Dr Every morning my dad would listen to the radio side note and it was always the the deputy owners Asia back to the side note is I've started to repeat that by listen to a can show call the stands berry show every morning from the moment I wake up to the moment they go off the air and then I listen to the podcast but one of the main hosts has had Kim down with cancer. He's as this recording still alive but I didn't know when he was going to go and I wanted to meet meet him. One more time met him like a bunch when I was a kid like he when he doesn't remember any of those because he's been around radio longtime met a lot of people done a lot of stuff that I I wasn't going to stick in his brain while they started up like a gofundme before it and I like I shared it and put a heartfelt message of how much he meant to me growing up and the end up having a special fundraiser at a local comedy club and he was going to be there so I went had a great time and then afterwards I introduced himself myself to him wasn't sure if he was gonNA remember who I was and I kind of said like I posted Babo Bah and he was like justed and I'm like yeah and I got to share with him to his face at what she meant to me and it's like why do stuff like this because I listened to him. Every morning and I remember calling my mom said after everything was we work things out and I told him like yeah. I you know I talked to stay on and I told him about all this stuff in the she loved hearing hearing it. This is like how I know to get through my life as podcasting so I am doing with heavy I got episodes. I WanNa do but I knew I had to sit down and just collect my thoughts on my mother with me not being the executor of the state in beneficiary whenever I now worry about the stuff that was in her apartment because their stuff there that I want not necessarily stuff of value of monetary value but a sentimental value the she had a a blanket that I had for mother's Day side note. That's another thing that I've realized it's going to be tough mother's Day this year but one here I bought her a blanket that I had made of our dog cocoa aid chocolate the French poodle since since that mother's Day we had to put him down like five years ago five years to the month to believe he was put down in February but I had that blankets and that's something I want I want Ah Coco's ashes their stuff that I know from like Christmas trees that I want. I want like some certain silverware but I want like certain cups that I know that she had that were technically mind. There's a bunch of novus technically mind that she liked took my grandma Summers Bible. I know as there and I want it. I don't know how all this is going to work out especially with my. I don't know what my father is going to do in the pitcher. Maybe I shouldn't have had said what I said it. Maybe he won't give me anything now now. I want something to remember her by just went to my storage unit that we have here our apartment complex. I pulled out a bunch of like I C P stuff that I I I had there and one thing I pulled out was a amiss peaky doll. It was like McDonald's thing. The Christmas Miss Piggy if you've seen her you know what I'm talking about. I don't remember what the Kermit look like but I remember the Fauzi bear one. It was my my aunts and it's like one of those things that I kinda WanNa. Keep because that's who reminds me of I of other stuff that's somewhere 'cause I've done too much fuck and moving in the past like five years I had jewelry of my grandma summers and my hi. My aunt thinks that I don't know I don't know where their APP but I like helped me remember them by and keep a piece of them close and I think with my mother I mean you only have one mother and I don't speak to my father and have tried. I've really we tried with him. We had a year. We didn't speak like after he moved out there was about a year we did not speak to each other because I was pissed at him for what he did. I sucked it up and called him and we men the fence. He hasn't done the same thing and that's kind of annoys me back to my mom though I kind of imagine when my mother tied make it's hard to imagine in the room because like I said I don't know how she was sitting there laying there I don't I don't know if it was an instantaneous or what it reminded mind me too much of Chris Farley and that's the vision I have in my head because I've seen the photos of what he looked like when they found him and that's what I think with her but I just pitcher. I don't care what you're fucking. Political belief is but I'm go with mine and my mother's I imagine when she got to heaven that was there and they hugged each other. Maybe both of my grandmother's were there. I don't think my grandfather was there but both abon fly grandmothers were there. They were happy to see each other. I feel like with death. I'm fairly strong. I don't hold onto it. As much as I know other people do because I expect it. I've had this conversation with Amanda. I was born into a family that was missing Krant parent immediately so so I knew that people were going to die. I knew eventually all of my grandparents weren't going to tie. I cried for them. All but I moved on Amanda has a harder problem with that and that's the other thing she she had her last grandparent pass away last month in January and here. I am a month later having to deal with my mother dying. It's set a lot but it's definitely one of those things. Were life is not fair. My Grandmother Mother Thompson dying at Sixty Eight. My mother dying in her sixties. I worry about my health and that's one of the reasons I have to get back on the right track. I don't WanNa be like them. I don't want to be like my mother. I WanNa be pat her. I WANNA live. I have to take responsibility of things. I knew that he was coming. I thought that that what what the call was going to be when it came over or came through but hearing it was Roth I will forever of my mother for all <unk> instilled in me. I know she had a pat side. I've with decision. I've been the victim of it but I know so many times she was the one that had the heart of cold and she caught it from my grandmother Mothers Summers I know she did yes not biologically just being around my grandmother. She was a good soul upset. She never got to experience the Choi feeing wedding or being around by crank or grandkids my children so many times. She asked me hit hindsight. I don't want our I wouldn't want to have any kids with any of my ex girlfriends. I'm happy they're all out of my life but to give my mother joy this definitely what moments definitely being right where she would be a nursing she would probably be living right now. She would have the potential of being at my wedding human even if it's in a wheelchair I don't know what do going forward will always try hard and try to be more positive. I know this Sunday. I'M GONNA try to go to church her church. It'll be the last time I have reduced so but I WANNA do one more time for her. At this point. This is just become Rim Lincoln. I'm sorry I'll try to gather my composure to end this show. If you've made created through this whole podcast through me just turning on my mic and talking about my mother I want to thank you. It's not good that I don't remember what year my mother was born. I could tell you the month in the day. I can't tell the year like my dad. I can tell you his month..
