"Get on a rolling continue and they just don't they fizzle out for one for one reason or another. And let's not forget pit road speeding. Penalties and pit road issues and all that stuff. That scares me too with a lot of people. We're looking at the play out pitcher right there. And obviously, the name everybody's talking about bagman is being outside, is Martin Truex Junior. I think normally we'd be thinking, this is a guy, he's one at Watkins Glen one there in 2017 on his way to the championship, has won at Sonoma as one many road courses throughout his career, but no one's really talking about it as a contender this week. Kyle said it this morning. Did he miss his best shot already at Richmond because of the way Toyota has run on road courses this year and the fact that Truex doesn't have a win in a super speedway, can Martin Truex Junior still make the playoffs. He's going to have to have more help than he needed last week because I agree with Kyle. I thought Richmond was his best opportunity. Statistically coming in MTG was gold last week. When you were coming in to Watkins Glen, I think some of the bloom has fallen off his rose at Watkins plan in road forces. And he even admitted it with us on motor racing network last week. He's like, look, we're not as good as the road courses as we used to be. And there's obviously a difference there. I'm not going to totally rule him out, but I got people that I think that could win that race right now more than I think he can. And then we go to Daytona. He's just not been good on super speedways. Martin, there's a wreck that's going to break out. Martin's going to be in the middle of it. I mean, he came close to winning that Daytona 500, but as far as being one of those names on the short list to win the Daytona, I just don't have MTG there. He's going to have to have some help, something's going to have to happen to the 12, or he's going to have to take advantage of some pitch strategy or some luck of the draw at Daytona, but I think his best chances to even make it to the playoffs have passed. My confidence is low on the 19th. Not saying they can't do it, but my confidence is a whole lot less this week than it was going into Richmond last week. And you feel like ship may have sailed. Yeah. Listen, I do. I think listen, he's had success on the road courses. And but here we've seen what the Chevy's done. We just talked to Randall. We know what chase brings to the road course and the Chevy's bringing the road tours and Tyler brings to the road course. And we know what Austin brings to the road course and some of these guys that are pretty good. I think Martin continues to go down by the time we get to Daytona. I've got Corey Lajoie, Austin Dillon, Eric Almirola, Ricky Stenhouse. I got all these guys ahead of Martin Truex when by the time I get to Daytona

"About calling, he's on fire, so there you go. Well, that's a tremendous memory that LT has and LT is exactly right. I called races at Louisville downs, the old harness track on poplar level road in Louisville Kentucky, which is long since now has become the church hold downs training center, and I was at Louisville downs in the fall of 88 through the winter of 88, 89. And yes, I remember the late Bill king, who was the proprietor of Louisville downs. A great guy did a lot for me. The racing secretary was a man by the name of Mick Myers. I actually shared an apartment with Dan Klein from the broadcast service and photo finish department. So that brings back a lot of fun memories. Louisville downs was a terrific place because it was a half mile race track. So as far as your sight lines, it was the fish in a barrel type of scenario where you could always see the horses and see them clearly they had great night racing programs there. The other thing I remember regarding the phrase horse making a big rally and saying he's on fire. I backed away from that type of thing as I transitioned to thoroughbreds for a couple of reasons. Number one, I learned that handicappers, if you're gonna give a big call like that, as I got more experience, you better darn well be certain that horse is gonna win. If you start giving a big call down the scratch, the so and so is on fire and then they run fourth or third, they're gonna be people saying, hey, mister track announcer, what happened to the horse you were just carrying on about. And the other, the other thing is when I went to keenland because of keenland having not had a track announcer for their first 60 years, that was that was a transition where one had to be careful. And you didn't want to come in and overpower the audience or overpower the listener. So even now after 25 years at Camden, I'm still a little careful and maybe a little more subdued about my delivery. I had a buddy one day that he sent me a text and he said you can loosen up a little bit. You sound like you're reading the phonebook to the rotary club. So I guess there's a balance that you eventually find, but I think we've loosened up somewhat at keenland over the years. If you have ever wanted to talk to track and answer Kurt Becker, here is your chance, HR and nation, the number to call 888-966-4776. That is 8 8 8 9 6 6 hr, Kurt, another email question for you. Sally Ellen in Maryland has a couple of questions actually. She said, although mister Becker is an icon as the first announcer at keelan, is there another track he would like to call a race. Interesting. That is interesting. I've been fortunate to call races at a number of other tracks weather as the full-time