What do you mean by earthquakes. I mean people were stunned. I mean it shook the place up. They had no idea that these allegations were out there against michael corn. They had no idea around the circumstances of his departure and some people were angry about that. They felt that they should have been kept in the loop. They felt that they had been misled. The lawsuit details to women's allegations against corn. Kirsten crawford is the plaintiff. Her allegation describes an incident in two thousand fifteen at the time. Corn was the executive producer for good morning. America and crawford was a junior producer. She alleges that in twenty fifteen she michael corner sharing an uber back to a they were in los angeles and that he was grabbing her grabbing. Parts of her body trying to kiss her. That's what she alleges. Mr corn again denies this and that when they got back to the hotel she went to his hotel room upon his request to bring him some advil that he had asked for that is according to the suit and then once she had done that he again made unwanted advances and she was eventually able to leave the room. Corn denies the allegations and calls them fabrications. He says that crawford and he exchanged friendly emails the day after the alleged incident which he says show. The alleged assault didn't happen. So did crawford tell anyone at the network about this. According to the suit crawford head confided in a friend after the twenty fifteen alleged incident and one of those people had told george stephanopoulos and in twenty seventeen. This is when stephanopoulos had learned of this. He asked crawford about it. He asked if this was true and she said yes. And george stephanopoulos said well. I think i have to take this higher up in the company. Now that i know of this. According to the suit he told three people. One was tanya menton. Tanya menton is the vice president of litigation for abc and she's closely involved in hr matters at the company according to the lawsuit. Abc requires an investigation into any harassment or assault allegations. Even if a victim doesn't come forward the suit alleges that the company didn't conduct an investigation after stephanopoulos told menton menton has not responded to requests for comment. abc said in a statement that they're committed to upholding a safe and supportive work environment. They have a process in place thoroughly reviews in addresses complaints. They also said though they dispute the claims made against it in this suit and will address it in the court. The lawsuit also turned a spotlight onto stephanopoulos. Who doesn't dispute how the suit represents his role in the events. There's some sense inside abc news. That should georgia ben more aggressive in terms of pursuing some sort of an investigation against michael corn who of course remained in his job for four more years and robin roberts said in a meeting that i'm paraphrasing the little but basically if it'd been someone on my team would burn this place down now. A lot of people read that as a swipe at george people. I've talked to at abc news. Say no robin was just expressing emotion. She enjoyed get along fine but clearly. There are some folks you know confused about how complaints could be made and so many people in senior positions know about it and yet allegedly nothing happened. Stephanopoulos declined to comment on. What his co anchor. Robin roberts said in that meeting crawford says. Abc didn't take action with her allegation but that changed earlier this year. Mr corn begin rubbing her arm and then rubbing her leg and placing his hand between her legs and she just kind of froze. The second allegation is from the following year. The lawsuit alleges that one night while they were travelling for work. Corn sexually assaulted mclean in her hotel room. How has michael corn responded to these allegations from twenty. Ten and twenty. Eleven is vehemently denied. Them he says these are fabrications. He points to being invited to jill's wedding. After these incidents as proof that clearly he hadn't done anything wrong or else why would she invite him to her wedding for my reporting what friends of jill told me is that he was her boss and she was inviting everyone from work and it would have been obvious if he wasn't according to the lawsuit. Mclean didn't report the incident to anyone at abc at the time but then according to the lawsuit mcclain told sawyer. What happened to her. Diane sawyer apparently taken aback by this and told jill that she needed to report it..

