"Well, that's an interesting conundrum. Hello Greg from Monrovia Leo Laporte, the tech guy. I am a longtime listener to Mac brick weekly and to just show as well. Nice. And I have a MacBook with an M1 shift and I have a fast photo epson and I have about ten banker boxes. Ten. That's thousands of photos. So the fast photo is epson's fast photo, scanner, and it has a sheet feed that handles print. So it's actually a good way to scan it. So you're going to scan them all. Right. And what I'd like to be able to do is stand them all and then most of these are from my wife's families. For her to be able to then sit down with her iPad and ID them all. And I don't know what. Oh, that's cool. So they would go, oh, that's aunt Maude. And there's uncle Henry. He was such a scallywag like that. Yes. And she knows them back generations having sat down with people who are now past. She really knows who they all are. And so for me to scan them with my MacBook and then something that she could easily access on our iPad and then easily identify them. What software would be good to do that with, but also where these could be stored where they could be easily accessed accessible to her. And then when we get them in some sort of order so that the extended family could then see them all and do with them whatever they like, because we're going to be old folks. And so these needs to be able to get to the next generation. They're actually quite a few ways to do this these days. You want a way to store the photos, share them with family members and allow them to comment. Are the other family members sophisticated enough computer wise to be able to do that on a computer? Yeah. And so it's actually the next generation down from us. Oh, good. So they're all hippie. Yeah. So Google photos is a great start. Google photos has face recognition too, which means that once somebody identifies aunt maud, Google photos will go out and find all the pictures with ant mod, which is very helpful. They have shared libraries, so that's a good place to start. If you're an Amazon Prime member, they have a similar feature, Amazon photos. Then there's also sites like Shutterfly, which are photo printing sites, and the reason I like setting it up to Shutterfly. Besides the fact that it's free forever, is they'll make prints. So family members can say, I want that picture of ant mod. I'm going to hang that on the wall. And they don't have to come to you. They can literally order it from Shutterfly. So there's three good choices. I want to tell.

From Public Defender To Stanley Cup Champion
"So joe for those who might not follow the nhl super closely. Can you just give us a sense of what jon cooper has accomplished during his as a coach in the nhl. Definitely jon cooper is the longest tenured coach shell. He's on an eight th anniversary of his hiring on this week. The winningest coach in franchise history for the lightning. And i think he's highly regarded as one of the better coaches in the league and probably a candidate coach team. Canada at the next olympics are positions and olympics for the trump player so deadly highly regarded coach but up until this past season. He hasn't won the big one and that was kind of the big question surrounding it. And how would you describe his personality. Well he's a players go. She's a really fun personality. Like you quotes wedding crashers. Upper seventy six. No excuses public champion. You uses a champion. The only person you have to answer to when you go home at night is really yourself. The national media loves him because he is a great world this charismatic. You're going to get knocked down. There's no question people are going to push down. Because ultimately they want to see it fail if you think maybe teams on trips to like field of dreams when he was in earlier years coaching. He's all about the different sides and binding guys together on the ice and that if you get is connected as a group and the for each other and very process over outcome kind of guy and so you definitely has that charisma that makes them unique. I think the players like that. We'll show you recently. Wrote about how jon cooper has followed perhaps the most unconventional path of any stanley cup winning coach. So take us back to the late. Nineteen ninety s. What was john. Cooper's lifelike at that time he was living in a condo east lansing area couple remains but he was just trying to figure out where you wanted to be in his life. What he wanted to do for work. He was good ball. Charismatic lawyer but his heart wasn't in it always always wondering when is the fulfillment. When are you going to sit there and wake up every day and say. I can't wait to go do what i'm gonna do. He was defender district court in lansing michigan about a thousand dollars a month. You know we're going for indigent clients. He was working on. du is having divorces. You've got a two person law. Office him in a paralegal. He's still didn't know i guess. Were taken at that point. And you got in touch with the judge. Who worked with jon cooper back. Then what did he say about cooper skills in the courtroom and you just notice and how clients clients listen to prosecutors respected him i think is the kind of ability that transcends coaching the ability to persuade players to adopt your system or just believe the approach. So you know. He's he's a good salesman. He always says convincing players. Convincing a jury and i don't think he knew then that it would be kind of the key to him. Maybe starting coaching career. So how did jon cooper go from being this lowly paid lawyer and a former lacrosse player. Who had only played a year of club hockey in college to being high school hockey coach. Well the run in his son playful lansing catholic high school and they needed a coach and so he knew of john skills on the ice and new of his charisma and then he is asked to one day in the building. I saw the coach. would you be interested. He looks at me and goes. Dc the stack of resumes. I have he says. I'll tell you one thing you coach kids high school hockey team and i will take your resume from here. We put it here. Just this exactly. That was his first kind of foray into coaching hockey. Was nine thousand nine hundred nine hundred thousand lansing catholic cougars hockey team and that was seventeen. You actually talked to some of the players on that lansing catholic team. What did they tell you about jon. Cooper