"And so she was going down the stairs. And i thought this was one of those times and she kind of tripped over herself and luckily was only like four days four steps but she looks like oh like all shaken hon. Time where she was going up the stairs and she kind of fell. And i think it's because the light has been out in on the stairwell so like i just didn't turn it on and well because it's out and So yeah there wasn't the light there is there usually is it. But i mean there was like enough like the neighbors lights on my you'd think to donau cataracts. Yes she definitely had. She's got the cloudy. I the whole thing. So that. And then i'm gonna have to put her on some medication for some incontinence kind of stuff. Because she's like a little little leaky. But as soon as i put her on a medication she gets a little supplement that fixes that fix that right up. She's just an old lady that fixes. Oh yeah do they have for humans. Thanks so not that i need. "It is creativity in youthfulness trying to find its way into this conflicted young adult who is on this bridge to adulthood trying to remember. Hey you can work. You need to make sure that you work and take take your life seriously but also that you need to remember to have faith in yourself and always remember that you need to be able to have a little fun and be creative because that is how you're going to get through life and i think it's a very beautiful message Especially when when put that way and I think that there's something else that i need to talk about. Two which is the title When you look at the title what can we see well while it is in fact. So it's mr magouras wonder emporium while it is in fact. Run by mr magoo. I would say that's not the important part here. That's not the important part of the title. What is an emporium. Has anyone ever thought about this simply put. It's a retail store that provides something i. It's a store. It's something that you that you go in you get something from it. Well what is important What's important about this is that never. Has this building ever claimed to be a toy store. Isn't that interesting. How we see this and it appears to be a toy store but the title of the movie doesn't say toy store it says wonder emporium the character. Mr mcguigan doesn't ever refer to it as a toy store. The only person that refers to it as a toy store is henry and in mali. But that's the adult hood. Part of mali. Talking when she's talking to eric and she's like oh i can't keep working at the The toy story that that's the only time they refer to as a toy store and emporium. I think it's important to note that emporium is not a toy store. Those aren't synonymous a an emporium. An emporium what that pokemon was gone. am am pouria. Must forget what the word wise emporium is essentially. Just that it's a store that's all it is. It's a place it's a retail place where you can go and buy stuff. So is it a toy store. No now mr mma him even explicitly states it is in fact not a toy store but instead he says oh. It's so much more that's what he says. These these are quotes now. I'll say this to it. Provides wonder to its customers. That is what it's selling a quote unquote on selling. It provides wonder to its customers which speaks volumes based on everything else that we've discussed so far so the point of mr magori wonder emporium is to help. Kids stay in tune with their own youthfulness into let's say even strengthen their youthfulness and create some kind of foundation there it is to reinforce young adults to go into their adulthood with this level of creativity and youthfulness and it is. It's the responsibility of this emporium to bring people like henry that do all work and no play and remind them that even though they aren't adult that they they should remember to stay the at heart. Our kids that they are. They are a kid at heart. I say a bold theory that i have is that mr memoriam is the wonder emporium so this is a slightly different conversation here. There's not a lot of backup. This idea That mr mugabe is actually the emporium itself But it certainly does mir his same sense of humor in its playfulness and when mr Mr goria seems to be sick in a little bit..

