"News here on 7 20. W g. N Hard to stormy afternoon. Is it over? We'll ask Albert Ramon is the chief meteorologist for news Nation. Albert, what the heck is going on out there? My goodness. Why do we have those big storms rolling through earlier this afternoon? I was just looking at sympathy. Storm reports. We had 68 mile per hour wind gusts in golf ball size Hail McHenry County, and then it lots of steam as it moved into Chicago and then down towards the south. I'm looking at reports south of Joliet, 50 to 60 mile per hour gusts in utility poles snapped just aggressive storms This afternoon. I live I should say I grew up in the right along the kinky will county line there. And I was getting my brother was sending me some videos of it of what the clouds looked like as they came in, but looks like they got sucked pretty hard. Yes, And that same store system and move through there just in the last hour is stretched over Kinky County and kind of searches off towards the east central areas of Newton in Jasper County, and that's moving to the shop East mainly wind concerned, but that again that's moving out of the area. There's one more broken band of showers that Northern Cook County near the Mount Prospect area and stretches into parts of Canada. Kalb that activity a little bit of lightning some gusty winds, but it's non severe. Because our atmosphere is pretty much stabilized for the most part ahead of the storm system this afternoon. We hit 88 today and you felt the humidity this morning. Those were all the ingredients ahead of this front. That allows to these big thunderstorms to pop on up and produce not just these intense winds that hail and also, uh, at least a brief touched another tornado in southwest Kindle County. That happened around three p.m.. To store spotters reported just a brief tornado touchdown. No damage from it. But you know the afternoon was going to ask Albert right, so then we do have do we consider that tend to confirmed tornado in Kendall County. Yes. So since they saw it, touch the ground, and they at least saw a little bit of debris briefly. It's confirmed tornado. It sounds like it was just kind of an open farmland. So no damage. At least I haven't seen any reports of damage due to that brief touchdown, so it wouldn't get rated E s zero or anything like that. It would just be some storm slider saw it saw some debris kicked up. So there you go completely. Okay. And then it seemed like, Well, I I don't know. You tell me, but I live then from the kinky key will county line out of up now during the Cook and Lake.

"I'm ready, Morgan. I'm a little nervous What you're throwing at me today, but I'm ready. Here we go. Alright. 1st 1st 1 up Mount Prospect Ernie is there Here's the question. And IRA is being willed to me. If I inherit it before the age of 59 a half can I have it sent directly to my own IRA? What are the tax implications to piggyback that question? Thank you for that question, Ernie. And so you're inheriting an I r a and no, You cannot have it sent directly to your existing IRA. This is a different kind of an IRA. It's called an inherited IRA and starting in 2019 IRAs that are inherited by a non spousal beneficiary. Are no longer eligible for what we used to enjoy called the stretch, meaning that you could stretch out that IRA and just take small distributions for your whole life. Now, thanks to this a care act. You have to take all of that money out in a maximum of 10 years and pay all the taxes within that 10 year time frame, So the rules have changed and you have to be compliant. So you don't get penalized and you stay, uh, on the straight and narrow. Good question, Ernie. Another good answer from our coach Steve Schyman. Alright, let's see if we can stop him from LaGrange. Mabel is there here's the question. I'm retiring at 62. But my pension won't start until I'm 65. I prefer to wait and start my social security when I'm older, But should I think about starting it earlier to avoid having to pull so much from other investments until my pension kicks in. Mabel. Good question, and, you know, sometimes we recommend waiting later for Social Security. But since you're going to be retiring, and since you don't have enough to retire on And this isn't a line in the sand. But just listening to you, Mabel. I'm thinking in your case, it's better to start the Social security early and let those investments keep on growing and not take them to live on. Use the government Social Security money to live, and so your investment accounts can grow up. Instead of being reduced from the withdrawals, you're taking deliver question and answer portion of the program. You're listening to protecting your assets in the Chicago market again. Steve Simon is your host. I'm Morgan Patrick. Consumer Advocate questions are going to lead to even more questions. What's going on in and around your retirement portfolio? Your retirement planning process. There's going to be an opportunity to get on the calendar with Steve Schyman. It will say financial, no cost or obligation that's coming up here in a little bit. We've carved out three more spots for radio listeners only for this portion of the programs to listen up for that. All right. Two questions down. Let's go to question Number three. Roselle is the location norm is there Here's the question. I'm the guy who never opens his investment account statements because I'm scared to look and because I don't really know what I'm looking at. Anyway. How do you help a guy like me? Well, Norm. Thank you for that question. And you know you are a very good candidate to have to work with an advisor who becomes your trusted advisor..

