But she's a defender. I suppose but if you look at the forward line tobin heath carli lloyd. Alex morgan meghan repeal. Kristen press. None of those are going to be coming under the radar right. It's crazy so the thing for me with this team is like so. I tell fans of the team to really cherish this tournament. Because this team is like i was just saying there are only lejeune's on this roster but if you start to go through and look at some of the ages you know their captain becky sauerbrun thirty six now. The forwards that you just mentioned tobin heath thirty-three carli lloyd. Thirty nine outs morgan. Thirty two meghan re piano thirty six. Kristen press thirty two i. The the baby of the former group is lynn williams and she's twenty eight So like this. This is a team that has they are all legends. They have achieved unbelievable things for. Us women Not just from a soccer perspective but almost from from a movement perspective. I mean this has been a unique group of women and so cherish this. Because i don't know how many more major tournaments you're going to see this group together so like this. There's still like they're still enough in their prime where i fully expect them to win. I know that's a difficult expectation to always live up to. But that's what that's just how it is when you achieve the levels of success that they do so consistently. I expect them to win And i'm going to watch every game. And i am going to enjoy this because there there may not be. There will be tournaments moving forward. Of course where don't be great. I mean roosevelt. only twenty. six. Iran is what twenty seven Kaneria macario who just became a us citizen born brazil. She's only twenty one. Fc announces forward. I can no less suffered an acl injury. Oh jin canada's goal cup game with the united states. He'll miss twenty twenty two world cup qualifying. It's it's it's very hard not to think that that is just such a huge enormous blow for for canada. And i knew something was wrong the way he went off. He looked in the I've done my acl. So i kinda you you develop a sense for. Oh that's the knee That's just terrible. Oh man that's. I'm sorry to hear that and you know for canada. In general they had you know his injury. Now alfonzo davies. It's a shame because on paper they have some players who are really fun to watch and could you know that team could make noise. But they now can't afford injuries dot not player of his quality. And now i mean obviously an seal. That's a year eight months nine months. Something around there. So they're going to have to go through world cup qualifying now without him. That's that's gonna be tough for sure. all right. He is the head of coaching. Communications for the san jose earthquakes. These also not made mehta's translator their manager he translator was sent off over the weekend after getting a little too aggressive with the match referee. This is from goal dot com. I'll mater received a booking for his part in the incident. But salazar was shown red for being too forceful with his protests and subsequently stormed off in disbelief. The overzealous translator. I love it. I mean it was really. It was pretty humorous. I i was kinda hoping. And i don't think this is what happened but i was hoping that he was sent off. Almost as like some kind of miscommunication where he is simply translating like if almeida spewing curses at referee and zalazar is simply being the guy translating it like could there have been this miscommunication thinking that he was the one. Doing the cursing. I don't think that's what happened. I think he was just like genuinely caught up in the moment and got like a little maybe two big britches i guess and got sent off Also the other part of this was kind kinda funny to me how. 'bout mls just like leaning into the bizarreness of the situation in their league. The league's official account tweeted a video out of the incident with the caption. This is wild and like an my gosh emoji. I mean. I love when they just like crazy stuff happens here. We're we're here for it oh. Mls has been doing effort for some time. Now they're like you know. And i was like how insulting. Yeah yeah like this. This was the guy from. I think he's from hall england who listens to us. So that's great that's all. I i set up the joke but at any rate i've never had to expand a joke to you. Don't think not very bright. I'm a smart guy. I'm sharp as a whip I don't need much explained to me. No it's true But let's do some explaining right now quickly As the us women get ready jj to embark on olympic gold. Now the one problem with an olympics in tokyo is all the i was looking through their fixture list and i was like That is a lot of four thirty. am start times. Yeah that killing the buzz. Now you can do. If you've got a shedule and a lifestyle that permits it is that you can record it you can. Dvr and you can watch it early enough in the morning. Just don't turn your cell phone on for so you won't get any notifications score notifications anything like that and watch it live if you know what i mean. That is a possibility to do that. If you really are committed to watching these games. I say i do it all the time it can be done. You just got in. You're very you are. You are like one of those