"With an official impeachment inquiry the house eventually impeached president Donald Trump on two articles obstruction of Congress and abuse of power and in just a few minutes the months long impeachment process is expected to end in the Senate with acquittal as we wait for the votes were joined by some of the entire team that's been covering this from the beginning congressional correspondent Susan Davis and White House correspondent Tamera Keith here in the studio things you both Hey there also senior Washington editor and correspondent Ron Elving good to be with you and Michele Kelemen who covers diplomatic affairs for NPR thanks so much Michelle hi there as right now we have our eye on the Senate floor they're going into a quick recess subject to the call of the chair as they say Mitch McConnell just took the floor to speak and sue I want to talk with what is the news of the day just a bit ago Republican senator Mitt Romney stepped on to the four to announce that he was actually going to break ranks in vote for impeachment here's a little bit of how we justify that as it is with each senator my vote is an active conviction we've come to different conclusions fellow senators but I trust we've all follow the dictates of our conscience I acknowledge that my verdict will not remove the president from office the results of this Senate court will in fact be appealed to a higher court the judgment of the American people that about sums it up but can we talk about the person who broke ranks in the end also with you soon yeah I was actually at a surprising bit of an emotional moment on the Senate floor in the beginning I was remarks you seem to get choked up almost tearful understood the enormity of what he was about to do in the political consequences of it like you said this doesn't change the outcome today we do believe that the votes now will be fifty two to forty eight in fall almost exactly on party lines except for Romney to be the only one that breaks ranks and I would note that also in an interview with fox news today he said that he knew he was doing this and would invoke the RAF not just against himself but his entire family and then he had that conversation with his wife and sons and decided that it was the right thing to do he is of course a very devout mount Mormon and cited his faith and said he took an oath before god to do impartial justice which is the oath that senators taken an impeachment trial and they could not with his own conscience and conviction set way in and say that what the president didn't do what the president did was not wrong I want to add one more voice to this senator Doug Jones he is a Democrat from Alabama here is a him for casting his vote however after careful consideration of the evidence developed in the hearings the public disclosures the legal precedents in the trial I believe that the president deliberately and unconstitutionally obstructed Congress by refusing to cooperate with the investigation in any way the person that hangs over all of this is the might of president trump the political might so to speak right Doug Jones is while highly celebrated a vulnerable Democrat in his state ten can you talk about this idea fear of backlash Ronnie's sort of spoke about it obliquely talking about consequences well and and Romney has already facing backlash the Republican Party the GOP has come out with talking points against him they say that president trump is more popular than him in Utah and there isn't a mean tweet essentially from his niece who heads the RNC this is Rama McDaniels yes Rhonda Romney Dan the Romney and and this is a very significant moment in that there has never been in an impeachment someone who broke with their party yeah I president of their party so Mitt Romney is breaking with a Republican president and it is particularly notable because Mitt Romney what has the presidential nominee of the Republican Party eight years ago and now he's a man on an island voting against the president of the United States are at risk of a very great backlash I I wanna before if we can squeeze this in before the Senate gambles back in and they do this big vote I want to just give it a little bit of a preview of what we are expecting in this next hour so how this is going to play out this big final moment of impeachment sue Davis doing to take down all of the drama is essentially over all they have left to do is vote and they will go on and on I was actually thinking of voting it looks like they're gambling and if we're hearing of this is justice Roberts presiding chamber as well as those in the galleries demonstrations of approval or disapproval are prohibited the Majority Leader is recognized she just as the Senate is now ready to vote on the articles of impeachment and after that is done we will adjourn the court of impeachment the clerk will now read the first articles as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell article one piece of power the constitution provides that the house of representatives quote shall have the power so power of impeachment unquote and if the president quote shall be removed from office on impeachment for and conviction of treason bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors close quote and his conduct of the office of president of the United States and in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of president of the United States and to the best of his ability preserve protect and defend the constitution of the United States and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed Donald J. trump has abused the powers of the presidency and that using the powers of his I. office president trump solicited the interference of a foreign government Ukraine in the twenty twenty eight United States presidential election he did so through a scheme or course of conduct that included