"It's merriam Webster's word of the day for August 20th. Today's word is unabashed, spelled UN, a, B, a, SH, ED, unabashed, is an adjective. It's a synonym of both undisguised and unapologetic. It usually describes someone who is not embarrassed or ashamed about openly expressing strong feelings or opinions, or such a person's emotion or behavior. Here's the word used in a sentence from the dominion post of Morgantown West Virginia by Jim bissett. Morgantown attorney Sam stone loves the wheeling symphony and has since he was knee high to a conductor's baton. He learned how to play classical music and he learned how to love it too. His fandom of the wheeling symphony was unabashed and unconditional. To abash someone is to shake up their self possession as illustrated by Charlotte Bronte, in her 1849 novel Shirley with these words. He had never blushed in his life, no humiliation could abash him. When you are unabashed, you make no apologies for your behavior, nor do you attempt to hide or disguise it. But when you are abashed your confidence has been thrown off. And you may feel rather inferior or ashamed of yourself. English speakers have been using abashed to describe feelings of embarrassment since the 14th century, but they have only used unabashed, brazenly or otherwise, since the 15th century, not that there's anything wrong with that. While we have that rams duck's game to okay. So judy okay. So let's talk about thursday first. Let's do the carolina. Panthers houston texans game. Tyrod taylor's out. He continues to be the most unlucky great quarterback. I think we've ever seen every situations happen. When you talk to these teams. Do they give you a lot more than they give everybody else. Because they know you and it's a national championship or you expect him here. Nothing from all these people what what is it like. It has nothing to do with me. I'm also on these calls with troy and joe who everybody loves half the time. Joe's like tea and off somewhere. He's like hold on guys. Let me finish this. But everybody loves it. And i know they're always so wonderful to us. It's kind of bummer. Because we don't really see. Obviously the texans or the panthers very much We just get him on thursday night. But yeah i'm i mean i'm a huge fan of coach rule and I actually had texted herbie last year. Because i was like. I've been away from college for awhile. "The. I hated the sec. Now i'm already posted on facebook. Sec well we're going to have you. We think Not not that. We think we're glad to have you. We we hope this is going to happen. Thank you very very much for the phone. Call and kurt is in missouri as we continue here kurt. Good afternoon yes. Good afternoon both occurred. You're on the air. Go right ahead okay. First of all. I like to say thank you for taking my call and ask them missouri tigers fan. I can't begin to tell you how much how good it feels to be sitting out this round of real realignment. It was one of the best move missouri ever made in years ago to join the sec. And there was a gentleman earlier. Who was talking about Texas as arrogance as a missouri tigers fan. I can assure you that many many people missouri share his sentiment texas's arrogance really wound the big twelve and it also ruined the southwest conference We made He'd made they made life very very difficult for missouri and they tried to extract as much as they possibly could monetarily when we moved to the sec. They criticized the sec. For me an imperial conference compared to the big twelve because missouri. One of the east in two thousand thirteen and two thousand fourteen. So i guess. What i'm trying to say is that the. Sec really really needs to put a grip on texas and make sure they don't do the sec. What they've done to to other conferences with that said i guess my main question for you is. What's your opinion on football. Darwinism any entering into the the quotient. What happens when teams like say mizzou bandy and maybe south carolina don't quite compete to the same level as maybe the. Sec is is accustomed to. And i do believe missouri is on the rise with eli drink. Which but what happens down the road when you get texas into the conference and they decide. Well we can make more money if we trade out these superior programs that don't meet the same level of standard of alabama and we can bring in others and And and keep our numbers at the same level but reduce the number of teams. That we have competing. What's your opinion on that occurred. I i asked coach don in this earlier in you know he. He had a fairly flippin response. He was joking. But i have great concern about everyone else and you know. Listen i'm i i. I'm excited and fired up about this. Because you know. I mean we sit here and talk about the big picture items but there are a lot of middle and nobody's middle of the road but if you're in the middle division to the lower division this could cause you some real problems because there will likely be an additional conference game which makes it more difficult to To have a winning record and the competition has just been ratcheted up even more and we were already talking about the toughest league in college football. Yeah it's it's real concern. You take the relief that we in missouri had when we got to. The sec is immeasurable and and to think that. There's