How to repay the person who did something good for you in the past
"It was the shape of his nose. That i i recognized. I hadn't seen jimmy king for forty years. But that knows created through the coming together of jimmy's face and the head of some sunderland defender in the last minutes of time of a league cup semifinal match was unmistakable. I noticed him while talking to some elderly. Ladies friends of my mother-in-law's in an old people's home my mother in law had died a couple of weeks earlier. And i was visiting the home for the last time to collect her things and pay some bills because my face is familiar to many people. I'm a news reader on the television. The head of the home. Mrs marston. Oft if i would have tea with her friends she said they would like it. So why agreed. The home had to pleasant rooms connected by door with the residents could be together. We were sitting table in the larger room. While in the other one a television was showing football and a few elderly men. Were watching sleepily. I could hear the commentators voices in the background. Rising and falling as the ball traveled here. And there would you turn the beauty tally. Up voice suddenly ruled account era thickness saying. Where's the remote. My t companions clucked like startled chickens. This interruption and through the door. I could see the elderly. Men were resentful of the newcomer disturbing that peaceful afternoon. He was wearing a rather dirty old dressing gown and walking slowly and painfully using a stick. One side of his body seemed very stiff. And i guess he must have had a stroke except for his nose he was no longer the athletes. I had worshipped as a child. Who's not gentlemen. I asked one of the ladies wanting to be sure i was right. I haven't seen him here before. Oh that's mr king. He's new we like him at all. He shouts rude. Things at the television in the football is on. We've had to complain to mrs mollison about it. Oh jimmy i thought. Why does this have to happen. I was the only go in family. From the time i was very little. My brothers always took me to watch on local football team. Trent united. When i started we were in the third division but when this story takes place i was sixteen and we'd just being promoted to the first division as it was then called went to game home or away and most of the family conversation was about the team. I was enthusiastic as my brothers between nineteen sixty seven when jimmy king joined the club i became obsessed. He came with a reputation. So-called experts would shake their heads wisely and say things like nice footwork. But that's not what it's all about is it. He doesn't play for the team. does he ended with scandals. The jogye he crashed after night out in london the models he dated. The party's the police were called to but i didn't care what he did on the pitch was art and somehow he turned our team which is made up of solid but fairly ordinary professionals into something special. The nineteen sixty seven sixty eight season was magical with jimmy there. Everybody feared us. Even the big clubs. Leeds liverpool will the manchester's. My family was ecstatic. An after the games we'd get the players to sign programs all photographs but there was one player. I could never speak to even though. I always carried his picture with me. And that was jimmy. You see. I was used to young men because of my brothers. I couldn't talk even go near jimmy. If he looked at my direction i would tremble and turn away

That's why the man whose straightened out the Enron scandal in California that would eyes the person I'm recommending to straighten out the Texas situation. Uh, I want it does, uh, The question of sovereign immunity in her into this picture, there's been a multiple lawsuits now brought about by the Texas power outages. Are you familiar with that with that? I'm familiar with the concept. I don't know whether it applies in Texas. I'm not a Roy and I count on so that all right? Very good. It won't lessons Would you see that would be your worthwhile learning? Let's say by the rest of the country where they're things that happened in Texas, that might be cautionary tales for other parts of the U. S. I'm glad you asked me that Jimmy first there is something we've got to take her electric supply very, very seriously. Had the Texas passage of a going on long that it would have been a rover Dass Trevi will order the equipment was being damaged. If the frequency not to be too the head fallen too low. It would have been equipment damaged in the blast. God might have lost two months. Which would have bean a horrendous situation without electricity. Nowadays, the way we live in the 21st century and for most of the 20th century Life is not really sustainable. We would have no food, no water, no sewage, and we couldn't pump any gasoline because that's all of our promise. We won on electricity and able, Who's us to take the supply of electricity very, very seriously, and to see that we do it in a way, which cannot be Impeded on this brings us to things that threatened the supply of electricity. Such a cyber attacks. There are a lot of threats the electric supply. It is the first thing that armies go after now. They used to try to get the radio station Jim. Now they go for the electric supply, because that way you could bring a city or a nation to its knees in a couple of days. Just how vulnerable are we about 30 seconds to go here at nationwide in terms of someone deliberately trying to harm our grid? And nobody at that isn't incalculable. It is very hard to say, I think we all vulnerable but how? I don't know. China's Xi arrives in North Korea for talks with Kim Jong Un
