"Yeah, that the Voice of Oakland A's manager, Bob Melvin, being asked after the game if maybe he would reconsider. And he has not, by the way, named a starter for Game three shaman IA, I think is ideally, the guy you throw accepted the white side of eight. 50 or 8, 30 0 P s on the season against left handed starters. They have not lost the games. That question after the game actually came from our next guest Melissa locker to ask Bob Melvin if he'd reconsider. At this point, maybe who his starter for Game three would be if they get there could be Mike fires but had a chance to talk to Melissa last night. So we'll play this for you here this morning ahead of game too, for the Oakland A's and Melissa The Oakland A's fans. Six consecutive playoff games lost their like, cut us a break. You get to play at home, but you gotta play at noon. You draw the Chicago White Sox were one of the favorite teams. It seems like in the American League coming into this year, there were viewed as a dark horse team. Oakland A's fans have got to be bummed out. Oh, yeah. No, I think it's anything indicative of what I was saying on Twitter. It is an unhappy group of people right now, For sure. The White Sox are a good team. There's a tough matchup, and I think to have them is a A seven seat here in the postseason is maybe not what people thought they were competing for the central. They're tough against left handed pitchers. They're 15 or no now against left handed starters. They've gotta know PS over 800 against left handed pitching this year they were comfortable in Game one. Against Jesus Luzardo your thoughts on what you saw from Luzardo and whether or not maybe they should be going a different direction beyond game too. If they win game to Chris Bassett is lined up right now, when you said comfortable, I think that was the right words. You know, I think was are you actually had good stuff? He struck out five guys, You didn't walk anyone? His command was pretty good, especially I thought on his offspeed pitches is breaking ball. But he got beat on too fast balls that you know he intended to put elsewhere and put him right down the middle of the plate, and you just can't get away with that with this team, and you know, he's a rookie, and I think fastball command the thing That's keeping him from being a very good starter to a great starter and that'll come in time. I don't have any doubt that that's coming. But I think when you're looking at This matchup. It was sort of curious that they went with Luzardo against this team. I think against anyone else, you know, putting him out there. Game one went to really been a surprise, but given how well the White Sox hit against left handed pitching, and given how powerful they are, and that was our doe was prone to the occasional fastball over the middle of that, you know, you're hoping the guy just misses and these guys don't miss. It was a curious match up and, you know, it would have been kind of interesting to see how my fires would've fared in that matchup. He pitched so well against pretty much the same lineup last season, but they didn't go that direction. And, you know, I think we're probably leaning towards originally Shaman IA for Game three. If they get to a game three, My guess is that the direction changes now just seeing how comfortable they were against the czar. No, I think not having seen the White Sox this season. Maybe they looked at the left handed starters at the White Sox and seen during the year and thought. Well, okay, But these guys were not exactly Hey, sis Luzardo, which I think was a fair assessment. But now having seen it in person, I think that probably dictates if they get to the game three what they would do there. Yes, sure. I think it makes sense to say you look at who the left handed pitchers were that they face but Theeighties. Obviously they went and they added a left handed pitcher right at the deadline. They tried to bring guys in who were going to help them from the left side. And I end up in this matchup where you're facing all these tough, right handed bats, a team that had tons of home runs, but they're good against right handed pitching to get a 7 50 opiates from the right side story, give up a home run in Game one Tia's Monte Grande doll and looking at the Jesus Lizard to start though I know he was a rookie, and I know maybe they look at the pictures that the White Sox faced this season from the left side. But He wasn't a rookie in the sense that he's pitched in a playoff game before he pitched in Game one or in the wild card game last season. Yeah, I don't think it was like a moment that was too big for him or anything. He was very much looked in control of his emotions. I thought his pace was really good. He got to kind of seeing eye singles hit against him in the first inning, and there's a lot of pictures that maybe would have unraveled at that point, and he came in back and struck out James McCann, too, and that inning and You know, it really was just too bad pitches, but it's just one of those things where this lineup is not going to let you get away with anything and you know, and he had those those two pitches over the middle. So long term. I think he's probably going to make a lot of postseason starts and I think they're going to be a lot of good ones. And I think if the A's are able to come back and move on to the next round, I think he'll still be a very valuable Picture in that position for them, but also on the other side, Lucas Giolito looked like a guy who had pitched in the postseason a long time. Even though this was his postseason debut. You're not going to see a lot of wins if you don't score more than run run, anyway. Yeah, Lucas you later joints at Walsh in 1906 is the only pictures for the Light Sox to start a postseason game with seven plus innings pitch with two or fewer hits allowed in one or no walks..

