The state park there has just been recognized by an international society that fights light pollution. Here's correspondent tom. Ponzi prime male reservoir state park joins idaho's craters of the moon national monument as the only officially designated international dark skies parks in the north west in the application for recognition oregon state. Park rangers noted the exceptional starving in the protected valley around prime ville reservoir. They said they hoped the designation as dark sky park will help alert. The cities of central oregon that their fast growth needs to be managed to avoid degrading an internationally recognised quality of night sky separately last year. The international dark sky association honored the sun river development south of been for measures. It took limit like pollution. Washington state has no such places on the official list. "1923. I'm always called before it was called the Mount. A common man is common. Man. I had no idea. So I did the research and found out that the mountain, currently known as Mount Rainier in the state of Washington, was originally called. Nicola was called Tahoma. That's the weird thing. So Cathy Renna occur at Brown and Haley told me earlier this week. There were many variations on the name, she said. There was a tow home of our Tacoma bar. They also even had a version they shipped to Seattle called the Mount Rainier Bar. And in terms of the controversy over the name Brown and Haley's pretty agnostic about whether it should be called Mount Rainier, the actual mountain now, not the bar. Now there's three flavors. There's original, which is Vanilla Cherry, which was originally called a cherry bounce but became a mountain far back in the twenties and then peanut butter, which is the junior member of the trio, which only dates 1972. They've had some limit edition flavors in the past, like raspberry and coconut, that kind of thing. There's been a battle raging on social media over the last couple days about which flavor is best. Cathy Renna curses. Spokane is the biggest market for mountain bars in eastern Washington. Folks prefer the cherry so they're not exactly mountain bar originalists. But the progress is here in western Washington prefer the peanut butter by far over the other one. So there's ah, not only a regional candy bar, but it has geographic differences. There was one more flavor they used to sell. It was just at the at the factory on Lee. It was chocolate with no feeling. Some kind of byproduct and when he first fired off the production line, and they don't make those anymore, unfortunately, But it's a great classic Northwest Bar. And if you want to give out some big candy bars for Halloween this year, it's a perfect sort of Northwest friendly choice. There you go. And it's a much better name than the byproduct bar. Yeah, we have some photos of the old packaging at my northwestern Felix Pennell. All his features at my northwest dot complex feelings. Thanks, Dave. Felix scores, wrote and produced last night's spooky radio play a walk in the dark, which we presented live via Zoom, since, Of course, we can't all gather to do a theatrical performance in person. And Chris Alan was the chief protagonist of the show. The rest of us were his supporting cast, including Aaron Granillo, who is ah is in the studio there. Hey, Dave. Good. You recovered Good. So what Everybody is clamoring to know is what's the deal with your the microphone you use at your house? Because here just speak to us from just just do it like a 123 count for us. 123 check check. 123. Yeah. Okay. Here's what he sounded like last night. This is K. I A or O Seattle, the friendly station. At 7 P.m. of the West Coast, and I'm Blake Waters. Do you take some kind of chemical preparation before you go into your Blake waters persona? Something like that? No. This microphone was provided to me by our engineers here, and apparently there There are a few settings on it, which I was not aware of. So during the rehearsal earlier this week, I guess I headed on that setting and I get I get text from people like Wow. Your voice is so deep and I'm okay. Sure, putting on a little bit of an acting voice, but On Then Felix takes a video of it and posted on Twitter and I listened back and I'm like, what is that? You may hear it know It sounds normal to me in my headphones. You were using performance enhancers for your voice believe I didn't even know that was possible. It's radio. I would have done that to the strange thing is our engineering department is handing out trick microphone. I know that's what I want to get to the bottom of it. No Well, you were spectacular. You the whole thing was ah, lot of fun, And you should listen to it. If you haven't already. Let's see. Do I have some samples here? Yes, I do. Here's what Colleen sounded like doing running around in this blackout for crying out loud and Why you drinking in this dump That doesn't sound like 1938 and Ah, Here's Miley, who's also in the studio. Listen to Miley in her in her as an actor, honey, what's wrong and I never went anywhere. Jack. I've been waiting right here. Oh, I can feel the tension. You think you feel the attention? She's my wife? Or so it would seem never listen to another. Of course, there were the sound effects for the dark and foggy this time what it had gotten around the village and other fishermen work on shore on on the dock. Word had gotten around the village about what about the fog or