Gloria Johnson: North Korea Has More Democracy Than Tennessee

"So one of these lawmakers, her name is Gloria Johnson. And she's a piece of work this one. Here's what she had to say, a cut number 11. You know, I feel like North Korea has more democracy than we do in the state of Tennessee. There's a woman. And it's terrifying to me that we're in this march to fascism and it seems like the Tennessee supermajority is leading the charm. A local lawmaker from Knoxville joined with protesters at the state capitol earlier this week, asking for stricter gun laws. Breaking tonight house resolutions have been filed to expel three democratic representatives, speaker Cameron Sexton says it's necessary. I believe their actions rises to the level of being expelled. One of those representatives is Gloria Johnson who represents district 90 here in Knox county. Why are they so afraid of an in depth debate on their legislation on the house for? Let me tell you why. People want gun sense legislation. This idea that I'm hearing from my colleagues and from the governor, well, what Kate gun laws because criminals don't follow the law. Why are we here? That's what we do. We make a law. Tennessee stands to lose. 70 thousand, the voices of 70,000 tennesseans that I serve in my district. Between the three of us, me and representative Pearson and representative Jones. That's over 200,000. And when my folks sent me here, the new I was vocal. And they knew I would stand up and I would be their voice. And that's why they sent me here. There's no question about that. Everybody in the state knows that.

"Democrat party partnering with the Mexican cartels in effect that's what they're doing Betsy McAuliffe does a fantastic job of making this point the other day She says the Mexican drug cartels are killing off our friends and family members with fentanyl manufactured in super lab south of the border And smuggled into the United States And Joe Biden could care less Biden is in Mexico claiming he's seeking the Mexican government's help to stop the car and its truth is The trip is a dog and pony show photo ops empty promises They'll be followed by rapid backsliding Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador lacks both the will and the muscle to tackle the cartels bet she's an excellent writer Which had paramilitary forces that outgun the Mexican police and control swaths of territory Biden for his part is no intention of securing the southern border The only measure that actually would stop the flow of killer drugs into our towns in schools Biden wants migrants to continue illegally entering by the millions even though the onslaught is diverting border patrol agents From detecting fentanyl smugglers border patrol agents are being pulled from drug interdiction and other law enforcement duties to process and care for migrants The Democrats are willing to pay that price In order to swell the nation with new migrants Democrats are handing America over to the drug cartels The drug cartels which profit by trafficking in human beings as well as drugs are double winners Who are the losers American families losing their loved ones to fentanyl overdoses over 70,000 Americans are dying yearly from fentanyl lace drugs Including 30,000 young people aged 15 to 34