"And then another time is, is obviously he he's slowing it just a horrible pitch inside. He's just too tentative. It's like he's guessing at the play and situation, of course, if you get on base, and then and yellowish gets on it principle. So it there's just a lot of little stuff today that just added up to a loss for me. And it says, really, really frustrating. I, I appreciate the phone call. I want to go back to the shifting for just a second, because there are days where the shifting just isn't going to work that for whatever reason it's not working that day. The teams keep beating the shift statistically, speaking, the brewers are among. The lead leaders in saving runs by using the shift it becomes really, really clear in really, really obvious at times that you get the shift beat. And it's really easy to take those single situations. And sometimes there, there's a few of them in a single game and be able to go see the shifts not working. It's, it's not working. It's not that's not complete and I understand the frustration. Like I taught if you're sitting there, watching a game and the other team keeps beating the shift the, the instinctual responses. Why are they doing that? Stop it. The reason they're doing that is because it works more often than it doesn't. And the brewers are as good if not better than anybody in baseball in saving runs by using the shift, you know, generally more often than not, they'll take the third baseman, and they'll put him over to the first base side of second. So you have the three infielders on that side and then Orlando arsia will be all alone between second and third because he's got the ability to cover so much ground. So having an Orlando arsia on the team to cover all that ground. That is also a big reason of why the brewers are able to be pretty successful with the shift even if they were not as successful today. Charlie is in Oshkosh. Hi, charlie. You're on WTMJ. Hi, matt. Thanks for taking my call. You bet. Couple of thoughts here quick without a doubt for me. That's the toughest lots of the year, you know, having to five on lead, and I agree with you. I love council. I think he does a great job, but he did not have a good day today. I mean I saw right away but Nelson, he's this is the most it's pitched in two years. And when he lost it, he lost it big time right away. And just, you know it was it was a gift basically to the giants today, and especially facing a guy like Bumgarner. I mean he's their eighth. And I thought, well, you know, Nelson gets Bumgarner free can pull this off this. It'd be a great win and one more quick, quick thought you know what things are and shock and play first base. You got those three I like things and Shaw, the best of those three, but they're both left handed. So there goes your platoon. So I'll take your thoughts. Thanks, matt. You appreciate the phone call you. They, they use. Yes, Monte GRANDE. Jal today at first base I'd like to see them do more of. That I'm most confidence, Eric same's. I think has done a really nice job in the brewers have done a fantastic job of putting things in positions to be successful using grandma at first base in days, like today, also maintain dolls catching a lot grandpa is catching a ton, I think playing granddaughter for space. A little bit more is twofold, you get better production at first base confess. Specially in comparison to, hey, sue saggy lar-, who would have been the guy to start today at first base had it not been granddaughter. That's the first thing..

"Yelich hits it in the air team right field. Racing back. His Conforto that all changes here yelich goes deep and the brewers lead at five zero one he is now tied for the most home runs before may first in major league history that is his fourteenth Dinger of the year in the fifth inning is the brewers. Take a five one lead to the bottom of the fifth with one out Pete Alonzo gets a basic here comes Robinson canal Woodruff's pitch ground ball to third could be to shot to second for one Arshi is the first time and the brewers turn the double play and eating is over. Second time Robinson knows involved in a double play. He had these strike them out. Throw him out earlier on brewers would add to their lead in the top of the sixth inning. Robert gazelle machine comes on to pitch I battery faces. Hey, Seuss Aguilar. He strikes out. But then Ben gambled. Doubles Lorenzo Cain lined up to the second hour of the day intentionally walked Christian yelich to get to Mike loose dacas. Basell brings home the pitch and Mushtaq is ground. Paul left side that's gonna get through into left field. Gambles around thirty is gonna try to score. No throw coming and move stock is drives in another. It's six to one brewers. Brandon Woodruff would be done after five innings. He gives up just one run on six hits junior. Garrett comes into pitch in the sixth inning throws a scoreless. Six