I feel like old classic films get a bad name. Yeah. Get a bad rap because here's what I think the critics like to do. They like to look at old films, they like to say, what was popular in the day? Well, I don't like that. I'm too good for that. I'm going to look at this thing that people didn't really appreciate in the day. And I'm going to show everybody why I'm so much more sophisticated than everybody else. I'm going to explain why I understand why this is so good. Because I'm so special and smart. Exactly, exactly. They're like peck from Ghostbusters. Actually. And they want everybody to think they're so smart. So the reality is if you just look at some of the stuff that was made for the popular folks, that was made for the general population, right? The comedy, the comedy love stories. A lot of this stuff, the William Powell, mirna loy, those films. I like the thin man movies. But also, anything with Katherine Hepburn and these old comedies where you would get a couple, there would be some kind of miscommunication. They'd get into some kind of an adventure, these movies were actually fantastic, very, very funny, very charming. And well written. And well written and really well written. Really

Chris Kohls Reflects on Harold Ramis' Performance in "Ghostbusters"
"Any hobbies? I collect spores molds and fungus. Another classic line perfect for T-shirt, the late great Harold Ramis. There was supposed to be a side bar story of a romance between Annie Potts Janine and Harold Ramis character. It wasn't really developed, but he brings so much to all of this as well as the person who helped scale back aykroyd's script and make it far more manageable ramus didn't just act in it. He also wrote a lot of the final Ghostbusters. Yeah, him and reitman says that he basically came up with the whole concept of this as a startup business as opposed to an already existing business like franchise, which was originally was going to be. And yeah, what they did here is great. It's almost like a superhero origin story. And I got to say Egon is perfect. Whatever, you know, Harold Ramis was thinking Egon was going to be. He said, I played it as a new age Spock from Star Trek. It was spark for the 1980s. Perfect. Perfect. But see, the weird thing is he doesn't come across as Spock. But he comes across as whatever, you know, a scientist, a serious scientist who really takes his job seriously. He does have this kind of ability to almost to take things too seriously and not to get jokes and to take everything literally like it's unclear whether he even understands that the secretary is hitting on him. That's not even obvious. So it's like, and he's perfect. The way he plays that he created, you know, sometimes when we're acting, we think we're presenting the character in one way, and then you watch it back and it's something else. And this is one of the reasons why some actors hate watching themselves. Because they're like, oh, that's not really what I was trying to do. It doesn't matter if the audience loves it, it wasn't what you were trying to put on screen. But whatever he was trying to put on screen, this worked.

"Is kind of a sui generis movie. It's its own category, isn't it? I mean, it's comedy, but it's Supernatural. It doesn't fit into any other category, right? No, up until I would say probably about maybe ten years ago or something like that. I never even considered it a comedy. Somebody mentioned that it was a comedy sort of like Back to the Future. People mentioned that these movies are comedies from time to time and you don't really think too much about it. But when I was a little boy, possibly because I didn't understand the jokes. Because, you know, a lot of kids love this movie. But we didn't love it 'cause it was funny. We loved it because it was this epic adventure. And I look at this. Look at this. Look at this scene. Special effect here of the eggs cooking was actually the eggs cooking. They actually turned that island into a hot plate. I mean, this is, this is old school, but isn't it perfect? Oh, brilliant, brightly done. And actually, when I was a kid, that alone freaked me out. 'cause if you're like a 5 6 year old kid and you're seeing that happen, you're like, what the hell is going on with those eggs? And her expression is perfect. I gotta say, so Gordon weaver's performance in this film. She's not really my type. I wouldn't say she's my type. If you want to see my type, watch the music video of the song Ghostbusters. That chick is hot. But it's according to weaver isn't really my kind of girl. But her performance is so good she sells it. She sells it as being sexy. She sells it as being vulnerable. She sells it as being concerned as being intellectual. And Bill Murray at the beginning. Her and Bill Murray, I just said, are you like some game show host? You're not a scientist. Great line as well. And when you're an adult, you get those lines. If you're older, you watch it again. She's like, you don't see much like a scientist. And he's like, yeah, scientists are pretty stiff, I guess. She goes, you're more like a game show host. And he's,

