunctional franchise. They checked all the boxes they I feel like this process was not handled. Very well. Because we all knew they didn't want an older head coach who had been here and done that. And so everybody knew as soon as cliff Kingsbury was able to negotiate his way out or quit, or whatever that was it USC as soon as he became clear, we were all very sure he was going to be the head coach of the cardinals because they Freddie they really talked about. Hey, he's great with quarterbacks. He's friends with Sean McVeigh. He's the next coach of our team outside of the infrastructure, instability, or lack of talent evaluation. Th there's on cardinals gig right now done seem like one of the worst ones. Number one pick. Then you've got Josh Rosen. David johnson. Number one, the waiver wire order, you got what seventy million dollars worth of cap space. How would you stack this job as as opposed to the other ones that have opened up or getting ready to open up when this team wins? Jason this is a great job. But here's here's the issue. You talk about that seventy million dollars cap space. It's all about what you do with it. Right. And you talk about this number one pick. They don't need one player to transform this franchise. But you really trust Steve time the embattled general manager you really trust him to make a trade and get two picks for the one pick and then dressed needs. When he's failed to draft any real major talents based on what you said about the resume Steve Khan house. How does he still have a job as a general manager of an NFL team? Well, his owner is Michael Bidwell. The problem is the owner is really close with his general manager. They are they are very good friends when that DUI happened. Everybody thought that he was getting wacked. He was going to get. Fired. There's no question about it. Ford raptor that he was driving from a partner of the team a dealership while he misrepresented who he was if you go to YouTube and watch the video he was a flagrant DUI. Like, it was everything that gets you fired yet. He didn't get fired. And that's the minute. You knew that the personal relationship between Mr. Bidwell and Steve time was rock solid, and he wasn't going anywhere. And this team guys his backslid for three years. I don't know what Steve time we'll have to do to get fired if clip if maybe if Kingsbury just falls flat on his face. So what what does cliff Kingsbury has to do with his staff? Now who is he going to bring his kind of late in the game? Wh what are the stat? What does the staff going to look like essentially guys what what we've learned tonight? He Bruce Arians put the Arizona Cardinals band back together. Because he he took Byron left which. Actually, I thought did a very nice job with this team. Well, he's now the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And they in my opinion, he's going to have to assemble his friends on offense. I think they trust trust cliff with the offense. The question is can you call Vance Joseph today and say, hey, why don't you come be our defensive coordinator you've got head coaching experience. You're a defensive genius because he is in my opinion is the best available defensive coordinator. That's the guy they need their. That's what they need. And I think that's the kind of guy they have to have. And I think they're going to have heavy influence on the defensive coordinator. And they're special teams have to get better. Of the eight openings we had of the NFL Arezzo. Had been considered one of the lesser attractive openings with the franchise front office structure playing a major role as for Tampa Bay. It's hiring former cardinals coach Bruce Arians as you heard. He'll be building a staff similar to what he had in Arizona, Todd Bowles. Former jets coach will be his defensive coordinator both of those head coaching hires though seemingly done with their quarterbacks in mind how Green Bay. Packers were one of three teams to lose to AirAsia. This season really seem to precipitate the coaching change in Green Bay. Matt leflore will be the Packers new coach if we dust for prints on that higher. Do we find Aaron Rodgers fingerprints ESPN Packers reporter robbed Matzke team? President Mark Murphy said right away from the beginning that Rogers was not going to have a role in this search. But that doesn't mean that the higher was not made specifically with Rogers in mind. In fact, one source in the building told me that the most important thing in this coaching hire is getting someone who can mesh with Aaron Rodgers and while the floor and Rogers have no history together the two quarterbacks he worked west that. You mentioned Matt Ryan and fellow Cal alum Jared Goff same school as Rogers Rogers is good friends with both of those guys, and you can bet that he's already talked to those guys about the floor. The floor is going to be introduced right here in this very room tomorrow as the head coach, and they're setting up for that press conference. Right now, Keith, and you can imagine that most of the questions will be directed at how the floor is going to get Aaron Rodgers back to being well Aaron Rodgers again thirty nine year old man floor spent this season as the offensive coordinator of the titans. His first calling plays in the NFL. He had been the offensive coordinator for the Rams and twenty seventeen. Sean McVay though, called the plays Jason wile E. S P N in Milwaukee earlier on ESPN radio. The Packers historically have not hired the sizzling candidate. Right. I mean, the coach I haven't gone through many coaching searches. Because Mike McCarthy spent thirteen years of by twenty three years on the team the coach so that's not necessarily of away from the norm for the Packers to take someone who maybe isn't the hot candidate in nineteen Ninety-two. They got the guy that everyone was after