"Sort of like the optics, the narrative of this message was weird. It was like, it is what it is. There's no gift card, there's no hug, there's no, you know, like there's, well, for me, I have a building background and I don't know if this is applicable or not, but the price of a sheet apply wood went from 42 bucks to 88 bucks and that the guy's building the house is this one, hey man, whatever I quoted you on that house, go ahead and kick that up. You still want a house? I don't know if that's what's going on. But kind of is, yeah, because there was no real concession or anything. Like we said, it wasn't like, oh, but you get to spend $200 in our parts and accessories at the dealer, you know, here's a gift card. It costs them 30 cents on the dollar. You feel like you got $250 to do some free stuff. But yeah, there was none of that. And they didn't split the difference. They didn't say, listen, everything's more expensive and chip shortages or whatever. So all the orders that are here, we're going to split it with you. We're going to raise you 7 and a half percent. We're going to cover the rest, but all orders after, you know, for 2024 models, you're going to have to pay the 20% bump. They just said, everything's more expensive, or you could buy less of a thing. And I'm sure you're hearing it. I'm sure all the message boards, there's going to be pages and pages of going. We're priced out of it. Because this wasn't, you know, look, it's not like it's the price jump on the newest Ferrari went from 800,000 to 875,000, right? This is something that people were going to drive every day and use. So yeah, getting four, 5, 6 grand more. A lot of customers are priced out of the vehicle. When is the next break monetarily price wise going to be for the electric vehicle? Is there a threshold that there are battery technology? Is there something that is going to go, oh. Like the plasma TV, right? Yeah. I was thinking about, you take something like the. F one, what's its name? 93 F one. The McLaren Apple. The McLaren F one. And they go, well, when they built a McLaren F one, it took three guys three months to build the carbon fiber tub. And that got pushed along. That price gets baked into the car because it takes three guys three months to make the tub or whatever it is. Now it takes one guy half a day to make the tub, so, you know, you can get a McLaren for buck 50 or buck 75 out there. You know, you see him out there. Is there a version of that with electric cars? Is there something where we go, the technology now? We can go from 50 grand, this will bring us to the low 30s or whatever. I think you're talking about what is the next? What is the enabling technology that's going to get us to the next sort of waypoint in terms of affordability or availability of these vehicles? Yeah, Matt, sorry for cutting out. But Matt is dead nuts on with the plasma TV. I mean, you know, a 90 inch plasma was 60 grand or something at some point now. It's the Best Buy item. I think there's certainly needs to be a huge leap in sort of battery chemistry. And there's a lot of people working on it. We haven't seen at least as far as I know. We haven't seen the breakthrough moment. The closest thing I think, honestly, you can look at is what lucid's doing. That lucid air. It's our car of the year. I got a deep dive walkthrough with their chief engineer, all the nerds up there at their headquarters in Northern California. And they basically, you know, the car can do now 520 miles of range with their big battery. They've taken it's the same idea that Tesla's always had at the individual cells, essentially like laptop batteries, all lined up, awesome cooling. They're all network. They talk to each other, they can mitigate a fire if there's a fire in the cell. But they've made it everything's like smaller, lighter, more efficient. The motor and inverter packs, they used to be, you know, whatever, you know, three feet long, two and a half tall, they're now they can fit into the size of a small carry on, like a 22 inch roller board. And they're like 300% more efficient. You add that all up. I mean, it's nothing, there's no huge major leap in technology. They just made stuff smaller, lighter, more efficient, higher output, great. But combined, the thing that they told me in the projects that they're working on is turns out most people realize you don't need 520 miles range. You don't need all this. It's a little bit of a freak out on the range anxiety. We can now then sell you a car that maybe gets 250 miles range, but the pack is now a quarter of the size. And then the next generation motors even smaller. And then once you get all this lightness and small, you can unlock things are cheaper, things are lighter, then the car itself goes below that sort of magic $35,000 threshold. Maybe it becomes $30,000, and then ultimately you can sell a $25,000 battery electric vehicle that now competes with the Honda civic, a Toyota Corolla, and it can do everything you want. It's just not your super long haul vehicle. Yeah, I agree with you on the range. I plug my link in, but I get 18, 19 miles worth of range on it, but if I got 77 miles of range, I'm good. Coming to work, go home, drive out here, go do that. Then plug it in. This sort of thing of like, well, how are you gonna get to Nevada? It's like, I don't know, when is the last time you drove to Nevada? I drived in Nevada once every 11 years or something. And you could rent an SUV, if that's the case. The reality is, you know, everyone kind of talks about the high end threshold. I have range anxiety. I got to get over 300 miles. Really what you have to do is get over 50 miles. Because then you can get to work and back every single day and then pull in your garage and plug it in. Yeah, it's pretty simple. It's just when it's way under the 50, that's the problem. I think we spent an inordinate amount of time focusing on the high end. It's kind of bragging rights. You know, I can go this thing will go 477 miles on it. I need to get 50 on the low end. That's the one that will get everyone into an electric car. And you said it at the top of that, which is you just plug your car in at night. Even at 18 miles, it's recharged the next day and you're on your way. And that's something we found out when we first started sort of serious testing of these EVs, and we had a Model S for a year. Everybody freaks out. You're like, oh my God, I gotta get some topped off. I do, the thing is 265 miles of range. The first week you're charging it every day at home or you're like you're hunting for a supercharger to plug it into. By the end of the second week, you're plugging it every other night if that. End of the month, you're just, oh, yeah, I should probably plug it in once a week..

