In this final half hour now that we have heard all about Orson Welles the war of the worlds. Talk a little bit about what the show's impact was on the nation, the things happen and some of the aftermath. One of the most interesting things about the aftermath. Is what happened much later in nineteen forty. In October of nineteen forty. British author H. G. Wells the author of the war of the worlds took a train to Texas to speak to a meeting of the United States brewers association. Now. By this point, wells had published almost all of his fiction, the time machine, the island of Dr Moreau, the invisible man, and of course, the poor mentioned war, the world's. Now for some reason. Wells and wells were together at the same time in San Antonio Texas for their only broadcasts meeting that took place on San Antonio Radio Station K. Tsa October Twenty eight nineteen forty. Let's listen to that conversation. Evening Ladies and gentlemen. This is Charles Shaw Speaking Haiti has honored this evening by the presence in our studios of two great men. The honorable H. G. Wells on famous British story author and Student Immoral Affairs and Mr Orson Welles the genius of stage screen and radio. This is the first time that Mr H. G. Wells and Mr Orson Welles have appeared together. In fact, they met for the first time only yesterday here in San Antonio. But this is not the first time that their names have been linked to years ago Mr John Wells at that Mr H. G. Wells War of the worlds for radio purposes and you know the rest revising the story somewhat Mr Wells depicted an. Invasion of the United States by men from Mars although he explained numerous times during the program that it was petitions, the country at large was frightened almost out of its width men call radio stations offering to enlisted against the Martians. Others were panic stricken the realism of the production frightening. It was wasn't tribute to Mr Orson welles genius and the name of Wells H. G. W. E.. L.. L. S. and Orson W. E. L. L. E. S. became linked Mr H. G. Wells, and the opinion of many is the world's most famous man of letters. He has come to San Antonio to address the United States brewers association and Mr Orson Welles is here at townhall for an address Wednesday. In this meeting of great minds, I feel rather inconspicuous unless I have to say a better listeners will like it. But I but I interest you gentlemen in a discussion and Mr Orson welles broadcast of Mr H. G.. Wells book the War of the Worlds. Turning leading over that I am. Standing, it over to us well I've had. And it's supposed to show the corrupt condition and decadence. State of affairs in democracies work went over as well as it did I think it's very nice Mr Wealth to say that Not only I didn't mean that the American people didn't mean it. was out impression in. We had articles about it and p percent of your neighborhood of Eileen American everybody pretends to see goes. Well the was some excitement caused. G. wells writings, return fantastic, and a few years ago with all night I have been conceived such. The shape of things to come which told of a long internecine war was such a fantasy for dourson wells. Do you think that it's so fantastic and do the events clearly not so fantastic and the the one question Mr Mr Well. Has. Spoken I don't even the shape of things to come but. Hinted are directly prophecy such a state of affairs. Following a Wasting war and a return to feudalism from which. The world would find itself again. And today Mr Offers. Luxury? Said quite the most interesting thing. I've read longtime. He said that he commenced just recently to ask him. So there was any reason why mankind's should so. Any late the phoenix censored so GET ITSELF OUT OF A. Mess, he proposed a couple of Of. Solutions, but he did admit that there. That, there was a box of all excuse for a gloomy point of view. And it would be good to be realistic about it or not to dismiss the gloomy point of view anymore perhaps At the time had come to look ahead since the future. Mr Wells' future we've always adored never really understood is suddenly upon us. We are living right now in. Fact famous H. G. Wells Future, which we all knew about. "They were with the original over by the governor's organ before we continue however I have a gun in rainy who's holding the line don't know rainy needs understanding they were listening watching these understand the different stations make a show at different times so many people have no clue what we're talking about so I was able to take other calls on this one gonna take Rainey's called back because we never have time to really mix it up but at the end of the hour but after we present what it was we were talking about they will move on to other stuff it's your mind that company is going to Israel are they reassess it again whatever the recessing it right and it looks like the public to get rid of her as the as the mascot right right logo or the face I like mascot to be honest with you she's the face of the brand has been front of thirty years uncle Ben's rice is going to get rid of uncle Ben because those companies feel that somehow their of their racial stereotypes that in this day and age have to be reassessed same thing with the way the lakes butter getting rid of the the American Indian on the packaging there I say if I've got a company and I choose to use a face for the company I do think that face is going to help me sell more my product I think it's a good thing much like sports mascots if I call myself the Redskins I think that American Indians are Verrall are strong or victorious and they're going to help me win look out powerful we are we are the Indians we are the Redskins we are the fill in the blank the Braves I think those are good things I don't think they're denigrate all in factor holding that person back into the up on high if you want to sell more pancake syrup you gonna put HM I'm on there because it's great syrup and a look a beautiful black woman was the person who is representing the brand that's not a negative it's a positive saving local bands that represented that not to make my case against radio here he has to say Randy presented himself as a black man he says he's offended and he actually says we are offended and many said he's offended that a radio talk shows I don't know he said it was white or not probably but that that white radio talk show host is gonna tell black people what they should or shouldn't be offended by ready to go out why the conversation correctly correct me if I got anything wrong except I never caught your regular okay I said you may have you probably did if you did not accept that god well that but you know if you're rich you have the good analogy C. because the Indians don't appreciate being a mess out of a mascot either that's not true Robert or do you have your right would you I don't interrupt you but we say something wrong I'm not smart enough to remember it so I have to jump in here they named the Redskins after the American Indian coach back in nineteen thirty something they actually did it on purpose because it was an honor it was it was actually it was at the back of a compliment most American Indians have no problem with the term there are a few other tribes that have a problem with it that you believe that they represent all Indians they don't go ahead well I think you have to put a blow back on the right it can still be changed from the Redskins to made me change it to the rednecks I don't know why I listen when jet when Jeff