"mother thompson" Discussed on Xtra Sports Radio 1300 AM
"This is after hours with Amy Lawrence quite an eventful week for the Toronto Raptors how you feel and about this team is now at forty wins. Same number of wins as the Milwaukee Bucks, and they get this big comeback in Atlanta for another victory on the same day that they secure Marcus Saul as a member of their franchise moving forward. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio and on the Toronto radio network. You get both Siaka and Fred vanfleet who set career highs pretty impressive again. It's a busy week but everybody chipping in so Siachen with a career high thirty three vanfleet a career best thirty and they're one of the big two of the big reasons why the raptors rallied after they were down nearly twenty in the first half. And then they find out about Marcus all said power, then they find out about Ghazal that to be. Safe. And this is this is a bitter sweet deal for longtime fans of the NBA specifically, those of the Memphis grizzlies because Gosol was one of the cornerstone pieces there, and he and Mike Conley. Even going back to the trio is that Randolph who of course, his long moved on. But, but they were the reason why fans showed up, and they were the the all stars for the grizzlies and now to here. Mike Conley talk about how different it is. It's just it's foreign to show up in the locker room or to be in the huddle, and there's no Markelle Saul. But as you can imagine from Toronto perspective to add an all star with his kind of experience. And of course, his his bulk and his skill in the paint is impressive. So messiah Jerry who is the Toronto general manager was speaking about adding Ghazal before the NBA trade deadline. Marcus, oh phenomenal player and. Real. Think a winner. Hopefully can come on. Make an impact I've talked to Mark is really excited to be here. And. This is my think exciting for us going forward as we move to try to. All of us rights Cheever dream of contending for for a championship in the NBA. And we hope that's how a goal, and I think everybody on the team understands that. So. Well, we'll keep trying to achieve this goal. Messiah you Jerry who's the general manager of the raptors? And if you think about the players that are in that locker room now, there are veterans who have been denied the opportunity to win an NBA title who've played in the postseason though, obviously Kawhi Leonard and Danny green both have rings. And so they've been to the pinnacle of the sport, and they bring that to the table, but Marcus Saul as well as a Kyle Lowry and even guys like we just talked about and Fred vanfleet with a few years under their belt. You would expect that there would be leadership in that locker room and. They've changed a lot right? They changed a bunch of pieces. No, more demar derozan. Obviously, they changed the head coach to start the season and went with Nick nurse until they did make some changes to try to impact the culture after three consecutive playoff exit at the hands of the Cavaliers and most recently being swept the way that they were last season was just painful. I mean, it was a whimper. It wasn't even going down with a fight. It was just a whimper at a depth to the raptors something had to change. And so they've made these moves now, maybe come back stronger. And I know there's a lot of you who will not believe it until you see it. But certainly first year head coach Nick nurse has a lot to work with even now adding to Saul there's a lot of positives with a guy like Ghazal, right? And I think most of them come with with being battle tested. Right. I think I think we all know that that those playoffs can get wild and woolly, and he's a guy that's been through them. Deep many times. I like the way that the top of the Eastern Conference is shaping up because right now you've got two teams with forty wins. The Sixers are in there. They traded for Tobias Harris and obviously got Jimmy Butler earlier in the season the Boston Celtics if they can keep kyri healthy. And I know they lost at the buzzer to resign Rondo and the Lakers, but still a team with a bunch of playoff experience. Milwaukee added Nico mirror attached from the pelicans. So not the player that you expected to move from the pelicans are thought might but Nico while he doesn't bring the same kind of experience to the table. As does a Marcus all is obviously a guy who's busily a couple of years. And I think the versatility he's gotten better he's gotten stronger as a player in these last couple of years. So can add to excuse me. I don't know why the hiccups they come at the weirdest times. And only five year olds have hiccups in here. I am. I'm not five and I get hiccups. But Nico mirrored touchdown the last I'm not allergic to you. It's after hours on CBS sports radio. We'll get back to your phone calls here. And we'll we'll get to Las Vegas for our next