"Software driven, that they're developing. So it's Mach-E, F one 50 lightning transit EV, this is the way this is a big deal. And every manufacturer is trying to figure out how to do this because of this shift beyond electrification is so dramatic. What do you think of Ford's move? You think it's necessity or you think it's just super smart move, maybe a little bit of both? It's great. I'll tell you, they went from kind of zero to hero in now is about 24 months. I would say 18 months ago, and it really started with Jim Farley. When he came aboard as a new CEO, you started to see a lot of things happen. I think these were plans he had written out, but they started to really move on. Having going from really not having a very cohesive or comprehensive electrification plan to having arguably one of the best, or at least the clearest, because they can point to, hey, we took these brand names that you all know. You know what a Mustang is. You know what an F one 50 is. And we made them electric vehicles. Super smart. We didn't try to ram an all new vehicle down your throat, like a brand new EV that you'd never heard of. We took a brand new new. I mean, F one F series number one selling vehicle in America for like over what some of that 45 years. Totally obvious move, make it an electric pickup truck. And if you look at what they've done versus GM, which I'm still trying to wrap my head around, they just announced that Silverado EV truck. Right. But it doesn't look like it doesn't look exactly at all. So that's a very different move. And I think it's actually pretty cool looking truck. It's got that kind of avalanche. It's got the midgate system. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and it might work, but I can tell you, I think the more conservative bet is you put out a vehicle that's the same wheelbase and body style all intents and purposes if you don't get the fancy light bar across the front. If you get the Ford pro, the work truck version of it, looks like an F one 50. It's just silent. It's an interesting point. So Ford strategies basically saying F one 50 is the bestselling vehicle we have. Not to mention probably the bestselling vehicle on the planet. We want to convert F one 50 owners to EV. 'cause we have to go that way at some point. Chevy says, why don't we try a different design on the truck to see if we can get some conversion, but more new customers to the brand. I think they're trying to say, hey, maybe if you did, if you liked cyber truck or rivian or and you want to be what's cool, what's new. You'll want the new toy, right? Right. Chevy's saying, well, we want a little bit of that. This is what it feels like to me. Ford's saying, we need to convert existing customers, right? And keep sales up. Chevy's saying, we want the hot new stuff we want the new customer, maybe take a little bit of that market share. I think they both want to service both of those broad groups. They definitely don't want to tick off their existing customer base. And to be clear, we're on the coast. We're coastal elites. We are surrounded by teslas. And now lucid's in our rivian. I got three rivian's in my neighborhood. There's a big fat portion of the mostly the middle of this country that is like, guys, cool story. I don't have enough electric charging stations near me, or it gets really cold. In fact, a lot of the feedback we get on every time you run any of these stories is like, yeah, the product looks great. It looks real sexy. It's -20° out right now. And you got none of you guys were talking about how the range totally goes sideways when is that cold for that long. So there's a bunch of people that need converting. I will say that. And we didn't talk enough about what General Motors is doing. It's not just Silverado EV. General Motors, there's a lot of credit. They've been in the space. Arguably the longest, right? They were the first out with the EV1, back in like 1996. And they have a whole strategy that's bigger and as longer it was announced earlier than Ford's more recent pivot around like old TM and it starts with Hummer H one and you're going to get Cadillac lyric. Silverado is just the tip of the spear for the Chevy brand. When it comes to electrification and it will be the first of several products for them that are coming out all this altima architecture. Yes. Hello. I'm here. You're here. We didn't get into the new podcast yet. Ed low, he's got he's got a new podcast coming out. It's called the inevitable inevitable. Inevitable. Inevitable. And it's all about EVs. We're just starting to get into the EV. World, your mic is. Hi Adam, how are you? I'm good. How's traffic? Oh my God. Well, not only was I diverted, they closed the ramp so they did the diversion thing where you go on the other ramp and then you go the wrong direction and then you get off the freeway and turn around and come back, but there was a huge rack on the other side. So I got diverted and then I got pushed into this wreck. So he said he saw a little bit on the way so he came from the other direction. Coming from like Pasadena. No, no, no. I came up from the south bay, came up from Redondo Beach. Oh yeah. But there was a wreck on the one ten to the 5. Yeah, a lot of Rex and listen. I would like, I'd like to do a little more of a.

"Car cast. I'm at the mode raider deandrea. Oh man, all right, so today's gonna be an interesting day. There's a traffic issue. There's some kind of big wreck on the freeway out here and those of you listening really don't care. But it just means either no atom or late atom. We're not quite sure. He's called a few times from the car. We're going to we're going to wing it and see how it goes. But luckily, we have a guest here in the studio with us. We have Ed Lowe. Ed is the head of editorial motor trend group. How are you, Ed? I am fantastic. Thank you for having me here. I bombed Adams not here. I can do an Adam impression of the call. He's probably like, oh my God, the traffic. It's terrible. I'll be there when I can get there. Start without me. It's kind of how it went. Yeah, that's pretty much how it went. So motor trend, and you've been there for a long time. You've worn a few hats over there, your bend the boss for a while. But a lot of things have happened to MotorTrend over the years, man. I think maybe you and I bumped into each other or first met ten years ago ish, maybe out of auto show and then I think Adam came by and we did the hosted some awards for you guys, right? We were there for that. So yeah, and I know we passed each other a lot at different events and card debuts and auto show press days and but it's good to have you in the studio. But there's been a lot from source interlink to the motor trend group to the big focus on video content. Man, kind of a wild ride. Tell us a little bit about it. Yeah, it's a source internally. It's so strange. So that's the parent company that was one of the parent companies. But primary, I guess, before that. So if you want some inside baseball, I think, I don't know, I guess I don't know. We used to call it Pepsi, and then it was like Pepsi, Pepsi ten, and I guess it's now Pepsi ten discovery because before originally it's Peterson publishing. Yeah. So that was the first one. And then Pepsi starts with prime media and then E map and then source interlink and then ten was the enthusiast network. That's right. That's what we became. And then we did a joint venture. So we're now in the discovery portfolio so discovery TLC ID, and now they're doing a big merger. They're taking over Warner. So it has been crazy. So the politics side that sort of the behind the scenes side, how has it changed for us for the readers for the content, consumers, how is that sort of, how have you been able to sort of navigate the waters to keep the brands alive? No, so when I joined, and I joined back, I feel like a dinosaur now. I'm not like the old guy in the room. I just told somebody, this is so weird. But I started in 2000 and 6, 2006 at the company. I was at sport compact car editor in chief. I was working for Angus Mackenzie, the tall Australian. Yep. And he left the country years ago. Well, not that. A couple of years ago, he moved, he moved back to London where we poached him from initially. But he asked me to join motor trend staff in 2007. And I was like, I first told him, not wait, man. Why would I leave running my own team to join this kind of big dorky? You guys motor trend counts cup holders and drives minivans and stuff. But he made it very compelling case and I'm really glad I did. But yes, back then we were really still I hate to say we're still sort of pre digital. We had a website, we were growing it. We had a dedicated online editor for that. But it was still very much the mentality was print first. Stories for the magazine, and then you turn them into digital stories. And I'm happy to say, thank God, definitely in the last ten to 15 years, we have upended. We've turned it from a magazine first to a digital first media house. We focus intensely on content for motor trend dot com. And then, of course, all the Amazon River. Everything flows out of motor trend dot com. Social media. We sent out newsletters, video, our YouTube channel, everything comes out of that content. So that's probably the biggest change for us, of course, there's tons of things that have happened within the vehicle space and the way we cover them. But yeah, I mean, I'm happy to chat about any of it. How did some of the brands in the content? So source interlink, there was all the magazines, all these books. And there was a lot of publications a lot through acquisition and some sort of homegrown, and some big brands like you talked about that were sort of the crux of the company motor trend, hot rod. But sport compact was a brand. Electronics, super street, muscle Mustangs and fast forwards. There was a lot of brands. And over the years, there has been some consolidation and been some like a Mustang. A vertical online and then I'm not sure if that's still quite happening. What's going on with those? What do we have as far as the enthusiast publications versus like the new car, you know, whatever you guys are in categories in that section. That's a great question. And we actually have it basically set up that way. So we have sort of like we have our new car content, which we cover under the motor trend brand primarily. And then we have what we consider the aftermarket. And we have that divided up into two categories right now. One we call performance, and the other one is sort of trucking off road. And under the performance brands, it's led by hot rod. Basically, everything is now under the hot rod banner. All of the brands that you know, we've consolidated, we have had to shut down some of them. They just weren't sustainable businesses. And then on the truck and four by four side, it's led by four Wheeler and truck trend. Those are sort of the two main houses within the new car vertical. We also have a very strong car shopping team. So we basically are new car buyers guide. We have some car rankings, all the stuff to service. This audience, which we sort of.

