I'm on a bunch of pop culture podcasts this week. Did a rewatchables on Monday night. We did Black Hat. Also was on the Big Picture. We did a big Denzel Washington movie draft. I got way too competitive. And then on Wednesday night, Amanda Dobbins and I on the Prestige TV Podcast, we broke down the first two episodes of season three of The Morning Show. The most ridiculous show on television, not just this year, but every year it's on. It just wins the title automatically. If they had a ridiculous show category at the Emmys, they wouldn't even have any of their nominees. I mean, maybe winning time would get nominated. I don't know. But Morning Show just clears it out. What a batshit, crazy, ridiculous show. Wow. It's really like they created a podcast thing so we could just break down the morning show. That's really, I think, the real reason behind podcasting in general. Coming up on this podcast, Million Dollar Picks and a little Vikes Eagles at the top. And then editor at large at the Ringer, Brian Curtis, who was also a giant Cowboys fan, comes on and talk about the Cowboys. Could this be the year? Keep saying that, but could this be the year? And we talked some NFL stuff. We talked some sports media stuff. We talked about documentaries and just all the stuff that happens when Brian Curtis comes on. Oh, we talked about Joe Buck and Troy Aikman as well, who have hit a really interesting milestone as a combo. So that happened. And then Kevin Hench, my buddy, the Red Sox fired their GM today, and we couldn't resist spending 20 minutes recapping. One of the four -year oddest, strangest four -year runs the Red Sox have ever had. And we're still in the middle of it. And I still don't understand why Mookie Betts isn't on the team but also like, man, since the 2018 World Series, the Red Sox have just been a hot dumpster fire. And I say that knowing that they almost made the World Series two years ago, but when you look at everything that happened, wow. So Hench comes on and talk about that. It is all next. First, our friends from Pearl Jam. ["Pearl Jam Theme Song"] All right, I'm taping this part of the podcast. It is 11 .31 East Coast time. East Coast Bill is here. East Coast Bill is in Boston. I was visiting my daughter and doing some other stuff. And Thursday Night Football came on and I thought it would be a great idea to do the top segment after Eagles Vikings. East Coast Bill fell asleep at halftime. It was a new record for me. I guess I'm old. I have another birthday coming up this week. This is why I live on the West Coast because I talk about sports for a living. And East Coast Bill gets a little sleepy when the game is kind of boring and plodding along. So East Coast Bill missed some time, had to catch up, had to do a little rewind. Fortunately, there's so many commercials. I was able to still watch anything, but the Eagles beat the Vikings. They're now 2 -0 on the season. And I would say it's an uninspiring 2 -0. They probably shouldn't have covered against the Pats. They could have lost. This game they win, they don't cover. I guess on the good side, the DeAndre Swift, they traded like a 15th round pick in 2038 for them. And this little way they put together their offense where they load up on wide receivers, they hit the jackpot with hurts, and then they just say, you know what we're going to do? Just grab running backs because there's 98 of them every year. We're just going to grab two and pay nothing for them. So offensively, they look great. Defensively, you saw it last week with the Pats. The Pats were able to throw it on them. Mack almost had 300 yards in the last three quarters of that game. This game, Kirk Cousins, over and over again, heroically going for the cover, finally gets it. The Vikings cover, they don't win. Home team's now 5 -12 against the spread this season. Underdogs are 10 -7 against the spread. But for the most part, not allowed to report, the Eagles just state. They messed around in the first quarter and then said, screw it, and ran the ball down Minnesota's throat. I was thinking, Eagles, Cowboys, if you were going to make a combined over or under for wins for them, and I gave you 26, would you go over or under 26 wins combined for the two teams? They're 3 -0 right now. I would probably go over, especially when you look at the NFC and you think Philly, Dallas, San Francisco, lock those three down. I like Green Bay, Detroit, maybe New Orleans, Atlanta, and maybe that's the seven for the playoffs. And then you have Tampa Bay and the Rams. Who knows what was real and what wasn't real. Tampa Bay beat Minnesota by three in week one. We're like, oh, Tampa Bay, that's interesting. But now Minnesota's 0 -2, maybe that doesn't even matter. Rams, who knows? I mean, they just have so few good players that the moment two of them get hurt, it feels like their free fall will happen. So the NFC is already kind of uninteresting, I guess is my bigger point. Unless the Giants can rally, and who knows after the 40 -0 debacle last week, they're playing Arizona this week, so they looked out of that. But for the most part, it seems like three good teams, maybe the Packers, maybe the Lions, maybe the Saints, and then we're going to have a really bad seven seed. So if you're Minnesota, and you're looking at 31 of 270 teams started 0 -2 and made the playoffs since 1990. 