"Messages to your elected representatives were taking those calls were gonna edit them down, Put them in an audio file and then send them to all the e mails of the elected representatives. Let me check in. With Bill because he's been he's been taking all these calls in tabulating them. Yeah, Yeah, well, maybe we'll give you a break after the show. How about that? I'm gonna need one. Thanks. How it just We've been on the air since two. It zah about 2.5 hours. Money calls would you say we've taken with direct messages to their elected representatives? I would say at least 50. If not, Maura. I mean, unfortunately, everybody called in was able to get on. But I would say at least 50. Well, we're going to try to end to that little bit. We're going to tabulate what we've got this evening. Of course, tomorrow very, very excited to be talking with Rudy Giuliani will be with us. 333 30 central time. Have a lot of questions as you might expect. I'm sure you do, too. Andre. We may extend what we're doing for hours so then, but Um, yeah, uh, a lot of questions. And of course, we've talked to a lot of people from the White House about various lawsuits being thrown out. They were filed today late or you don't have standing or in Paxton's case. That he was trying to get hurt at the Supreme Court level. They said, Well, it's not attack the state of Texas business. What another state does, which I don't just see. I I need Britney Giuliani did tell me. How does that make sense? Certainly in a regional election, it's none of our business. Who you elect is your senator. Congressman Mayor What have you But if it's a national election if one state is abiding by the rules, and another state isn't um the cheating state seems to me to be disenfranchising. The votes from the states doing it legally. So we've got that in a whole lot more to talkto. Talk to Rudi about tomorrow and hopefully even join us for that. Let's let's get back to your calls. Thank you Bill very much, Neela in terrible, Neela. Thank you for waiting. Yes. Very merry Christmas trick, sir. I just wanted to say to my legislators, especially Senator Cornyn. Please don't give the keys of our country to the Chinese Communist Party. With the human rights atrocities they connect and their drug cartels. Please vote for the future of our country. We know that President Trump won in a landslide and giving bank robbers and thieves Our boats. Will keep all of us from having the country that has made a great country for everyone. And I really thank you for the opportunity to say this. New York. Thank you very good message. We will. We will edit it in we'll We'll get it on all the e mails of the elected representatives. We appreciate it very much. Um, Merry Christmas by the White Bob and Lone Oak. Bob. How you doing? I'm doing well, How about you, sir? I'm well, thank you. I want to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year before we get rolling here, And I'd like you to extend to Mr Giuliani tomorrow our prayers and hope that he his health is doing well that he recovers. No, From what he was dealing with the coded in this in this in good shape there. And I guess I need to start out by saying I met Mr Corn and about in 2013 when he was doing campaigning for the 24 14 or Excuse me the 2014 reelection. I met him at a function in the ski and I shook his hand and I spoke with him had a picture taken with it. And I asked him, I said Point blank. When are you going to Gather the rest of the Republicans together, have enough resolve to stand up to everything that's going on. That's wrong in Washington, D C and do the job. We've sent you up there for Yeah, And apparently my message didn't get through. I've spoken to a lot of people I plan on voting against Mr Cornyn. If I'm still alive when the next election shows up. When he's due to be considered for reelection, I will vote against him. I don't care who's running against him. I'll vote against him because I don't agree with what's going on. With what happened with this election is You know, say, lobby approach to how he's doing this? No, In response to the challenges that are being done. I mean, the evidence of blind man can see that something happened with this election. That's not right. Really? And you know, Bob, I think at the onset of this had an investigation been started luck if if Biden won fair and square. You know, I wouldn't like that, obviously, but I could accept it. And I think that's really where we are. You know people can live with people can live with something that don't like if they understand it. But if they don't like it, and they don't understand it, there's no place for them to put it, and statistically what occurred on the night of the vote? Is almost statistically impossible. And then if you go through all the accusations and the hundreds of sworn statements under oath, you can't tell me there's not something to be looked at there. I agree with you, But there's one thing we need to end this conversation on. It's the old saying that it's not a matter of who voted. It's a matter of who counts the votes, right? Right. What's happened to us? Who was that? Stalin? I think that was stolen. Yeah, Bob. Good call. Merry Christmas. I appreciated very, very much. Let's go to Judy and rock wall. Judy. Thank you for waiting. How are you doing? I'm doing Just fine, Rick. I appreciate your your your show and Merry Christmas to you. Christmas I spent 33 years in law enforcement. And if you let these people get away well, what they have done to this election. We will never Have another fair election. We have got to wake up the sleeping giant and say the fight is on. I agree. And right now, the people that really are the liaisons between the voters and those that's set in Washington in the bubble basically lording over all of us. Those people don't seem to be doing a lot, and I think that's what upsets Americans more than anything else. That's true and all the the riots and the in the liberal cities those were planned. They did that so people would be scared like the Supreme Court, which was a big disappointment that they would be scared they would cause riots. I'm gonna have to fight for this country. That's just the way this Judy having a lot of members of law enforcement in my family. It's not an easy job. Not everybody is wired to do it. I thank you for your service very, very much. And Merry Christmas to you. Thank you. Pray for our officers, Fireman and emergency medical program. A Mandarin. Hey, men, Judy..