"The segments that I really enjoy doing on this radio show is where we talk to people who are out in their neighborhoods. Working it making a difference being politically active. One of those people is Julie Caravan Mortensen from Elk Grove Village, and she joins us now to talk about what's going on out there. Hey, Julie, how are you? Fine. How are you? Thank you so much for having the end. I really appreciate that. Um, yesterday we're going to do a rarely and most For protecting the vote. Protecting our vote. Um, there's so much going on that we have to stop Father. Depression of the vote. If we don't do that, and we don't get before the People Act passed. We don't get our agenda, Matt. So we have to. You know, we have to show people that were we care were involved, and we've got to do some things. Who is sponsoring the rally, Um, indivisible out, well, village and the surrounding community and then we're also working with young activist group I natural. If you ever heard of Kaylin and He did some, um Activists events with Asian, um Sounds like somebody I need to interview. Yeah, No, we're she. She's uh, eight years in star collagen toast to middle of September. But she's been asking young woman and we've met some really great young people who are are getting involved, and that's what we need. So and we're I'm going to try to have some of the state senators and representatives and commissioner Morris and I believe it will be attending I I think representative Christian Morphy will be with us. Um, but it doesn't look like Senator Dover. No dark horse will be able to attend, But they've got a lot of a lot of things on their plate. Oh, gosh. Yes. Um Yeah, so you know, and I mean, there's just so much people have to get involved. I've got 200 cards for Virginia. Now that four or five people are help me get them males so they'll get out to vote. I mean, take every little bit helps, you know, phone calls and knocking on doors That's been heard the last couple of years or so. But I mean, you just whatever you can do. A little bits and pieces make it all work together. Tell me about the specifics of the rally. Where is it going to be? And when it's in outgrow Village, it's Saturdays from 9 to 11. If it rotary Green 1, 64, Lions Drive and Al Grove Village. It's a little hard to find. It's right behind out of high school. And if people have ever come to rainbow Falls, we're right next to Rainbow Falls. Yeah. Wow, It's always good. A lot of people a lot of people navigate by landmarks, so that's a good way to explain it we're about. It's about a a black east of Arlington Heights throwed and it's right off of alcohol Boulevard. Lot of people think that you know, with everything that's going on with the infrastructure bill and some of these others. Lot of people are giving up or maybe not giving up. Maybe that's too strong a word about the for the People Act. But let's it seems on many agendas to be taking a back seat to some of these more, perhaps easily passable things. Why do you feel it's important to focus on the for the People Act? I in order for people. Well, first off our vote. Is that right? We have a right to vote is U s citizens And when you suppress that that doesn't allow anybody to Get what they want done. We all what certain officials voted in that are going to meet agenda If we don't have that vote, and they suppress it, then we We just go back to losing our democracy and we don't want more people like Trump in there. Mhm. You know, we just test the fight. How would you describe the bulk of the community in and around Elk Grove Village? Are they moderate? Are they conservative? Are they progressive or liberal? Had built a lot of conservative, but we're changing that. We're trying to make the area blue. And there's a lot of people that are doing net in elbow Township. We have several people that have moved up into mount Prospect, and they're now on the village board. And so things and it seems in the in the township of turning blue, Um outdrove itself is probably or was very conservative. But if you go knocking and good, I'm a precinct captain going knock on doors, and there's a lot of people there that have just been afraid to come out, You know, and there there, we just have to find them and we have to get them out to vote. Mhm when I'm assuming most of your door knocking was pre covid. Correct? Yeah, when you when you do that, What kind of reception do you get? What? What are people's concerns? What are the things that they're worried about? Um, it's been so long, but they're just worried about I want to say the agenda that you know, there's so much that when Trump came in, there's, um the attitudes of people and people not being so friendly anymore. And people, um Kind of golden over the edge. Um, I think we want to just bring back some peace and how many and people getting along with each other. I That Probably about the best that I could say is because there's uh you know, we need that community and working together. What would you say? The people that you're running into the