"Support for this npr podcast and the following message come from morgan stanley is alternative energy really alternative anymore here the full podcast at morgan stanley dot com slash podcast morgan stanley and co llc membership ache just a quick note today's show is a rerun it originally aired back in two thousand sixteen also there is a new update at the end of the show and it's a good update okay so uh can you read me the title the paper uh feeling the future experimental evidence for anomalous retroactive influences on cognition and affect feeling a future meeting lake people can see into the future basically e s p e s p were talking to brian no secure he's a psychologist at the university of virginia mrs published where in the journal of personality and social psychology at like a top journal in the field that's right peerreviewed peerreviewed extensively this paper came out in two thousand eleven and brian no sick like a lotta psychologists thought what is going on here like there's no way that e s p israel but then again here as this paper describing not just one experiment but nine different experiments brightness some of them are really pretty convincing even today when you flip through the paper the main say hypothesis was at participants would be able to identify the position of the hidden pictures significantly more often than chance in one experiment he says people were told the stare at this computer screen and they are told that an image was going to appear on either the right side or the left side and there were asked to guess which side like look into the future which side do you think the images going to appear on and people do okay on this they do better in this study than as they were just been random chance this paper was published by a scientist at cornell university researcher who's really well regarded and when brian no sick read the paper there did not seem to be any obvious problem with it the paper is beautiful it follows all the rules of what one does and really beautiful way this e s p paper through the field into into really a crisis because no success there were basically two possible explanations either uh we have to conclude.
