Pastor Shawn Bolz Always Knew God in an 'Extreme' Way

"I want to get your story too, Sean. So before you came to be the password this church in Los Angeles, where did you grow up and when did you come to faith? Well, I grew up, my parents were first generation Christians, and my dad was a colonel in the air force, and he's retired now. And my parents got stationed down here during that Jesus people movement. And so I was really imprinted by that. And I never had a time away from God. I was new guy, but I wanted to see if what we were seeing inside of church culture could work anywhere. And so I started to go to extreme missions. I feel like I was the jackass missionary because I would go out just like the show jackass and go to like red light districts and war zones. You'd like a mini bike off of a cliff with a Jesus pretty much type of thing. We would do really radical things and we would do missions at the same time in different countries. We could do or jump out of airplanes, whatever. But we would see radical things happen like the same things that were happening in charismatic Pentecostal church cultures, we would see that in the dumps of a war zone with children who were orphans who had no other alternatives or an IDP camps. And so I spent the last up until I was married, I spent about 20 years going to extreme places to see if the kingdom would work in those places, and the same way we see it. And we hear reports in church cultures around the world. And I wanted to see if that was real. And so that was my background's a little extreme. I did extreme missionary tourism because I only went for like a week at a time. And then I also spoke in the church at some of the greatest churches in the world for many years. I usually speak about 60 churches a year, but I've taken some time off because I'm producing right now. But man, it's amazing what God's doing right now. If you have eyes to see what you said with Mario Morello, so my background is, I want to see if God will touch extreme places of culture and extreme places where people can't see God without the Holy Spirit showing up. So I'm in Hollywood. I administer in Hollywood in Los Angeles and I also do a lot of stuff with the poor

Pastor Shawn Bolz on His New Book 'Encounter'

"Sean boltz welcome. I'm so glad to be here Eric. This is awesome. I'm not going to ask you to sprint, but I'd like to talk to you about a lot of stuff. You're somebody that I've followed you a little bit, and I thought when I heard that you had a book out, the book is called encounter that it would be great to have you on the program. So your pastor in Los Angeles, now a pastor in Los Angeles, but I actually do more TV ministry. I'm on TV and like you are and I do a lot of hosting of podcasts. And we're creating a conversation for what God is doing right now. It's so easy to see what he's not doing. So easy to see what people are doing wrong with the enemy's doing. But seeing what God is doing is really profound right now. That I know that is true. And it's one of the reasons I wanted you on the program because a lot of people wouldn't know that because if you look around, the news media, let's face it. They're not covering things as they are. That's putting it really mildly. And there are dramatic things. I just had dinner with Mario Morello the other day. And he started sharing things with me. And I said, why do most Americans have no idea that there's revival happening? Lives are being changed. You would just think it's hopelessness wherever you look. And in part, because of the hopelessness, it's driving some people to God. So there's a good side to the ugly. But so you're the host, I'm sorry, you're the host of a program, obviously, on TBN, but also your pasture of a church. And the title of your book, the new book that I want to talk to you about is called encounter. A spiritual perspective that will shape your faith for the coming move of God. What do you mean by that the coming move of God? Well, you know, the last time that Christianity moved forward in a major way in America was during a period called the Jesus people movement. It was the late 60s, early 70s. And we had about 18 million people get saved, not church centric around one church. But it started in Southern California, but it went all around the world. And it was reported by news media and on the cover of Time Magazine and all these places. And the least likely people group were the ones who were used to bring this, which was the hippie community. And so it's just really interesting how God used the least likely. But I believe we're facing another season where there's a move of God. And before that happened, there was about 15 years of darkness where there was moral decay and free love free drug culture, all these things started happening. People started leaving new care family, just like today, new Griffin was down to about 8% during those years just a few years. People start to leave kind of iniquity was the big thing. Inequity being a wrong mindset through the way we believe psychologically the way we believe kind of humanism was rampant. A lot of socialism was rampant. And then Jesus showed up, then the Holy Spirit came and just supernaturally brought his presence to the earth, and many people got saved. It was very easy. And I've talked to many pastors and I don't know if you know this, but 85% of senior pastors in America today were saved during that period of time, whether it was as a result of that revival, or just coincidence that it was that period of time. Oh, yeah. And a lot of the aging out now. It's a fact. You're

I'd left american and taking a job for a travel technology provider and i started traveling for work for fun when i started working for the travel. Technology company and i was visiting airlines around the world doing consulting with them on pricing and revenue management practices. So i started traveling to more exotic places and around when i got to about one. Hundred countries My friend and i started comparing notes about wary travel than wanted to count countries. And so i went through the whole mental exercise. Of what is what is a country what is visit. Yeah how to count the countries i. I wasn't aware at the time of all the online travel clubs and resources. That had already sort of hashed out this concept of what is a country with council visit. Even though there's different opinions as my friend. And i went through that whole exercise we gravitated towards the. I'd say either you. I'm liz or the un plus list and so we had both roughly bentiu about ninety two hundred countries. And at that point. I felt like okay i can. I can do this i can. I am halfway there. Roughly and i can keep going and visit all the countries That was really my lightbulb moment. It wasn't on a trip per se. It was Just reflecting back on all my travels and obviously how much i love to travel at. I felt like i now had access to the whole world because my company was sending me to all these places like ethiopia and papua new guinea australia south africa and enabled me to on the weekends. Either exploring the country is in or go to another country next door for example excellent. So i'm gonna come back to you in one second. But i want to talk about your friend for a moment. And I got to catch a little bit of it. But Tom, obviously was very involved in it and gave us some great insights here talking about Chris Cornell his legacy and this the tribute show that went on. So here we go with a live audience from a week ago Wednesday a week ago Thursday rather from the rainbow in LA, we call it the trunk nation LA invasion there live on Sirius XM volume, and we give me an hour of it right now for the Eddie trunk podcast. Tom Morello is here late. I just happened to be at the rainbow. Anyway. This is nothing Tom, and I wouldn't be doing if there were like phone Sierra and probably a little later. We get 'em nights. There's a show some nights. We're just here. Right, right. Usually little later than six o'clock Pacific, but Thomas here, and one of the things I wanna talk about with Tom among a few things, though is really what went on last night at the form in here in Los Angeles. You guys some of you guys were there. It sounds like looks like yeah. And I flew in and landed and touchdown at the airport grabbed my car got over there. I enroll into about ten fifteen and I was like man, I'm gonna miss it. Because I guess there's eleven o'clock curfew, and I think we're still rolling it like well thirty so I caught a good amount of it. And and thank you for forget me, and Tom and I walked in. And I'll tell you I walked in that backstage while wait look like seen almost famous. It's like, oh, there's there's Brad Pitt. There's the foo fighters Metallica. There's Tom Morello this. It was an unbelievable gathering of love and support for Chris Cornell. Yeah, it was it was an. Epic and historic night. I think in the history of rock and roll really paying homage to one of the greatest singers of all time, Chris, and he really got his do last night. I thought that it was you know, for his fans it was a tremendous. I fans not just in the room. But around the world, like I I was on a little solo tour, you know, in the last couple of months in every city people were just talking about the show, and how much it meant to them that it was even happening ran into people from Finland and from Scotland in from all over the US who were in the room last night. So it was a great night for Christmas fans. But it's also really like a great night to celebrate rock and roll, you know, like it was five hours of Metallica foo fighters. Dudes from rage against the machine was obviously temple the dog Soundgarden playing Chris Cornell music and some of their own music, this really some of the most timeless great kick ass jams..
