"Finally pedro. You've already said that. He's only really had twenty days in l. a. But how mookie betts fitting into the fabric of the dodgers clubhouse it seems like pretty well a lot of those things that i just described the competitiveness the outrageous standards they apply to the dodgers organization. This is a team that is deeply disappointed when they make the playoffs. And don't advance the world series. Sweet a fly ball shallow center racing on his taylor closing on it dives diving catch in the series. Wanna play by michael taylor but diving catch for the nationals. For the first time in their history what play in the national league championship series and so they brought him in essentially to be. The last case happens remains to be seeing. The seasons. Obviously complicating anything like that in terms of baseball's already so unpredictable it's massively more unpredictable and the playoff system change the day of the season. The day of the season started. And you know this year. There's far greater of an opportunity for an upstart team to unseat him into a three game playoff series or five game. And so everything's unknown. The what would they do know. Is this mookie betts himself. The dodgers have high standards of themselves. It's a good match. Peter thank you so much for joining us. "Hey everyone today. Were replaying an episode that first aired on the show back in july shortly after. Mookie betts signed with the dodgers. The athletics pedro at takes us inside the mind of the superstar outfielder and helps us understand how he became so competitive and not just a baseball from wondering athletic. I'm keith davidson. And i'm also it's wednesday november fourth and this is the lead it felt like something great was something about the emotion and on the past. Because this isn't a story read the athlete. It stays with you. So pedro for anyone. Who hasn't watched. Mookie betts allot. Can you just give us a quick snapshot of what he does so well on the baseball field. The genius of nokia bets is that he is a very small man especially for a baseball player. Los Angeles Dodgers' Betts awarded 5th straight Gold Glove

MLB awards: Finalists unveiled for Manager of the Year
"The fact that MLB started doing this naming the three finalists. Am I telling you for the past couple of years, and they've they've announced the finalists for the major awards day towards being handed out next week Monday. Next Monday, is Rookie of the year man to the years next Tuesday. Cy Young is on Wednesday and then m V P, of course, is on Thursday. So to me, the most interesting one is the manager of the year, especially in the American League and usually like man who cares, But I think it's very interesting because The three guys who they've picked in the American League to be the manager of the year. One of them is Kevin Cash, who had a fantastic regular season but has been blasted for one managerial movie made in the World Series, which was taking Blake snout too early. Yeah, he pulled a Dave Roberts. Yeah, and it makes no sense to me at all. Why he would do that, And he's going to say it's the analytics. But if you look at the numbers Blake they're actually the third time through the lineup is better than he is the second time through the lineup. And he was making them look ridiculous. Absolutely. I mean, it was. It was just stupid. How bad they looked any just struck out the top three guys in the orders twice. So that means none of them had made contact Justin Turner. Mookie Betts. Corey Seager had made zero contact, and that's the Yoon said Betts doesn't swing and miss. He makes contact and he was he made. That's look ridiculous. He absolutely didn't know that. But this year better actually hit worse against lefties. Entity is right. But that's beside the point. Yes, so Kevin Cash is one Of the three managers. Charlie Montoya. The Bluejays is another one, which I think is great. And I think it's hilarious that the third manager of the heirs, Rick Renteria, who is no longer manage manager, he was relieved of his job. So we have a guy who made a horrible managerial decision guy who's no longer managing, then you're trying. Montoya.
World Series Game 6: Rays decision to pull Blake Snell immediately backfires
"Kevin cash taking up. Blake, Snell in the sixth inning last night with one and one out and a one nothing lead snow had been brilliant to that point no runs no walks nine strikeouts. The move backfired immediately the dodgers got two quick runs off Nick Anderson added another later in the game on a home run by Mookie Betts and won the world series. We'll bond. Can you defend what cash did? No And I don't WanNa hear anybody else tried defended either because some things are just indefensible and this is one of them Tony I I'm offended by what I saw last night just somebody who grew up on baseball whose I love and sport was baseball played baseball pitch and just offensive. So numbers are so important to you Kevin cash that you can't use your eyes which is supposed to be professionally trained and steeled, and you've been benched coach and manager then all these days and you don't know when you need to leave the guy alone you. WanNa, take the game away from the players take the game away from a starting pitcher whose lights out who the other team is. Now, not afraid of going Oh my God is shaking their heads and you don't have the baseball since in you to leave him alone and ride your good fortune to have this guy going this. Well, totally I was in contact via text with a couple of former recent former notable major league baseball players, and they were as startled about this development as I was and I just couldn't. No. There's no defending it. Yeah I'M GONNA. Give it a shot at defending human I'm going to preface it by saying if we don't learn from history, we're always going to be doomed to repeat it Kevin. Cash. Has Seen Blake Snell. He has managed Blake Snell for years. Now he's seen them all year. He hasn't gone through the sixth all year I'm going to read from my notes Ziara in these playoffs in the first four innings where he's been great as one point three, five from then on it's twelve point five, six last week Snell no hit the dodgers for four and two thirds and Then, in rapid order walk homer walk single and cash has seen all of this the last guy up before he gave him, the Hook was the ninth patron, the order, and he hit a rope to center field, and now at this point you've got bets and you've got SEGER coming up for a third time. The mistake isn't Yanking Snell to me the mistake is putting in Anderson Innocence the wrong guy in the regular season he's lights out but in the playoffs is over five and Mike and his last six appearances, he's allowed to run I I I understand that Kevin? Is. An. Easy target and a totally legitimate target. I just think in this case, he had seen Snell all year and the hulk wasn't as bad as what he did home. You're not playing lifetime achievement. You're playing the damn game tonight right? You is your sense of everything. This is your livelihood I don't care what he did last week. This guy has given up one hard hit ball maybe a second heart. It Ball. Alright. So yes, you got what you're saying about bringing a guy in who's been lit up lately I don't WanNa go that far I don't care who he had going warmed up. You have got a guy on the mound that has the other people in the other Doug. If you're a manager the time we know you're watching them to and they are shaking their heads when they walk back to. The dugout he has stymied them. If you're not smart if all you're doing is playing probability Tony, then go work at the win in Vegas I don't WanNa see you near a baseball diamond. So let me go back into this for a second because it's something we'll have to live with if he never wins forever in the way that great little does the way the Darryl bevill does. Making these what appear to be bonehead calls but I would tell you Dave Roberts said the same thing with Clayton Kershaw he let him pitched to two batters in the sixth inning whenever it was and he knew that Ziara after a certain point was bad and he took them out to protect him and to make sure the dodgers won that game I think managers do this I don't. You know I'm not crazy about analytics I don't WanNa take an anti intellectual viewpoint here that I think that certain people it's absurd managers rely too much on numbers and not enough on you but I think the mistake was who he put in not what we took out. One of the guys I was texting with last night we might be said half the front office is in baseball would have done this and it's not just a managers front office last night was bad night for Baseball Tony. You could say baseball's we at five. We know better than somebody even most cases who's twenty five years old. It's a sad night for baseball that a guy pitching a masterpiece. What are you take? You defendant Kevin Casting Colfax or Gibson? That's the kind of performance. This guy was spinning last night and he took them out and it's a sad night. It's a sad night for baseball I don't care how anybody who wants to defend it or painted even Kevin cast I don't care what he has to say.
The Latest: Dodgers win 1st World Series title since 1988

Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series for the first time since 1988, defeat Tampa Bay Rays in six games
"Bunch world Siri's here in this millennium, not being able to cash any tips and win a championship. Get their first title since 1988 and for those of you whose memories aren't as long as mine. That was the famous Kirk Gibson World Series. The Dodgers beat the bash Brothers Conseco and Maguire in Oakland. But it was more about Kirk Gibson hitting that pin. Kid home run off Dennis Eckersley. Early in the Siri's and basically limping around the bases. That's why he wasn't starting. He was hurt, but he was eligible to picket. We didn't need to find out if he could run because the character ball out of Dodger Stadium against recklessly that year who had been one of the most dominant Relief pitchers in the history of the game For that season, he was basically untouchable. He got touched up by Kirk Gibson in the Dodgers went on to win the World Series. I'm sure they thought that night. It's not going to be 32 years before we do that again, but that's exactly the way that it played out. They're interviewing Mookie Betts. I didn't see what the

The Latest: Kershaw, Dodgers take Game 1 over Rays
