So when they hear that shirley bag open the prize sweet demise. they're yummy. Gummy goodness will always find a way to your tummy to get some sweet and sour. To accompany a podcast. Fix go to. Charlie dot com back to the story after years of failed investigations. Harry price is convinced that seventeen year old warri knows more about jeff than she's letting on and he's not alone in early. Nineteen thirty. six price gets a letter. From publicist named nora nichols who gone to the isle of man to do some research of her own she chats with the locals and finds out that a lot of people really believe in jeff in fact some of them are so scared of the mongoose that they won't even go near dornoch cash but of course there are also those that don't believe in jeff at all. They suspect that very made up the whole story. Out of boredom. Growing up on that farmstead. All alone makes sense that she would invent jeff has an imaginary friend or a practical joke and some of his classmates even say the seen her throw her voice like a ventriloquist. There's another rumor that back in the early days after jeff's arrival three avoids classmates swallowed their fears and made the trek up to doorless in. These stood outside the first floor window hoping to catch a glimpse of the talking mongoose. Instead they saw borey and margaret making noises with ten bucks. It seemed suspicious even as if they were practising for some kind of performance and worry and margaret looked at the window and saw the girls watching. Their demeanor is completely changed almost as if they were hiding something. Price keeps hawking around a bit and in nineteen thirty eight. He meets with this businessman. Named charles morrison who's been friends with irving's for years charles swears that he's heard jeff talk on two separate occasions and his son. Arthur says he stayed over house a few years ago. And he didn't just hear jeff's voice he actually saw the mongoose beady eyes under his bed. Charles and arthur both insists that margaret and board could not be responsible for making these noises when it happened. They've been too far away or out of the house entirely so we're back to square one. Unfortunately investigating further becomes impossible. Because around this same time jeff finally decides to move on from the irving's his visits had been sporadic for years and by nineteen thirty eight. He finally just leaves one day and never returns in the end. Price was never able to decide whether jeff was real or not as easy as it is to believe. That jeff is a hoax. There are just so many witnesses who swear otherwise. And even if margaret or very were responsible for jeff's noises there's so much else that just doesn't add up like the objects jeff apparently through cross the room or the details. He learned from his trips around town. Sure voi- could have been breaking into people's houses on her own memorizing the details of their decor and then feeding her father made up stories about jeff supposed adventures. But why what possible motive would teenage girl have for any of this. There is one possible theory that catches on around town. There's no real for it. But this is what some of the locals believe. After years of living on the isolated farmstead both margaret and borey wanted out the longed for the hustle and bustle of a city and a life at didn't revolve around farm work. But james wasn't on the same page. He'd set his roots down here and he was either unwilling or financially unable to leave so margaret and borey invented jeff to scare james until leaving fori who allegedly had a gift for ventriloquist through her voice to make it. Sound like talking. Animal was living in the walls. She secretly followed people around the island eavesdropping on their conversations sneaking into their homes. Of course it didn't work. James grew to love the talking mongoose and margaret and boy were stuck trying to keep up the act for years. You think that if this is even remotely true james would have realized at some point but maybe subconsciously he did. I mean. remember how. He didn't seem to want margaret or to talk to price. And there's one fact that really makes this theory seem plausible around the same time jeff disappeared. James became seriously ill now. It could just be a coincidence. Or he could have been distracted enough by his illness that margaret and roaring no longer felt. They needed to keep up the ruse. But what's interesting is even after. James dies in nineteen forty five margaret in. Warri never confessed that they may jeff up in fact for the rest of her life margaret continues to insist that jeff is the real thing boy on the other hand rarely speaks about the incident at all after being tormented by jeff and her neighbors for her entire adolescence. She just wants to put the whole thing behind her and live a normal life. It isn't until nineteen seventy that she finally tells her story publicly and it hasn't changed at all in three decades in an interview with fate magazine. She says quote yes. There was a little animal who talked and it all those other things. He said he was a mongoose and he said we should call him. Jeff but i do wish.

