"E. S. P. N. S. we have called back on the schedule for this summer and on into the fall major golf major move by the NFL to go all virtual for the draft thanks for making sports center all night part of your night I'm J. roughly a week after the attack it was baseball that helps the country heal we have no magic cure for the corona virus or even a vaccine but baseball maybe try to put itself in a position to heal the nation once again baseball and the players union are focused on a plan that could allow this season to start in may in Arizona there are a number of hurdles to clear but the plan has emerged as the likeliest to work MLB is behind it the players union hasn't rejected out of hand and it does have backing from federal public health officials the plan according to sources would have all thirty teams be in the Phoenix area and play games at stadiums with no fans in the area there but there would be a lot obviously to do between now and may ESPN's Jeff Passan if they get to the point where they are ready to go inside the biosphere here's what's gonna happen there's gonna be a two week period and this could be a two week period that is used as a new spring training where players coaches managers everybody inside of there are getting tested and look those tests need to be available in and I'm finding quality to ensure that baseball players are getting the same criticism that NBA players got like Hey why are these people getting tested when those who are actually sick can't so you need a lot of tests and there's the expectation that that's gonna happen if someone gets sick at that point what doctors and public health officials have told Major League Baseball the players is that you do not necessarily have to shut down if we have the testing if we can contain this if the entire room has not been infected well we're going to have much bigger rosters and that is a big part of this whole plan because Scott when you take into account the possibility of even a small outbreak inside of a a clubhouse as well as playing in the heat which in Phoenix is going to be a hundred a hundred ten degrees during the summer you're going to need a bigger roster and that's something that I think Major League Baseball is willing to get on board with and certainly the players are going to want so the may return date would depend on a number of concerns being addressed some officials believe a June opening day could be more realistic according to sources also from the baseball world hall Famer al que line has died the Tigers great played all twenty two years of his career in Detroit became well Adam silver commissioner on Twitter on Monday sort of first week first two weeks we were looking at more specific scenarios in terms of if we start this day what will that mean for the regular season when when the playoffs begin when would they conclude and what again what I've learned over the last few weeks is that we just had too little information to make those sort of print production start I will say though that as I look out into the summer there does come a point at which we would start impacting next season now we even there I think a few weeks ago nobody thought we were talking about even a potential impact on next season independent of what we might choose to do to finish our regular season and playoffs I think there's there's no doubt at this point as a country we're following the right course but again what I'm learning just as we began this interview by saying look how little we knew on March eleventh and twelfth in terms of where we are today what some of the models were wildly off you know even in early March when what was happening in China and Europe was widely known there still weren't widespread predictions that we find ourselves in place we are today and so but it doesn't actually there for me things will be worse a month from now but what I've learned from that is again not to try to make predictions and that to be true to the data we know our priorities in terms of health and safety but entering those things in where we'd be in may Mr Adam silver who's also talking about the viability of testing is what we heard same concerns from baseball in order to make a return you have to have more testing available the NBA's but exploring the viability of rapid blood testing devices similar to the ones that folks use for diabetes and get results in minutes as opposed to days and that could enable sports like the NBA to map out a plan to return NBA officials along with the Players Association about assessing the viability of that ESPN's Baxter Holmes in an ideal world and it's obviously after government approval of public health agencies they could envision a scenario in which you can line up various players essential team staff members and in an ideal world of everybody tested and potentially try to create a safe environment now there's a lot of hurdles but their very first major critical thing that has to happen is a rapid response testing is currently with the the NBA and the NBA players you you're looking at there also centered obviously the fact that testing nationwide remains a problem and so they don't want to jump the line so to speak I understand there's a lot of healthcare workers and other people out there that do that right now more than the NBA does then there's the NBA outlining the draft process "If someone gets sick at that point what doctors and public health officials have told Major League Baseball on the players is that you do not necessarily have to shut down if we have the testing if we can contain this if the entire room has not been infected well we're going to have much bigger rosters and that is a big part of this whole plan because Scott when you take into account the possibility of even a small outbreak inside of a a clubhouse as well as playing in the heat which in Phoenix is going to be a hundred a hundred ten degrees during the summer you're going to need a bigger roster and that's something that I think Major League Baseball is willing to get on board with and certainly the players are going to want so the may return date would depend on a number of concerns being addressed some officials