soliciting the government of Ukraine to publicly announce investigations that would benefit his reelection harm the election prospects of a political opponent and influence the two thousand twenty United States presidential election to his advantage resident trop also sought to pressure the government of Ukraine to take these steps by conditioning official United States government acts of significant value to Ukraine on it's a public announcement of the investigations president trump engaged in the scheme or course of conduct for corrupt purposes in pursuit of personal political benefit in doing so president trump use the powers of the presidency and a manner that compromised national security of the United States and undermine the integrity of the United States democratic process he does ignored and enter the interests of the nation president trump engaged in this scheme or course of conduct through the following means one president trump acting both directly and through his agents within and outside the United States government roughly solicited the government of Ukraine to publicly announce investigations into a political opponent former vice president Joseph R. Biden junior and be a discredited theory promoted by Russia alleging that Ukraine rather than Russia interfered in the two thousand sixteen United States presidential election two with the same corrupt motives president trump acting both directly and through his agents within the outside of the United States government conditioned to official acts on the public announcements that he had requested AA the release of three hundred ninety one million dollars of United States taxpayer funds the Congress had appropriated on a bipartisan basis for the purpose of providing vital military and security assistance to Ukraine to oppose Russian aggression and which president trump had ordered suspended and be a head of state meeting at the White House which the president of Ukraine sought to demonstrate continued United States support for the government of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression three faced with the public revelation of his actions president trump ultimately released the military and security assistance to the government of Ukraine and has persisted an openly and corruptly verging and soliciting Ukraine to undertake investigations for his personal political benefit these actions were consistent with president trump's previous imitations of foreign interference the United States elections in all of this president trump abuse the powers of the presidency by ignoring and injuring national security and other vital national interest to obtain an improper personal political benefit he has also betrayed the nation by abusing his high office to enlist a foreign power and corrupting democratic elections where for president trump I search conduct has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security and the constitution if allowed to remain in office and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self governance and the rule of law president trump those warrants impeachment and trial removal from office and disqualification "I can't remember so much top headline news breaking over the weekend. I'm sure it has in my lawn and sometimes the lustrous career, but boy, I'll tell you rob gronkowski retiring yesterday right last night. And you got the Muller report being released on late Friday afternoon digested by attorney general bar over the weekend. And you get all the reaction to that. And we're going to talk about that a little bit more in just a second here and on top of that you get the tennis coach at URI. Resigning the women's tennis coach who's part of that investigation, of course, university of Rhode Island, women's tennis coach, Gordon Ernst charged in the national college recruiting scandal resigning university made the information public on Saturday Ernst accused of taking bribes of more than two and a half million dollars to accept a dozen recruits for the tennis team at Georgetown and nothing to do with recruiting at URI from two thousand twelve to two thousand eighteen Cranston native was named head coach at URI last August, and then was an op-ed piece our turn which was published in the Providence Journal over the weekend by Dave duly, the president of the university of Rhode Island and Thorburn who's your is athletic director. And it said our turn you are. I thoroughly vetted the coach it says here just read a couple of entries here. He said, we take strong exception to the tone and the content of an editorial in the pro-jo cheating their way into universities, especially as it relates to the characterization of the university of Rhode Island. Should the journal wrote the state's taxpayers are paying for that poor decision. Funding his salary while he's on paid leave from the school. Why didn't the university perform due diligence before hiring him? So the reaction in this opposite op Ed piece from president Dooley said how could we have known about Mr. Ernst record at Georgetown, Georgetown community didn't know in the George Town voice student newspapers. Now asking why they were not informed. How would you are? I have known that. There are issues regarding Mr. Ernst departure Georgetown's student newspaper printed this headline on March fourteenth, Georgetown, gave URI positive reference for former tennis coach after internal investigation into admissions misconduct, and the op-ed piece closes by saying we strongly believe in a free and diligent press. But in this case, the Providence Journal, simply got it wrong. And that appeared and op Ed piece over the weekend in the Providence Journal. All right. Let's get to the Muller report after the brief summary was made public. Says Alenia is calling for the release of the full Muller report. Well, I mean this bluer than blue you