track announcer or on the substitute basis, for example, my para mutual thoroughbred experience began in Chicago and I was fortunate to call at Hawthorne, the old sportsman's park, Arlington park. It's heartbreaking to me, especially being a negative Illinois to realize that as things now stand two of those three tracks are no longer active, but I'm grateful and I've had a chance to call it all three of those in the Chicago area. I have had a chance to fill in a turfway park years ago from Mike the taglia for a program or two. Tom durkin and John embryo, they asked me to fill in back 2008. When Tom was tied up with the NBC gig with Triple Crown coverage, I got a chance to go out and call races at Belmont park for a couple of weeks that spring, which was absolutely a thrill. As far as the question, is there any track that you haven't called where you would like to call? I will say this. I'm satisfied, being the track announcer at keen. I should have mentioned also Churchill dance, my goodness. To have the chance from the folks at Churchill to be the track announcer for a couple of seasons and call The Kentucky Derby. I will always owe a huge debt of gratitude to the folks at Churchill downs. That that is something I always take great pride in being able to say that I had a chance to do. And the folks to this day I always enjoy chance to go over and chat with them there and good friends on the Kentucky circuit. But Sally Ellen had technically asked, is there a track you haven't done yet? No, I've never really looked and said, oh, I wish or want to be the track announcer there, but I will say this, there are track announcers I certainly envy and I'm a Midwest guy. Flatland cornfields bean fields, wheat fields, which are fine, but I will say Frank Mira Madi out there at Santa Anita. That backdrop with the San Gabriel mountains, that is absolutely beautiful. I love the beauty of keelan and I still rank Caitlin number one, but as a Midwest guy who doesn't get to see the mountains very often, I think Frank's got a great working environment. All right, I'll get to Sally Ellen's second question here momentarily. Kurt, but Peter is in Albany. Peter, go ahead. You are on the line. You are hosting the show with Kurt Becker. Well, it's an honor to speak to the most iconic horse racing announcer that I've ever heard in my lifetime. My question is this. I know you only do the keenland meets, the spring and the fall meet, which are about three, three and a half weeks. I had heard through some bodies that the reason why you won't do more calling than those two, three week meets is because you're doing ask. Is that true or is that not true? There is some truth to that. The truth lies in the fact that Peter's right. I do play by play for the folks at motor racing network, which is a network radio coverage of NASCAR for the top three divisions, the Cup Series, the Xfinity series, and the camping world truck series. Now, with that said, it's not that I am opposed to doing more track announcing if it would fit around the schedule I've got. That's one thing about motor racing network. I've got to give them a lot of credit here because they understand I grew up in a horse racing family. Although it was a standard bred family, they know that horses are something that go back literally to my childhood. So every year, what motor racing network does, they're kind enough to say, send us your candle and dates. And we will work you into our schedule around that. Now, with that said, that's not to say that there couldn't be another opportunity, I suppose, that would come up down the road, but I've been fortunate because I enjoy both sports. I love both sports. So right now, I'm content that I get to have a foot in each world, so to speak. All right, thanks for the phone call, Peter. 8 8 8 9 6 6 HR N the number of the call to talk to track announcer Kurt Becker 888-966-4776..

"Yeah, man, it feels crazy. You'll probably hear a little bit of echo this week because I don't have any of the foam installed and stuff like that. But yeah, and the new house in Concorde just outside Charlotte, so any particular reason you chose that location of the country? Well, you know, I mean, it's almost like we do this thing where a bunch of teams are located in this area. I see. I see. So it's NASCAR related. Yeah, and so the cool thing, the takeaway that I have in the first week I've been here. Is when you're driving on highways and Texas, California, wherever you live, you see the adopt a highway program. Yep. And it's always weird companies that you don't even really know in your state or whatever you're like, whatever. Yeah, I'm driving through here, and it's motor racing network. It's Hendrick auto group. It's all these NASCAR companies. And it's like, oh, cool. I actually know all these guys. That's cool. That is cool. You should take pictures of that. That's pretty interesting. I wouldn't know that if you haven't been there. I was driving down to the gas station today, see racing electronics is building and the NASCAR technical institute. There's a bunch of cool stuff. So it's just interesting. One thing you won't find there is mechanics where, you know how I know that? Because they're where you're at. They were out exactly. I don't know why, but mechanics where is just a few miles from my house. Big, massive building. I mean, just huge. I think rowdy dragon live out that way, too. I think he lives in the Sonoma area. Doesn't he? Okay, I knew he was in California. Wasn't sure where. Yeah, it's a big state. I.