"Trailer people bakari really quickly or other things in our life happened really quick but if you're buying eight two to five thousand dollars suspension setup like you gotta read the forms you gotta read twelve different posts and make sure you trust the people that wrote them right or are they saying. How detailed are they being. What's their experience before that modification. And then you have to just eventually whittle it down and choose one and you're always gonna wonder okay. Should i've got the other set instead of something else but if you're picking between two really high quality products like you said bill different. It's not a big difference and then get installed or do the installation really right and get the setup correctly you know the justice damping or the or the springs whatever And then just be you know. Hopefully you're happy with what you what you got. If you're not happy with it try to figure out. Why go can. I got maybe the springs i got are way too stiff. Maybe i should go with a lighter spring before i change the whole thing. you know. that's the problem with suspensions. There's so many pieces. Spring shock bushings and hires tires and bump stops. You can tune all that shit. So you really just do your robot i i look i and i'm as i age out of this business or into whatever doing Out of his business for those sixteen years. It's enough like i get to peak buying the curtain. And i get to see actually once in a while how these cars are developed by an oem and like man. They got like fifty dudes with like masters degrees in suspension. You go to school and get a like a master's in suspension tuning that put a million kilometers of testing into it and then they have to a third party whose job it is to destroy it and they come back into and then they released the car and then you just remove the part that like these really smart people have worked so hard on like i don't know i just like well. Look the smart. People can be smart but they can also be handed a set of priorities. Totally an easier priorities might be shifted a little bit from there. So that's where i'll give you another for instance and again it's dependent but like like my little fiesta. T. i've monitored a few things. But i was thinking lowering it just so sit better on the wheels and i remember i throw and tony dangelo and they both throw angeles crafts. And they're like we'll kick the shit out of you if you touch this perfect touch a thing. You're fucking idia because it kind of looks like a little suv now because it's on bigger wheels but a live with it. Yeah i put it on eighteen of okay and it's great. it's actually. It needed them from the factory. But like i have to do a lot of. It's just great. So yeah the the advice though. They know what they were doing. Yeah any males. Oh sorry to go back to the other page bra. There's a couple left right. We're getting these lower ones are leftover. This one's okay stay elemental garage of driven. The c. t. five v. I mean the last gen. Cps fee was the tits and nobody bought it and it was the tissa soga. It was great i did. I did such good balance. I did. I did like i did to head-to-heads with that and i did I think this is one of my proudest moments. I did this thing. It was the Nevada city hill. Climb over genius jason. The threat route three forty one. Yes sorry rewrite. Virginia city and i said what's a good time and all the dudes have done it for years. Like if you do four minutes. That's good if you can do three fifty. That's great my first practice session. I did three thirty six past. Every the friars club faster than every ferrari. I was beaten by one of the three mclaren's lined up the road. Right i run. It was It was i don't remember. I did a couple practices by three thirty six. God bless him doesn't really like american cars. I'm gonna say a little bias against them Even he was like. Oh yeah. this is really good amazing. Yeah i did at sixty three and so that would have been whatever generation the four years ago. One and like yeah. Cadillac was just better to drive. Yeah you know six hundred forty horsepower and it kicked ass sixty eight and it's a standard with the manual jana third. It's gotta be it's amazing. Yeah i can't wait to have a go go. Yeah but i can't wait. We have three left. And then we're outta here. Cameron says i'm looking for a used. Suv daily drive in toa four thousand pound trailer. Twenty ten range rover sport or e seventy bmw x. Five what's e seventy thousand dollar budget. That's like you say the second gen. I think it's a second. Genesis is so it's like right now on third gen so it's right okay so correct. Yeah so that one. yeah. I many opinions june. I don't know none don't wouldn't get those are. Those are not good tow vehicles. Yeah like again like it'll say it can tow five thousand pounds. It doesn't mean until five thousand pounds. Well all that means is it won't overheat going up a hill little slowly but might masses rear suspension. Might get completely overwhelmed thing. You're the thing you're hauling will move the tow vehicle around. They're not designed to toe. You want to get you saw. Yeah like like you. Wanna get a tr- pickup truck. If by the way for grand you can get a slightly used heavy duty vehicle. I mean they're twenty says twenty rand. You could get a pretty us like. They don't even notice they're towing. Yeah yeah like. I again like when you're i have again. I'm lucky because a motor trend. We do a lot of towing but like when the thing. You're towing moves what you're driving good usually moves it into semi trucks. It's the feeling of the jury. Yeah those are both absolutely terrible to Our d. s. has a question where the answer is wrong. Yes why doesn't portable make porsche make convertible cars fade do worshipful forcible There's they made the speedster Two years ago they make the boxer spider right now right And the speedster is one of the best cars ever made. "Gt three really after. There's just so much torque and so aggressive on a racetrack. I'm sure that gt three. Yeah yeah no magnusson is talking about this. We we agreed that on a canyon road and every day that the gt three is no longer really the answer. Because it's it's it's kind of twitchy track car and you've got a zing the fuck out of the motus I did this. Weird thing when i had not weird is the asshole but there was i was on nine mile. You know upper big. And i was about a mile from the end of the duma by me and like nine nine one. And i'm like i'm going to stop sign making a u-turn and i'm gonna catch him at ucla. We probably two hundred mile an hour speed. Differentials really dangerous. But and i caught the guy before the end of nine months. Yeah and he was. He found me like a week later. And he's like how did you do that. And i'm like the competition is a five legged man at an asking. Oh right we got some questions people and we have enough that if you have not. "Were dying like the percentages are our in our in our favor. I just don't wanna be donnie. I love donny. Great and he's he'll be fine. But but i called him an asshole to ethos but like if just every american could could go back in time and take statistics just you know the we have And i don't know if it's because of the internet are i don't i don't know why it is humans that we we've put more weight on and this is not about cova. This could be about anything sir. If we put a lot of weight on anecdote and very little weight on data and the other place. I see that manifest itself. All the time is motorcycle lane splitting motorcycle. Lane splitting is vastly safer than not having lanes one hundred percent and that's because most car on motorcycle collisions rear in they get crushed in a rear end and lane splitting eliminates them yet but people see a motorcycle going between cars. Go off god. But it's like it's not and that's actually not how people die on motorcycles. Most of the time and so that the data says that lane splitting is much safer than others even if to you. It looks sketchy. Yeah i mean matt We could do the whole show about this. But i've wasted way too much of my life reading comments. But like i'll say something nice about a camaro and everyone's like you can't see out of it and i remember rand. Paul said it best he he he he did one at Streets a willow. He went quicker than a ferrari. Four five eight. Italian in ss one elliott. And he's like. I see pretty good like nobody said on the internet. You can't see. And then people like they they