31 out of 270. I can't do math, but that's not good. If you're Minnesota, at what point do you consider trading Cousins? Cousins was all over the place on the internet this week as a possible Rogers replacement. He makes 35 million this year, that's it. The Jets, I think, could do some chicanery if they wanted to. They have this thing where the Packers, it's a conditional, I think second, that turns into a first, but the Packers would have to waive the right for the condition. Clearly, Rogers is going to play 70 % of the plays, but still, they'd have to figure out some way. But if you're the Jets, could you somehow trade for Cousins and save your season? We're going to find out a lot about the Jets this week against Dallas. They get annihilated and they're one -on -one for the season, but annihilates Dallas them and they have to look at their offense and go, all right, we have a really good team. What are we going to do? Is it Jacoby Brissett or do we swing big and try to get Cousins for a year? Cousins has over 700 yards and six TDs in the first two weeks. He's been a fantasy god. I don't know how that plays out. I wish it was like basketball where I could just put stuff in the trade machine and see if it's going to work. For some reason, we made football trades more complicated than basically anything on the earth. I have no idea how the Jets would trade for Cousins, how it'd work, what the mechanics of it would be. What's he worth? Is he worth a first rounder for one year? Is he worth a third rounder? You just never know. Again, DeAndre Swift went for a 15th rounder in 2038. Cousins, I have my eye on because if you're Minnesota, you're not good. You were completely lucky last year to go 13 and four, whatever it was. Now that's evened out and maybe you start looking around and going, all right, let's pack in this year. I don't know what would have to happen, what number they would have to get to. Would they have to be one and four, one and five, one and six? But Cousins to the Jets, it's a fun talk radio topic, at least. We're not doing talk radio here. We're doing sleepy sports podcasting, but Cousins to the Jets has always felt right. It's always felt kind of perfect. He always just felt like a Jet waited to happen at some point in his career. The Jets fans listening to this right now are like, how can he keep doing this to us? We just had the Rogers thing. We had Zach Wilson. Now you're gonna throw Cousins at us. But again, Cousins, a little bit of a turnaround. He was in that Netflix show. He's kind of the big winner of quarterbacks with Mariota being the big loser. But I feel like the tide's turning on Cousins. Even Primetime Kirk today, always a disaster, gets the cover. Who knows? Put him in New York. We'll see. Philly's got, they're just basically have to figure out what their team is. They've already had a bunch of injuries and they even had a little AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts. Who knows what happened on the sidelines there, but didn't look awesome. But they have two months here to figure out their team. They're a big stretch. Week nine, Sunday, Dallas, that's home in Philly. Bi -week, week 11 at Kansas City on a Monday night. Week 12, Buffalo home. Week 13, San Francisco home. And week 14 at Dallas. So again, Dallas at KC, Buffalo, San Francisco at Dallas. And that's gonna be the five game stretch that determines are we a one seed? Are we a two seed? What is our season gonna look like? And they just have to get there. They have to stay healthy and they have to get to that point. So not a lot of lessons from Philly, Minnesota. Do I regret staying up? Although I guess I didn't stay up because I got this little nap in at halftime.

We would get some hits, you know, today, so the offense has been, you know, they've been hitting the ball well. Luis Garcia had the big one, a tie breaking three run shot in the 8th inning. "The Dodgers blank the Padres for nothing to sweep their weekend series, Mookie betts got the offense started with a two run Homer in the third inning. LA is won 5 straight in bet says things are starting to gel. Just as a long season and I think we're just playing ball. You know, we have a really good team and we're just showing it. "And what is this clue? They notice an eBay listing. For the Sandoval and Plato jerseys, the Giants jerseys. A couple days later, they find another listing. This time for the tatis gear for $15,000 total for the two jerseys plus the parabolic gloves. Grab a TV bay lesson, and he thinks, oh shit. Okay, so there are these jerseys listed on eBay for a lot of money. Stephanie, how do they know that these are in fact real jerseys? And the jerseys that were stolen. Do they know that that's the case? I didn't know any of this, but pinstripe jerseys are individually made, so they're a little bit like fingerprints, the