"China's president Xi Jinping is in North Korea. It's the first visit by Chinese leader, there in fourteen years, the capsule Qianjiang has been decked out in Chinese flags and soldiers and workers have been sprucing up the friendship tower, a monument to Chinese chiefs deployed in the north during the Korean war, the North Korean media came John has visited Mr. she in China, four times in the past fifteen months, but relations had cooled over Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions, Mr. kings meetings with President Trump China. Correspondent Robin grant in Shanghai told me more about the significance of the visit this is the leader of the most populous country in the world is getting a full state. Visit he's getting all the pump all the ceremony. And I think it's important because this is she Jinping clearly showing support to Kim Jong UN, here's willing to go there. He's willing to stay for two. Today's and that's important for North Korea's leader because his people will see that their neighbor who historically has been hugely important for them in terms of aid in terms of trade is willing and a very demonstrable way to show support. And we had a piece written in North Korea's state newspaper wrote on single just yesterday penned by Xi Jinping, a picture of him appearing on the front of the newspaper in which he talks about their relationship in what she talks about their ability to come up with a grand plan going forward, North Korea and China to bring about peace in East Asia. And what the strengthening of this alliance? Be so important to both of these powers going forward. Well it today. North Korea as I said, relies on China hugely for trade, about ninety percent of its trade with China, it relies on China for aid as well. But the relationship they have a shared ideological pass, but it's been troubled in recent years, China supported a strengthening of the UN sanctions regime in New York to try and prevent North Korea from pursuing its weapons program that led to increasingly tough restrictions on the trade that North Korea was allowed to do, and Xi Jinping was in supportive that, and that remains the case in terms of what was known as maximum pressure. What we also have here as well is a Chinese leader, just a week before the G, twenty meets in Japan with the ongoing trade war between Washington DC and between Beijing showing no sign of getting any better. We have a Chinese leader reminding Donald Trump. I think that there is a very close relationship between North Korea and. Between China and maybe just maybe China remains the country remains the one political leader, who perhaps, can exert some kind of influence over North Korea when it comes to that country's weapons program, and that was that China correspondent roving Brent in

"Anyway, once I find out the we're going to be in the playoffs and back on Long Island. Sure, he's a great guest talking about Donald Trump. He's a great guest talking about homeland security. He's a great guests talking about taxes and MS thirteen on Long Island. But I know that in his horn of haunts he was one of the first guys to sign the lease on the islanders. I trout the puck at notes Nestle Coliseum and to have the aisles back planning playoff hockey on the island later on tonight has to make this guy so happy, maybe it's the hobbyist he's ever been since being reelected. It's a DEA friend, Alabama congressman Peter King huge tonight. Mr king. Great. The island is back in the home game at the Coliseum where they belonged all along. They never belonged in Barclays, and it was really a tragedy. Taxpayers voted down several years ago. Expand the Coliseum that great go back to nineteen seventy one seventy two I just started working in the Nassau County attorney's office and the assign me to work with the island is preparing the lease. And at that time, you know, the nets were playing in the college calcium got into the Coliseum. Julius Erving was right? Peter. Okay. Rick Barry, hold on a second was the coach. They were hoping ROY is the owner of the he was hoping would ever do a half as well as the nets at the box office. They really Long Island would take hockey because it was a range of town in the city lacrosse sports will big in the suburbs. But the island is from day one. I mean, they guys like Eddie Westfall and Billy Smith. She rush all of them. And within three years they were in the playoffs. Then the course wouldn't the four Stanley Cups in a row from eighty two eighty three eighty four and since then it's been tough. But I tell you what it would trots. They really got the back of nobody aspect of the islanders to make this kind of move this year. And the irony is they lost. Varis to the Toronto Maple. Yeah. We we is over then they finish three point seventy leaps. Not should be great. I mean, I don't follow it as closely as I used to some down here in Washington. But I mean, the goalies defense has been great. I mean, they went from being one of the worst in the NHL to one of the best. And also would you can you can go through all the different offense defense special teams and all that. But you can't put a you can't quantify what it means to have all those crazy fans screaming and yelling tonight. I mean, they're going to blow the roof off so true tonight and Friday, it's going to be terrific, congressman, Peter King. A great statesman a great long islander and he's very excited. You could have one one thing in this serious stuff. So they do belong to the Coliseum. They don't belong in Brooklyn, by the way, the sites for a hockey game or terrible park. Lays the new one that building Peter Peter King the but Belmont excited about that. For the islanders keeps you in the kitchen, and as a good hub location to me, it's a good spot at I hope they find a way to get it done if they get along railroad stop that'd be making better. Make it more accessible more available. You know, you can't put a dollar value of