What's the It would bias the confirmation so they'll go to the hop in it. They want like really adjust anything and they're trying not to be able to see. Oh can't see. I mean look i. I think the camaro doesn't have the best visibility of all cars out there. Have you ever crash one. Because you couldn't see something. No i have not. But but it's a that's a real concern. I think but there are other things that make that car really nice. That don't have anything to do with that. I think not seeing as valid criticism for certain people and if you want more visibility than okay get something else but like not fucking fast. Yeah you know what i discovered. Zac discovered last week. The feature on your instagram. Where only people you follow can comment. Oh that i was looking at so the game. You don't have to do it. Every post its channel wide right right. It's amazing i expert. Only only experts helmet. I follow too many people that work. Well i don't. I have like my my really evil commenters like one percent of like the the actual pit demons that follow up with you. You know what i'm saying. yeah. I just I just removed twitter from my phone and instagram from my phone. Yeah not because of commenters. But because i was upset at myself for taking myself out of the moment that i was in my life right enjoying i add another the other day. We went to see a concert. Had a great time with sea rise against it was fun and rather than i was in the moment most of the time but i left the moment to look at my social media. Yeah and i. And i was just i went home and i was a shamed of myself for not. That's good in the moment. And so i a couple years ago took all social media off my phone and i crept back in and i i just i just wiped it again and i think that And i pulled out some books that i bought and haven't read. And i put them out on my table at home and i said you know every time you want to you you hit the urge to pick up this book instead and i think that's probably the right move if you can keep it up. That's because i did that. Like got. Probably covert start. I said anytime you feel like looking at instagram. Yeah pick up a book. And i the same thing i i didn't stick to it. I basically stop facebook. Basically stop twitter. I'll just do like a like I'll i'll your stuff and i'll just you know. Do some snarky comment by. Never liked post on twitter really. I spend way too much time on instagram. That said for me. There's career benefits sure on instagram. And again like out of all the stuff. I've posted this week. I've had like one guy that called me. A clown accused me of being on lucid payroll. Yeah and the payroll. Oh yeah the pair risk no it look there shitty people you might i might be. I don't know what it is about. You like i've i've just never like i i. It's crazy. I don't know maybe it's just like the bigger you get. As a celebrity. The more people feel they know you or something. Yes i don. I don't know what it is either but People are exceptionally shitty to me. Maybe it's because they know i'm sensitive Be that More you respond respond this certain way. But but i'm i'm trying to improve myself. Yeah i'm trying to like just just like being a better head space. Yeah out of that is quitting was quitting. We'd how's that going by the way fucking great. What the rain though. That's that's the part that disturb. I'm starting to find little parts of my day. Where i'd like a little caffeine and i it back to us. Caffeine was looking junkie. like a day. This this is not affecting me. Well and i've been drinking decaf and i've been enjoying it actually and i might go back to a little bit of mid day caffeine eventually but not smoking weed. I feel really good actually. Look i'm happy. I'm gonna say something adult I hope you don't taste away. But like you know when i first started getting to know you were stoned a lot and i was just like oh this you know whatever but then when i would see you when you weren't like this is like really really smart and is doing everything is powered not to show anyone. How smart is that make sense and it was. I was just like oh you know and there was you know when we do stuff like this. You know a hip. You weren't like stone. we'll look. We'd i stopped using weed socially probably two or three years ago and it really be just became my medicine for my self diagnosed. Self prescribes medicine for my anxiety. Right right right as it turns out. I think that we'd and caffeine was contributing more to the anxiety than it was solving. But i i couldn't see that once. I got sponsored by tradecraft. Okay who. I love those guys. And i saw the pebble nice jeff. Jeff in tommy. I love those guys. There's such great guys and if you smoke weed being paid to smoke. A particular brand is the mountaintop. Yeah and so. I went with that. Because why would you turn that down if you like we. But after a while i was smoking an eighth day. Flower fucking loss plus pens. Yeah because being paid to do that. But still and high-grade yeah it's really high percents and it was causing just as constant state of of weight. Feels like you're overwhelmed. Everything is overwhelming. The littlest inconvenience overwhelming. And i just said i i just. I don't think i can do it anymore. I think it's a huge positive for you. I really do. I mean look for me. I quit smoking pot in college like i. I just i for whatever reason the way marijuana. Everyone tries to the way. Marijuana affects me. Is i become.

"Just i was just literally blown away by We have a. We'll have videos of bronco off road on road and and you know what i think. This one is fifty one thousand. It's not ridiculously expensive and It's a it's a pretty solid package. Yeah i think a lot of. I think they're going to take a lot of money from jeep. I do because the the number of people that by wrangler ramblers justice stunt on the street and don't offer them human know that inside they wouldn't tell anybody else but it's huge huge and they'll go. This drives better and the dealer markup is insane believe once that eventually they'll catch gonna take a bit of money but the thing is that jeep is not really jeep already has the hybrid out. Which you know for doesn't have G has the three ninety-two jeep is not like they know what's happening. So this is the best thing that's ever happened to that segment. Yes like hats off to the fact you can still buy a four door. Convertible roof comes off and the doors. Come off yeah like company. How's that possible like it's the best. Yeah I was really impressed. And you'll see in the video at how not shit. The bronco was in the canyons. It was really not shit at all. And i mean i'm sure it would be worse if at thirty five on it this one regular wheels but like i hustle that thing up a canyon pretty good. Yeah was not not bad it was it was it was all right. I drove like Whatever the first edition launch addition wherever. They're calling it the You talked about it now. This is one of those wonderful things where they're like. You can drive it but don't talk about it. Yeah i was like okay. I'll talk about it now. why not. Yeah it was It's first of all those wheels. Just ganic i mean yes this like. I guess they're good off. Road zach pointed out you know the majority are going to be driving around l. a. or whatever It's huge. it's just makes it a monster truck which is kinda cool but yeah it was. It was really nice. You know a- again like after tasting the jeep three ninety-two. I'm like all these are kinda slow and pathetic. Well yeah. I mean the fucking six liter. V eight six four zero. I know i didn't need to use the extra syllable exhausting. The i four thousand five hundred seventy horsepower. According to join and for seventy thirteen o in the quarter mile that is actually two seconds quicker than the bronco broncos fifteen one quarter mile. Yeah the bronco ran the same trap speed and mile an hour that my ninety four mustang. Gt ran stock. Yeah no. It's good if zac if you pull up. I did like If if you type in like Ford bronco first test motor trend. I have the. I think it's a v6. I think we did use a v6 v6 numbers and the Bronco numbers for the outer banks in the same article for the acceleration. It was like five six to sixty for the bromine. Five looking good but five nine for the regular one. Yeah that's pretty good. I did actually up and it was a blurry photo. So they use the one with one wheel anyway to to driving that tomorrow and you're gonna love it offer and i bet the i bet the two