Zimbabwe gives public sector protest the go-ahead
"Zimbabwe's protests have been spawned by years of deep-rooted economic mismanagement by the government. President Emmerson Mnangagwa took office in two thousand seventeen big promises to revive the economy. You after longtime authoritarian leader Robert Mugabe was ousted in a military coup country has to be it's different and our relations will be normalized. Peppy visit change in great shape working. It is good young yet now. Zimbabwe has the world's second highest inflation rate. Prices marked on a supermarket shelf can change by the time. The customer reaches the checkout. The crisis has brought back painful memories of two thousand eight when inflation reached five hundred billion percent wiping out people savings causing Mr Mugabe's government to abandon its currency empty shelves in the shops speak of a nation on its knees in today Zimbabwe. The situation is becoming more desperate by the day. It's already sparked plenty of rest. In January protests erupted after fuel prices more than doubled overnight. The security forces responded violently killing seventeen people. The question is whether Mr Mnangagwa's government comment will tolerate dissent at today's March. People are expecting thousands of people to go out onto the streets in protest in Zimbabwe. Jonathan Rosenthal is our Africa editor. There are some real concern for today's protests mater and violent in particular their worries about the security forces clamping down quite hard. The reason that people are concerned is that Zimbabwe's Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa has set loose. The police in the army on protesters in the past in January there were attempts to protest and people beaten again in August those very small protests that took place in it'd been banned security forces said they would arrest people who came out and small numbers did turn out and of course it's little more than a year since the election in August of last year. That also turned violent. twit the police and army shot demonstrators. Who is saying the election had been rigged and so the protests this time around? Who are the protesters in and what what did they want? The protests at the moment of very much driven by the economy. It's much more about people. Struggling to get by rather than an overtly political protests and the reason is that symbolic he's been in slow motion economic crisis for the past few years way. Its currency has been falling. It's used to have a currency was pegged to the dollar. The government is run. Run out of dollars. So it's been essentially printing it so in many it's been producing things called on notes. It's been producing a kind of an electronic money. All of these have been steadily losing value and of course Oh civil servants. Who are the biggest group of unionized employees? I have seen their pay rapidly falling buzz devaluation of the currency rampant inflation. And so does the government even have have the means to address those concerns in the short term. There is very little the government can do is broke. It is facing recession. The finance ministers expecting growth contract by about six to the seven percent this year. There is very little riddle renewed. The government's got to meet these demands to think of the notion of inflation and Zimbabwe's to think back a decade ago. When and you know you could get yourself a five hundred trillion Zimbabwean dollar note? Is there a link between what we're seeing now in the country and what we saw. Then that's absolutely right. Zimbabweans have memory memory of the rampant hyperinflation that the head in two thousand nine hundred absolutely devastated. The economy and many people are now looking at the inflation rate which the government has stopped reporting. So it's now take communists to try to guess and their estimates of around three hundred eighty four hundred percent and of course that not only brings back memories for some bog wins who are desperately trying into shot with what many they still have. We're also seeing disturbing. Echoes in the way in which the government's is responding to this so if one goes back to two thousand eight the finance minister at the time came out and said the normal laws of economics did not apply to Zimbabwe. And therefore he could printers matrimony as you want to do and that just fueled the hyperinflation and we're seeing again at the central bank in Zimbabwe as saying what it sees is a shortage of currency and it is therefore introducing yet another new currency which was going back to printing the old Zimbabwe Dolla. Paula and simply printing is not the way in which deals with inflation so the economic situation that Zimbabwe faces now is entirely down then to government economic mismanagement management or it is absolutely the result of economic mismanagement that goes back decades if one looks at the now late former President Robert Mugabe who ruled from independence in one thousand nine hundred ensler asked in two thousand seventeen Mugabe. Firstly overspent running huge deficits. He then decided the bigger idea to grab the most productive assets in the country. Entry the farms the commercial farms had mattis cronies who then mismanaged them. And we've seen ongoing economic mismanagement where the government is simply be unable to run a balanced budget control it spending and Risher investors that if they start putting many into irrigation on farms or mines or whatever it is that they want to invest in that these assets won't just get grabbed the of course the government is not taking the blame for it saying there is a drought and indeed. The rains have been bad. It is also being particularly genius when it blamed sanctions Western countries the US EU have imposed very targeted sanctions that are really targeted against the person and our punishment for being involved in gross human rights violations whereas the broad-ranging ranges and Baldwin Economic Commerce is a lot of continue unabated so if we assume that the normal laws of economics do apply in Zimbabwe. What should the government be doing instead? How could it pull itself out of this mess? The first thing to do is to simply get out of this crazy. Business of producing new currencies many people in Zimbabwe is somebody saying let's go back to the US taller. The government cannot be trusted to prince own money that would lead to quite as severe short term economic shock probably but it is something that a previous opposition government of national unity dead and stabilize the economy after the previous battle. Hyperinflation the second thing it needs to do is to come clean on. Its major export earnings Zimbabwe. Aubrey produces a lot of minerals in particular diamonds but there is very little transparency as to whether revenue from those governments control done minds ago. Many people suspect that it is disappearing disappearing into the pockets of senior people in the government in the military. Do you think that will that tells kind of wider tail. I mean what's your view on the outlook for the country. Now that it's shot of Mr Mr Mugabe and now under Mr Mnangagwa's aside from the current economic turmoil do you think the prospects are good but we has a real opportunity and that opportunity was offered search lost last year in July when it had selections and the West essentially lines up said. We're racist lending we're ready to support debt-relief and to get this economy back on its feet but in return. What we expect is a clean election and no human rights violations? And that didn't happen. There is an opportunity now. Given how deep the crisis says for governments to put his hands up essentially say okay. We're willing to take the steel into start. Enacting some real reforms in the process. Today we're really going to be seeing people coming asking for change a chance at hope and we will see today whether the government listens to that or whether it reverts to its old tactic of simply sending in the security perceive a schism piecing processes with the streets.