"Can handle period weeks and bladder leaks. That's right you handle it all and now. You're bad ken to find one by choice in the film. I'll in nineteen sixteen. James and margaret irving moved into this charming hundred thirty year old farmstead on the isle of man. The farmstead is cold doorless cassian. And it's not super luxurious. But the views are gorgeous. It sits on top of a hill high above sea level surrounded by seventy acres of land. The irving's are sheep farmers and they quickly settle into a routine wake up bright and early tend to the animals eat dinner go to bed and get a good night of rest two years after they move in they have a baby girl named worry for the next thirteen years. Life on the farm is relatively normal and quiet until september of nineteen thirty one one night. The irving's hear some strange sounds coming from behind the wall and i. It's nothing too alarming. Some wrapping the pitter-patter of little feat roaming about if you high pitched hisses and snarls they figured just a mouse or something. No big deal. But it's inside the wall that separates the two bedrooms and after a few sleepless nights. The noise gets old. James sets out a rat trap and tries to catch the animal. But it never takes the bait. The noises just keep going on and on and on night after night. At one point. James gets so irritated. He grabs his gun and loads a single round if he sees this rodent. He's ready to go but the creature never shows its face that is until the following month when the irving's finally see they're furry little house guest for the very first time it looks kind of like a fear it or a weasel is about nine inches long yellow with black specks on its bushy tail but it's thin and it moves fast so it scurries back into the wall space before james can trap it. Another month goes by and the creature still won't leave the irving's alone every night in the middle of the night the tapping in hissing continues by november james. At his wit's end he put some rat poisoning on a piece of bread and leaves it on top of the staircase hoping the road and will eat it. die in. That would be the end of it later that night. The irving's hear the piercing screens of an animal in pain and screaming goes on for a good twenty minutes. It's just so awful to listen to but eventually it stops and irving's assume it must be dead. Boy leaves her bedroom to check but when she gets to the top of the stairs there's no animal insight and the bread is left untouched. Which means this animal must have known. The bread was poisoned. And he must have been screaming in mock pain. Just to mess with irving's so whatever this thing is it's super intelligent and it apparently has a sense of humor for mayor things only weirder by december instead of the regular hissing. Sounds of a rodent on the prowl. The irving start to hear a human like voice coming from behind the wall. According to james the voice is really high like two octaves above normal human voice and it's a bit model like kind of like a baby learning to speak. But it's definitely saying word in english mimicking the words and phrases irving say around the house which is unbelievable. I know the irving's immediately assumed whatever this thing is. It must be supernatural in like i said earlier. The isle of man has a long held belief in the supernatural. So this is definitely weird with irving's are willing to accept it plus beautiful as doorless cash is. It's a bit isolated during the cold brutal winters. The irving's rarely have guests and life on the farm can be a little miserable strange as it is. This is pretty much the most exciting thing that's happened to irving's in months if not years so instead of running away from this talking weasel james speaks back not only that over the next few months he starts to teach it new words and new phrases which the animal just repeats back to him like a parrot then he teaches some nursery rhymes and songs until eventually the creature gets a handle on the english language and starts to have full on conversations with the irving's at some point the creature tells them he's a mongoose and he wishes to be called. Jeff this of course has got to be a lot to process. Mongooses aren't even native to the isle of man so that raises more questions than answers by this point. The irving's are so used to having jeff around they just kind of roll with it. He seems harmless like talking house. Pet but soon enough would started out as fun. Turns downright creepy. Within a few months of his arrival. Jeff becomes obsessed with a thirteen year. Old war he. He basically becomes her shadow. He follows her around the house all over the form he even trails her to school. And this'll be fine. It jeff stayed home and collected for a kid. Having talking animal by your side is actually kind of cool. You know but there are times when jets. Behavior seems kind of threatening some nights. He watches james and margaret. While they're in bed trying to sleep other times in the middle of the night. He'll get his hands on a spoon from the kitchen into start. Clanking it which