They've moved off to the side onto the right shoulder, but police aren't with them yet. So bealer traveling north from Montgomery village and getting up toward middlebrook road that crash happened in the delay around Watkins mill and squeezing by to the left. 95 of the Baltimore Washington Parkway are good to go, but interlude beltway is quite slow from university boulevard, past New Hampshire avenue toward 95, squeezing by to the left past the works on and just north of Laurel and route one at whisky bottom road. The million paving operation is going on there, getting my single file each way, and it is quite slow in each direction. 50 out to the bay bridge, that is running without delay. In the district, the crash remains blocking the ramp from northbound three 95 to continue into the third street tunnel that ramp is blocked by the crash. On 66 westbound in Virginia, it is the works on after the rise of the tunnel quite slow to a point before glib road getting by a single file to the right. And I believe it has started to set up on the outer loop of the beltway moving into Virginia over the American legion bridge So be alert for that as well. 66, west of the beltway is good to go. Below their dino, the weather's taking its toll on another crash, now in Maryland, southbound two 70, Maine travel lanes are blocked I think everyone is being shoved over into the local lanes to get around crash activity through Gaithersburg after I three 70 again, following police direction, main travel lanes should be blocked, I believe, again, absent any decent reliable cameras through here, but I believe that everything is being sent into the local lanes on two 70 south on northbound or should not be effective at people coming from Montgomery village are going to approach this at speed don't do that anyway, but even more so back off that speed after exit 11 as you approach that overpass it carries I three 70 over the top of my two 70, the continuing crash clean up on 97 southbound through millerville, near new cut road over on the left shoulder. They are mainly to be seen in Virginia on the capitol beltway, the outer loop crash cleanup continues on the ramp to route 7 exit 47 had went slide off the ramp, this apparently a little more complicated than first imagined, and that ramp is still blocked. On the Virginia bellway, otherwise the beltway between McLean and Alexandria is issue free. "In the air for nearly 7 hours near Montgomery village. At a news conference last hour, Montgomery county fire chief Scott Goldstein had an update. We have two people that we would transport it to a local trauma center, both of those folks, the condition has improved. One is still in the hospital and that's all the information that I have on the two occupants that were in the plane. Maryland state police say they are still working with the national transportation safety board to figure out why it happened. Well, Sunday Night's plane crashes raised fresh concerns among residents who've been complaining about noise and safety concerns near the Montgomery county air park for a long time. Members of a Gaithersburg area citizens group say Sunday Night's plane crash highlights their concerns about safety, concerns they say on their Facebook page that are not given enough attention by county officials. Council president kapal burns was asked about that. This will obviously be an ongoing discussion. And there's nothing more important than the safety and security of all of our county residents. The air park is operated by the Montgomery county revenue authority and CEO Keith Miller says the airport manager reviews complaints about noise and safety. Practically all of them come in at the pilots are operating and doing what they are supposed to be doing. Members of the citizens for air park safety insist, there needs to be more oversight. A woman accused of shooting her former cop husband and in D.C. hotel room is cutting a deal with prosecutors. 50 year old santori weems is pleading guilty to aggravated assault and carrying a pistol without a license. A 16 year old student at Frederick Douglass high school in upper Marlboro is charged with bringing a gun to school just after 8 30 this morning a student alerted both the school resource officer and prince George's county public school security that the suspect was showing off the gun on a school bus that morning. The officer and security personnel found the student who had the gun in the backpack, it was unloaded but the student also had some ammo in the back. The student is charged as an adult with three weapons charges. In other news today, it is all about the holiday shopping as we continue into cyber Monday. Southbound 270, about halfway between the Monocacy River Bridge and Route 80 Urbanda near Mall Marker 29, crashed involving a couple of vehicles including one that rolled over. For the moment, Southbound 270 stopped near Mall Marker 29, so south of the Monocacy. If you're traveling northbound, it's right by the scenic view. So please be careful there as a result. For now, traffic stopped. Hopefully they'll be able to get a lane open here soon. Further south on 270, two work zones in your way at Route 80 Urbanda, the right lane and the off ramp to 80, blocked by the work zone. And then between Middlebrook Road and Montgomery Village Avenue, initially getting by the work zone single file, it's right. But I believe by the time you're passing Montgomery Village Avenue, you may have two right lanes getting past the work zone. The good news is volume is light enough that delays are brief. If you're traveling on the railway, again, work on the inner loop as you approach and pass Georgia Avenue, two right lanes get you by, and then as you head past I 95 toward Kenilworth Avenue, slowest stretch by far, single file to the right, past the paving project. It's 9 24 and rescue crews worked for hours to save two people on board a small plane that crashed into power lines in Montgomery village last night. WTO's Shana is stolen, breaks down how Cruz navigated a complex mission. It took teams from across the area working together, firefighters from Montgomery county, Washington, D.C., and were told possibly other locations. WTO's John Aaron at the scene last night describing the complicated challenge. It's a white plain that's sitting about a hundred feet suspended in those power lines right next to a large tower. Cruz first had to de energize the transmission tower, then secure the aircraft to that tower and finally get the two