which is the same what was the guy's name the the comedian said you might be a redneck just somebody Jeff Foxworthy yeah when he wrote the book might be a redneck I'm white I wasn't offended J. been offended regular maybe what have been the there might be some people don't want to create a B. is still free with that some people but it was funny it was a joke and he sold a lot of books that we did a lot of comedy tors I I as a white guy never first of all thought of myself as a redneck and secondly never thought that it was a problem to be honest with you a better comparison for me the chef boy RD I'm an Italian guy right ready to ship we are doing it I don't know well I'll tell you I'll tell you my tongue in my last impact Miro it's a shorter pack the ruler so I'm a tech I tell young guy in their shop we are D. who's a stereo typical Hey who's going to beat the ball he's he's just a guy who's like in the Italian stereotype I will buy Shipley RD all each up where do you fight that kind of stuff I don't but I I would eat that it is not offended by it is a retired American why should I be they're actually using an Italian guy to promote something they think is delicious and I want to sell what's wrong with that tell me what I have wrong that if I get a chance you see the defective ocal bear in your mind I've never met anybody make many pantomimes so they named us their name for a long long time but I would appreciate it women will still be an awful somebody but when you get old enough when they call that they call you Mr the call your body call your book they call you but built everything and when you get so old that they get a shame to call your uncle when would they call you Mr bear okay uncle told you understand local as an adult I'm an uncle I got many nieces and nephews but my name is Mr Mr well you know you're right Israel your last name is but you you could be uncle Randy if in fact you have nieces and nephews now would you be able there you don't know me right well who called me Mr to you find out if I got a call asking you if your nieces and nephews would call you uncle stop putting this on me like I'm the evil white guy you're the oppressed black guy really you're clearly not oppressed here on my show with the same exact audience right now you keep on making it about race when it's not they're holding to black people black faces on high holding them up on high local is not boy uncle is not but whatever else you said wait a minute I do call your call you all the build up I called yesterday I'm not trying to sell you a little bit rice uncle Ben is a demarcation of a guy who makes really good rice who might have been called uncle Ben why are you have a problem with that you're not making a good case Randy I feel like you're you're going to if you want to be offended I'm offended because you can understand what I'm offended and you're much more intelligent than that to all of us well I'm offended that you're offended I'm not offended how bout that well we'll never come to terms on that to come to terms on because you're being thick headed about if for no reason are you brought up how to get there I was gonna call you I'm down right now we call it your call may nobody called nobody called you stupid okay I want to get all of that we have not showed that big time motel because you are is actually took me away from what I planned on doing in this hour I gave you the respect of holding you over the entire break re presenting the entire damn story so you can get your word out he just called me stupid on my show how intelligent was that to do is that they get back when I get back for you he appreciated me doing it big time Motown what if you call me big time motel that's something AJ does are you do are you making fun of aging now yeah you don't you don't you don't people after you debate that's when they got their **** kicked here's the problem right you run a paralegal yes you lost this debate badly your brother Patty McDaniel who was a a barrier breaker how dare you compare her to your offense over some syrup you actually selling her memory she said in that speech I hope this opens doors and hope for generations and remember what we achieved here today Mister you holding her up on the highway as a great American actress who did well instead of instead of doing that rainy day well you did what you drafted through the mud apologize right apologize you are to be gotta go here all those people but we got door I would never probably eighty years ago first of all and she broke through.

"Of Costco? Memberships still makes sense if you don't buy food there, Mr. Mr.. Well, yes, I do love, Costco. But we tend to buy our produce at Aldy museum by much smaller quantities. And it's not as likely you'd go bad one of the issues with Costco. A very busy warehouse location. The produce turns over extremely quickly and warehouse that has lower volume traffic produce may in fact, sit too long, but the problem for us. Is you know with two kids grown and gone one kid at home just the three of us in the house. The quantities of a lot of the fresh produce. At Costco, is too big for us. And that's why we tend to buy our produce at all where the quality of the produce has improved dramatically and my wife likes buying organic stuff. And so then that what you call it crista organic stuff. That's what the world calls. It man stuff. Everybody the organic stuff. There are a lot of times. But the quality is really good. And it's really fresh heard about the sprint kickstart through your newsletter. Did you research it at all I spoke with ten or eleven folks there over countless hours only to find that there were limitations that were not listed anywhere on their web page ensure a prepaid plan which I had with boost using Sprint's network could not be transferred over to their kickstart program. How misleading and in my opinion, a rip-off shame on them and a bit on you for recommending it. Thanks, Ron in Raleigh, North Carolina. Ron I'm sorry that sprint manage to annoy yet another person. The the twenty five dollar promotion for unlimited talk, text and data was to capture customers from principally AT and T and Verizon and boost is their wholly owned discount brand they should have done full disclosure that boost was not boost customers were not eligible. And as you said that was not published anywhere. Yikes. What just happened or didn't happen? A caller said he received three free nights at Orlando in Orlando from a hotel timeshare company. This would have been a great opportunity for Clark to talk about attending timeshare pitches. When someone's on vacation Clark, never worn the collar about the heavy pressure that they will receive and they tell a story about their own experience. That was my failure. And I'll tell you where that came from because of the sometimes I don't give as good or complete an answer is I would like to give because we're under for the radio program under a tight clock for syndication. I'm always warmly welcomed their Clark. Let your listeners know the rest of the story and keep up the good work. Thanks, professor, Kent. Professor can't thank you. You just did. And I've actually used shared branch network twice in my time as a credit union member, which my time is a credit union member goes back to nineteen was during the Vietnam war nineteen seventy four I think I joined my first credit union, which was then called Pentagon Federal Credit Union. I appreciate so much all your posts. And what you do to help your fellow listeners..