believe a June opening date could be more realistic according to sources also from the baseball world hall of Famer al que line has died the Tigers great played able to return there are a lot of questions there as well Adam silver the commissioner on Twitter on Monday for the first week first two weeks we were looking at more specific scenarios in terms of if we start this day what will that mean for the regular season when when the playoffs begin when would they conclude and again what I've learned over the last few weeks is that we just have too little information to make those sort of projections start I will say though that as I look out into the summer there does come a point at which we would start impacting next season now we even there I think a few weeks ago nobody thought we were talking about even a potential impact on next season independent of what we might choose to do to finish our regular season and playoffs I think there's there's no doubt at this point as a country we're following the right course but again what I'm learning just as we begin this interview by saying look how little we knew on March eleventh and twelfth in terms of where we are today must some of the models were wildly off you know even in early March when what was happening in China and Europe was widely known there still weren't widespread predictions that we find ourselves in place we are today and so it doesn't actually there for me things will be worse a month from now what I've learned from that is again not to try to make predictions and that to be true to the data we know our priorities in terms of health and safety but in fact he knows things in where we'd be in may Mr Adam silver who's also talking about the viability of testing is what we heard same concerns from baseball in order to make a return you have to have more testing available the NBA's but exploring the viability of rapid blood testing devices similar to the ones that shoes for diabetes get results in minutes as opposed to days and that could enable sports like the NBA to map out a plan to return NBA officials along with the Players Association of assessing the viability of that ESPN's Baxter Holmes in an ideal world and it's obviously after government approval of public health agencies they could envision a scenario in which you could line up various has to happen is a rapid response testing is currently with the the NBA and the NBA players you're looking at they're also sensitive obviously the fact that testing nationwide remains a problem and so "Like ages ago at this point but it's only been a week since the NBA turned off the lights and went on what it initially turned a hiatus right now all everything's up in the air Mr Adam silver speaking Wednesday with our Rachel Nichols if you did actually we start the season in your mind is that regular season games first would you go straight into the playoffs what would that look like as we're talking about games that might not restart until July and August Rachel I I I I honestly don't know just because I don't have a good enough sense of how long a period this is gonna be as I said I mean even the fact that we were using the word hiatus just a week ago and that for the implication was a short amount of time I I think I said last Thursday not less than thirty days just to give some guidance to our teams and players but at this point I really don't know do you have a feeling as we sit here what percentage you know I'd like the NBA season will continue versus get canceled R. I don't I mean I I certainly I I I'm optimistic by nature and I want to believe that we're going to be able to salvage at least some portion of this season hi again I'd say you know we've done new and and and creative things in the past we experimented with this year's all star game with a unique ending you know we've talked about playing tournaments for the for you know going into the playoffs you know there may be other things we can do with the format I know I've heard from a lot of our players I mean if it's only been it's actually been less than a week they're going stir crazy they want to play their key players as you know I mean unlike a lot of us in a position we can just go back to what we were doing but every player I mean is this is fighting you know that is something that's unwinnable unless the aging process so it's you know it's a lost year or lost portion of the season their careers is very different than other people so you know we're we're gonna try every by every means we can to play basketball again but you know I I I'd say that the safety and health of our players is first and and our fans which is why I don't want to speculate more and that I mean that will be the condition upon which we can play when public health officials give us the okay even mentions experimentation with the NBA calendar different proposals people around you have had could this inadvertently lead to you guys reshaping the NBA calendar you talk about a mid season break were inadvertently getting a mid season break their vin owners who have asked to shift the scheduled to start on Christmas day could we see this epidemic shift the NBA calendar permanently possibly though those are things we're always talking about whether their executives in New York and your company S. P. N. or Warner media you know together with our regional sports networks I mean I will say you know what what the conventional television calendar has changed so much since certainly since I I got into this business you know prime time means something very different than it used to other people in essence Kerry televisions around with them in their pockets you know that the summer is viewed differently than it was historically from a television standpoint so you know regardless of whether we have been going through all this it's something that the the office together with our teams has been spending a lot of time on we and we have a lot of our team owners who are technologists media mavens by background and it's so it's something that committees of of of owners and league officials have been working on a lot specially over the past year so Adam silver not sure about that at this