"Vast fox sports radio networking glad you have chosen to spend A couple minutes with us and there is no debate. There is no debate where we begin this night, a radio the fall classic surfing the Blue Wave Cowabunga Dod's the Fall Classic, starting in a neutral site. Kind of on Tuesday night with Joe Buck every night, you get ajob of game and John Smalls calling the game on Fox. Did you watch? Maybe not will see that I don't imagine the ratings will be very good for this Thegame was lopsided in there's one team that has a fan base and another one that doesn't a national fan base for the Dodgers. Put on a pyrotechnics show. It was like the Fourth of July. Boom Bang Bam! The Dodger offense When Cody Bellenger Mookie Betts hit homeruns Clayton Kershaw mowing down Tampa haters like it was an April started Dodger Stadium on by the time The damage he'd done. Ella ended up spit roasting the raise 8 to 3 and Game one of the 2020 World Series for the Dodgers Get a leg up on the best of seven series now three wings away. From their first championship as a franchise since 1988 When Ronald Reagan was the president, Tommy Lasorda was waddling in the dugout and Kurt Gibson got wanted bat and hit a home run and is at all time legend because of that, as a Dodger, So let us discuss the question. What are your big takeaways? From Game one of the World Series, a domination situation for the Dodgers. So I've got the white whale hand grenades and Smurfs and we will tie all these things together. Now we talk about the World Series. Game one. You start with us. Accounts on Lee is just one game. It doesn't matter that much in the big picture. It's only one game. However. I'm going to disagree with that statement because the feeling that one gets watching Game one of the World Series from the Dodgers side of things. It's like hitting a two team parlay. It doesn't seem like a one win situation. Night, so don't undersell the importance of a game one win for Los Angeles and I'll tell you why. Because the Dodgers winning a Clayton Kershaw playoffs start As easy as a B C. 123. Is not something that happens very often, right. You feel like you dodged a bullet when you win a Kershaw game in the playoffs in a big play off game, Kershaw has been the dog with fleas in the postseason. And while many of my colleagues on television like to downplay Clayton Kershaw's missteps on radio, we don't do that We don't his World Series resume coming in. I would have him in the bread line. If that was his resume. What into an E? R. A of over five he had pitched in 26 2 3rd innings given up 16 earned runs. Over four starts in five games. But on this night, it reminded and voice in my head. It was Dick Stockton, who told me years ago stats tell you what has happened. They don't tell you what's going to happen. And that was a vintage regular season type of Kershaw performance. And you see that in a big play off game as often as you see a white whale swimming around the ocean, right? Clayton Kershaw got 38 swings. 19. Mrs. He had a whiff rate of 50%. Now the stat geeks tell us that that is the highest Of Clayton Kershaw's career, whether it be the postseason or the regular season that half the time it was S O matter, Miss. That is what's known as flexing your muscles, and it wasn't just Kershaw. Cody Bellenger, Mookie Betts. Max Muncy all had big days. The conga line kept moving. You keep pressure on your opponent 10 hits, they got seven walks. The Dodgers drew seven walks and, more importantly than that. They actually hit when they had runners in scoring position. They batted 3 57 on this day with runners in scoring position. They were five out of 14 follow the ways and is a key. You follow the wisdom often, American legend Will Rogers You never get a second chance to make a first impression. The Dodgers they made their first impression. Now you've got to back that up. You have backed that up in Game two in Game three, but you only played one game and the Dodgers the more talented team they didn't play down to their competition. They played like they were the superior opponent in this matchup. We certainly hope that continues were slightly biased on this now. Part B. If you would like to knit pick That's one of these. We get paid to do hear on the radio. Always to pick apart things in micro analyze. Dave Roberts fell back into some old analytical principles. We were hoping that his gut feeling managerial move. The other night would continue. It did not in this game, managing Clayton Kershaw. For Dave Roberts is like juggling hand grenades. One wrong move one wrong move and your head gets blown off. And I understand partially what Roberts is thinking. Because when I'm watching Clayton Kershaw, I'm thinking, OK, Here's where it all falls apart goes to hell right here, right. This is going to be the inning. It all goes to crap. In a playoff situation. But on this night Kershaw he was dealing He'd only thrown 78 pitches. Through six innings. And ah, very effective there. The Rays hitters were completely flummoxed against Kershaw as we gave you some of the numbers there of 50% with weight, and despite the Dodgers having a huge advantage there up eight tow one. They, Roberts Arbitrarily said. That's it. We're going to take you out of the game. I'd rather take you out of half inning. Too early, then a half inning too late. So that brought in Dillon Florio, who wasn't good and then and then Roberts panic because the Rays attempted the pin shit G may enjoy And so Roberts ran out of the dog and I got to make a change. I

"Red Sox in the dodgers sent their rightfielder rightfielder Alexander. Do Go to the Boston Red Sox and then the dodgers got mookie Betts and David Price David price at half price contract and I believe the red sox got some cash in the deal as well. It might fall through now so whenever these trades are made there's a seventy two hour window after their agreed upon on where each team has an opportunity to a medical review and this medical review is led by the doctors of each of the teams the trainers of each of the teams. And basically what what they're insuring is that the asset or the prospect. That they're getting is as healthy as the general manager said or as healthy as they thought they were so where the Snafu appears to be with his trade is with the high flame throwing pitcher gradual who is considered to be a starter order when the red sox acquired him. I've always grads reliever those high velocity guys. I love leaving the bullpen. Because if you start throwing heavy innings it it can be damaging to the shoulder. I want those guys I want my starts with control and I prefer to go deeper innings and with the becoming more of a bullpen game. Amen Relief Pitcher can be a two to three inning guy and can provide real real value for your baseball team so I always saw grabher all in thought that he would be a ballpen guy for the red sox but apparently the red sox saw him as a starter and now after the medical review see him as a reliever which to them. Changes the compensation `compensation for mookie Betts. So we'll see if the deal gets done. The dodgers might just need to send some cash their way or maybe another prospect. Maybe you're low end Guy The twins might get involved. But it's crazy because this trade is affecting to other teams that are not. The dodgers are not the Red Sox Fox. It's affecting the Los Angeles angels because now Jock Peterson's deal has been held up because the dodgers this is rumor but I'm pretty sure the dodgers don't want to let go of power hitting outfielder if they're not going to get mookie betts and then it's affecting the twins because they don't get my eight unless this deal gets done and they've already kind of made plans around having an extra starter so it's a real hold up right now. And we mentioned that this was a Mexican standoff type of trade heading into the trade but now it's a Mexican standoff in the clearing of the trade if I had to guess the deal title is going to get done if that were to be my if I had to guess on this situation in a gun to my head I I'd say yes. This deal is going to get done because because it's already been done you've already went through the PR mess and now if you don't get the deal done especially if you're the Boston Red Sox are the ones holding up the deal. If you're the Boston Red Sox I was just GonNa look rough. You're GONNA look like you don't know what you're doing you're going to look bad it's going to be bad PR. Now I'm sure red SOx knocks fans would be happy bets back but then you ask the question is. Is this the end of mookie Betts being traded right it. Does this open Luke Betts back up to being traded elsewhere to the dodgers have to Redo the deal or is this McKee. Bet Stay a red sock for at least until the trade deadline or around around there so many possibilities now is it possible. I've heard this and this is certainly possible that the red sox are using this medical review as an excuse to get lucky back because they felt the impact from their season ticket holders. They felt the impact from their fan base in the media around Boston after trading. mookie okay bets. You're getting a story out now. The mookie wanted to be a red sox he loved Boston. He loved playing there and he was honestly shocked. Ended up being traded and the snafu there is the red sox offered him a three hundred million dollar deal. mookie Betts wanted Mike Trout money which is around four hundred million dollars. So it's a big discrepancy couple. A couple more years added to it as well. But if you look at wins above replacement in most every other staff McKee bets deserves. Mike trowel money especially from an organization station as wealthy as powerful as influential as the Boston. Red Sox so a lot of details a lot of stuff but the bottom line is the deal should get done and the red sox are maybe using this as an opportunity to get a few more assets and they might get some cash and the medical review is probably a little iffy. I just hope they're not using it as a window to try to escape this trade because you made the deal. I think it looks worse. If you make AK- deal and then back out of it because then it really looks like you don't know what you're doing or you listen to the whims of the fans. And that's not what I expect from an organization. That's that's one four world series in the last fifteen years. It's not what I expected. It's not. It's not rational. I think you stick with the deal you made you know you can make an argument. If you're a real stat nerd that if mookie Betts signed somewhere else than Los Angeles that the Red Sox will for certain win. This trade. In terms of long long-term economic value wins above replacement value with ground-air all and with for Dugo then one year of Mukhi bets. And if you bring McKee back in or are you going to resign them now. Now you traded him. Is mookie. Even GonNa WanNa stay in Boston. I think if you if you scratch this deal. You'll have to put mookie. Betts is back on the market. And now you've announced to the whole world what the price tag is for. mookie Betts and ain't nobody going over with the dodgers and twins were able to execute now. It's a a fairly low price tag but can anybody else match you. Anybody else be willing to match it knowing mookie. Betts won't come back for the season and how about about David Price. Being traded somewhere where I thought he was going to be really successful he was probably excited for the move to Los Angeles and now he my head back to Boston a team. That seemed to be on the outs on him and now he knows that he's already been traded. That's certainly not going to help either on the Boston. Red Sox I get this deal done. Uh No matter what it takes. It's just they got to get the deal done JUST FOR PR sake. Nick and I I liked that they made this move. I said I liked it. They made this move in February. If I were the dodgers out wait till the trade deadline I think you would have. Maybe maybe not even had to give up the cashier or whatever but the dodgers you got the deal done you got a fairly good price for it. And it's a great trade. I just hope the Red Sox ox push through. That's my hope on the issue on the other side of the break. More Red Sox News Rob Radicati new manager of the Boston. Red Sox will discuss the hiring for for the team at Fenway Park. What that means for their future and whether I like the move or not that comes on the other side of the break you're listening to to the G. S. MC golden state media concepts baseball podcast? Hey I'm mandy if you don't know me.

