Caller: Schools Should Upgrade to Laminated Glass
"From my understanding took 15 minutes to respond. Which for a couple $100 was probably been enough time to prevent the perp from entering the building and for a couple of $1000 for instance, why it definitely would have. Talking about laminated glass. Four or $500 more for opening. I've been in the business 30 years with a hammer and a pair of glass gloves that take me 5 to ten minutes to get into. Wow. So that which could be the difference between life and death. They could give the police time to show up. Specification for hurricane glass that would have been a maybe 2000 for opening more. Right. And it's 9 sixteenths impact. Well, I mean, I mean, there's no doubt FD and I appreciate your perspective and it sounds like you know your stuff. Our schools are soft targets. Bitcoin at $1,000,000 in 90 Days? The Insane Bet by Balaji Srinivasan
"Bitcoin to $1 million in 90 days? That's what the former CTO of coinbase thinks and more than a few people are taking him seriously. All right Friends, welcome back to another Bitcoin breakdown bite. We are talking about obviously the same thing that everyone is talking about, which, as it turns out, might be the point. That is biology, srinivasan, the former CTO of coinbase, and generally highly regarded if out there sometimes thinker, he has predicted that Bitcoin will go to $1 million inside the next 90 days, largely because of societal collapse on the back of the banking system. So McKenna here sums this up, biology thinks, most banks are insolvent in the U.S., Bitcoin goes to 1 million 90 days, hyperinflation is imminent, converted 99% of net worth to Bitcoin, U.S. Civil War happens, effing wild. All right, so we obviously today are going to get into what exactly biology is talking about and then all the responses and I'll give you a little bit of my take at the end of it. So, a few days ago, biology put up this tweet called the bit signal. He says, how do you ring the fire alarm on the Internet? How do you show it's not a false alarm? I'm putting up the bit signal. Now, this first version of this tweeter, this first tweet was basically a request for people to share the best charts, graphs, statistics that show effectively how screw the current financial system is, the type of thing that biology argues you wouldn't get from normal mainstream media and he was going to give a $1000 in Bitcoin for the best thousand tweets. He is arguing here that the existing system, the central bankers, et cetera, have hid insolvency from us and they're about to print a huge amount of money in order to save themselves from that. And so Bitcoin is likely to be the recipient, but more than just Bitcoin, it's about the underlying story. So that went up on March 16th. Then the next day, on March 17th, someone says, I'll bet anyone $1 million that the U.S. does not enter hyperinflation. James medlock is a neoliberal guy or whatever, I guess he says social Democrat in the streets, market socialists in the sheets. And so he has this bet on Twitter and biology says I will take that bet. You buy one Bitcoin, I will send 1 million USD odds 40 to one odds as Bitcoin is worth about 26 term is 90 days. Blah, blah, blah, blah, and all the terms and stuff. And this just set the Internet on fire.

Mini-Grids 101 With Erick Hersman, Co-Founder of Gridless
"To start out, Eric, I just want to talk about the mini grid economics. That was something that you and Peter talked about a decent amount, but I want a little bit more information out of you if I can. So I'm thinking about the cost to get these mini grids online, finding the location for them and keeping it running. My understanding is that you partner with people who have already built these things and you guys aren't necessarily building them yourselves, but just from working with those partners, what are the aspects you're looking at in order to get a mini grid site online? Yeah, thanks. So it's been really interesting. We've been having our crash course in energy training this last year and a half or so. And it's been interesting. It's been fun. And it's also been one of those educational experiences. So when we're dealing with mini grids, we're kind of on the edge of rural Africa that has the beginnings of electrification and not a great amount of usage yet. So if you think about it, there's 1.1 billion people around the world who don't have electricity. 600 million of them are in Africa. So over half. And that means that this continent has the most area still to be electrified, which is a massive opportunity, and Bitcoin mining is actually going to pay for that. Bitcoin mining pays for electricity to be pushed further out because the normal consumers and those locations don't actually have the usage and demand yet to use it all. And the economies of scale for a mini grid provider can be really, really, I guess, upsetting, if you're an investor, there's a tyranny of a small size problem, right? Which is, you know, you can have a mini grid and let's say a mini grid hydro is going in. He's going to put in 200 kW. It might cost him about $4000 per kilowatt to put that in. If he was put in two megawatts, it would cost him about a $1000 per kilowatt.