way better off road to yeah i mean. It's it's got this fucking we'll defender next week to is good. Because all the broncos have the thing where it drags the left or right rear wheel to help like shorten the wheelbase which works on hairpins but the tour is gonna. The u-turns are so easy. Just to turn assists. Twins had that in the land cruiser for like since two thousand seven. I remember that yeah cool. Yeah actually it works. It's amazing yeah Can we talk about the monza pebble. Yes was s. p. one last few one it was Oh god i'm going to get his name wrong. There was going to yell at me but very orlando. He's a baseball. Justin justin married kid so he wanted life. Baseball player married. Kate upton single-seat it's it's okay. So you've driven the super fast. Yes you've driven. The superfast gts which is finally drove isn't it. The the unicorn is paint. Think that thing is great car. Okay so this is that. With thirty extra horsepower shield. It's no glass. I mean there's no glass at all no seat so carseats seats probably about seventy pounds plus seatbelts and all that all out plus the bodies all carbon. So you're probably talking seven hundred pounds less i. It's dry but much to be honest but well you'll love this so we sit in the cars for forty five minutes because pebbles and absolute shit show and everything runs late right twelve seconds to go. I'm make the third car online. This guy walks up. He's like you need to get in front of that car. The car in front of me. And i'm like okay so we start going so i like basically cut the guy off honk. I've as a horn. I can't remember. It was like yelled. Or whatever i got to be in front of. You have an as going around the corner. Someone's like hey it's jason like i'm fucking johnny. Nearly crashes thing because of the delay. I had like an eighth of a mile to the we were being because they're not street legal so there's a cop. Oh i forgot about that. Yeah now they're there. I should say ferrari has figured out a way to make them street legal so because now that they're used cars like they don't have to have a backup camera on all that you can't sell a new car in the us without a backup camera. Used car can be converted some th. They're they're figuring anyhow. I had like an eighth of a mile. All i really got florida and it was just. It was just rat right when i hit whatever top speed i hit like a bug went right my so they look pretty fucking cold. They look real nasty. I mean and i love that. It's not like that looks so much different from an looks more different from an eight twelve than that new coon tash looks from an event. The door oh you know what i mean like. Wait if they win crazy. Yeah i mean look at that. It looks so fucking nasty. And what's cool because you know how ferrario owners are fairly conservative when they spec cars like fairly compare lamborghini mclaren owner. All these guys. Everyone who bought one owns fifteen ferraris talking to guys like oh black black end zoya but these went nuts so no to respect alike. That's cool and.

"It's incredible yeah. No i mean this this show had I mean i think it was sponsored by ferrari club so there's a whole section of like semi modern for his great. Yeah whatever yeah. There was a british section where there was more morgan's than i've ever seen in one place by twenty five morgan's And some old jaguar e type stuff. There's a brass era section where people were running their steam cars and doing all kinds of weird stuff The prewar american section was really cool and there was like a really An interesting like convertibles section in the back and there's a couple of those early retractable hardtops with the wonky mechanisms and rates stuff. Last time last time i went they had two cars really stood out. They had lasalle thirty four lasalle. Which was the companion brand new cadillac xtss. It was the first car that harley earl ever designed for general motors and it was just. It was orange. It was goes most stunning thing. Oh way was probably like coral orange right. Yeah it was. I was like what color is meeting. And then there was like two. I think of my actual favorite cars that i'll you know. I'll never be able to drive her own them. But the post-war alfa romeo six c oh yeah so there's the they're not as striking looking as the abc's but if you look at the interiors. And i just freak out like they are the coolest looking interiors the Right there forty eight second row down on the left. Yeah on yeah that type of thing. Twenty five hundred hot or the twenty. Six hundred's actually the hot one but for the next year but the the interior of these like i. Just oh yeah. Oh that was count. Proc- car the gray one. There count. i didn't know count. Tracy also had an alpha but he was a. There's a famous mercedes s. k. Far right up above wow full interior and if you can make a big enough but it's just not. It wouldn't be thirty nine. They're just there's something magical about those cars two of them and again for me. It's like a ten minute drive from my house to the show and and you know. I love pebble. I went to pebble awesome but the quality of the stuff on this lawn rivals and really impressive crazy. Yeah yeah such a cool show And and i. That's not quite it'd be. It'd be like a forty six to fifty. Yeah but anyways really really good good stuff. I can't recommend that show highly enough if you're in. La yes. september yes. it's the coolest show and christian. I took the doors and roof off the bronco to go there. Yes so what do you make of the bronco dude. I really dig the bronco. I mean I've got the two door Outer banks which is like the street won the street wider of the ford orban. Yeah i love the two or or the wheelbase. The turning radius like it's fabulous like it's a great city vehicle. Haven't tried to four door yet. i'd like to But this thing was great. And i climb in the back seat pretty easily Did you go off-road tomorrow morning we're going off but we haven't had the chance yet. Tomorrow morning we're going off road with two vehicles the outback wilderness. And the bronco you're going to Our yeah all right. So you'll be shocked in two ways you'll be shocked. At how great the broncos off like like i had the outer banks which again is on basically a street tire. Yeah it's on a seventeen inch seventeen seventeen inch seventeen fifty five. I just read this to fifty five sixty five seventeen. But it's not the bef g like Neo noor up right. Yeah but millimeters not inches. Thirty five sorry. Yes not thirty. But i i went off and i was like. Oh my god. This thing is legit also. I should point. This is the most important thing about broncos is in any mode doesn't in any bronco you can lock the rear. Excellent wheel drive Which means you just dumb stuff for no reason and like the wrangler you can on the the two thousand twenty one only rubicon so you can lock the rear excellent four high Or or too high but all the others. You can't do it. You have to be in four load off the just. Yeah so the broncos are hoon. I'm pretty sure the gladiator. I drove twenty twenty one. Gladiator twenty gladiator mahaffy's basically concord locked the rear diff- raptor and that. Yeah that's the mojave is basically rubicon rise. Stop it's only for twenty one and then You'll be shocked. Did how you're going to have to leave the subaru in the parking lot because it's not gonna make that first obstacle It won't i just just based on nothing other than Well some some work. We did christian cba reviewed it in like he was on like almost nothing and it was like spinning its wheels but also now really approach angles and the departure angles on that. You're going to twenty degrees twenty so you want to approach. I actually not try that trail in the try it. i mean. it doesn't make it past the first obscenity. Back up story. Yeah struggle. Because i did that in a toyota forerunner tr deep fro. And i had to literally forelo and then it would not go. And i had locked rear axle for the former hundred ago. Really yeah i i. The first section is crazy sexually steep. But it's just didn't sport no problems his way better than it should be noted. Good yeah it has. No reason to be is good but jessica. It's subaru is like oh. Johnny said a bench can't do that trail in a fucking outback wilderness. I jessica if you're listening. Dr. one dollar it does not get without. You could damage the body and figure out some alternate way to do it. I don't want to break it. Yeah we might need a run though. Because i think the low