pinstripes fall in different places on each Jersey. So you can compare where the line crosses a letter from photos to tell if this is a Jersey that you've seen this person wearing. Between that and loose threads in photos, you can tell with a fairly good degree of certainty, whether the player has in fact wore on this Jersey. They're actually cross referencing photos of the player wearing the Jersey in games with this listing on eBay and confirming this is in fact the same Jersey. Correct. So it looks legit. And so that kind of freaks everybody out because how are they getting this stuff? Right. And then it only gets more stressful because the Dodgers get to town. And the eBay account that was listing Sandoval on cueto's jerseys is now listing Mookie betts batting gloves. And everybody starts freaking out because basically the most important item in the sport at this point is Clayton

"July 26th and tonight's mega millions jackpot is an estimated a new tax, $830 million. 830 million to get that grade school stuff out of here because nobody hit and now the giant mega millions lottery jackpot is ballooned to over a $1 billion. No one matched all 6 numbers and won the top prize. Next drawing is Friday. Wanted to put some money. She got some time. Okay. Yeah, we're gonna get 401k withdrawals. There's the odds of hitting that are one in three hundred plus million. So it's slightly lower than the Red Sox. Yeah. So I've got a chance at what you're saying. Okay. Okay, trade deadline. What are the Red Sox two? First of all, everybody's injured. I don't know if you can trade an injured player, but the last place Boston Red Sox, heading into August. With the Orioles well on top of them, the trade deadline is a big deal. They got to give something away to get 14 draft picks. Well, yeah. So now if you're the Red Sox, what mindset do you take? It's like, all right, we're in the last place. Are we going to try to make a drive now to at least fight for something in the playoffs? Or are we playing the next day? So do they rip out the Detroit tigers page with all that experience? Well, you know what, I've had some guys on my team and I love Spencer torkelson. I think they sent him back to the miners and a keel. Remember Akhil badu, it was while he was in the miners. The Tiger sent him back there, then the tigers brought him back up again. Do the Red Sox ever sell players, Tom? Did they ever throw the ball? This is all new for them. The Red Sox have been so outstanding to be in the last place. They don't have to August. It's like we're just saying that they've done it. They've done this. I just didn't know if the Red Sox were had the mindset that that's not what we do. You know, Mookie betts. There you go. Yeah. That's worked out for the Dodgers. Yeah. Talk about that. I mean, people converted to calvinism over the Mookie betts. They're still upset. There's another scene. The trade deadline is a big deal. It's here, right? It's only days away. And mister Soto of the washingtons is like the guy. Yeah. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, he says, he's just strikes. You look great. Michael Barr, thank you so much. "Hey everybody, it is drags Mike petrolia once again coming at you on the ceiling media network with another episode of Red Sox beat. This week, Alex barth of 98 5, the sports hub is back citgo sign in all baseball cap on, ready to talk a little Trevor story joining the Boston Red Sox this week. I'm bloom, Alex. Finally made the big splash Red Sox fans were hoping for in terms of signing a free agent who could really help the Red Sox offensively right handed bat, of course. He fills a need on the infield, though it's not as natural position. He's never played second base, but we're going to find out if he can play second base with the Boston Red Sox as Xander Bogart's stays at home at shortstop. So Trevor's story signs 6 years, a $140 million. That's $22.5 million AAV. And there is a 7th year option that kicks in if the Red Sox choose to do so by the fourth year of his contract, they pick up the option and it extends to 7 years and a $160 million, but Trevor's story on board with Boston Red Sox. I like the deal. How about you? Yeah, I really do. I like it from a number of different angles. I like the short term impact. I like the long-term impact, but I thought the contract itself was very team friendly. You mentioned the money compared to what some of these other guys got. You look at Carlos Correa. So this is the move Red Sox fans have been waiting for. I think they've been waiting for since Mookie betts got traded, right? Was all right, you're going to dip back below the CBT. You're going to reset that penalty and then come back out swinging and we were all waiting for the swing and here it is. So it was good to see it. It seemed like it wasn't going to happen for a little bit there. Guys were flying off the board left and right and there were only a couple of those marquee free agents left, but whether you assign a march 1st or march 20th, the guy is still going to be in the lineup opening day, so it all worked out..