and Michael I mean, everybody wanted him that is not the case here. But I do think that given his history with Sean McVay and with Kyle Shanahan and Joe Thomas does our show with us. But he raves about how Shanahan pile Shanahan, and Sean McVay of had that kind of imports on that before I think Matt leflore probably deserves the benefit of the doubt matter how the titans offense ranked this past season. I have to ask because you look at LA Flers background three quarterback coach gig and his connection to that position lead you to believe that this was mostly hiring done with Aaron Rodgers in mind. And is that smart when you've got a veteran quarterback who can maybe do. A lot on his own versus paying attention to a much more terribly ranked and problematic defense while they clearly went into this planning on going offense. Right. They interview ten candidates eight of them had offense of backgrounds only Bryant Flora's, and Chuck we're work defensive-minded head coach candidates. So they obviously wanted to go that direction. I think part of it too was that they really liked like Patton as their defensive coordinator this year, and they were hoping that he would stay on. It sounds like in talking to a couple of people outside and inside the building that is the plan for Mike Padma stick around about leflore. In fact, even venture. His desire to do that in his interview. Apparently with Mark Murphy and Brian. But it's all about making Aaron Rodgers great again. And I am of the belief that Aaron Rodgers skills have not diminished significantly or even a small about maybe a tiny little bit. But the more significant thing was that this offense, obviously was struggling that his relationship with Mike because he was what it was several years ago. They had the very public situation where after they beat the bills twenty two September thirtieth Rogers step to the podium and basically ripped the game plan and talk about how they had a playoff at another ship put up double the number of yards. They had double the number of points. And after that kind of wondered if they had writing on the wall by McCarthy lasted eight more games before he was fired. So I do think that their thought process was we have to get Aaron Rodgers back to being a Rogers and Matt leflore BUSTER. Part of the interview do you think Aaron Rodgers will have respect for a guy as young and inexperienced as him? I do I think that he wants to be coached. I just don't necessarily want it to be coast. Aren't they? In addition to the titans, and the Rams leflore has a decade of NFL coaching experience. Also had stints in Atlanta, Washington and Houston he'll be officially introduced Wednesday in Green Bay. Get triple extra protection for optimal engine performance with shell v. Power nitro plus premium gasoline, Matt leflore spending 2017 with the Rams, and Sean McVay Rams are hosting the Cowboys this weekend in NFC playoff action. ESPN Rams reporter Lindsey theory was a much needed by the Rams held a couple of light practice is really just to kind of freshen up their legs. Get them back under them and continue that rehab four Todd Gurley. Now, he has been dealing as you said with inflammation and soreness in his left knee that kept him sidelined the final two weeks out over the bye week. Girly continued to rehab that knee, and Sean McVeigh told me that he even participated in a light jog through on Sunday. So that would have been his first action in a couple of weeks. Now, they do expect that girly will play. Saturday. But he told me that he definitely wants to get in a couple of practices this week. Just to see how he's feeling before he has to play for the game. Now, even though girly is expected to the play. The Rams do have a reliable backup and veteran. C J Anderson who they signed with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. Now Anderson rush for well over one hundred yards against both the forty Niners in cardinals prove that he was also very reliable and pass protection. So of girly needs a little bit of a lighter load. They can rely on that veteran backup. One more. No going into Saturday's game against the Cowboys safety. Lamarcus Joyner who was out in week seventeen. Because of an ankle injury. Also is expected to go Rams with thirteen wins in the regular season. Cowboys finished atop the NFC east with ten wins. ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer Wendy is first trip to the LA Coliseum twenty sixteen preseason game. That was the first time we really got a read on what he could be. If you remember when training camp open. Was the number three quarterback Kellen? Moore was the backup broke his leg. The first week of training camp. As a veteran Romo wasn't going to play in that first preseason game. So the job fell to Prescott he goes out there ten of twelve passes through to touchdown two touchdowns in his work. And all of a sudden the Cowboys saying, hey, maybe we got something here. Well couple of weeks later Romo breaks his back. He takes job fulltime. And we'd known what he's what he's been since that point. I spoke to Travis Frederick in the locker Monday about that game. He said when when Prescott came in the huddle as remarkable poise composure and really had a felt like this was the moment. Okay. We're going to be fine. If we need this guy. Well, he's been fine ever since. And now he's got the Cowboys and the division around for the second time in three years, and he hopes his next trip to the Coliseum is as good as his first trip. Cowboys and Rams primetime game on Saturday after the AFC match up between the colts. And the chiefs at Arrowhead. Sunday's action includes the chargers and patriots. And then the eagles and saints from. The superdome. Straight ahead. Is that a shift? We felt in college football. Sportscenter allnight continues. It's ESPN radio..