speed low speed with traction issues with the cvt. I've read that and it can struggle with that and my presents them all sorts of cvt. Let's go up to like seven thousand rpm. You'll have no torque smoke. The but again. I just think that approach angle like no way no how okay and the rest of the trail honestly like tough trail. Well even i took a g wagon wheel g. Sixty three at the offered. Pack whatever they call it which is bad ass but i scratched it. Yeah i scratched the Defender the no the Landcruiser not scratch the land cruiser. Going up there approach angle. That's a landcruiser has like a god. I should know there's thirty. Two degree approach angle. Things established like twenty and a half twenty so wrangler. You know thirty six or something. Maybe we should just film the outback on the dirt. Approach road the fire out and try it but if we make that the crux of the video the video you over thirty seconds. I drove the outback around today. On the street i liked it. Yeah i mean the new outback is like a pretty nice car. Seats are comfortable. they're great. I mean we just did a thing with the honda accord class of vehicles. We the legacy which is basically like a outback. That's not lifted and like. Oh make just a legacy. Yeah i was. I saw just a regular legacy but on the honda transcends the class the court is so good that it has no competition but for the other six cars like the cameras and whatever i thought the outback was second place at not. The back the legacy. I think actually came in third and are things. The key k. Five or whatever was ahead of it but they're very close but yeah the legacy is great. This thing has been is impressive. And just in the comfort level and that new engine subaru's putting an turbo motor. This has the term motor and then also the big screen for the money. It's like that's pretty thing is under forty thousand. That's a. It's a lot of car for under forty grand and remember what most people are not going to go and do that first. Obstacle rower flat right. They're going to go down a dirt trail and pitch at ten. It's yeah yeah it looks kind of a roof rack. That's like perfectly set up for For roof tent. Yeah yeah yeah so yeah. I'm pretty stoked on it. Actually it's you i. It's i'm excited to try it. I'm curious to find out what happened. Bronco we took the doors off in five minutes. It was really easy to take them off. And then you hit on my instagram. You're like wait. You try to get them back on right. So what's so hard about getting them back on. You know typical. Jose ford fashion. Where you know. They're they're very good at this one. Yeah they're very good boosting their positives Like they're like okay. What's the problem with the wrangler. And it's like well. There's there's three things you have to unscrew to get it off. They're like we're going to do it in two so it comes off easy. It is impossible to line the thing up and like if you had. I know people you could do it but the hot tip people could should be able to do it right. You can't because it doesn't have external hinges as internal hinges..

Motor Trend Reviews Plaid Model S, and and New Battery Details

"Everybody here and stay. We're talking about the first journalist reviews of the new plan model. we've also got an update on the battery capacity. We'll talk about some details behind that we've got an update from dan is on tesla's stock an update on gigabyte lynn news on tussles referral program. And an interesting tweet from elon. Musk that has caused a lot of speculation. Also quick the stock tussle today finishing up about two percent to six hundred and sixteen dollars sixty cents. That compared to the nasdaq also. Strong day up nine tenths of a percent are. Let's start off here with the initial reviews of the model s. so we have one for motor trend. We have one from automotive journalist. Jason kameda whenever tesla has a new vehicle. I always look forward to these. It's kind of a nice time to celebrate what tesla has done with that new vehicle and unlike what we see business news wise from cnbc or reuters. This is automotive new. So the writing is different style. there's a lot of primitives. Nice compliments towards tesla and sometimes some really beautiful writing which again you tend not to see too much in business. News look at trends review here first. So of course. The question that everyone has undermined around this vehicle is can't actually do zero to sixty in under two seconds motor trends answer. Yes but with some stipulation so they actually spent kind of the i. I don't know half or third of this article talking about the requirements that they had for their sixty test run which i think unfortunately it detracts a little bit from their main takeaways. Which of course. We'll talk about as well but they been a fair amount of time talking about how Wanted them to run on a specific track with specific tests conditions. One of those conditions being that the drag strip needed to be prepared with hd which motor trend says as a quote thick black resin that allows cars to accelerate quicker than is possible on normal roads and quote framed that way it does look a little bit manipulative or suspect. But it's not like the hd is common this is a substance that most drag strips are using and using in competition so this is not so unusual thing in quarter mile races. It's just not how motor trend. Test their cars so they wanted to make sure that that part was clear so understanding that they write quote. The plaid model s zips down the quarter mile in a staggeringly quick. Nine point. two five seconds up one hundred fifty two point six miles per hour.

GT500 vs. The World

"We're going to start off this week with an article about the thirty five hundred and I want to throw it over to use Smith because you've been writing about the GT five hundred a lot for us. So what's the news. It all boils down to something that originated really way back in two thousand three two thousand four with ESPN Cobra it's comparisons with with the GP five hundred against cars that you normally expect and There's Jason Committee that did A really outstanding video where he drove the GT five five hundred against The hell cat which okay. That's that's a pretty apples to apples comparison but then they took it on to a track with the Ferrari twelve super fast and end. And this one. This is the one that got me the most the Porsche nine eleven. Gt Three IRS And to give a little background Jason Camellias a friend of the site. He's written frost or or he's A. He's a veteran and he makes great video. This is amazing video just a production quality as well as the fact he got these. This trio of of really supercars to bring together to go against the GT five hundred so tell us tell us how did against each one at absolutely. Yeah if you haven't seen the video We've got the the article article motor wound with a link to his video I mean in short the GT five hundred is punching way above its weight class. I above way above At well we we should. We should clarify that way. Above in terms of handling because the GT five hundred never had a problem going fast in a straight line And and for this comparison it beats the hell cat. Okay which it handily beat thou cat like by on links it handily beating. Yeah well and and Jason points out in the video you know when you're not at a prep drag strip service which really the hell cat and especially the demon. Those cars are designed to launch hard from prepped drag strip surface in the real world. It's a little different and that video really showcases that and they did did they did it in the video on an airstrip. That wasn't a service. I think I think the demon drives dragster would win. Yes I oh yeah I I still think it would wind and Pretty easily just the way. That car launches. I mean it's it. Set Up to launch out of the whole Just having the horsepower is neat but that car is is really set up to launch the. Gt five hundred though is set up to accelerate pretty hard and handle and with bet carbon-fiber track back package that makes all the difference in the world I kind of glossed over the Ferrari. They did line up the GT. Five hundred with the eight twelve super fast doesn't quite the hang with for the Ferrari the Ferrari was was able to lodge a little bit better and the Ferrari held the lead over the GD five hundred but the Porsche folks were talking hit about nine eleven. Gt Three RS on a track driven by a professional racing driver. The Times where