I don't know why, but mechanics where is just a few miles from my house. Big, massive building. I mean, just huge. I think rowdy dragon live out that way, too. I think he lives in the Sonoma area. He's gotten it back on the track, but he's lost a lot of sport of spots. And I would be concerned about the splitter that Doug Indeed, once he got into the grass after the trip through the gravel trap, I'd take that a step further. "Jimmy Johnson. It's throwback weekend here, Chase Elliott driving a car, a throwback to his teammate, seven time Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson, on the other hand, has thrown it back, and he's done it in a big way. Representing Richard Petty and Dale Sr and Winston Kelly. Not only is the race car a dual scheme for Jimmy Johnson out here between the King and the Intimidator, but When he arrived on pit lane earlier this afternoon. It was a dual scheme as well in person. Anybody knows anything about Jimmy Johnson? I know he does everything with class and if you weren't with us at the top of the broadcast As he walks down pit road. All the drivers need to bring their own helmets and other years and Jimmy's been bringing this suitcase and he walks down pit road. He has a cowboy hat. It's one of the Charlie one horse hands that Richard Petty gave the entire field when he was celebrating 50 years and racing back in 2008 at Chicago Land. He was also able to find a pair of gargoyle sunglasses from one of the Earnhardt relatives, Dale Jr and Kelly putting in touch with him, and it's actually a pair that they are Dale Sr war, So they had a Richard Petty Cowboy hat bail. Earnhardt Sr gargoyles coming down pit road far down the side is black, like Dale Earnhardt seniors. Good drinks car with 48 the numbers in the same thoughts as good Chevrolet, with that angle back, and then the 43 on the top with the SDP Red and the Penny Blue and 217 time champion honoring two other seven time champion. And when I think about Jimmy Johnson in class I think about how he handled last weekend. He just barely missed the playoffs by six points. He didn't bring up the fact that they were disqualified with a second place finish in Charlotte. He didn't bring up what happened here. Darlington when he made a mistake, he didn't bring up missing a race for coping. He didn't bring up that he got brought into an accident, not of his making. So Jimmy Johnson. Always class. Why missed the playoffs? It would certainly be interesting to see if he broke a tile with Cale Yarborough, Todd, Darrell Waltrip and body Alison for four on the all time list with 84 wins here tonight that is the director of the executive director of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and member of the Motor Racing Network Crew. Winston Kelly on seven time Jimmy Johnson, who is second. Behind Martin Trucks junior, and when you look at the crown jewel opportunities, Alex Satan, he's been there and done that. Ah lot. There's just three laps to go here in stage number one of the cookout Southern 500 Martin Tricks Jr. He's the race leader. He exits Turn two and heads for the Boeing backstretch. They come now off turn number two. You've got Martin Truex Jr entering the quarter Jimmy Johnson while in hot pursuit, not pressed to really overextend the far There are three cars between the two and two laps remaining in stage number two. Across the line comes Martin Truex Jr. Right behind Jimmie Johnson and Chase Elliott Hamlin and Kurt Busch been a very impressive second state for empty day. Just kind of put the rest of the field at arm's length, and he's got a big lead as he heads for three. This's not the first time we've seen that a Martin Truex Jr. He knows how to get around this racetrack, and he knows the skill set that it needs. And right now it's on full display on turnover for Jimmy Johnson. Now, just trying to keep pace with the race leader Flash by the start finish line race leader Martin Truex Jr. One lap to go on stage number one. "As we head to the hotline and bring in for the third time a winner in the NASCAR. I racing pro invitational series most recently at Dover International Speedway William Byron is back on NASCAR. Live where you're welcome back. Congratulations yet again. My friend thanks for having me hit. Get good back in good to get to keep it going so I had a lot of fun in the Irish that we did and Definitely enjoyed how how it turned out. Of course you leads seventy nine laps in that entire race. It was a good showing there. You know one thing I've been asking about the nuances of every track that you race. On compared to Real Life. I've done a lie racing on Dover. It's a handful. Is it a virtual handful compared to the real handful? I know there are things that are obviously different. But what's what's I racing over like compared to real life It is it honestly just about kind of the same thing that you always Battle in the real card air is kind of the turn keeping the turning the cars run goes on and kind of keep in good exits to the corner is really important and also the walk up really quickly at