The wildfire that ravaged Maui is now fully contained after almost a month. The blaze devastated the historic town of Lahaina and killed at least 115 people. It's estimated to have burned 2 ,170 acres of land. As of Friday, 385 people remained unaccounted for. Every Friday, two people are dead and three people are injured after a shooting at an Alabama club. The car the victims were in was then reportedly shot at when it arrived at an area hospital. I've seen the Tahoe go up in the emergency exit at a high rate of speed. And there's nothing, a dark blue car pull up behind it. And before they can get out, the guys in the blue car jumped out with long rifles. It just sprayed the Tahoe up. No suspects have been arrested. Police didn't provide the conditions of the three injured people. Thousands are stranded at the Burning Man Festival in Nevada after extreme flooding. Some are finding ways to escape trudging through the muddy desert. Even celebrities like DJ Diplo and comedian Chris Rock. We're walking three miles now. We got, I think, five more. Diplo posted about the ordeal on social media with Rock alongside in their group. Organizers of Burning Man first told the crowd.

"Rockstar Energy punched, bringing a bold and unapologetic flavor packed with energy through a blend of B vitamins, guarana extract, and 240 milligrams of caffeine to fuel what's next. Rockstar Energy drink. Good evening and welcome to the Crypto Overnighter. I'm Nick Ademus and I will be your host as we take a look at the latest cryptocurrency news and analysis. So sit back, relax, and let's get started. And remember, none of this is financial advice. And it's 10 p .m pacific on Thursday, August 24th, 2023. Welcome back to the Crypto Overnighter, where we have no sponsors, no hidden agendas, and no BS. But we do have the news, so let's talk about that. Tonight the UK tightens its grip on crypto, ensuring a safer transaction environment. FTX partners with Galaxy in a bid to save its sinking ship, while in Israel a massive crypto deception comes to light. Bitstamp retracts its Ethereum staking services for US users, a former police officer finds himself in hot water with the SEC, and Binance decides to swipe its card for the last time in Latin America and in the Middle East. Stay tuned as we delve deep into these stories. The UK is undergoing a significant regulatory shift concerning crypto assets. The Financial Conduct Authority emphasized the importance of stopping cryptocurrency misuse for money laundering and other illicit activities. To this end, the FCA implemented stringent requirements for companies operating within the crypto space. One of the primary regulations is the enforcement of the travel rule. This rule mandates the sharing of detailed information about both parties involved in a crypto transaction. The FCA has set a deadline for compliance with the travel rule, which is September 1st, 2023. From this date, UK crypto firms must collect, verify, and share information about crypto asset transfers. This move aims to curb the high levels of illegal activities associated with cryptocurrency. The FCA expects crypto firms to take all necessary steps to ensure compliance with the travel rule, even when transactions involve third -party suppliers. Furthermore, the UK government confirmed that high street banks must ensure customers can access cash within three miles of their local communities. This decision comes after the closure of numerous local branches and increasing shift towards digital payment methods. The government's objective is to protect vulnerable groups and elderly customers by maintaining current levels of cash access across the UK. The travel rule, initially designed for traditional financial institutions, was extended to include virtual asset service providers in 2019 by the Financial Action Task Force. This extension aimed to fill regulatory gaps in the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency domain and to enhance transaction transparency involving virtual assets. The primary goal of the travel rule is to reduce the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing. It requires VASPs to share customer information during cryptocurrency transfers, allowing authorities to identify potentially suspicious transactions more effectively. The UK's decision to align with this international standard showcases its journey towards travel rule compliance began with the legislation passed in 2022. The UK is positioning itself among a select few countries that have proactively extended the rule to cover cryptocurrency transactions. The upcoming implementation on September 1st represents a pivotal moment for the UK's cryptocurrency industry. However, despite proactive measures, global adherence to the travel rule has faced challenges. As of June, less than half of the countries surveyed by the Financial Action Task Force had taken steps towards implementing the rule. The UK's regulatory evolution does not end with the travel rule. Crypto asset businesses are also preparing for the enforcement of new Financial Conduct Authority marketing standards in October. These initiatives collectively signify the UK's dedication to comprehensive oversight of its cryptocurrency sector, enhancing investor protection and market integrity. Shifting gears from the UK's regulatory arena, let's dive into the dramatic world of crypto exchanges. FTX, once a titan, now seeks rescue. Let's see what's in store for them.