a possibility that you know if we're like a midland team and we're five hundred that we could actually be pushed out the sec. For a team. That would be more attractive monetarily. And and i would hope that would not. It would not come to that because i think that would really ruin college. The ball and But but anyway i i your show is is really awesome. And thank you for your professionalism. And congratulations on your extended contract and and We look forward to the football season this year. Thank you very much for all of that. Kurt i. I've never been more excited about to be a beginning. A new tour of duty than i am right now. Let's talk to dr bob. I need a doctor right now. Bob good afternoon. How are you gonna. Thanks dr bob mobile doctor come come come. Tear our ills good afternoon. Good afternoon Paul i just I had a couple of things. I want to share with you. I am as saying I am totally opposed to the admission of oklahoma and texas into the see. I got three good reasons i fall. I don't wanna have to get in a plane and travel to these places and i think most folks The average fan is going to have a hard time making these awake games because again have to catch plane. The other thing is Recruiting men recruiting against these guys. While we're in this. He's seeing their knock we can say. Hey we're in the players with us. You're gonna be competing against the best in the country. But once they come in. We cannot use that as a recruiting to against them. And really i guess the last thing is these quality opponents and as an omits fan. I won't best chances. I have eaten somebody and these guys are good and Frankly i want to win as many games as i can. And these guys you know. I'm gonna say it best. It's been an honest omits fan you know. Maybe we'll have a fifty fifty chance from one year to the next and that's being optimistic. So my question for you. Policies there is simple when these presidents and chancellors and boards of trustees. I'll get together. Are they going to take any of these things into consideration or is it going to be about Bob i don't know the answer to that. Hey by the way. I just looked it up. I was trying to find. I may not have this correct. Oh i was trying to find the longest trip in the sec. I've got right now. Gainesville to norman oklahoma. It's only a seventeen hour trip unless it. I mean it's really. That's not nearly as bad as morgantown west virginia to wherever the farthest point in the in the in the big twelve. Hey thanks for the call appreciate it. We are a officially out of time for this program. We appreciate all of you for being a part of it Some really interesting guests today. We'll see you.

"Can you explain the history here. Absolutely good to be with you and juan. Thank you for having me again So this is pure insanity and we have seen five years of congressional reports policy reports And bipartisan agreement. That we need to make as many of our own pharmaceuticals as possible We know from data from reporting that the drugs that are made overseas can be full of carcinogens and toxic impurities. There's all kinds of data fraud and other quality questions that the plants overseas are riddled with including via his own implants which are operating in india under official action indicated. Warning from the fda. So why in the middle of a pan-demic are we going through this exercise. That every single report has told us. is absolutely counter indicated to public health and our national interest It seems that there is a collision here of a politics and corporate greed. We've seen a massive pay-outs to the via trish executives in the course of this merger including as you noted over thirty million to joe mansions daughter. Heather brush who is the former. Ceo of the company that merged with upjohn and mansion has become this pivotal figure a called by some the most powerful men in washington dc. And the only thing that is standing between this whisker thin senate majority for the democratics. For the democrats and a senator mcconnell taking up the gavel again so there is this sort of cone of silence that come down over this You know shuttering of this critical manufacturing plant in west virginia. It seems like it is both pharmaceutical and national security suicide to close this plant and a catholic. Could you talk about a mansions daughters history. There had the brush of with the company and in previous scandals controversy. She's been involved with. Yeah well what's really remarkable about the executive team that ran mylan over the last decade. Is that their compensation has just gone up. And up there was one year in which Heather brushes payout was twenty five million dollars in two thousand fourteen. Pay has gone up and up even wall. There has been this steady drumbeat of scandals as well as regulatory run-ins ins with the fda. So you know her. Tenure at mylan began with this scandal in which it turned out that she had been given awarded an mba from west virginia university on the basis of doctored transcripts. When she didn't do the coursework that mba had to be revoked. It was awarded. Right after mentioned became governor. He was before senator Than there was as you noted the scandal around the epi pen pricing in which the price was jacked up four hundred percent underbrush his management. It was