imagine waking up to that. It's gotta be horrifying especially for warri who's only thirteen and is basically being stalked by this creature. Eventually james and margaret or worried enough that they decide to move where his bed into their own room that way they can keep jeff away from her if anything really sinister happens but while they're in the process of moving jeff loses it. He starts pounding on the bedroom door and through the walls. They hear him scream. I'll follow her. Wherever you move her now. I know what you're thinking. It is time for the urban to pack up and leave for good. at least. That's what i would've done but moving isn't an option. The family sunk all their money into this house and without the farm they have no source of income so even if they wanted to leave they couldn't and since jeff is so quick and nimble the chances of capturing him are slim so there's really nothing the irving's can do so this harassment continues for months. Jeff continues to follow worry. All around town. He starts to watch margaret while she undress is if the irving's do anything to make jeff mad he gets violent and throws stones at them. Whatever this creature really is whether he's mortal or supernatural. He's real enough to be a serious threat to the irving's and he's not going anywhere. One night jeff tells the irving's quote i am a ghost in the form of a weasel and i shall haunt you coming up. The irving's make peace with their unwanted visitor. Jeff the talking mongoose has upended their lives with his piercing screams and threats of violence. Naturally all of this is hard to keep to themselves. Jane's is particularly chatty and the gossip about the talking mongoose quickly travels all over the isle of man and the towns. People don't just have to take james's word for it. Several locals cross paths with the mongoose themselves. One day a teenager named wilk hub in sees a small yellow haired animal roaming around in front of his house which might not sound like a big deal but there are a ton of weasels on the isle of man. And as far as anyone knows. There's only one mongoose. So chances are this was jeff. Then there's a post office worker named john. More who goes to door wish cash in on the job since this is a small and welcoming town the irving's invite him inside and they're all in the kitchen more starts to hear these intense thumping noises behind the wall and then he here's jeff speak or more specifically he. Here's jeff screen hot. The bloody gramophone on now more is totally shocked by this. He hears these words loud and clear and he knows that none of the irving's could have been the one to say because they were right there in his sight line. Needless to say these incidents or all the townspeople can talk about and soon the stories. Cross the irish sea and reach england where they're picked up by the feigned paranormal expert. Harry price as the founder of the national laboratory of psychical research price spends most of his time travelling the country investigating supernatural events and while he adamantly believes in the supernatural world. He also knows that plenty of paranormal occurrences are actually hoaxes. Naturally prices intrigued by the stories. About jeff the talking mongoose. But he's a really busy guy and this seems to bazaar to believe so instead of going to the isle of man himself. He sends one of his employees captain. Harold dennis on the evening of february twenty six one thousand nine hundred thirty two. Dennis arrives at door doorless cash. The irving's are welcoming hosts. Margaret is super hospitable. Thirteen year old is well mannered. And jane's gives dennis a full play by play of all the weird things jeff has done and the story has taken some interesting turns by this point. Jeff has calmed down a lot. It seems like the rocky period has passed and jeff in the irving's have learned to get along like quasi roommates who are just trying to make the best of a bad situation. Jeff even starts hunting rabbits for the family to cook and in return the irving's offer jeff some of their own food and now that they're on friendly terms again. Jeff has revealed more about who he really is as jeff tells it. He was born india in eighteen fifty to a few decades ago. He made the trek to egypt. Stowed away on a boat and eventually landed on the isle of man. The story isn't entirely impossible. Because cargo ships are notorious for bringing pesky little creatures onto the island but if the time line is to be believed it means jet is eighty years old which way longer than the average life span for a mongoose but despite that little detail james no longer believes that jeff is a ghost or even necessarily supernatural in fat he thinks jeff is just a regular mongoose who somehow lived for eighty years and learned to talk which i mean if a parent can learn to talk. Why not a mongoose. you know. I think that's his thinking and to prove that jeff is a living breathing creature. James shows then is all the holes and crevices in the house where jeff likes to hide if he really were a supernatural being. He