"Get get out from under your luxury tax penalties. Getting David prices salary off the books or at least half of it and then you get monkeys twenty seven million off the books and then you also so get something for mookie because if the Red Sox were trying to negotiate an extension with the player that was hell bent on going to free agency. You have to get something for them and they did you. They don't think I do go. They got who still young. I mean. Unproven he touring extent. I mean he's controllable. Sure but anything about grabher all is well. Wh what's he have jeered nine ten innings in the big leagues under his belt. You know what I mean. And that's what you got for. mookie Betts and David price so so you can't like I'm sorry I'm not a fan but I'm not buying that you're completely content with that. You're not content with that and this is about getting the fan base to bite on a piece of bait that says hey we're okay with it ultimately. This is all we were going to be able to map. This is in my opinion. maxing out on what they were going to get movie rookie bets do they look any better right now than the Orioles did Jerry for not being able to move on to Britain or not being able to move on a Machado kind of wasting their time in essence of not being able to capitalize or secure the bag because they didn't get what they should have got. That's what a lot of people are saying. A lot of people are saying that they were able to split up the pets in price deal and maybe maybe get some guys for beds. Get some tape for price you know. Maybe that was the way to go but again we don't know who's interested right in a price only in in alleviating some of that salary pressure. We don't know that this is just a man two years ago. I was running up and down dodger stadium and Chavez Chavez Ravine with the Barstool flag you shedding tears because the red sox were on top of the world and here we are saying goodbye to Mookie Bets David Price The man you love so much jared for blowing that basketball directly by one Manny Machado Chato. Right Chris Sale was what you're sorry it was it was Christine. Who David Price Punch out in price went eight eight innings or no? It was a plus I think plus seven plus at one run in the clinching game. Yes so that's where we're at today is saying goodbye to those those guys who who what who just didn't meet not those guys mean a lot. They mentally so level with me here. I'm with you on the return like when you're talking about trading mookie Betts second best player in baseball. You'd expect to get a hall for Mookie Betts. But you're not still gladder ladder all from yeah when you're when you're looking at what do you get four trading. mookie Betts and David Price. It's it's not just about the players players that you're getting back. So this is a tweet from Ken. Rosenthal to AOL execs. Tell me. Criticism of Red Sox is misplaced. The Red Sox get to talented youngsters. There's with greater value than draft. Pick if bets had left as a free agent they also get the ability to get under the threshold and reset the penalty to a minimum. They also get forty. Forty forty to fifty million in payroll flexibility in coming seasons. So that's what you like more than just the players that are coming back the the luxury tax penalties. He's that resets and you'll still get some money to play with. I mean I. They're punting on twenty twenty. There's no doubt about them. Punting on twenty twenty but the this idea idea that trading mookie Betts David price is sort of the closing of a window where they they won the championship in twenty eighteen. And now you gotta do a full rebuild. That's not true. I mean the team. That's they're still pretty damn good. Are they championship caliber. No but the red sox have put themselves in a position to go out and spend a ton of money in the future in some of that money by the way. Here's these happy bent on. MOOKIE BETTS LOW. mookie betts coming back now. We'll get into that but after the twenty twenty season shapes up to what it could be. which probably isn't looking solid Gina's has the opportunity to go? You know what we're all good here. And if there has actor is there to Dallas well if Eddie Martinez op so after twenty twenty. The National League gets the D. H.. In twenty twenty one. Now he has more suitors. Well and not only that jared is. This is where mookie and jd would be able to be a part of getting the band back together if you will. Let's bring mookie back. We know know what we can do together in the same lineup. By that time maybe the red SOx would have made some moves maybe they would have spent some of that extra cash that they've been able to secure in this move here and maybe they would have shown the ability or showed the interest of getting better. Okay because then with the ability ability to resign a monkey in the offseason. Wh what can happen is there can be some of these guys during the twenty twenty season. That are locked up. I hate to say it but maybe a sale maybe an e evolves. Maybe maybe one of those guys because the red sox will probably not going to be contending. Maybe one of those guys doesn't finish September ember wearing a red sox uniform maybe even more cash is loosened up so those are all things that are viable options for the red sox. Move or something I wanted to get into journ I wanted to. I don't know if you remember this. This reminds me it kind of Kinda reminds me of the nineteen offseason the Nineteen nineteen off season. That is your you know what happened in Nineteen nineteen. Yeah Babe Ruth socks I I babe. Ruth wasn't even close to the player that mookie Betts was when he got traded. Babe Ruth Babe Ruth Babe. Ruth did not become Babe Ruth until until he got traded. Mookie Betts already hall of fame player. No you're right. I just wanted to give you something to chew on here because he is reportedly seeking twelve years. That's right that's kind of what's been thrown out there. Twelve years four. Twenty eight mad at him for trying to light up the salary Babe Ruth. After the next twelve years jared alcee did was logged five hundred. Forty six home runs an of eleven hundred sixty seven an copious plus of two hundred three journey over sixteen hundred. RBI is for George. Herman Ruth you know what he did. He played against fucking mechanics. And and and blacksmiths. Did all do. The next was not almost four runs jumps on her. Red Sox combined just aghast no Jerry. You're missing the point my friend. It's it's not about a comparison. Listen it's about giving you insight to what the future holds for Marcus. Lynn Bets and knowing that the red sox very well may not be a part of any of that. I mean they will be but they'll probably be on the receiving end a couple times and I don't mean you know gratuitously they will be getting it pushed in by Marcus. Linda's that's just what the next twelve years looked like for Babe Ruth after he left Boston. So I'm just saying you know what there's some guys is that have had success after leaving. I mean it's just we're offseason. Nineteen off season. It's just let me say a couple of things first. The Rosenthal tweet. That may be true. I can think of no people more motivated to side with what the Red Sox are doing than to other. AL executives who we're probably going to try and slash payroll and get under the tax in very much the same way. Secondly this entire conversation needs to be done with the with the opening. Caveat ought that any attempts by the Red Sox to get under the luxury tax or when we talk about what they must do. It's not a rule. It's not a requirement that they they could have paid. They could have offered. And by the way this idea like whatever I'm in the fucking Yankees. They own Liverpool. Like I can't fucking pay no bitch you can. If you put four hundred twenty million dollars on the table mybookie bats would have signed like I think four hundred and fifty lake whatever they could pay. mookie Betts now you can argue whether that's the smart baseball move to do or whatever and we have done a little bit of that but it all needs to come with the understanding that they could do anything anything they wanted to. They have infinite amount of money. And there's more there's more to the penalties than just spending money like it would cost them so say they say say the red sox payroll is two hundred and twenty million dollars. They're still going to get taxed between ninety one hundred million dollars so called three twenty and then you lose international signing money and your draft picks get get dropped so there's more to it than just like all right well give me four twenty the payroll bumps luxury competently initially over the tax for multiple years in a row. If they wish they argue at that point you resign. mookie Betts there whatever we can we. The point is is that they are financially. They have the financial wherewithal to pay. mookie Betts any amount of money that they want and they are choosing not to do that. Well that's a smart business move move or not is a separate question. But they're choosing to return on the franchise in the last twenty five years and this is where this is where fans whether you like it or not have to come to terms with your favorite. Sports player is just a pawn ultimately is just employee number. Okay for a business and in a business model and we're talking about a business being able to just sort of burn hundred dollar bills right. Burn a hundred million dollars just because they they have players in her paying them. More than the League. Allotment allows without wearing a penalty. That's that's just what we're hoping for. That's what we want to see done the billionaires as much as you might not side with the billionaires because they're billionaires and they've got it to quote unquote spin. They've got it to burn. Well well you know what maybe they don't based on business models based on keeping generational wealth intact. You have to do things a certain way. This is as a business after all and so that side of it comes into play fans this where I think bands are coming from. is they loved them some. mookie Betts they love what mookie. Betts has done while playing for their team. They know how much their team is work. And how much they can afford to spend. They just WANNA see their team team. Spend money on a really good player who they think can play a major role in their team being really good for the future. This is a generational talent and and they're looking around going. Why the fuck would we not sign up for one of the two three? Maybe four generational type talent players in the game right now. Why would we not sign up for that guy and figure out how to be flexible and not wear these incurring luxury tax penalties back to tobacco back? What are we figure out how to do that? Elsewhere all an EEO baldy all. Maybe as much as you hate to say it zander towards the whatever it is. We've got to figure out the different way to do it because who'd he wants. Your you want Zander for the next six you want Mukhi for the next twelve. Yes so let me ask you Jay Because I think we're kind of arguing two different. Thanks like what I in a perfect world. What I'd pay? mookie foreign twenty million dollars awesome absolutely. Would you pay mookie Betts. Thirty five million dollars a year in his age. Thirty eight and thirty nine seasons did you care about the back end of the deal if what you're getting if the risk is paying this guy thirty five million dollars as for age thirty and thirty nine seasons is it worth it to have his entire prime. I think it is. I think it is for for that player in that market. At this time I do and I know again. We're arguing different stuff. But in a vacuum this is one of the greatest players of his generation. He has one big with this franchise. He's the the best player on this franchise he is. Obviously you can speak to this better. He is generally loved by the fans..

"Price signing and I mean the the moves that Dave Dombrowski made that threat sex decided that they probably don't WanNa make anymore those moves were really go for it when now type trades that the dodgers have sort of have held off from until now for the most part. But that's because no one was pushing the dodgers the way that the red sox the division rivals were pushing them. And that's just the the fact of the matter. The dodgers without making that he would splash have won the division for for several years in a row. And you know except for what one time didn't really come close to not doing that so it's just a different reality there that they haven't really had the same competitive pressure right. Yeah well we've covered it a sorry. Sorry we've neglected the twins angle and the angel go here you know. Sheriff twins I guess you know that's that's that's fine It's a it's a win win now. Kind of move from the twin. So I guess you know when you're assessing the wind now adminis- of traded too bad. That's not satisfying 'cause one that's not trying to win. Israeli woman us out but Yeah like Now that that rotation is fortified somewhat And we'll get reinforcements later on in the season when Panetta comes back from his suspension and on rituals fully back from his elbow surgery. And so that's good but now the rotation there will be Ascent Torrisi and my Ada and Bailey the and probably Randy's neck I guess So that that's nice good to have you know good to have in there and good the job to all the dodgers prospects just continue to live in Los Angeles. Yeah shocking truly that you're all still there and Yeah you know. mookie would look good padres uniform to I think the thing about it is that movie just has good. He just has a good baseball player way about him so he's GonNa look compelling in baseball uniforms. 'cause he's fun to watch. Yeah look dodger. Blue though mass beginning of lineups that are pretty good top to bottom the angels lineup. His It's a pretty good unit. Let me just the I don't know if this is Exactly how the batting order will be but on the fan graphs rest resource I depth chart. It Goes Jack Petersen Mike Trout Anthony Ren Don Shohei ohtani Justin Upton Albert Potholes Thomas Stella Andrew Simmons Jayson Castro. That's That's pretty good. It's not bad at all and I think there is Something of a logjam in the angels outfield potentially eventually at some point this season. But I don't think that this move like blocks. Joe Adele nel serious way because adults knocking on the door. But he's it's not knocking loudly like is twenty years old and he just got AAA towards the end of last season and didn't hit. Well they're in in and played in the fall league and did okay but it's not like he is demanding to be on this roster on opening day Doc Petersen's a good player in this gives them the opportunity not to rush Adele and you know updates coming off a a down year to and Peterson's just there for one year so I oh I think he he fits in fine. It's just that the pitching that rotations still headlined by Julio Teheran so that's not ideal I I still. It's headlined by Otani but tiny may not people to pitch many innings. So they'll have to be with him. Yeah I I like that move for Out For the other L. A. for Anaheim. They get mad about that. 