A highlight from STOP BEING LAZY - Andrew Tate Motivational Speech

"I understand don't people who say they lack motivation in life because I'll make this extremely clear. If you're not pushing and striving for something, life is so mundane. I've always had this problem with literal crippling perpetual boredom. I was bored. I had no money. I'm carrying boxes of ice. I'm a smart guy. I'm not playing chess anymore, right? This is, I'm 34 now. So this is quite a few years ago. It's before the internet, before Facebook was all big and nothing. What do you do with your life? What's there to do? I thought the only, I need to do something which drains me so that I can go to sleep at night without frustration. And if I kickbox, if I run three miles to the gym and then fight for three hours and run three miles home, at least I can sleep. I literally couldn't sleep. I wouldn't say it's ADHD, but I was just frustrated. And then on top of that, I've always had this huge frustration in regards to money. Even though I was poor, I'd grow up around a bunch of other poor kids and we'd be walking to school or walking to college and a Ferrari would drive past and they'd go, oh, cool Ferrari. And I'd say, doesn't that annoy you? And they're like, what do you mean? And I'd be like, he knows he's hacked the matrix. Don't you see? How does he have 400 grand for a car? He knows something we don't know. Well, aren't you annoyed that there's people out there living a lifestyle that we can't ever aspire to. We're never going to work in a job and pull this off. Doesn't this bother you? And they all be like, no, but me, it was, I was always angry. I was always angry, not angry in a go to jail way, but just in a, I was angry. I was like, something isn't right. Something doesn't add up. So I kickboxing was my answer. I just started kicking, kicking people's ass and I felt a little bit better. That was kind of how it worked. At what point did you realize you were like world -class at this? So when I, my first day in the gym, I walk in my coach, it was four Bosnian men, men. I was a child. It was four Bosnian men in this tiny little terrible gym. It was not like a commercial gym or commercial class. And he said, can you fight? And I said, yeah, I've done karate for a few years that I got knocked clean out on my first day, of course. And I guess they expected me to never come back, but I kept coming back. And my coach said to me, look, after about a year, he said, look, I want to put you into a fight. And he took me down to a town called South End on C and my first fight was in kickboxing. My first fight was actually MMA and it must've been a little over a year because I was 18 and I was fighting a 24 year old security doorman. And being a stupid American, I thought pounds and kilos were the same because I weighed in at like 82 pounds. He weighed in at like 90. No, I weighed in at 82 kilos. He weighed in at 90 kilos, which is an 8 kilo difference, which is almost like 20 pounds. And I was like to my coach, is that a big difference? He's like, no, no, don't worry about it. I was like, okay. Thinking back, a 20 pound difference is a big difference in fighting, right? And I got in there and I won. I didn't win necessarily through skill, but I just kept going and I just outgassed him and towards the end, I'm just on top of him, just punched him in the face, right? And now I'm only 18 years old. So from there, my coach was like, okay, you have some potential. And I knew for a long time, it was, I believed it was my only way out because like once again, before the internet and stuff, I'm going to college, I finished college. I don't believe in university because I'm too smart to get in debt for formal education. I'm too smart for that job. So I finished college. I'm working these sales jobs. I was always a good salesman. So I'm working sales jobs. I'm bringing in, you know, 3000, 4000 a month, whatever, but I thought my only way to get rich rich is fighting. I couldn't think of another way to get rich and I didn't fight only to get rich, but I saw light at the end of the tunnel. So that's all I wanted to do was just fight, fight, fight. And so at what point do you go fight for the first world championship? So I fight for my first level world championship on two days notice. So I'm in Slovakia. There was a town. I'm going to tell everyone now on this podcast, I'm going to give the secret away. If you go, if you're bored right now, if you're watching this on the internet, load up Google maps, right? And there's a town called Kosice, K -O -S -I -C -E, and it's on the opposite end of Slovakia to Bratislava. So Bratislava is the capital and then you have Kosice on the other side. It's four and a half hours drive from Bratislava. It's about four hours drive from Warsaw and about four hours drive from Budapest. It's in the middle of nowhere, but all the villages and all the towns, everyone around this little town, every hot girl within about 400 square kilometers lived in this town because there's no, there was nowhere else to go. Right. And they were all there. And when I was going there, this is pre -EU. They didn't have the Euro and me and Tristan used to go there on holiday because we would clean up. And when I say clean up, my brother, and when I say clean up, I don't mean clean up, like you clean up on holiday with some in Mexico. I mean, clean up with tens, like supermodels, it was unbelievable. And a beer is like 30 cents. And we're the only men there who speaks English. So I was in Kishidze and then I got a phone call from Amir saying he has a world title fight in two days. So I was just really