I think less than two hence of a second apart. That's gene five hundred verses one of the best handling production cars in the world right now it was. It was a virtual tie. I mean gene. Kelly was they if they had done two more laps than I'm I'm sure they did. They could have eked out a scenario where the five hundred would have been ahead now. Does that mean the GT. Five hundred is just absolutely carving the heck out of corners. It's it's doing pretty well but I mean let's be honest. Gt five hundred has tremendous horsepower. Advantage manage over over the poorest the GTS and what you're seeing is the GT five hundred really taking the portion. The straights the poorest coming back back to the GT five hundred in the corners but the GT. Five hundred still has enough in the coroner's to balance it out over the track and that's something that we've we've never seen from Mustang before it's crazy but we also we also wrote about another head to head matchup between the five hundred and the corvette tell us about that and and you know I remember this one and I even talk about it in the article a little bit back when the sat kober about three or four. That's that was kind of the first time where people people said. Wow can this Mustang actually hang with a corvette of course back then Chevrolet a drop. The camaro there really wasn't anything else to match the Mustang up against and and back then it was. Sat Cobra Against Corvette zero six apples to apples. That was the ultimate evolution of both models. Right there this This this comparison. It's the new. Gt five hundred with the carbon fiber tract package against the currency eight corvette which is of course we. We know the stingray. It's the entry level corvettes ourselves the basis. That really apples is not really apples to apples. But according to motor trend with that track pack Jack the Mustang the five hundred quicker around track. They didn't say how much they didn't list any time. So you have anything to go on there but you know you talking about a mid engine supercar really now against a school for an engine car. Yeah it was strange that they were so vague about the specifics. In you know definitely the the lap times of the GT five hundred versus the corvette but any other details. They left out so I I don't know why they do that. Maybe they're saving saving for a video or or one of their TV shows but and it is an apples to apples. You're right this is the fastest Mustang versus the slowest corvette. And we'RE GONNA be getting corvettes that that I'm sure we'll eclipse. Gt five hundred at some point. And I gotta say I mean I think everybody knows I'm kind of a Mustang Fan but I'm a performance fan too. I took a little exception to that. A psycho cades AIDS. This isn't really an apples to apples. Comparison I WANNA see now. What zero six? The new zero six will do against the five hundred that I don't. I don't think that's going going to be a comparison at all. That's I mean just listening to that thing with the you know in the eight are seen the are yeah. That's I can't wait for

Corvette Stingray Wins MotorTrend Car of the Year And It's Not Even Here Yet

"From wandering. I'm David Brown. And this is business wars daily happy weekend everyone. Are you traveling rolling over this long weekend. Will for those of you holiday road trippers. Just imagine how much better you're trek would be in a really cool car. Motor trend his name. The New Chevy Corvette you bet stingray as its car of the year. The eighth iteration of the corvette. C Eight represents a dramatic departure for the sixty-six-year-old car. It's a sleek aggressively fast. Sports car that goes from zero to sixty in two point eight seconds. That's the same acceleration as the Ferrari. Eight twelve super fast. According to motor trend the stingrays engine sits behind the seats in the middle of the car rather than in the front like most cars and all previous iterations of the corvette most startling however is the modesty the of its price tag relatively speaking at about sixty thousand dollars starting price motor trend called it a supercar sports car prices. The magazine compares it favorably favorably to the Porsche nine eleven which costs more than one hundred thousand dollars and two that Ferrari eight twelve for three hundred sixty thousand dollars. General Enron motors is betting that supercar fans without supercar budgets are already salivating and they are accepted motor trends. Winter hasn't exactly been input into production yet. The Twenty nineteen car of the year won't come off the assembly line until twenty twenty motor trend defends its choice by saying General Motors plan to build the car this year but the GM auto workers strike which lasted forty days sideline production by giving the corvette a complete overhaul and sixty sixty thousand dollars entry point price tag. GM is trying to win over a new generation of younger car buyers. It also made the controversial decision to scrap the corvettes abets manual transmission typical sports and supercars for an automatic that too is designed to appeal to new and younger sports car shoppers. It's never easy easy to make design decisions to attract new customers when you have a legacy product especially one with a lot of fans like the vet for people sentimentally attached to the way things were her new models can often disappoint but GM began taking orders for the twenty twenty stingray back in August and months ago. The company said it was almost sold out out those early sales may well prove that. The automakers bold move is paying off especially given a less than stellar sports car. Market Auto purchases in general are declining and muscle cars. Make up only about two percent of all car sales according to Edmunds. That number is down about half from ten years ago the La Times reported but given the stingray

"Love it. Yeah, just say Porsche say for any nine eleven GT three would probably be I love them. I'm not as predictable but ninety seven GT three four. Archy other one know Sharkey Sharkey four hundred Escott. Oh, also that car hangups grew up a little bit. Yes. No, no seven two two. Yeah. Oh, yeah. This is this year. Deductible rot. Don't be rot. Yeah. So what's cool about this Magnus confirmed it for me this year? Like this was the fastest car on the mealy. When I drove it, and Magnus was telling me that, like they give him a hand of the black car, and he's like off. There were saying the red cards the fast one because we were just cruising. Buck forty to get that gig man, which gig the drive to the mid one nine. It's the greatest, I think actually secured a seat for next year. Already. Co drive with you know. All right. But you could probably get on call, call Mercedes, I gotta call somebody. Yeah. I'm gonna call somebody different manufacturers supposedly with Bentley where they told me I'd have to navigate for four days. And I was like sorry mate can't do it. It was like then you're not going, and I'm like, why don't you like fly to England and teach me for a week at a drive the car. No. So I was like, yeah, I can't, I can't be a passenger for four days. I go. No, no. I couldn't either. Unless, like was it like who's driving? Ryan gush wind. Okay. Why was your thoughts? You almost Brian Johnson. No cd. No. But, like maybe but I can go. I said, I said, Ben Lee MC, would you want the story to be like, you know, the, the blower was a nice car to ride around him, but Mercedes actually, let me drive the car way, more fun with Mercedes. What do you want? Completely understand, say we call this show, I think this is a show. Yeah. Yeah. I think this is the show. Let's get. Oh, the drill. Jonny Lieberman on Instagram. Jeff Jeff throw bobbing bobbins on Instagram head to head on Motor Trend. Now know everyone, you know it's fucking. We were on TV channel. It's so crazy. It's like the BTS of, of the of maybe going that way. That's crazy. We're on the cover that was we were on the cover. I saw that weirdest. Yeah. It's cool. No one, no one really noticed. It was on. Was super awesome in personal career news pickup, the new issue of road and track I was real fast even better than this picture. Make sure. This is the greatest sherpa is on by photographs by puppy, knock old. I went I went to so far in the middle of nowhere to drive this thing. We broke through ice. Remember stompers, it's a fucking stompers. This is the greatest vehicle ever built by human. Yeah. I got it that in my view of it is in road and.