point either we are at a point where NBA officials can brainstorm but it's still that point where you can't really eliminate any of the ideas that you came up during that brainstorming session ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski I think really the the challenge that is in front of not only the NBA but but this country this is a complicated this is gonna be a complicated process there are no easy answers right now there are no clear answers and I think Adam silver reflects that in his conversation with with Rachel that listened they are looking at every possible scenario to try to restart and and and the word he used in a salvage a season and that's probably what it's going to be at the end but you know I think the one thing that that that the league is United on owners the legal office Players Association is finding a way to be able to crown a champion this season and not lose the rest of the year you mentioned it before in here and they're like sort of a United Africa how much of a United effort is this between the league office and the owners and the players to get misty isn't back on track well the call in right now I think the there's a spirit of cooperation that everybody's in it together the challenge is going to be as they get further into the spring and and maybe early summer that you know different agendas and this is where I think Adam silver's no one of these challenges is going to be whether it's big market owners were small market owners and players association there are going to be agendas that always rise up the challenge is going to be you know to keep everyone United on that one goal of what is best for the league Rachel Nichols mentioning Wednesday the NBA is keeping an eye on leagues overseas some of whom are starting to call players back bay of course shut down much earlier SportsCenter all night ESPN radio football the old adages you don't want to be the guy who follows the guy but somebody's gonna be handed the keys to the offense in New England ESPN patriots reporter Mike Reiss that rates will add a third quarterback at some point because they only have two on their roster right now.

"Christensen so is that a lot of coaches help him through that but remember this is going to be a new system for Tom Brady and it's also going to be an adjustment for the coaching staff to make sure it marries up well and that corona virus pandemic that we are looking at we don't know when that windows will open up where they can really put their heads together and figure out how this is going to look for them in the twenty twenty season Brady will be playing for Bruce Arians after twenty years with bill Belichick straight talk wireless everything for less only at Walmart SportsCenter all night ESPN radio Brady of course not the only quarterback who's on the move this week Philip rivers teddy Bridgewater Marcus Mariota and now Nick Foles holes is heading to Chicago the bears pulling off a trade with Jacksonville Chicago gives up a compensatory fourth round pick in return for getting Nick Foles so what happens now in Chicago here's our Mike Tannenbaum and feel gates there's a restart because in in our last show we had a debate about whether we think this is Nick Foles job immediately or whether we think this is competition to pursue the starting job and he and Mitch will battle out during offseason workouts if we have them and then eventually during training camp if that goes on as scheduled I look at it like this the bears were settling if they still think they stood Pat with Mitch Trubisky yep the rosters to well fortified in too many spots and there were too many obvious concerns and trade you're right Ryan pace may forever have to live with the idea that he took Mitch Trubisky time slots ahead of Patrick Mahomes and deshaun Watson we get and traded up one of the first round pick to move up one slot to get him I'm just gonna put but it's over and done with that happen two thousand and seventeen fun ways to win football games and salvage I mean it and we talk about this their last show again the like you know Matt Ryan pays to be feeling the heat a little bit right now right he knows he's got to win this year and this division is not a cake walk you've got a good Vikings team made the playoffs last year an excellent Packers team in the eighth and is typically game last year this is not an all in move but this is a movie you have to make to put yourself back in the mix to be competitive and allow yourself to playing January football Soldier Field again they had to make so had to make a move at the trade you said what is it on the play calling which basically was a three year starter they had one winning season when I was at the top of two years ago were playing against him we want him to throw the ball down the field to the left he couldn't do that he he was thirtieth in the league in average yards per attempt that's a critical statistic that compresses the field and the other thing about Ryan pace the fields point which is your locker room keeps your general manager there is a check and balance they have a championship defense to Ryan pace's credit he could walk into that locker so he felt we could go win with Mitch Trubisky after we have three years of a sample set now you walk and say Hey this guy's won a Super Bowl we have a real chance now it injects energy into that whole program yeah all has three years left on the contract with twenty one million guaranteed the falls also has the ability now to avoid the deal after either of the first two years in Chicago depending on his performance sports center all night ESPN radio the NBA was quick to react last week when one of its players tested positive for coronavirus association shutting things down virtually everybody else followed suit now the NBA's facing some backlash for the number of players being tested at least eight teams has offered testing that's had four test positive thunder play the jazz on March eleventh officials in OKC saying thunder players and staff for all tested all negative Lakers tested as well he was being tested by private clinics health officials though it asked public clinics to limit testing to people