"And Lexus vehicles including older vehicles from as far back as the two thousand thirteen model year and the more than one million vehicles that announced in January either they know something that they put in that was a just a known faulty part they got in trouble for it or something like that because this is one of my soapbox items I just think that it's it's under on there they're not listed there there's I think there's too many right I just think that fuel pumps have been failing for years they go bad yeah they do but in our own shop I can't tell you the last time I bought a Toyota fuel pump and I've been I've been it's been seven years let me continue now that I look down and see this and you said that owners have complained of rough engine running engine not starting in loss of power while driving at low speeds Toyota said the reports have occurred more commonly in areas of the southern U. S. with warmer climates so that might explain your lack of seeing their wrestling there was one recalling a fuel pump one time that we had talked about in that particular recall I don't know which one it was rough but remember had a the the housing itself was cracking yeah on top of the pump and then they created a basically a cavitation situation because it was letting air into the tank and it was leading fumes out to me that's a little different but I don't know not maybe I should settle down Tyler Moore why they're doing this but I just there's certain things that vehicles they're just gonna break well over time the U. S. national highway traffic safety administration says they're aware of two thousand five hundred seventy one warranty claims so far and sixty six field report they're gonna have ten million people that think it's a claim with the fuel pump was bad now with the warranty claims were talking to a three year thirty six in general a lot of cars if we're going back to twenty thirteen those are well out of warranty so they'll they're aware that many under warranty does that mean there's a single one out of I don't know that's what I think that if they're doing that it must mean that Toyota is aware of something right it's something they do they know about that now I always via and I take the exact opposite tact issue because I think what they're doing that they must know now that something they did and they've been waiting and hoping to get away with it I mean I had my default it will add fuel pumps going on our cars in the seventies and the car would stop and fuel run on the ground in a we've seen cars in the seventies with those external mounted pumps on the V. eight they would just pour fuel and sometimes people say oh yeah I got to crank a little longer so that puddle underneath that's just gas since it's not hers was normal I don't know that it was right but we we survive again now you sound like an eighty year old man on the porch usually we would burn to the ground but yeah they do that today's back let's go to Chadron Nebraska and talk to Dave Dave you're on the under the hood show what can we do for you I've got a two thousand ten Subaru and a nineteen eighty eight Dodge power wagon and I'm just wondering what is the best type of oil full synthetic synthetic blend just high mileage oil to use on these cars well you know what you've got to fairly different animals they're fairly the comparison I was like well how opposite could you get completely on the NZX the spectrum there isn't did you say nineteen eighty eight power wagon I've got a nineteen eighty eight Dodge power wagon with fifty six thousand miles on it that's going to be a pretty neat truck it is good Ole pal what color is it white what motor does it have oh boy three fifty six or something like that that's probably a three sixty five point nine leader thirty six sixty yeah most likely the power point well the old one I'm a little hesitant to start putting fully synthetic oil in that if it hasn't had it before because I had the chance for leaks due to the seals that are in there and a lot of the now you can use the the synthetic ones because everything you're gonna buy now is going to be a synthetic blend if it's your standard off the shelf oil where it's a five W. thirty things like that some of the ten thirties I think are still just come straight conventional mon sun synthetic it all on the street weights like a thirty weight things are but what should be putting in there if you go down to your local box store and say just change while with with the five thirty it's going to be as a synthetic blend but not so much as the ones that specifically say it does have different additives in there you know they've got different contents depending on whatever what's high mileage oil is a it got this like Valvoline high mileage oil is specially formulated with the chemical package that they put in in the in the types of base material that they use I mean I'm far from an oil expert but they they basically engineer it knowing that they want to give more protection to some of the ceiling surfaces they want to have the the chemical package B. such that there may be a little more intrusion they would expect of some possible carbon so they're gonna build up some of the chemicals to to fight some of that better you know it's just gonna be formulated stronger because of the things that happen in a high mileage engine my first reaction when I heard about that when they start making and it's been probably ten years ago one eighty it's been out there for a while was they're just making a thicker oil well no it's not a different viscosity it's it's a different package that they put in it that's formulated to just be a a better partner to open engine that's wearing and so what about a Subaru though this twenty ten Subaru so that is definitely one you could run fully synthetic or synthetic blend in don't house yet on what the manufacturer says we've got I've got it just a hundred and two thousand miles with that I just had a heart transplant in that but nuke Dr bell and all pro is in in in system that is good because you would have done that it would no matter what oil you put in it when that when that broke so so when I say that you could put whatever you know put that in there depending on the manufacturer says some cars the manufacturer specifies only a fully synthetic oil so you've got to go with what they say but if you've got a car the just specifies in was certain API great you can go with a better oil in there and it's a twenty ten you should be should be fine run a synthetic blend in that in that car your comparisons were so different the old three sixty is good old V. eight large pores you know you could probably I'm not telling you to do this but you can get away with running different a lot of different levels of that is but the two thousand ten Subaru is gonna be much more specific with the.