people on board the small crumpled plane out. Rescue officials say it went faster than expected, and by 1236 a.m., the pilot and passenger were safe and rushed to local trauma centers seriously injured, but alive. WTO news. Schools in Montgomery county are canceled today because of the power outages from that crash, all power now has been restored, however. New numbers are in this morning on the number of passengers screened by the TSA over the Thanksgiving holiday period. More than two and a half million people went through airport security checkpoints yesterday, that is the highest number of passengers in a single day since before the start of the pandemic. More than 2.2 million passengers were screened on Saturday, slightly down from pre-pandemic numbers in 2019. "Good morning. I'm Stephanie gaines Bryant, the top local stories we're following this hour. Montgomery county fire and rescue crews have rescued a pilot and a passenger who were trapped inside a small plane that was entangled in a utility tower in Montgomery village. The crash happened at around 5 30 Sunday near the intersection of rothbury drive and goshen road. Here's Montgomery county fire chief Scott Goldstein. Both patients have been transported from the scenes to local area trauma centers with serious injuries. Maryland state police have identified the pilot as 65 year old Patrick Merkel of Washington, D.C., and the passenger as 66 year old Jan Williams of Louisiana. They were rescued from the plane at around 1230 this morning. Crews are still working to remove the plane from the power lines. The incident caused widespread power outages throughout the county. Pepco says it's restored service to all customers, impacted by the crash this morning, but last night up to 120,000 people were without power. Meanwhile, Montgomery county public schools in offices are closed for today due to the outages, all Montgomery college campuses and locations are also closed for today. Last June, a woman was shot and killed in Annapolis on the weekend she was dropping her midshipman son off at the naval academy. Her accused killer's trial is scheduled for today. Angelo harrod of Annapolis is charged with first and second degree murder for the killing of Michelle Cummings of Houston, Texas. The trial was scheduled to last three weeks. She was in town for the induction ceremony of her son into the naval academy, she was sitting on a patio at the graduate hotel when police say stray bullet coming from harrod's gun hit her. She was not believed to be the target of the shooting and Herod also faces attempted murder charges for shooting at two other people coming sun, Trey is now a sophomore in place, offensive lineman on the midshipman football team. A slower growth rate in real estate is behind the possibility of higher taxes in Alexandria. Alexandria is facing a $17 million budget shortfall, and as a result, the city council will be considering raising taxes in the budget that will be worked out this coming year for 2024. According to Alexandria now, mere Justin Wilson hopes attacks increase won't happen, but the city manager has been asked to present the city council with two budget alternatives, one for a tax hike and one without. Jim Perez on tells that news outfit that city staff is expecting a shallow recession to impact the city this spring, mostly due to an increase in city operations. Sandy cosell, WTO news. There's a growing push around the country, including in our area to make marijuana fully legal, a new study backs that up. 59% of U.S. adults believe marijuana should be legal for both medical and recreational use for adults, while 30% say it needs to have a doctor's approval. Only 10% of American surveyed recently by the Pew Research Center think it should be illegal either way. There were differences too by political party affiliation. 45% of Republicans and Republican leaning voters are pro marijuana legalization, while 73% of Democrats and democratic leaning voters feel the same way. All right, for the moment of not a bad ride on the beltway in Maryland or Virginia, but be aware in some areas starting to see some very dense fog moving in in one of those areas that's being affected is up in northern Montgomery county parts of Montgomery village and Gaithersburg seeing some locally dense fog out there so please be careful, especially in the area where they have all the signal lines dark in and around the gathersburg area, again the closure remains on goshen road between snuffer school road and bramble bush drive traffic redirected each way as a result, you may find some other occasional stoppages with heavy police presence as well as a heavy fire and rescue presence as well. So just be extra careful if you have to drive in that area, definitely be wary, and also be wary of the dark intersections more than 100 signal lights are dark in that area. So again, you're coming upon a dark intersection extra Karen caution to avoid any mishaps. Two 70 north and south for now no issues with I 95 in the Baltimore Washington park with a true range are great. I still have the closure of the ramp from southbound Baltimore Washington Parkway to the inner loop of the bellway for emergency road repairs, ran from northbound to the antelope, not affected by that closure, Virginia, 95 and three 95 as of late without issue, 66, both east and west between haymarket and Rosalind running well on both directions, but again just be wary of some locally dense fog in some of the low lying areas. Over in Stafford county, it's a police investigation closing garrisonville road in both directions between Ripley road and Joshua road again. You're under police direction there as a result. "Good evening, I'm Sarah Jacobs with the top local stories we're following this hour beginning with breaking news in Montgomery county, a small plane has crashed into a power tower Pepco tower in the area of rothbury drive and goshen road in Montgomery village. The Montgomery county fire and rescue PIO said on Twitter, the plane is dangling a hundred feet in the air, and that the pilot ended up passenger our trapped. The incident has caused a very widespread power outage affecting Rockville, Silver Spring, Germantown, Aspen Hill, Gaithersburg, Pepco reports nearly 80,000 customers are without service, one of them is our colleague Nick an alley in the Wheaton area. Yeah, I was just hanging around my house. It was going to be a quiet calm Sunday evening, and all of a sudden the lights just went out immediately. I took