drunk at the time. And I was... Amir is my coach, sorry. He was Bosnian Muslim. He fought in the Yugoslav conflict. He got shot six times and didn't die. That's the deal. Right? So he's still like a father to me. And I must've been crazy. I was like, okay, I can't explain, and I want to say this in a way where it's truly understood. When I say I didn't give a shit if I lived or die, I don't mean that in a sad, suicidal way. I mean that in an empowered, charging at the gunfighter. Back then, I didn't think I had anything that really made me really give a shit about living. Not in a doo -doo -doo sad way, just in a, let's go out, in a blaze of glory then. I'm not rich. I don't have nothing. I'm just banging girls in Slovakia with us. Who is this guy? So it was against the French world champion Jean -Luc Benoit was his name. And the opponent pulled out and they needed a guy on two days notice. And I had to lose six kilos, which was around 13 or 14 pounds in two days. Is that easy or hard? That's hard, bro. 13 pounds in two days is a long way to lose. So I just stopped eating, stopped drinking, sitting in saunas, spitting out all the water, just dying. Finally made weight, went to France, fought in 12 rounds. My first ever 12 -round fight as well, fought him. And they gave the decision to him, but I was wrong. I beat him. I beat him. I beat him. I didn't knock him out, but I beat him. Is this one of the four world championships, or this is the fifth? Well, it should be, yeah. But the tape was so convincing, the tape was actually sent off to the ISKA, the fighting organization, and they demanded a rematch. They knew I won, right? But he's France. He's French. He's in France. And fighting has a lot of politics to it. You have to understand, I mean, UFC is UFC, the real big ones. But outside of the smaller ones, it makes more sense for the French promotion of a French champion. They'll sell a lot more tickets and a lot more pay -per -views of the French champion. So basically either you knock him out or it's going to go down. It's kind of like that, right? So they commanded a rematch, and I rematched him seven months later and knocked him out in the eighth, and I became world champion. Okay. Why keep going once you've won? There's always a new mountain to climb. I mean, that's kind of, that's a good question, because that's also kind of the reason I quit. Because it's like, why keep going? Well, there's always someone new to fight, and I'm still not financially where I want to be. And I don't know what else I want to do with my life, so I'll keep going, right? So I fought again. I beat another Frenchman, and then I fought again. And then I beat two Dutch guys to become four -time world champion. But one day I woke up and I was like, is becoming five -time world champion going to improve my life? I mean, I've already got, do I need five belts? How much money do they pay for these fights? 3 ,000 bucks, 2 ,000 bucks. It doesn't even, you need to work on the side. You're giving up all your free time to get punched in the face. Like, it's a terrible decision. Like, I don't know why I decided to do it. But eventually, once I was world champion, I'd get like 100 grand to fight, but I'd give 20 % to my manager. Then the UK, with the UK taxes, 40, 50 % would disappear. And sometimes you only fight twice a year or whatever. I was certainly not rich. I didn't consider myself rich. So you get like 30 to 40 % of what? Yeah. And I didn't consider myself rich. Like, 30, 40 grand chunks, but twice a year, maybe three times a year. I'm living in London. London rents. I need a car. I'm trying to know, like, you're not rich in any way. And that's actually the reason I retired, because I woke up one day and I thought, I'm giving six hours a day of absolute focus and energy to this. And I believe I'm smart enough that if I put that much tenacity into something else, I can be a multimillionaire. I truly believe that. I was like, I've realized now I've reached the pinnacle of kickboxing. My choice is either to change over to MMA, which I was offered to do earlier in my career, but at the time, the kickboxing contract paid more money. I had to pay the bills, so I went kickboxing. Change over to MMA, learn to wrestle, change over to UFC, blah, blah, blah. But this is also like seven, eight years ago, where even the UFC didn't pay the money it pays now. But the UFC still doesn't pay that much money, from what I understand. No, if you're like top five or champion, yeah. But most of the dudes you're going to see there on the prelims, they're getting 10 grand a fight, nine grand a fight. It's nothing, right? So it'd be like starting my career all over again. And at the age of 28, I thought, I don't have the gumption to start again. I've been through hell for this. I've broken my hand eight times. My ribs have been broken. I don't want to do this all over again. So what do you do when you realize that, hey, maybe I don't want to keep fighting? I decide to get rich, Rich. What does that mean to you? When you're sitting there, you're getting 30, $40 ,000 kind of net on a per fight basis. Is rich to you like, hey, I want a couple hundred thousand dollars, a million bucks, 20 million dollars, a billion dollars? I want 30 or 40 ,000 every month. 30 or 40 ,000 every month, so about half a million bucks a year. I thought if I had that much money, I could do whatever I want. Okay. That's what I decided. So what's step one that you do? So step one is, maybe that's how we ended up here together, my friend. Step one is, I decided to be very logical about it, chess player, right? So I was like, I want money.