with serious symptoms now private clinics don't have the same type of restrictions on them but they are being encouraged to limit testing to those with the most severe symptoms thus the backlash commissioner Adam silver I I understand from a public health standpoint why some people reacted the way they did but I'd say from an MBA standpoint we were we were following directives of course first to shut down given the circumstances that silver was presented with how about the other end of the spectrum circumstances to come out of this we spoke with our Rachel Nichols earlier on Wednesday I'm not gonna ask you to predict the future on the next six months but what criteria are you going to be using to decide when and if you can resume what is the point where you're going to feel okay we can actually talk about resuming well city your point about not predicting the future I I have certainly learned sort of in this job and in this process that when people do pretend they can predict the future they're generally wrong and I say look no further than the fact that certainly two weeks ago and even a week ago people are saying very different things and they're saying today and so of course one of things that were very focused on police officers gather with their teams is what are the conditions we would need to restart and up and I'd say I'm looking at three different things here one is of course when can we restart and operate as we've known it nineteen thousand fans and buildings and sort of that's one set of criteria then option two is how would we restrictions should we consider restarting without fans and more without me because personally if you had a group of players and staff around them and you can test them and you can follow some protocol doctors health officials may say it's safe to play so that's sort of second set of circumstances and then the third option that we're looking at now and I would say all suggestions welcome is that as a sort of beginning this interview I'd mention the impact to me on the national psyche of having no sports programming on television and one of things we've been talking about are there conditions in which a group of players could compete you know and maybe it's for a giant fundraiser or just for the collective good of the people that you take as a subset of players and is there a protocol in which they can be tested and quarantine during I or isolated in some way and then they compete compete compete against each other just because again people are stuck at home and I think they need a diversion they need to be entertained and and I just add to that point one of thanks for thoughts I've heard from you know several of our teams and something I've been thinking about a lot is you know six that we were we were the first to Charly down what way can we be a first mover to help restart the economy because I again I would just out is when you think about public health of course shutting down the economy it I'm not criticizing the fact that we're doing right now we're I'm following whatever the directives are but there's no doubt that shutting down the economy is it a public health matters well I mean just in the case of the NBA when you include all our day of game workers in arenas just the MBA accounts for roughly fifty five thousand jobs and so it's like I think we all have to be thinking collectively what the right balances and I and I know of course is the obligation of government officials when will it be okay to sort of come back out of our homes in states it's time to re engage with each other and as I said when I look at the options maybe we can do this incrementally the first step is in games with you know thousands of people in the areas but maybe it's just games you know something I've always said you know ninety nine percent of people only consume the MBA through some sort of sort of media platform I mean it's only a tiny percentage of our fans actually get to see see our games arena so those I can see those fans who you know watch on television or whatever device they have our fans Justin thing many people are in the arena and maybe even through new kinds of technology there's ways that fans can be virtual that they can react to place on the floor and making noise in the arena I don't you know that sometimes out of even at the worst crisis comes opportunity and one thing I'll say about the United States and maybe it as we've watched this unfold around the world that were incredible country and some of the the the greatest invention some of the best innovation some of the best minds in this country and I think what I'm sure is people are sitting home but still working they're thinking of these various things like I played so how can we restart the economy and what role can the NBA play Mr Adam silver looking at either playoff format exhibition games for charity and trying to get folks back in the stands and and players back on the court the NFL gear is open what a change for Tom Brady that's exports are on I did not think this was the coin first nation. Yeah. You don't wanna poke the bear you there play did not to you guys in two thousand sixteen. How you know. There you go. Miss smiles, Fred van, please, where a protective mouthguard after chipping eight to in the last game, Channing stood the Toronto Maple leaf signed van bleed. What happened last game? He was so stoic. Just let that blood go down his face. He didn't Flynn. What was that the game hockey team hair Chan I know that? Hockey. Do death tough to get it in a face. I thought he broke his nose. I talked to the game. He was really angry. No one brought him that tooth. That was because he felt like that, too. Been very back. And instead, he's going to have a lot of dental work seven stitches and came back in and all he was doing was hurrying the medical team. Being I gotta get back out. I gotta get back. It's a lot of blood. A lot of blood on his face to front tooth. This back to to make Canada yesterday. Worry about ROY won the Canadian opening Termine, and he is no full. He pulled out a Kyle Larry jersey is celebrated good for. Sports. Yes. That's a good show. Gone. Where's he from he's Irish Irish