"John, a House committee recommended that Donald Trump be prosecuted for his role in the January 6th assault on the U.S. capitol. The first ever such referral of a former president. Panel member representative Jamie Raskin said it would disqualify Trump from holding office if convicted. I don't know what our legacy is going to be. I hope that our legacy will be an unswerving devotion to the facts, the rule of law, and the constitution. Representative Raskin says the full report will be released later this week. The Supreme Court granted a temporary stay on the immigration restriction known as title 42, it was expiring tomorrow the 19 Republican led states filed an appeal for some cities like El Paso, Texas that have seen an influx of thousands waiting to cross the border in a recent days. The stay comes as relief as they begin to prepare for a mass migration to begin once title 42 is eventually left it. It will pass so mayor Oscar Lisa praised the Biden administration's work with the city's preparations. The federal government has been really good Daryl Paso to be honest with you. "You have this book out Come on man About Biden's I would like to cuss right now but I won't Let's call it crappy presidency Here's my question to you Yes How the hell did you keep this book under the word count What did they tell you We're looking for 70,000 words You could have written 700,000 words You could have ridden Anna karenina How the hell did you fit this kind of content into one book Dan you know that's the best question I received so far Thank you I got to tell you it's like a movie and you got something like that that's like the movie version of war and peace There's so much material to work with When I have 700,000 I just confined it to the most egregious examples of this man who somehow has failed upwards his entire life when you think about it They law school He says hey I finished at the top of my class No he finished at the bottom Then he runs for president in 1988 and he has to drop out due to plagiarism which is a recurring theme throughout his life And then even as a senator as a vice president and now as president profoundly below average yet this is what we have settled for because we had a media that was so hell bent on getting out the 45th president They didn't bother to look very much under the hood of what was coming with the 46 president and now you see him polling and Joe Biden lower than any first term president in polling history going all the way back to Harry S. than 2700 journalists and analysts in more than 120 countries I'm leann gerrans this is a Bloomberg Anna Thanks very much Leanne Now as the S&P flirted with the bear market on Friday is there any end in sight to the volatility in these markets or indeed the selling of stocks We're joined by yogic dewan CEO and founding partner at hacienda asset management You really nice to speak to you I ask if there's any end to the selling of stocks and of course today we see a bounce in stocks to stock it up by 9 tenths of a percent but you know that could be short lived given the volatility we've seen of late Yogi do you see reasons to keep selling or to buy stocks at these levels You know what You're quite right on Friday we saw flirtation with bear market territory but we bounced back quite strongly futures up about 1% This morning the vix is down at 28 the members I was around 34 You know what It's really hard to see an end to the volatility short term So we're expecting to see more volatility markets are trying to find the bottom inflation looks like it's peaking I guess it all comes down to rate high expectations and we see the rate high expectations with overstated So we're expecting fewer hikes as growth actually slows So we're not far off the bottom from our perspective And we are looking at one of those where buying opportunities over the longer term It's an entry point into calls Maybe not this week maybe not next week But ultimately it comes back down to earnings and U.S. Q one earnings season as actually been quite positive I know it's been a bit mixed with what actually happened on Friday than Thursday with target and Walmart However we've seen 7% earnings growth We've seen 12% revenue growth for calendar year 2022 we're expecting earnings growth of 10% and revenues growth of 10% That's the 5th straight quarter of year on year revenue growth above 10% That's got to be a reasonable assignment thing to slowly improving despite all the news flow To where are you looking then for opportunities if you feel that there's so much growth out there to be had Well let me restate what you're saying there It's a volatile period there's a lot of uncertainty We're not bullish in the sense that you've implied I guess we prefer equities relative to bonds in our balanced portfolios We've added to a whole range of inflation sensitive names We focused on things like infrastructure we focused on things like healthcare we've looked at select value equity positions into the broader equity market weakness that we've seen So some names in Europe have actually done quite well despite what's actually going on At some stage we will look by technology on the dip The numbers that came out for Q one earnings were pretty lousy but that was general profit taking in an overvalued sector We've also looked at some Japanese exposure as well and of course let's not forget the UK's last year to date whilst the U.S. is down 18% Granted that sort of very low baseline but things aren't looking as bad as markets in the narrative is suggesting Okay yes FTSE 100 Actually well yeah flat You're right I'll put a tenth of a percent versus your stocks 50 down 14% That's that down 27 S&P 500 down 18 these were all year to date percentages Of course so that's where we are in terms of the geography I wonder sticking with geography in fact I wonder what you make of China and the weakness there because we're all very focused on how they fight COVID-19 and what that's doing to the economic part of the equation if you like and that certainly weighing on sentiment it's weighed on sentiment in recent weeks and perhaps it should have weighed on sentiment more than it did overnight because we've got these headlines around Beijing How do you find that the China theme plays into your analysis at the moment given the role of the world's second largest economy Yes China is a very difficult geographic region to actually play at the moment You've got GDP growth of 4.8% China's clearly not coming to Putin's risk with respect to what's going on in Russia They started to withdraw from Russian markets to the key things here is China's down about 14% year to date The COVID case numbers which is really what's driving growth in the moment of starting the declining trajectory So that's good news The other thing is that China along with other emerging markets are going to benefit from higher commodity crisis And they're also buying cheap Russian oil That Stephen Yeah an interesting one to watch Stay with us on daybreak Europe coming up on the next day of time Mackenzie and Carlin hapg will be back for the last hour of Bloomberg daybreak Europe And they'll be looking at the iPhone survey from Germany for the month of May we'll be looking at what that key German economic barometer is looking at and how it will perform given the impact of the war in Ukraine It is now down below its long-term average and we'll be discussing that with one of our guests coming up just after.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib - Who Earns $174,000 - Wants Taxpayers to Pay off Her Student Loans