cuff, we're just flying, just soaring, there used to be one guy with magnifying glasses, now it's two guys with magnifying glasses, I had to start wearing them too, yeah, you got yourself a set of it's just hot, hot, but it did rain today, on and off, yeah, yeah, it's always like that, yeah, I got some hints, there's a gentleman who is friend of mine, I told you about the Mexican, which is catching the tan, yeah, being deeper Mexican, yeah, you know what I'm saying, yeah, it's like, I don't know what comes, you know, like turning the toaster from lighter to darker, it can't be darker Mexican, he called me and he was in Lely, he says, oh, I gotta go, it's raining and so I knew I was supposed to prepare, it took five minutes and we had to rain here too, yeah, so, you know, it's all, you know, I was, I started at one end today, this afternoon and it was, I was down by Pine Ridge and Logan and it was raining like cats and dogs, we have to liquid up what that means, I have no idea, but it was, let's just say it was raining a lot and then, you know, I drive two or three miles and then all of a sudden the sun's breaking out again, no rain, you know what it's called, the rain, cats and dogs, no, I have no idea what it means, Jewish car wash, oh yeah, yeah, why is that, because you get the car wash from the dust and you don't have to pay for it, oh, okay, it's cheap, yeah, all right, some that's true, yeah, it just comes out and they get the sponge, unfortunately, there's so much dirt and oil and grime on the car, my car is always a lot dirtier, I mean, if you're riding toaster, that's what's gonna happen, you know, there's just gonna have some grime because that's when you're toasting and toasting, it doesn't matter what car I was driving, it's whenever I'm driving in the streets, it's a mess, yeah, that's what happens in Florida, it's a mess, yeah, that's why we have rain, to clean it up, I tell you what, today, there was a lady, she came up and she started coming here today, today was the official day, yesterday was tryout and she said she took our coffee yesterday and she was up until three o 'clock in the morning, oh my gosh, I said why you didn't call us, we have this special phone line, you know, 1 -800 number, divine divine 9, that's the, you know, and she looked at me and said are you serious, I said yeah, we used to have a sex line but we didn't get that busy, so now we have the old days of the 900 numbers and I'll be helping people and, you know, they consume our coffee, yeah, they're so jacked up and high on the coffee, so she got a rocket fuel and she said, you know what, intervention line, this is my coffee shop for everyday now, I used to go to Badass and I said to her, you know, but that's perfect because we have a coffee and then I turned around and I said and better ass, how did you, yeah, she was laughing and she ordered something, she ordered something and she said I want that sandwich, I said what is it, the one I had yesterday, I said what is it, she said chicken clucker, oh the chicken, it's not the mother clucker, no it's chicken clucker, chicken clucker, I said why are you saying chicken is mother clucker and then she started laughing, she just made a new name, chicken clucker, chicken clucker, it's basically chicken chicken, yeah, chicken chicken, chicken clucker, yeah, yeah and after, usually chickens cluck, that's what I'm saying, yeah, so you didn't catch the drift, no because I'm stupid sometimes, well I'm sorry, I'm looking at your face, I'm having to stare at this thing across, I used to be better looking when I was three and then after three years old it just went downhill, that's all right, you're all right, you'll be all right, you'll get over it, so after that we had people from Holland and they are hooked to our podcast now, so we're going international, oh good, well we were doing that anyway because the website divinenapels .com is international anyway, yeah, it's actually the largest hub for everything you need to know about Naples, that's correct, and I don't, what is it, almost 30 websites connected, 23 websites, 23 and 18, how many languages, 18, 18, I see, I remember that number, 18 different languages and that's what we're doing here, that means you know that's stupid then, yeah, I thought you were, no I'm always stupid, half as stupid as I look, but we're all right, yeah, we're doing good, so that's, we're doing good, that was quick, let's get past that, yeah, so I've been browsing through some news and what's going on here, hey why don't you share with us some news, yeah I will share that with you right now because it's Friday and people need to kind of have a weekend to think about it, right, so number one, there are some changes in the, in a lot of the like school buses routes and everything else and they install secret cameras on the buses, oh really, yeah, so if you're gonna be thinking you're gonna pass the bus, you know, monster before, yeah, I call them yellow monsters, yeah, when you see the yellow monster, you want to pass it, pass it, then be careful because they have a, they have a cameras and they read also license plate, so once you get through it, they will send you tickets, yeah, that's not gonna be pretty, yeah, well we need to be safe with kids, right, right, just slow down, so get up and take off to work or wherever you got to go a little early, yeah, but another thing is also they're changing the speed in the school zones, used to be 20 miles an hour, now it's 15, which I'm grateful for because, you know, it's, it's, as he's saying, it's important to, you know, people crossing the streets with kids.