probably wouldn't need a physical place to take shelter in james's so sincere about all of this that dennis really wants to believe him. There's no reason for the irving's to lie. They're just normal people living on a quiet farm. They're not trying to make any money off of this but after spending a few hours in the house. Nothing supernatural takes place. Dennis doesn't see jeff or hear him say anything or even move about the house so just before midnight. Dennis packs his belongings and heads for the door. A little disappointed but as soon as he and james walk outside dennis. Here's a high pitched voice inside the house ask. Who is that man. Yeah jeff finally speaks. Dennis hurries back inside. But then jeff is already gone after waiting a good fifteen minutes or so in the sitting room. Nothing else happens. So dennis is thinking if jeff is the real deal. It's pretty clear he doesn't wanna be bothered on the other hand this plant a seed in denis's mind that jeff could be a hoax margaret and borey were still inside the house when jeff supposedly spoke they could have been the ones faking his voice. So dennis comes back early the next morning determined to get to the bottom of this but once again jeff won't make an appearance. Dennis sits around all day hearing and seeing nothing until around five thirty evening. Dennis james in warri are enjoying a cup of tea. When suddenly a needle goes flying through the air and hits the teapot no one actually sees jeff throw it but they do see the needle fly out from somewhere behind the wood. Paneling james warrior sitting right there and margaret is out and about in town. So there's no one else in the house who could have thrown it. It had to be jeff. Dennis decides to stay a bit longer but a few more hours pass and nothing. Remarkable happens when margaret gets home and learns that jeff is still mia. She's super annoyed after tormenting the family for so long. She thinks it's about time for justice. Show his face to someone who actually wants to listen to him. So margaret and warri trudge upstairs toward. Jeff usually likes to hike and try and talk some sense into him. Meanwhile dennis's downstairs straining to listen to the conversation and here's jeff arguing back dennis clearly. Here's jeff say that he doesn't want to talk to an unbeliever. Dennis figures this is only chance he bolts up the stairs hoping to catch jeff in the act would on his way up. he trips and falls. The noise scares jeff away and any hope. Dennis had of meeting him is gone. Dennis is forced to return to england with nothing but a few perplexing stories but these experiences have left such a mark on him that three years later in may of nineteen thirty five he returns to the isle of man. This time he meets james in town the to share a meal take a stroll along the beach at some point. Dennis picks a daisy and attach it to jacket and then they slowly make their way to doorless cassian when they get there margaret as waiting for them according to her jeff had been following them around town. He got back before they did. And he told margaret about everything the two men had done and said she knows what james had for lunch and she knows that dennis had picked a flower along the way creepy. I know but dennis realizes this probably means jeff is still in the house somewhere. He spends the next few hours in the sitting room with james and margaret. Waiting for something interesting to happen. In the meantime worry goes outside to do some chores and with all. Three irving's accounted for dennis. Finally here's the mongoose. Speak from behind the wall. Jeff says something that sounds like plus fours oxford bags which is totally random. I know but at this point doesn't matter what jeff said. Dennis is just amazed to have heard him speak at all. And this time he knows for certain. It couldn't have been either james margaret or gory. When dennis gets back to england he tells harry price jeff might actually be the real deal but he may have spoken too soon. Not long after. Dennis gets home. The irving's mail him a piece of jeff's for as proof of his existence. denison price. Send it off to pathologist at the london zoo. Who compares it to for other animals and concludes. There's no way it came from among us. In fact he thinks the for with probably taken from a long haired dog at this point price finally decides to visit the isle of man himself and get to the bottom of this but of going alone. He invites along his good friend. Richard lambert lambert his historian writer and radio broadcaster. Pretty intelligent and respected guy who could easily spot a fraud that july. The two men make the trip to the isle of man and just as usual. Jeff refuses to show his face. According to james by this point jeff is venturing out of the house on his own more often. He likes to ride around the island by clean onto the back. Axles of cars and buses his appearances at doorless cash or becoming few and far between. Sometimes they don't see or hear from him for weeks at a time price and lambert spent a few days with the irving's but jeff never