"App, Sirius XM channel eighty four NFL match ups this weekend as we are down to the last eight teams standing this season. There were eight coaching vacancies as well. But those have been pared down also madly Florida the Packers then Tuesday, the buccaneers turned Bruce Arians and the cardinals tab of Kingsbury is this a dream come true to be coaching the NFL kind of what are your thoughts at this moment. It really is going to be a part of such an incredible organization here in Phoenix just fired up excited to get my hands on the players and the into it. What intrigued you about the cardinals? Yeah. Right now, Keith, and you can imagine that most of the questions will be directed at how the floor is going to get Aaron Rodgers back to being well Aaron Rodgers again thirty nine year old model of floors spent this season as the offensive coordinator of the titans. His first calling plays in the NFL. He had been the offensive coordinator for the Rams in two thousand seventeen. Sean McVay though called the plays Jason wild from ESPN in Milwaukee earlier on ESPN radio the Packers systematically have not hired the sizzling candidate. Right. I mean, the coach I haven't gone through many coaching searches because Mike McCarthy spent thirteen years of my twenty three years on the team coach. So that's not necessarily a away from the norm for the Packers to take someone who maybe isn't the hot candidate in nineteen Ninety-two. They got the guy that everyone was after and Michael I mean, everybody wanted him that is not the case here. But I do think that given his. History with Sean McVay and with Paul Shanahan. And Joe Thomas does our show with us. But he raves about how Shanahan Kyle Shanahan, and Sean McVay of had that kind of imports on that look for I think Matt leflore probably deserves the benefit out. No matter. How titans offense ranked this past season? I have to ask because you look at look Flers background three quarterback coach gig and his connection to that position lead you to believe that this was mostly a hiring done with Aaron Rodgers in mind. Is that smart when you've got a veteran quarterback who can maybe do a lot on his own versus paying attention to a much more terribly ranked and problematic defense. Well, they clearly went into this planning on going offense. Right. They interview ten candidates eight of them had offense of backgrounds only. Bryant Flora's Chuck. Donna work defense of minded head coach candidates. So they obviously wanted to go that direction. I think part of it too was that they really liked like as their defensive coordinator this year. They were hoping that he would stay on. It sounds like in talking to a couple of people outside and inside the building at that is the plan for Mike Padma stick around about leflore. In fact, even venture is desire to do that in his interview apparently with Mark Murphy, and Brian so it's all about making Aaron Rodgers great again. And I am of the belief that Aaron Rodgers skills have not diminished significantly or even a small about maybe a tiny little bit. But the more significant thing was that this offense, obviously was struggling that his relationship with Mike McCarthy was what it was several years ago. They had the very public situation where after they beat the bills twenty. September thirtieth Rogers step to the podium and basically ripped the game plan and talked about how they had a playoff. They should put up double the number of yards. They had double the number of points. And after that kind of wondered if they have writing on the wall, Mike McCarthy lasted eight more games before he was fired. So I do think that their thought process was we have to get Aaron Rodgers back to being a Rogers, and Matt leflore must've knocked it out of the park. And the interview do you think Aaron Rodgers will have respect for a guy as young and inexperienced as him? I do I think that he wants to be coached. I just wanted to be close, aren't they? "To be here. It's that resume that has folks talking Kingsbury has been the offensive coordinator with USC for the past month that after he was fired Texas Tech where he spent seven seasons six of them as head coach compiling a losing record bringing in a new coach should have the fan base rejuvenated. So what is the reaction Tim Montemayor from fifteen eighty two fanatic, very mixed? It's holy cow. We just hired a coach who's great with quarterbacks or holy cow. We just hired a coach you got fired because he was terrible at being a head coach. And that tends to be the reaction guys because this has been a bad football team for several years in Steve Wilks, whether it was his fault or not just was perceived to be a bad football coach. If I interview really well over the phone and have a game plan, and that I can sell the guy on the other end of that game plan can be a coach in the NFL team. Is that what you're telling me, Tim? That's how cliff kings may became the head coach of the hours on the cardinals. Right. But you said NFL football team. And we're talking about the Zona cardinals. Which is just short. You talk about that seventy million dollars cap space. It's all about what you do with it. Right. And you talk about this number one pick. They don't need one player to transform this franchise. But do you really trust Steve time, the embattled general manager, you really trust him to make a trade and get two picks for the one pick and then addressed needs when he's failed to draft any real major talents based on what you said about the resume. Steve how's the how does he still have a job as a general