She was last month's pay tribute to a teacher. If you know a remarkable Arizona teacher that would you would like to pay tribute to with a 25 $100 check. You could nominate a teacher right now. All you gotta do is text the word teacher to 411 92 3. That's how you nominated teacher For what? You just text the word teacher to 411 92 3 to nominate a teacher. The pay tribute to a teacher program presented by your valley Toyota dealers, Um So President Biden is going to hit the road. He is going to jump on Air Force one. He's heading to Milwaukee. I believe Tomo push his his stimulus program, the $1.9 trillion stimulus program. The big sticking point. For many people, myself included is the $15 an hour minimum wage the arbitrary increase in wages. We talked about it a lot. I've talked to it until I talked about it till I'm blue in the face. The idea that mice I'm not a business owner anymore. But I wa so the idea that a business owner doesn't want to pay their people. More money is a fallacy. That's not true. Ah, business owner can't pay their people. Maura than market value, especially if you have hourly employees and you want a business like I did that charges an hourly wage for what they do, because you can't afford to. When you are building in a construction world where I came from, and I can only speak from that point of view. When you bid a specific job. You bid that job based on labor and materials. You can count on a piano blueprint. If you're fairly accurate with a counter, you can get really close to how much material you're going to need for that job. Put it out for bid, the lowest price supply house When it comes to lighting fixtures and electrical equipment. We call the gear that they get that bid. When you're buying your conduit, your wire and everything else you're gonna need to acquire that facility or that building. You can get a pretty good cost on what material is going to cost you as long as you haven't shorted it or you don't have people wasting it. But your labor cost fluctuates depending on the quality of work. Your people do how quickly they get a job done. If you're paying people by the hour and you figure these things by the hour if you're paying people Maura than the market bears, you're never going to make any money or you're never going to get jobs because you're bidding two high. The market dictates what a job is worth. We all know that. If we arbitrarily raised the minimum wage to $15 an hour what happens to the $15 our workers right now? Do you think they're going to get $18 an hour $19 an hour That's not going to happen. They're going to be the bottom rung of the ladder now. The $8 an hour people, The $9 our people, the $10 an hour people, They're going to get a wage increase. It's not going to improve their lives because the cost of living will increase. What you've done is you're squeezing the middle again. That's what's happening with this people that are against this. It's not trying to keep poor people poor. That is such a lame argument. It is a lame argument. And when you have this Argument about why they people push against it. It's because it's bad for the economy. The Congressional Budget Office has predicted that this is going to cost 1.5 well. 1.4 million jobs. It is going to cost those entry level workers their jobs. How many people out there are earning minimum wage and trying to support their family earning minimum wage. There are not many of those people out there. Entry level jobs, generally speaking are high school and college kids, people that are entering the work force. It's a way to learn responsibility. It is low skills as far as you know, necessity have the skill set to take the job. In retail in another places. You're gonna watch the cost of fast food. Go extensively up and you're gonna watch jobs. Get cut. They're gonna automate were already automated. And you're going to see so much more of that. And so these jobs will go away. Major corporations can take the hit the Walmarts, the Amazons. They they will be able to take the hit. No doubt it's going to cut into their profits. Their prices of they're good. They're gonna go up some, but they will be able to hit Take that hit. The ones that can't are the private own small businesses. Everybody out there keeps saying on both sides of the political aisle. We do the same thing every election cycle. I am pro first responder. They all wanted on their signs. I'm endorsed by law enforcement of endorsed by the firefighters, and I am pro small business. Everybody wants to help the middle class. Everybody claims to be the champion for the middle class. And then you have something like this that even the CBO says is going to damage the middle class. And they still push for it. It's his politically correct argument. And what ends up happening is someone I've got. I will get the messages on social media. It doesn't matter what my track record of what I paid any of my employees was. It doesn't matter where I came from. Because I came from a minimum wage world. When I was a kid at 18 years old, I was earning minimum wage. Until I got a job in the trades and they paid me more. I never paid an employee of my company less than $10 an hour and I don't even remember what the minimum wage was back there and that was over 10 years ago. And it's because the market then was dictating that you were paying people a lot of money. Because it was a seller's market if you want To truly increase the quality of someone's life. You give them opportunity at a better career. You do that by creating more jobs. You.