Dover so Making sure that you're able to act the corner without hitting the wall is key so Yeah those things are are all Kinda critical into virtual car and the real car You know in the way that she is the gas in the break. Similar on Irish into so I it's honestly it'd definitely very very similar in those aspects. You talked about the return to racing which we got word last week William that. It's coming up at Darlington raceway. I guess that would be what a week from Sunday. We'll run a four hundred miler there. What all will you do to get prepared for that? Return at Darlington. Well honestly Just really kind of physically preparing. I think that's GonNa be key It's going to be critical to have yourself in good shape. I think the other thing is just the mental aspect and trying to do something that relates. They're driving a real race car. You know whether that's the karting track or just you know in something that has you know an engine and and Kinda feel so. It's GONNA be tough. You know no practice. But I know that you know we're the best drivers and and we can figure it out and and Get acclimated 'cause possible can be key Throughout the race just to to get going one of the interesting things is that you talk about. No practice no qualifying. You know you guys used to have a a built in rubber upper. I guess you could call it in the xfinity series. When they would run on Saturday they would help get some rubber into the racetrack. It and it wouldn't be as Abrasive for you on Sunday on race day. But you're not going to have that. How do you anticipate the first stretch of that race? Going and making adjustments to the car to get it right for the long haul over the course of the four hundred miles. GonNa make up your crew chief. We're GONNA have their hands full with adjustment and and really kind of figuring out what to do with the car. After the first run is going to be critical. The driver just kind of tell them what to do. And in what direction You know that we think the track is GonNa go so Interesting to see how it goes. I think the first pitstop will kind of be a chance for everyone to come down and and service their cars and and make some adjustments NASCAR last week boom put out a protocol for our return to Darlington and they said it could be tweaked. Obviously when we come back to Darlington and then going to Charlotte there in the next handful of days. It's pretty comprehensive plan about what needs to be done and also I'm sure that there similar protocols in place and Hendrick motorsports what do you have to do as far as when you pop up to the race track. How do you think this will be different? Compared to the last time you wrote onto the property at Darlington last Labor Day weekend just going to be. It's going to be much different without having fans and and everything that you sue and the environment around the racetrack like we're used to but I'm looking forward to what you know. Just being out on the track and being focused and and be with my team so It's going to be a much different environment especially going straight from from really you know the rental car the motor home or whatever to the to the race so I'm just KINDA GONNA adjust on the fly. But hopefully the first one goes smoothly and then we can start to roll into to the weekly races and and And Really Kinda get into a rhythm of it. I GOING TO SAY Cup Races. In eleven days we got some mid week races. You looking forward to seeing NASCAR in. Tv's and on the radio and hearing them on the radios in the middle of the week with xfinity series in the truck series. Pretty aggressive return scheduled. That's coming up. I am looking forward to that. I think there's GonNa be a lot of racing and I'm kind of excited about seeing it myself as a fan but also doing it as the driver so I'm I'm really looking forward to seeing how it how it plays out and we are as well and of course you know you'll hear the races here on motor racing network and also the performance racing network for those races coming up at Charlotte Motor speedway one more thing real quick before we let you go. Did you get faked out? When we got the news last week your crew chief had joined twitter. He seemed to or whoever made that account seemed to have a. Lotta people riled up there. Finally Chad Canal was on twitter. Yeah that was funny. That was My my friend texted me and said Hey I think Chaz on twitter and He was convinced because of all the people following him and I was like I don't I don't think so and eventually eventually came out that it wasn't him so I I was going to be surprised if it was him It didn't sound like him. So it was. It was funny was and we appreciate you joining us. William can't wait to see back on the drag. That twenty four is good in real life as it has been in the virtual world lookout. Everybody I appreciate it. Thanks for having me thank you. That's William Byron more coming up here on. Nascar live as the first official VODKA NASCAR. Ditsy vodka brings southern flavor to every turn our ingredients come from small and big cities and proudly.