handled disastrously she Sort of pulled them marie antoinette on national television saying nobody is more upset about this than i am But everybody rightly noted that compensation has just skyrocketed as a mylan ceo. Then once the morgantown plant got into regulatory trouble with the fda based on The kinds of data manipulation that some of the executive team had been notably involved in in their previous employment. They looked to wind down. The morgantown plant you know but the but the people who are really gonna suffer here are american consumers. We need safe medication. Affordable medication and medication made within inspection distance of fda headquarters. That's what the morgantown plan offered for. I think something like five decades this then. This is then myelin. Ceo heather gresh daughter of senator joe mansion then head of the lobbying group that generic pharmaceutical association blamed the price hike on a broken healthcare system during a disastrous interview with. Cnbc's brian sullivan. Surely you must understand the outrage. As somebody i talked to last night said people are outraged because it seems outrageous that the american medical association has said this is basically the same product. It was in two thousand nine and yet the price has gone up. Three or four hundred. Fold so look. No one's more frustrated than me. I've been mature as as how can you be frustrated. That's then milen ceo. Heather brash. Who went on to lie to a congressional committee when she said the prophet off the two pack of epipens one hundred dollars when it was actually one hundred sixty six about sixty percent higher. That's because brush cited a prophet figure that included a thirty seven point five percent tax rate on the epi pen even though my paid a tax rate of just seven percent ear. An analyst told the wall street journal that one hundred reported profit figure has nothing to do with reality. But i wanted to ask you catherine. E ben about this tennessee plant because this is where joe biden ways and when you talk about president joe some people in washington. Thank you mean. Joe mansion because of his power there. What happened in tennessee. And what could be. Biden's do here and then we'll talk to the union leader about whether he's spoken to mansion. Where is he on this but katherine begin so there was a really interesting hail. Mary rescue of an antibiotic plant in tennessee It was purchased. It was essentially about to be mothballed. It was purchased for a dollar by a uk company. Who sent a guy named david argyle to the tennessee. Antibiotics plant to say. Hey is this planned but viable. What did we buy he got there. He saw this incredible Decor among the workers and among the management You know they had a critical mission which was making antibiotics amoxicillin for the us market so Argyll got creative and he's australian. What he did. He placed the plant into a chapter eleven bankruptcy. Then he working with tennessee elected officials. He got the plan. Designated as critical infrastructure under a federal agency called cisa which is a cyber security infrastructure cyber infrastructure security agency got a designated as critical infrastructure. And then working with a team. He found an american buyer for it and now the usa has an antibiotics plant. You know at a time when almost one hundred percent of our penicillin is made overseas. We now have a functioning antibiotics plant in the us. So what could be done at morgantown. The biden administration could designate the plan as critical infrastructure which would stop it's equipment and its intellectual property from going overseas. They could come in and rescue it under the defense production act and get government involvement in the plan in order to save it but the question is why in the middle of a pandemic when it has been clearly revealed that there has been supply chain crisis after supply chain crisis. Would the biden administration. Let this plan slipped through america's fingers right now. We're going to continue this conversation. After break we're talking to catherine yvonne vanity fair writer Who's asking where. Joe manchin is in all of this the piece We can't reach him. Joe mansions ghosting the west. We welcome you both to democracy now. jogos can you talk about what's happening at the plant right now. In supposedly these final days of its operation morning. Thanks for having me this morning. Currently the majority of the Workers have been allowed to clean out their lockers or told to rather clean out their lockers. Think personal belongings and leave the facility in upon exiting the facility turned in their badge Their access badge to the plant and also their parking permit. This started approximately eleven. Am on sunday and It ran through yesterday. In fact it's probably even taking place in minimal increments now since the majority of the members have been flushed out by management and told to exit the facility and joseph goes. I wanted to ask you. What did the company tell the union first of all they give them the ninety day a worn notice that they have to do an shutdowns like this and also they can't be saying that they're not making money if any if any kind of industry is making money. These days is the pharmaceutical industry. So what was the reason they gave you for shifting