brewers would get into a little bit of trouble though in the seventh inning. Alex Wilson comes onto pitch ipad or he faces. I'm Ed Rosario Rozario for two and hope for five the series. It's one torch right-center long run, Lorenzo Cain. Over as head. And this one is going to be gone all run for a metro sorrow and the Mets at around at sixty two next hitter. Travis d'arno pitch from Wilson ride in the left field line is headed for the corner. It's a fair ball off the wall gamble gets too quickly. Fires into second base. Here's at the tag is in time. They got Dr no not perfect draw from Ben Gammel. Yeah. They get them at second that ends up being a huge play, especially when you consider how the rest of this ending would go down. Dominic. Smith comes up as a pinch hitter. He would walk and that would end the day for Alex Wilson. Alex Claudio comes in would give up a base hit Jeff mcgeough or there's also a throwing error on the play next hitter. After that as pita Lonzo. Here's the pitch. Fly ball field. Gambled back. This ball is gone. He Alonzo homerun. Number nine and just like that. It's a one run game. Yes. Six five. So that's where Dr no being out at second really has a big role in this game in the way it was going so one run game. But the brewers would get some more insurance in the top of the eighth inning. Greece. Kamilia comes into pitch for the Mets per battery phases. Ben gamble. He walks Lorenzo Cain. Then gets Basit runners on at the corners for Christian yelich on yelich pitch chopper. "Peterson turns any watches Italy Monte GRANDE the pulling into the brewers dugout goes deep for the third time on this trip in the fourth time of the season. And the brewers Beck out in front of six to five. Got sports weekend continues here on WTMJ. My name is, ma'am. Paulie? Great to have you with us. If you want to join the program talk some brewers you can do so four one four seven nine nine one six twenty four one four seven nine nine one six twenty is the accurate mortgage, talk and text line. You can also tweet into the program if you would like at map Pauley on air MIT P A U L E Y on air brewers. Get the win yesterday over the dodgers. And a couple of things happened in that game that I think are notable first off when the brewers are winning games. They're getting good performances from the bullpen. The bullpen has been iffy. This year the bullpens been up and down it has been a roller coaster with the bullpen this year. But when they are winning games, and they've won more games than they've lost. When they're winning games that gun. Good performances from the bullpen. And last night was another game where I think we saw kind of a glimpse into. To what this bullpen can potentially be. And the guys who did what they did last night. Are the guys who I think are going to be a big part of this outside of you're still waiting for a Jeremy Jeffress to return, but Matt Albers Matt Albers is one of the MVP's of last night's game. As far as I'm concerned he comes in in the fifth inning in a tight game in a game. Those little crazy had been going back and forth. The teams traded four two run home runs or every single two run home run took that team's single digit deficit enjoy single digit lead. And it was so the game was a little little off the rails when it comes to that. And Matt Albers came in and he was able to get out of the fifth inning after Corbin burns. It struggled giving up the home run ball for the third straight game. Burns gives up three home runs. And then after that you saw Alex Claudio come in in ending scoreless. Junior. Garrett came in any scoreless things didn't. Quite go as planned after that, Josh Hader was only able to get four outs. He threw more than thirty pitches. In the eighth inning that pitch count was just a little bit too high. So they had to go to Alex Wilson and Wilson who has been mostly good. This year really has one negative outing that has made Ziara look worse than than it really is. If you're judging guide by number of affective, outings, he has been effective this year because it's really been one bad outing for him that has exploded his ERA Wilson was able to come in and finish things off. And that's the group right there. Those are the guys that if no acquisitions are made those guys plus Jeremy Jefferson when he finally gets back. Those are the guys that you need to be good are the bullpen Albers Claudio garra hater Wilson. No disrespect -ment to the other individuals in the bullpen. But that's the group right there. Those. Are the guys that are going to be given the opportunities when the brewers have leads and some of those guys have pitched better than others. This year Claudio has been really good Garris been really good Albers has been mostly good hater, obviously has been off the charts hasn't given up a run yet. And I thought it was important last night that you know, when when