'cause yeah it doesn't you know Peterson will be a free agent after the end of the season and so you're right. He doesn't Hasim Flock Adele. He doesn't get in the way of Brandon Marsh whenever marshes ready. He's his timeline. Is presumably a little bit longer. But he's looked really good so Yeah I think that's a that's a good move one. When I heard that when we heard that it might be a four team trade and that Los Angeles might be involved psycho maybe the LA will the other La will get David price somehow and that'd be so nifty and I didn't know what happened Ray? At first I the stripling part of the trade was not reported. It just seemed to be Peterson for Renzo and it was like well. You'd think right in deal. Where pitching his changing teams orange? Observe sort of involved. Hope that they may be what offended eight to get one of those features but they did get wrestling. Who's pretty good pitcher in fact I said that the bills rotation was headlined by Julio Teheran to think stripling his probably better than tyrod so I don't know Ross stripling angels ace. Funny he was sort of swing man with the dodgers could always keep rotation spot with the angels. I think that will be considerably easier. Is that's what he wants to do. So they can better runs it runs. I can try to score more runs than the other team. Even if they're giving up a lot of runsen yet when he was A young utility type player and yeah I don't know where he fits with the dodgers because they have a million guys but he didn't fit that well with the angels after the Renton signing either. Because they've got run. Don't they've gutless Stella. And they've got Fletcher and I. He Simmons obviously so. That's a pretty crowded field too so he he had a A hand or wrist injury think last year that was not unserious. I think he did time on the sixty day injured list. I say all this because awesome. He has the the great honor of having once been a mariners prospect and also a very late similarly draft guideline in the one thing that I am on Simile Gum. I'm doing I want to talk about it ever again because no one cares But I I don't think they'll figure it out because he might just need more time to be fully healthy anyhow. Take all right. Well I guess we've covered it. We could keep talking but people are probably hungry to get this in their ears in curious about about mookie Betts so we will not delay longer than we have to just Scanning to see if there's any new news since we started talking Pete Rose rose asks. MLB for reinstatement gravy. No we're GONNA pass our way through that one. I I have one final thing in would would it have made any difference in terms of the PR response to this. And I think my answer is no but I'm curious frears. Would it have made any difference if they had just dropped this in the middle of the Super Bowl. Would they all got some cover for a day or two Boston Austin. It would not have made a difference for us but I mean I would have very annoyed. Yes that was a nightmare scenario that was discussed internally at the ringer but the they spared us that at least yeah I I mean I hit I guess so I guess the fact that that is typically the biggest sports story of the year and the game had a big ending come from behind and all that that they could only crowd out any other sports related news. But it's not like Boston. Fans would've felt any differently or complained in less so off. I think it's good. I think it's good that you just have to. You just have to endure being you know pilloried by baseball types regardless when new trade a recent MVP except for those two executives in the American league who are for flexibility. If they're red sox success I assume Kenwood not quote. Red sox executive levels Lena okay. He clarified in subsequent subsequent to that it's rival executives. Not Red SOX executive. Let me ask you another question about the the PR perception. What if this had just happened without the months of buildup without them kind of trying to condition us to expect us? What if we had woken up to news that a rookie bets traded to the dodgers? Now what would that have been the reaction. I don't think that it would have changed things all that much because I think it's just too obvious. The motivations is our two transparent and I think those motivations rightly bother us and so I think that it's it's just one of those trades that it's pretty hard to pr your way out of and I think that's probably a good thing 'cause they would be concerning turning if if you could I guess but no. I don't think building up to it. I don't think building up to it. Changes it dramatically because the the motivation to get below the competitive balance tax was an obvious one. I mean like their choice of general manager. Whatever booms Stylus? It's not that it's a it's an IRO. It's title inflation officer. Yeah Yeah Baseball's very funny. I'm not making fun of him. I making tidal title inflation. To be clear he didn't pick that I would imagine I think that when that's your choice your path through the winter is those sort of general contours of. It are pretty obvious so no. I don't think that would have changed things to dramatically. Yeah it's someone asked you in your chat yesterday about like at this point was that situation unsalvageable anyway. After months and months of rumors and the red SOx making it clear that pets was on the block could they even have kept him at that point or would the feelings be so afraid that it it just wouldn't work and I think you rightly responded that no could keep you can just always keep McKee back once you have a mookie. Betts you can just always hold Hold onto him and again tight. You know as long as he's a hugging person. I don't like You can always do that and it will always be okay. Let's to say the right offer was there because he is the second best player baseball essentially a I think everyone would have accepted that. I mean he might still have feelings hurt by the exact rack but I I think it would have been okay. So yeah I if this had broken out of nowhere with no warning it would have been more more shocking in a concentrated. It's entreated way like our our shock with sort of distributed over a longer time period but if this was one of those situations where you make something public. I don't know if they made their feeling so public I think they probably regretted John Henry saying that he just wanted to save money because he he later tried to walk that back but he had already said it. So Oh man yeah so that was not the best messaging but if this was one of those cases where it's like well we'll will float this publicly to see what the reaction is. The reaction was pretty negative so they they knew what what they were going to get when they made the steel and they still made it so yep they knew they knew and if they didn't then that's that's pretty goofy but I think they knew and then And then they went and did it anyway and so for the first time in a long time I feel genuine sympathy for Red Sox fans who've just had it real good and now have it worse in a way that was preventable. And that's a bummer. Yeah Yeah but again. We're happy for Kenta. Yes sure theft and yet for bloom like I assume he knew that at this would be one of his duties when he took off..

"Try to build around him especially if you are a team that can afford to pivot around him from all appearances and yet the Red Sox I think they already had the second highest average ticket price and they are planning to hike that it by what I think comes out to about two percent on average across the board which I guess is just keeping pace with inflation? You could say they are also suddenly becoming a less compelling product and less entertaining team. So there's that too and you know I guess it's a small Park Park and they probably have to have prices higher to compensate for that or something but anyway just from a messaging perspective we're raising prices prices and we're trading our best player. It's not the best combination. Yeah when I was a I know that the background machinations of how we cover trade trade like this are are not necessarily interesting people but you know like we knew that this was coming in some form. We didn't quite know when and there were two possibilities presented good for this trade. There was this package or one that looked a lot like this for the dodgers and then the other was something involving the padres. And so you know Jay a is. You're gonNA write the full breakdown crate and Dan. Skinner instagram's it. So people have a place to talk in the comments while they're waiting for the full thing and I was like Erik if you're gonNA cover the prospects here and then the the deal started to take shape and we started Piecing together the pieces to try to you. Know get get a sense of what we were GONNA be talking about or you can just send Dan some notes on the prospect in this in his jock. Petersen Persson deal you can go finish the orioles. Let's didn't need it. Yeah at by the way while we are sort of scratching our heads at the Red Sox we should say hey dodgers all my gosh could deal for. UK's you gotTa player who you've just should not have been felt based on all of baseball history so the dodgers during Inter Friedman's tenure. They've made some major improves. But for the most part they've kind of kept their powder dry they've hung onto their prospects. They have avoided many of the big splashy signings and trades that the people wanted them to make and the most part other than not winning world series. That has worked out okay but this time boy they got about the best player player in baseball. You could get and also they didn't really give up a lot. They also they also got David Price. Who even though he he is? somewhat diminished and. There's injury risk and all that like. He's no slouch he's not. It's sort of a salary dump that the red SOx wanted to package Tim with mookie. But that's not to say that price has no value. He pizzas so I guess he sort of replaces Mida to some extent rent. But there's still something to be said for David Price to two thousand eighteen world series. MVP perhaps not quite the pitcher he was then but still still an appealing player. But yes to get Mukhi and add mookie to the incredible roster they already had A. You can't just add sukey is projected four total to the win. Total that you would have expected for the dodgers because of course they did give up for to go and Peterson Persson. Those guys would have been average to above average outfielders too. So it's not like McKee is replacing a literal replacement player but still. It's a significant several win upgrade to the team that was already for the best in the League. Yeah Dan Ran. Twenty twenty zips for mookie assuming zooming dodger stadium is home park. He is projected for six point. Seven war yeah. Looking like that zips that come out with that. Number is exactly that would be his worst. Were total a few years improperly gravy. Yeah I I will say we can. There's some people we can be happy for. Isn't that Nice. We can be happy for the dodgers you know movies GonNa look. Oh great in dodger. Blue like go look great. That team is going to that lineup. Here here's this might you know. They'll they'll don't move stuff around and whatnot but the dodgers lineup. post-trade can now consist of mookie Betts. Mac Muncie Justin. Turner Cody bellinger. Aj Aj pollock cory. Seager will Smith Gavin locks. It can include Gavin locks because they didn't have to give up Gavin To get Mukhi bets or dust may or the various other players who could have been like so so we can be happy for them. We can be happy for David price because it seems like the the situation in Boston was just getting increasingly toxic for him. It's a rough place to have the sort of injuries that he's had on a deal like that. So good good for David Price. We can be happy for dodger. Fans 'cause You know they spend it off season being mad at the red sox and the Astros and now they just get to be happy about this we can be happy for Kenton Majeida whose skin I get to start a bunch. I guess so. I believe he also had a million dollar kicker in his contract in the event that he got traded. So that's nice perk. I don't know how he feels about. Not Pitching on the west coast but that part is less good but you know he had that screwy contract that had all these incentives to be used in relief and the twins need starting pitching and so he will get to any gets to go to a contender. So so that's pretty. That's pretty nifty. He's gotta be psyched about that. And the only people who feel bad for Red Sox fans because because they didn't do any of this on the red sox organization made active choices so they get delivered those now. So let's talk about those choices and why they made him so this is Almost a raise style trade that was completed by new president of baseball OPS or whatever. His title is a high plume. But I don't think we can say that. The genesis of this move was with bloom because the rumors began before blum was hired. And and clearly the impetus was not bloom coming in on his first day. In saying you know it is my number one priority assets character dare. I don't know about him out of here at the same time. This is sort of a race style. Move because it's kind of like add up the warriors there's calculate the dollars per war type of move so essentially. MOOKIE is one year way for free agency he just got got a record deal for a player in his final year of eligibility. So he's making twenty seven million dollars in twenty twenty and that will increase next year and the Red Sox had had some extension talks with him. From what has been reported the offers they made him were quite modest and and he was quite reasonable in rejecting them he has been somewhat open about being willing to test the market. And so it's clear that there's a good chance that he will become a free agent next year and so for the Red Sox. There was some possibility that if he went elsewhere aware next winter all they would have to show for. mookie pence's departure is a draft pick. Then there's the money that they're saving this year. which and in future years because of price potentially depending on how much money is being sent to La and that part of it is just not something that fans really have incentive to care about that? And I was just looking at a Ken Rosenthal tweet which I will read right here and he says to. Al L. exacts tell me criticism of Red Sox is misplaced sox get bullet point two talented youngsters with greater value than draft pick if bets had left as free agent bullet point ability to get under competitive balance tax threshold and reset penalty rate to minimum and final bullet. Point forty to fifty million dollars in payroll flexibility in coming seasons. So Hey stop. Criticizing the Red Sox. They just got four forty to fifty million dollars in payroll flexibility in coming having seasons catch. Catch the fever pitch for fifty million dollars in payroll flexibility. What could be more exciting than that so on a Jersey no yeah very small with your typeface would undermine the joke? It's all those things it said. Yes the Red Sox have run high payrolls they had highest payroll in baseball when they won the world series they have triggered the most severe penalties in the CPA A for spending so overage taxes on the amounts over certain thresholds and draft picks. Moving back and this cassettes their tax as we've seen some other teams do and so in theory. At least they could intending to spend in future seasons more because they are resetting the competitive balance tax social now and they're getting two good young players so if you add up the war that the dodgers are protected. Did they get from bets while he is under team control. And you compare that to the war that the red sox are now projected to get from gradual and for do goat while they are under thirteen control. Then things look like they favor the red sox because if you look at dense aforementioned posted fan crafts. He has the five year projections for. Do Go and grab and both of those guys. It doesn't forecast stardom for either of them. It sort of seize the conservatively as fairly