similar? Similar Rory mcilroy said nothing like he seems Canadian. I mean that's close. Was formerly Irish ovulation in Canada. It's like America and England. And several other countries miss decisions, remember a few years ago when LeBron Draymond got into a little beef during the finals. We'll today's the first free. And since you both were there we thought we would get your memories. What were you thinking Channing Frye, as this was going down? I don't think you really want this, first of all to. Thought, oh. In the five hole. Never could never thought. Oh man he probably got get kicked out. I think that was that was that was it that great defense that I'm playing over there in porn on Harrison Barnes like, like, in the moment. No one noticed. See me on the court. No. The moment knowing notice it's time to introduce another jump franchise. I am so proud of producer. Kate, all our crew back in Los Angeles. Yes, the phenomenon this season, we like to call load management, Leonard absolutely been these star of load management this season. Now back at the draft lottery. I asked Mr Adam silver, whether this was going to lead to a whole spate a player s take a listen. No. I don't think other players are going to want to copy Kobe because remember he missed almost the entire last season. So I've you that very differently. That's not rest load management. That's recovery. He was coming off, you know, very serious, again, almost full season injuries. So that's something separately. But in terms of me two game season. I think there's nothing magical about that number. So little context here, he was answering a question about I said, look, there have been calls for shortening the season Leonard basically shortened his own regular season, he later called the regular season games practices. And then he told me during these finals. Hey, without that load management I wouldn't be playing in these finals. So that's what is asking Commissioner silver about, but you guys agree with him that it's not gonna lead other players to Commissioner silver as on top of it was coming off of a huge injury last year, and their team is capable of letting him sit down and rest..

"The NBA van warriors investor. Mark Stevens for one season, less find him five hundred thousand dollars for shoving Kyle Lowry Wednesday night, seasons was jetty saying, what I did was wrong. And there's no excuse for it, Mr. Lowery deserves better. And I have reached out today in an attempt to apologize to recommend to Bowery said, Stephen should no longer be part of the league yesterday. Mr Adam silver asked by Stevens did not get a lifetime ban. Take a listen to his explanation. It's not a science terms of make nieces. We felt that even contrite. Mr Stevens wise the fact that he was extraordinarily apologetic. And the fact that he had no blemishes on. Prior involvement with the NBA that. A one year ban seemed appropriate together find. What's your take this penalty enough? No. But I will commend Commissioner civil who I believe, is the best Commissioner going right now scale that they made a decision, very quick, although I don't agree with it, because it had been the NFL they'd still be investigating coming up with punishment somewhere twenty twenty before we got a decision. Correct. Give them ask you this. If this was a regular fan, and he was sitting in one of those seats and he showed the player would he be banned for one year from the arena or would he receive a lifetime ban? We assumed yesterday lifetime because we thought he was just some fans skip. I don't like that because he's four for his right to sit courtside. And to appear at a warriors game hairs, fine of five hundred thousand dollars. Skip that zero point two percent of his network. Let me put this in context for people at home. If you have a hundred thousand dollars network. Which is the fifty percentile. That's a twenty two dollar fine. They find in twenty two dollars. You did some home saying this that second level would run our win to the stand, it cost him five million. Stephen Jackson, one point seven straight calls, Jamaica meal, O'neil four million. Get outta mean believe he should have to divest. He shares in the team, hive of much own, but you can't come back to a war game even when they went to the chaser. So if you want to own a fifty million dollar home that you can never go inside. You can just drive by what do you think he's going to do skill? He will eventually sale because you like, although I got home that I can't even go inside of you part, owner of a team that you can't even go watch him play that should be punishment before I turn overuse, killed mess. Just say for the sake of argument, because we know another guy that sit courtside, and he has some antics that you and I've been talking about over the last week. Let's say for the sake of argument drink. The polls in player he shows it what would be draped funds for shoving an opposing player. There would probably be back storing context, they probably be close friends, and it would be like a playful shove because it seems like he's friends with all the stars. But but again. I don't know what's different feels different. There's no relationship. We knew this guy. And he thinks, you know, sometimes if you like if he had dove on the him, even though you assume the assumption of the risk sit courtside basketball benching the head, yeah. Players might dive into your lap. You assuming that risk it like okay, you know, trying to get him. Okay. I did it. But to go out of his way to shove, the man. No, no, no. No, no, no. I'm not saying he has to divest its shares. I'm just saying you can no longer what you've ordered, you're right. To be able to watch the warriors play in person. So I must admit after I've slept on this. I'm on your side. After I read late last night, what Kyle Lowry said that he said to him, heatedly, which is go, f- yourself. You don't go f- yourself. What? To what you weren't even harm's way you. And it's bad enough that you cross the line with a big shove. But then you're yelling at him repeatedly. Go f yourself. What, what does that mean? You've lost it, man. You've gone over the edge right? Yes. Absolutely..