manager of an NFL team? Well, his owner is Michael Bidwell. The problem is the owner is really close with his general manager. They are they are very good friends when that DUI. Happened. Everybody thought that he was getting wacked. He was going to get fired. There's no question about it. He was in a Ford raptor that he was driving from a partner of the team a dealership while he misrepresented who he was if you go to YouTube and watch the video he it was a flagrant DUI. "Out Missouri while Michigan state was easy winner over her due North Carolina taken down NC state ninety two eighty to that one. In Raleigh coaching news around the NFL bucks finalizing a deal to make Bruce Arians their next head coach cliff Kingsbury next coach of the Arizona Cardinals and Adam Schefter reporting the New York Jets, the only job that former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will pursuit. Coming up on Wednesday, the NFL regular season may be over. But that doesn't mean my power rankings are your weekly dose of a top five ish list. Plus, he's a Saint in Philadelphia. So could it be a savior for the giants? Golden winged. Wednesday, six eastern ESPN radio. ESPN two. Jason for infants Simmons. Joining me, Freddie. Coleman on Freddie and Fitz Simons on ESPN radio and the ESPN app presented by progressive insurance. Let's take a look at the last thirty five days for cliff kings. Berg five by Texas. The head coach was named the offense coordinator USC, then all of a sudden the Arizona Cardinals came calling. And now he's the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, Adam Schefter, ESPN NFL insider how much did the cardinals want the king. Once he was headed to Arizona from his interview with the New York Jets. There was no doubt. He was going to be the Arizona Cardinals head coach because he was somebody the cardinals have been targeting all along they were determined to hire a young offensive minded. Hey, coach with Xs and os ability, and they believe that clicks Kingsbury is that guy. Okay. So Tim Montemayor is the guy. He's the host of fifteen eighty the panic and Phoenix can't wait to get his thoughts on cliff Kingsbury being the cardinals head coach he joins us here in the SPN radio. Thanks to shell Pennzoil performance. Line sim. The easy question is what has been the. Reaction in Arizona to this move. What is the answer very mixed? It's holy cow. We just hired a coach who's great with quarterbacks or holy cow. Just hired a coach you got fired because he was terrible at being a head coach. And that tends to be the reaction guys because this has been a bad football team for several years in Steve Wilks, whether it was his fault or not just was perceived to be a bad football coach. And so now you hired a guy that was fired and people have kind of the same reaction. So it really has been split fifty fifty the answer, but it really has been split. Now. The Josh Rosen has the helm, and is no no more wondering if he's going to be the guy going forward. I was actually viewing his his debut when he took on the bears and got thrown in the kind of a no win situation. What is left for cliff Kingsbury to show Josh Rosen, or is he is he coach avoid all those things that we read in his draft profile. Have they bared any fruit? He's very. Coach -able Jason. And I think one of the best parts about this higher. Is it you can see a lot of things about cliff Kingsbury, the Texas Tech head coach he couldn't recruit he was just not very charismatic with the media say all the things you want. He's awesome coaching quarterbacks. He is young. He is dynamic. I don't know. If you guys saw the press release the cardinals put out, but it was very clearly in the press release. It literally said he's very close with Sean McVeigh like in the press release. So they wanted the young dynamic next, Sean McVeigh. But when you talk about Josh Rosen. I think his biggest problem is he so scared of the pass rush that he tends to Russia's mechanics if they can just slow him down a little bit. And I do think he and cliff Kingsbury will be a perfect match. And the one thing that really impressed. The cardinals about cliff Kingsbury was he showed up ready to talk about Josh Rosen. He showed up after having watched tape. He had a clear plan for what he was going to do to make Josh Rosen a better quarterback. And I think that he did that in phone calls. He didn't do that today when they flew him out. That's why the moment he left New York. He was going to be the head coach of the cardinals to Montemayor buddy of Ausman fifteen eighty two fanatic and Phoenix Jason Goffin, Freddie. Coleman, Freddie Fitzsimmons in ESPN radio. So so basically what you're telling me that if I want to fail up to be a head coach in the National Football League. If I interview really well over the phone and have a game plan, and that I can sell the guy on the other end of that game plan then that can be a coach in the NFL team. Is that what you're telling me, Tim? That's how Josh that's how. Cliff kingsway became the head coach of the hours on the cardinals. Right. But you said NFL football team. And we're talking about the Zona cardinals. Which is. As an NFL team for being honest. I mean, this is this right now is a dysfunctional franchise. And they checked all the boxes with all due respect to Jim Caldwell who seems to be interviewing with everybody. Hey, he's great with quarterback. He's friends with Sean McVeigh. He's the next coach of our team. It was really that. Simple. So yeah. Maybe failing up 'cause again, not to be redundant. But he was a terrible recruiter