"The, who call up younger players and start their clock younger. And if let's say you do that, then you get to keep the player for, let's say, maybe 7 years. If you bring a player up, let's say, 22. And then maybe keep them in the organization guaranteed through their till their 27. To me, that's a reasonable compromise. But these teams are very concerned about losing players when they hit 25, 26, 27. And then they have to start the process all over again. And that really hurts them competitively. Yeah, I think if you want to apply a number to it, you mentioned F four. I think the number you really apply to it is age and maybe you have different stipulations for guys drafted out of high school guys drafted out of college. You can kind of set guidelines based on acquisition, agent acquisition or something like that. But it's an imperfect system. The arbitration system isn't in perfect system. It is something they need to fix. All right, let's move on to luxury chax. Say one thing about John Henry and the Red Sox ownership. They have never been afraid to spend money for the most part. There was all of that stuff about when they traded Mookie betts and they have in the last couple of years, tried to get back under the luxury tax threshold. And some Red Sox fans were furious about the way they handled it. But I think long-term for the competitive balance of a team that is willing to spend up to that luxury tax threshold and has one four World Series titles, they deserve the benefit of the doubt. That is just pure simple fact if you ask me. What's also interesting is, you know, they hired a general manager and hind bloom, director of baseball operations. Who is really intent on building the farm system back up. In other words, what the Red Sox are trying to do is they're trying to be respectful of the luxury tax plus develop their own homegrown talent like Theo Epstein envisioned back in 2004, 2003. It's telling that the league calls the luxury tax, the competitive balance tax. The owner's position the thresholds and accompanying penalties is critical to limiting the disparity between big spenders and small. John Henry's a big spender, but he is trying to act more like a small market team. You agree with that? Yeah, I think and this is part of it too, you know, slow me down if I'm jumping ahead, I think you mentioned.

"In town and we're all rolling with everything going right now, obviously with the NHL NBA seasons in full swing as well as the Patriots who apparently a little bit of life. They're back again. We'll take it back. Yeah. I'll take a take whatever we can. If there's been a couple of bloody, you know, there's been a couple of days already with multiple Boston teams losing in one day. It's nice to have one where they all win. And that's if you had on Sunday, so yeah, we'll take it. Thanks, Connor. And finally, let's talk some baseball bring in Sean mcadam. A last shot in the season is over Red Sox season. Go down in 6 games to the Houston Astros in the ALCS. There's no way to look at the season as anything other than obviously a victory. I know at the time I'm sure people started having fanciful dreams of a World Series trip, you know, especially after two one. But hard to argue this was a real successful campaign for the Red Sox based off of expectations that the question I think going forward as we're already starting to look into the off season into the next season what's sustainable here? What if the Red Sox actually built? They did a great job putting together a team that played hard was competitive was Gritty with some spare parts and some bargain basement picks and things really worked out for them. But going forward, what do you see as sustainable in terms of building a building a program, so to speak that's going to have long-term success? Yeah, well, let's start with the nucleus or the building block there, which is the left side of the infield the Devers and bogarts. They're under control for a while. Bogarts does have the opt out after 2022. But they do have control in theory of those two guys for a while. I would expect that trying to extend Devers will be a priority over the winter. They don't want to have him get close to free agency the way Mookie betts did so close that he can taste it and figures it's better to go out and see what else is out there. I think they have to be aggressive in that regard..

"But shouldn't game changing series turning to run home runs be a get on my back and follow me moment. And twice the Dodgers have recovered, have gotten those home runs and been like, let's lose. Like, it's just weird. It is weird. And look, we'll keep talking about the Red Sox. Complementing the Red Sox, the Red Sox have say what you want. Traded Mookie betts great. Guess what? They went out and they got guys who had chips on their shoulders and had personalities that that really put them over the edge and allowed them to perform in these big game situations. KK Hernandez, why did he leave the Dodgers? He wanted more playing time. He wanted a starting role. He was ready to start playing Morgan. And it was hard for the daughters to incorporate into him into their plan because of the depth that they had. And the Red Sox were like, great. We'll take a chance on a guy who wants to play who wants to know him from team PR. And then you look at you look at a guy. I know Chris sale obviously is was acquired a long time ago, but, you know, that's an ace that that's a great personality to have at the top of your rotation who's yelling who I know it's annoying to me. I hate it. But he clearly moves the needle for that team in that motivation regard. You look at Alex Quora, very outspoken guy, supports his players also, is it afraid to be honest in candid? He's the opposite of Aaron Boone. I know, I know we're mostly talking about players right now, but that also that also goes hand in hand with influencing the culture and whatnot. So I think I do think it's valid and I think the big problem a big problem with the Yankees is they're just looking at numbers. Great. Who hits home runs? Who gets on base? Who has a high spin rate? Okay, bring them in, cool. And then you have a roster of robots. I love Aaron judge, but like, Aaron judge, you didn't start saying like cool stuff until like the final week of the season. "And if he can't, why can't we get somebody else who can? Exactly. Why are we jumping through hoops again? We don't know if this is true. This is all this is all. This is all based on reports and leaks and buzz and what people are hearing, but why are we going to jump through hoops to keep Aaron Boone if he doesn't possess the necessary personality traits to elevate this roster or to maximize talent or to do whatever, whatever it may be to get this team over the hump because 92 wins with this roster, I get it where 91 team it still feels good to have a winning record. But it's not with the expectation is you don't have an assortment of all stars. You don't have an assortment of the highest paid players in the game and end up tied with your division rivals who cheaped out on free agents who lucked out with replacement level players coming into fill in the gaps left by Mookie betts and others. It's a terrible look. That's all the indication you need. And look, you're going to watch it on full display here, guys. Alex Cora in my opinion has already managed this pre ALCS perfectly. I'm not going to get into the details because I'm not talking about the Red Sox anymore. So you're going to watch the ALCS, you're going to see the differences in how this man situates his roster, formulates the lineup, executes his pitching changes and it's all you need to know because a bad cop disciplinarian in the shadows in the Yankees dugout is not going to do that for Aaron Boone. You think Aaron Boone is going to make the call to the dugout and then sub lunatic's going to come behind him and rip the phone out of his hand and smash it and say, no, that's the wrong decision dude. We're not going with that. And Aaron Boone's gonna listen. That's not how this works. He needs to have the he needs to have the instinct in the gumption himself to make these decisions that are tough that either that are putting that have the Yankees in a bind and need to get them out of it or to have them avoid the bind altogether, and that's what we haven't seen, and that's the chief problem here..