monks bat european monks. Usually i think they're belgian monks. Who have vows of silence You you commit to it. You wear the robes. Come a luddite. You remove yourself from all forms of technology and you watch the game as if it's live. It's it's impressive. I did it with usa canada. Because i was traveling back from philly as the game was happening. Shut it down. Didn't watch it at night. When i got home. Had no idea what happened in the game. Now had i not watched. Yes so it can be done Just when you wake up if you dvr these just like don't use a lot of people. Just wake up and immediately look at their phone. Go on the internet and like just. Don't do that just turn on your tv watch it. Then start your day. Can i ask you something about the. Us women's quest for olympic gold. Yeah of course yesterday when nbc broke the news that the tweet member of the women's gymnastics team who authorities did not publicly identify test positive cova nineteen just days before the tokyo olympics is set to begin city officials say when i saw that i automatically thought about the the us women's team and thought what if this happens you know that day. Yeah and it's it's so worrying. And i wonder if in a weird way you know this this could write the story for for some fringe player to like. Come to the fore. Because someone's out with covert nineteen protocols and isolation and things like that. It's i dunno i. It's not just a kick off times that make this a very very weird olympics for us women jj. These olympics are happening under a state of emergency. Yeah the whole thing isn't saying yes. I mean look ultimately. I'll be happy to watch it. Like i'm excited to watch this team play But like there is part. It's like what are they doing. Yeah how are they sending every country on earth to this place. That's under a state of emergency because of the global pandemic here right so the whole thing is not now. It's funny just to talk about this team for a sec. You use the term fringe player. Like what if you know. There's an absence that caught that allows a fringe player to step in. I'll say this. And i i get your point. I understand what. You're what you're saying. "Okay is massaging the law music log. Okay, again. Thank you for the glimpse into your personal life. You know, you don't have to know. So the last thing I would want to do what I got. Home after spending so much time in front of a computer monitor is watch television, but no, I have plenty of time for that. So I need to know. Okay, I completely understand that because I went through a time where I didn't watch TV very much at all, because I worked a lot, But, you know, then you start this job and you're like, Well, I want to be on top of my game here. Know what I'm talking about? So I've been watching more TV than I've ever watched in my entire life. And I love the crown, and I don't know when it's coming back. It's supposed to be Steve Later on this year. Okay? The fourth season. So what? What season? Are you on right now? Well, I've only completed two seasons. So I haven't seen any yet of season three, which is where the big casting shift change where they shifted to Olivia Colman. I haven't seen any of them so I don't know. I felt such fondness for Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth that I know. I know. I'll get over it will. I'll carry on. But I just We'll miss her. And I think that her not being a part of it is what has caused me to sort of just drag my feet and not kick it up to the top of the watching. OK, streaming list from I understand that, but you have to trust the casting. Because, Okay, did did the just I won't give anything away. But did the Cole incident happen while you were watching? I can't remember when the cast is cool. I don't thinks maybe I don't know. I don't really remember. It's been like a year and 1/2. Okay. You would remember that? Okay. You gotta watch. She is fantastic. Olivia Colman Fantastic, So we don't again. We don't have an exact date later on this year, but the fourth season. Is going to take place during the eighties and we get introduced Tio. Princess Diana. Played by a newcomer. Her name is Emma Corrine. And Gillian Anderson is going to be playing Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the newly elected prime minister at that time. And I think that's going to be really great. So that's the fourth season, then looking ahead to the fifth and sixth seasons, which will happen in 2022. We've got Imelda Ah Stanton as Queen Elizabeth. What she's going to take the crown into the 21st century. I don't I'm not familiar with her work off the top of my head. But we're going to use your name again for me. Ah, Imelda Stanton. I might be Stayton s t A I n t O end she'll be playing Q E two. Then we're going to enter the 2000 with Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, who died by the way in 2002. Spoiler alert. Wait, Are we getting Princess Diana? We are from a newcomer Emma Corrine McCord, and it's spelled like Karine or Corin. Okay, understands going to be great. Some of the news that when did it break out in a month ago or so when they said that they were, they are going to do a season six of the crown because the Crown creators had said a while back that they were going to