at Texas Tech. Yeah. He doesn't know much about defense that much is very clear. Oh, by the way, what are the other things? The cardinals loved about him is he was open to allow. Hiring them to have influence over who he hired as his defensive coordinator in his special teams coordinator. And they know who this guy is they feel like Steve time feels like he knows who this guy is. And I think they're very comfortable with him making sure that Rosen's a quarterback outside of the infrastructure, instability, or lack of talent evaluation. Th there's cardinals gig right now done seem like one of the worst ones. Number one pick. Then you've got Josh Rosen. David johnson. You got your number one the waiver wire order, you got what seventy million dollars worth of cap space. How would you stack this job as as opposed to the other ones that have opened up or getting ready to open up when this team wins? Jason this great job. But here's here's the issue. You talk about that seventy million dollars cap space. It's all about what you do with it. Right. And you talk about this number one pick you have Haskins coming out. So now you have their marquee quarterback. That might excite somebody. They don't need Nick Bosa. They don't need one player to transform this franchise. But do you really trust Steve time, the embattled general manager, you really trust him to make a trade and get to picks for the one pick and then address needs when he's failed to draft any real major talents. I mean, we're talking about guys like Robert Kim who they are. Sure was going to be the next Darnell docket, and he has been anything, but Darnall docket. He's been the the one hundred eighty degree opposite. That's the could you trust your general manager. And I think it's very hard in this league to ask any potential coach and say, yeah, I trust. Steve I maintain that Marvin Lewis may not have won. But he never won a playoff game. And he kept his job for what sixteen seasons. That's stability. Arizona doesn't have stability when they make a tear. No, no offense to Steve Wilks. He was not ready to be an NFL head coach. It's not his fault. He got a great job that he wasn't qualified for because we'd all take the money in the opportunity. It was a bad hire. And that's the question. Do you trust? Steve Tim Montemayor from fifteen eighty two fanatic and Phoenix with Freddie Coleman and Jason go potty, Freddie and Fitz Simons on ESPN radio based on what you said about the resume of Steve com. House. How does he still have a job as a general manager of an NFL team? Well, his owner is Michael Bidwell. And Michael who by the way, it needs to be said is not his father Bill Michael has one. Remember, Bruce Arians was thirteen and three with this team not too long ago and then twenty sixteen in two thousand seventeen happened. So the ownership is good. The problem is the owner is really close with his general manager. They are they are very good friends when that DUI happened. Everybody thought that he was getting wacked. He was going to get fired. There's no question about it. He was in. Did you guys know what a Ford raptor is? Of course, the big pickup truck afford raptor that he was driving from a partner of the team a dealership while he misrepresented who he was if you go to YouTube and watch the video he it was a flagrant DUI. Like, it was everything that gets you fired yet. He didn't get fired. And that's the minute. You knew that the personal relationship between Mr. Bidwell and Steve time was rock solid, and he wasn't going anywhere. And this team guys his backslid for three years from thirteen and three to a five hundred team five hundred team in alverson. You can't even win games. Unless you're going to get Mike McCarthy fired at Green Bay. I mean, it's amazing. So he I don't know what Steve time we'll have to do to get fired if clip maybe if Kingsbury just falls flat on his face and he's awful and they win one game. I don't know because this isn't the job, by the way, they say this is the best available job in the NFL. The Arizona Cardinals the owner of the team Michael Bidwell sat at a press conference. It said this is the best job in the NFL. And I don't know who believed him because it clearly in my opinion is the worst job in the NFL that was open. So what did he what is cliff Kingsbury has to do with his staff? Now have there been talks about who's going to stay the entire staff going who is he going to bring his kind of late in the game. What what are the stat? What does the staff going to look like did he address that in the press conference? He did not essentially guys what what we've learned tonight. Thanks to all of our good friends in Adam Schefter is bad. Yeah. He Bruce Arians put the band back together because he he took Byron left, which who actually I thought did a very nice job with this team for a guy that didn't have a lot of experience. You know, he he filled in a tough spot when they fired Mike McCoy he stepped right in there. And did okay. And he may have failed as a head coach. But guys, I think if Dirk cutters getting a job as an offensive coordinator in Atlanta tonight. Right. You don't have to be a great head coach to be a superb coordinator the guy they need there. And you know, what else they need? They need a guy like Vance Joseph. Who's not necessarily gonna put a dagger? In Kingsbury is back every time they have a disagreement. That's what they need. And I think that's the kind of guy they have to have. And I think they're gonna have heavy influence on the defensive coordinator. And they're special teams have to.