average Jewish players. But even so if you add up you know ten years of average players compared to one year for one of the best players in baseball in terms of war. It's still swing toward the team. That's getting the young guys who are under team control for several seasons apiece. So that's that's the way that theoretically it could work out or you could justify it you could say well. This is one year of bets. Maybe the Red Sox knew or thought that he was going to leave that they weren't going to have much to show for it and as it is they got to pretty good young players who could be around a long long time and I guess you could add that. It's tough division and the Red Sox with MUCCI did not make the playoffs last year. The Yankees probably got better this off season. The rays are still really good so even if they had kept Buki there is some chance that they would not have made the playoffs with him and so so they figure. Well why fight for a wild card. I guess if we're going to not make it or potentially lose in one playoff game and then Luke Williamson than we have addressed picked to show for it so that's trying to present the red sox rationale here share and I I am not indifferent different to that rationale. But I don't find it compelling. I should say more than that. The what we're here to do. I don't find it especially compelling because when you look at this organization the financial resources back at are just such that of all the teams in baseball. They should be on that list. That doesn't have to make a move. Like this. And Bets has agency in his free agency rate and so there isn't a guarantee that he was gonNA come back to the red sox but a competitive deal to him. improbably secures that and I find it very strange that these you know especially if they are continuing to pay part of prices salary granted. We don't know the exact composition of that portion of the deal yet. But I if there was a a mandate to spend less money if there was a mandate to shed salary which presumably there was when bloom came in and part of why you hire a guy like I'm bloom is because he has shown an acumen for this kind of this form of roster sure management in the past right. He was good at this in Tampa. But if you're willing to eat part of prices salary isn't there another way that that you can offload him right if you're willing to retain some of that money. Isn't there a way that you can just say you know for a Mookie Betts. Let's we're GONNA blow through the competitive balance tax threshold because even at the higher threshold you're buying like a relievers worth of relief so when you put it in those terms when we think about this in terms of the players and not the dollars if feels pretty silly to to let go of you know a pitcher who was expensive and was injury prone but was still productive of franchise player altogether some relievers worth of salary relief from the competitive bounced checks. And I know that it's not my money but it also isn't the fans so we can just spend it because by why not and so I appreciate how within the architecture of trade like this. This is a return that is understandable rate. Some of the things that they're getting are useful. Some of the pieces that they are getting are useful but when you talk about it in terms of the players who are involved what what they have. Essentially essentially done is trade a franchise player away for a guy who is likely to end up in relief albeit as a very talented reliever an outfielder who is very good. But who has some some not small makeup concerns associated with him to the point that other teams looking at dodgers prospects in trade perferred other prospects in the past to Virgo. Because they didn't want to deal with the makeup stuff all to get a couple relievers worth of salary relief from the competitive balance tax penalties. And when you put it like that fills out very good. His although again CANTU my ada he gets to start. So that's nice right..

"Our patriotic supporters of the ringer. Also apparently spotify. Lot of five. It's been an interesting last twenty four hours and I am joined by make rallying fen graphs midweek mic. Maybe we just press okay so we are here to talk about a move that we have. I've been wondering about an anticipating for months now. mookie Betts was actually tried it. It finally happened. Yeah and and even though we have had months to get used to the idea I never really did and right up until this week when the rumor seemed to solidify Fi. I hadn't completely believed that it was going to happen. I thought the odds were probably still against it because of the caliber of player. That McKee is but let's sleigh out the terms not that any if you have not heard this by this point but mookie betts is going from the Red Sox to dodgers along with David Price Ace and significant cash considerations as we record do not know how significant for Alex for the young dodger's outfielder and also also the even younger right handed twins pitcher Bruce Star growth. This is a three team trade. And can't Ada went from the dodgers to the twins to complete complete this trade. There was also a parallel move. Where the dodgers traded Jack Petersen with former effectively wild guests Ross stripling to the angels else with a prospect and dodgers got back Louis Ren Heathrow and possibly in other prospect or prospects policies to Jack Petersen but we will probably not be talking as much about him today? Bigger news rookie bed. Certes Stole Your Thunder Jack Petersen so I don't think we need to debate whether yeah. This is a blockbuster qualifies. Yep We got. We moved bets. Yup So we have we. Have we have David Price. Yes we have three teams involved just so yeah blockbuster feel very comfortable all the blockbuster box office blockbuster vices we got former award winner as we get teams. We have money for reasons. Yeah so there's a lot to discuss here. What this means for these teams competitively? What for them financially and also for the sport has a whole financially? Why the red SOx would make this trade which really is unprecedented? And and that was the gist of what I wrote about. Mookie we had dowman on the Red Sox and cram on the dodgers and so I sort of focused on just the sheer improbability of the player. Like mookie Betts getting traded and essentially no player with the combination of use and performance. That mookie betts has has has ever been traded in history baseball and yes. Some of you are thinking Babe Ruth and many Red Sox fans are probably thinking Babe Ruth Yes of course he was technically sold sold or purchased. That was just a straight cash deal so this is better than that fit their couple. Other purchases like that like Eddie Collins after through the nineteen fourteen athletics fire sale but in terms of trades. They're just has never been a player. Who Amassed as much war in the two full seasons preceding preceding the trade and was as young as at the time of the trade? That's just never happened and there are some guys who are closed. If you WANNA look at my article goal I will link to it on the show page and I have top twenty's for under twenty eight players and also all players no age restrictions. But really there's no no one who fits the precise description of mookie betts who a team has ever traded. And there's almost no one when you remove the age restriction it's like Roger. Clemens is the only player who's been traded fitting that description in the past eight years or so when he was coming off back to back cy young years and the Blue Jays traded him to the Yankees but that was a thirty six year. Old Rapper comments and that was PUCCI team that was not going to make the playoffs for another seventeen eighteen years. So there are other factors here that make this even more improbable because not only is Mukhi great. I mean the second best player in baseball all I would say and also right in the prime of his career but everything else in this specific case which leads you to believe that. mookie betts this would be completely off limits right. A He's mookie. He's a model citizen as far as we know he is a fan favourite. He was drafted developed helped by the Red Sox. The Red Sox are the third most valuable. mopey Franchise Fenway Sports Group. Which owns the red? SOx Is the world's Third Most Valuable Label sports conglomerate. This is not the team that you would think would be trading a great especially because red SOx have a competitive roster other than mookie and could have contended and then there's also the fact that he recently won the world series at busted Magid. We're what fifteen months removed removed from the red sox capping one of the most successful seasons ever with a world series title and in those fifteen months. They have moved on from Dave depressed. They approved done from Alex Cora they have moved on from playoff hero David price and they have moved on from two thousand eighteen and tale. MVP winner Mookie. Betts that is just almost inconceivable. It's just been a really wild twenty four I. I am not in the habit of Minnesota thing and it's GonNa feel it's not gonNa feel fine and then I'm going to try to undo my lack of crying tennis and we'll see how successful am am. I tend to not be in the habit of feeling bad for for Red Sox fans 'cause like they've had a pretty good and you can always feel so many feelings so I choose to spend my hi my sympathy on folks in greater need. Put it that way. Something I dislike them. It's just that they're you know like the mariners exists so for it but this is a really rough. This is a really rough one to describe. This is the kind of trade that when you talk about it to a non on baseball fan person they know the names right. It's that level of recognition and that's unusual for baseball player full stop but To be traded to trade a recent. Mvp a delightful hero a great personality analogy. You're not even offload all of David prices contract. Yes so murky not is at least by baseball reference where it which is what I was using for my article because Dan Hirsch helped me out with the stats is the best. Non Trout player asphalt over the past two seasons the past three seasons the past four seasons the past five seasons in the past six seasons and six seasons ago that was his rookie year when he came came up in late June. So he's just been the best aunties young and everyone loves him and it's got to be tough for a red SOx expense to stomach that news. Whenever a team trades a homegrown franchise player who is really great and almost no one? Is this this greatest rookie. That's tough to stomach because mookie was already a top ten position player. In Red Sox franchise history and he was climbing that list quickly. I mean he's just getting started. Its rate six seasons not even six full seasons so he was very much on track to be one of the absolute best players in franchise history. He's almost certainly a future hall of famer barring some kind of catastrophic injury and to lose that guy when you are A big market deep-pocketed high payroll team traditionally. This is the kind of move that if it's made it all would typically be made lead by maybe a small market team that can't afford to keep the player or or says it can afford to keep the player which I guess is essentially what the Red Sox are sort of saying here but we can talk about that or it would be maybe a bad team. That knows absolutely can't win with this player in the near future and figures. Well we'll okay. What we can and this is just not that so I think there are justifications for this move and we'll go through them and try to explain leaned what the Red Sox were thinking here but I think it's just an extremely tough sell to your fan base because your fan base doesn't really know Alex and restart gradual for the most part and those are good players and former highly touted prospects and promising guys and you should should know them in? We'll know them and they should be good. But when you're trading mookie betts for really anyone. It's just a very tough tough thing to tell your fence. Yeah I think anytime you have to stitch together. There's there's sort of the baseball reality of it. which is that you're right? You goes good player. We'll get into some of the complications there. I imagine a moment is a very promising pitcher probably bound for a relief role eventually Lee but quite good but one. You are having to stitch together that quality to to reach an equivalence. I think it's just automatically hard celtic fan base crud. Words and Ben Clemens both took turns writing about how difficult it really is to sufficiently accumulate value to justify a move like I because Mucci is just so special player and you know our war agrees with bereft swore like he is second only to trout in terms of his production since he entered the major. So I think it's very difficult to say to a fan base. The thing that is holding us back from you know retaining this franchise icon and making him. A lifelong member of this organization is money and that is a reality. That baseball teams grapple with. And we can you know we can debate and we probably will how much they should care about that particularly given the resources at the red sox disposal but when all it is as money money and then you raise ticket prices. That's a hard sell to your fan base. This is an organization that every organization in baseball wants to to develop a mookie betts every single one. That's the goal entire goal of having prospects farm system and player development. That's what you're you're trying to do is to develop mookie betts and it's so hard to do that and it so rare that an organization achieve it and then to trade that player away and have not small part of the motivation for the trade to be salary relief in the immediate term and just a an unwillingness us to consider that you might be able to compete for his services in free agency. That's really rough. It's just hard for fan base and they don't you know Red Sox fans I don't have to feel good about that like we'll talk about the players who they got and the promise that they bring in some of the stuff that they can be excited about. But like like this is just GonNa be one of those trades where they're never gonNA feel good about it probably right will when you trade a player like mookie. You're almost certainly not going to get a player like McKee back in. That's just inevitable. Almost because there are almost no players like Mukhi doesn't that should that come up the trade calculus shouldn't that be sitting. You're sitting around in fenway. I don't I don't know if the red sox office offices are so if we were sitting around and fenway and you're like what are we want back for mookie Betts and the list isn't sufficiently long to pull the trigger on that you know. Yeah Yeah I'm not saying you need to get a perfect mookie equivalent back in order to do the deal because you could get two players who was really good you know there are ways it could work out and there was even the this could work out you know. They traded one year of monkey not McKee in perpetuity. But it definitely does give you pause. Because when you trade a franchise player in many cases. You'RE NOT GONNA get a franchise player back and I'm SORTA surprised that we didn't have to pretend pretend to be prospect people in prospect experts for this trade in that sense it sort of neat and clean and easy to analyze. Because these are all major leaguers and players years that we've seen play and and Kinda what they are even though for do go and grow or still in their early twenty s and still fairly early in their major league careers but yeah. Yeah I mean betsy is obviously the type of player..

