And he said there's a price target. There you go anyway boy at Stanley now has the lowest projection among fourteen analysts in the Bloomberg survey similar story at Fortinet this security software company. They're down four and a half percent. Goldman Sachs cuts rating to south from by and slashed its share price target by thirty eight percent. The fifty nine dollars. Also, the lowest among analysts that we survey. Couple of out RPM international is one of them that's down six and a half percent. The chemical companies earnings trailed the average estimate for a third straight quarter. That's of course, the estimate from a Bloomberg survey sales also came up short of projections. Lamb Weston on the other hand up four percent, he maker of frozen French fries and other potato products posted fiscal second quarter results that beat estimates. David wilson. Thank you so much is a thrill, particularly after the joy we've seen in Washington over the last number days to speak to Margaret Brennan. She is face the nation. Of course, of course. CBS stations and CBS Sunday morning. You could hear them Bloomberg radio. We do that at two pm Sunday afternoon. Margaret Brennan, good morning. I guess this is not wolf Blitzer in the situation room. There was a situation where I'm a couple of days ago is today is today's important second meeting of negotiations is it in the situation room. Well, there is some question about that. Room with any kind of sensitive actual Brady what's happening at supporter. And I think the bigger question is our negotiation too. Big a words, you exactly right where I wanted to go. What do you think? Exactly. And and from what I'm hearing. It is that that there's very little hope for an immediate breakthrough to this current impacts that we are at there is the sort of calculation being made that more pain needs to be felt politically or perhaps financially before there is room for actual negotiations. But people like Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina are trying to float some kind of deal that could be possible something that would entice Democrats in the Senate to get on board with a Bill that could include the five billion in funding. He's the jesting things like protection for so called dreamers and temporary protected status for those who fled here under extrordinary circumstances. So it's not clear yet, though, this is Jeff jumping being floated as an idea or whether there's actual traction that could force negotiation. Margaret, what kind of pressure is Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell under? He's under some interesting pressure, right? Because of this question over what part of his own party. Does he want to follow here? Remember, he did his job as did Republicans in the house before the shutdown in terms of putting together a funding Bill that they bought the president would find on the sat down wouldn't have happened. If Mitch McConnell had his way, but he was under pressure from the president to put the brakes on it and say that nothing will go to vote on the floor of the Senate now unless it includes border wall funding, and everyone who has an our next to their name has to answer. This question of whether they go through with some kind of compromise. Whether that is you to politically toxic to buck the president or whether it politically toxic for them to oppose the president or or to to vote alongside him and sort of market by market. You're seeing a different there, and maybe a changing population among some Republicans are there any conversations among the political strategist. You speak to about how those eight hundred thousand federal workers may not end up voting for any Republican candidate's because the shutdown is stalled as a result of Senate inaction, and this idea that they're not going to send a Bill to the president that he would not sign. It's not clear who will pay the political cost because I think to a large part of America. They just look at this again, an argument among those who who are elected to do things and don't actually get anywhere because they're finding among themselves. The who pays the political cost is the president rewarded for taking this hard line position or punished for doing something that that forced shutdown Margaret Brennan and the time we got left you have a wonderful set of guests this week, and I'll let you mentioned them, but I really wanna focus off of the admiral's vetus essay in time magazine. The Senator from South Carolina hold dark in the face nation door. Lindsey Graham is pretty important in the Republican debate Neri right now, isn't he? He absolutely is not only because he's for a long time enforcing the conversation on immigration unsuccessfully on, but he's hopeful that in missing virement with his sometimes so but often friend President Trump that he can maybe have this political standoff result in some kind of actual deal. What about yeah? Exactly exactly where you're leading us. This is a huge conversation as well this Sunday because I national security adviser ambassador Bolton is going to be in the region trying to reassure Embiid east allies that the president pledged to pull out troops from Syria. Doesn't mean America is abandoning the region to Iran, and that's something we're going to talk to Lindsey Graham about because he's been from the White House few days ago after saying with a massive by the now. Now, he's heard things that make them feel better. What does that mean? Well, you could negotiate