"Rashida Tlaib, talking about student loan forgiveness, which is a top priority, a demand of the American left, listen to her. I worked full-time Monday through Friday and took weekend classes to get my law degree, and still close to $200,000 in debt. And I still over $70,000. If most of it was interest most of it was our own government making money and profit off of me. And guess what, I didn't go to the for profit entities. I went to legal aid. I worked at the nonprofit organization fighting for the right to breathe clean air to fight for the worker that was getting their wage taken and stolen from their employer. I went and worked on immigrant rights and so much more. And all of that to say, we have to stop treating as if folks that are paying for education as if they bought some bougie car or some big, you know, something beyond no. They were seeking an education. That woman makes almost $200,000 a year. And she wants you to pay for her college education. I mean, she's very clear about it. She did nice things. She worked for immigrants rights and she did a lot of nice things. A lot of altruistic things. She didn't buy a bougie car. She got a law degree. So now you pay for that law degree. You have to pay for her education. That's the mindset. And again, $174,000 a year salary. Do you make a $174,000 a year? 70,000 can I ask you a personal question? If you made a $174,000 a year, would you expect it's just everybody else to pay for your bills?

Are We Getting the Full Truth on Afghanistan?

"You know, I just have to take exception to some of my friends on TV and radio. They just do. We were not at war in Afghanistan for 20 years. We had troops in Afghanistan. Our combat forces were removed in 2014. We were in a backup role for the most part. To the Afghan military. Intelligence. Air power. And we trained as the Wall Street Journal pointed out. The Afghan military. Basically fight is the American military does Coordination of troops with their power, Obviously no naval power necessary. And with Intelligence. It's a relatively big country. With all kinds of very difficult. Mountainous areas and so forth, so intelligence is crucial. When you pull out the air support, and you don't even tell The forces you're aligned with that you're doing that. When in the dark of night you remove your forces. From the major air base there that was actually quite protected. And you pull out your intel officials, your intel people. And when Biden says the Afghan army doesn't know how to fight in general, Keane says what they've lost between 50 and 70,000 of their own men. We're not getting all the truth here. Ladies and gentlemen, including from Libertarians, never Trumpers. Isolationists and so forth. Goal isn't to relitigate this. My goal is just to be honest about

And I want you to know that, uh, as I did point out yesterday were not only number one on the New York Times, hardcover nonfiction New York Times hardcover and E book combined nonfiction. The final numbers for the first week came in. Hardcover books, 330,000 E books and audio. Another 70,000. So all told all format 400,000 copies. American Marxism were sold. Because of you. Purchasing it for yourself. Other people, family members and so forth. And this week. The numbers are also significant as best as I can see. And so I believe this movement is for real. I believe this movement is growing. I believe the Americans who are patriotic who love this country, and we far outnumber the others. Want to understand exactly what's taking place. Who's doing it to us where this comes from, and Some ideas many ideas from what we should do about it.

Coronavirus Deaths Reach 3 Million Worldwide

"From the Corona virus has now topped three million people. That's more than the population of Chicago. The tally by Johns Hopkins University shows as of Saturday morning, more than 566,000 people in the United States have died of confirmed covert 19 infections. But other countries have also suffered staggering tolls. Brazil is next on the list with more than 368,000 deaths part by Mexico, where more than 211,000 people have died. In India, where the toll has topped 175,000, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia and France have all seen more than 100,000 deaths. And World Health Organization chief Dr Ted Ross at Nam Cabrera says says the numbers continue to rise at worrying rates globally. The number of new cases per week has nearly doubled over the past two months. This is approaching the highest rate of infection that we have seen so far during the pandemic infection rates are rising in the U. S. Is well director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr Rachel Wolinsky. Our seven day average is up to 69,500. Nearly 70,000 new cases per day and, along with that emergency room visits and hospital admissions. But Wolinsky adds, vaccination efforts are making significant progress. More than one third of the U. S population has received at least one dose and more than 1/5 of the population is fully vaccinated. Lipsky says. Relax prevention efforts such as Mask mandates are one reason for the rising rates and another is the continued spread of highly transmissible variance more than Feed a 70% more transmissible, which makes the race to stop the transmission even more challenging and threatens to overwhelm our health care system again in parts of this country.