people? You're having conversations without in Elk Grove Village, Julie. What is the What is the feeling about mask mandates? What is the feeling about getting vaccinated out there? Um, we, the village actually had vaccinations, so that was set up in the community. Um, if there's a lot of people that the one with masks because they figure they've been vaccinated others that Outside vaccinated. Still don't want to live math. I say the majority of the people here want to do what's right. So be vaccinated. Be mask used to that. Remember that the kids there's so many kids that out vaccinated yet? You have to be there estimated they don't have a choice. So, um, I I think, you know, like, even with the school districts, and they're you know, they're saying we need the masks and And if they don't, then you see a half appear of a taste and then alright that case Cherries, and it was a lot of people, so I think I think, basically here we're pretty good on keeping the masks and and a lot of people have been vaccinated. I don't know if you plan this rally to be a part of this, but I know indivisible the national Notch, indivisible Chicago or Illinois or Andersonville. This is the national indivisible group. They have been planning rallies around the country for this Saturday. I guess this Saturday is is the 58th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King's I have a dream speech. And so they figured this is the great This is the day to around the country, get activists together to rally and to march in cities and to really focus on The for the People Act, because, as I'm sure, most of our listeners know the Voting Rights Act that has been the mainstay of supporting voting in this country for decades, was largely gutted by the Supreme Court. A lot of the key provisions were struck down. And as we've also talked about on this radio show state by state by state Republicans, whether they.

"We'll see If you can hit these. We're going to go to Morton Grove and Robert is there. Here's the question. What's the difference between an index fund? And an E t F Mm hmm. Good question. Robert. So an index fund. Is going to track a particular index, like the S and P 500 like the Dow Jones like the Russell 2000. Like the NASDAQ, but in ETF is going to be a themed based grouping of securities like it might be and disruptive technologies that might be in large cap small cap. Environmentally friendly, Uh, companies, So there's a lot of different sectors that the CTF can specialize in where the the index fund is really, um Just based on an index. All right, Well, you hit that curve ball. All right. So next question up for Steve Shaiman is from Niles. Chris is there and she has this for you. I'm 62 years old, not plan to keep working until my full retirement at 67. I've been divorced for many years. Someone told me that I could take my ex husband's Social security because he may considerably more money than I did. Is that true? And will he find out? Well, Chris, That's a great question. And here's the rule. It is legal to take his Social security, but you're not going to get all of it. You can get half of his Social security. If it's bigger than yours. It's a choice that you're going to be able to make. So when you look at the numbers, if you are social Security is more than half of his. You're going to want to choose yours. But if it's if half of his security is more than what you're getting go ahead and choose his All right, Steve Simon, and you're listening to protecting your assets. He's your host. I'm Morgan Patrick Consumer Advocate, and we are going over questions from the listeners. And so far, two questions, two answers. No stoppage, so we will get to question Number three Mount Prospect is the location. Jim is there, see if Jim can stop him? 61 years old never married. No kids, not bitter about it. How much retirement planning do I really need to do since I don't care if there's any money left over for anyone when I die? Well, we do me people and Jim situation and the planning is still important, Jim, because You're 61. We want to have you make sure that your life is going to work out the way that you want to being single. No kids, I'm sure you're going to want to do things like travel or maybe hobbies. And you're going to want to have the income that you want to have for as long as you live to support your lifestyle, and you're going to want to be able to spend as much as you want to to enjoy the things that you want to do. And that all comes from a plan. If you don't have a plan, then you're leaving it up to a maybe, and I don't know anybody who wants their retirement years to be a maybe. I mean, the reason you're planning you want to avoid the maybe? Yeah. You want to know how that retirement is going to go? Good question, Jim. Uh, even better answer from Steve. All right, so next question is going to go to Paul. He is in River north. And here it is. Is there a good rule of thumb for how much of my IRA should be invested in safe investments at age 60? Or is it just a matter of personal preference? Good