sounds like a Coke bottle. But You. Don't you do what you have to do. It's a pandemic. After all, By way of shadows of Frank Ssh, IRS and accent he was Yeah. Couldn't couldn't tell. It is 8 40. What's your traffic it? "Injure summited Mount Rainier it was for the climb to fight cancer and just a week and a half later marina herself was diagnosed with breast cancer and you are climbing this you were doing it for your sister you were doing it for your mother in law but you said are you even took on that challenge you sensed something was going on with your body I dead I suspected something was up right before I left for Mount Rainier and so I took those suspicions I went to my doctor and I was scheduled for a regular mammogram at the end of July and the doctor said you know what let's just move that up and I said okay so I went they moved it up I don't know three weeks or something and it was that mammogram that Satan you need to come back for a biopsy so I after climbing Mount Rainier went in for the biopsy and then it was confirmed that I had breast cancer so while I was climbing Mount Rainier was on my mind but it hadn't been confirmed yet the thing is is these days there's a ninety percent beyond that survival rate so he yea yea and and so we were feeling very positive about this but that doesn't mean here in the C. word doesn't just are you to your core it does I mean there's no there's no doubt about that you know you can meet anybody in your life who says that they have cancer that they have you know somebody in the you know even your own family members so for example my sister has non Hodgkin lymphoma which by the way just a week ago was pronounced in remission and she was one of the people I was climbing for Mount Rainier so when I heard that news I could not believe it but what was interesting about that is she was hesitant to tell you yes when she went into remission water at my sister was afraid to tell me she was in remission because she didn't want her good news to overshadow the fact that I was newly diagnosed with breast cancer in dealing with that mental and you know psychological Nino aspect and and I told her you know I don't be afraid to give me this kind of news you can't even know how excited I am for you eight years in her battle and she's finally in remission and I told her that that gives me hope and positivity and to have one less person in my family to worry about with cancer because my mother in law has cancer and so now my husband you know he's supporting my sister who is now in remission you supporting his mother any supporting me and it's it's pretty overwhelming but now we're getting through it the odds are that there are a number of people listening right now number of women who have been diagnosed the same way what is it what from inside your or the your your environment gives you the strength to do that and I can observe this marina you're taking us on is that a positive I can win this attitude I think a lot of things I think it's kind of boy it's where you are mentally anyway if you feel like you know what I've been given this the I've been given this hand I've been dealt this hand you have two choices you either deal with it or you don't any and so I chose to deal with it secondly the support around me has been phenomenal I mean we're talking from starting from my family and moving out to our our good friends are best friends and then my coworkers I can't even tell you guys you know my coworkers I told pretty quickly and I just I am so grateful for the support that we have here you guys don't even know what it means sorry we do yeah you know it was interesting berated though because I know you've probably got to go through the chemotherapy yes I do I double a double man yes I mean that's it it wasn't the breast you were worried about it was that gorgeous red hair I know I don't mind getting you know getting but getting a brand new veneer if you don't have that I can't think of a a proper way to say it on the radio well what yeah my hair is gonna I have a head full of red curly hair of anybody's ever seen me and it will go away with chemotherapy now I have been told it'll come back so hopefully it well but I'll get to live for a long day for about you know few months without here that's going to be a very bizarre sort of existence for me and at least as promised to shave her head to it in support right yes I would it's real quick you know you mention the mammogram and I just want to back up a little bit and I'll be really quick about it over do that makes me think that only so the one thing as one message I've given to every woman on that I've encountered so far is the mammogram is what sealed the deal it was like that's what found it and I just can't stress enough that you've got to go get a mammogram if you're of age to do it something else we should very very very spotlight in the whole thing is the stand for the cure tomorrow yes if you would like to contribute and help in any way it's very simple to calmer news dot com come out and see if the lakes ma'am yeah should be fine merino you're amazing and we'll follow this and and hopefully you'll be open about this when I say thank you thank you guys thank you five forty now bad como an update on sports countdown is on the start of husky football season on come off into the ram size "We are not alone and i remember my mother bringing me that book home dawn when i was a young person and i read it in