It's complicated: Zimbabweans see Mugabe's legacy as mixed
"Former president of zimbabwe robert mugabe has died at the age of ninety five. He was is a schoolteacher turned guerrilla fighter who helped to topple white rule in zimbabwe. Only to then lead the country to the brink of economic ruin his successor president emerson managua said in a message on twitter quote commander mugabe was an icon of liberation a pan africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment norman of his people his contribution to the history of our nation will never be forgotten our deputy africa bureau chief gabrielle steinhaeuser is in capetown so gabrielle. Tell me a bit more about how mr mugabe ended up in power so mugabe came to power in nineteen eighty initially as prime minister of zimbabwe <hes> having sort of liberated his country from the british and and and also white minority government that followed and in his his first few years he really kept warm relations with his predecessor they would regularly have t- you know and he i think he was was honored by the british and he will succeed as this and of enlightenment need a he was a schoolteacher. You know he was educated. He we build a very strong education system zimbabwe but you right that the way he'll be remembered is a bit more complicated. I think it's a bit of a complicated legacy. I would say for most imbaba winds. They will remember him for the brutality and economic hardship of his final decades in power where the economy really spiraled and off any kind of opposition was brutally repressed but then you know you have other leaders in africa who really especially here in south africa really remember him for the support he gave them in their old liberation struggle so we had a very sort of hard shelled message from the ruling party the african national congress in south africa so the lauding him for his contribution to bringing the an and to apartheid and how is zimbabwe doing now. It's actually a really kind of sad adds to that because after he finally resigned resigned than i was in harare you know tens of thousands of people just storming the streets in celebration and there was so much optimism not only among zimbabweans but also among western governments who were ready and companies who are keen to engage in an invest. I think what we've seen over the last nearly two in years. There's a lot of that optimism plate fade away so it's hard to kind of look at mugabe's staff this this point to to a story of decline because it seems like the decline unfortunately continues

I think that was on the USA today was about number seven, Eric. There was a lot of interesting as I don't know. There was any ones that other than the NFL one, which I think was in my mind, the best one just the sheer volume of great players. They brought together the funniness of the of the setup event starts with the marshawn Lynch trying to get a taste of that fabricate that was located right next to the table. Yeah. Other than that one. The rest of them were kind of ok nothing earth shattering. You can weigh in as well four one four seven nine nine one six hundred what ads you think stood out yesterday? You know, the one that I my favorite and it got a little bit attraction online as well. It was the combination of the Bud Light in game of thrones combo platter. Did not see that come any kind of came out of nowhere. All of a sudden it's a game of thrones add to promote their upcoming season. That one was unique creative in caught me by surprise. Yeah. Let me you got a couple of things going on there. One the ad campaign has been very successful for Bud Light. But to game of thrones has a huge audience worldwide into the mix those two story about that before the show that the two Agassi's actually had to settle their disagreements and work together. They typically at war with each other. So they kind have worked together to kind of figure it out. But I think people were just surprised if that connection, right? I made sense given you're talking about medieval times, then you've got this dragon flying around. But that was one that stood out the woman Harrison Ford, I think it was clever. The thing about Harrison Ford. I want Harrison Ford in movies where he's saving the country or going after ancient relics killing stormtroopers, and he's like seventy plus years. Oh, yeah. And you can kind of see that. I don't know if he's I think he could have done that same commercial with somebody else. I don't know if he was the right guy for now part of being popular commercial wise on Super Bowl days to surprise people. Maybe that was the surprise of it. But as clever and ordering things through the Amazon, Alexa, which I have one up and I still don't trust. I know you do you gotta start doing that. Because I swear to God. I say something in my house, and then I'm bombarded with emails, and so somebody's making some things making that connection funding. We're worried about Amazon listening to us. But we don't have any problem like telling Facebook in the world what we're doing over eating where we're going all time the other one that I really got a kick out of. But it went nowhere on social media. At least that I could tell was the devour ad. It was the one where it's a couple and and trying to be as sensitive as possible there are essentially making the case that the husband is addicted to frozen meals, which is what the compare that to like a porn addiction. And I think we've got some of that. We my boyfriend is addicted to I..