And look, I have been shitting on the Yankees all year for not coming through in big moments for leaving opportunities out there to just wither away and die and then kill all the momentum possible. The Yankees took every opportunity in stride here and did the most they could possibly do with it. The Red Sox did absolutely nothing. They were trying to they were trying to cling to a one rud lead that was given to them because of Aaron Boone shitting his pants and players for getting how to play defense. And then you're gonna blame Joe west on a call that doesn't even end the inning. If it ended the inning, we're having a completely different conversation. Completely different conversation. I also believe I may be wrong, but I believe that Joe west is the one who took Jose Altuve's home run off the board in the 2018 ALCS. He did in right field. A call that I still don't understand. And a call that propelled the Red Sox to a World Series run. Jose L two a Homer. Mookie betts went into the stands and dropped it. It was called not a home run because Joe didn't feel like giving him a home run. I hate the Astros. Folks, breaking news. I don't like the Houston Astros. But this was a ball was in the stands and Mookie betts crashed into a fan and Joe west was just like, it's not a home run because yeah, I don't know. I just don't think it's a home run. Mike, not true, buddy, not true at all. You face the two worst teams in baseball because the schedule gods are on your side. You're gonna be fine. "And a lot's gonna change depending on September and October. 'cause I don't know. Maybe they lose the wild card game. And a complete implosion feels necessary. Maybe they go on a magical run in Jewish Ella is the ALCS MVP. They're probably not trading with that peak as much as they'd like to. Honestly, it's ridiculous, but the small sample size of September and October are probably going to affect this team's next steps more. And then you want them to. Maybe they wouldn't for a ruthless asshole team like the Red Sox who, you know, Red Sox propaganda in full force. Again, as they choke away every bit of their lead, I still saw a lot of hunter Renfro as outperforming Mookie betts takes on Tuesday. Yeah, have them fucking both losers. You could have both. You could have both players. I think an asshole team like the Red Sox would not look at the narrative and would just go and start stripping bear. It doesn't matter who the ALCS MVP is. If we're gonna have a confusing fit for him on the roster in 2024, then he's gone. But I do think the eggies are gonna look at that. And I do think, you know, or shalla is more likely to be the odd man out and then they use a combination of like Wayne Velazquez on the bench next year, move labor to second move DJ to third, mess around, you know, extending or extend Rizzo, keep boy, whatnot. I think the next month that I have is going to matter. But as of now, I do think Velazquez probably the first man off the roster for Torres and they're using him now to use him as long as they have him. Yeah. It's unfortunate, but we hopefully have better guys coming back. Hopefully we're Torres got the rest that he needed to kind of get back on track. We still have not seen what we needed to see from him this year. Maybe that now that's going to be something that you have to watch in September because are they going to want to go into the playoffs with a shaky labor shaky defensive glaber if he doesn't look good over the last three weeks of the season at short?.