my phone, turned on the flashlight, went over to the circuit breaker, flicked it on and off, nothing happened. So right then I knew that something was going on. I went out into the neighborhood and it had already been dark outside, and all the street lights were out. All of my neighbors houses were completely pitch black. It was difficult to see, so I got in my car, I started driving around noticing that major intersections around this area are out. The lights are out, no red or green lights, so for a Georgia avenue in our Cola, for example, in the Wheaton area, George is just zooming back and forth, all the traffic going back and forth, our Cola can't get past on Georgia. And that's just one anecdote, one small story from this, it's clear that thousands of people are without power because as I continue driving all around, I can see the street lights are out, the houses are out This is a big deal. Pepco estimates, it'll have power restored sometime tomorrow afternoon, 6 O 5. And now a special update from the WTO traffic center. And as you might expect, this massive power cut is going to be expecting traffic signals all over Montgomery county, especially localized going to see a lot of response near the air park shady grove road goshen road snot for school road. You're going to find a lot of response there. That's going to be affecting traffic at random points where they try to pinpoint things to get things straightened out, but certainly the signal lights darkening throughout Montgomery county is going to call for a lot of caution on driver's part new treating all of those

All right, wades are said Germantown we may have a trouble spot two 70 going south we'd been heavy in our band and down to one O 9 than a bigger slowdown as you leave one 21 just past middlebrook road well before you get down to Montgomery village avenue. We'd had word of a crash just unclear if it's along the left to right side. Expect a little heavy traffic again in Rockville, then slow at the lane divide, going down the spur headed onto the outer loop. Topside add a loop, you're on the brakes from 95 to Georgia avenue, getting slower south of town on the inner loop, the delay now after branch avenue heads past saint Barnabas road down toward the Wilson bridge. On two ten go in north, crash cleanup was up near Livingston square before old Ford north. It had been blocking the left side of the roadway. We're also slow as you ride the south on the bottom of Washington Parkway through the beltway interchange then getting slower after two O two riding into the district slowly onto D.C. two 95 to a point just before Pennsylvania avenue. It was utility work, water main break, 22nd street northwest, northbound closed between F and G streets, also F closed between 22nd, 23rd. It was police activity blocking southern avenue between 23rd and 25th streets in southeast. All right, the issue V dot now with it in Virginia 95 going north into Springfield as you head up toward the ramp to the inner loop of the beltway. That's where we have a broken down big rig in the far left side of the roadway. 66 headed east, we had some delays that were getting into manassas. There was a crash after the rest area over on the right shoulder. Now getting slow again as you approach and pass 50, 28 south and centerville after westfield's boulevard, that wreck had been along the far right side of the roadway. "And brute one 75. Man accused of threatening a group of soccer players at hunters Woods park in Montgomery village last weekend is now under arrest. Police say 26 year old Jonathan Boca of Gaithersburg waved a gun and made racial slurs toward the group. He's charged with reckless endangerment, crime motivated by race or religion, use of a firearm in a crime of violence and first degree assault. Students and families in the Montgomery county school system say they are treated unfairly when compared to their white peers. That's according to an audit that took responses from 126,000 members of the community. It found that Spanish speaking families report bias from staff and that families of color report incidents of bullying and racial harassment. Families also say that the school system fails to address their needs. It also found that while the school system makes an effort to achieve racial equity, some staff are not trained to teach different racial groups histories with nuance and cultural sensitivity. The report lists 23 recommendations to address the findings and calls for the school system to adopt a comprehensive system wide approach to anti racism, Acacia James WTO P news. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings For Parts Of Washington, DC Area
"Severe thunderstorms popping up in central Maryland. Let's go to storm Team four meteorologist Matt Ritter News era. It is an isolated thunderstorm, but it is a severe is produced some wind damage near the city of Frederick a short time ago. The latest severe thunderstorm warnings in effect has been extended southeastward from the city of Frederick, affecting northwestern Howard County, South Central Carroll County. In North Central Montgomery County and the rest of southeastern Frederick County stated until 6 15. Now there's AH, one area particular of concern very close to Newmarket and Green Valley. Parts of Maryland route 75 there where there might be inch diameter Hail falling right now on some of those locations, a cz Wella some 60 mile per hour wind gust, causing some tree damage in that area. But as for the city of Frederick itself, it looks like there's just some light showers and some lightning left over. Right now from the storm areas that are affected by the extended severe thunderstorm. Warning include Damascus in Clarksburg are Bana Woodfield. Layton's Ville Sunshine extends down to Montgomery Village basically kind of parallels Georgia Avenue route 97 up into parts of South Central Carroll County near the Sykesville area, just to the north north of a brook, Phil, and only again, this warning continues until 6 15 as the storm continues to move to the Southeast. And about 20 MPH. So if you're in those areas that I just mentioned to be ready, you'll probably be getting this severe thunderstorm in the next 15 to 20 minutes. There's some non severe thunderstorms. Heavy showers in parts of extreme northern Loudon County right now, not much else happening in the district for the time being or in the rest of Maryland. But we'll keep an eye on things as it continues to be a very warm and very humid day. Again.