And I recall, Don, jR, leave leaning over to his father and speaking in a low voice, which I could clearly here and saying the meeting is all set, and I remember Mr. Trump saying, okay, good. Let me know what struck me as I look back and thought about the exchange between Don junior, and his father was I think that Mr. Trump had frequently told me and others that his son Don, jR, had the worst judgment of anyone in the world. And also the Don jR, would never set up any meeting of significance alone. And certainly not without checking with his father. I also knew. That nothing went on in Trump world, especially the campaign without Mr. Trump's knowledge and approval. Faith. In those junior was referring to that June twenty sixteen Trump Tower meeting on Hillary with the. When he walked behind his dad's desk that day. And that Mr. Trump knew that was the meeting Don, jR, was talking about when he said, that's good. Let me know. Over the past year or so. I have done some real soul searching, and I see now that my emission and the intoxication of Trump power had much to do with the bad decisions in part that I made. And to you chairman Cummings ranking member, Jordan, the other members of this committee members of the house and Senate. I am sorry from my lies and for lying to congress to our nation. I am sorry for actively working to hide from you the truth about Mr. Trump when you need it. Most. Those who question my motives for being here today. I understand I have lied. But I am not a liar. Now, I have done bad things. Not a lawyer. I am not a bad, man. I have fixed things, but I am no longer your fixer, Mr. Trump. And I'm going to prison and shattered the safety and security that I tried so hard to provide for my family. My testimony certainly does not diminish the pain that I have caused my family, and my friends nothing can do that. And I have never asked for nor would I accept a pardon from President Trump. And by coming today, I have caused my family to be the target of personal scurrilous attacks by the president and his lawyer trying to intimidate me from appearing before this panel. Mr. Trump called me, a rat for choosing to tell the truth much, like a mobster would do when one of his men decides to cooperate with the government as exhibit h shows I have provided the committee with copies of tweets that Mr. Trump posted attacking me, and my family and only someone burning his head in the sand would not recognize them for what they are encouraged to someone to do harm to me and my family. I never imagined that he would engage in vicious force attacks on my family and unleash his TV lawyer to do the same, and I hope this committee and all members of congress on both sides of the I'll make it clear that as a nation. We should not tolerate attempts to intimidate witnesses before congress and attacks on family are out of bounds and not acceptable. I wish to especially thank speaker Pelosi for her statements. It's exhibit nine to protect this institution and meet and the chairman of the house, permanent select committee on intelligence, Adam Schiff, and you chairman Cummings for likewise defending the institution and my family against the attacks by Mr. Trump and also the many Republicans who have admonished the president as well. I am not a perfect, man. I have done things. I am not proud of. And I will live with the Connacht perfect because I disagree actions for the rest of my life today. I get to decide the example that I set for my children and how I attempt to change. How history will remember me? I may not be able to change the past. But I can't do right by the American people here today. And I thank you for your attention. And I'm happy to answer the committee's questions. Thank you very much. Mr corn? I now recognize myself Mr. coin before I start I wanna make sure you really understand something you have admitted lying to congress is that bad for this very body. And now you're going to prison for it. Do you Mr. coin recognize the gravity of your offenses? You are a lawyer as of yesterday. I am no longer a lawyer. I have lost my license amongst other things, but you understand the gravity of this moment. I most certainly to Mr Chairman, I want you to really hear this, Mr.. We will not.