what it means have a major league franchise and your community. I mean, every time a game will be televised say from Nassau County, Long Island, New York. You can't otherwise you're minor league town. I mean people today look at you. If you don't have a major league, not a major league area and is major league, but we can get in that into Belmont. It'd be a great great thing. It's we gotta do what we lost them. Once before if we lose it again. It's no one's fault. But our own right. Well, said congressman Peter King. And now onto some serious subjects not that. That's not serious. It is indeed congressman king. The mole report came out. No evidence, of course, of Trump Russia collusion turns out the Russian collusion. Collusion's Ukrainians and the election meddling was done by the Democrats and some dirty federal cuffs. Are. We going to get a special prosecutor of special counsel for that to look into that stuff will Adam Schiff AK. Adam bullshit will have to resign. He won't resign because he's shameless. And the Democrats are gonna stick by him. And maybe politically it's better to have him there. Because people will see here's a guy who for two years. He had information on collusion. It was there. He had he had it. Then it turns out his none. So to me, it's a blown up in his face. But as far as counsel. I don't know if we need a special counsel. I have a lot of faith in ball and bar said yesterday, he's going to begin investigating how this investigation began in the first place that is long overdue, and I think all of the aspects of this as far as the collusion's far is the Democrats involvement, whether it's Ukraine, whether it was with the St. report, you're still that was all done between the Russians and the Clinton campaign. So I have faith at bars going to do an honest job on this. He's no political guy, but he's a straight arrow. And that's what we need here. Excuse me, congressman Peter King on the Bernie and sid show Shona Peter you spent a lot of years doing a terrific job. Great job with homeland security now, obviously, the the president is very very upset. Too many migrants continue across the border. It's become somebody described it as a category five, it's not bad. But I still feel like Nelson was a bit of a scapegoat. You know, she was pretty much forced to resign. I think today is her last day. I mean, the enemy of the Democrats. We know that already they're not going to help. It doesn't matter. What the Nielsen's which orange or you're in charge? So for me feeling she was a bit of a scapegoat. What about that? Who agree? I mean, I had a not a great relationship that I had no problem with that. I dealt with that she was very competent. And the thing is any president is very frustrated. What's happening? And he's in a way taking that occurs of Nielsen. I think there was never a real bond between the two of them serving loss of confidence early on. But no. It's good as anybody as well as anyone doing their job. And so congress changes the laws until the court rulings? Get straightened out it's going to be very very difficult to do that job and the president's doing the best. He can I think he should realize that if you keep writing nine or ten top positions at homeland security around one concern, I have come to New York. This department was started because of the nine eleven attacks. What I'm concerned about? We're putting always I have always chaos the top ten nine and ten top vacancies at homeland security and only emphasis on the border. You know, we could still have hydrogen ISIS and terrorists trying to blow up New York voices cargo was Angeles support of Houston. I don't want us taking our I off that at all. I mean this. The main reason for this department says stop terrorism, I mean, I don't want to lose sight of that. And I think that with the almost not too much emphasis of the water. We got him. Make sure we keep an emphasis also in counter-terrorism doubt about it. But the border is just one hundred thousand people over that. Absolutely. So why does congress say you congressman Peter King introduced some legislation get these people on record as voting for or against trying to control the border? I mean, just can't continue. It's unsustainable. And it is a crisis. There's no doubt. It's an extra Christ saying we have to make sure we can walk and she'll gum at the same time and go down both pets at the same time. And as far as getting some congress who said it was hard enough getting it through when Republicans control. Now, the Democrats won't even allow any come to vote they they elected, and that's why actually, you know, Tom Swazi. And I mean, I support a real hot border. I had been I Bill back in two thousand and five, you know, the border security wall was voted on that. And so I'm calling to have these strong Barry's along the border, Tom Swazi signing on with me, I'm signing on with him. It's beautiful could return for that. We will do something with the dreamers. I mean, they they were born here. They had no control over being. Yeah. TPS? These people we invited into the country because natural disasters that be to me a reason why because Democrats what they want on dreamers and PS, but they have to give us what we need with the port security and have strong berries along the bottom what border patrol. More technology more drones more, whatever we have to do the Boorda has to be sealed and the Democrats, right? This offer some kind of racism, this is the real you can't have thousand people coming across the border illegally. If they walk across the border with a child, they have to stay in disappear into the shadows. It's always amazing job. Enjoy your islanders back on the island tonight. Good luck. We thought about you right away. Enjoy the game. We'll talk soon buddy of a great. You guys are.