production overseas the warn act was filed according to data deadlines as per the regulations required The other situation that you asked about is What did the company say well. They merger took place in november of two thousand and twenty december. The eleventh of two thousand twenty on a friday a payday. Friday two weeks exactly two weeks before christmas. We were on an all inclusive employees phone. Call the officers had a phone call. Fifteen minutes prior to that here at the union hall were told approximately seven minutes the all inclusive employees phone call that via truck had made a decision to center is and close the morgantown facility profitability and things of that nature weren't really discussed but there was a lot of mentioned of the future interest of the shareholders in the investors and Trying to quote unquote down size to maximize the Interest the best interest of the shareholders and stakeholders in via the new company. And i would have to assume that as pharmaceutical jobs unionized pharmaceutical jobs to pay is is above average. Certainly for west virginia. Could you talk about what. What kind of salaries were these workers. Have these workers been taking home. And what kind of replacement jobs are available at that level in west virginia we ratified a contract in the spring of two thousand seventeen The it's fair to say on a very modest stop estimate that the cross section was approximately thirty thirty one dollars. An hour at that time linda contract was ratified in denver's upwards of about eighty cents a year in terms of an incremental raise on an annual basis The job market in morgantown west virginia At this time For example there are lows which is a home improvement center in home depot. A home improvement center a little bit of west. Virginia university medicine In such it seems as if the cross section is basically around seventeen to eighteen dollars an hour on. That's.

"Drug manufacturing plants in the United States closing this week this week which the by the administration, the White House has declared made in America week. You have a precedent in Tennessee of a similar plant that dog. I did ministration has stopped from closing. Can you explain the history here? Absolutely good to be with you. Amy and Juan, thank you for having me again. So, this is pure Insanity. We have seen five years of congressional reports, policy reports, and bipartisan agreement that we need to make as many of our own Pharmaceuticals as possible. We know from data from reporting, that the drugs that are made overseas, can be full of carcinogens and toxic impurities. There's all kinds of data fraud and other quality questions that the plants overseas are riddled with including Beatrice's own plants, which are operating in India, under an official action indicated warning from the FDA. So, why in the middle of a pandemic? Are we going through this exercise that every single report has table? This is absolutely counter indicated to Public Health and our national interest. It seems that there is a collision here of politics and corporate greed. We've seen a, you know, massive pay-outs to the veatrice executives and the course of this merger including as you suggested over thirty million to Joe Mansions. Daughter Heather bresch, who is the former CEO of? Mylan the company that merged with upjohn and you know Mansion has become this pivotal figure called by some of the most powerful man in Washington DC. And the only thing that is standing between this whisker thing, with Senate majority for the Democratic for the Democrats, and Senator McConnell, taking up the gavel again. So there is this sort of birth. Moment of silence that has come down over this you know shuttering of this critical manufacturing plant in West Virginia. It seems like it's both pharmaceutical and National Security suicide to close this plant. And kind of, did you talk about Mansions, daughter's history? There had the brush of with the company and and previous scandals of controversy. She's been involved with Yeah. Well, what's really remarkable about the executive team that ran Milan over the last decade is that their compensation has just gone up. And up, there was one year in which Heather brushes payout was $25 million dollars in 2014, pay has gone up and up even Walsh. There has been this steady drumbeat of scandals as well as regulatory run-ins with the FDA. So, you know her tenure at Milan began with this Scandal. Change it turned out that she had been given awarded an MBA from West Virginia University on the basis of doctored transcripts when she didn't do the course work that MBA had to be revoked. It was awarded right after mansion became Governor he was before Senator, then there was as you noted, the Scandal around 5 a.m. EpiPen pricing in which the price was jacked. Up 400% under brushes management. It was handled disastrously. You know she sort of pull down Marie Antoinette on National Television saying, nobody is more upset about this than I am, but everybody rightly noted that her compensation has just skyrocketed as a Milan CEO. Then once the Morgantown plant got into regulatory trouble with the FDA based on the kinds of data manipulation. That's some of the executive team had been notably involved in in their previous employment. They looked to wind down the