shows up and the two investigators just can't wrap their heads around. What's going on like if this is all a hoax. There is no apparent motive. The irving's don't seem like the type who live for famer money and if anything jeff had made their lives even harder a lot of the locals are weirded out by irving's borys classmates are particularly cruel and they often tease her about living in the spook house as a result the seventeen year old doesn't have many friends apart from her parents and mona. They're long haired sheepdog. In fact price notices that borey seems to have a strong connection with mona. they're pretty much inseparable and apparently one of their favorite things to do together is to go rabbit hunting. Something that jeff. The talking mongoose also has a knack for you can probably guess what prices thinking. Somehow worry is behind all of this but even if she wanted to admit to it it's almost impossible for her to get a word. It james is taking over all the conversations. It's obvious to price that for some reason. James doesn't want the others to speak so he and lambert hatch a plan to get worry alone at first they invite her to join them on a tour of the island but james invites himself along to thinking. Bigger price invites warrior on a solo trip to london with a female companion accompanying her the whole time. Of course but once again james gets in the way and refuses to let her go in the end the men leave the isle of man with no more evidence than they arrived with. Price is ready to write the case off as unsolvable and yet he can't shake the feeling that there's one person who can unlock the truth. It all comes down to borey coming up. Price sends an undercover agent. This episode is brought to you by hp whenever you do your best thinking. They hear him scream..

Why Can a Mongoose Take on a Cobra?

"Now available on the iheartradio APP. Or wherever you listen to podcasts. It will come to brainstorm a production of iheartradio. Hey brain stuff lauren. Vogel bomb here. There aren't very many animals out there that could could fight a King Cobra and eat it for dinner but a mongoose is one of them before we go any further. Let's talk about Mongoose. In general have you ever seen among us. There are twenty nine species of them and not all of them. Look the same but they are all long bodied short eared. SORTA weasley looking animals. They they aren't very closely related to weasels. Though if you're an animal in the order Carnivora which is the order of mammals are mostly carnivorous and have teeth adapted for flesh-eating you can either be on team dog or team cat. Weasels are related to dogs. And however much mongooses look like weasels they. We are firmly on team cat fact. A mere cat is a type of Mongoose and cat is right there in its name. Mungo says live in colonies and most species. He's live in Africa. Although one species the job and Mongoose has been introduced to Europe and is also wreaked havoc and ecosystems all of the world especially on islands like Hawaii. Puerto Rico and Jamaica although mongooses are small. They're bright feisty and what scientists call non-discriminatory predators. That is if they can catch or kill it. They'll eat it up to and including venomous snakes and an animal like that can do a lot of damage on an island. But how can it be. That Skinny Mongoose can take on one of the most venomous snakes in the world. Like the Hulking King Cobra whose venom can kill an adult human. And around thirty minutes the grudge match was popularized in Rudyard kipling's eighteen ninety four short story Rikki Tiki Tavee. But that's not the only time among us has contributed to popular popular culture a Hindu fable about among us in a snake dates back to at least three hundred. B C E in the nineteen thirties. A family on the Isle of Man claimed claimed talking Mongoose named Jeff Spelled. GEF by the way lived in their walls by turns threatening them protecting them. Killing rabbits for their dinner and telling jokes in the story became a tabloid sensation and the paranormal investigation. That resulted is the subject of a recent book called Jeff The strange tale of an extra special talking Mongoose News in the real world a few specialized traits have allowed Mongooses to add venomous snakes to their list of entrees for starters mongooses uses are quick and agile and have strong jaws and thick

Bat Soup, Anyone? How Viruses Transfer From Animals To Humans - Yahoo News