season five and that was it. Wrap it up there, So I like to just kind of there being Mohr, so that's great. Yes. So as Faras ending the series, so the serious creator can't members first name something. Morgan. He pitched a three season story taking place over 60 years with the new cast. Taking the helm each year. So eventually he have evolved that into his six season plan his sixth season, so he went back and forth like you said, But it's still going to end where he envisioned it. We're not going to be any closer to present day as faras around, so I was kind of a bummer. No, Prince Harry. No. Margen, Morgan, Meghan, Markle or Margo? Help! I'm so that'll be it. I love I love the Siri's. I cannot wait any more for this to happen. Did you see the Downton Abbey movie? I didn't because I didn't watch the Siri's, which I would like to the only reason I mention it is because she Ah, Imelda Staunton. Played Ahmad Bagshaw. In the Downton Abbey moved. So okay, just saying If you're down there, can you might you know you might know her from that Well, and she's already has experience with that type of genre right? Because it's kind of similar. Yeah, right. Fancy dressing up and all that stuff and Nope. Eons. These common is aloof from me. Do you know where Maybe maybe I'm gonna put it, Donna, you talking about this? I think I'm gonna put the crown up it the top of my list. If I can convince my wife Tio, sit down and watch this. You have to finish peanut butter Falcon first, please. Thank you. What do you got Left, like 40 minutes for you to just do it. I want to review from you. All right. This is a job. What did you watch over the weekend? Oh, my gosh. I watch so much stuff. No. And you won't find it away is like one of your favorite comedies of all time. But you won't be like why did we watch that? Right, but you know what it was. It was a good reprieve from all the dark stuff that I watched. You know, it was fun. It's fast paced. It's kind of cheesy. It's basically about this couple who've been married for 15 years, and they never went on a honeymoon, and she's always wanted to go to Europe. Well, then they go to Europe. And the husbands of Detective That's Adam Sandler's character and then Audrey, His wife, played by Jennifer Aniston is a hairdresser and they They're on this plane. She runs into this hot, rich guy who invites them to hang out on his yacht in Europe. And then there's this old rich guy who's It turns out to be a family event on this yacht that they're no part of. Oh, I didn't realize that, okay. You gotta look this story up. And the guy the guy the announcers were like there'd be no Vanderbilt. Baseball to wasn't for whomever, the coaches at Michigan. And one of the sweetest moments the two coaches like the head coach van de and the head coach of Michigan. Right. Who obviously have been longtime coaches and friends. If I'm mispronouncing the name, I think that's right. Yeah. It's a really sweet moment. And, you know, I love those kinds of moments in sports right here. But it was just a nice sweet moment at the end of the game. Well, that actually happened earlier in the tournament, too. I want to say whoever eliminated Florida State University because that head coach had left after a long, long long tenure as well and the other head coach started crying, even though he just one because he just respected states coach so mutter. And it just the these women that the F Letica ability and the speed at which these athletes are running around that court in the control on their feet. I mean I would be like a pretzel Morgan Meghan repaying. Yo excuse me. I was confusing her with Alex Morgan, not how cool would it be? I really wish there was a game on the fourth of July. But they're playing on Tuesday if they advance the final that'll be on the seven, could you imagine for the July party in the backyard? My gosh with women's World Cup team. USA's gir-. These women can play it is unbelievable. It's really cool. When they when they bring together everybody like what they're doing right now quickly over to golf, Gary woodland, Dustin Johnson, both missed the cut after two days in the rocket mortgage. "And this could be the biggest issue for me going into the last sixteen and forward, maybe is what to do with Tina because I believe that Jack will keep faith in her, and we'll keep building a team around her and for me that's the wrong coal nothing. What tina's the Akron came in brought her back in right? She had been phased out with the other coaches and realize that they need the number ten. So they bring in the veteran comeback in and help who else could you see playing that role because I'm wondering can Elissa America in there and almost sit underneath because she is so dynamic in the box. In addition to her excellent time runs off the wings, but they have plenty of. Winger's between Dionny and Cascarino as I've ever been thought about at the national team level. Yeah, you're right, all you change the system. And you go for three which for me when you get to those big games against the US there's only one system that FRANZ should play for me. They get to the quarterfinal against the US is to play four three and two to much the US formation. If you go four to three one, you're gonna get overrun another