"A half they're done. I don't want those are two eight years alien opponents that they need to win games against boston specifically eight games. That's a lot of games and then three against tampa that's that's a huge huge huge swing with a team. That's at five hundred right now coming out of it so we very well may be trading assets at the trade we will. It'll be clear as day if it's a if it's trading could be clear as day they should trade or not so if i'm trading all go to the top here again. These are not my personal opinions. Because i have thoughts on everything here but i'm trading. At that point i would look to trade aaron judge and see what i could get on the market. I would look to see what the market is for that player understanding that there is a log jam of contracts. He needs to be extended he he will be a large contract and the fact that giancarlo stanton is there it puts a very big problem into what whoever the general managers at that time can do with a guy like aaron judge in a contract like that so that said i'm making juncture play right field. He will be the if i'm trading this He would be the new rightfielder. And if you're looking at a way to unclog it you can't trade stanton's contract stands not going anywhere. So what do you have to do. You have to trade judge. It's the only look. I i've loved judge. I love aaron judge like i probably like him a lot more than a lot of other people. I like the way he plays. I like a lot of things about him. And i like him off the field on the field. He's just like the guy. And i really want him to be that guy. I wanted him to be the guy for a long time. But when you look at take the big names away look at the contracts. Look at the what were they play. Look at the type of player they are. He's the guy that you would have to trade if that's going to happen because you will get something back for him. The problem is at the at the trade deadline. You only have a limited amount of teams that you're going to be dealing too so you're not going to get most likely you could get some overpayment based on a team that needs like chicago when they made that trade. They won't who knows you could argue the other way now. We've seen what labor is so far and chapman But day they overpaid because they were in a position to win and they had never won. It was a unique situation but if aaron judge is going to be made available at the deadline there's not the same amount of the teams that would be available to him There will be available to court him in the off season when it's not the remainder remainder of the season at bay. You're looking at a longer term deal. There's a lot more uncertainty. I think with the With with the way that the The players association and the the ownership collective bargaining agreement. So there's a lot of muddy mud in the in the water and smoke in the air. But he's the guy he's got to get a hold back of young talent to try to reset this thing. You would have to give judge. I think you're not getting a hall of young talent fair judge. He doesn't have that. What you value when you look across the the roster you're getting the biggest haul for him you didn't mention May maybe you didn't mention guys like jewish. Shallow who's locked locked up for cheaper and longer and is a very valuable third baseman or luke. Voight who's locked up for cheap as valuable first baseman. I don't know what you're doing with your your trae. Geo like that. Gio is not a problem i want. Go on this team. This is the this if your cell. Neither is aaron judge. If you're if you're talking about judge you not get more assets again. I'm looking at an impact. That right now you have to remember with. I think i when you compare the loss of judge for the assets you're getting to the loss of geo for the assets getting you could make an argument. Maybe geo would have more. I don't know what the reason to reason why the reason why that's wrong is because stanton now slides into that same spot and if you look at their numbers on offensive basis. They're not that different. In fact starting saying might even have better numbers. What do you expect. You don't have to give me specifics. But like what type of hall are you expecting for. Aaron judge i. I don't know. I haven't thought about it enough to say like who i would expect back but they would have to be top prospect and i. You can not doing it mookie. Betts gets traded offseason. But it was going to be a full year of mookie betts for the dodgers and what the dodgers gave back were Verdoux go who is a plug in now quality outfielder to replace mookie betts. He's he's having a good season. Where was where was he on their prospect. He wasn't a prospect. He was already playing for he was already plant. Okay yeah where was he before he got up there prospect. I don't i don't know no. I don't think he was ever a top rank prospect and then they gave The jeeter downs guy who was not their top prospect and then they gave. I think a couple of other guys was not a big by no means slapstick prospects book by no means high end like hall type blockbuster prospects okay you gotta plug in now player and you got a few nice minor league pieces for a year of mookie betts. Mookie betts healthier.