"Around us which may be three fifty fifty a year or so Two Thousand Nineteen Right around there. Okay do medical when we had no no. We don't do any medical gone. There is a a B. LS stationed in our firehouse is rob local. Bls Rescue Agency got you Rescue stuff but as far as the bls medical all stuff we stay right out of that. Yeah okay that's good. Some people may not agree with that but at least yeah yet not Not My thing but hey you say with the typical volunteer ear firehouse Were pretty small. We may be have a You know thirty active on the roster and of course you know you get at the same ten to fifteen that you see on a daily basis and then you get the the normal you know fairweather firemen as I like to call him. I'm four but you know what they still serve. They still serve value. They have purpose. Yeah absolutely they can do their thing. And then we've got the Yeah the older crowd that You know the the drivers in the Senior men if you will Yup Yup sounds like pretty close to to any other volunteer house around the culture. Seems like it's definitely the same and and I think that that's what makes volunteer fire department. Strong is having having your old guys on still and you get them and yes That's great that's good. What are you guys? have for equipment apparatus. Because I'm an apparatus not I know you are so this is where things get weird. Obviously I worked for Pierce I however I ride a houseful seagraves. I'll know how does that work there stay. All you know ball busting that that goes goes around. But you know it's the same as a whole Chevy Ford Dawn. Whatever thin right right you know? We've got a seventy five foot. Stick two thousand gallon engine because we don't have a lot of those nice little red things to grow from the ground. Well you know what's funny is is ours green here in New York so their camouflage yeah figure that one else and then we've got a five hundred gallon squad truck you know. That's what we run out to A pretty major You know you know highway that runs through town or recalls got all the tools and stuff on it. Yeah Yeah I think that's that's becoming a more common thing I think especially with working with Pearson. I'm sure you see a lot of that. The rescue pumper concept zipped yes young an actual. We ended up doing. Maybe two thousand fifteen is we had a Kozak back. Three Thousand Gallon Mack tanker and a An older quality engine when you stole both of those rose and we combine into one pumper tanker if you will even though we call it an engine two thousand gallon two thousand Jeep Cam. And that's yeah. That's that's pretty much what we did to recently. Retired are eighty-three American France atop mount pump. Right they only made need the only made like in the original American France Company only made I want to say fifty top mount pumps they call them the command console and this has got the century three series cab on it and from what. I've been what I've read and researched. They've only made twenty five of those. Yeah so we held onto that. It's in the Back Bay and we use it for on. Yeah and I I wish we'd never gotten rid of our. Our quality at thing was was awesome. Now it's in a city called Orange Trim but he knows about that down here and they are busy. They're big pay department and I think they've picked it up as a spare okay and I think it's probably seen seen more work in the five years. It's been there than in the twenty years that we had it so you know it's it's out there during it's funny. It's funny to see where they end up. Because with when we got our pumper tanker truck replaced was a ninety one Mac Central States tank truck and that we sold that to a local a local guy here in town that has dump trucks and he took the body off of it shortened the frame put a dumped body on it and we see that thing every single you painted black and he put on the top of the of the dump body in the front and says tank four and quotation marks kind escalade so it matches his other trucks. But you can tell which one was our old tanker you can tell it to our. Our tanker went to a town not too far from here so we see it. You know at at any any big fires or you know tanker Task Force your water shuttles and then actually our old engine came into the shop. I work at not too long ago. Laugh for service and I walked right by and then I had to pause for a second at a turn around wait a second. I know that trump. Yeah.