"What you think of the data Mr. king and look at the data, and what we do on some of this stuff as we look at the revisions as go to three months moving average. And you see it in the market futures dipped down yields are gonna come. I'm in and the back and forth into your point earlier about Japanese exports. Whatever you're spouting about some of this data, isn't that good? You have to say the claims numbers encouraging now it's coming back into I get that. But come on. I'm looking at Durham books. Should we talked to somebody experts smiling? Make crane joining us. Now, she is of course, many life asset management global chief economists Meghan you've had a brief look at the dates. What do you think? Yeah. So I would agree that the jobless claims look good, but actually often the jobless claims and then on farm payroll, data don't move block. Instead. So I would only get so much credence to that. It's the non durable goods data that a little bit more concerned about it's not looking fantastic until off the back really bad retail sales print that we have last week is suggesting that that you know, that the economy is slowing down expected reframing, Meghan. I mean, are you like a one point zero for the first quarter? And so we revised our forecast for the first quarter down a bit but not down to one point zero. It does bring her average for full year down to two which is around potential growth as you what two zero two point zero percent. So it does. Yes. You know, a bigger slowdown even we had been expecting. But again, you know, that's gonna be well above what we're seeing in the rest of the day. So Megan what does this ultimately mean for the Federal Reserve because a lot of people are trying to build a narrative is the next move a cut or a hike might take away from the minutes is weak at nothing from them at any time soon. I completely agree. Reading nothing anytime to what you mean kind of through the first half of this year. The second half of this year. I think having a really different conversation about what Chris is looking like globally editor US largely because of what's going on in China. So the military stimulus measures have has the headlights in China. I think it's a fiscal stimulus measures that are actually been more powerful. They started six months ago and are starting to hit the real data and we've seen aggregate credit data looking a little bit better. Maybe the fiscal stimulus is starting to hit. The monetary stimulus is helping on the margin. I think China will be reaccelerating in the second half of this year that will benefit Germany and Japan directly use less directly. But we'll certainly be the us as well. So. And Chinese person global growth the biggest concerns to the biggest cross the last one. I think that'll look better by the second half of this year. Asking this question because you've got Manulife out of Montreal and Toronto. And you've got your work with John Hancock in Boston. So the dollar matters in the day to day life of Manulife, given what you just said are you able in a conservative firm like Manulife to have a dollar belief or a dollar call given these cross-currents? Yes. Oh able to have one. And I do I think most factors. Dr. The dollar. She get weaker particularly the. Yeah. The central banks. Globally. So they're here in the US, the only big risks to that call is trade. And if you know if we get a reinstallation, and the trade war the PBS steps away from the Rigby drive the dollar higher. So that's that's big risk. And China's restarting in the second half of this year in the US is slowing down. Stay off the table green. Thank you so much from Jackson park and Fort Myers today with us is with Manulife manager is John. I look at it. And again, I want to reiterate that not only do you see in some of the data the negative tilt, but the revision was negative as well. I do the same thing with jobs. First thing I do is go to that one and two months revision in full that right into the number. So let's deal with positive and the negative news the positive news. It's claims have come right back positive for the life a weekly. That's really good news. Let's hope we found this trend for the labor market in America. The negative news is that nonmilitary capital goods orders, this excludes aircraft and is widely used as a proxy for business investment right down zero point seven percent from the previous month, that's worrying and that will be the administration as well. Because they're hoping for this supply-side response from the tax initiatives of twelve months of Sabato, and that doesn't seem to be coming through in the data. I didn't talk directly to add Hyman about durable goods. But he's. Hardwired? And he does a green span thing John where it's hyper granular about business across the country. And he just said basically CEO's are frozen because of all of these distractions led by trade. So how much of it was just the price action of the end of the year Tom into December, which worry perhaps many CEO's many businesses. Remember that the equity market in America is actually quite decent proxy. Just for gauging confidence for the consumer for businesses and how much Thomas about a sustained slowdown now into nineteen and into twenty. We don't know the answer. I just frames. The debate though for the next few months in America. Emmy soybeans back to where they were in two thousand fifteen bounced up a little bit. But they're barely up forty percent of the move back to normal pre-trade hysteria. So another guest said earlier, soybeans and agriculture hurting as well. Please stay with us on economics finance investment. This is Bloomberg. For the news in New York.