Motion to table is agreed to. Let me say this. You've made it clear that you'd not want the American people to hear what Mr. corn answer saying. But the American people have a right to hear him. So we're going to proceed generic and people can judge his credibility for themselves. No. Yes. We did not say that we decided we wanted to follow the rules. We had it didn't say stop the hearing just postponent. So we could get his testimony and the exhibits when we were supposed to get them. According to the rules of this committee. That's always said we didn't say we didn't want to hear from the guy this Republican talking with Elijah Cummings. The democratic chairman now recognize myself for five minutes to give an opening statement. Today. The committee will hear the testimony. A Michael Cohen. President Donald Trump's longtime personal attorney and one of his closest and most trusted advisers over the last decade. When August twenty first Mr. coin appeared in federal court. And admitted to arranging secret payoffs of hundreds of thousands of dollars on the eve of the election to silence women, alleging affairs with Donald Trump. Mr. Cohen admitted to violating campaign, finance laws and other laws. He admitted to committing these felonies quote in coordination with the direction of unquote, Fresno Trump. And he admitted he admitted. Lying about his actions to protect the president. Some will certainly ask if the coin with lying, then why should we believe in now? This is a legitimate question. As a trial lawyer for many years, I've faced this situation over and over again. And I asked the same question. Here is how I view our role. Every one of us in this room has a duty to serve as an independent check on the executive branch. Ladies and gentlemen, we are in search of the truth. The president has made many statements of his own. And now the American people have a right. To hear the other side. Big and watched Mr. coexist amounting and make your own judgment. We receive a copy of Mr Collins written statement late last night. It includes not only personal eyewitness accounts of meetings with Donald Trump. As president inside the Oval Office. But it also includes documents. And other corroborating evidence for some of Mr. coins statements. For example. Mr. Cohen has provided a copy of check sent while President Trump was in office. With Donald Trump's signature on it. To reimburse physical and for the hush money payment to Swami Daniels. This is new this new evidence raises a host of troubling. Legal and ethical concerns about the president's actions in the White House and before. Would you close that door? Please. Thank you. This second date. August first. Seventeen. Six months later in April of twenty eighteen the president denied anything about it. In April twenty eighteen President Trump with flying on Air Force One. When a reporter asked them the question. Did you know about one hundred thirty thousand dollar payment to stormy Daniels? The answer was quote, no. I'm off for that. The president admitted to making payments to Mr. going but claim they were part of a quote, a monthly retainer and quote for legal.