question. Paul. Um there is a rule of thumb. It's called the Rule of 100. You're 60. If you take 100 minus 60, the rule of 100 says that 60% of your money should be safe. While 40% of your money can be at risk, and the older you get the more that number changes, like an 80 year old should have 80% of their money safe and only 20% of their money at risk. However, when you're young 20 You don't need that much safe. Most of it can be at risk because you have a long time horizon. What we want to do is make sure that we don't lose money when we're getting close to our in retirement, so that we are goals don't work out. Remember, folks questions lead to even more questions. What's going on with your retirement plan? What's going on inside your portfolio? And folks? It's okay, there's an opportunity to get on the counter with Steve Schyman. He's carved out three spots immediately following question and answer. You're going to get an opportunity. No cost no obligation for that consultation with Steve Shaman to see where you are in your retirement plan. If you need to pivot, Obviously, that will be a discussion. If you haven't started planning, folks, this is the opportunity to get going on that, indeed. So question and answers were through four of them. And so far you've hit him out of the park. Their coach, so good job. Roselle is the next location. Janez there. Here's the question. I've heard of fixed annuities and I've heard you mentioned fixed index annuities. Are they essentially the same thing? Uh, no. Jan, they're not. So they're they're the same and that they're both guaranteed never to lose money, but let's talk quickly about the differences. Fixed annuity kind of like a CD at the bank. But better because of fixed annuity is going to pay you more interest in the bank and earning more is better than earning lasts. Another thing of fixed annuity is going to do is grow the money tax deferred, and you won't pay any tax on that money until you actually start taking it out and using it. So more interest and tax deferred is a good thing. And those are the benefits of the fixed annuity..

Tell the dogs you're going to aspire. What the hell That ain't care Dog doesn't know any better if I know any better. What does the dog know? So I was talking to one of the trainers at Arlington. Did you know they have to medicate the horses because of the fireworks, and they were doing them at Arlington in the parking lot. Yeah. And the trainers were there like two in the morning. They don't want to. You can spooked those horses last year racing in Arlington so they won't have to worry about that. Right? Well, they worry about it Necessarily. So oh, really? They're still going to be racing and all the chicks ringtone. There's a chance. Really. So you're saying there's a chance their purses suck the horses suck. It is an awful awful experience. No, it is not. We were out there. It was awesome. Absolutely. You've been there this year fixed racehorses in the in America race at Arlington six horse races. Beauties. Five beauties. We had a great time. This has got to be the last year, right? Well, the Bears have to start building the new stadium. So I actually did a little recon when I was out there. So Churchill Downs owned the Hollywood Park area in L. A. And they sold to a developer that then help put a stadium in there, right. They race for three more years after the deal was announced, because it takes that long to get the property designs owning all that architecture. My plan was, the Bears have shovels in the ground at, like, six months. I guess that's not going to happen. No Wow. Six months would be January. Let's go, 12 months, Let's go. Nine months is not that question. Shovels in the ground. Come on. Not that they got to open the stadium by 2025 to keep my plan alive. You know, bears raised the the first bander have to do it feels is the m V. P The number one concern is. Where would the opposing team's right? Of course, been consulting with radio? That's true, whether thing trying to figure it out with Merck. Where are they going to do? What are you gonna do? Sure. We have nice amenities. They're rolling Meadows rich. Yeah, Yeah, we'll have to go. Exactly. Yeah. Self Rolling Meadows Ritz, the the four Seasons of shown let him sleep in a tent. But I don't care. Put him in the parking lot for all I care. Exactly. Who cares, Please. We've got some beautiful rooms here on this, where the stables used to be could put them in the best Western In Mount Prospect for all I care, right? Put him in the Red Red Roof Inn. I don't care, right. The least of my concerns is where the Packers stay or the Lions stay correct. Take that market. Take that, Uh, I was out. Just your son. How old is your son? Nine. Does he play little league? Yes. Have you ever been to this complex in wheeling? I had the big tournament I saw J. D. J. Parker play. I saw my friend George McDaniels son, Taylor. They played in the title game in the U. 11. Holy smokes. Those kids are talented. Haven't been to wheeling. We have a tournament that starts this