"Captain Monica Rochester cap to the poor Coast Guard Los Angeles Long Beach. this past week the unified command has visited with the families of the victims and I've seen firsthand the impact of the tragedy is taken upon them in our hearts and thoughts are continuing to be with them as they they go through this terrible terrible tragedy. yesterday the unified command which consists of the Santa Barbara sheriff's office of Santa Barbara City fire Santa Barbara county fire. national oceanic atmospheric administration National Park Service national marine sanctuary came together to review a salvage and recovery plan the motor vessel conception. this is an important step to this process but I would like to be clear that the coast guard's role. because courage role during this salvage and recovery operation is for the safety of those on scene during even not watching together listing as well here at the update and that not a lot more rather than some of the things you just heard there I mean that no big aha moment in terms of what caused everything and all these other questions is as to what the crew did or didn't do is they're looking at possible safety lapses Reno all that that's going to take time and always does preliminary investigation. Jay asked some serious safety deficiencies including lack of a Roman night watchman who is required to be awake and alert passengers so everybody was sleeping with we don't know thanks up again there are those crew members made off the boat and the questions will remain and that is the case usually is even when there's a definitive something at some point they're gonna be questions. either remaining or new questions a kamado whatever's determined so at any rate it's just a just a horrific story and so many friends that I just saw this a little bit ago to what I was going on of the Bahamas which took the brunt of hurricane Dorian and Dorian has now been up to getting the east coast of the US but not anywhere near where where was feared earlier this week in terms of intensity I thought what a rain and winds and everything else and and damage but the headline said in the Bahamas there are still quote hundreds unaccounted for. that it's so that's because the communication was down so forth then and it will be that way for some time on that particular island in the Bahamas but these things in any stories come in about a week from now this is the tough part you'll hear reports and relief efforts and all that I was watching one this morning that managed to slip by one of the networks the probably was really happy about it because it suggests maybe the trump administration's doing something good. it was the other day dead dead flown in this guy was going with some supplies just the personal private kind of thing that he was doing and one of the people on the ground there in the Bahamas said you know no one's helping us except the U. S.. well how about. that's what you're not supposed to suppose is happening you're supposed to think that the lease the administration is is cruel and cold hearted and under some other things that may be looking for a photo op to go throw some paper towels around like Porter Rico. last hurricane. so there's that and more coming up by the way that sandbag meetings going on today the San Diego association of governments meetings on it that I believe is seven a one B. street where the San Diego association of governments sandbag is is housed and that's where our house on a crowded the executive director really hope you don't know the meetings going on but it isn't public can attend is just getting under way in the last few minutes this is about the latest schemes to look at everything including congestion pricing just paying for the for the glory and comfort of being stuck in traffic getting out of your cars more high speed to choose so they think I think everything but flying unicorns changing the deal that was on that trans that tax to help you if you're stuck everyday on seventy eight that was seventy eight or sixty seven fifty two some other projects so that is happening today this is the meeting there was going to be on the thirteenth but they just quietly went to move it to the six then then several people including county supervisor Kristin Gaspar another said Hey this what what is this and so we started talking about this in recent days so that the meeting doesn't just slide by which is what certain people on the sandbag board wanted. more on all this coming up and the way this the pick pocketing news will pick pocketing done by the legislators in Sacramento one of the people not doing the pick pocketing Brian Jones will join us in a little bit here in moments on the M. seven sixty talking breaking news a Labor Day has come and gone now time to get your floors cleaned say good bye say but by the summer stains and grime and grease and dirt whatever the dogs did there over the course of the summer the kids or whatever time to call Stanley steamer a lot of companies out there that claim.