"This is NASCAR Live now back to Mike Bagley. We continue on this week's NASCAR Live. Let's jump Right back in with Steve posting Kendra Jacobs and then ultimately Kendra. It gets into the Knights racing and I love when we've done this in the past that Al Dora two heat races. And and a main. That's what you're used to. It's not necessarily what NASCAR is used to, but it has that dirt track field when we get into Friday night, Yeah, and that's one of the the The differences of dirt racing is it's short bursts of action. With downtown in between, so you're going to get these short bursts of exciting racing and let's be honest, like everyone's going to have that bubble of anticipation right to say This is the first laps NASCAR's making on Knoxville Raceway, which is just so cool for all of us. But then you have these little breaks where, you know, get food. You know who grab drinks. You can talk to your buddy sitting next to you. And you've got these little minute. You know these 10 minute windows and then action starts all over again. So I think it is a really like you might never been a sprint car fan before. You might never been a dirt track fan before, but it's a really good introduction to who we are and what we do, and hopefully you enjoy it and you give us another chance and come back and whether that's for NASCAR again in the future, or you come back in August for the Nationals. Give us another shot and come back again. Well, okay. We'll get to August here in a second time. They don't need to worry. Wait that long to come back Because this is while we're talking to one day, the NASCAR, So I mean this practice Thursday night, the NASCAR races Friday night. Okay. If people really get into this dirt track thing you've got equally as big a day coming up on Saturday after the NASCAR please stop. Yeah, it's I would venture to say it's one of the most diverse weekends and motor sports in the country. So NASCAR trucks Friday Saturday non wing for 10 sprints and wait for a 10 sprints. Which we both know are amazing shows. I mean, if you want to see sideways racing, it's the Usak non wing cars on Knoxville. It's amazing. So this to me, I guess I just assume everyone's just gonna stay because why would you leave before one of the most action packed nights that we have all year? So Being able to see NASCAR non wing wing all in a 24 hour period is just incredible. I mean, I mean, we're excited. I get excited about everything we do here and I'm hoping that's contagious. So, yeah, if the fans like Love what you see Friday. Stick around because Saturday is going to be great to you haven't seen anything yet. When you're done Friday, until you see Saturday, one of our biggest issues with motor racing network has traveled dilemmas because our normal travel as we fly on the day before the race, and we filed the morning after the race. Well, all of the special request. I think most of the Marin crew is flying out Sunday after the race. I don't know what we're going to do on Saturday, but I have a hunch. I know where we're going to be, that's for sure. Actually, I think I think you and you've got me roped into a Q and a session with some of the sprint I did Saturday. Oh, that's great. Yes, A Saturday you and Tony barcode. We're gonna be back up on that stage with a bunch of sprint car drivers, wings and non wing So hopefully we'll get some of their input on what they thought of the NASCAR raised and how different it's going to be when they're on track. So maybe we can get some guys like Brian Brown or doing both. And get his opinion of How do you switch so quickly from this big heavy? Are NASCAR truck to this wide open, You know, open wheel spread cars so that the mix of events is going to be really cool. I'm glad that the schedule worked out that way. Because Sprint car fans are going to get a great taste of NASCAR and NASCAR fans are going to get a great taste of Sprint car racing. All right. I promised you would go there. Uh, well, wait with with this event and in our NASCAR and our motor racing network, our our world. NASCAR is the what we spend most of our time doing. But we also have wing nation here at Motor Racing Network. And we all understand that while the trucks and the cop in the Xfinity cars are great, there is no event on the planet. Like the Knoxville Nationals. It's the 60th running of the Norse energy drink. Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey's General story and the August Kendra and Just sell are NASCAR fans on why they need to come to this. I mean, the Knoxville Nationals are a massive festival centered around racing. So one of the things we really tried to point out is it's not just a race. It's an event and it isn't all day long, everyday events. Those four days, which now have turned into eight days. 10 days, 14 days people come out for We have something to do to entertain you to entertain your kids to entertain your parents. If there there there is something for every age group to do all day long, and I think the greatest feeling about nationals that it's kind of a family reunion. Type feel. These are your best friends that share your same passion. And you might only see them that one week of of the year and you can't wait till that countdown. So everything kicks off the night before with a big Knoxville. Welcome to Nostril party at our little you know, our little bar across the street Dingus, So everybody kind of gathers there and it's just full go from that point. I mean from from yoga on the Bryan Clauson Suite Tower roof in the mornings until the post race parties and three and four that go to six a.m.. It is a nonstop party. And beyond that it is the greatest sprint car racing. You will see all year long every lap on the track counts because of our point system, so it is tension. You can cut the stress like with knife. It's you see it in the driver's faces. And you know, this is the biggest week of the year. And this is what they've worked for their whole career. So It's fun for me that I get to play a part in that, and the biggest reward is having fans leave happy. So hopefully on August 15th When everyone stumbling to their cars to leave, they're all leaving with smiles. That's all I can hope for. I'm sold. I'm sold. I can't wait to get out there. August 11th through the 14th at Knoxville first this weekend, the truck series the corn about 1 50 presented by the.