NASCAR: 2019 Monster Energy Cup Guide
"Has been an entertaining eight races so far in the twenty one thousand nine Monster Energy Nascar Cup series playoffs. Two races to go and Phoenix plays host to the final cut off race of the year. All the drivers. Those six that we mentioned are gonNA make last last ditch efforts to make the championship race at homestead. And Moran's Woody Canes D Post and Alex Hayden are here to recap the Texas weekend and how it impacts what we'll see in the cup series this weekend in Phoenix Okay mic. Well Steve Post is here from pit road for the motor racing network. Alex Hayden is here from the booth for the motor racing network. And we're you're talking playoffs playoffs boys here. We go so after Texas things kind of got a little weirder than we expected we roll in now with two who guys locked in Kevin Harvick. Who by the way has won three straight fall raises at Texas Martin tricks junior got locked in the week before? Then you get down to the best of arrest Category Kyle Busch twenty two points to the Good Joey Logano twenty points to the Good Denny Hamlin now twenty points. Underline Blaney and Larson Twenty three points joints under the line and Chase Elliott way back seventy eight points behind the line. Let's start off with denny and Chase Steve. It wasn't a week ago that most people a lot of people were going Denny Hamlin. This really might be as year. He seems like he's peaking at the right time. One of those people was me I was I was just convinced. A one of the challenges and I think one of the challenges we've seen with Denny. Alex all up jumped out at upper case. Because you know any better than all of us denny is a the great race car driver extremely talented but one of the challenges. He's always had his in this playoffs and incomplete honesty. The question has always been his his his mental toughness. Okay and and I know a couple years ago. He lost a championship and it was like the wheels fell off from him. The wheels fell off from everything else. It didn't look like we had any of that now and it's still like the mental toughness. Is there it was just mechanical stuff. And things like that but Alex when we look at Denny. He appears on the outside that he's got everything in his life buttoned. The upper everything focused on it but right now he's got some ground to make up he does. And you know it's crazy because I'm trying to think back and I have been for about a week now for crying out out loud. Have we ever had. A playoff warner was had more twists and turns and that was just one driver but with multiple drivers. You're right what he won't get any Hamlin was the guy to beat and a lot of people already saying you know what. He's the favourite to win this twenty nineteen championship but after what we saw Texas. I think it's just a piece of humble pie. Hi for everybody that reminds us in this. Anything can usually does happen. If that unpredictable. Every single lap actually matters it's in for Denny Hamlin to to come out and have such a solid bid stage of the playoffs to have some drama now and find himself on the outside looking being in Steve to your point mental toughness. It's GonNa come into play so Dinnie at attract a one mile race track at his first Ever Cup series. Poll was right here. Sure At at at I s raceway Phoenix. Where we're going this weekend? He's got a little bit of history here he's got a little bit of comfort zone. Here doesn't matter where the start finish line is now the delay out of this race. Track is exactly the same as it's always been so denny Hamlin's gotta dig deep and he's gotta find that mental toughness right now and I think one of the things he can rest comfortably on which is really strange. Is that a week ago. He was in the same spot. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano were pretty pretty comfortable on points. And I think Denny's got a bank on. Well look what happened to me and maybe can happen one of those guys to and You know but but the reality of it is twenty points. Sounds like a lot but someone has a problem in a stage. Denting wins the stage. She's cut that in half forty point swing at forty exactly and I think that would be needs to look at. He had a forty point swing in Texas one of those guys in front. All of them could have a forty point swing and Phoenix. All right you guys were talking about the crazy. Let's get to the other half of that. Chase Elliott a playoff win to blown motors a broken axle and and a crash. Alex has anybody had crazier playoff stretch. Then Chase Elliott no next and I hate to laugh and I hate to make light of it because I mean tastes in that race. Doing all they can but they can't control mechanical failures and that to me is what separates nascar racing from other stick and ball sports. Yeah you need team effort unless it's a golf or or tennis or something of that nature but in racing you gotTa have the team you gotTa have the driver talent and the ability but you also better have some some hope. That lady looks going to be on your side because there are thousands of moving mechanical manacle parts. We're dealing with machines and sometimes things break. It doesn't matter how well they're built pieces of metal will break sometimes and chase Elliott's learning Dan. He's learning it the hard way but that doesn't mean he's out to me. That's