"Final segment of the show GS MCC baseball podcast. You know I've been warned by many individuals about the snow. That was making its way into the Chicago area. Listen I've started to come. I stopped driving when I moved appear to Chicago because public transit. I live in the city. close to Wrigley Field. So it's really easy for me to get around everywhere. I need to get without actually having to be in a vehicle so I haven't really worried about the weather whatsoever i. It's not a thing that I've been thinking about. It's on the thing that I've been worrying about so I don't really look at the weather report I I don't watch the weather channel. It's not part of my daily consumption of media so much other stuff to watch major league. Baseball highlights reading articles about baseball football soccer games. Football Games The works movies checked out the greatest showman last night. I didn't know the snow was coming. But it's really hard to come down and I'm excited to talk about baseball. That's brilliant combination brilliant combination and. That's what trades like this. Do Bring Excitement bring fun. One energy wonder conversation. The things that drive sports when the sports not being played and conversation conversation writing storylines is what makes sports sedan popular in the first place. I think it's the actions on the fueled. No no no no. It's the stories stories. Make sports it's why Greenland Rice in my opinion is the most influential figure here in sports history for those. You don't know grantland rice very famous. Sports Reiner in the early twentieth century. He exaggerated a lot of things right. He called the four Notre Dame running backs the four horsemen of the apocalypse and not a single one of them was over one hundred seventy pounds wearing exactly intimidating but the little bit of flare a little bit of exaggeration the storyline right made it more exciting made it more interesting fed into a story and we talk about journalism and honesty and and all those things are important but those things don't matter in sports this is entertainment. This is fun we want to have conversations. We want to discuss stories. We WanNA talk about championships in rivals and moments you know. I flashed back. I I look through every single super bowl. The the day just to see which team was the favourite what was the storyline coming into the nineteen eighty-nine Super Bowl. There are some stories there you want to craft a story and you can take a moment in a game and if you tell the story right as a broadcaster as a writer you can turn that into something so much more. Let's use the nine thousand nine hundred nine Super Bowl. For example Joe. Montana drives down the field with three minutes and ten seconds left down sixteen thirteen defeats Cincinnati. Bengals twenty two sixteen after scoring game winning touchdown right okay. If that's all you say cool what makes it that moment. That special moment and it's the story of it's the fact that Joe Montana walks down to the huddle looks at guys who are nervous US looking around. They don't know what's going on and says hey is is that John Candy over there Joe. Cool born marches down the field and beat the Cincinnati bengals. And what makes the story even more fascinating it. What makes sports even more fascinating faceting? What makes sports? The most popular stories ever told is the fact that joke. Cool Joe Montana. The niners are the hero in most people's stories but there's entire region of the country which I happen to grow up in. We're Joe. Montana is not the hero of the story he's the villain he's the enemy and that's Cincinnati and we see this time and time again. It's the only only story in the world because you watch television show. There's a good character. There's a bad character you know it. It's pretty defined. There's somebody to root for and it's about who everybody is rooting for. We're in every single movie and you might get some variation where people root for the bad guy. I understand that but it's designed for you to root for the hero and those are massively Lee popular film massively popular but sports is so unique because if you tell the story correctly if the broadcasters and writers shape what is talked about correctly there are numerous heroes in numerous villains and numerous back stories in storylines inside side characters in twists and turns ups and downs in the craziest thing about it. All is when you watch a movie when you watch the avengers. Although the ending may surprise you Tony Stark spoiler warning recipes. Even though that may surprise you you know that it was predetermined. You know that it was written you you know that it was acted you know acted time and time again. You know went through an editing process. You know it was placed in a pristine little package instead in front of the brilliant thing about sports is you can create the same level of characters the same level of hero villain conflict overcoming odds odds all the things that make films so popular and you add in the aspect that not you or me or the people on the field. Know what's going to happen. And that's what makes sports the most consumable and most popular product in terms of live event or storytelling. The world has ever seen in stories. Stories are what make sports unbelievably special and what I hope happens in baseball. which probably won't when you look through the analytics and I understand understand that but what I hope happens in? Baseball is the story of MOOKIE. Betts in the story of my trout and it has been set up even more by Mookie. Betts making the trek to Los Angeles because now he joins his contemporary the only one that can rival. Mookie Betts in terms of production and speed dinners lettuce system in fielding and power in the combination of all five tools in this brilliant modern athlete packaged up with single thing that we now call a baseball player. The the only one that can rival. mookie Betts in fact is his better is my trump but the problem is they're never on the national spotlight. We never get to see this story. Play out in in front of our eyes. These two giants of the game these two greats of the game these two players that if they found a way to be in the world series against each other. Let's say to the next four years both in the city of Los Angeles would-be arguably the greatest player on player rivalry. We've seen since hence bird and magic manning and Brady now. Those sports are different because it can be more of the center of the show and bets is always only going the bat one part of the lineup and playing one part of the field and the same thing for Mike Trout. But it'd be the closest thing. Baseball has ever had to that in the modern era and and it would be awesome because they're both in the city Los Angeles so what. I help hopes the story of baseball moving forward what. I helped hopes the tale of baseball the hero the villain the plot. The characters is Mike Trout and mookie Betts being highlighted and showcased against each other in a world series or against each other throughout a season both in the city of Los Angeles both trying to obtain fans of team fame leading their teams to first place hitting home runs on the daily making diving. Plays on the daily stealing bags being the two best players in baseball by a wide margin agent in the same city competing for a title. That's what would be amazing for the sport of baseball. That's what would make my heart. Skip a few speaks. That's what would get juiced and excited for this game more than I've ever been excited for it. Hopefully it happens happens. Just don't think the angels would be able to get there and that's a real shame and that's part of the problem with baseball.