And there are people out there that say, I don't know, I don't know. And I believe you have to be around people who live this way because if unless you see it, you can't believe that they're the people who do this way. So I began that when I first became a Christian in 1988, I was at St. Paul's Darien. We've had my friend Keith junta on the show. I saw people who live this way, and then we all started going to Times Square church. And the people at Times Square church tended to live this way. David wilkerson, who was your friend for 40 years, lived this way. And I remember he preached a sermon. We talked about it at dinner last night. The sermon was titled right song, wrong side. I love it. And I was so affected by this sermon that over 20 years later, when I was asked to preach a Times Square church, I said, I bet you most of the people in this room have never heard this. So I halfway preached that sermon again. And that sermon sums up what we're talking about. David wow, because I mean, it's such a brilliant idea. He says that when the Israelites were trapped at the Red Sea, and pharaoh's armies coming down on them, and they're freaking out. Well, we know what happened. God parts the Red Sea. They go through. They come out the other side. The seas come back together. Pharaoh's army is drowned, and then when they're on the other side of the Red Sea, they sing the song. Then they sing. They sing the song praising God and praising God, and David wilkerson preach a sermon talking about they should have sung that song of deliverance before God delivered them because if you know who God is, you praise him in the midst of trouble. Yes. When bad things happen, you say, ah, this is a Friends are perfecting us. I thank God for every bad thing that's happened in our lives. Karen and I both do because we see our growth spurts are in times of trouble. We don't grow when we're in the mountaintop. It's during those tough times that we learn who God is. I thank God for all the tough times, including the death of our daughter. She's in heaven's celebrate. She's having the time of her life right now. And I'm going to be with her for eternity. So a thousand people came to her funeral. And I spoke at the funeral. There's a video of her funeral, okay? Because it was like, I knew most people watching me would not be Christians. And I wanted to say that my joy was not affected by circumstances. You know there's an interesting happiness and joy. What the Silvergate Death Spiral Means for the Crypto Industry
"So today we're going to dig into not only why silvergate is crashing, but how it got to this point, and what its death spiral means for the industry. Let's start at the beginning. Silvergate bank is a medium sized crypto friendly bank based in California. For most of its 30 year history, silvergate was a tiny community bank focused on financing smaller real estate deals. It had only three branches and less than $1 billion in bank assets. In 2016, under the leadership of CEO Alan lane, the bank pivoted to providing banking services to crypto firms. Ben Reynolds silvergate president, who is hired to oversee this change in business strategy said, we need to deposit an Allen started seeing that companies like coinbase were getting kicked out of banks. So the idea was, if we can bank coinbase, we can find deposits. Allen went to the Federal Reserve and said we want to provide basic banking services to Bitcoin companies and they said okay. Over the next 6 years, silvergate downsized its existing business banking and real estate teams to lean heavily into crypto. In 2016, the bank had only 20 crypto clients, including paxos and bit fury, but this number grew to over 1000. This rapid expansion in dealing with the early crypto industry came with a large increase in compliance risk and overhead. According to anonymous sources speaking with Financial Times, silvergate had to hire twice as many compliance staff as comparable banks of its size. Waiting times for compliance checks on new customers ballooned out to 6 months. One of FT's sources said quote, when they got into it, crypto was this little new thing, and I think they didn't realize it would take off as fast as it did. So then they put all their chips in that direction, it ran away from them, it got very big very quickly. Now part of the reason that silvergate were able to achieve such a prominent position in the crypto ecosystem was the launch of their silvergate exchange network or sen in 2017. Said enabled crypto firms to immediately transfer U.S. dollars to other account holders at silvergate, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Funds would be cleared near instantly and could be used immediately. While this feature might not have an obvious use case for the average retail trader, for large crypto funds this opened up the possibility of conducting arbitrage trades across exchanges at a much faster speed, while also allowing funds held on exchanges to be topped up after hours or on weekends.