"Um, like my question, you know that I want you to talk about is the quarterback place between Aaron and Tom. Well, my question goes to I was I played quarterback. In high school. I played quarterback in college, and there were times or I'm telling the coach I got the play. Trust me. I got the play and I feel like, you know, we look at that game. Tom Brady, Bruce Arians. They have the trust. I think right before half. Tom Brady told Bruce Arians, keep your kick team on the sideline. I got this. Let me show you what I got. And I don't think there's that trust with Aaron Rodgers and his his coach, and to me, you know, I put it on Aaron Rodgers to He is an M V. P. He's a great quarterback. You mean, he should have told Coach? I got this. You keep your taking team, Mason Crosby, you go the bench. I got this. Even if you didn't make it, I have a lot more respect for Aaron Rodgers. I Gone. On his coach, telling the team telling the sand table. Give me one more shot at this. I can do it, and I think the team you know that's what they want to see in a quarterback, and I think that's why Tom Brady's the Goat. And I think Aaron Rodgers. He deserves everything he's got, and you will be a Hall of Famer, but I think that's the difference between Com Brady and Aaron Rodgers. They appreciate the phone call. It's very simple here, Rogers The conversation for him to be a hall of Famer in that meeting room with all the Hall of Fame voters would be about two seconds. Yes, Yes, yes, yes! Yes, Hall of Famer. Him not getting that second ring if his career doesn't result in a second championship. I know wondering is great. And I know one ring should be celebrating is how many guys would die just to get one ring. But when you get that ring so early in your career, and then you're in that title game four times And you and it wasn't his fault, losing to Seattle that the special teams play and the defense choked. We all know that. They lose in overtime. But the last three games, his teams were not existent against the Falcons in the 40 Niners. And they get back in the game after a bad first half. No, they fumble the ball coming out of second half. It looks like the bucks gonna blow him out when they get back in that game, a 28 2 23, and I know people are probably gonna exact why you keep on repeating yourself because it is still mystifying to may. It is still in the nick. But to me how Aaron Rodgers and I'm not going to say that him and before I don't think the relationship is great. It almost questioning it when things were going perfectly this year. Beginning the season. Some questions what happened the off season when this team is that in the post season there anyone think about the relationship of marriage for so I'm not gonna do that today that relationship But when you have three Tries to to go take the lead, and then one To go tie the game and you only walk with three points. It's on the floor. It's also in the quarterback, and if we could get out Roger on the show, and I know that's not gonna happen because we're not Pat McAfee. But if we get out Rogers on the show, I want to know this. Why don't you run the football? Covered in gold. You had a path that look like you're about to take off. Then you threw the football. I don't know if he necessarily gets in. Personally, I think he does get in. But if you don't you have to to And Ryan. I ask you this. I think it's an obvious answer if it's fourth and goal at the two Getting Leffler makes the same decision. I don't think he does, right. Would you agree that 12%. I'm with you. You get four yards. They're going for it. So even if you don't score there and you, you pick up Six yards there to get you down to the two Home. You're going for it, but yeah, I'm Rogers. In that spot. I know it's not every quarterback to help their coach, brother. Everybody yelled in my coach, a coach. We have to just take a time out and waste him with the team's time out. Hey, coach, we're going for this. You don't want us to go for it. Come take the ball out of my hands. But hey! It's kind of the same thing will play some shack Baron Audio later on the show. It was very reminiscent to Game six of the world serious this year. Where Mookie Betts once they took Blake Stalin came Mookie Betts, and I can't believe that's happening. Shack Barrett the minute they took that field goal, he said. Boom. The game's over because your nose on the other sideline. The greatest quarterback ever. Tom Brady He's on that sideline, 205 left the lead and two first downs. I don't care that he threw three picks in the second half. He's gonna find a way to get the job done. Matt Leffler gonna be a long off season. Here. Zack with an update. See me? Yes. Fun Where sports flag..

"The baseball regular season has always mattered more than the regular seasons in other sports. Just it has Beyond that, though, this is a game. This is a sport that is already having a hard time. Getting teams. To try to win. This is not something that's exclusive to this offseason. It's been a problem for a while. Major problem in the sport has been teams but pleading poverty and basically sitting out free agency not making trades. It has become an accepted practice in this sport for teams to trade away players in their prime who are among the best of what they do. Last offseason, The Boston Red Sox traded Mookie Betts. If we were to have a conversation about who the best player in baseball is Mookie Betts. His name is going to come up. The Boston Red Sox traded him a team with every conceivable financial advantage, and they traded him. And even worse thing for me was folks just not along like, Well, yeah, gonna save the money there in Boston. Like what do you care about them? Saving money? Don't know what the Red Sox to win If you're a Red Sox fan The Tampa Bay Rays traded away their best picture, a team that just went to Game six of the world. Syriza and everybody just not along like, Well, you could get a lot for him like yeah, but you could also go to the World Series with a guy like Blake's now The Rays did that That is a thing in this sport right now. Teams trading away their best guys. For payroll flexibility. Even if it means the team they're building is not as good I don't think that's good for the sport. You see what happens in the MBA and in the NFL become a more transactional league. There's players moving teams. They're going for it, man. Not in in in the MBA in the NFL is well, you do have teams that realize you're not a position to go for it, so they'll build draft assets and acquire You know, draft picks, and it