And now a Montgomery county city is considering whether to extend that right to residents as young as 16. We get jobs in this city. We live in the city. We drive on Rockville roads and we deserve the right to vote for decisions that are made in our city. That was Brooke Duncan a high school sophomore speaking to Rockville's mayor and city council. Others are not keen on the idea of pointing to a lack of maturity of many high schoolers. If you think age 16 is okay, why not consider 15? Young adults under 18 are responsibility of parents. And lack of real world understanding. I do think it's important to have enough life experience in order to read something on a referendum and be able to make an informed choice, no vote has been scheduled. Luke Luger WTO news. Newsradio 1000 FM your station information sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino. Thank you for joining us I'm Rick Van Size Bill O 'Neill at the editors desk and here are the headlines smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to impact the East Coast at about 11 o 'clock our time New York City listed as having the worst air quality in the world according to one survey and search crews on Mount Rainier have recovered the remains of a man matching description of an 80 year old solo climber reported missing last week does any of Spokane embarked on a solo climb of mountain the mountain the body found last night in a crevasse lives and homes in Ukraine are threatened not only by war but by now by that destroyed dam let's get an update on where things stand ABC's Tom Sufi Burridge is in Ukraine and spoke with Brad milky I think the point here is this is not just a normal flood right we cover floods all around the world and they are terrible when they happen for the people affected but this is a war ravaged area these are people that have lived on the front line and the important is thing that this river the Dnieper is effectively the front line the Russians control the eastern bank down in the south and Ukrainians the hold the western bank and so these people have been living through misery I mean her son the city on the western bank is regularly shelled it's a very dangerous place to get into and now you know all of their homes are flooded and on on top of this not only is that there's a sort of humanitarian catastrophe playing out but there is also an logical catastrophe which is being warned about well and the first thing that went through my mind is you got a nuclear power plant where you're at in zapparegia apparently that's not as high on a list of concerns nuclear authorities say that there's no immediate risk they're keeping an eye on it um how did this happen and was this intentional so it happened overnight Monday into Tuesday we you know know there were explosions or at least a explosion on the dam here's a bit of context the president Zelensky warned last year on at least two occasions that Russia was planning that Russia was planning to blow the dam up like any other major incident in this war each side is blaming each other the other bit of context is that the area where the dam sits on that part of the Dnipro river is controlled by Russian forces they control that area and the hydroelectric plant before it was all flooded we're doing the best we can to assess those reports and we are working with Ukrainians to gather more information but we cannot say conclusively what happened at this point at the time of talking the White House is not making its mind up about who's responsible exactly what happened it's basically saying it's reviewing the facts because wait the implications are either what that Russia did this to inflict pain upon Ukraine but this is where their troops are controlling and now that that land is is harder to control or it's Ukraine somehow sneaking in and doing this to like take back its land but what at the expense Ukrainians you think so neither option looks great now the other bit of context and it's important is that this the timing of this right this is coming at a moment when the Ukrainian offensive has been ramping up we've been at we've literally drove down to the south to Zaporizhir like just before I spoke to you and we've been in the east and in the east Ukraine is making gains like the Ukrainians are on the offensive they are taking territory around that city city of Bakhmoud which people might have heard about brutal battles inside the city now Ukraine is making gains around the city the Ukrainians are definitely looking at some point to go on the offensive in the south and you know the run -up to this counter offensive we've had indications from US

Now a new bill aims to stop police from conducting searches during traffic stops based solely on the smell of weed. Supporters and opponents of the bill spoke at a Senate committee hearing in Annapolis this week. Democratic senator Jill Carter of Baltimore is sponsoring the bill, which was introduced after mixed rulings on the issue for Maryland's high courts. Marilyn court decisions on this issue have been confusing and inconsistent, but I believe that it's our responsibility to give guidance to our courts. This is a matter of public policy. Opponents to the bill include Baltimore county state's attorney, Scott shellenberger. Marilyn has for decades allowed the courts to set the standards of what constitutes probable cause for a search. "Police chief Robert Conti says moms and dads play a huge role. Parents, you have to be parents and that is important. That's an important piece that we don't talk a lot about. Chief Conti says his police force is reactionary. They show up after the crime happens. He says parents can really keep their kids safe, but they need help. I'm not suggesting that the answer to that is law enforcement, but really kind of a whole community approach to addressing some of the issues that we see with our young people who are showing up with trauma who are showing up with impacts from the pandemic. "Have been in relationships or have a challenging relationship, listen to this closely and tell me which one you fall into. And by the way, I've been teaching this about 20 years now. And every time I do it, somebody says, wow, man, never