I it is a fifty K. L. A. morning update Williams with any federal thank you for joining us we got Glenn Beck coming up right after the top of the hour news which will be here at the well the top of the hour. nine and a half minutes from now Coast Guard investigating a deadly fire that killed more than two dozen people early Monday morning aboard a diving excursion boat that was anchored near an island off the southern California coast Jim Roop is in Los Angeles he tells us the victims were trapped below deck when the fire broke out early Monday morning in the Coast Guard is still looking for some of them. we have a total of twenty five that have been located not necessarily recovered we expect an update in about four hours or so for now for hours about forty five minutes we're going to get an update I would imagine the body count will go up they did work all night to try and recover more bodies they located especially eight this was as of last night they recovered four four remain at the bottom about sixty feet below the service on the ocean floor next to the wreckage which is upside down now resting on the on the ocean floor there about twenty yards off Santa Cruz island now the other seventeen were located it's unclear if they were actually recovered or not but at least it is known where they are that again is not official the public information officer says the corner has to make that official not necessarily identifying the remains but in and making it official that X. amount of bodies have been found and then they'll do the recovery it's it's a precarious kind of situation because the wreckage is unstable according to officials last night so they have to make sure that that is okay before they can go down a recover bodies that are down there and maybe search for the remaining remaining nine I should say. that are still missing the wreckage is unstable from the from the video that we've seen I'm surprised that there's anything left of the wreckage it was fully engulfed in flames with flames look like shooting ten to twenty feet in the air do they have any idea at this point any thought as to what may have started the whole problem. none now they have well they may they haven't told us because they did five crew members are able to get off five crew members about three thirty in the morning or so when all this was was going on they were already up on top deck preparing breakfast preparing for the final day of diving off the island there and when the fire broke out they were able to jump off and they were rescued so I'm sure law enforcement I have the officials have interviewed them about what may have started the fire where did it start what do they know they just haven't told us hopefully we'll get that information today at the news conference about safety inspections that were done on the boat from what we understand everything was up to date and any problems had been corrected yeah this is what the Coast Guard said look this operations been around since nineteen seventy four truth Aquatics is the name conception this boat has been failing since eighty one and every year passes inspection as the and as captain Monica Rochester said yesterday the Coast Guard it's in compliance in past its most recent expansion in two thousand eighteen so everything looks good and even the sheriff bill brown said look it had to have a fire fighting measures on it maybe if fire extinguishers on and so forth it had to have all the safety measures in place or would not have passed those inspections. Jim thank you very much is just a there's Jim Roop in Los Angeles I mentioned earlier that he's in on those type of excursions right there in the same place just off the off the channel island was at that particular tore you don't remember who was not the same company no this was sometime ago but we have that we had a boat with about twenty people on board divert the dive trip and we slip below decks we're there for couple nights there's a scary situation doesn't we have first of all I'm claustrophobic so going down home his dad ladder into the down of the way but I don't. okay and then climb into a little bitty you know I mean this is weird so if you can imagine being down there below the water level in a bunk and then smoke starts coming in and it's the middle of the night yeah no one can see an entrance and you just trap powers gonna horrible it's just terrifying. all right coming up on eight fifty five we have worst we're down to two minutes here and we're still tussling over what our favorite story is there were arguing over one out or we can do both we haven't had any of the no real obvious favors. I thank day fifty five will start off by taking a look at traffic.

"Captain Monica Rochester says crew members were luckier crew was actually already awaken on the bridge and they jumped off the captain says it didn't take long for flames to engulf the boat part apartment crews were fighting the fire when the vessel sank twenty yards off shore in sixty four feet of water five people were evacuated aboard a good Samaritan pleasure craft known as the great escape one of those crew members was treated for minor injuries captain Rochester on the call for help the only made a call we received was the best was engulfed in flames that's all we received a Coast Guard cutter boats and helicopters continuing the search and rescue mission CBS news special report I'm Deborah Rodriguez okay CBS news time nine thirty two good morning I'm Matt Bigler infer stand bunker and dying carried a second for Susan Lee Taylor well more delays for the Boeing seven thirty seven nacs jet the Wall Street journal reports American and United Airlines have pushed the return date for the use of the jet until at least December this comes after regulators with the US Europe Brazil and elsewhere complained Boeing failed to provide technical details and answer specific questions about modifications in the operation of Max flight control computers for more we're joined live on the KCBS ring central news line by anti pastor reporter with the Wall Street journal anti thanks so much for joining us this morning so good morning good morning yeah what's been the biggest challenge with getting these jets back in service there's been a whole bunch of problems some of them take not almost all of the technical some of them in terms of communication with various regulators buying is actually tried three times since late last year to submit the proposed fix them for various reasons they haven't turned out to be the final six and now they're still one more under way but I think the important point for your listeners to remember is that it's a question of how the regulators in the U. S. and elsewhere look at Boeing's transparency and their willingness to share information I mean each of these delays on a technical level has it's own explanation and and you can argue about it one way or the other but I don't think there's any question that in the U. S. and elsewhere in Europe and Canada Brazil and China there's a real strong feeling that Boeing simply hasn't been willing to provide enough information in a timely manner for those regulators to feel comfortable with putting the planes back in the air as of now so really this delay is about transparency the regulators around the world want to know everything from Boeing and they say they're just not getting enough is that correct well that's right there was a meeting scheduled for mid mid August where many of these regulators were supposed to get a briefing from Boeing on the decision to change the way that the flight control computers work on previous models only one flight control computer out of two was operating on each flight Boeing decided for redundancy in additional safety in a lot of other technical reasons to have both white control computers working on every flight and this meeting was supposed to explain the reasons for that and the details of that and the regulators basically called off the meeting and said we're not this is a waste of time essential you're not giving us what we need the meeting has to be rescheduled at the FAA has to that the information then call a meeting for all these regulators and the important point here is that the flight test that was supposed to take place in October and now we are almost likely been delayed until November which means that the plane many of the planes in the U. S. probably won't be flying by the Christmas holidays and in Europe probably not until January. yeah our our did or the airlines American United really going to take a hit because of these potential impacts I mean a lot of people travel during the next couple months. they already have they are delayed a bunch of slides they've had to reschedule their their their flights for many of those and so American and United and southwest are really frustrated and and and hurting in terms of having enough planes to to do what they need to do and of course airlines overseas are and are in the same position but of course they want to make sure that Boeing gets everything right before it goes into the skies again that is anti pastor report with the Wall Street.