week. I think in Glenview So I'll be close to wheeling, but I'm not really the wheeling one is all. Where's your tournament? Glenview car? I don't know. I gotta double check. I just know it's somewhere. England. What day I think we start Wednesday. I'll be there week. Alright, Mark, I'll come back as your son playing or your son. Not playing in the tournament. No, no, I'm saying I'll come by and support just saying he'll come by. Yeah, actually support the team Got support the team JD Some Parker. Very good. Parker's a sick little athlete, man. And so I went out to do you know, the whole facility is all turf. Really back it out. No kidding. This isn't wheeling, huh? It's amazing. Pretty sweet. Absolutely amazed. That good market is he talking about? We played there many times spectacular. It's good. Awesome. Yeah, it's real and it's spectacular is real. And it is suspect. Yep. We played there last night. It was all you guys had your game there too Awesome. There's all purpose facility. Yeah, absolutely. Awesome. So Anyway. Now we're hearing talk that Eddie Goldman could could be considering retirement. Wow. He's I mean, he didn't show up all offseason again. Remember, we were like, Hey, Where's Eddie? I mean, everybody kind of just thought I'd be back mandatory mini campaign isn't there? We? We talked about it a month ago like Wait a minute. Where's Eddie Goldman? Maybe he enjoys not playing football. I don't know. I guess if that's the case if you get away from it for an extended period of time, I mean playing football stuff. You know, it's not an easy game, preparing to play football. It's a big commitment even harder, right, York. You're going, said Sunday's of the fun part. It's the rest of the week. That's thanks. Once you kind of get out of that, and you get out of preparing for games and you get out of having a schedule in the off season. We take four weeks off to get healthy. Then you start getting back into the grind. Once you get out of that It's not necessarily a laugh that you just get right back into it. Maybe he's made enough. Maybe he's invested enough. Maybe he's doing something else. Maybe the game of football doesn't bring the Eddie Goldman what it was brought to him. Maybe he played so he could amass some wealth. Once your man some wealth. He wants to leave with everything intact. If you don't have it in you to give it everything you've got, you're probably better off walking away anyway, if that's if that's what you choose to do. That's what you choose to do. That's right. I mean, it kind of sucks that this is where we've gotten to and that the Bears have to deal with it now, But I think you're right. I mean, now they did miss him last year. I think so. It didn't miss any Goldman last year, and I think they assumed he'd be back this year and any better if you're hoping to get him back, boy. I don't know if it could be a negotiating ploy. Mm. I don't know. That could be one of the avenues. One of the things that you would see. Could be.

What's the latest Unfortunately, it's probably not gonna help gas prices much simply because it wasn't remember. Keep in mind. It wasn't a pricing event that is President Scott have continued to move up, but it's because the factors that have been a playful asked what 45 months Now that is an improving economy. Higher demand. You may see the national average tick back down. Keep in mind yesterday, The national average did hit that $3 mark for the first time since 2014. But all in all, a little relief nationally, maybe a little bit here in Chicago. But really, the market is going to be looking at demand numbers in the next few weeks to determine you know how much higher we go the summer? If Memorial Day is a very busy one, we could see prices continuing to move up. I knew the prices will go up before we hit the road on Memorial Day. It always does. What about people who are traveling going to the Southeast eyes? They're still a concern for a while about gas shortages there. Yeah, that there is. Some of them have worsened overnight. Even with the pipeline re open. Some have not. Um, it will take a couple of weeks to get everything back to save that lesson. 20% of outages and it may take up to three weeks for this Come to be completely behind us. And in the Chicago area here. Can you find price under three bucks a gallon anywhere? Well, if you look for the needle in the haystack, I'm seeing on the gas buddy app about five stations under that mark. They all got a hole in one in one particular area. They're actually all around. Tinley Park, Orland Park, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect and call You met City. "Kickers who are abruptly ruled out and that's exactly what happened with Zane Gonzalez yesterday. I know a lot of times people ignore their kicker spots once once, especially once by weeks have passed. They can kind of sneak up on you. If you're not playing, paying really close attention, and we got word yesterday that single, Gonzales is ruled out for the Cardinals and so go ahead. And if you raise in Gonzalez owner