takes him a while, but you know, there's teams That we're in a positional in go for it, and they try to keep their stars. Baseball. It's it's almost a standard practice to move on from your stars. Check in this sport here. The Cincinnati Reds had the best pitcher, maybe in all of baseball last year. Would just all kind of shrug our shoulders and Trevor Bauer is not going to come back. Shouldn't be that way. What does this have to do with an expanded postseason? Typically the body and make the postseason under the current format, which is Five teams per league has been about 89 wins 90 wins, There's a clear incentive to win the division because you don't have to play in the wild card. And even with that, you have very few teams that are doing everything they can to win. If you expand the postseason that inevitably is going to mean that fewer victories are required to get to the postseason. Let's say we we leave it at eight. Right? We have eight teams pearly now a team that wins 83 games. Well, I get to the playoffs. If we just get there. We've got a shot. So now, if you're an owner of a baseball team Do you spend every dime you can to build a 100 win team. Or do you cut corners? Cut costs. Thinking, you know what? All we gotta do is get Tau 84 wins. We could be in the postseason and as long as we're there, Well, we got a job. My guess is the answer is going to be yes. And I could say that with confidence because I've watched this sport over the last couple of years were even without the expanded postseason teams have basically chosen to not do everything it can to win. The best thing If you're a fan is to watch your team when it's doing everything it can to win. Think of all the most recent Reds off season's over the last decade. What were the two that energized people the most First one would be the winner of 2011 to 2012. What did the Reds do that off season? They traded away. Four guys for Matt Plato's, by the way, a deal I would do again. They made a move for Sean Marshall. They traded for they acquired Ryan Maps and they signed Ryan Ludwig. They went for it. Remember that all season. Lot of excitement. Thea. Other one would be last offseason. I don't think the Reds built on 95 win team, but man they went for it wanted fun. In the fun. Hey, move stock is and the showgirl Wakayama guy, the Castano's and even flirting with the idea that they could maybe trade for Francisco Indoor. They acquired Wade Miley. It excites people when owners are trying to build the best team possible. The fewer winds that are needed to get to the postseason. Unless you have to do to build your team. Unless you have to do to build your team, the less you do due to build your team and create excitement. I don't need more owners striving for mediocrity. Fact, if anything with this sport can actually use is a reduction of the playoffs. Now I'm realistic enough to know that's not gonna happen, but it legitimately what we need is a reduction of the playoffs. You know what? We're not gonna have 10 teams we're gonna have Ah, four. Now, suddenly you've got to build a really, really, really, really good team to get it. Historically, there have been exceptions here. We know that in 1973, the 83 win. Mets beat the 99 win Reds. We only had four teams make the postseason. But by and large during that era we had 95 plus win teams. When the division almost every single year again, and 90. The Reds won 91 games but still You couldn't build a mediocre team hoping they would sneak in. You had to build the best possible team. It's never good for a sport when now you can incentivize not building the best possible team. And by the way from a player perspective building the best possible teams means spending money. So that to me is why the expansion of the playoffs is not even not a good idea. It's a terrible idea. Don't need more teams striving for mediocrity. Fact you don't need more teams that are mediocre, playing deep into the postseason. Baseball locked out this year. The L. A Dodgers. Still one that a great team they played the Tampa Bay Rays. Ah, great team fantastic team. So we still got two powerhouses and yes, on a local level, It would have been great. Had the Reds advanced. But the more you expand this, the more you subject yourself to the possibility, especially in a sport is random is baseball where it Z 86 win Blue Jays and they're taking on the 80 to win Colorado Rockies. Don't watch that. You.

"Why would you please back that up. While i vomit into my sweatshirt. Okay so the yankees. The last couple of years have been like up and down as they come. Yeah right like the highs have been really really high. The lows have been really really low for sure and then come the playoffs. It just doesn't seem to workout. You know this is a chance to prove that. Prove everybody wrong about the astros and everything you know about the last few years. He just couldn't do it. Just couldn't make it through the playoffs. The dodgers on the other hand have consistently been the best team in baseball. Yeah you know it remains to be seen in the playoffs. Sometimes and you know a lot who are going to hold the shortened season against them but every it wasn't even playing field so you shouldn't But they. I mean they've gone on some of the longest winning streaks that we've seen the last two three years that they are a steady hand you're almost guaranteed to win to some degree in l. a. And i think he's a guy who just wants to win wants to go out there do his job. He's not gonna doesn't have to carry a team offensively because he was. He and luke void were the only consistent like the only guys who were consistent at all on the news and if he's if he's a dodger he's not to do that he's got guys around him who can help carry the load. He's got guys on base all the time who can drive in if he's in one or two behind. Mookie betts i was going to do is hit on the gap home run. Yeah where which you know. A dj lemay homerun is not outside of the round possibility. Obviously not at all at a dj lemay. You double is soup. Excellent as well as super possible. You know so. I i feel like he's going to go to the dodgers is because he wants to win. I don't know if it's necessarily a money thing. I think that they're probably like i said it's working out some of the some of the final details but because he working on it for a little while. But i think that's what's gonna have. Well what i think position would he play second base. Yeah okay fine. I agree with you. Kike kiki hernandez is out. He's out yet he gone. He got home. Why you got so here. So i.