"Control on when they when you go to the drivers meeting, and they say who's never been in the track before be honest. And they'll help you don't be afraid to raise your hand to that to try look, cool. Just be honest, and they'll tell you everything you need to know read up on trail braking. Last one, and then we're gonna outta here. Patrick says what is the car that made you emotion emotional about driving wanting it? The car that owning one would be a challenger would take a long time to purchase while I'm often in tears after drives up any kind of food it. I'll pay my mind mine's pretty easy and it goes back to what we drove today. The super Forman's Brock coupe. Oh, yeah. The I remember driving that car, and I couldn't believe a car kit. Car built in South Africa. Could be that good. I couldn't believe a car could have damping like that. I couldn't believe that a you know, five hundred sixty horsepower big block could like be so livable everything about that. Car is incredible. And so everyone knows the story. Peter Brock picture there. The cars, he built that super cool. Yeah. But that the cars at one the mall. He said, there are pieces of shit there after five feet of driving on there's miserable. So he can he designed them. So he took this. Car, he like lengthened it by figure by what four inches wind it by four inches put in a c- redid the suspension, and it was going to be called the Brock coupe and Shelby is still alive and sued super forms. So they had to change it to the Shelby, Daytona coupe, but Doug, who we met. He actually has brought Koop badges on his wife's car it. Yeah. It's the Brock. It's the Brock coupe. It's the coolest thing in the world. I drove that too. Yeah. When he designed that it was very funny, three had to choose one super form inside think I prefer the GT forty two now Brian because I just think is the best looking thing, though. I think just as the looking thing ever, I say, I just side pipes look at it just so cool. Sexy blue blue. I the car that made me emotional about driving was like laxly like when I was a little kid was the DeLorean originally the first car was the DeLorean, I didn't know it was like, not a good car. I was like four shit. And then, of course, you know, the Coon Tosh, which I'm now I'm now lucky enough to I hate you. I've told this story seven hundred times. But when I was like nine years old might my dad was from Montreal. We'd go there all the time. I was like nine years old, and there was an orange Coon, Tosh, sitting on, like gray cobblestones street. And I think I stared at it for a half hour. He just left me there, 'cause I was just a couldn't believe it couldn't believe it, never seen him before didn't even know what a car magazine was nothing was on TV. And I just blew my mind, my favorite thing about my car. I mean driving it, obviously. I mean, no, not about the car. My favorite thing about my car is that when I take it out of the garage. It doesn't matter where I go anytime it leaves the garage somebody tells me that they are seeing one for the first one. Oh, every single time and it is such a treat every off. Someone says that old people young people from all over the place. That's cool. And, and I feel like I probably see nominal twenty different ones in my, that's a lot. You know. So I guess I'm I I lose my shit tuba. My first time. Yeah, that's how Jethro. Emotional guy. All the unloved driving. So I. In this. Fucking, great fun. I love it. Yeah, just say Porsche say for any nine eleven GT three would probably be I love them. I'm not as predictable but ninety seven GT three four. Archy other one know Sharkey Sharkey four hundred Escott. We, we have data somewhere, where we had at the time we had, I think it was the, the Z, what's the big Chevy Camaro with the blower, the zero one zero one. So the for one lap Laguna, you know, like the, the Mustang was quicker. But then the next lap it lost a half, second the next lap and lost a half second. And it was like, you know, the, the Chevys at three laps like within a tenth of each other. So it's like, yeah I can do one. I think we just talk this guy out of this car. All right. Yeah, sorry, buddy. Ben says the wife and I are traveling around England and Scotland for two weeks in August should I rent a car or use public transport? Find them near the mouthwash. Welcome to brain stuff from how stuff works. Hey, rain stuff. Lauren bo-bottle here. Let's say you're at a red light. And one of the drivers in front of you revs their engine something that sounds like muscle. But it's car over the recipients of their challenge is a pricey electric luxury vehicle. The light turns green which car leaves the other in the dust. Would you be surprised if the electric vehicle one out if you want to go from zero to sixty as fast as possible and electric car is the way to go however gas powered cars can still have faster top speeds? So what's the key difference between the two cars, mostly the transmission or the lack thereof? Let's unpack that I in general racing terminology. Quick means how long it takes to get from point eight point be while fast means the top speed of vehicle reaches in drag racing for example, the faster vehicle hits the higher speed over the course of the race, but the quicker vehicle gets to the finish line. First electric cars are capable of being quicker than gas powered cars, but there. Not yet capable of going faster, our zero to sixty scenario is a good example aghast. Lean cars do have a performance advantage. When those top speeds are being sustained for longer. Periods of time electric vehicles generate much more torque than gas vehicles, which is important because torque is what drives the vehicle forward. Furthermore, an electric cars. Motor eliminates the need for a traditional transmission. In many modern designs, the power goes straight to the wheels for instant acceleration, making Trich vehicles quicker on the start in a gas powered car the engine has to route the power I of the transmission. And then to the wheels of the components collectively known as the drive train or power train this process takes longer wasting crucial zero to sixty potential some of the power created by the engine usually about fifteen percent is also wasted traveling through the drive train known as drivetrain loss. If you're comparing an electric car and gas car with the same horsepower rating, the electric car is able to use a lot more. It's horsepower to that's. Because electric vehicles have fewer moving parts. So they're able to run more efficiently efficiency, isn't based strictly in terms of fuel consumption, the vehicle's speed and agility are affected to the instant torque and simplified powertrain are the two factors that enable an electric vehicle to take off from a stop much faster than a gas vehicle of comparable power specs. That's how tesla and other electric supercars achieve zero to sixty times of just two to three seconds for our metric friends, by the way, zero to sixty miles per hour is equivalent to about zero to ninety seven kilometers per hour. Tesla doesn't provide horsepower ratings but road and track used a machine called a Dinah monitor to test a top end two thousand seventeen model S P one hundred d with the ludicrous speed upgrade, they got a reading a five hundred eighty eight horsepower at the wheels which again is somewhat less than it would be rated if tested at the engine when Motor Trend road tested these same model without the upgrade in two thousand seventeen the magazine had never seen a zero to sixty run in less than two point three seconds. But the tesla came in at two point two seven five seconds, which at the time it made it the quickest stock production vehicle ever, however as Motor Trend explained if that tesla was racing against a Ferrari, LA Ferrari, a Porsche nine eighteen or McLaren p one those three gas powered supercars would catch up to the tesla and pull ahead within seconds. If a Ferrari or McLaren are a little outside your budget a gas powered car like the twenty nineteen dodge challenger s RT hell cat with it's eight hundred and forty horsepower. Supercharged six point two liter v. Eight engine boasts the top speed of two hundred and three miles per hour. That's about three hundred and twenty seven Commodores per hour and a zero to sixty time of three point four seconds. In terms of zero to sixty times electric cars currently have the big advantage. However, the electric vehicle industry is realizing that their cars need to sustain that performance over the long haul which leads us back to the transmission for all of the enthusiasms rounding trick vehicles, performance and officiency. Thanks to the absence of a traditional transmission. Some engineers are actually working on new transmission designs, specifically for electric cars. That's because the lack of one keeps the electric vehicles top speed slower than it. Otherwise would be a well-designed transmission, specifically foreign electric vehicle would act as a sort of intermediary to help manage the car's power delivery as well. As the battery range this would make it possible to drive at faster speeds for longer periods of time, while still wasting less energy. Generally the batteries on electric cars top out at about two hundred fifty to three hundred ten miles. That's four hundred five hundred kilometers. But an advanced transmission design could help extend that range. The key is to keep it simple interview. Meaning only enough to make the car as good at fast speeds as it is at low speeds.