number in midfield. And I can already see the dominance that the US could have on these French side. If you go four three you, you could put a summer in the center, you Tina out and you've got you to wingers Jenny and Cascarino who have so much space and kids, and then you strengthen you midfield with only Besigye and Bilbo, for example, all get your the PG midfielder as well. There's, there's so many options, you could use Jack seems to be so shutdown down four two, three one with teenagers number ten I really don't believe she's going to change anything. How would you describe jill's a sense of pressure around this team? When we spoke to you a week ago. It seemed like the country was very behind this team. There was a lot of positivity. Now I hear more questions in your voice. Is that a reflection of the French public as well? No so much. It's more. It's more from the media and, and actually from inside the Cam, there's, there's a few people saying, but the media, too, harsh we don't to hush. This is what we would do for the main, for example, we do exactly the reached our level. Now where, you know, there's no, but, you know, it's the workup our home and we should become with them. No, it was just no good enough against GI. And it should be said the funds are still very much on board. We saw the atmosphere against in Hainan. On on Sunday nights Monday nights. It was it was fantastic. And they would be that. I mean, especially if he's Brazilian the last sixteen just imagine the misfit, and these game would mean a such a big rubber between Brazilian FRANZ in football in general, this will be even more special. And then if we get to the quarter-finals in Paris, at the US that's going to be even better. So the support and so far, the examine the passionate is much there. The pressure hasn't seem yet to get to the girls and to the players and to jock so far. I believe he will get that if we play Brazil in the last sixteen because that would feel like whoa, this is actually really happening. This is a proper proper workup nocco much. This is FRANZ against Brazil. This is everything that everybody is always wanted and just about a few days ago, few days either to go for it. So maybe the pressure then we get to them. And I'm not sure how they will respond to it jus I only have one other question for you. It's actually a little bit away from the field here in the United States. The US women's national team has some very like brand identifiable stars. Alex Morgan, Meghan, repeat. No tobin..

I wanna start by playing some sound of fief as secretary general Fatma summer, she didn't interview with CNN and was asked about the importance of this year's women's World Cup full definitely the most important because it's the World Cup. That is taking place in a moment where women are more and more raising their voice quantity for Justice now. Explain what the backdrop is here that the fief official, we just heard from is, is talking about sure. I mean, this is definitely one of the best armaments that were ever gonna see on the women's side of the game. But there is this overall sense of all of these things off the field that are starting to creep into this tournament. I mean, for instance, the US national team right? The moment is suing their own federation for equal pay other teams are looking for better training, better investment better wages. I mean you name it women are really starting to push not just at their local level, but also. Their country level end back against feast for better investment into this game. And of course, the biggie equal pay a two men. Yes. And you know, there's definitely some discussion in terms of for the us national team the structure is different on the men's side on the women's side, essentially, they are playing the same game and the women outperform the men in the United States. Is that true on other national soccer teams around the world? Yeah, I mean it really depends. I mean you look at some place like South America, where Brazil Chile Argentina. I mean these are some of the best teams in the world and the women's side of the game is barely paid attention to Brazil is definitely still a top team globally, but they don't have the resources that the Brazil men's national team they actually for instance play jerseys that reflect the World Cup's that the men have won. "In finals appearances a former captain of the US women's national soccer team. Welcome to the rich Eisen show Christie Pearce rampant. How are you, are you right? What is it like to step on the field representing this country in such an event like this? What does it feel pretty amazing? You know, it's the journey to get there and then, once you make that final roster and you're on that stage, the big stage, you know, there's a lot of. Pressure. All the countries are they're competing for the same thing winning that World Cup. It's unbelievable. But if to game by game that's I think the biggest pitcher of making sure don't look too far ahead. Sure. And that's the part of the process of winning World Cup by just looking around I match. Right. National anthem plan. I cannot imagine what feeling must of course you get the chills. Yeah. You're playing for your country. You know, you think about all those all the