There's a spray of concepts try to admit them all together in the first a little bit here if you would please okay well let's start with a definition of surveillance capitalism because that will give us a framework mark to to do the knitting that we need to do so surveillance capitalism I argue in many ways diverges from the history of market capitalism diverges in some ways that are not well recognized and and in pretty crazy but there is a significant way in which surveillance capitalism emulates the old ooh age old pattern of how capitalism has evolved so let's talk about that for a moment capitalism typically evolves by taking things that live outside the marketplace non-market things or activities bringing them into the market get turning them into what we call commodities things that can be sold and purchased so famously industrial capitalism claimed nature for the market dynamic and that means bringing it into the marketplace turning it into raw materials that can be sold and purchased real estate land surveillance capitalism follows this pattern but with a dark and unexpected twist what it does is to unilaterally claim private human experience for the market dynamic it claims names private human experience as a free source of raw material to be translated into behavioral data. Those data then are combined with advanced computational capabilities machine learning and and they spit out products as all machines do but in this case their products are analyses as of behavioral data specifically geared to predict our future behavior what we will do now how soon and later and these prediction products are then sold into a new kind of marketplace this is a marketplace that trades AIDS exclusively in human futures trades exclusively in predictions of our future behavior so so maybe for some of our listeners what I've just described will sound a little bit science fiction any the fact is what I've just described bribed perfectly corresponds to what we have come to think of as online targeted advertising and in fact is many people know online targeted advertising invented at Google so a surveillance capitalism and it was back in in two thousand two thousand one in the teeth of financial emergency as a result of the dot com bust that Google's founders founders decided that if they were going to save their company they had to get serious about advertising they were under so much pressure they're very swanky winky venture capitalist investors were threatening to pull out everything they had worked for was was on the line and before for this they had really had pretty negative view of advertising but if they were going to start to make some money and not be imploded by this financial emergency it was going to be advertising what they discovered was that of course they were getting behavioral data as has people searched and browsed online mostly they were using those data to improve the search engine and to create products like translation but there was extra data that was produced that they didn't need for service improvement those data back at that time they were called digital exhaust great name waste material and you know who's going to criticize anybody for Finding a way to who recycle waste material ecological exactly so there has been a few folks in the company who had been experimenting with these leftover data they were haphazardly stored in data logs on servers but the folks that had been playing around with this this had come to understand that these leftover data had tremendous predictive value so now the founders decided we're going to turn to these his leftover data and instead of calling them leftover data Harry I call them behavioral surplus it was a surplus because it it was more than they needed to do their business well so they they turned to now this this behavioral surplus that was sitting around and began again to examine it for its predictive qualities and what happened was when they combine this behavioral surplus with their already even back in the early two thousands Google was way ahead of the pack for its computational sophistication even back then Larry Page one of the founders referred to their machines as are you know are an artificial intelligence so so now you've got got this behavioral surplus which is full of the kind of things that some people now would call it Meta data not so much the key word that you search for perhaps but What time of day and how long did you spend I and and how many words did you type in an order to finally get to the thing that that satisfy I your your question or what you were looking for later in the case of facebook we see behavioral surplus coming not just from what we disclose to facebook and it's worth saying this because a lot of folks are confused about this when facebook Luke says well we'll let you see the data that we have on you what they what they mean there is that will let you see the data that you gave us in other words the information that you typed in at some point so right the information euro where you gave to us exactly what the where the behavioral surplus comes in Harry is it's not just what you post it's how you post if you're making dinner plans with your friends for the evening do you say I'll see you at seven forty-five or do you say I'll see you later Do you have run on sentences or lease bullet points if you're posting pictures what's the level of saturation of those photos. Those winds of colors right do you use exclamation points in the United States these kinds of hidden behavioral signals actually can be used to predict your personality. What you're feeling feeling your sexual