"According to a Doherty's, and you're saying that you think the words of the president in public would encourage potential vigilante style violence, or is there something more? You're listening to that was beyond what Donald Trump said in the FOX interview at cetera about Coen family. All I'm describing the emotional thoughts of father in law from Ukraine is been here for forty five years in his call that by Giuliani as having links to organized crime because he's bum Ukraine. That's this defense lawyer who has no immunity, and that's witness tampering on its face. Secondly, you have Mr. Trump president of the United States calling Michael Cohen a rat. That's the mart for somebody who tells the truth to the government and he praises people using Twitter. And the message being sent at least according to family members is fear. And while we can kind of do that whether should be here or not easier. I tell you from personal now it's got other of Michael is the author of his wife is wife has been directly called out by the president height states as if she's a criminal. She's been named in two of his treats are fearful for his clearance here for I showed that was what was going on. And I just wanted to pin down Landy exactly the nature of what you're saying. And I understand it. I have congressman Eric's. Well, well, who's going to join this conversation with you? He, of course, is on both the judiciary and intelligence committees. Congressman thank you for joining me. I wanna put one more question to Mr. Davis here with you. Well, listening and visible to our audience because I think it comes to the crux of it. And that is. Lanny when you say that a subpoena can be complied with but you'll work out the details. Are you able to night to commit on the record to Mr. Cohen testifying to congress before he goes to jail or are you not ready to commit to that? I'm not ready to commit to that. Because I haven't had a chance to talk to Mr. corn about his medical condition and other issues that he's worried about I am authorized to say that subpoena is very serious and Michiko respects the Senate intelligence committee. He has already owned up to the fact that he lied about one issue to conform. His is story to what he understood Mr. Trump wanted him to say, and that was a lie and he's owned up to he's going to prison because of the same thing in the house, but I can't tonight commit to anything before we engage in some reasonable conversations. I'm not a criminal defense lawyer. We'll have to be another lorry that will be joining me and wonder understood stay with me landing. A congressman we turn to you is that good enough or in the view of the house does a subpoena mean within a reasonable time. And before this individual reports to incarceration. Well, subpoena means a subpoena, and I'll leave that to Mr. Schiff, Mr. Cummings. But if I could talk to Mr. Cohen, I would talk to him just like I would talk to any gang witness that I worked with as a prosecutor. And I would say Mr. Cohen you've already done the hard part you've broken away from the mob. You've told the truth you've come clean don't allow this bully of president to get his way he is a paper tiger, and you will be protected by special counsel congress. I know would do everything it could to make combinations. But the best thing you can do is to just tell the truth and stand up once and for all to this bully, and what do you think congressman of I know, you were listening in as part of our reporting of what Mr. Davis has Coen's adviser just said that there is a view there is what he described as genuine fear not only of meddling or investigative techniques by the president Richard Nixon got in trouble for that kind of abusive power. But of the idea that someone might hear the president's words and act violently does that strike you as a legitimate concern or really beyond the pale tonight. So it's a legitimate concern, but it would be more legitimate. If the Democrats did not control the house of representatives, but the days of mob rule are over we are no longer, powerless. We are able to stop this type of intimidation this type of tampering this type of obstruction and finally hold the president accountable..

"At that time, the only political movement in the United States that was even willing to entertain the idea of civil rights were people who were socialist and communists who were in the United States, but they were sort of the communist party hopes as people like that. So they made common cause with the labor movement in the civil rights movement is all kind of one idea that fell apart for various reasons that kind of fractured in the thirties. And then by the time, you get to the forty s everything kind of splits apart because the war happens, and there's various things that go on. And then that's why what's interesting about the fifties is what what coalesce is back together is now separate from the earlier political movements of communism in the United States like the FBI, basically again destroys the communist party in the United States, and it never really pulls itself back together. So what's different about king and the movement that he starts is. It's again, it's based in a kind of spirituality that for most Americans seems very familiar. It has nothing to do with with communism. Now, that's not to say the king didn't feel sympathetic to socialism to some degree is the common denominator is the enfranchisement of the downtrodden. Right. Right. And he he writes about that very early. There's a letter he writes to Coretta Scott King, actually before they're even married where he says, well, you know, that I'm sympathetic to socialism. You know, I'm not a communist. But you know, that I think capitalism's kind of wearing itself out at this point. But he's not he's not a Marxist. You know, what I mean now later in his career, he speaks very openly about the fact that he feels like