call. But as we're talking about Frank Robinson and and remembering his legacy and then thinking back to previous errors of baseball. And. Jackson Jackson pose that with the idea of these ten years three hundred million dollar contracts, which may or may not happen. Chris found this fantastic TBT. So we do we didn't NFL TBT all the way through the season on Thursdays. And now, of course, it's not football anymore. So we're doing just a plain old sports TV T. But how about this going back to February of nineteen forty nine? Joe DiMaggio became the first one hundred thousand dollar a year player for the Yankees. So nineteen forty nine here. We are obviously seventy years down the road in February of two thousand nineteen but Joe DiMaggio. Seventy years ago. Was baseball's first one hundred thousand dollar man, not one million dollar, man. Not two hundred million dollar, man. Nope. That would come later. I one hundred thousand dollar a year baseball player for shoulder monies? I bet he didn't. Say that but still at the time in the forties. That was incredible. Now, I wonder if he could strangle a mountain lion with his bare hands. That's all I need to know. Hey, Brian, you missed are very entertaining conversation, Chris actually has a plan for putting an outline in a headlock should he ever encounter one while running? I don't think that's going to happen. Dave, and I are going to be screaming and picking up sticks and rocks. And whatever it is that we can do do you have a plan for fighting off an eighty pound mountain lions should it ever be required. Our weapons allowed. Well, are you running with a weapon if I have if I know I can bring them up into the fight. Did you not hear the story man was running in Colorado, and he's out in the Senate credible area? It's wilderness, and this eighty pound notes juvenile mount lines all got little eager got look sighted and attacked the guy. And so he's got bite marks on his what was it? No head and rest writer, neck and wrist, and he ends up. It's either him or the lion. Somebody's going down. And so he strangles said mountain lion. And somehow gets out of there and get to the hospital. I wouldn't want to kill the animal. But I guess I'd have to go that route was going to say if it's either you or the animal we feel the same way me, David Gilford. In my life of killing the animal. Well, you'd be dead if he's juvenile though. Yeah. It's a kid. It was like a teenage mountain lines past teenage years. Oh, yes. You're all of Twenty-one yourself our pasture. Wait, are you twenty two? Now, are you twenty still Twenty-one fill twenty one? Okay. So you're a juvenile as well in a manner of speaking you the mountain lion. Have a lot in common. Eight five five two one two four two two seven. It was important conversation to have with the people that you love. What would you do if you've got attacked by a mountain lion? We need to be prepared Sunday is listening in Las Vegas is that you're given name. No. Go ahead. No, you you called you. Go ahead. Okay. First of all, I love your laugh. No party not on purpose. I was at the game were Frank Robinson his first home, right? Yeah. Yeah. It was. It's a cloud with nuts. I remember by home plate. I had great seats. Where was. In cleveland. Okay. And. Well, Terry was on our team to their year and get a log a jaywalking aided. H he aided spread. So he. Gingrich. Papers the next day that he marched in the office. We said he wanted to be a dollar mortgage. Frank. I mean, egos were even operational back. Then just because they didn't get paid nearly as much money doesn't mean that they didn't have the giant egos to go along with their careers. So that's a cool memory though. I mean, sometimes I feel like I missed the golden era of major league baseball. And I wish I could go back and see guys like DiMaggio and Ruth and on and on and on even Ted Williams. Frank robinson. These are not players that I ever saw other than in videos, and so I I wish that I had seen some of the greats hit home runs and run the bases. Casey, one more thing real quick. Sure. You don't sandy Koufax was my idol. And I remember in sixty three. He's going to be the World Series afternoons, so. His daddy. Those time to get up for school. I'm not getting up. So my mother Thompson new bedroom. Well, before that was like fifteen fifteen seconds. Go ahead. Eighty rows room. I guess way for you to get war. My bedroom says are you your war? We'd better stay home from school. He added each Colfax strikeouts. Fifteen years. That's awesome. That's a good memory. And I'm glad that your mom contributed to it. So that you can. So that you can remember that as a young kid. Thank you so much. I'm sorry. We have to let you go because we are up against the top of the hours that money indicates that money that money music indicates by the way in today's economic economy to measure will be worth one point seven.