the high school coach. I think what's interesting knees. They remember the first meeting in the cafeteria where he's using himself to like twenty kids and parents and those us have just nervous as they were and are waiting to hear whereas the hockey background. Who did he coach before. Because one of the red wings was he part of this huge talk about law school in wall street and this guy another guys were in the nhl players. Even highly college players inducted himself would be anywhere high in coaching world. A reflection of guys play together. I think they'll be the first ones to tell you. None of them really on the track to make the national hockey league but they were such a joy to be around the competed their butts off just line. Who an awkward gesture. The of funny kid and team talked about like there was a hill just a mile from the school that the workouts outside the big hill. The he must've just saw he was driving around and he made us run up this hill with do bear calls and stuff. That is the source. I've ever been my life like. I could not long like off chris. Monrovia now works the red wings. Illitch family talked about how they had this practice where they had no on the ice and they're doing push ups and sit ups and kristin ross. Who served in the military students in afghanistan he goes. I went through the army for seven years. And i went through a lot of work out a lot of hellish days. Afghans dead. That's one of those days that i think back much. It's not as bad as back. And what else did you learn about his coaching philosophy back. Then you know like what were the things that were important to him that he really emphasized to the team. Making guys feel connected or part of it no matter if you were the best player on this team or like the thirteenth forward and i think jeff swan is appropriate examples. Like i wasn't the most natural coordinated like county out now who put me not aligned with the two players. Mike sack out with the most gifted athlete. That are high school in you. The team is better holding. Some of its part. They wanted them to play. Have have meaning and swan. Storing the biggest fools that season the most for player that year. So you know. He's told everyone the most improved player really halls like a special place for him. Something he takes lightly. It was a really really nice compliment. They talked about the hard hat that they gave out. After every win which was an all white instruction half that was something that the player of the game whether at block shot or a big hit or in ceremony the post game. We'll get this production. How they put their name and a sharpie but it was more of a. What did you do to help the team. Really recognizing layers who maybe didn't shop scores sheep but who are just dedicated themselves to helping the team. These success those are moments that came together that they remember forever and become an integral part of their story on a way to winning out like the championship. Well this sort of ragtag bunch of guys did win an unlikely state regional championship in almost mighty ducks kind of way and joe as you talks to all these guys who played for jon. Cooper what connections. Were you able to make between cooper the coach of the lansing catholic cougars and cooper the coach of the stanley. Cup champion tampa bay. Lightning guesswork me. Talking to guys. That new men who've now that he hasn't changed much in terms of his personality he had kind of style which coach's house you through professional level versus coaching. high school. Kids a lot of the same kind of tenants but he had then he still uses today. Kerry that floss with me all the way through the nhl in onto the honestly. It doesn't really change. Human beings are human beings and everybody needs to be motivated. It's just finding the right way to motivate. Rose stood up in my living room and watch the game and cheer tampa. You're welcome. you're welcome for started. His rise

These doctors got COVID-19, now they're suffering the serious, mysterious symptoms of 'long COVID'
"Hi It's Natasha. Mitchell with science friction. I'll be the first admit that as a GP price all of I was pretty skeptical of things. I certainly had sympathy for for conditions like FIBROMYALGIA. But I didn't have the empathy that I have now. I didn't understand it I. Really didn't get it. And Gosh if I could go back and speak to myself as a GP prior to all of this, I know that I would have been much better doctor then and I will hopefully be a much stop to now. As Corona virus cases explode again in the you kind across Europe today three doctors from the UK share confronting personal experiences of what's being called long covert. I have seen too many cases on nine of people not being heard not being Nessin to. That symptoms and their concerns not being validated. I've seen heartbreaking stories of people just being dismissed of seeing heartbreaking stories of people losing their jobs. And I am very lucky that I have a platform where I can speak up and try and get long covert recognizes melnace. The term long covert is being used to describe a whole cluster of symptoms and afflictions many extremely disturbing and disabling that lingering on some people after they've been infected with the SARS Cov to virus thousands across the world are now finding solidarity on social media and in virtual support groups that are popping up and long covert. To not discriminate healthy people young people, people who apparently had a mild case of covid nineteen. And every system in their bodies can be affected up until the last a week or two. The concept of long caved has been dismissed by quite a lot of people even in the medical sphere many my colleagues have been unwell since March and have really struggled to get any kind of medical inputs until the last couple of months those weren't hospitalized with the illness would just sort of left to get on with it. It's the classic thing a suspect. It might even be a bloke thing do not for long enough it will go away. Yeah. Diminish it ignore it hope it's not their. Own I another thing to worry about uh, suspect always going through people's minds and that will include medics politicians policies such as civil servants, everybody. But they will be left with the long term consequences and in terms of the total health burden that will weigh exceed whatever acute covid to us by the time of comes on. Aldi and Trader Joes?