prep work leading into it. And you kind of just listened to that national anthem digest it. And then that was the blows. It's game on. So now let's talk about the, the prospects for the women's national team this time around ranked first, obviously and fie rankings, but a totally different team, even though they are, I guess, technically longer in the tooth in most about their average age of twenty eight I set the table distance and things off to you and what you think of the chances for the team this year. I think they tend to there are very good. You know, we're coming into this World Cup ready and prepared. I think we'll be peaking at the right time. We're very deep in the attacking side of the game. I think we are little lacking in depth in the defensive side as a unit. But I think overall you're going to see the US scoring a lot of goals in this World Cup, very different than two thousand fifteen which was a solid defensive unit less goals being scored. But I think with our attack with Alex Morgan, Meghan routine. Oh, Tobin heath. Their chemistry up top is going to be something special to watch, obviously leadership of people like yourself Abby Wambach not there who, who does fill that void. Fantasy Meghan repeal and Alex Morgan. I think stepping up in those difficult moments because in the game of soccer ninety minutes, there are moments where you're going to lapse, and you just matters how you're gonna get out of it, you know. And I think the players will look to those to, to really help them get through it as well as Lloyd coming on by Layton games. Well, the, the tournament starts with the host French team taking on the career Republic. That'll be on Friday tomorrow. Three eastern on f s one first match for the United States. Women's national team is against Thailand live on FOX at three in the afternoon, eastern time on Tuesdays. Is that a is that a good thing that it takes the first matches later in the first round? Kinda see the game the tournament. You know from watching it from afar. Getting used to being in France, the environment, the distractions. And I think, you know, playing against Thailand, which is a lesser opponent, so they should be able to start getting the nerves out, you know, especially with a lot of younger players on the team in the mid field. So I think it be good for them to go from Thailand and then to Chile and then Sweden who will be there their best opponent in the group stage what we know about Sweden. All right. Obviously, this is the the side that knocked team USA out of the real Olympics in two thousand sixteen. We all know what choice words hope solo had back then. What, what do you think is there is a rivalry game? Do you think get a little bit playing Sweden a lot in group stage? I definitely think it's the first time says, I think it's a rival our old coach Pierre soon Hogg, who was from Sweden, noses very well. And I think in the Olympics, you know there's a lot of mind games per se. I think in that in that game she's no longer the coach Sweden, definitely always comes after. Beat the US. I think they've heard about the US for so long that everybody's gone in for the US. Let's be honest, but Sweden has something I think extra in their motivation to beat the US, but hearing about all the time. So that'll be a difficult game. But it's group stage the top two teams advance in each group. So you'll see the US move on. And now be determining factor of who they'll meet in the round of sixteen and then onto the quarters. So who's the one in the round of the round of sixteen that lurks right now, if you look over the steering wheel, right? I think, you know, coming up against a Spain, or Canada or Netherlands are teams that we could meet in the round of sixteen all very technical teams. Spain is very organized tough to break down defensively. They have a great attack. So it's, it's going to be each game is going to be kind of a different game plan heading into from the round of sixteen on through Tom World Cup champion three time Olympic gold medalist with Fox Sports for this World Cup Christie Pearce rampant here on the rich Eisen show. Give me the name of somebody. Young player from team USA that we might be talking about a little bit more one week from today two weeks from today. Midfield. You're gonna see Lindsey her ran in Roosevelt, and their first World Cups, you know, breaking barriers. I think you're going to see them have exceptional games their experience in the fact they've, they've played in high level games, but they just haven't been in a World Cup. So I would see them be breakout players in this World Cup. And what would you say if you were on this squad to the younger players, what advice, would you give this relax? Enjoy the moment, you know, take it minute by minute. And don't look past each game because they the goal is to win the World Cup. And I think if you get too anxious to stress about getting to that final you lose your momentum throughout the game. So it's just, you know limit the distractions focus on the team in the locker room. Keep the locker room going going well and confident and just take a game by game. When you say distractions, you mean like hanging in France for a weekend or for a month. Distractions of like social media