he left one, yeah, I mean if you're on this planet you have to leave something behind you, you do, otherwise you wasted time, let me tell you something, we're leaving behind, did you read the notes for the show yesterday, no, why don't I read them for you, why don't you do that, because every day we post a podcast, a thumbnail, it's called a thumbnail, yeah and it just gives you a little, yapping here for 30 minutes or so, we give you a little rundown on the writing somehow, we try to be creative to entice you, to entice you to listen to the podcast, and we don't have that much space, so we just put some kind of mix mix, yeah a little jiggle, so what is actually in that show, a little teaser, so yesterday's show, which was show 410, the title of the show is following, I mean it's a couple sentences so just stick with me, it's following, Rich got his Christmas present when Matt held his bread for three minutes, Rich is now certified installer, $500 waiting for you, you just have to click somewhere and print something, Matt had notes on the napkin and disposed them responsibly after use, that's the episode 410, now show notes are even more colorful, yeah, you want to hear see what we do today, we'll see, we are raw, we don't prepare, we just have a couple notes here, so we don't forget because you know, we're aging day by day, yeah, day by day and we're just off the cuff, we're just flying, just soaring, there used to be one guy with magnifying glasses, now it's two guys with magnifying glasses, I had to start wearing them too, yeah, you got yourself a set of coke bottle glasses there, coke as thick as a coke bottle, now it's now, that's yours, so just let's go to officials, Julian Bruce, Terra Kitarra, Pachuli Music, thank you very much for all the tunes and the intro song, we always gonna be grateful and we're looking forward to seeing you here soon, our sponsor, do you know who's our sponsor, yeah, who is it, it's Beach SOS, that's correct, BeachSOS .com, that's great, so official is done, now let's go to unofficial business, yeah, what do you got for the weather today, I've been in the weather, I mean, this is, you want to talk about it, no, it's just hot, hot, but it did rain today, on and off, yeah, yeah, it's always like that, yeah, I got some hints, there's a gentleman who is friend of mine, I told you about the Mexican, which is catching the tan, yeah, being deeper Mexican, yeah, you know what I'm saying, yeah, it's like, I don't know what comes, you know, like turning the toaster from lighter to darker, it can't be darker Mexican, he called me and he was in Lely, he says, oh, I gotta go, it's raining and so I knew I was supposed to prepare, it took five minutes and we had to rain here too, yeah, so, you know, it's all, you know, I was, I started at one end today, this afternoon and it was, I was down by Pine Ridge and Logan and it was raining like cats and dogs, we have to liquid up what that means, I have no idea, but it was, let's just say it was raining a lot and then, you know, I drive two or three miles and then all of a sudden the sun's breaking out again, no rain, you know what it's called, the rain, cats and dogs, no, I have no idea what it means, Jewish car wash, oh yeah, yeah, why is that, because you get the car wash from the dust and you don't have to pay for it, oh, okay, it's cheap, yeah, all right, some that's true, yeah, it just comes out and they get the sponge, unfortunately, there's so much dirt and oil and grime on the car, my car is always a lot dirtier, I mean, if you're riding toaster, that's what's gonna happen, you know, there's just gonna have some grime because that's when you're toasting and toasting, it doesn't matter what car I was driving, it's whenever I'm driving in the streets, it's a mess, yeah, that's what happens in Florida, it's a mess, yeah, that's why we have rain, to clean it up, I tell you what, today, there was a lady, she came up and she started coming here today, today was the official day, yesterday was tryout and she said she took our coffee yesterday and she was up until three o 'clock in the morning, oh my gosh, I said why you didn't call us, we have this special phone line, you know, 1 -800 number, divine divine 9, that's the, you know, and she looked at me and said are you serious, I said yeah, we used to have a sex line but we didn't get that busy, so now we have the old days of the 900 numbers and I'll be helping people and, you know, they consume our coffee, yeah, they're so jacked up and high on the coffee, so she got a rocket fuel and she said, you know what, intervention line, this is my coffee shop for everyday now, I used to go to Badass and I said to her, you know, but that's perfect because we have a coffee and then I turned around and I said and better ass, how did you, yeah, she was laughing and she ordered something, she ordered something and she said I want that sandwich, I said what is it, the one I had yesterday, I said what is it, she said chicken clucker, oh the chicken, it's not the mother clucker, no it's chicken clucker, chicken clucker, I said why are you saying chicken is mother clucker and then she started laughing, she just made a new name, chicken clucker, chicken clucker, it's basically chicken chicken, yeah, chicken chicken, chicken clucker, yeah, yeah and after, usually chickens cluck, that's what I'm saying, yeah, so you didn't catch the drift, no because I'm stupid sometimes, well I'm sorry, I'm looking at your face, I'm having to stare at this thing across, I used to be better looking when I was three and then after three years old it just went downhill, that's all right, you're all right, you'll be all right, you'll get over it, so after that we had people from Holland and they are hooked to our podcast now, so we're going international, oh good, well we were doing that anyway because the website divinenapels .com is international anyway, yeah, it's actually the largest hub for everything you need to know about Naples, that's correct, and I don't, what is it, almost 30 websites connected, 23 websites, 23 and 18, how many languages, 18, 18, I see, I remember that number, 18 different languages and that's what we're doing here, that means you know that's stupid then, yeah, I thought you were, no I'm always stupid, half as stupid as I look, but we're all right, yeah, we're doing good, so that's, we're doing good, that was quick, let's get past that, yeah, so I've been browsing through some news and what's going on here, hey why don't you share with us some news, yeah I will share that with you right now because it's Friday and people need to kind of have a weekend to think about it, right, so number one, there are some changes in the, in a lot of the like school buses routes and everything else and they install secret cameras on the buses, oh really, yeah, so if you're gonna be thinking you're gonna pass the bus, you know, monster before, yeah, I call them yellow monsters, yeah, when you see the yellow monster, you want to pass it, pass it, then be careful because they have a, they have a cameras and they read also license plate, so once you get through it, they will send you tickets, yeah, that's not gonna be pretty, yeah, well we need to be safe with kids, right, right, just slow down, so get up and take off to work or wherever you got to go a little early, yeah, but another thing is also they're changing the speed in the school zones, used to be 20 miles an hour, now it's 15, which I'm grateful for because, you know, it's, it's, as he's saying, it's important to, you know, people crossing the streets with kids.

