"To gunfires right and so it's almost like a relief. Valve is like you know as long as it all went. Well leading up to that gun firing. That's that's the part of the race. I look forward to the most in terms of satisfaction. We did it. I know that a lot going to occur. People are gonna get sick and hurt maybe along the way and we have people in the medical tent you know it is a banana. Peel is picked up necessarily from me. It's win gunfires now. I've never been at the start of the boston marathon. Because i've never run the boston marathon. Who fires the gun is it. You know. I guess they've no. That's the reason why i even got the job to begin with because in one thousand nine hundred seven. The brown family walk long history with the marathon. Use a member of the family usually the gun there on the status platform typically way back when when the clock struck new time. They fired the gun. While that year there was a row holding around his back and mr brown raised brennan. He shot the gun in the row for still up in people status tripping in all. I can't stop so somebody had the idea that maybe we should hire someone to kind of take a closer look at all this and they hired me as a consultant technical coordinator and all i did was removed the rope but it's never happened since that it hasn't happened since remove the road. Put a human chain of volunteers there. And i'm standing on the ground and so i'll tell the human chain to move out of the way i have a headset with the countdown. I won't signal the fire. Remembering Jamaican Producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry
"In a realm where eccentrics are taken for granted. Jamaican musician Lee Scratch Perry was singular. Perry was a hugely influential producer and not just in his home genre, Reggae but in dance, music, hip hop and beyond. Perry died in Jamaica on Sunday at age 85. NPR's Anastasia Sulcus has this appreciation. Lee Perry got his nickname from a song he recorded early in his career chicken Scratch. Good. Someone like chicken scratch. He also called himself the upsetter. It was an apt description on many levels. He had a habit of having acrimonious splits with former mentors and artists he previously championed. You'll never get away from me. I am upset at Perry's own studio Black, Ark. He worked with many of Jamaica's biggest talents. Including junior Mervin, the hep tones, the Congo's and Bob Marley's band. The Whalers. Mr. Brown is a clown rides through town, even thoughtful. Black Ark. Was like a chemistry lab for Perry's sonic experiments. He was a pioneer of dub, underlining the base and adding reverb to create lots of oral space. He also sampled before most people knew the term or the technique used found sounds and even buried microphones underground to get the effect he wanted. Perry's partnership with the Whalers ended badly he secretly sold tapes they'd made with him to another label and kept the money. Years after building his fame studio, Perry reportedly burned it down. He was an impish, erratic presence, often in his later years, sporting neon colored hair and beard and fantastical

"The shooting death of 42 year old Andrew Brown after last month since Mr Brown was shot We all we heard was that he was executed shot in the back of the head. He was just sitting in his car with his hands on the wheel, and these deputies opened fire on him as there is serving a felony drug warrant. Well. Now the full video itself has come out and the state investigation found they were justified in the use of force because Mr Brown drove his vehicle towards them and allegedly made contact with one deputy at least two times before officers fired. So the FBI has said they're going to open a civil rights investigation. I cheer if that will continue. But this has, um I have some not a lot of parallels to the case. We went through here in Cincinnati. Some degree and that involved then University of Cincinnati police Officer Ray Tensing and the light Sam DuBose, who was shot in a traffic stop. The attorney representing Ray Tensing is stew Matthews and he joins me on the show Now to talk about this case and others on 700 wlw Still, how you been? How's life Everything good? Our life is busy. Scott. It is. I know you really busy, so I really appreciate you taking time out to join her on the show. Always do. Um, In this case, I don't know if you saw the body Cam video. I watched a few times that not the best quality or angles, but He was shot five times. Mr Brown was including in the back of his head, and that's what the autopsy report said by family attorneys last month, But the D a shared four body camera videos yesterday. And basically, it's this. They did A whether they didn't do it Entry. They saw him in his car. They got out the back of the vehicle. Um, I know it was an am rat or what? But anyway, they get out. They are in tactical gear, tactical weapons. It's tactical approach. And there's a least four if not five. Officers surrounding his vehicle is he tried to back out. He ignored commands to put the car turn the car off, put his hands on the wheel, and at some point there, he decided I'm going to back up towards officers but drive forward towards officers two at which point they opened fire. And killed Mr Brown kind of what we thought would happen. But the narrative for the last month has been the Brown was sitting in his car with his hands on the wheel and they just shot him and he didn't do a damn thing. Look at all the unrest and look at all the speculation and problems that this whole line cause we saw this during the tensing trial as well. Well, no doubt about that, Scott. And what happens is that the narrative the initial narrative gets gets put out, um many times by plaintiff's attorneys. Who are looking to create a pot of money, um from a descendant of potential descendant, and that narrative is what sticks regardless of what the investigation ultimately shows. I'm not real familiar with the case in North Carolina, But my understanding is that multiple officers fired in that case is opposed to just one. So, um, you know, these situations have to be looked at And from the eyes of a reasonable officer on the scene in that moment, with everything that's going on when multiple officers fired the same time, it suggests to me that Um they all felt the same. Same fear Danger on D felt justified What they did. Yeah, he in this case, I look at it, but it's pretty clear because they have Sheriff's office. They have tactical vests on they have. You know, it's it's pretty clearly It's Zsa, right? They're gonna serve this this felony warrant on and the reason they do. That is because They know that this guy's armed if not nor dangerous, There's nothing more dangerous than either pointing weapon or this case. The weapon is a car towards police. So when I think he's been cropped, the family attorney said initially that he was sitting. Mr Brown was sitting in his car, his hands on the wheel when the first of numerous shots, including the back of his head were fired. On, he said this after seeing the video that wasn't released to the public, but to the family, and the quote was we did not see any action. Mr Brown's part we made contact with them or tried to go in their direction. In fact, he did just the opposite. When there's a group of law enforcement that were in front of him, he went in the opposite direction. So basically they're arguing and at that time is that somehow it's the police's fault for being near the car. A car is a deadly weapon is a gun or a knife. And if you're trying to escape and you're running over a car surrounded by police officers, I think the prudent thing that it would be okay. They got me. They're going to serve the Warren and take me into custody. He tried to get away by running the officers over with a £4000 vehicle in the last month. It's been about how these air bad cops and they shot him while he was sitting there. Should there be some sort of change in the law relative to these attorneys have come out and do these things. Ben Crump is the latest example of many that basically lie about what they saw on what happened, Jen ups public's opinion is support it and make a toxic environment for everyone that lives in that community. Should there be repercussions for that is attorney You know, I don't know. Ben Crump is notorious anymore for showing up. Immediately upon the scene when there's a shooting of an African American individual, Um and he puts out his own version of whatever he thinks. The facts are Andre. Somehow they seem to stick and the municipalities or the the governmental entities that are involved pay him large sums of money, and then he disappears and moves on to the next one. But but your professions do, um, shouldn't ask. It sounds like it's problematic for you. Someone who defended Ray tensing, but I think this problematic for society because look at the claws when it comes to lost property loss and police, you know, having to Ah, you have to police areas where there's protesters and you have out of towners protesting coming in and cause a lot of problems for everybody. Based on information that in this case bench comp trump was bent from Ben Crump knew was wrong when he said it should they is there something that like the bar association be involved with in these cases and looking and go. Hey, we got to set new standards for her attorneys in this case. Well, I You know, I don't know. I don't get into that. Scott. That's unethical issue, And there are lots of rules that apply to lawyers. But, um, but lawyers for for probably hundreds of years and Have advocated for their position right or wrong on bats just kind of the nature of the game. I might. My wish is that some municipality or governmental entity with called Ben Crump on one of these things and go to trial with it..