kind of the beauty of the way we do things in nascar racing determine our champion you basically got three strikes strikes well he. He's used to be swings already. But that doesn't mean he won't hit a home run on the third pitch right so for Chase Elliott and his fans don't were you got one last shot at it come IFM raceway but boy. Oh boy he's GONNA I don't have to hit the baseball heart. He's going to have to hit it I long way. Here's crazy. Crazy to the guy crashed at the rover. And once that's my that was my thought. And after that role he he crashed anyone the race and I said this guy has momentum desk game set match. This is going to be spectacular to watch how good chase Elliott is the one thing and I chatted with chase I think it was Talladega. And he said the one thing about when you're you're behind his you know what you have to do. They go there when they roll that car off the truck into that garage area. They're going. They're just for they're not staged pointing. They're not doing this. They're not doing now. Alan Gustafson and chase Elliott know that they need to be in the lead on lap three twelve or whenever we throw the checkered flag and that's the only goal and so there is a degree agree that that does define a little bit closer what they need to do. Where when you look at the other guys? They're all within twenty three points. They could be in the middle of that race running calculators others and doing math because one of them had a bad stage or something chase Elliott. It's simple for him going to go on. Dia some woody. Let's talk about. Sim raceway specifically. You mentioned any Hamlin in his comfort level there Alex one of the things he said over the weekend I thought was really interesting. It is still the same race track. But with the way restarts there are now with the new positioning at the start. Finish line. oftentimes you're starting restarting in the turn itself. And then you're fanning out five six wide before you gotta funnel it back down again. That's going to add to the whole level of crazy there. It absolutely is and when you look at the the last handful of races that I assume raceway in Phoenix. We've had a lot of long green flag run so those restarts at the conclusion of the stages or any caution flags for that matter They're going to be absolute chaos. So I love okay. The the thinking is here because if you have the chance to be a part of the championship four on points you're going to be awfully nervous when those restarts come around if you're chase L. E.. You got nothing to lose your relaxed. Go get it but you gotta be careful all the way around this place because if you get into the fence racing a little too aggressively or balance off of another car and have time maybe cut a tire down. If you have to make an unscheduled green flag pit stop. It doesn't matter if you need points or if you need a win the bottom bottom line is chances are your race is going to be over. So there's GonNa be some puckered up race car drivers on restarts remember because nobody nobody wants to be the guy that drops lug nut on the four tire change or can't get the car review order. Have the Jack Fall off out from underneath the Jack Peg on the side of the car. Little little tiny mistakes can absolutely not happen if you're one of the championship contenders all right. Mike there you go alex and Stephen. I've just solve all the world's problems now we'll just have have to wait and see how it plays out this
Blaney, Keselowski, Logano detail Roger Penske's Hall of Fame pursuit of perfection
"You would be hard pressed to find anyone more respected in the garage area than Roger Penske says competitor and friend Rick Hendrick of Hendrick motorsports. As one of my best friends, I have nothing but respect for him what he's accomplished is unbelievable role. It's unbelievable to see someone that can win and Formula one and and open wheel and and went all the championships. And do the things he thought I don't know how he doesn't. He's a perfectionist. Then as again, I I admire him in. Poll them in the high regard the motor racing network. Congratulates the newest member of the NASCAR hall of fame Roger Penske. All three of Roger Penske's Cup series drivers drove to victory lane in two thousand eighteen and one of those drove to a championship Joey Logano in its tenth full time season in the Cup series is going to win the two thousand eighteen zero man, I honestly, I I would have thought he'd been inducted into the hall of fame along before this after seeing what he's given to our sport into our community. You know, I think it's one of the best kept secrets in our sport. Sometimes you forget when you watch these videos of all the race ones. You forget that he built a lottery strikes. You forget that you know, his whole businesses built them on racing. You know, he's here we had our fiftieth anniversary of NBN racing years ago. Now, you know, so what a great honor for him to to be able to to be inducted into. You know, what is the biggest award? You can get in our sports. So I'm so excited to be there. Into watch it and to be part of that. And it couldn't come at a better time after you win a championship. And then you cap it off with being inducted into the NASCAR hall of famers is that it's well deserved for a man that has a big heart. But also won't you won't ever.
