Mister Biden's proposal would raise the Medicare surtax on high incomes from 3.8% to 5%. With that extra funding, the president says Medicare could cap out of pocket costs for certain generic drugs at $2 a month. "Doctors say the best way to lose weight ten to 15 pounds is by modifying your diet and exercising. Medicaid recipients may have to look elsewhere for healthcare coverage soon. Millions of people who rely on Medicaid could get booted from the program over the next year, about 84 million people are covered right now, but a state begin checking everyone's eligibility for Medicaid for the first time in three years, as many as 14 million people could lose access. Those who no longer qualify will have to turn to ObamaCare for coverage. Options can cost less than ten bucks a month, but out of pocket expenses and co pays are often higher. Medicaid cuts are expected to begin later this year. Monica ricks, CBS News, discussions are underway in fairfax county on a proposed budget. Leaders are looking for ways to provide relief for residents and offset higher costs. Fairfax county executive Brian Hale laid out a proposed $5 billion budget for the board of supervisors last week. By the time we get to Sunday Night Monday, things begin to calm down, but at that point all of the rivers are likely to start to have their flood problems. So even though the storm will begin to pull away Sunday Night into Monday, the swarm threat does not actually end because the flooding will likely continue to get worse for some hours. This morning, more than 200,000 people on the island don't have power. Remnants of a typhoon are also causing outages and severe flooding in Alaska. That storm has moved some homes right off their foundations. And another typhoon is slamming Japan, journalist James symes, is in Tokyo. It's going to be coming over much of Japan and it's going to take it seems to be moving fairly slowly. And so it's probably going to take about three days to actually get completely outside of Japan. "Monica rix in New York, the heat continues out west today as firefighters battle more than a dozen dangerous and deadly wildfires. CBS Carter Evans reports. With no let up in the heat, wildfires are causing death and destruction across the state with four dead. And thousands of structures threatened, officials confirmed that two people who died near Hemet Monday were attempting to escape the flames. Record temperatures mean record demand for electricity as well, but the state is now dangerously close to losing it. CBS is Steve futterman explains. With the heat millions are using their air conditioners, that's for the strain on the state's power supply. And yesterday, power officials were pleading with people to cut back on usage between the hours of 4 p.m. N 9 p.m.. Anything you can do run the dishwasher charger EV, do a load of wash. If you can do that outside of that window, California was able to avoid blackouts yesterday, but today will be another test. We are learning some of the documents seized by the FBI last month at Mar-a-Lago, had details involving a foreign government's nuclear capabilities. National security and nuclear experts told CBS News if the intelligence was compromised, it has the potential to damage collection methods to even burn sources. Her husband was due to return to Washington to sign the climate healthcare and tax bill that backers named the inflation reduction act. It required an examination as well as a prescription before one had a hearing aid and this significantly increased costs in lord access. "Tennessee CBS News special report I'm Monica rix Double DTP a 1242 Well with text a just a few weeks away you might be wondering this morning if you owe any taxes on your cryptocurrency investments This morning consumer contributing editor at checkbook dot org explains the rules for us So if you bought sold or mine digital currency last year those transactions might be subject to federal taxation The IRS considers cryptocurrency to be property that is tax like other investments such as stocks and bonds If you sold exchanged or used any virtual currency last year cashing it in on exchange or using it to buy goods and services and the value of that crypto was higher than when you acquired it it likely made a taxable capital gain So if you bought $50 worth of Bitcoin and it was a hundred bucks when you sold it you'll pay taxes on the $50 increase What if you own some virtual currency but you didn't sell any of it If you owned it but didn't sell any of it last year even if your portfolio increase in value by a good amount you won't owe any taxes for the investment gains of the IRS You don't realize again as far as they're concerned until you cash it out Now if you did sell herb and you made a profit how are those gains taxed If you own the digital currency for more than a year before selling it or using it to buy something that should qualify your profit as a long-term capital gain which is usually tax at a lower rate than regular income If you sold cryptocurrency at a loss you may be able to use some of those capital losses to offset capital gains on other sales similar to losses on stocks or bonds If you have investments you get a tax form from your broker or financial services company But as you point out in your checkbook story you may not get that paperwork from the online exchange that handled your cryptocurrency transactions So where do you turn for that Well a lack of a form does not mean you're off the hook for taxes You'll have to do the calculations on your own Some exchanges will send you the intro you need to create the document for the IRS Others will allow your tax software to import that information There are also dedicated crypto tax software programs which will help you square up with the IRS By the way crypto brokers will be required to send ten 99 as the earnings form starting in 2023 The IRS added a question to the first page of this year's ten 40 tax form about crypto that appears to be confusing some people tell us about that It seems simple enough but nothing simple with taxes right The IRS is asking quote at any time during 2021 did you receive cell exchange or otherwise dispose of any virtual currency Everyone is required to answer this question not just those who had any transactions involving cryptocurrency Answer yes and you may be flagging a return for some extra scrutiny And IRS news release issued a few weeks ago tried to explain to taxpayers what they expect If you merely own virtual currency at any time in 2021 they say you can check the box no it's only if you're engaged.