"Unbelievable news in the middle of a week in the middle of February snowstorm brewing. Doing here in the great city of Chicago I see the flurries beginning to fall. And What an interesting time for the big news of the baseball offseason to break. mookie Betts is headed to the Los Angeles dodgers excellent fielder by all accounts an excellent representative of an organization. A power bat a speedster Easter on the base paths a player that takes walks in dozen strike out if you designed a baseball player. It probably be somebody. mookie Betts or Mike Trout in those two are on a class. Ask their own in major league baseball right now. There's a chance at the end of this decade. The twenty twenties by twenty twenty five that the stretch from two thousand fifteen twenty twenty-five that decade of baseball will be completely defined by mookie Betts in my trowel not necessarily in postseason success but by who the best players in baseball were now for this storyline to complete it to be a historic dual. Like a Manning Brady you go through sports history and there's so many of these types of at the same time to dominant players magic and bird that type of thing there's GonNa be postseason success from my trout. There's going to have to be some matchups at more needs to happen for it to be that but in terms of raw who are the two best players. How dominant are these players? How much better are these players than everybody else us? Two Thousand Fifteen to twenty two thousand twenty five could very easily be in most likely will be mookie betts in my trial the two best players in baseball by a wide wide margin because the only players that come close in wins above. Replacement are Nolan Aaron Auto Christian Yelich and they just don't have the same type of glove same type of base running ability same type of electricity. That bets in trout bring and you see that reflected in wins above replacement. And you see that reflected in how valuable these players would be if you were just paying for winds. mookie Betts in my trout most valuable players in baseball and one of them just got moved incredible but the dodgers did something that I didn't expect so when I'm looking at this trade. I'm hearing the details details. I'm hearing the rumors. I just assumed it was going to be a classic baseball trade a classic okay. mookie Betts one year control. So we'll give you a major league ready ready player purdue go probably is going to be included in the deal maybe get grant or all the closer as well and you're GONNA get to prospects one prospect maybe some draft capital and. That's it and you were just going to get Lewke beds and have to give that up. Maybe eat a large contract and and if you're GONNA eat a large contract e every penny of it then you would get a player of Mukhi betsy caliber. But that's not what happened. The dodgers get the twins involved solved so that the red sox can take on do go and grab and the twins get a starter from the dodgers in Beta and the dodgers somehow get the Red Sox to give them David price which the red sox really didn't need David Price and if you're going to trade Buki bets anyway and price a guy that's dealt with injuries he's is owed an exorbitant amount of money over the next three years and this move you're clearly trying to get under the tax to make future moves. It'd be unrealistic. Keep David Price. So maybe he was always going to be included. But you would think the dodgers would eat all that salary especially considering the fact that they're under the tax themselves offs and somehow the dodgers bamboozle the red sox into pay in half the salary it's insane. It's absolutely crazy so so. The dodgers got David price who is more healthy than he was to start last season. Who won a world series in Los Angeles for the Red Sox in dodger stadium who has shown an ability to be a fantastic frontline? pitchers never had an opportunity to pitch in the National League think so he gets to switch leagues which is an advantage a lot of players stats especially American league. The National League. They usually go up in terms of pitchers they usually get better in terms of pitchers and the way David price pitches. It's going to take a second for that. Entire National League. Get used to him and he gets to go there. They get David price who might be an upgrade for the pitcher. They let go and they get them in half price. Get the red SOx to eat half his salary. I I mean frankly. It's like the red sox wanted to steal more than the dodgers which is mind blowing because the dodgers just got the second best player in baseball for a team that was already the favor of the National League. I just this deal is so incredibly unbelievable in terms of the fact that it even went down and now you have David price into me before we dive into the Red Sox end of this thing the David price aspect of this is the best part of the move for the Los Angeles dodgers because great you. mookie Betts mookie Betts is what he is clearly. He's the best player out of the deal. Getting David Price and getting the Red Sox to play pay half his salary is just such a frugal. SMART low risk high reward move for the Los Angeles dodgers because your your ceiling for David. Price is a guy finds rejuvenation in a new city and a new league with a strong rotation in a strong lineup. Tobacco him up feels a little more relaxed on the mound. Playing in a bigger ballpark doesn't have to pitch in fenway and he becomes not necessarily early David price of old but if three five three four. Era Guy who isn't afraid of big moments. Now you have a guy that can maybe eat up innings in terms of relief roll out of the bullpen in the playoffs. Be a fourth man in potential four-man playoff rotation or if he's good enough you have a playoff starter on your hands and David Price. It's absolutely incredible that they got that part of the deal. Now your lowest potential outcome per David price is he's injury prone and you know what you eat half his salary for the next three years and he'll give you some innings but about nothing else and you don't really get worse for it and you're still going to have a good playoff tation. You have some young players in the system that might be able to step up and eat regular season innings if David price workout enter the dodgers you could probably go out and get one anyway if that's what you need. It's an incredible deal. Incredible deal for the Los Angeles dodgers and the fact that David Price I was included at half price and the dodgers did not give up any of their best prospects. Any of the Teenagers due to low twenty year. Say those guys are going to be real good. Oh who I like Virgo I. I don't think he's going to be this amazing place definitely not going to be mookie Betts and it's just unbelievable to see give us a follow on twitter at GMC underscore score baseball so much more to get into with this deal so much fun to talk about in February of baseball trade. Did of this magnitude. We'll we'll get into later in this. Show what this means for baseball as a whole how. It's a good thing in my opinion and I have have a theory. I have a very fun theory. About what would make baseball absolutely perfect this season. And actually Mir's what's happening in another sport but then all comes up later in the show on the other side of the break. I want to dive into the red. SOx ended this deal because I've got people making excuses for the the Boston Red Sox. I've got people saying that. This is a deal the red sox had to do and I've got people saying that this is equivalent to the Red Red Sox dealing Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. It's it's at that level. Where do I land in that spectrum? I'll tell you that on the other side of the break you're listening to the G. S. M. C. Baseball podcast. Tired.

GMC Underscore Baseball. mookie Betts which by the way just so we. Ah Let's establish this. Before we dive into this trade before we dive into the details of the deal this entire show will be about this trade not much else to talk about in the world of baseball. I had planned for this show to talk about how Mike Mushtaq is might fit into the Cincinnati reds lineup. I'd planned and on this show to diamond is some more bronner topics in terms of baseball and baseball coaching. But this deal came through. I thought I might not get done until the deadline but Boston wanted to done before. Spring Training Boston wanted to get these bad headlines out of the way before they had start selling tickets before they had to start seeing fans before fans had to start thinking about baseball. They wanted to get this deal done. It's a business deal but before we get all into that we've got so much time time to talk about all of that stuff. What it means is this as bad as the Babe Ruth deal to the Yankees? There's a lot of things being thrown out there all lacrosse media and I really WanNa touch on all of those before we get to that. You need to understand how good mookie betts is so for a player. This was a great article by the ring. I really recommend you check it out. mookie Betts is the most valuable player to be traded under the age of twenty eight ever ever. It's never there's never been a player this good this young traded. It's never happened now. They've left in free agency. They been a little bit older. Alex Rodriguez wasn't even the player that Mookie Betts is now but he was twenty nine. Nearly twenty ninety nine leukerbad says just turning. Twenty eight. Rodriguez moved from the Rangers to the Yankees. The Yankees do the media season following out. They won one hundred games and ninety the next year and ninety the next and we know how effective Alex Rodriguez was throughout regular seasons while in New York. Now they didn't get done and win a world series in the years immediately. Following the trade for Alex Rodriguez. We understand what happened off the field but it was a massive deal for the Yankees. It worked another deal similar to this Josh Donaldson moving to the Blue Jays that worked for Toronto. They made to and so every time deal like this has been done. It's worked in Mookie. Betts is better than these players. mookie Betts had a better two year wins above replacement. The Alex Rodriguez when he moved to the New York Yankees. mookie Betts and Mike Trout are the two best players in baseball by a significant amount. Bats might trout in terms of position players and then after that it goes to Dolan Aaron Auto Christian Yelich but it's a wide gap. It's a gap of about eight war. Eight wins over the last two seasons McKee bats. It's not just like he's had just these past two years. He has been extremely effective and talented player for Boston. Over the last four his slash lines are incredible it is MVP season in two thousand eighteen. He was one of the top twenty seasons in Major League Baseball History Jeff Facade and MLB insiders said. He's the Best Red Sox put since Ted Williams and I looked over the numbers. You have to agree with them. mookie Betts is an incredible five tool player with no weaknesses in his game. A brilliant bat hits with power plays with speed great defensively and then everything we've heard about. mookie Betts off the field. Hard worker developed Philip Power in the minor leagues. A quiet guy good for the locker room already. A world series champion. So he's proved he can get it done in October. When it matters in baseball there is literally nothing wrong with Mukhi bets? That's what makes this trade so unbelievable and it's almost guaranteed to work for Los Angeles in some way now. I think that they were going to win. The analyst anyway and I don't really know if this changes their win total for the year baby bump it a little bit but win totals are so hard to predict in baseball especially with very ability. We'll see how Kershaw is this year. Can Rio repeat the sub three yard performance he had for the dodgers a year ago. Is the rotation going to be as good. Those are all questions for another day right. But this will assuredly be a good move for the dodgers for this season in terms of they will get better. They will be a better team. They're going to win the division. The nationally West is already settled in my eyes. I think the diamondbacks are GONNA make run. COMPADRES YOU'RE GONNA make not going to happen. That's the reason why the padres didn't make this deal because it was certainly a deal. They could have accomplished after we see. What the dodgers gave up the dodgers did not lose a single angle one of their top prospects? Now they lost Alex Dugo. WHO's a player that plays right field? Who had a to ninety similar slashed? What mookie Betts had this year but it's nearly defender offender is in nearly? The base runner doesn't have as much power. But he's only twenty three and they've got five years of club control. They get closer as as well granted all through one hundred miles per hour. Maybe can be a starter interesting piece for short not McKee bets. Just two major league ready young players that have volante control. The padres had that ammunition you know. Why the padres did make that deal? Because the padres know that they were going to win the yellow West even if they added. mookie betts this. He's he's they could've added mookie Betts and they weren't going to win the National League West and that's why the padres hung around this deal to see maybe if they could up the price for the dodgers. The dodgers didn't give up a single grain prospect in the dodgers get David price at half his salary. And the dodgers walk away with in my eyes looking through this trade arguably one of the best trades. I've ever seen in my lifetime in terms of what you're trying to accomplish accomplish with the trade right. The low risk high reward the potential for future gain the potential to win a world series. Is this year. You don't sacrifice a single top prospect you get better for this year. And if you can re-sign Mookie Betts you get better for the next seven seven eight years now well. The dodgers resign them. Yeah I think they will. Actually I think they have the money. I think the daughters might have been a team that he went to anyway. And get at this. The dodgers have executed all of this and they still won't be above the tax threshold for this season. They have figured this thing out. They are the best front office right now in sports. The rotation is excellent. Their relief pitching is excellent. Their lineup is excellent. It's crazy good. It's unbelievable and they didn't do it the way the Yankees have done. It which is a lot of spending in the Yankees yes developed some prospects aspects and I loved the Yankees in New York but the dodgers have been doing this for seven years and the dodgers are going to be under the tax this year and the dodgers have. mookie Betts in Clayton Kershaw Justin Turner Cory Seager Cody bellinger pollock and left. Gavin locks is incredible an incredible baseball team and incredible office in an incredible trade for the Los Angeles dodgers. So much to get into on today's program about this move what it means for both the dodgers the red sox there have been some overreactions and I want to emphasize the best part of this move in my eyes. The part of the move that I did not see coming from the Los Angeles dodgers. The part of the moved might actually end up winning the world series in the long run. We talk about that part of the mookie Betts Trade on the other side of the break..