media, as well as like family and friends. That's probably the hardest thing is making time for those people are coming over to support you, but also realize that you have to like your legs job. Yeah, thank you can enjoy translator. I'm just saying there's no, I would imagine downtime here downtime because you're prepping you know once you finish that game you're prepping onto the next game and resting travelling recovering and preparing for the next opponent or let's, let's stop e so nationalistic for quick, second here else. Elsewhere outside of these United States. Give me a group of desert group of death. They so called group of death in this in this draw. Is a group of death death. I think there's you pretty much can look across the board and see the top two coming out of each group, it'll be that third. There's four third place teams that will advance but you always have to look at Germany. France England is making a run a Young Australia team that's doing very well. It doesn't matter who you meet up with. And then, you know where the US will fall into place reaching the quarters on now you were here, watching in our green room in the at the end of the last hour Pierce rampant here on the rich Eisen show and you watched the three of us draw ideas are adopted nation states. Yes. Out of our deadwood hat you have named two of the sides that we plucked out a hat. Unfortunately, Mike del to five yet to hear Christie talk about Nigeria. Much sorry, my, so if you don't mind, which could make a run. Okay. We'll say they're very athletic. They're fast. Okay. Mike so far. That's okay. And they give up. Yeah. Very athletic. So, you know, younger team come into their own longer. Team though. Mike. Have you already mucked up who who is? Group stage. So we'll see you're saying there's a chance chances the possibility. Okay. What about England England's going to do well, they've got coach and Phil novel. He's played at the highest level. He's got these girls confident ready. So you've got good one, okay. For good things to how you already talked about Spain having fun to watch. Okay. Yes. Okay. But but team USA is standing in the way say in the way I wasn't going to choose team USA out of the hat. And I hopefully wasn't gonna just choose somebody who just look at me go unfortunately that'll be quick one. I just didn't want somebody who was going to be right in the way of team USA out of Spain possibly and around sixteen by, but you never know the actor Timothy elephant shows Canada, he chose wisely candidates. Very good. They've okay. The coming along. They have Sinclair, who has like four goals away from beating Abby Wambach record. She's someone I played against for many years, very good leader. So they have a good leadership on on Canada. Who's the best competitor who ever played with, with abbey hands down your stutter Abbes? What was that show just because she has this mentality that no one else brings the game like she loves the pressure. She's able to finish and be composed in the box, and that is a sign of good athletes. Specially good forward that just is mindful of others, but she's just the triple threat. She's, you know, she's so good in the air. She's a great leader. She can finish their feet or head. She's just someone you want on your team. One of those players teammates that you didn't want to let down with your and play needed to raise your own. I was so much fun playing with advocacy being in the back being able to scream up to her on the four line as well as her screaming back to me like we had such a connection on the field in new just signs because you can't really hear self talking in a real Cup. It's so loud. So you have to just be aware body language, and that's what she brought. Like she just brought so much energy in the energy is contagious. Especially in moments when people are fearful of the unknown of making mistakes obeys right there to secure them. Well leaders don't you stop? Leading once they stopped playing and she has been leading the charge if you will alongside with the women's national team that sued the US soccer federation for equal pay, and the women's national team has generated more money and more success than their male counterparts for team USA. Why do you think there's disparity in pay?.

"But today in a stunning move on International Women's Day, all twenty eight members of the team filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the US soccer federation as I'm gonna vase tells us the lawsuit is by far the most ambitious moved by this team yet. In their filing. The player said there had been years of institutionalized gender discrimination that meant far lower pay. They said players such as Alex Morgan, Meghan. And Ellen Carli Lloyd also said in the lawsuit their working, conditions, training, facilities, medical treatment, and more were all affected by this alleged discrimination. Elizabeth Mitchell covers for the new York Daily News and she joins me now from Austin, Texas. Elizabeth thanks for being with us. Let's start with how we got here. There was a complaint filed with the EEOC Equal Employment Opportunity commission a few years ago. How did that lead to this lawsuit? Really it led directly because what happened was when the EEOC started