Josh hater comes into a game, especially in the eighth inning eighth inning or later. I think everybody kind of goes, okay? This one's done. If you're in the bullpen. All right. Let's see what Josh is going to do tonight. Let's just let's sit back and watch this. Let's throw our feet up on the on the fencing and see what's going to go down here. And it worked out that way. Because the pitch count went way way up if you noticed when he came back out for a second work after through thirty plus pitches in the eighth inning. His his velocity was way down. In fact, John and Plymouth texting in to the accurate mortgage, talk and text line. What was up with? Josh hater last night throwing ninety mph fastballs. He was ninety five ninety six and the eighth, and then he was ninety ninety one in the ninth to me. It was a I'm not a pitching coach. But to me the answer is he throw he would he was tired. He throwing so many pitches there in the eighth inning the thirty plus pitches took it out of them. And we talk about hater having a different kind of arm than other relief pitchers. And it's something that a a certain percentage of the fan base will just not. Except no matter how many times we say this on the radio on Twitter wherever there's a certain percentage of the fan base that just will not accept you have to treat jacket or differently than other relief pitchers. His arm is different. And we saw that last night. And when that that velocity took tick down they very quickly got Alex Wilson into the game. Very quickly got Wilson into the game after he was able to get that that fourth out, and I would guess that haters not available today thirty eight pitches yesterday. I don't see a scenario where we see Josh hater now. Hey if Josh hitter pitches in the game, you can give me a call. You can send me a text on brewers extra innings after the game. And you can tell me I was wrong, and I will accept it. But I don't think we see Josh Hader pitch in tonight's game. And some of those other guys would probably do and they've got to be the ones who can really go out and do their thing. There is a report out. There by the way. I always careful when I mentioned this. But the latest on Kimbrell is Craig kimbrel. His asking price is starting to go down that now he's looking at maybe a three year deal as opposed to a five year deal that he wanted before. And he's looking somewhere between forty and fifty million dollars over those three years at the lot different than six years. Five years north of one hundred twenty million dollars as that price continues to come down. I think it becomes more and more of a possibility that maybe the brewers get back involved with him. I'm not saying it's going to happen. I still think it's a long shot. But this the first time we've heard anything about his price tag starting to go down a bit four one four seven nine nine one six twenty four one four seven nine nine one six twenty is accurate.

"Robert Murray joins me today to talk about the Milwaukee Brewers a team that was one game away from the World Series, Robert rights for the athletic MLB. So if you're in the market for some baseball stuff, check him out. Welcome. To painting corners, your weekly gas or all things baseball. Now. Here are your host Austin Hartsfield, and Dave quit cow scheme. All right. So we do have Robert Moore with us. Robert we're going to go through the brewers system. And we're gonna talk about who we can expect on twenty nineteen opening day and throughout the season restart catcher Judas got out of a little meeting with him, actually, Yaas Monte GRANDE doll. Yes. Many dole is now the starting catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. How're you kind of feeling about that? And how it should go this year. Yeah. So for the brewers this was a guy that they went to the offseason, and they liked him a lot. And the only thing that really hurt their chances of signing him was his price tag. It was expected that he was getting signing a multi year deal where it's probably about fifteen or so million dollars per year. And they kept in contact with him and throughout the process. They. We're told by his mommy specifically, or like, he's specifically told them that Milwaukee was a place that he wanted to play and it was just about making a deal work. And in reality. They were able to make a deal done at one year eighteen point two five million dollars. And he's going to provide something that they have lacked for the last few. Jonathan Lukoil left, and that's an option behind the plate that can both one play. Really good defense and hit as well. And granola was also switch hitter you can hit for power and he's excited, and you mentioned this act multiple times today that he is going to be able to hit more home runs in walkie considering the right fuel is more homerun for friendly than Petco. Parker Dodger Stadium too. So credit cards.