Let's make movies great again with mister Reagan Chris Cole's our co host today, Chris. Isn't this the most fun part of the week? It really is. This is the only part of the week that I genuinely look forward to. The rest of us just reading about transgender people and whatever the hell is Joe Biden's mumbling that day. No, I like you, you said this before we started the show today. I just love this part of the week. I just love this one. The fact that I have to have to make time every week to watch really cool movie, then make some notes and then just talk about it with you, Chris. It's amazing. Fantastic. Fantastic. All right, so you chose this movie. Let's start with the fact that some of my team members here, they don't get it. They don't think they don't understand what the hullabaloo is. Come on, Chris, this is like iconic, no. Oh, I think part of it has to do with the fact that you got to understand today, everything is computer generated graphics. Everything is bright colors and pretty pictures and everything's magnificent. Back then, you didn't have this kind of very special effects heavy movie come along every day. And when this one came along, it not only had the beautiful special effects, which for us was actually, I mean, this was the best that we had. This wasn't like, you know, it's sort of like, when you go back in time and you talk about the kind of toys that we had to play with as kids and stuff like that. I mean, this movie looked really cool, but also you had to pair that with really why I would say a fantastic story. One of the best stories in cinema, and these guys are just great characters, fantastic characters. So you put everything together and you know what? It was just a heck of a lot of fun.

"A little bit about the world that was created by mister Howard and also the man who I think probably more than anybody else before the movie. Helped us to visualize this world of Conan, and that's the artist Frank frazetta. So let's put up some of these incredible images. These were actually the covers of the novels in the 60s and 70s that I think, along with heavy metal in France, kind of helped to define a whole genre. So you don't get Conan, you don't get sword and sorcery. You don't get that whole subculture of media and movies without this, his Conan, the aged Conan the king, this is a whole world in and of itself, isn't it, Chris? Oh yeah, you know, everybody in the documentary that I watched the sort of behind the scenes documentary. Talked about these images, these paintings, and back then back in like the 70s, that was a really big deal. If you had amazing cover art, you mentioned you mentioned heavy metal magazine. Yeah. They made a heavy metal movie. And I just watched a YouTube video comparing the heavy metal movie with 5th element, the movie 5th. Totally. And they essentially ripped off the heavy metal movie. Yeah. Almost seen for scene, in some cases, with the 5th element. And it had that kind of influence in the 1970s that people don't really remember. I don't think. And I certainly didn't really understand this until I got much older because I wasn't around back then. So I didn't know about it. I was unaware. So what are these things that get to lost in time? "Let's start talking about the cast. We have William Smith playing the blacksmith who is the father to Conan, and here we have well, it's about steel and it's a riddle. I forgot the secret of steel and nothing on the battlefield. We found it. I just meant that God's a giant. The secret of steel has always carried with a mystery. He was foolish for Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one. No one in this world can you trust? Not men that women have beasts. This you can trust. What an incredible, incredible performance. So hypnotics, the manly man. Do you recognize the actor William Smith and where we saw him most recently, Chris? No, I don't. But the funny thing you mentioned how good this performance is, it's actually a relatively small part of film. Yeah. It's just this little sliver of this film. And it's so epic and it's so well done. Excuse me. Yeah. What do you want to see on? Live radio. That's what you want to see. Okay, just brilliantly done. I mean, this is what you can do with such a small part, right? I mean, this is truly a great act of this man. What has he done recently? Well, this is the interpreter. This is the interrogator, the intelligence officer. In real life, in the Korean War, who was colonel in red dawn. Do you remember the colonel who? Of course. Of course I have another movie. Another buddy of milius. 'cause this was first. Right. He gave him a big wig, massive beard, but just, you know, and that scene on the top of the mountain with the clouds going by. It could have been so cheesy, so fake, but it just works. The connection between the sun and the father. All right, talk to us about the rest of the cars. You mentioned some great performances. I'll give you my input, but tell us about the supporting actors. Yeah, you know, I was really struck by the king. This is played by a man named max von Sydow. And I had actually now really heard of this guy before. I've obviously seen him in many films, and I just haven't heard that name. What an underrated actor. I mean, I don't know all the stuff that he's been and I couldn't list you all of his films, but I know I've seen him in many, many projects. And what a fantastic performance. When he's talking about how he's got all this money, he's built up this massive kingdom, but all he cares now is about his daughter that's all he cares about. Dr. G and Mr. Reagan Rewatch John Milius' "Conan the Barbarian"
"This is iconic as well. So this comes out when, you know, I am a teenager originally in 1982. And for me, it's kind of had a legendary place in the pan of plea of my childhood, my teen years, but as I watched it yesterday, I sat down and I watched it from beginning to end. It changed in quality for me, Chris. This wasn't a cheesy exploitation movie with ropey sets and bad writing. Dude, this is a really good movie. Yeah. Yeah, it's really an epic. Yeah. Truly epic. I mean, you follow the hero's journey from the moment that he's changed as a little boy when his family is slaughtered by his enemies to the point where he finally gets revenge as an adult. Watching that journey is truly cool. I mean, my ancestors are Barbarians, right? They're the German Barbarians. And he's not exactly that, right? He's not exactly a historical depiction of a Germanic barbarian. But I was thinking about that when I was watching this. And I think part of the reason why this film is so good because you did have cheaper quality films of this type at the time. I saw that the sword and sorcery genre. Exactly. They didn't do quite as well. Why did this break out? I mean, first of all, Schwarzenegger, of course, magnificent performance there. There were some other magnificent performances which we'll get to. But I think the attention to detail, right? And I think that comes down to John milius deciding, we are going to put this in a northern European setting, even though they shot it in Spain. But we're going to make this a northern European warrior, just like the books, just like the historical Barbarians. And he did seem to try at least to make some semblance of something that a historian would recognize as the life and times of a barbarian. And