Mike Broom head show on K T A R news, 92 3 FM and the K T A R news after Thanks so much for being here, it's the Mike Groom had show been talking about opening schools for months Now, the CDC data is saying that we should be back in schools months ago, we were using The benchmarks. The benchmarks were almost all in the green, and it was ready to open schools here across the valley. Some valley schools did that some district stay open and they've opened very successfully. They've had some issues where they've had cases of covert 19. But largely the spread of covert 19 is not happening on campus is we know that University of Arizona is now doing this? They're going to phase two. They will have more students on campus. We know that issue has been very successful in keeping students on campus and keep keeping class is open to a certain extent. And being able to move forward during covert 19 as well. Montessori schools and preschools have been open and never shut down and it had to adjust on the fly. The one place there has been pushed back. Our where the teachers organizations, teachers unions, so to speak in Arizona and across the country have said no, we're not going back in the classroom is a matter of fact. They have done sick outs, their admission, not mine. I've got the videos to prove what they're saying behind the scenes, calling them a sick out calling in sick in mass so that schools have no choice but to close, including online learning for those days, so in the interest of keeping things from being chaotic, what they've done is they've just gone to online learning instead of fighting the unions, and that's what's happened. CDC has been emphatic about this on D director of the CDC said schools could open safely even before all teachers are vaccinated. And that outraged the teachers unions and see she doubled down on that saying the safest place for kids is in school. We know that we've seen, um The data on suicide attempts on overdoses rising in both adults and in kids, and you've seen pediatric organizations and mental health organizations say the detrimental effects on the separation of Children from the classroom. Is far worse than having them anywhere near the schools that they should be back in the classroom, the president himself said, And I want you to hear the president. Well, I'll get to it in a moment. This is him, saying he wants schools open in the 1st 100 days. Will also do everything we can to give our educators and students safe. Safely reopen the majority of our K through eight schools. By the end of the 1st 100 days. So that's what he said then. Well, they have now over the last three days, and I believe it's my belief. It's been pressure from the N E, A and from the A, F T that it doesn't go along with their narrative of not until it's safe. So now here's the clarification to that promise. You just heard his wool that, he said, is to have the majority of school so more than 50%.

Reads so tell us tell us more about the primus of tax service well attack surfaces the third novel in the little brother sequence at the first two little brother and homeland were young. Adult books about a character. Marcus yellow starts off. His very young teen who is caught in what amounts to a police state when his hometown of san francisco is bombed by terrorists and the department of homeland security swoop in and effectively suspend the constitution and all civil liberties and he and his mates form guerrilla army. Using things like hacked. Xboxes that use cryptographic secured wireless networking to outmaneuver the joss and eventually expelled them from the city and and restore human rights and civil liberties to the population and the third book attack. Surface is a standalone novel for adults and one of the first two are about people who are terrified. By the possibility of technology being used for oppression and excited about the possibility of technology being used for liberation. This third books protagonist is the young woman. Masha maximo who appears in the first two books as a kind of antagonised in the first book we meet her as a vhs contractor. Helping to spy on marcus and his friends even though she's of the same age and from the same background as them in the second book. She's a way bandit working to spy on jihadis and disrupt insurgent networks in iraq for the us government an enormous markup and when we meet her in the third book. she's just gone full cyber mercenary and her job is helping a thinly-veiled version of a company like the ns. Oh group to spy on pro democracy movements on behalf of post-soviet dictator so they can figure out who to round up and torture and murder and she has a reckoning with her conscience. She on the one hand has been spending her whole career finding ways to justify what she does Sneaking secrets out to marcus and his friends so they could blow the whistle wrongdoing or helping marcus escape from the da chest in the first book but by the third book she's really had to Devolve into some pretty self destructive conduct like helping the people that she spies on Defeat the tools that she herself as installing. And that's obviously not sustainable. And eventually she gets fired and worse has to run away from this post soviet republic and finds herself back in san francisco where she discovers to her horror that her childhood best friend who's now on a successor movement to black lives matter is being targeted by the very same cyber weapons that she herself spent her whole life building and while the first two books inspired a really large cohort of technologists and civil rights lawyers and writers and activists and security researchers and cryptographer offers who wanted to use their technical and legal powers for good and to stave off technological apocalypse. And dystopia this. Their book is aimed more at the people who rationalize their way. One decision a time in tech and other industries into participating in a vast confiscation of human liberty and human thriving in service to large corporations and oppressive governments and to talk about what it means to pull back from the brink. When you recognize one day that that you can no longer justify what you've been doing of course corey. That is exactly the situation. We find ourselves in absolutely i mean in two thousand eighteen. We saw twenty thousand google's walk off the job tech won't build it and tech solidarity and no tech for ice and other movements within the giant tech companies are not only organizing around technological issues but also around labor and environmental issues and and you see technologists now reaching outside of their bubble so for example at amazon the movement for justice there within the company spans warehouse workers who are laboring under absolutely ghastly and what should be unlawful conditions and tech workers. Whose initial concern was surveillance and climate. But who discovered that they could not make progress nor could they feel good about their movement unless incorporated the labor concerns of these people at the bottom of the ladder at the company.