"Let's get back to the interview. Fresh air's Dave Davies recorded yesterday with science writer. David common about the new Corona Rona virus epidemic which broke out in Wuhan China. Kwame ince's the corona virus is just the latest example of how were increasingly contracting dangerous. Viral infections since from animals in his book spillover published in Twenty twelve kwame attractive viruses spilled over from animals to infect humans with HIV West S. Nile fever anthrax. Bola and another from the corona virus family SARS severe acute respiratory syndrome which also emerged in China China. You know you're right. That as scientists tried to track down the source of the SARS virus back in two thousand three and four. They focused on this practice in southern China of eating and in some cases raising wild animals. Not kind of things that you typically think of as food or or where we don't want to just explain this trend and how it figured you're into this yes There is a vogue. There has been a vogue for eating wildlife wild animals when I was in Southern China researching searching the book only briefly. I got to see some of these markets. Where all form of wild animal were on sale A lot of the trade by the time I got there had gone underground because it was suppressed after the SARS outbreak but then it gradually came back and it had been allowed to continue in you again and proliferate win this new virus began but if you go into a live market and you see cages containing bats stacked upon cages containing porcupines stacked upon cages containing palm civics stacked upon cages containing chickens and hygiene is not great and and the animals are defecating on one. Another it's just a natural mixing bowl situation for viruses. It's very very dangerous situation and and one of the things that it allows. Dave is something that we haven't mentioned. I think so far and that is the occurrence of of amplifying hosts hosts that are not the reservoir host the permanent hiding ground of a new virus but represent intermediates between the reservoir of our host and the human population for instance those horses in Australia. From the point of view of a horse they were ultimate hosts and they were being killed by this virus but from the human point of view they were amplifier hosts the virus got into them it multiplied abundantly it caused them to froth and Chauque and bleed through their nostrils veterinarians and trainers. Were trying to take care of them. They amplified the virus. So that One trainer in one stable form and got very sick from that virus in the case of this new corona virus. One of the questions is was there. An amplifier host in that wet market where these cages are stacked are called wet markets white wire called wet markets. Well assume they're called wet markets because the animals are alive alive rather than butchered and in dead and refrigerated They're also wet. Because there's there's water flowing everywhere. They usually have seafood as well as as wild mammals and birds As I said hygiene isn't great. Animals are being butchered on plywood. Boards blood is flowing down into the gutters in the water and there is just a great Liquidity Mix in these markets at at their worst now when scientists were trying to track down the origin of the SARS virus Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome which was associated with the virus in in the early two thousands. They eventually focused focused on something called the civic cat What is that? That's right the civic cat is not really a cat. It's more accurately called the palm palm civic the civic type of mammal that belongs to the to the family of Mongooses But it's a it's a medium sized animal and and it is both captured from the wild for food and captive bred and raised for food And it was the first big eggs suspect of In the SARS outbreak It was found that some of the people who got sick very early on had eaten a butchered civic and so in the civic head though the the antibody for this this virus right and they and they tested him civics and they found they found evidence of the virus. They found antibodies. Antibodies or fragments of DNA A. R. N. A.. In these civics suggesting that they had been infected with the virus and That didn't prove they were the reservoir host but it made them the number one suspect until a couple of Chinese scientists did further work and they established that in fact virus was not living permanently in the civic population in the wild or in captivity. It was it had a different reservoir host it was living in bats and it had passed presumably market somewhere it had passed from a bat into one or more sits and they became the amplifier host. Right and the the Chinese government I think decreed that all sits in captivity would be slaughtered. Right that's right. Thousands of sits in captivity were butchered an an electric electrocuted and and smothered and drowned In this I panicked blind reaction in China to the SARS outbreak. Now when you were looking at you actually went to China with and spent some time in the field with people who were investigating this right. Tell us tell us about that experience. I I went. I went with a fellow named Alexi. Kamara was working as a researcher for a group. That's called ECO health alliance based in New York A group of disease scientists who study see these emerging viruses these emerging pathogens in animals around the world. They generally have cross training in Virology Veterinary Medicine Ecology combinations nations of skills so Alexi was one of them Alexi and a number of Chinese colleagues and I flew to a city called Gua Lynn In the province of Guangdong southern China and we went out climbing into into