"Is becoming a destination for some big league talent guys that maybe you would've thought would've guy coming leading the dodgers to cover here. That's a great. It seemed to me that he was maybe seeking a longer term deal more lucrative deal that didn't play out the market for. Yes. Monte Grondahl sort of shifted and it fit right into the brewers plans. And yes, they've got a lot of catchers right now. My belief is that they hang on demand opinion. They've got Grondahl. And there you go. A lot of people were looking at Grondahl last year and say boy he was not good in the playoffs. What happened there? Well, I think there is a person on a catcher when he played one hundred forty four games in the regular season. And then played fourteen more in the postseason. I don't think he's going to be asked to play that much in Milwaukee. Because then the brewers feel comfortable with Manny pedia. I always say I don't judge anybody on their worst day because I don't want to be judged on my worst day any of us judged on the worst day. It's not gonna look good. That was his worst day when he had that the multiple passed balls and everything that was his worst day in happened against the brewers. So this this narrative that we have right now on the ass. Monte granddaughter can only exist in the city of Milwaukee it can't happen anywhere else. Because that happened against the brewers and to your point on the one year deal, I think last year's market actually helped. Yes, Monte GRANDE doll signed the deal this year because last year there were a bunch of guys who turned down. The qualifying offers didn't get a contract and then end up signing for below that market value. Well, grand doll declines that qualifying offer. There's no market out there for a long term deal. The brewers were offering them just a little bit more than what the qualifying offer was. I think he jumps out because of that. If you're listening to us WTMJ six twenty we will have bucks basketball coming up at the bottom of the hour. We do what we say. We say we. Well. No, you don't you don't you said you were going to get real Muto. And then you settle for your third option and Wilson Rama's your brain Jerry's familiar back. I mean, you're signed jed Lowrie, which look these are nice sound baseball moves. I don't want to knock these moves and say well the terrible baseball moves Wilson romo's. Sadly is an upgrade. Jed Lowrie is an upgrade over what they had bringing me back. Okay. They could have done better in the bullpen. Yes. They could've. I mean. The Philly's got Robertson. And now they're talking about potentially Harper or Machado or bolt Cambril kaikal. And again, the Mets are sitting on their hands and not even rumored to be in these discussions Braves still trying to maybe get JT moved old. They're coming off a division win. What all the young talent that you know, that they have nationals making moves left, and right and they stole chance. Let's just say the Phillies don't get Harper. Let's say the Phillies get Machado kaikal Kimbrell. And Arthur goes back to the nationals. Where did I leave the Mets? Not to mention that you still competing with the Yankees in the same city. Maybe the Yankees don't go out there and get Machado this off season. But that doesn't mean that they don't have superstars left and right already on their ball club. "I it again. It's a here. Here's the tweet. I sent out last night. You can follow me at Jeff Wagner, six twenty. I I've been watching Marquette basketball game since the Almaguer days and the comeback against Creighton has to be one of the most amazing games. I have ever seen. I mean, it's just and again, it's one of these reasons why people are attracted to sports because you just never know. Most games are ordinary kind of go according to Hoyle, but every once in a while, you see that thing that you've just never seen that completely unpredictable thing. And it was just an absolutely amazing game. And so they end up with the wind, and you wanna talk about I mean, tough loss as well. Peanuts one where how how does how does the team? How does Creighton come back from something like that? But just an absolutely amazing game. All right. The other story from the world of sports that you have to mention is the brewers. There's no question about it. And I remember when when Marcotte nausea I bought the team, and I can remember my first couple conversations with him. And it was very very clear that this was a guy who a really smart businessman, but he didn't by the brewers just to like by the brewers. I mean just to have the glory of owning a team. He was he was in it to win. And you've seen this on multiple occasions when they've had a chance to win. They've had a chance to make the big deal to go and get into the playoffs or whatever they've been willing to spend the money and they've done things like that. So there's a very very good team. And it's very apparent to me that the brewers the organization thinks. That they're they've got what it takes to win a World Series in Milwaukee. Wouldn't that be something? And so yesterday they signed a one year deal with the former catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers shows Monte GRANDE del who are paying eighteen million dollars making the highest played player in the team. Just one year. Grondahl was he was the catcher that got benched during the playoff series between the dodgers and the brewers because he had a couple of passed balls and had are really really bad series. And he's actually had to two years in a row, he's really had bad bad playoff series. But he's one of the best hitting catchers in major league baseball. And that's that's all that was a problem. The brewers had last year the catcher is just as a general rule through one hundred sixty two games weren't hitting. They said that despite the past balls and stuff the guy's got an above average arm. And he's clearly I think an upgrade, and that's no disrespect to the catching staff that the brewers. Said before but that was one of their weak positions. And they spent eighteen point two five billion dollars signed a one year deal with the guy he apparently turned down like a four year sixty million dollar offer from the New York Mets couldn't end up doing better than that. So he's going to be a brewer freight eighteen point two five million. I think it's a good move. Despite the fact that he had some problems at the end of last year. But to me, what is so encouraging is it shows that again, this is a brewers organization that is in it to win it. And it's exciting. We're about thirty some days before pitchers catchers report support for spring training. All right. So good news from the world of sports on two fronts. When we come back wanna talk about one of the most controversial things that the old DOT was in love with will the new DOT be equally in love with them. Stick around. It's twelve eighteen Jeff Wagner, WTMJ, go.