make sure that you check your waiver wire and pick up a kicker in his stead because he is not going to be available for the Cardinals today and again kind of a similar situation to Todd Gurley. Feel free to go ahead and release Zane Gonzalez out right? Because I don't think you need to carry two kickers. At this point. Chances are go ahead and just find somebody on your waiver wire who you can plug in because Zane Gonzalez will not be kicking for the Arizona Cardinals today. All right, 3123323776. That is how you get in here on fantasy on the fantasy football show. I'm Jeff Miller. Let's kick things off with our favorite Mike, who's in mount Prospect. Mike, You're on ESPN 1000. What's up, Bud? Well, Jeff, I need you more than ever. My friend on Monday morning for a harbor day I woke up and I said, My God, I got the Big Mac attack coming back. McCaffrey and I think that Gibson as my number two back and jazz and Taylor and what happens that drama kissing to pick up to keep my car capri in the in the minutes. Yeah, I remember my kids like the place, So I got a full PPR Have Jonathan Taylor moved up from flax all left in my RV one. Any one of these four. I've got Heinz, his partner, but he's up against The worst team of the fifth Force team against the run with Las Vegas. I got Bernard Giovani Bernard at good match up to against Dallas Eat worst. And he's at home and then I picked up two days ago, Ty Johnson, the old Detroit red wing Detroit Lions running back. I had Seattle, sir. And then when I found out before anybody else said, I did pick up DeAndre Washington at home versus Kansas City against his old team. So do you need one or two, Mike? Just one man. All right, so just one, you know, know him. Heinz. I guess it also, you kinda have to. I'm leaning the him Heinz and DeAndre Washington at MIT. I am admittedly. Ty Johnson looked good last week. But all indications are that Frank Gore should be back. Now He's going to have to Test. He's gonna He's gonna have to test it early this morning and to and to make sure that he is good. I'm sorry. It has to clear one more test for concussion protocol to ensure that he plays today, Frank or is obviously out there. That means Ty Johnson is kind of worthless. In my opinion, I would not. I would not trust using Ty Johnson. But what I'll say, is it Frank Gore is ruled out if we find out around 10 30 that Frank or is not going to, uh, you know what? I just checked my schedule to. That's a three o'clock game. That makes things a little bit trickier. So a two this point I don't think if your options are on the noon games, you can feel comfortable using Ty Johnson. I would probably use DeAndre Washington, Mike Okay. The thing is now he might think that he minds in the PPR gives you a little bit of safety. But it's the playoffs here and because of the fact that you're also tied to Jonathan Taylor, you're really limiting your upside. I think DeAndre Washington If you just look at the way Brian floors and the Dolphins have used their running backs. Pretty much all season long they have given whoever's the feature back a pretty salad roll. So I think DeAndre Washington who was a pretty good pass catcher himself. Is your best bet I'm not. I'm not too concerned about the fact that they're playing the Chiefs. The chief's give up quite a bit of yards on the ground there. 14 u S. So I think DeAndre Washington is probably your best play. If you want to play it safe, Maybe not him, Heinz and the PPR and Mike, But I would lean Washington just because you're already tied to Jonathan Taylor. But again, this is a situation to where you have to look at your upside in the playoffs, and you don't wanna completely limit yourself. But that's how we do it here on the fantasy football show on ESPN 1000. Let's try Tom, who's in Bridgeport. Good morning, Tom. Hey, Japanese, the pretty well there any understanding? Little bit a madman Patton so busy. Model jams or two already, so you need two or four, and it is standard scoring time. I like first off T Y Hilton. He's the guy who stands out to me. Believe it or not, because the last couple weeks he's finally been the guy. I think he's finally healthy. And I think Philip Rivers now has kind of gotten a little bit of connection going. I've been impressed with what I've seen from him. And so I would probably gamble with you by Hilton because of what we've seen the last couple weeks for sure. Then for me, I'm staying away from Melvin Gordon kind of needs to pop that long run to make it a day The Broncos struggle scoring touchdowns, so that limits Gordon's upside, so I'm taking him out of the mix. It comes down to Marvin Jones or Cole Beasley. And for me, I think I would use Marvin Jones. You're going to have to imagine that you could see a few scenarios here with the Lions have to throw the ball. They're gonna have to throw the ball to state. Todos stay with the Packers. And even if they fall behind that, not that is not necessarily a bad thing for Marvin Jones, so I would go ahead and use T Y. Hilton and Marvin Jones today, Tom Thank you.