thought about that. All relationships begin with two independent individuals. If you remain too independent, you're never going to connect and there's going to be an issue. Have you been in a relationship where you have been so independently driven on your own that you haven't allowed the other person to be that way? Or more likely, you were independently driven. The other person that you're dating or in business with or whatever is independently driven. And you don't like it. Get under your skin, right? Can't deal with it. The relationship will not last. I see these all the time. And I can usually see them way in advance and when I'm working with coaching clients, I can hear when they're in one. Strong, independently minded people insisting upon doing things their way all the time. And that's cool. If you want to, you're here to save yourself in this world, but it's not the way to make you happy. So that's first. Two independent individuals. Every relationship starts. But eventually, as you begin to get to know each other, things change a bit. Some of the relationships become co dependent. It develops a kind of relationship that means losing your individuality. Weren't you attracted to that individual independent personality when you first met this person? Are you decided to deal with this person? And instead, what's happened is you didn't go for the independent independent be bashing into each other all the time. You decided to become co dependent. And suddenly you can't do anything without the other person. And that's depending on who you are. I think it's very debilitating. We have to do things on our own. At the same time, we do want some help from time to time. Joy and our very, very good at that, especially walk into a restaurant that's busy and self serve, and you have to find your own tables. You got the move guys. If you've been together a while, you walk in there, okay, I know what you want. I'm gonna place your order. You get a table. See, that's good stuff. It's fine to be codependent like that. But to be completely that way? Come here a second. I talked to lots of married couples. So intertwining what they do, neither one has power anymore. At all, they don't have any independence left. So what is the relationship we need to be in? With all relationships that make it work. And I will tell you that if I don't have this, I don't do it. I just know it's not going to work. So we're going to combine our skills, where to go by their passions. We're going to combine our identities. In the best way, we're going to create what we call an interdependent relationship. Now, we're together. We're working together. We count each other. We got each other's back. We got our own thing going on, but at the end of the day, we are dependent on each other. We just kind of merge back and forth. Each walking and talking being our own strong individual person. That's a cool way to be. And yes, sometimes it drives me crazy because joy is very, very independent, very strong, and I've had to sit her down and have her talking with her. And she ended up having to talk with me. It worked out. We just had a conversation, right? It's sometimes difficult. When you bring a relationship together with two strong people, but man, you can be interdependent. And it's cool stuff. All right, so we've got coming up tomorrow. It's got a vacation coming up next week. Don't worry, I'll be here pre recording in advance. I'll be all Mount Rainier and you'll have a podcast. No, I'm not doing a podcast from Mount Rainier. I don't do that. I take a vacation when I take a vacation, I leave everything on, I just pre record we're done. But tomorrow, when I get back to record the next show, I'm gonna find it on my thing here. Oh, a stress free weekly productivity. That's tomorrow shogun. Talk about some focus on Thursday and Friday show how to be your own best cheerleader. Something I came up with a long time ago and if you will do this on Friday, I'm going to give you a secret to pump yourself up every single time you need a boost, okay? That's kind of what I do over here. We give a boost, right? Have a great day. Come on back tomorrow. I'll see you right here. On the daily boost.

"Much would we all love to have that. I'm going to say an external source come in person and testify to some greatness us that we don't see we all want to do that and yet you're saying lift yourself up and that one is the one that hits me if most of us are not going to have that person who comes along and encourages us or testifies some greatness. We're not gonna take some tests. It's going to say oh my gosh. You're one of those brilliant people on the planet. That changes are outlook on ourselves. It is up to us. And that feels untenable. I think we have again. We're back to that self confidence that self self encouragement. That feels i mean. How do you direct somebody to do that. Because we have no tangible vehicle for that we're waiting for someone or something to come along and tell us something good about ourselves so that we can believe it. Yeah and this is the work of becoming more self sufficient and letting people off the hook and terms of you know if i need you kevin to be a certain way for me to be okay. I am setting myself up for failure for heartbreak. I'm setting you up for some failure and heartbreak and we do that especially to our significant others all the time we look to someone else to do for us what we're unable or unwilling to ourselves and then we wonder why there's so much resentment and so many unhealthy dynamic set up and co-dependency and the good news is when you become self defense self sufficient and are able to lift yourself up you're going to attract better results and you're going to also let other people be who they need to be not put so much pressure and stress whether it's co workers or family members or significant others and i think this is about really creating a new story or mantra for ourselves instead of i need this person to behave this certain way some. Okay it's who do. I need to be to attract the results. I want or who i want and need to be in this relationship. And i really showing up as a vehicle for this person's transformation or