orientation your political orientation there's wounds full of research at this point the takes these tiny hiney behavioral signals that I call behavioral surplus and now can use them to predict almost anything about you? You have no idea you're disclosing these are used to construct personality profiles in our normal understanding banning that would be what they're what they're putting together right personality profiles emotional cycles get into a little bit more more of this when we start talking about another part of your question behavioral modification but there's almost nothing that researchers haven't tried to use these data to predict about you so what what Google discovered was that by using these behavioral surplus doing the computations nations on on these kinds of data they could come up with predictions of a very specific future behavior at that point back back in this or or originating context that was the click through rate so easy to just think of it as a click through rate you know big deal but what that click through rate is a prediction of a fragment of human behavior that click through rate was sold to a marketplace of business customers who WanNa know what we're GonNa do now those were advertisers and they wanted to know where we're going to click but the point is those were the first Marquette's gets established exclusively to sell predictions of our futures this was institutionalized that Google it made a ton hon of money because now they sold advertisers these predictions instead of instead of letting advertisers key words and where you're GonNa Place your ads you you you bet on these predictions and you're GonNa make a lot of money we're not GonNa let you into the black box that produces these predictions you buy them you'll make a lot of money money and that's exactly what happened so between two thousand one this thing I got going in two thousand four when Google went public black and it's in its IPO documents its initial public offering documents the world I got a glimpse what had been going on Google it became clear that just in those few years Harry Google's revenues had increased by three thousand five hundred ninety percent on the strength of this logic that I've just described here what of course that means that these guys set the bar for every investor in Silicon Valley who wants to invest in a company that's going to create value the old fashioned way when you can invest in a company that's GonNa make money by by stealing our private experience with methods and mechanisms.

be like the start of and and and and Lugo and that's it let's go to our Hector once in high tech the on the fan the owner is Sir I know but I'm all right so you I apologize good just to me in a few minutes ago I cable I was sold out I do not doubt but let me ask you some before I made by covered what's been the theme here tonight my son said like I don't wanna say buying then but I we started to enjoy this they do results on that last night I mean fourteen a fifteen is nothing to sneeze at but last year I mean last night was that that was that yeah you could do a documentary on a game it because soul there was so many story lines okay as a nice you know the nice it is trying to come back with the vin and not getting ahead of themselves and then and then in the fourth then in the bottom of the ninety school for that's that's great Tony it was amazing it was so much fun to be in there this is what I've been asking for a line that we have the best of my games going to this there was so much fun but I got as many it was also a little frustrating like I told you the night I'm funny well and I'm not a the guest services that the cold or you are and I spent today I didn't go to much actually most of the baby about because of this back in the back that's all good but we'll get a lot of what I'm doing the game from the back you know what when it when well known in the home than they were in love five we a lot of them were upset and and even a lot of them around the area yeah because America's own growth I've known right some say he decided to leave I'm a guy let's relax what don't tune we have nine notes left his game though all we should be going hello you know I get it maybe we should in the past well soon but it's not over I don't know what it is I've so much because of the day on Tuesday that we love this week something special I'm not even going to be a was serving nothing like that is it B. L. we we they have they have our attentions put it that way absolutely they definitely have blood they don't really have much but I just wanted to enjoy it I even like I said I will we we were standing in the back the whole time and at the bottom of the ninth inning with anybody start to look at you know what I'm going to sit down on that it's about this even to give every inch Hey look at me like a mission I'm like yeah let them know what your needs but we already know there was a story but I'm going down there's people come without the need to make a joke and I'm like your mother moved to come back listening to the lab he could be spread I'm pretty sure that when we had the radio on his car he was a big big started I should have listened to that guy but he stated so I didn't hold by Philip but does this have for living donors I didn't know as best friends hard to be positive well let's just try to stay positive hello to the negativity right away every time you make it out you will what we have for the second third nobody out no we didn't score let you know in the first ever was what happening a lot but we weren't getting the extra because of dragon online we've been doing that.