caves that caves in the karst mountains the limestone stone mountains and hills outside of the city of Gwynn Looking to trap Various different kinds of small bats insectivores bats not giant fruit bats Small bats at lived in these caves including Horseshoe bats which is a particular group of bats so that Alexi and his colleagues could draw draw blood samples and test those for Looking for the SAR SARS virus that point or or any other virus that suspect unit. Just describe a little bit of what what it felt like to be trapping bats and these caves well. It was a little bit claustrophobic. It's not for everybody. Had Castle Castro. We climbed through. We climbed on our bellies through a very low hole to get into one of these caves. We had we had to squirm down and then and up through this whole to get into the cave and then the cave opened out and Alexi and his Chinese colleagues had essentially pillowcases and butterfly nets. And that's how we caught these bats. The Bat started flying around and they would catch them in butterfly nets and they were wearing gloves and and they would untangle a bat from a butterfly net and then Drop it into one of these cloth bags that were like pillowcases. And in this case as I recall they they would tire tied the knot often then handed to me and I would go over and and hanging on sort of a clothesline. So that the bad dangle and we were doing this I don't know if we were in there for a couple of hours oddly enough. We were not wearing masks of any sort we were not wearing with the called. Personal Protective Equipment has met suits or anything and and described this in the book. I asked Alexi. Why the hell

"But I mean there were we see, I mean, there were lions elephants giraffes would obese water buffaloes were not on site that they, they lost some. So, like they killed by the line. So to keep them some way, they took him to another reserve to repopulate to bring back. I have a specific amount of animals. They have a balance between predators and non predators. Yeah. So they with all the different things they've got a real balance. And I mean, I seen warthog that was pretty cool warthog, and maybe like five little baby warthogs. I don't know what they're called. But that was pretty neat to forget, what we saw two when we went to go see the white lion. So the white lines are on a different reserve. And I'm I'm with I'm with Nicole violent. Yes. All right. And with coach and in dab coach and the kids and, and Lindsey, and, and we see the Black Mamba snake, the most venomous snake in the world. Scoots underneath our Jeep stops right behind our Jeep, and then goes off into the woods. And this is right by the golf course you know this isn't like in the reserve. And they're like, yeah, that's a black mom. Like just casually. Like oh, yeah. That's dear. You know, it's a Black Mamba. No problem. They pulled up. And we pulled out to another Jeep when we were stopping to see some on monkeys mongooses, Mongoose manga, like what's plural of Manos. I don't know mom geese. We saw a bunch of them. Sorry, I was just I didn't know I didn't know I didn't know what I'm not sure. And then they just really casual like, hey, there's a Black Mamba back there. If you guys want to go scoop it up like he goes, okay, no problem. It just goes driving off. Like, again, like is if we're talking not about a Black Mamba snake. So the players know exactly what we're talking. And they look at me and they just they were so protective the whole trip. I mean, they're unbelievable kids. I mean, their mothers raise them. Right. And so did this team this? Oh, did you guys? But they were so cute. And they just looked at me to go. Now listen, you better be very careful. You got a cut off immediately. Whatever they, they bite. You, you have to cut off, whatever it is your hand, your whatever it is. Because it's going to go straight to your heart and it's gonna kill you. You're gonna have to amputate whatever comes up you get bit. I was like, I learned something new from the day that protect me from ostriches snakes. Claire. Alignment, clarify. It is. Mongoose. Mongooses. Monkeys? Okay. Great. Ellen back out. I'm glad you got an glad you had his microphone or for. Why lines were cool. That was like we're white white just like Kimba the white lion. I was one of my favorite shows cartoon growing up. Some of the fifty plus year olds will remember Kimba, the white lion. I don't remember great cartoon. Watch that when repetition everywhere. That was that was mandatory watching for you and John around then. It was in Ann Arbor. House probably nine maybe nineteen Seventy-three I think it was on channel fifty or channel twenty back in back in the cable TV days that was huge for you guys. Love, love Kim the way line. Stephen, you golfed actually golfed on there. I mean, whether any zebras on the golf course while you were playing. No, there was no, no animals on the laundering across the Gulf, as we drove past him one night to dinner. I saw there was like a dozen zebras talking about zebra footprints in the green that made it hard. Guess?.