a was fascinated by the subject matter of course where do we stand right now with most scientists in terms of the possibility of alien life out there well you know it until you have final information it's hard to know but here's what i can tell you what we do know is there are billion planets out there around many stars we know enough to know that our planets orbiting stars in such a way that the temperature is very similar to what we have here on earth given the amount of both planets up there and the fact that we have here on earth if team and of unconscionable that there wouldn't be additional alien life out there somewhere why does why does most stories of aliens all we seem to revolve around a little lewdly lien man little grace for example my gosh that's a long story and while you're here for two hours we got well it wasn't always that way um originally i mean when when we go back in and see how this has unfolded be factually stories one is the story that you will hear from people who were real serious you who does who will talk about stories that have been um recorded back in medieval times earlier but that's not how most people get their uh their image o of aliens their image comes of course from the media and the media i'm gets its ideas from a reports that people making to feed one another and so i think while they're certainly uh stories from from a grace boroughs in early trading in the turn of the 20th century i think the with we're the grace came from that story actually started in june nineteen forty seven now in june of thinking fortyseven no aliens were seen what was seen was um you are what seem to be flying saucers near mount rainier in washington dc now and we can go over that story it's actually a fascinating story.

"There was a vile hut breath in his face as life drained away he opened his eyes one final time bill brinkley had been deeply depressed his friend said depressed and terrified for a very long time brinkley had always been a writer before the books he worked for the washington post in 1949 he wrote the strangest story of his career at it was all true it was on the front page under the headline priest freeze mount rainier boy reported held in devils grip it was the most famous exorcist some case in american history he could never shake the things he heard and saw then there was no distance and time and space great enough to set him free that's when the nightmares began and november 22nd 1993 is when they would end but that story about the excesses of a 14yearold boy in a tranquil enclave of suburban washington that story would not die it would haunt that boy forever he would stick in the imagination of one georgetown students who would later transform it into a horrifying bestselling novel and the film based on that novel would terrify generations of moviegoers convince that you or i at any time could be possessed by a demon and it all began with a boy known as robby july 2017 hello is this robbie or rob are you the rob whose extra schism in 1949 was the basis for the movie the exorcist my name is some mark ramsey and i'm i'm i'm creating a a sevenpart podcast on the making of the movie the exorcist in your story is the foundation for that movie so i'd i'd really love to to talk with you for just a few minutes about your experience is back in 1949 would would would that be okay.

"In canada scientists are now saying that the recent quakes swarm there's actually um a quake swarm that happened at mount rainier this happened i believe yesterday or day before yesterday mount rainier is having a swarm of earthquakes doubt scientists who say that does not necessarily mean that it's about to erupt however similar quakes happened during the summer of 1979 remember would they paul was on the program he mentioned that after the eclipse in the summer of seventy nine there were earthquakes and then later in may of 1980 st helens blue they're saying well i measured five i heard five you're they now up to twenty they're saying now twenty small quakes have struck under mount rainier which is an active volcano that's happened in the past week and scientists are saying that is higher than normal now ranieri has experienced similar upticks in the past two years and more sustained episodes of seismicity in the year two thousand nine it's not uncommon tavares quakes like this around of all keno but while the world is on edge i think it's a nerve big that this is happening would be as test ready to go i think it's weird that have happening and i know that everyone worries about yellowstone the osce also called there is going to far but no look the yellowstone choldera actually is the world's dormant super volcano and so they say dorma because it doesn't blow for so many thousands of years but that they get it might because we are quakes are happening there but we as well you know you know the eruption you'll story about yellowstone is that they'll be interruption and they would cause the entire country actually the country on the eastern seaboard turned into clear winter but mount rainier actually has a better chance of blowing its top before yellowstone rainier last you rub did back in the 19th century but far more powerful eruptions should play some five thousand years earlier and it hasn't done anything major since when scientists know it's building it's building into something big if it wasn't near a huge city i mean this would still be a problem i mean aircraft.