"I I got interested in trader Joe's about ten years ago never been to one of their stores, but I had a general impression cheap and cheerful relatively laid back and sort of groovy for grocery store, apparently reflection of its surfie, California roots, also not aggressively health conscious but leaning in that direction. And then I read Wall Street Journal article about German grocery chain called Aldy that was ramping up its US expansion all the is a super cheap super generic grocery store. Ninety five percent of its products were house brands, and it was beating even WalMart on price. The article said the chain had two branches back in Germany separately owned by two wealthy brothers named Albrecht. And that one of those branches also owned trader Joe's I found. This back surprising only because when I think of German business practices. I don't think of a groovy earthy, crunchy, California surf vibe, but there. So it was I also learned that trader Joe's stores were much smaller in typical supermarkets that they had their own way of doing things and the places without trader Joe's often started petitions to bring one to their town. It was a sort of loony devotion usually reserved for sports teams or your favorite band kinda grocery store has a following like that. And then when I learned that trader Joe's out sells all other grocery stores per square foot. I really started paying attention then one opened up near my office here in New York started shopping there and the most part loving it. I realize it's not for everyone. In fact, predator strategy is trying not to be for everyone. But I did want to know the secrets to their success. We reached out to the trader Joe's headquarters in Monrovia, California. And we're politely told to get lost. As we mentioned earlier, the company is known for its secrecy. The two brothers who founded all north and all the south in Germany. You know, have a record of that Michael Roberto again that was kind of the family heritage of early being pretty secretive about their business operations. And really, they weren't even you couldn't even find photos of them like on the internet for years. I mean, they were very secretive. It's a strange combination affirm that prides itself on user-friendliness while also keeping its distance which means that a lot of what's known about. It comes from industry. Analysts and other secondary. Sources blitz start here in the very beginning. There really was a Joe behind trader Joe's, Joe Colom. He opened the first store in nineteen sixty seven in Pasadena, California. He went with a South Seas theme beach Hawaiian shirts calling employee's captains and crew members in nineteen seventy nine Colom sold the chain to one of the secretive Albrecht brothers feel feel Albrecht was recluse. Perhaps it was said because he had once been kidnapped and held for ransom. For seventeen days in Germany Albrecht died in two thousand ten but trader Joe's remains notoriously press shy. It's also a privately held company. So no earnings calls with investment analysts. No public proclamations of any sort really about how it does business. And so to figure out how it works will rely on a few people who've spent a lot of time thinking about trader Joe's, including the business school. Professor Michael Burto, we've already met correct? Also, the Columbia business school, professor Sheena anger, whose research specialty is particularly relevant here. I've been studying choice. Why do we want choice? What are the things that affect how in what we choose? And what are some things we can do to improve our choice making abilities? We'll also talk to a trader Joe's superfan. My name is Kirk to Serbia I reside in Seward Alaska Seward, by the way, does not have a trader Joe's, nor does the. State of Alaska the closest store from disarming. His house is two thousand two hundred ninety five miles away by car in Bellingham, Washington. Discern mea is the guy who we heard earlier say this the first thing, I do when I know I'm going somewheres get on internet and find where the closest trader Joe's is and will hear from a spy in the house of trader Joe's, a former advertising executive named Mark gardener who became obsessed with the chain.