Morgantown plant, you know, but that. But the people who are really going to suffer, here are American consumers. We need safe medication, affordable medication, and medication made with him. Inspection distance of MDA headquarters. That's what the Morgantown plan offered for. I think something like five decades. This is now, this is done. Milan CEO, Heather bresch, daughter of Senator, Joe manchin. Then head of the lobbying group, the generic pharmaceutical Association, blamed the price hike on a broken healthcare system, during a disastrous interview with cnbc's, Brian Sullivan. Surely you must understand the outrage as somebody. I talked to last night said people are outraged because it seems outrageous that the American Medical Association has said, this is basically the exact same product it was in 2009 and yet the price has gone up three or four hundred fold. So look, no one's more frustrated than me. I've been in the jury. Has one reason I'm still how can be frustrated and that's violent. CEO. Heather bresch went on to lie to a congressional committee when she said the prophet of a two pack of epipens is $100 when it was actually a 166 about 60% higher that's because we're excited. A profit figure that included a 37.5% tax rate on the EpiPen, even though Milan paid a tax rate of just 7% that year, analyst told the Wall Street Journal that $100 reported profit, figure has nothing to do with reality. But I wanted to ask you Catherine even about this off. Tennessee plant because this is where Joe Biden wayson. And when you talk about President Joe, some people in Washington, think you mean Joe manchin because of his power there. What happened in Tennessee and what could bite and do here and then we'll talk to the union leader about whether he's spoken to Mansion. Where is he on this.

And everybody's drinking and then you'd have these mugs and then the light would come on. Everybody would put their mug on the table. These high tops and the police would come in and goes out your beer. No is that your beer. No and they would take away all the beer and then what we didn't realize was. The bar was in cahoots with the police. Because then we would have to buy more beer again. It was brilliant. Wow so it was always you know. We wouldn't get caught drinking beer because you just put it there be fifty beer mugs and nobody's having any beer and we thought god. These policemen they. They've i don't know why they don't think that that's our beer than we realize. You know the bar owner was like hey come on in and then we can wipe and come back in an hour and a half from now. We'll do it again. See tidy got a beer stories from college. I do not. I commuted from brooklyn to manhattan as we all know and i lived in my parents apartment in the brain beach brooklyn lie no is that it was just very very difficult very sad. It's very sad up to rutgers to visit my brother had a good time in new jersey in new brunswick some weekends but outside of that it was a. Why didn't you transfer to rutgers enhance. "Then the blue bloods are six to ten in terms of the rankings Florida state Duke Maryland Kentucky Louisville Craig is in there ten in one poll Meryl Levin another poll and then you start to get into the meat of these teams in the big east and the big ten with Villanova Seton hall Penn state you throw all burn in there then you get a west coast team in Oregon in terms of rankings then you're back to the big ten for Iowa many got Huggy bear in their West Virginia and and I just keep going down down down the list and what was I could see West Virginia going to the final four Bob Huggins teams are a lot like god to me what Bob Huggins does a West Virginia or at least tries to is what is tries to do at Michigan state T. Jim toff Rodham hard may come play tough I mean you got him in Morgantown West Virginia if you've ever been in Morgantown West Virginia once one of the nicer dumps in America but be that as it may there's not a lot to do down there so your car you try to do you work on your game and you get top there near here in the cold in your playing defense my point in bringing this up is you look at the big east's top to bottom and the big ten top to bottom they're probably the two best teams in college basketball and you can look at Villanova and Seton hall is a team that can definitely get to the final four or again you know I'm kind of wishy washy about a little bit I need a little more Intel on them to really feel good about thinkin they they can make a deep run in the tournament we have a really talented teams this year in college basketball but I don't think we have the proverbial bird team you look at the top ten it's pretty balanced and the NC double a tournament is still about the match ups well when you just look at these teams how many jump out to you to be able to win the national championship and although in filling out a bracket then I like to know a couple of teams then I'm gonna move on right away yeah I know I'm gonna have some tough decisions this year in filling out my bracket if let's say Florida state matches up against Creighton or if Villanova goes against San Diego state where you give me a little Dayton against Maryland then do can can scan Zacha yeah you start to break those matchups down and it's like okay though those aren't so easy to be able to