looking into it. They needed documents from US soccer and stating the women's revenue and they were unable to get them. And so this is really trying to force discovery of those documents to figure out exactly what the women's revenue has been not only now, but how how much it has been in the past. So there are some numbers. They. Clued in the lawsuit has mentioned, it's not just about the disparity in pay. But a lot of it is about the pay disparity. I want to read you part of what they said in the lawsuit. They said the pay structure was so skewed in twenty fifteen the men's national team earned nine million for losing in the round of sixteen the women earned only two for winning the entire tournament. Is it really that bad? We know why the pay disparity is is because it is. Yes. I mean, it's terrible. And really it starts at the top. There's an international federation called fee, which you might have seen in the news because there is a lot of investigation of corruption within FIFA. But it's essentially a boy, I mean, it is a boys club. It's it's been had a lot of sexism and going back, and they never broke out. How much the women were making their and that fee hands money down to US soccer. And so some of that discriminatory practice also gets handed down. But yes, those numbers are accurate. So help us understand. What is it? The women want to see happen as a result of the lawsuit. And is there. Chance they could be successful. Oh, yeah. I think actually this is their best chance for success. The main thing they want to know is what do we make? I mean, it is a very weird situation because they don't get to see their economics. It goes through this private company called soccer United marketing. And that that entity has all the information about how much revenue comes in through sponsorships and all the rest, but they've never broken it out for the women. And so the women want to say, okay, let us be paid equally. If we make less, let's get paid less. But let us look at what we're bringing into the federation. And one thing let's make sure all of our work conditions are training all the rest there. We have equality because that's the way to build the sport going forward. It's worth mentioning this isn't the first time they've been fighting to equalize the pay and other conditions. Very briefly. Elizabeth have they made any progress over the many years? Oh, yeah. I mean, there has been some progress, particularly when they renegotiated their contract and that was under threat of lawsuit as well. But they were able to get some boosts in, you know, their their compensation for some of their public appearances. They were able to get a little increase on the prize money a little increase on some of the benefits of the training facilities, but not enough. And it is the only league as well. The only US federation that has this commercial arm. That's taking the prophets. And then telling the women you and men what they make. This lawsuit was filed today. So we'll see where it leads Elizabeth Mitchell of the new York Daily News. Thanks very much. Thank you for having me. And let's get some reaction. Now from Julie Foudy, the former captain of the US women's national team. She's a two time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist. She's now a soccer commentator and reporter for ESPN and hosts a podcast called laughter. Permitted which focuses on women pioneers. In sports. She joins us now on the phone. Julie. Thank you so much for being with us. Let's just start with your reaction. What did you think? When you first heard about the lawsuit today. I had interesting timing right before the World Cup, of course. And it's bold and brave which is pretty much trademarks of this team for so long, and what I love about this current group is they understand that their role in so many different ways to pioneer in a sense for the other female athletes out there, whether it be the USA hockey team, or I mean, you go down the list of national governing bodies that aren't doing enough. I think for their women's teams, and they recognize that they have an opportunity to set the path for these other teams, and they're going to do just that it's worth noting back in nineteen ninety nine you and your mates win the World Cup. Just a few months later you go on strike for equal pay. Did you think this was a conversation? You're still going to be having twenty years later. No, no. And this is actually a conversation when we do have it now twenty years later with the current team. I say oh my gosh. Are we still fighting these fights? And and I think that's you know, what it's about obviously, pay equity. He is one piece of it. But the thing that the players that really rattled them as little things that are low hanging fruit that they had to fight for even more recently in terms of, you know, equal per diem on a daily basis to the men's team. And as we know I mean, this is a team. That's that's winning that is making money that's celebrated in so many different ways. And has so many positives around it, we have an opportunity to be bold and brave here and do something that could be precedent-setting for the rest of a female athletes. Julie Foudy thank you so much for making the time to talk to us. My pleasure..