What Does Woke Mean?
"I was literally joking over the weekend. Next thing the left is going to say is coffee is racist. And then here it is. Here it is. Drinking coffee perpetuates white supremacy. These foods are woke, right? We can't take these people seriously. And they do not like us calling them woke, which is exactly why we should call them woke. Now, so again, let's just, let me make sure I just clarify. 'cause I said a few things and I said I'm pretty quickly, so I want you to understand they hate the left does hate the word woke because we, as a conservative or a constitutional movement, have managed to use their word against them. Remember, they used to use this word woke to talk about cultural awareness or cultural alertness specifically on social issues. Again, gay marriage was big and BLM when BLM was just a hashtag. So that's one. The second thing that the word woke does when you use by conservatives is it's all encompassing. They don't like that. You know, there was a time where liberals got to the point where they didn't want to be called liberals anymore. Even Hillary Clinton. So she went back to saying, I'm a progressive as if that were better. I mean, you could go see Woodford and FDR. They really tried to fundamentally transform the country as well, but she was like, oh, no, that's when, you know, the word liberal became a hot potato, so they didn't want to be called liberal, right? So then they wanted to be called progressives. Well, they don't want to be called woke. And so they don't like the way the way that we've gotten them into a dragnet. Now, what does woke mean if I'm being specific? Woke is simply this. It's whatever, and it should be somewhat ambiguous, all right? That's part of the weaponry. That's part of the political weaponry,

Taking the Word 'Woke' From the Left
"Now guys, you might be thinking Carl, why is this topic with woke the word woke such a big deal? It's a huge deal because it's a cultural indicator that we are starting to win. Here's what is really hard for those of us that are, let's say, on the right, if you will. I consider myself a constitutional restorationist. I believe that we're in a post. Judeo Christian, I believe we are in a post constitutional America, okay? That's where I believe that we're at. But I think that I don't think we've completely lost it or we can't restore it. All right, we've got plenty of fighters out there. The problem is this is not what's happened, what we've seen transpire from the left, how they destroyed the country, did not happen overnight. Now, it was, I mean, it was put on the fast track system during the COVID lockdowns. No doubt about it. But what they've been doing, trying to fundamentally transform the country. This is a, this is a project that's been going on from the left for a hundred years. And now conservatives are starting to fight back and realize it's more than just tax cuts. It's more than just elections. We gotta fight back in the cultural arena if you will. And we're starting to see inroads. People are starting to wake up and I'm gonna give you some examples.

I want you guys to go out and get it. And it's about how the left devastated youngsters all across the country with these whack behind lockdowns that did nothing, but exacerbate anxiety, depression, bad grades, put our kids behind, you name it. Didn't do anything to help the kids. So they talk about this stuff and all this woke nonsense. CRT DEI. Climate change that are impacting our children today scare the crap out of them. All right, so go out and get the book double down on the left is going after. They went after Bethany mandel. You know what? Go ahead and get her book again, she co authored co authored it with Carol markowitz. This is me just wanting to fight back against the left. And you're gonna be able to do it with their book. Now they're not a sponsor or anything like that. But I think this is very, very important. This is how we fight back. All right, so they're gonna stick the media on one of ours. All right, all right, we're gonna help them sell more books. But I do wanna play an audio clip for you. So this is what this moment went viral. All right, again, Bethany mandel, she's the co author of stolen youth this moment went viral. I want you to understand the background because she wrote a column over the weekend. And she explained what was happening at the time. She goes on this show the rising a show that put on by the hill, which is an online publication, but they have a YouTube channel or a regular television cable channel. I'm not sure it's been a long time since I've seen the scene of the show, frankly. But she appeared on the show. And she had a little brain fart, if you will, in the middle of the interview. But in the background, this chick has 6 kids that she and her husband are homeschooling. She had just got on. She was just dealing with two of her kids. She heard one of the hosts, I believe, if I recall her column correctly, say something kind of outlandish, kind of a dig towards, you know, families that have a bunch of kids. So here she was dealing with her kids right before she gets on. She hears something from them that kind of sounds like a dig. She's postured ready to go on defense almost after she hears this. But she but she's on to talk about her book. So here's the audio clip of Bethany mandel, the liberals went absolutely nuts, but they're not gonna win. We're about to beat their behinds in just a sec, but I want you to hear this. Audio clip, number one, pop up or Sean. And for Americans consider themselves very liberal. And probably fewer of them consider themselves to be woke. And so, you know, when we started that year, would you mind defining well because it's come up a couple times that I just want to make sure we're all on the same page. So, I mean, woke is sort of the idea that. This is going to be one of those moments that goes viral. I mean, woke is something that's very hard to define, and we've spent an entire chapter defining it.