"Our regularly scheduled program already in private businessman. He is a billionaire. He knows how to make money. What he doesn't know? How to do is run a basketball team? He is a mess. He is a bad owner. This has been a mess for nine years. You know, we certainly miss the days of Colangelo. There's no question about it. The sons put a terrible team on the court for the last nine years haven't made the playoffs. And I think that that's part of it. Now, you're saying, okay. We know we're lousy. We know we can't fill the arena. Okay. But we still want money. All right. That may be listening. There might I don't know what upgrades are going to be done. Right. We're gonna actually at five thirty today. We're gonna talk to the president of the sons, and we're gonna ask him that question. Why what's wrong with the arena right now? Do you need all these upgrades? Are you talking about you formica countertops, and you want granite or marble, or is it really structural issues? Don't see where we go to a game could be. So what what we're looking at is two hundred and thirty million dollars in how it's split. And we know that a poll was taken in sixty six percent of taxpayers and Phoenix say, yeah, I don't want that Bill is that why the council has decided or will decide they'll vote after two thirty to delay the vote. What are they gonna vote on today? Well, they know they don't have enough votes to pass it. They're going to vote to delay the vote, right? So they're gonna vote to delay the vote now is that a tactic to start negotiations with server or is that kicking the can until we have a an elected mayor because we still don't know who the true mayor is of Phoenix yet. That'll be run. All right. Or is there something else? Do they have to convince other council members me personally, let them go? Do not pass this Bill at all you want to delay it fine. But but I I gotta tell you living through the Baltimore Colts leaving town watching the Arizona Cardinals becoming the Zona cardinals. Watching the Browns move and become the ravens people are sick. And and those are just three recent ex three examples history is replete with teams being held hostage and owners threatening to move. Let them move do not fall for this. And I know it would be a hit. I know it would be. It wouldn't it wouldn't be devastating to the point. Where Phoenix was lose its identity. The league would not let the Phoenix Suns logo, and and the ring of honor and all the trademark stuff go we get another team in expansion. You don't know when we don't know when it could be the decade. But never server has not made a compelling argument that he likes this community. He's invested in this community. He ain't no Jerry Colangelo. No one is let. You can't compare. It hasn't even tried to ingratiate himself into the community. It's not true is charity work. That's not true. Yeah. Charity work, but he has no vision for a community here. And when you say, I'm gonna leave if you don't give me what you want. Let them go because he'll never be happy. If you let them stay. It's all a negotiation. I mean, I'm not ready to let this team go. And I'll tell you this. I know they're terrible. And they've been bad for a while. This the sons are really Arezzo Anna's first team. You're right. I mean, the coyotes the diamond bag the cardinals all came what in the s compared to the son's who are here in the sixties. Yeah. I mean, the the Phoenix Suns. Are there an institution, right? Okay. Are the bad. Yes. Have they been bad for awhile? Yes. Are they run terribly? Yes. But you gotta think about it. You gotta go past that teams have their ups and downs. That's the way to I mean, if you look at the New England Patriots weren't the New England Patriots in the eight holes for a long time. And now look at him. They're there I hate to use the example because I hate him. But you know, there are always competitive. Well, right now, the sons are not. Competitive. But here's the thing. What about the economy in China? Well, really downtown Phoenix hotels. They'll lose money. You know, the sun's havoc forty one home games. That's forty one times people from other teams staying in a hotel. That's forty one home games. Where fans go down to the stadium. They purchase a bunch of stuff. They go out to eat. If you get rid of them, if you get rid of the sons, you're going to take a big hit. And what I'm saying is do I like the deal? Currently, no Phoenix pays under and fifty sons pay do I like that? No, no. But am I going to go where you're going into say, hey, let's just get rid of a malicious leave? No, no, no, no, no. Let's negotiate a fair deal. Can we fifty fifty? Can we do fifty fifty? If server was willing to do fifty way. I mean, right. But it comes down to you. You mentioned the patriots and other organizations one. Right. But it comes down to the owner. Let Seattle have server let's Seattle to deal with him. Get new ownership don't know when but did Seattle crumble crater into the ground after they lost the SuperSonics and became the Oklahoma thunder. No did Houston crumble after they lost the Oilers, and they went to Tennessee. No. This has happened before in our history. I get what you're saying. But I'm not looking at the sons as a team, I'm looking at the owner get rid of the cancer that is this owner, let another team fall for his b s or whatever and deal with a petulant child. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of dealing with people who say, I'm a billionaire, but I need your money. Really? Well, I'm sick and tired of that. You also have to think of it this way, you know, if we if we said that all those years ago with Bill Bidwell who ran the cardinals into the ground every single year, if we said just get rid of them just get rid of and just get rid of them. Just get rid of them. Well, we wouldn't have Larry FitzGerald here. Arizona. We wouldn't have a cardinals team that was quite competitive for a while. No, no, no disrespect to Mr. Bidwell, his son who revolutionized the car. That's true. Server son, you'll have to wait what I'm saying is what I'm saying is bad owners. Don't always stick around and Bill Bidwell didn't know how to run a team Michael Bidwell. He knows how to run a team. I think Arizona's lucky to have the guy and the cardinals even though the horrible this year. There's still a big ticket. They're still the team actually. Absolutely. And wouldn't have wanted us to just cave and say all those years ago. Well, now, we're not going to help you build that stadium. Why don't you just go? I enjoy the stadium. I enjoy the cardinal. I think a lot. I gotta tell you though, if you're if you're a Redskins fan, there are a lot of people who are now asking asking the NFL to take the team away from the owner because he runs it so horrible the NBA can do that here. That's what I mean. Make it to the point where fans the public says cheese, David silver. Would you please take away from from? Sorry. I just don't want to go down your road. I don't want them to leave even though they're terrible. I don't want them to leave. It's I don't know when we'll get another team back. You got restaurants down there that might end up closing. You gotta hotels. It'll be hurt hurt. So let's negotiate something and we'll find out later. They're going to vote to delay. They were supposed to vote. Are we going to give you the money today? Now, they're gonna vote to delay. And then January twenty dollars back door deals. Hopefully, we'll start and there'll be a fair, and let's see what happens. Yeah. 'cause should taxpayers be stuck with this. Absolutely. Not..

I don't think that's I don't think that's in the in the play in the mix. But he does want renovations to that arena. And now the city council has to figure out. Okay. How much taxpayer money? "Jim you're not the boss of us around here. Five AM members, gentlemen. Good morning. So you have the elephant in the room if you will. Right. It was the Patrick Peterson situation there and coach looks just opened up his press conference regarding Patrick Peterson patching. I had a great conversation. Other day. I will keep the details of that conversation between Patrick, and I we're all frustrated right now. Based off the situation that we're in one in six not only a conversation with the head coach. But the team president as well. You know, I talked to Mr. Bidwell every day. We're in a good place. Like, I said we move from what happened the other day? I think we would definitely have a clear understanding that going on. Yeah. The brand new offense out there at least the new offensive coordinator. So lots of storylines for a team that's one in six as for the songs. Not only. Did they lose one thirty one thirteen to team LeBron but seven guys the Lakers didn't double figures, LeBron three rebound shy of a triple double? Not a lot of effort out there. We'll get into that this morning. Exactly what happened with his sons last night Steph curry eleven three pointers only played through three quarters in this game fifty one he scored in that one Red Sox beat the dodgers again lead the series two nothing for two as your final there. Red skies. Red Sox scored all four runs with two outs in the game. So and then you have the kite is going at it tonight against the conduct seven o'clock and ESPN six twenty AM, and that is sports focusing on KTAR news, get some perspective with Bruce in panel at explosive devices delivered. Political figures in news organizations. Politicians calling to meet incivility with more incivility. It's a race to the bottom right now. And I'm scared as to where it goes laxed Bruce.

"And when I tweeted this out, people like middlekauff you are an idiot, listen guys. I said it with a roll, Thomas defense of players. Typically, teams are. Not comfortable giving guys, a third contract, especially post thirty. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. That doesn't mean guys historically have gone on half success. Ray Lewis played forever. Julius peppers played forever and a high level von Miller might. And I think he's still, I think he could still play because of his style of play for three or four years, but Elway's going nowhere without a quarterback. He's going to win six games. Let's say for the second straight year last year was even worse. They were drafting the top five, but von Miller is our best player, but they have no quarterback. So they literally have no chance. Now you have a chance if you're playing the gutless, heartless, Arizona Cardinals on a Thursday I game you do, but for their franchise to ever take next step in just in her who I think if he does come out again, there are a lot of variables in this scenario, but my ultimate point is the one thing that Elway is going to happen is back pocket. Instead of instead of having to three first round picks, he could potentially hit the reset button in use Vaughn. Miller as trade bait and basically just have to flip flop picks with team like the forty Niners would not be able to turn that down. Would that be more interesting to a team like the forty Niners who are kind of ready made in their mind with grapple common back thinking about winning, then it would be like if the giants from pick five would give you two first round picks, and I tweeted back everyone that called me crazy the way the reason teams, there's no even guarantee that the Niners would say, yes, because teams value costs controlled assets more than more than not more than for sure, older players. Now, I think von Miller is somewhat of an outlier with your team like the forty Niners that are desperate for a pass rusher. But if the Niners were to get the number one pick again, and I think just watching this game again, you have to remember the