enlightenment and again it's work nobody. We were just like the easy thing like well. Why why can't. I just stayed kevin. And he fulfils all my needs. Why can't i just be kevin's sister. Mother daughter whomever and have kevin fulfill all my needs. And you don't you don't want that because what happens. What happens if something happens to kevin. i mean what. I'm sorry. I'm using you and your name as an example but this is just really about again. Cultivating the inner characteristics that we can bring out because we all have felt this when we looked to someone else for validation again. We're insatiable it's never gonna be enough and so this is really getting comfortable with what is enough is two hundred pairs of shoes. Enough is two million dollars. A year enough is three compliments every hour enough. I mean we all need to get a little bit of a grip here and you you hit on something. I actually pulled it out of the book where you talked about romantic relationships but we could say i'm going to say i'm going to extrapolate it to any deep relationship intimate relationship close relationship whatnot that we look to that other person and i think you actually pull the quote out the jerry maguire quote of you complete me which i really appreciate the book or the movie i saw that you had david meltzer on your show as i did as well and some things that he said i'll never forget. I own that movie really appreciate that movie. Hate that part. Because our i regret that part i would say because that is the mentality that i took into my marriage candidly and it was that you complete me. It was this to become one. And all this good stuff that i personally misinterpreted and translated wrong and it wasn't till so much later i thought so. My single friends are less than their uncompleted. Not complete as they are because they haven't met that person to complete them. It makes no sense to me. Just tangibly that. I need someone else. My like my some of my dear friends who have no kids. So i have kids to me. That was by proxy. That's family and fullness so they're not complete by not having kids well that doesn't make any sense and it just violated. You know so many of these. I'm going to say these ways that i translated my life based on my upbringing church you know so many different things that i was exposed to but if we take that and go. Gosh that's doesn't it makes no sense. I am to be whole incomplete. Now is fair to say because i was playing with this this morning. Kate is it fair to say okay. They don't complete me. they may enhance me. Yeah okay i think. Consider considering that you're with an equal partner or someone that you're you're with someone who is compatible you're with someone who sees you respects you and all those things and vice versa and that you actually wanted children that you have. I think sometimes sadly even children are status symbols and aren't properly cared for. That's a whole other topic and conversation. But in terms of the completeness as i like to say. I am a complete person. And i would like to share my completeness with another complete person. I don't want to be involved with someone who hasn't done the work and is not complete in many ways because again it's not an equal partnership you talked about money in value. That's like you know someone paying five dollars for a ferrari. It's not an equal exchange. So i think it's really doing the work that we need to do. So that you can show up as the dream partner for your dream partner client. Once i said who wanted the dream partner and i said would your dream partner want you as you are right now and that was not for me to answer and the person said no and so then. It's going back to the drawing board a bit and working on ourselves. I think the best work we do for relationships is often when we're not in one when we're really spending the time working on ourselves so that when you meet that right person you don't sabotage it and you are able to to maintain it a loving healthy way. I probably do a whole show just on that. I'm not gonna continue down. I actually look from my office. I can see it's a crisis. Pregnancy center that my dear friends wife works at in the stories that come from that are so often. Strike me as yet kids. Well in this case it's teen girls trying to fill these voids with somebody else and how tragic it is for all of us. But again i go back. And i think that's how i. Viewed i literally viewed marriage that way that we come together to complete each other not as whole people. I hope people here that maybe we should do another show just on that. I got a question for you though. And this is actually out of chapter nine exercise nine and your book which you have titled rock the freedom lifestyle but piece in there that i wanna pull out that i want you to explain you. Say letting go of resistance to. What is good for you on the anybody with look at that face got. I don't do that. i'm i'm trying to get taken attract. What i what is good for me. What do you mean letting go. What am i resisting. That's good for me. While i think sometimes we resist for in my case. I'll speak personally. We resist supports or people doing things for us and the name of an independent. And i've got this. And i think for a lot of us. It feels uncomfortable to receive. So that's an instance their claim that one right. And that's that's good for us. But i think we speaking to the less than we think we're less than are lacking in some way that we need help are that we need support which we all do by the way and we resist. Maybe a good cry is what is great for you. You resist it because of some belief you have about what it means for you to cry. And so and then that ties into stretching your comfort zone for you having a good cry letting it all hang out. Maybe you start on the bike ride. I don't know about you but sometimes especially where you live and you're part of the country. I sit nature. Sometimes i look at the mountains. And i just in complete awe. I mean i've had a moment. I wrote a poem sitting in. It's in the book to mount rainier outside of seattle in the in the snow. And i just thought this is so magnificent. It touched my soul sacred and hole in..