You take a look at how we handled himself he had every right to push his man back, perhaps lug him but he controlled himself conducted himself, the way a professional supposed to should be applauded at the same time in my opinion, the owners should be forced to sell his pot. Let's not call them apart and investor. That's minimizing. Here's a part of the Golden State Warriors. Right. That's how introduces himself at the restaurant at the golf club Weber at the end of the day does not about who he is. A man is about the actions that took place last night. Absolutely using the word investor using because that is specifically what the team did release. But yes, he is a minority owner use though, the finest enough five hundred thousand the one year not enough. You want him to sell his stake. Well, if he was a regular fan, and he did this. We ban them for life. You look at the the Utah Jazz fan that was disrespectful, Russell Westbrook. He paid a price for you. Maybe one day you revisit it, but the actions that took place last night. And I would understand it a little bit more every fell on MRs Stevens. He did not. He had nothing to do with the situation, I applaud calorie, and the way handle himself. Mark Jackson speaking with sage Steele on sportscenter for lowering he's not a good look for the ownership group that they have, and I know Joe lick those guys are great gobs ownership that they had. No, there on blue God, but a guy like that show his true class, and he shouldn't be a part of our league Stevens releasing a statement saying, quote, I take full responsibility for my actions last night at the NBA finals and embarrassed by what transpired what I did was wrong. "Off two in a row Lamont from Arkansas up on CBS sports radio. Thank you for taking my call. My pleasure. Yes, sir. A few days ago. Mr Adam silver, the NBA Commissioner and the NBA they fly rivers. Don't they Lamont? Sal is going in and out. So I'm going to put them on hold maybe just quickly get to a better spot, and we can punch them back up, but Lamont was referring to something that we talked about at length yesterday. Doc Rivers on ESPN interview said that Kawhi Leonard reminded him of Michael. Join like no one else since Michael Jordan. He said LeBron is gray. Kobe was great. But the game was almost Jordan, like and they took exception to it. And when I say, they I mean, the NBA office and find Doc Rivers and call the tampering now we had Frank. Do we have on yesterday? How it back from Bleacher report. And he pointed out that I didn't know this that they had already warned the clippers about tampering with quiet Leonard that Leonard Frank the president, or whatever title is works hand in hand with Doc Rivers had gone to raptor games, specifically when they weren't playing the clippers and let it be known and made sure that he sent load everybody and. Got the word out there that he was in the house for the game now he could use it as an accused. Hey, I'm just here scouting, we'll the clippers play the raptors twice a year and a cliff wouldn't need to make it to an NBA final. And the raptors would as shown up at regular season games. And it was a little off putting so the league had already put a warning out there to the clippers be careful what you do here, we're watching you. We're not gonna hit you in any fine here, but it's quite unusual for a team president to show up at road games of other teams that they not playing within the next week or so I got in purposes so that added to Doc Rivers said, the NBA thought it was enough to Meredith suspension, Lamontagne hops back on with us. I thought that it was a little short. I thought it was Doc Rivers just doing what doc does. He's a former broadcaster an announcer..