"Couple of weeks I was GONNA say you're getting close. They're getting close and the dodgers. So far this off season trying to get Garrett Cole. Yankee tried to get Anthony. Rundown Angel today tried to get Stephen. Strasburg released is available as he became. It sounded like he was set set on staying in DC nats. They really haven't had anybody if had some guys here or there that they've added in the bullpen starting pitcher here and but nothing. That's really move the needle and nothing might move the needle more than mookie Betts and according to Jeff Passan. The dodgers are at the front of the stack. mookie Betts is not going to be on the Boston Red Sox Knox in two thousand twenty. The question at this point is he going to be with Los Angeles dodgers. Or is he gonNA be with the San Diego padres. Both of them have made multiple offers to the red sox. At this point you would have to think that the dodgers are the favorite the incentives. Just so much stronger for them to supplement the team that they've got already. They've won the National League West for what feels like a decade now whereas the padres would be getting mookie Betts for one year. They're probably not going to resign him in this. They probably won't give up as much value. The dodgers get mookie Betts and they're able to re sign him to a long term deal which would imagine if they're going to make a move like that. It's not done just for a one year rental bets bellinger. Seger the he's here for the long haul and I know I'm super high on Cory Seager and then you've got the next wave of guys whether it's Gavin Lux or will smith or these guys then all of the other pieces you've got around with JT and in Kiki Hernandez that that is a unbelievably loaded offensive team. It is. It is but we've been loaded before the question is when of those hits coming. You know we've not have been lacking in terms of scoring runs. We've been lacking and getting timely hits runners in scoring positions during the postseason Kabuki. Best iconic performers that the question to stat says he doesn't disappear in a postseason. He's not great statistically but he doesn't totally disappear we've had a guy that just disappeared So we can't have that going forward but I'm GONNA believe that. The dodgers are cheating themselves like Bloomingdale's not seven eleven and this is what I mean by that. A lot of my female friends who are asking me about dating advice. I'm like the Dr Ruth and our group not giving advice and the number one piece of advice I give them is if you that makes eleven you get treated like seven eleven if you open twenty four seven and you just fully junk. That's how people are gonNA treat. You like Bloomingdale's you exclusive and you WANNA take everybody's buddies credit card and stuff like that you are held up in a much higher regards. The dodgers are the Bloomingdale's right now. They're not acting desperate. They're not out there. Just we're going to get you anything. PAY FOR ANYTHING TO GET SOME BODIES. Why because they know what they have right now with? No changes is a value. This team right now can get back to the world series right now with Domke bets so when you sit in that position you can walk away and say no. That's the power position. I liked him being here. Say Travis but I like the fact that if we don't get mookie betts just like we didn't get cold just like we didn't get ren down. Just Strasbourg worry. We're still a favor to come out of the nail. I liked that he bets is the exception. Those I think Maggie bets is the guy that you do have to. You have to go all the way to seven eleven. which by the way? Don't throw shade on seven eleven a hotdog late at night from seven eleven. Not the end of the world have hotdogs bloomingdale. Should I go off. You know I I hear what you're saying. And and the dodger window is still open but this idea that the dodgers are just GonNa win the NFL West and perpetuity. We know that doesn't happen. I mean this is the what what you would imagine to be far past the end of an expected. Run where you're GONNA win your D teams. Don't win the division seven years in a row around very except except Travis. It's not like we're running the same guys out there. No we got youth that they've run some of the same guys out there. The pitching has been similar. Kershaw Max ax months. He was for New Jersey. No but this is a guy I want to read you. Some numbers the war through age. Twenty six okay wins above replacement. uh-huh this is how much you bring to your team. Just you not in the context of your team. Here are the names on this list through twenty six Babe Ruth. Mike Trout. Ted Williams ty Cobb Mickey Mantle Reggie Jackson Willie mays Lou Gehrig next on the name. mookie Betts. I mean we are in some rarefied the air with this guy. This is not just a dude. Who's Oh he's a nice player? It'd be nice to have him. This is a special guy. This is a guy that I do think that you change. Whatever your philosophy? CBS when it comes to spending money or player acquisition. This is a Guy Bryce Harper's name is not on their manny. Machado is name is not on there. He's not one of. He is a better player than the only other guy on this list. That's an active guy. Is Mike Trout. Who if we're being honest might be the greatest player ever I mean? He's trending in that direction. He's that good. So Oh that's the only other active guy other than the guy that you have a chance to go get if it's cost you a premium of ten percent more than you're comfortable doing do it the only reason why I'm cool. Who with the real reason is because it's not a cost is a lot to get him for that? Yeah you definitely pull the pull the trigger. But if the padres come out and says we're going to give the percentage of the team if you come you're not you're not gonNA get into a bidding war like that Sam different you know what else reading that list. Just is just a Gut Punch the Mike Trout's on the angels sincerely because Babe Ruth Yankees World Series Championships Ted Williams. The Boston Red Sox didn't get a world series but was in the mix overnight. Mickey Man Reggie Jackson Willie Mays Joe Dimaggio. The Mike. Trout has gone through the better part of ten years of his career at this point. Or what does it eight. Now I guess and played in three playoff games. Yeah but don't you just listed. They all had teammates there in the hall of fame to their smoke. That's the point slowly. Only slowly building team. They got a tiny get down. Who thinks all of La is Hollywood? For some reason I have to Orange County a little different. You know that dead bet pilot dirt in the middle of the field. They need to find some guys to stay on top of that and do some work. It's an it's an important part of the game president. Donald in here next cross doc. It's coming up in the morning show on seven ten. ESPN all right. Let's George George lists start. Let's get right to it L. C.. Had his this Top Ten this morning for the top ten acts at La Super Bowl which is coming up in ten years. I was GONNA say in two years amongst the top ten was share. Who who you decide on getting a little shade on against shade? Not Quite sure why. She's got a vegas that sells out every time so she's fully prepared to perform form in front of a large audience. Are you here for share as the halftime show. I feel like this I. I'M NOT I L I love you but I feel like this is almost it's like What the people like Peter Graham who is tweeting out there from the Bob Graham Society or whatever that was tweeting out about how the this is is not what happened what transpired at the Super Bowl. This year is not what families should be watching the religious Franklin Graham. Yes yeah we don't pay attention. Yeah Yeah I feel like that so I remember the Janet Jackson Booby Gate. Scenario was Justin Timberlake's fall by Justin Timberlake's but I remember the follow. You do remember who the act was in Jacksonville. Who owed group like that? It was Paul McCartney collected. Yeah not that share share would be Paul McCartney but it would feel like we're appealing to maybe an older demographic realize she's as risque as I know. Yeah Yeah Yeah you WANNA see her. Jonas doesn't together. It says Sharon France could be a friend. I don't WanNa see share with anybody. Is Bruce Hall of fame. Saying I'm guessing tunnel. Now you're taking full ownership Rabat Russia's what number on the list. She's number nine okay. Who was Ted I? ooh ooh about that. That's a good idea. Yeah.

"A coincidence that when you look at the younger guys a guy like mookie betts who had a bit of a dip last year he wasn't trending in the direction that he is this year last year he really took a step back but then you added guy jd martinez a that gives him additional protection on the field it gives them protection in that lineup and it gives him a sense of relief where he can sort of take a deep breath where last year there was no deep breadth to be had for mookie betts but then when you look to your left and you see jd martinez in the clubhouse and you see him go through everything he goes through all the studying that he does all the preparation that jd martinez puts into his game to ultimately be as successful as he's been that rubs off on younger guys and i don't think it's a coincidence that guys like mookie betts and that was andrew bogart's guys that needed that older veteran player who's got that track record of success to look up to now these here i don't think it's a coincidence that these guys are having really good years i don't think that you can underplay that either and i think that jd martinez helps hold these guys accountable and he is that veteran presence in the lineup that this team was sorely lacking last year and unfortunately going into last year we all thought thought that the guy that was going to be that veteran leader in the lineup and in the clubhouse was going to be dustin pedroia but that never happened last year it turned out that he wasn't the natural leader that we all thought he could be that we all thought he thought he wanted to be it turned out he wanted no part of that role of being the leader of this team last year and he was much more of a follower than we ever knew and now this year without pedroia at all really even around this team he has been exiled from the team right now he's out working out i believe in arizona right now trying to get his knee right they don't miss him at all and i wonder if that's something that you know if we should expect to see does the betrayal back here this year now in the media there's a lot of people that advocate for dustin pedroia rob bradford loves him i mean there's guys up and down the media he's been here for a long time he's a likable guy he's had a lot of success here but we talk about the bad contracts on this baseball team we talked about a guy like david price and his horrific contract there is an argument that could be made that dustin pedroia has a worse contract right now then david price because you're getting zero production from royal where at least with david price you're getting some election at least with david price i mean overall he's not living up to the contract but he is ten and six on the season he's gonna make his next start at least with david price he is a contributing member of this baseball team with dustin pedroia he is not and he hasn't been for quite some time with dustin pedroia he's somebody that i'm not sure physically he's going to be able to come back in ever produced that anything even close to what we expect of him so ultimately when you look at the years remaining and the dollars remaining on prices contract joyous contract the argument could certainly be made that dustin pedroia is more is more of an albatross contract wise then david price because at least for everything that david price doesn't give you at least he comes out and he's pitching at least he's ten and six at least he's making some sort of contributions to this baseball team so it is sports radio w red sox review the red sox they win today five to two over the toronto blue jays they head into the all star break thirty eight games over five hundred we will continue to talk about it with you guys at.

"Incredible incredible player mookie betts an incredible at that by an incredible player mookie betts served that one over the monster and it was it was awesome any showed a ton of emotion running down to first base to thirteen pitch at bat is insane and it was great and there's a lot of videos today where you could watch all thirteen pitches right in a row and then ending with his grand slam put the team up and they they held on to win david price state in six and two thirds he was fine as a little much that he got a standing ovation but whatever you're trying to get this guy to like you i personally would never trust david price at a big spot i i'm not a fan of david price it's hard for me to root for him but so be it that's what people decided to do yesterday but i give bets i think was the lead story in the game so after the grand slam and after the game here's what he had to say yeah i mean bad obviously he was tough today swinging through battled forty thing wasn't just need that we had to overturn call a wall near hustling now that hit amid just a collection of everything and then getting a fish to hit the emotional kind of calm down at that point it seems like it seems like he's a little little level headed there but also in that at bat i forget what pitcher was but he hit a little foul ball on the right side there justin smoak really should have been able to make a play any didn't you yet his back to to to home plate and he's running behind it hit his glove i mean that that could have been a whole lot different in the game but it wasn't the only thing we ended up getting into today a little bit was mookie betts versus mike trout and how these are the two best players in all of baseball right now maybe you want to throw a pitcher in there but i think it's these two guys the everyday players these are the two best guys and they're still young i mean mookie betts is only twenty five mike trout is twenty six and there's not another player besides trout that i would want employees instead of mookie betts he's gotten to that level even last year where it wasn't a great year for betsy only to sixty four but he had twenty four homers one hundred two rbi and he was sixth in the american league mvp vote you also want a gold glove the year before he should have won the mvp but he finished second and this year he's going to be right there again right now i would say jd martinez is the first half mvp but mckee bats is right there and then you got my trout and everything that he does and his on base percentage which is insane and you know the power numbers the speed numbers everything that that he does and i also i go back to mookie betts going arbitration this year is he going to be a lifelong red sox 'cause a moment like last night you say wow this is we had a caller today i think he was right saying this is david ortiz type of moment and you haven't had any of those moments in the last couple of years without ortiz this felt like that but the crowd even if even though it's game in july for them to get that fired up about it and to work in a bat that way and then to have it end with an absolute rocket that was such david ortiz type moment that we saw for mookie betts will he.