So a little bit of flavor or we're going to talk about on the show today. I was struck by the ads not that they were brilliant. There were some interesting moments. The Andy Warhol roadshow for Burger King was interesting. I haven't had a chance came last on the ad meter if you looked at social media anyone younger than fifty were like what is actually happening. I laughed at it. I thought it was random and funny. There's only two points, I laughed out loud. And in in the all the ads was that one and the devour add the company that makes the frozen dinners. This sort of a takeoff on the porn addiction. A woman and her husband, and we're gonna play some of that a little bit later in the show. That's really it's now I said at the beginning, the NFL one hundred ad was brilliant. "You can always count on me to class up the joint, Eric. Mine is called. The death of dick long. It would be a lot less classy. If it were slightly changed world order. Yeah. Anybody the deck? The death of. The death of dick long is a film coming up by Daniel shiner. I have to say I was discouraged. When I first started looking at movies with confirmed release dates in two thousand nineteen because to Charles point earlier. There seemed to be even more sequels than ever Terminator fucking six Rambo five the vendors for I mean, come on. And I mean, I I will say among the blockbusters I'm most excited about captain marvel which is not a sequel, but part of the marvel cinematic universe, but I looked to the Sundance program to get Indian spray Shen. These aren't guaranteed to come out next year, but their spot in the festival lineup is a pretty good indicator. So one of the Sundance movies, I'm most excited about again is the death of dick long by Daniel shiner and shot by the prolific and beloved by this podcast. Ashley, Connor she. As we've said before as I are most repeated guests on the show shiner is half of the writing directing duo Daniels with Daniel Kwan who've also been guests on the podcast, and they went back. Directors at the twenty sixteen Sundance film festival for their feature films Swiss army man, otherwise known as the farting corpse movie. I never actually saw it. But I've seen a bunch of their shorts. And I just feel like they're two of the freshest and most creative voices with their hearts in the right place. So even though this is just a one of the Daniels. And frankly, the premise sounds a little dumb. It's about two guys trying to cover up the death of their bandmate. I'm still excited to see it because it's sure to be original and entertaining and just again fresh voices. Holies? Liz, Liz, Liz, Liz, okay. This is going to be really short because not much has really been revealed as the plot or anything. But a new Safti brothers movie is coming in two thousand nineteen produced by a twenty four internationally distributed by Netflix and starring none other than Adam Sandler. It's called uncut gems, and it's hard to think we'll get anything less than vintage P T A, Adam Sandler here as the Saffi's are incredibly gifted at blending comedy with drama only know about the film is that it is a quote, unquote, American crime drama, and that if the softies other films have in knows what and good time are any indication it takes place in New York City. It also stars Keith Stanfield, Judd Hirsch, Indiana, Menzel palm clementine, and Eric you'll appreciate this one NBA legend, Kevin Garnett. Oh, I knew it was going to think I was thinking about choosing this one too. So for mine, I chose the beach bum by harmony Kerlin, and there were a few that I kind of played with putting on this list. I thought of like Jordan peels us. Richard linklater's. Where'd you go Bernadette Kate Blanchett one? But I went with the beach bum because I'm a fan at least from far and sometimes with severe reservation of filmmaker. Harmony Kerlin if you haven't seen trash lumper's that's a movie that should be seen if not endured at least once since the days of his screenplay for Larry Clark's kids made headlines back in the nineteen nineties modern day audiences probably know him best as the filmmaker behind spring, breakers, and his latest Florida's set film the beach. Bum looks appropriately insane. Starring Matthew, mcconaughey. Hey in a role. He was either born or sentenced to play the red band trailer. That's come out looks appropriately drugged out and very soaked in neon which makes sense because the film is being distributed by neon. So I thought you know, I just don't know how they work these things it also packs in a solid number of quotable lines in just a few seconds. Speaking of the trailer, and courtesy of Mr Mugabe and even soup dog shows, Martha Stewart's French snoop Dogg is in French French soup. soup dog shows up in harmony Korean movie. Yeah..