knew that was coming in here. Sam read from NBC ten four page letter to congress attorney general William bar summarize special counsel, Robert Muller's two year investigation into the Trump administration claiming that the president and his two thousand sixteen campaign did not conspire with Russia to influence the election. Whether or not you believe that it happened. I think it says good that we had the process that actually looked into looked into the details of what happened bars letter also claims looked into whether or not the president committed obstruction of Justice at this time. There's no conclusion Rhode Island congressman Jim Langevin is one of several lawmakers speaking out claiming they like to see Muller's report in its entirety. We need to make sure that the American people have the the the full picture of what director Mueller investigated, the people that were interviewed what their statements were. And again, ultimately. What the findings are other democratic Rhode Island. Lawmakers took to Twitter claiming to would like to see the report and the evidence behind it. Republicans also voiced their opinions on social media. Republican Representative Blake Filipi tweeted does Muller's report mean Putin also got to Muller one Rhode islander who didn't want to go on camera says he's shocked at what's been presented thus far. I sorta suspected that there may be some level of collusion. But without said, I I'm glad that the report came out. And then we have some answers answers are what congressman Lange of looking for especially when it comes to the future of democracy congress now after when it finally gets report is going to have to make a determination. I do more sanctions need to be imposed on Russia to send a stronger message rebuke to the to Russia invited me Putin for them trying to interfere with an influence our US elections now. President Trump also took to Twitter tweeting, no collusion. No, obstruction, complete and total exoneration. Keep America great. We'll have more details. Obvious. On this developing story. It's nine minutes after seven o'clock results from Friday's question. Do you think the public will see the full Muller report? Once it's released a sixty seven percent of you think we will while thirty three percent of you said, no. And we'll stick with the report for today's question. Do you agree with the president does the Mulder report fully exonerate, President Trump? You can log onto NewsRadio r I dot com. Yes. Or no one to leave a comment go to the Facebook page for the program, by the way, William bar the saying he made a decision on whether or not to charge the president with obstruction of Justice in his words made it with astonishing speed. It's ten minutes after seven o'clock at NewsRadio nine twenty one zero four seven FM. Let's hit the traffic center. Once again check in with John hamlet brought.

"Welcome back again to the sons of liberty one eight six six five eight two nine nine three three. I'm lane to your candor. I'm putting the question to America. I'm putting a question to those set legislators and representatives of transgressing the law, not upholding the law. What do you think of a new Bill next up on the docket a Bill calling forth, the beheadings dismemberments, saline injections of all abortion supporters? Let's light up the sky and rejoice. Hawks. These are the same people friends. That see it as they call it in their fallen reprobate nature, of course, that it's somehow immoral to execute. Criminal that is found guilty for the act of murdering innocent people that's going to the to the chair or he's going to be injected. Is going to be put to death. They're the ones that saying that that's immoral. But on the behalf of the innocent baby in the womb. Listen, they're pulling down the law from protecting those innocent babies in the why it's all about money. That's what it's about. It was just like when Judas betrayed Christ. It was about thirty pieces of silver. I know people forget that he went and hung himself. Right after that. Right. But what would be the response of the American people? Let it go. Get it out their friends come on. They're supposed to enforce the law. Not transgressed the law. And if you bring us in a law unto themselves and say to them, well, what if we said this about, you know, the outrage the mainstream media would be up in arms. Can you believe it? Bradley's calling for a Bill calling four for the beheadings dismemberment saline injections of all abortion supporters, America think because this is what they're doing and on top of it. They're lighting up the sky in rejoicing. And I said this the other day, and I just got to say it again all America, America. You have no idea you have no idea. Which asking for? I'm not just talking about those that are advocating the murder of innocent. But those accomplices that just give it a pass and let these criminals do the things that they do because they are criminals, according to law, they're criminals. If I brought one of these said legislators that is advocating the murder of the innocent in the warm up to the third trimester. Or saying, hey, listen, I'm going to pull the laws concerning if the baby comes Alterra botched abortion that there's nothing you can do about it. Into your house, and you had a baby. That's let's say a week old. And this this woman that's advocating for this that I'm highlighting even now came into your living room and seeing the baby. All the while knowing what she was advocating would you bring her into your house? I mean, these people come to kill still and destroy just like their father, John ten ten. Until we call it for what it is. It's murder. People aren't going to pay attention to what's going on because it's not their baby. Yeah. These are our babies, we are brothers keepers friends. Mr. Ernst said concerning this woman..