Republicans Assail New York Prosecutor Investigating Trump
"This breaking from just the news had tip forgotten man, GOP led House judiciary demands, the Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg testify about possible Trump indictment. Guys, guys, I'm getting excited. I love when conservatives fight back. We don't have to take this crap from the left. A bunch of woke punks. We don't have to take this stuff anymore. And some in Washington on our side are finally getting a clue somebody say hallelujah, all right? So Jordan noted that the statue of limitations for any alleged crimes involving the former president is set to expire soon, likely explaining Bragg's rush to indictment. So, the Republican led house on Monday sent a letter to the Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg demanding that he testify about his possible indictment of former president Donald Trump overcharges, allegedly related to hush money payments to adult porn actress stormy Daniels. The letter was sent by judiciary committee chairman rep Jim Jordan, who was joined by House oversight committee James comer and house administrative administration committee chairman Brian Steele. The letter was obtained by Fox News and it says here and I quote, in light of the serious consequences of your actions, we expect that you will testify about what plainly appears to be a politically motivated prosecutorial decision. According to Jordan, Jim Jordan representative Jim Jordan. Of course, Trump said over the weekend that he expects to be indicted Tuesday, which would be tomorrow, but neither Briggs nor his office has confirmed the statement.

"Sit tight, pull the floor and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not backed by dawn, call the president. Well, I might have the president, president's number, but I just need to know. Chris Cole's, will you born ready or you just thrilled to be alive? There's a couple of things that were missed there. Come on, Eric has to sleep sometime. Eric, Eric, what are you doing? No, the best line in the film is, you know, you know what Jack Burton says at a time like this and the guy says, who's Jack Burton? And he goes, Jack Burton, me. I don't know why I always love that life. And then at the end, he's leaving. He's leaving to go back on the road. And Kim Cattrall sitting there looking all sexy, like, you know, you're just going to leave me here. And her friend says, well, aren't you at least going to kiss her? And he just turns to her and he goes, now. It's just what's up. It's like this movie is so crazy. There's so many unexpected moments. It's so funny. I mean, it's really a funny movie. And I don't know, I love that character. He's such a dope, but his buddy, his buddy, who's sincerely a badass. Wang, treats him with the utmost respect. I mean, he said when he's trying to cheat him out of his night's winnings. Yeah, you have that's true, yeah. But throughout the rest of the movie, as they're going out of this adventure, he sort of treats him like he's almost superior to him as a hero, right? And he's got this, he's sort of like AOC. Totally incompetent, but with tons, tons of confidence, you know?

Chris Kohls Talks Kurt Russell's Role in 'Big Trouble in Little China'
"There was nothing. That that's how it always begins. There is more. Fun way to start a movie that's egg Shen explaining after the event who Jack burden is and how much of a hero he is. Why? Because the producer said, he's such a dance. You've got to explain it. Let's put something in after they filmed the movie. They had to be far, Kurt Russell at the beginning of that little clip. Chris, an unusual character. And in the director's voice-over, if you watch it, they keep talking about the fact that other actors are like her also refused to take this part because they didn't want to look stupid and they just have this ego trip too many egos. I guess that doesn't surprise you having worked in Hollywood. No, yeah. People don't want to look bad. People don't want to look stupid. People don't want to look silly. But every once in a while, you just have to go with it and have a little bit of fun. And yeah, Kurt Russell's great. I mean, what a down to earth guy. He doesn't mind being a little self deprecating. The funny thing about this character is it really is over the top, like massively over the top. Everything he does is in that sort of John Wayne kind of attitude, right? There's a slow draw everything. He thinks that he's the hero of this story. But he's not the hero this story is buddy. Yeah, the little Asian guys, the hero. The little Asian guy. Who can kick anybody's butt? He's really the hero. He's got to save the girl. He's got to do all this stuff. Jack Burton shoots some concrete above his head and knocks himself out at one point in the movie.