NASCAR: 2019 Monster Energy Cup Guide

"Has been an entertaining eight races so far in the twenty one thousand nine Monster Energy Nascar Cup series playoffs. Two races to go and Phoenix plays host to the final cut off race of the year. All the drivers. Those six that we mentioned are gonNA make last last ditch efforts to make the championship race at homestead. And Moran's Woody Canes D Post and Alex Hayden are here to recap the Texas weekend and how it impacts what we'll see in the cup series this weekend in Phoenix Okay mic. Well Steve Post is here from pit road for the motor racing network. Alex Hayden is here from the booth for the motor racing network. And we're you're talking playoffs playoffs boys here. We go so after Texas things kind of got a little weirder than we expected we roll in now with two who guys locked in Kevin Harvick. Who by the way has won three straight fall raises at Texas Martin tricks junior got locked in the week before? Then you get down to the best of arrest Category Kyle Busch twenty two points to the Good Joey Logano twenty points to the Good Denny Hamlin now twenty points. Underline Blaney and Larson Twenty three points joints under the line and Chase Elliott way back seventy eight points behind the line. Let's start off with denny and Chase Steve. It wasn't a week ago that most people a lot of people were going Denny Hamlin. This really might be as year. He seems like he's peaking at the right time. One of those people was me I was I was just convinced. A one of the challenges and I think one of the challenges we've seen with Denny. Alex all up jumped out at upper case. Because you know any better than all of us denny is a the great race car driver extremely talented but one of the challenges. He's always had his in this playoffs and incomplete honesty. The question has always been his his his mental toughness. Okay and and I know a couple years ago. He lost a championship and it was like the wheels fell off from him. The wheels fell off from everything else. It didn't look like we had any of that now and it's still like the mental toughness. Is there it was just mechanical stuff. And things like that but Alex when we look at Denny. He appears on the outside that he's got everything in his life buttoned. The upper everything focused on it but right now he's got some ground to make up he does. And you know it's crazy because I'm trying to think back and I have been for about a week now for crying out out loud. Have we ever had. A playoff warner was had more twists and turns and that was just one driver but with multiple drivers. You're right what he won't get any Hamlin was the guy to beat and a lot of people already saying you know what. He's the favourite to win this twenty nineteen championship but after what we saw Texas. I think it's just a piece of humble pie. Hi for everybody that reminds us in this. Anything can usually does happen. If that unpredictable. Every single lap actually matters it's in for Denny Hamlin to to come out and have such a solid bid stage of the playoffs to have some drama now and find himself on the outside looking being in Steve to your point mental toughness. It's GonNa come into play so Dinnie at attract a one mile race track at his first Ever Cup series. Poll was right here. Sure At at at I s raceway Phoenix. Where we're going this weekend? He's got a little bit of history here he's got a little bit of comfort zone. Here doesn't matter where the start finish line is now the delay out of this race. Track is exactly the same as it's always been so denny Hamlin's gotta dig deep and he's gotta find that mental toughness right now and I think one of the things he can rest comfortably on which is really strange. Is that a week ago. He was in the same spot. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano were pretty pretty comfortable on points. And I think Denny's got a bank on. Well look what happened to me and maybe can happen one of those guys to and You know but but the reality of it is twenty points. Sounds like a lot but someone has a problem in a stage. Denting wins the stage. She's cut that in half forty point swing at forty exactly and I think that would be needs to look at. He had a forty point swing in Texas one of those guys in front. All of them could have a forty point swing and Phoenix. All right you guys were talking about the crazy. Let's get to the other half of that. Chase Elliott a playoff win to blown motors a broken axle and and a crash. Alex has anybody had crazier playoff stretch. Then Chase Elliott no next and I hate to laugh and I hate to make light of it because I mean tastes in that race. Doing all they can but they can't control mechanical failures and that to me is what separates nascar racing from other stick and ball sports. Yeah you need team effort unless it's a golf or or tennis or something of that nature but in racing you gotTa have the team you gotTa have the driver talent and the ability but you also better have some some hope. That lady looks going to be on your side because there are thousands of moving mechanical manacle parts. We're dealing with machines and sometimes things break. It doesn't matter how well they're built pieces of metal will break sometimes and chase Elliott's learning Dan. He's learning it the hard way but that doesn't mean he's out to me. That's