Ken Norton: "Running to the End of the Driveway Has Been a Workout"

"Your races, so your first 5k was UPR'd. That first day of the, when I did the four marathons and on my second day marathon was your first day of a 5k and UPR'd. And so that was really awesome, right? I thought so. And then the next day, the next race was a hilly race. It was really, really hilly. But I was only 30 seconds off from the PR. And then your last race, you PR'd again. I did. Yeah. So, and then now all your practice runs. So for those of you listening, I wouldn't normally have him do a three mile run. But now that he's experienced in a 5k, a three mile run is pretty easy for him. So his practice run... Which is shocking to believe because we get through the 5k and I'm like, really? That's it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So those are things for you to reach out for your, you know, trying to think good things about yourself. It's like, wow, I PR'd. And that's coming from somebody who running to the end of the driveway has been a workout. You know, and going back to before I had the pacemaker put in that walking down the street, I couldn't do. But, you know, seeing my dad go through that, as well as seeing my dad be a weak person struggling with illness, it's encouraging to say, I don't want to live that life. But I also don't want you to live that life. Because I saw what my stepmother went through going to Italy with my dad and he ending up in the hospital. And, you know, it's not the way to see Italy. Or him sitting on a bench while she's out traveling in the city or whatever. And so, yeah, it's not been my purpose to get into running. I've been trying to figure out ways to push back the not going to run the last marathon with you. I've been trying to find ways to do it. But now I don't even want to wait until your 50th marathon to do

A Prayer for the Right Pace

"Prayer for the right pace, written and read by Ashley Moore. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down. Especially the sin that's so easily trips us up and let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12 one. I wouldn't call myself a runner. The longest distance I've ever pounded out on the asphalt was just over three miles for a run, a city hosted. In an attempt to prepare, I wanted to go a little extra and sharing that comrade day, I would successfully complete the mileage required. If I wanted to finish the race, I had to practice. I spent many days leading up to race day, lacing up my sneakers, stretching my calves, and hamstrings, and charting my course for the day. But the learning curve was steep. I would start off strong, allowing that anticipation and nervous energy to fuel me. But then I hit a wall emptying my energy reserves too quickly. I realized running was all about finding the right pace. What about you? How was your pace of life? Your feet hit the floor every morning in a hurry to check your email and get work started so you can coast into the evenings and weekends. Or are you more of a procrastinator? Do you postpone tasks until they can no longer wait, leaving yourself and others in a frenetic crunch to meet deadlines? For me, depending on the day, and task, I fall into both extremes. But that's what both of those categories are. Extremes. And the truth is, there's a healthy tension or for our purposes, there's a healthy pace. Remember the nursery rhyme about the tortoise and the hair, slow and steady is the pace we're looking for because as Christians, we're playing the long game.

"The industry generally I think they have big challenges now as the defense budget probably comes down a bit So I think that we are all responsible and we have an obligation to find the latest and best technologies that we can for our customers and deliver them in the most cost effective manner we can And I think that that's a challenge and an opportunity for all of the big defense companies For more than 40 years now the M1 Abrams has been the U.S. Military's main battle tank It's a 68 time monster that can knock out enemy tanks more than three miles away The Abrams tank was designed at a time in America was prepared to fight Soviet forces in Europe But it passed its toughest test in Iraq in 1991 when it destroyed a huge Iraqi armored force The U.S. Army has 2000 Abrams tanks and service and they're all built by General Dynamics I got to see the Abrams up close Sounds pretty solid to me And watched it muscle through a course at speeds above 43 mph To operate the soldiers 18 and older complete a 6 week training course I meet the age requirement but I think I'll stick to the family car Let's go through the major divisions you have at General Dynamics So one is the marine systems Now before you became the CEO you were the head of marine systems Is that correct I think I've got it right There were 68 submarines now in the entire U.S. Navy fleet Do we really need a lot more submarines Or we just kind of replacing the ones we have Or do we need more than 68.

"One is quite sure exactly what happened but at ten eighteen pm there was a loud crash. The seminars reported as sounding like metal and timber falling down. This probably a crane or one of the booms which had collapsed then. There was the sound of an explosion and then a fire about five. To seven seconds later there was a massive explosion that destroyed the entire facility. It was one of the largest explosions in history up until that point pilots in the air at the time saw a fireball three miles into the air. The blast was felt in boulder city nevada. Four hundred thirty miles away. There was damaged onto buildings in san francisco forty eight miles away debris landed over two miles away and the plane which witnessed it said it's all white hot debris shooting past it. At an altitude of seven thousand feet. It coastguard fireboat near the pier was thrown six hundred feet or one hundred and eighty meters away where it eventually landed in the water and sank. There were three hundred and twenty men and the peer when the explosion occurred all of them died instantly. Two thirds of the dead. Were african american enlisted men who were working on the dock. In fact this explosion by itself was responsible for fifteen percent of all of the african american deaths in the second world war. I've got a previous episode on the halifax harbour explosion during world war one. The portugual explosion wasn't quite as large. But it wasn't too far away the biggest difference and the reason why the fatalities were lower. Portugal is that there were no civilians on the base. There were two hundred and fifty other injuries and of the men who were killed only fifty one wherever identified an inquiry was launched only four days after the explosion and the ruling was that it was probably the fault of one of the enlisted men. Nothing was mentioned about the poor safety conditions and the lack of training