Dr. G and Mr. Reagan Try to Classify "Big Trouble in Little China"
"I love this movie, always have. I'm a big John Carter fan, but this is, this is not your average John Carpenter fair, but first things first. And you know, he's a horror guy. I mean, the thing amazing all of his movies to have a horror thriller genre superb. I'm trying to understand first things first. What flipping category do we put this move for you? Is it comedy? Is it fantasies? It fancy comedy. Is it satire? What is this film? It's like it's completely, you know, the phrase sui generis was designed for this film, wasn't it? Yeah, I think this is why the film didn't do so well in the box office while it was very difficult to market. It's like, I don't even know what this is. When I say one of the best films ever made, I say that a little bit tongue in cheek because it is hard to nail down what this film is. It I think of it as a comedy, but if you watch it as a comedy in 2023, the jokes don't all land, I think, because it's very much a comedy for the age that it was produced in. And there's so many special effects in it. It's so wild and it's so 80s. I mean, this is one of the most 80s, 80s films ever produced, you know? That's how I would categorize it an 80s film. But also amazing effects. I mean, it's got the same guy who did the effects for the thing. And also, you know, the and Ghostbusters. Yeah, and Ghostbusters, but also the production quality. I mean, just the sets. I mean, I listened to the movie with the director with John Carpenter and Kurt Russell talking through the whole thing. They were using his sets from this movie in music videos for the next decade. Janet Jackson just said, leave that there. I'm doing my next pop music video on the set of the battle at the end of big troubling little China. This was not a cheap film to make.

"Okay, what else do we need to say about this incredible movie? I love this one thing. If you're a gun not like me and Chris can attest to that. So can John, there's this moment. Do you remember at the beginning when they just landed the troop is just landed and the officer gives guidance to one of his lieutenants, go to the gun stores and get form four four 7 three, which is the background check you have to do to buy a gun. Why? What's the message? This is a massive gun guy. I mean, he's the Second Amendment. Yeah, this is a political idea of who have this form. You've got the addresses of everyone who bought a gun. This is the trouble. And actually this makes sense. This could have even been the idea behind the entire script. Yeah. It's like this is a problem. Like what if this happened? They're like, oh, what if this happened? This is a good idea. Maybe let's not have lists of people who have guns in case somebody wants to take our liberties away from us. What I actually saw that part of the film, I thought, well, that can't be real. Okay. But yeah, that makes sense, because back then they wouldn't have had some kind of Internet database. And i think again this is because of either something about the blood or it could have to do with putting the red color on their foreheads. But but it's funny. "Sit down do that ten times. Every hour spent at least ten percent of the time you do working on doing some kind of movement you get up you walk around the office. You circle your arms. Do big circles right so you weren't shoulders and so it goes on so lots of stuff like that that you can do and i think we all know what we need to do. You just gotta have the will to do it. He and research do you know. Even when i used to go away away travelling and filming all the time you might have to start work seven or even a little bit earlier. But i knew that if i set by alarm half an hour earlier than i to gap i could just go for a run around the blow or do whatever or find a kind of like even just a long stretch of path and run up and down. And if i do that for half an hour. I would then feel like i've really started the day on a great no and it just it just really help and if you don't have time to do that and you're doing you know your normal work routine you could do in the habit of doing which is just run home a run as much as you can do at the end of the day and it kind of kind of doubles up. Kills two birds one stone. It's commute on work at the same time absolutely arrived. I think we're just gonna have to become more disciplined unless something you can't teach anybody they have. I should take gonna take the discipline in the hand and recognized that the healthier. You are the better you off every single person who matters in your life and also don't do it alone. I was away from the the kind of support mechanism. I had and i had to reestablish new friendships so i started going to the harrow legis center and then going to the harrow. Alleged center ice started running into lots of things. And that's where. I got my first of lightbulb moment when it came to fitness and that was in nineteen ninety-three wilkin into a hole. Where about one hundred hundred and twenty five women were working out to what was then called mobility and there's a different track went on. They do a different move. And and i was transfixed. That was the kind of moment that for me. I saw you know what. I'd love to be doing this full time. And but i didn't know where it would take me and i set up my own classes doing exactly what they were doing. Getting two ladies from that class to teach the classes full man.