kind of the beauty of the way we do things in nascar racing determine our champion you basically got three strikes strikes well he. He's used to be swings already. But that doesn't mean he won't hit a home run on the third pitch right so for Chase Elliott and his fans don't were you got one last shot at it come IFM raceway but boy. Oh boy he's GONNA I don't have to hit the baseball heart. He's going to have to hit it I long way. Here's crazy. Crazy to the guy crashed at the rover. And once that's my that was my thought. And after that role he he crashed anyone the race and I said this guy has momentum desk game set match. This is going to be spectacular to watch how good chase Elliott is the one thing and I chatted with chase I think it was Talladega. And he said the one thing about when you're you're behind his you know what you have to do. They go there when they roll that car off the truck into that garage area. They're going. They're just for they're not staged pointing. They're not doing this. They're not doing now. Alan Gustafson and chase Elliott know that they need to be in the lead on lap three twelve or whenever we throw the checkered flag and that's the only goal and so there is a degree agree that that does define a little bit closer what they need to do. Where when you look at the other guys? They're all within twenty three points. They could be in the middle of that race running calculators others and doing math because one of them had a bad stage or something chase Elliott. It's simple for him going to go on. Dia some woody. Let's talk about. Sim raceway specifically. You mentioned any Hamlin in his comfort level there Alex one of the things he said over the weekend I thought was really interesting. It is still the same race track. But with the way restarts there are now with the new positioning at the start. Finish line. oftentimes you're starting restarting in the turn itself. And then you're fanning out five six wide before you gotta funnel it back down again. That's going to add to the whole level of crazy there. It absolutely is and when you look at the the last handful of races that I assume raceway in Phoenix. We've had a lot of long green flag run so those restarts at the conclusion of the stages or any caution flags for that matter They're going to be absolute chaos. So I love okay. The the thinking is here because if you have the chance to be a part of the championship four on points you're going to be awfully nervous when those restarts come around if you're chase L. E.. You got nothing to lose your relaxed. Go get it but you gotta be careful all the way around this place because if you get into the fence racing a little too aggressively or balance off of another car and have time maybe cut a tire down. If you have to make an unscheduled green flag pit stop. It doesn't matter if you need points or if you need a win the bottom bottom line is chances are your race is going to be over. So there's GonNa be some puckered up race car drivers on restarts remember because nobody nobody wants to be the guy that drops lug nut on the four tire change or can't get the car review order. Have the Jack Fall off out from underneath the Jack Peg on the side of the car. Little little tiny mistakes can absolutely not happen if you're one of the championship contenders all right. Mike there you go alex and Stephen. I've just solve all the world's problems now we'll just have have to wait and see how it plays out this

Blaney, Keselowski, Logano detail Roger Penske's Hall of Fame pursuit of perfection

"You would be hard pressed to find anyone more respected in the garage area than Roger Penske says competitor and friend Rick Hendrick of Hendrick motorsports. As one of my best friends, I have nothing but respect for him what he's accomplished is unbelievable role. It's unbelievable to see someone that can win and Formula one and and open wheel and and went all the championships. And do the things he thought I don't know how he doesn't. He's a perfectionist. Then as again, I I admire him in. Poll them in the high regard the motor racing network. Congratulates the newest member of the NASCAR hall of fame Roger Penske. All three of Roger Penske's Cup series drivers drove to victory lane in two thousand eighteen and one of those drove to a championship Joey Logano in its tenth full time season in the Cup series is going to win the two thousand eighteen zero man, I honestly, I I would have thought he'd been inducted into the hall of fame along before this after seeing what he's given to our sport into our community. You know, I think it's one of the best kept secrets in our sport. Sometimes you forget when you watch these videos of all the race ones. You forget that he built a lottery strikes. You forget that you know, his whole businesses built them on racing. You know, he's here we had our fiftieth anniversary of NBN racing years ago. Now, you know, so what a great honor for him to to be able to to be inducted into. You know, what is the biggest award? You can get in our sports. So I'm so excited to be there. Into watch it and to be part of that. And it couldn't come at a better time after you win a championship. And then you cap it off with being inducted into the NASCAR hall of famers is that it's well deserved for a man that has a big heart. But also won't you won't ever.