Don't we're going to die and my next door. Was i thought the russian government. I thought there was an attack on america. I thought this was this. My i thought i thought it was a military attack. Why on the country that. That was crazy. So i take the the boxes and go downstairs just like you said veneta but this there was still cars out. People were. He was stunned at that moment crying in the street. Yes yes yes. People were crying calling in. The few people were crying in the street. I never seen this before. Because to be honest i don't know i don't think any of us knew what was going to happen that you get what i'm saying. Base has set down the trains There was some buses that was still going but the bus so pat. I mean it was like hanging off the bat it was. It was literally looked like on again so nobody knew like we didn't know i didn't know how my kids again. We didn't know if another claims look like it was crazy. It was it was crazy. You know my brother went to school down block in the world trade. He came out the training. And my my brother's six nine. He's real stuff. He came out the trains his back to the world trade center so he said all you knew was. The security guard was y. You know man run and he'd rather looking at like what does he always papers was flying down out the sky but he's still didn't he didn't he didn't have his he. He's a boy. What i'm a call you back. He was some of those group of kids that they had to evacuate over the staten island to other schools and stuff and staten island and he said when he hit battery park was when the towers came down. And i'm talking. And when they finally got we got to him maybe like a day later. Who got home to. He slept about twelve hours straight like he was sold out of it. Like i think we all will just traumatized by it. You know right so wait a minute. Women he was he missing. Didn't know where he was. Put a few minutes or hours. Yeah it was a few hours. We didn't know i was a kid back then. Kids have beepers and my brothers. They didn't they didn't have snow. He'd have cell phones and stuff so when it got to. Staten island was when they were able to call. You know the parents and stuff like that. He went to high school of leadership in public service and Incidentally the high school was destroyed so they actually had to. I think they was in fashion high school for a while until they're building with able to be you know entered into again. Wow what a story. Yeah we're on. You know we just we just keep it real right now you you and your family was blessed. Wanted a few one of the few families and folks that got they loved ones back. I know in that window time for those few hours. It must have been horrific for your family right because people that know where people were exactly exactly so so now. I see people see people crying. Industry not got the van right. I tried the van down. Madison avenue down lexington. Make that right. Turn on thirty ninth street. Every morning for years. I parked the van on madison. Now everyone the scene that you described with crying and walking now all that's going on. Yeah it was a slacks people thousands of walking the streets right now now. Almost thirty ninth and more madison in thirty nine street park on madison. The world trade center is a few miles down the road. South at the end of the borough of manhattan right right. Maybe i our saved. Maybe no more than three miles. Four miles maybe five miles the max. I don't even think it's that long you can stat odor in the air. You could smell it from midtown on smelt like fuel smell like cigarettes. Smell like an ashtray. With salat going on. I walk to because this guy was working with me. One of my help was a half way for him to get off the train. I walk guys. I walked to fortieth fifth avenue. The next block. Over right and what i saw was something that i would never that would be embedded for the rest of my life. I saw that building turning to build the one the one that the I don't know which one it was. It was burning. It was a big hole in it. You could clearly see it from fortieth street and madison avenue now. Here's the thing that freaked me out about nine eleven. There was a calling guys which nine eleven started. Just went on of these folks. There was a fire station. Or fifty first street and lexington. Every and i see every day this is just because i like i said i worked this same area every day right.

"Fran tell us about what you saw that day in new york and how you reacted beautiful tuesday morning and i was at home which was about a mile away from the world trade center. And it's a beautiful day. And i was contemplating playing hooky and conjuring up a medical appointment when i got a call from The new york office. Michael stearns who said turn on your tv a plane has just crashed into the world trade center. Well being a pilot and knowing that that midair alley I assumed it was a small plane that had gone into the world trade center only to discover. Of course it was not. We didn't know what was happening at the time b. then joined forces with the washington bureau on telephone conversation and i was eventually dispatched a downtown but how to get downtown. Because subways have closed down. So i walked about a mile to the world trade center. We're hundreds of people had gathered clear. Jay students from nyu friends and family of those who are in the world trade center trying to find out what had happened but not knowing what had happened. Of course the un no longer a reporter An external force Trying to piece together a story but you. You're a victim as well and i had to battle my own personal fears of terror. We did not know what was happening and The one beautiful thing there with that The clergy with comforting people all types of clergy. It was a beautiful moment where there was a lot of love extended to people who totally panicked so now what started with trying to find out factual information which was few and far between the tv tower had gone down in the tax and We were just piecing together various bits of data that were coming in from all over from local authorities from rescue teams From the military from the faa and from Lower manhattan when there was nothing else to do. We walked back to the office which is about three miles to see the world changing. They were armed. Guards national guardsmen with rifle drawn. Their fighter jets flying overhead. And this was no longer the world we knew. Then we're back to the office. We started scrambling to get The factual

"Let's talk about that a little bit because with that simplicity. You said something in our first conversation. That i still think about today. Which is somebody earning the right to a certain exercise. Yeah when you said that like that was a shift in my because these are things that i think about what you put words to it and so getting to a place where we earned the right to do more advanced things. What are those foundational things for every one of us that we need to invoke in our lives just for basic culture and functionality. Who've i mean there's certain things that we need to be able to do in our life we need to be able to sit on a toilet. I just it just how it is all my telling you to put a bar on your back and start squatting wagner pounds no but we have to start establishing those basic movements. I think with us in the amount of sitting that we do all the time we start losing this elasticity in muscles and that's why our body really starts feeling like junk so on day one of my take someone who hasn't moved in ten years and i'm going to get them to imply metrics no but the goal is to get those joints get some lubrication those joints y'all get some elasticity in those muscles and get them to the point where i can get the moving again like they did as a kid. Now it's all at a different level because certain people yeah we might not be doing a fifty inch box. But i accept that but if i can take someone in their fifties who came in with back pain and in time maybe work with our team of physical therapists or maybe work with You know our team of nutritionist to get inflammation to calm down and then in time we see that their body allow sleeps improving while we got fifteen minutes. Extra sleep every night thirty minutes extra. We're in the right direction. How you feeling body's feeling better not feeling so tight. I'm getting out of the car and i can. Actually i feel like i could job across the street. I we're into something maybe. Let's start with some light jogging. How much three miles. no like. Five to ten seconds. Let's see how your body feels just reestablishing that movement. I think when we do that you would be surprised on how good you can get your body to