with Lindsey Graham has I'm sure Margaret Brennan. Thank you so much face the nation on CBS on Sunday, Pimm while I was thinking that one of the big things is going to be who's going to be the next secretary of defense. And I don't know whether you saw the the reports that Jim Webb who is a former secretary of defense and former Senator may be the maybe the one of the name sets being considered for replacement of Jim Mattis because of course, we just have an acting secretary of defense right now. I'm glad you mentioned Jim Webb as well. Margaret Brennan face the nation. Of course on Bloomberg radio. You can listen Sunday two pm in New York, Washington DC and Bloomberg one six one Boston newburyport face the nation. That's Sunday at two, I'm bloombergradio. Can I just say? Nineteen. Well, sometimes it's better than it is to look at whatever it is. I was completely wrong on that. Thanks to L from jersey for saying. Let's do face the nation Sunday. This is Bloomberg. Now, let's go to Mr Michael Barr and find out what's going on in the world, Mr. Barr. Thank you, Pimm. Thank it's on president. Trump will meet later this morning with congressional lawmakers and the White House for another crack at negotiations to end the now fourteen day partial government shutdown. Both sides, though have shown no signs of budging house. Democrats voted yesterday to reopen the government, but the measure did not have funding for a US Mexico border wall. President Trump insists on funding for the wall. House speaker Nancy Pelosi said she had ruled had not ruled out impeachment proceedings against President Trump. "Dismissed or quit depending on whose version of events. You follow? Officially Tom dependent gone will continue to do what it always does. It will stand on a wall on defend this country to the Admiral Stavridis, some what if you could just sort of use your navel and strategic background in the context of China and a book that you have recommended called on desperate ground, and what we should take away from reading this book by Hampton sides about China and understanding them, not only from a military and trade perspective. But from a political and cultural perspective. Yeah, terrific question. The book is about the Korean war, and it's a cautionary tale for modern times. Right. In other words, we know what? War on the Korean peninsula, would look like hundreds of thousands if not millions dead that was before there were nuclear weapons involved. So a we ought to take the cautionary message and be we ought to. Remember when China's back was pushed to the wall by MacArthur with US troops surging north. They responded they responded hard. They pushed us all the way back down that peninsula. We should not underestimate China's will in a military conflict. So I wouldn't say we're quite on desperate ground yet between the US and China, but skirmishes lead to wars we need to be very cautious and careful in how we deal with China. So what is the scuttle butt among your colleagues and other officials in an outside of the military about the future of the United States role in the Pacific. We need to remain engaged to walk away from the Pacific takes away from the economic engine of the earth on the other hand, we have got to find a modus Vivendi with China, and I'm particularly concerned this week with the exchange of messages, if you will between president gee of China and president sigh of Taiwan in their New Year's messages. What was your biggest surprise for students within the international relations after five years? It's Fletcher it is so in now to do international relations. What's your message to students undergraduates graduates, and their parents who want to pursue are? Number one by far is that international relations gives you an opportunity to serve to serve your country eventually in the military, but in the diplomatic core at the Central Intelligence Agency. In international business is a form of service engaging globally provide service to the world, and I'll close by saying our students focused in particular, Tom on his shoes of equality, globally and the environment, and it's very idealistic space for students to be in. "That will give us more clarity. And we'll certainly I think she more sustained movement in bond yields once we get that clarity. And so again, I don't think even though investors seem to be very nervous and cautious about midterm elections. I don't see a situation unless you get a democratic house and a Democratic Senate. Where we would have any kind of sustained selloff. Yeah. We could have a short-term negative reaction is stems take the house, but the stock market is a voting machine in the very short term, and then it becomes a wing machine. And so once investors become more thoughtful and think about the country, the upside for trade as well as upside potential from infrastructure spending, keep in mind that infrastructure spending is a bipartisan issue, and this is one where it seems very possible that President Trump could reach across the aisle and come up with an agreement, and as we know infrastructure spending when done right can have a very high multiplier effect dollar strength set to continue. Yes. Certainly what we've seen over the last few years is the strongest correlation with dollar strength has been expectations about the fed and raising rates, and so especially given last week's jobs report full steam ahead, and I would expect the dollar to continue to be strong going into the end of the year.