cardinals beat the forty Niners a couple of weeks ago in San Francisco by double digits. Now it was a close game in the fourth quarter, but still. Like I think everyone's thinking the cardinals are the worst team in the league, the Niners loss of them and the cardinals are bad. But here's another thing if the cardinals were to get the number one overall pick. And I think when you look around the NFL the four five teams that are really going to be in the mix, the only team that doesn't have a quarterback is the New York Giants, and let's face it. There are a little bit like the Broncos that their town, they're going to end up winning three or four, maybe five games. They just have too much talent there. They're definitely going to win a couple more like I cannot say that about the cardinals or the Niners. Well, both even the cardinals have quarterback. Now I'm Josh Rosen guy. He looked terrible the night, but I'm not selling stock on the Hebrew hammer just yet. Mike McCoy looks terrible. Their whole operation is just messed up and it's really been screwed up from the jump since Bruce Arians retired. The general manager got a d. y. spent for five games. It's one thing when your general manager and you sit with the owner when times are good. Like when you got Bruce Arians. And you're winning a tan, eleven twelve games like those are fun time. Hey, Mr. Bidwell, this is sweet poor another diet coke. It's another thing when you. I mean they showed him once I do be completely candid. I turned the game off in the fourth quarter, just Lakers game that Red Sox too many other sweet games. The Stanford Arizona state game, which actually I started this podcast after that, but there was one scene when it would when it went forty, five ten, did they go to the cardinals box? And you know, it's trouble when the owner has his wireless apple your phone in like, I don't know, man it. It was not a good look..

"Casey raised a fist during the anthem for the past two years, and he seems like he's ready to violate the new rule. Let's take a listen. I'm gonna protest during the flag say, now I'm taking my so it is what it is. I'm going to stop me doing what I wanna do. They wanna have these battles between players in organization was going to be for ninety? Ninety five percent of your team to be minorities. You can't understand what we come from. Pretty mine to me. I'm gonna do what I do. Gonna bring to my community, bring to to people out there that need attention. That's all about respect that Shannon, what is your reaction would really be dad. I commend him for this because he's saying. What I'm doing is all I'm doing. I'm bringing attention highlighting issues that's going on in our communities and NFL for you not to understand when so many of the players are African American and we're trying to bring issues to those communities because without us doing this, sometimes we think those voices are not gonna get hurt that life not gonna get shine in that direction. So you can see the injustices that go on every single day. So he said, I'm gonna continue to do this now. I don't know if last year he raised his fist above his head, so I don't even know maybe that might not even be a fine skip clearly with. They're trying to what they're saying. Yeah, we don't want you kneeling during the national anthem. So I don't know they and the players association have filed a lawsuit against the NFL about this about this issue. So we, they haven't said was a finding whatever we want. You basically show him back to the flag and if you're not going to stand, but pretty soon because this is the slippery slope that you get on, I, they want you to stay. And then they want you to take your helmet off, then they're going to put the helmet in your left arm. They don't want to put your hand over your heart. They want you to buy. 'cause it's never gonna. Stop, give his never gonna be enough. So what's enough? What if showing respect to the flash thought, you know, lonely, you're not stepping on it. You're not burning the flag, desecrating it, that's respect to the flag. They're not flipping the flag off. So I commend Casey for taking this name and hopefully the NFL will come to. A better way to handle this situation him they, they tried to appeal to different facts sections and they just take off everybody. 'cause nobody's happy with this because we've heard commended, geez, that's almost worse was taking the knee by staying in the locker room. The guys like, well, hold on. I gotta tell me what I what I can do. And we saw Mr. Bidwell says, all we do as the players for twenty days, but why you determined to twenty days when you don't want me to protest. That's the whole point. We don't want you determine telling us win, we can and can't because we can't tell you, you can't can't. I commend Casey for the stance in the approach that he's taking. Likewise, but I'm going to step back for a second, and I'm going to guess that a whole lot of NFL fans don't really know who drill Casey is even though he is made three straight pro bowls at defensive tackle, albeit for the Tennessee type just blend Nashville Tennessee. So maybe that's why, but drill Casey, one of the better ones he's about by the way, he's got some legacy to him. He went to Long Beach poly, which is a football power out here in southern California, and then you went to USC. And yet I just think this is today will be the biggest publicity splash that drill Casey is ever made, and it's going to be off the field. Right? Because I don't think a lot of people really don't know, but now they're going to say, wait a second that guy. Oh, yeah, that guy. Okay. There was some courage behind his statements. And I'd mired them because he pulled not one punt and yet checked on this just to make sure one year ago in July, he signed a big new deal for years, sixty million dollars with forty million..