"more than three miles" Discussed on 53/39 Cycling Podcast

"Try to sneak in longer rides. It's it's been hard this year. I have not been writing as much unfortunately training for a marathon. I've never done a marathon decided. Part of my peleton. This year would be doing a marathon. I'd never run more than three miles my entire life. So i've been spending a little more time running. Still getting that road fifty miles on saturday and then a blown tire. Unfortunately so we were going for a metric century. Man i actually my strava had me recorded at forty nine point nine nine miles and my cepeda at nineteen point nine miles. An hour is but my wall who had said fifty and twenty. But like sometimes strava has like that little bit of like difference when you upload it. now's like oh my god that's one of those moments. Whatever you think about drastic park with the it. What's so fun about cycling and columbus in particular. Is everybody's out wearing a palestinian jersey. Whether it's huntington jersey or you know one we've given him and there's at that camaraderie that sort of silent camaraderie. That goes on with that and you look at someone you know their training for that same event in that event you know that's coming up means something to them in a very personal and that's that's special. Yeah that caught my attention a lot. When i was in columbus for that in two thousand nineteen was how many people twenty five miles per peleton is like a really long distance for them. And that's that's like the equivalent of a century to them but they were really blows me away. As the non cyclists that will do the out and back over two days which is two hundred miles. Yeah and easy and they're not cyclist but there's they have a story at an and i love hearing their stories because there's a reason that they're they're doing that and that typically they're the ones that fundraise on an individual level really well because they're so good at telling their story because it means so much to them and that's what really kind of blew me away was the amount of non cyclists that aren't just doing the twenty five mile route. I mean they're doing most people come napolitano's a non cyclist and then okay. A lot of people realize they really like it. I mean i came to palestinians. a non cyclists borrow a bike trained for the summer. And i did it. None of after the first ride. I was like my good shape. Kinda like this. You know it's fun at social So i ended up buying my first bike. My first road bike in two thousand twelve after my twenty eleven ride. Get a canon. Del cad ten. Oh nice aluminum frame yeah. It was nice. I ended up upgrading. The wheels a couple years later..

What Your Pre-Run Warmup Routine Should Look Like

"Let's Hop on over to those questions and this is from jenny who wonders about warm ups and she seems to have stopped to call in this question. Which i know you always love. Hey guys it is. Jenny from allen texas and i m in the warm up a temple workout in one of your half marathon training plans and then just thinking should i be doing strides in this one. Look like in the one mile warmer i into some work I worry about this Wonder it and say that you can answer this question. Take care guys many happy. Well hello jenny. Speaking of the portland retreat or forward to seeing you add it. I know you and some of your buddies from texas convening here so looking forward to that okay all right back to your question i agree. It can seem jarring to jump into a really challenging. You know kinda turn on the turbo jets to do tempo. Or you know other speedier work after quote unquote just a mile or two warm-up i find the older i get the more time i need to warm up so i'll share what i do But i coach timoti offer guidance. Well i think i think The amount of warm up you need directly correlates with age. So i mean i feel like you know if you were a twenty five mile would feel really long. Can't we just get this workout. So i think you know what we did in most the train like a mother plan. Is we try to be super efficient with your time knowing that. You know we don't want to give you. I mean there are some plans for sure that have longer than sixty minutes on the weekdays marathon and training plans and that kind of thing because you have to put into mileage there but we really want to make you know be able to give you work outs. That are compact bite size and doable as possible. So the good news is that you can add anything like as long as you're going at an easy pace you can easily add onto a warm up at onto a cool down. There is no problem there. So if two miles feels better if two and a half miles feels better. You can absolutely do that. You're going to talk a little bit about dynamic warm ups so we can talk about that as well. That might also be a good way to kind of get your body blood flowing and then go into a mile but if you feel like you need one point three miles one point. Seven miles in your schedule allows for

Cairo's Mummy Parade Goes Smoothly

"Cairo over the weekend, stirring up concerns about a so called curse of the pharaohs, 18 kings and four queens were paraded in special shock, absorbing vehicles for about three miles to their new home in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilizations. The move reignited talk on social media about the curse, which has been blamed for recent incidents like the ship blocking the Suez Canal, a train crash that left dozens dead last month and a building collapse in Cairo. Thicker stems from a warning on the tomb of King Tut, that red death will come on quick wings for those who disturb the King's peace. Michael Kastner, a prank a couple pulled that Disney world