the capitalist system is being used to exploit and down, you know, degrade African Americans and other minorities, but he never he never quite makes the leap to saying. Well, you know workers world unite. It's it's it's an interesting thing that he does there before we break just I wanna put things in perspective. Now, there are folks have their below a certain age will think any fear of communism was crazy and paranoid. However at the time there were threats there were spies. There were spies in the Manhattan project Stalin knew knew about the bomb before he was told about the bomb. Right, right. So it's it's not insane of Hoover to be looking out for communist threats city. Well, we as we know he was a little bit. Overeager? I guess so there's that. The Sunday shows continue in ten minutes time here on C span radio until then we take you over to C to it is the first Sunday of the month the first Sunday of the year. And we always welcome guest for a three hour discussion. In-depth on C span. Two today. Our guest is David corn Washington bureau chief for mother Jones magazine, talking about his books and taking calls from viewers and listeners Mr. corn is the author of blonde ghost showdown and the recently published Russian roulette, and we joined this discussion in progress was decisive in the election as well. As a dozen other decisive factors not on its own. So I already believe that whatever Robert Muller will make make known to the public or anything that comes out of the Senate intelligence committee investigation that still underway. There's already enough to say the Donald Trump acted in a way that you could call betrayal. He helped a foreign power get away with an attack that was very delivered on our democracy in our electoral system. And that's, you know, whether you're on call that colluding colluding with the Russian cover up helping them get away with it. And to me that is the big fact here that has not been fully absorbed that Trump has indeed succeeded in creating a different standard on which to be judged. And in fact, David corn, you wrote in mother Jones piece in a non Trump fide world. Revelations of this behind the scenes scheming for profit would have set off an enormous political earthquake after all this was the most significant conflict of interest in modern American campaign his history, but Trump has changed the rules of what counts as a political scandal. I mean think about this when he was running for president and often asked to talk about Putin and Russia in which you bizarrely often said things that were positive about Putin and fended off criticism of Putin. He was trying to do a deal in Moscow. That would have brought him hundreds of millions of dollars. According to Robert Bullard, one of the pleadings in the Michael Cohen case. So he's not he's not a dummy. He knows he can't have a deal that go through if he's out there criticizing Putin and Russia. He's campaigning is the American America first candidate yet here, he is in the gauge in this in this in this project in Moscow that he's not telling the public about. Any fact he's lying about his relationship to the guy. Man, named Felix sater's who's pulling it together. We write about this in the book when asked about Felix Seder in December of two thousand fifteen man he had worked with for years. I don't think I'd recognize it. But that very moment Seder is negotiating the steel in Russia for Donald Trump and Trump already signed a letter of intent. So these fully aware of all this now any other candidate at any moment in time. If he had been while campaigning secretly. The head of a foreign power even a rival power and say, hey, can you help me make hundred million dollars a year? I think that would have been that in and of itself, put aside collusion, put aside aiding and abetting put aside the Trump Tower meeting put aside any of that stuff. That in itself should be subject of congressional hearings and investigation, it's a major thing. But Trump throws so much. Chaff into the air. Then sometimes hard to see things clearly, and there are so many different scandals. Now that that he's I think purposefully making this sort of dizzying pattern. You know, Saudi prince one to one of his apartments hotels last year, bought nine million dollars in rooms he might not have even needed. That goes directly to Trump's company directly to his pocket. So you don't think that the Saudis let Trump know that they did that. This is like bribery, and that only became public because a mental about it. We don't know this could be happening every week at the Trump hotel any one of his properties that nine million dollar payoff. I mean, Richard Nixon got in trouble for taking a cloth coat. Getting a pet dog checkers. You gave a speech about it. And then we're talking about millions of dollars in money that might be considered bribes. And that's just one thing right there. I mean, you can talk about Zinke Pruitt and. And Wilbur Ross, I mean, they're all these nepotism, they're giving out security clearances. I mean, they're the Democrats have taken over the house. Now must really be puzzling horrid about what to focus on tax returns Deutsche Bank. The president United States has owes hundreds of millions millions of dollars to a foreign Bank said regulatory trouble with the Justice department here for a number of reasons, including. Scandal of their own which which might might involved Russian money laundering. So do you focus on that focus on the emoluments the payments? So going back to the Russian deal. I think that any other any other set of circumstances. People would have been screaming. Holy hell, and even Republicans would have, but they have made a strategic calculation. The Republican party that they're going to tie themselves to the mast the USS Trump and ride it or go down with it. David corn Washington bureau chief for mother Jones magazine is live now on C span.