"What are those clues that he's making these very easy for someone to say, hey, they're being designers right liquid? You said ownership, but what is using to validate those claims specifically back into dozen fourteen immediately. After monk ox went down Brooks company went to carbonless negotiated to try to by monks. That is undisputed certainly true. They signed a letter of intent which is what you're sign at the beginning of newish Asian to outline. That he goes on what you want this to lead towards at the conclusion of those negotiations you signed the actual formal agreement that sets this final terms of that position. And then you're done in this case, what happened was that they signed a letter tongues. And then Mark basically got told off by the Gordons. No, you can't do that. You're under civil religion. You can't enter into any deal Mongoose on the court being aware of it and approving so Mark went back the day after two days after went back to bronze know, this wasn't cool. We had to have to restart the process could you please sign this confirmation that we have mutually rescinded this letter of intent resigned the other day, so we can make a clean slate.

"And ninety two point one FM. And welcome back to coast to coast. Here we go with more open lines. Let us go to Russian Louisiana east of the Rockies. Hey Ross welcome to the program. Hey, george. Thank you so much for taking my call. Thank you. How are things. Yeah. I wanna talk about well earlier, you had talked about doing Gibbons, your your friend. I'm a longtime listener and one of my favorite open lines calls ever was a guy named Ricky from Houston called in and said he was gonna pull Billy Gibbons feared really it really got your goat. It was one of my favorite coast to coast moments with you ever. It was so great. Yeah. I do. Oh, yeah. He talked about how he worked on the boardwalk dances. He was really good at it. Great. But the reason I'm calling. I just got my book in tonight from Tim are swertz the jets the talking Mongoose book. Okay. He was on your show out just a couple of weeks ago. Right. Yup. You sure was. Yeah. So I want to ask you a question on a scale of one to ten if you can rate crypt is in aliens. You put Bigfoot probably about a nine or ten right in terms of popularity everybody knowing about it, just the general public. Not the coast to coast audience, not not us. Just. Probably high about a nine or tie on the list high on the list grey aliens, right? Probably a ten high on the list now where would you put Jeff the talking Magas way down at the bottom? I don't think a lot of people knew about Jeff the Mongoose at more. So now, but still way down there at the bottom more. Now, I put maybe even dog man probably about a three or four. And that's when Ricky called in. I have a very good memory Richelle probably dog nearby be three or four. But yeah, Jeff talk humongous. Not even maybe a one or maybe a one on the list. Yeah. Foot weird. The weird synchronicity of it all like is. I just started show because I'm very, you know, influenced by you and art I have a show called unbelievers podcast, which for you. Get an episode about Jeff the talking Mongoose just also some research book, I found when re release the episode two hours later. Is when you interviewed him in chronicity. People people started blowing me up saying, hey, coast to coast is doing Jeff the mangas. I'm like, no, no, no. What are you talking about? We know. This is our now. How could this happen? But I gotta say since nineteen thirty one. I don't think Jeff has gotten this much attention at all it's been almost nearly eighty years. And now, Jeff the talking Mongoose is a thing. Now in the book is I got to say, I'm very happy with the bulletin good. It's a good book. It's a bizarre topic. But it's a good book. So what is your opinion overall? Do you think he's is it a poltergeist cryptic, the what was really happening there? I mean, they had legitimate people come in research it and say, they believe what I just wanna know what you think they did say that they believe that the Mongoose was talking and could reason and understand, and I so I think it was possessed much my take mine mine too. And I don't believe that that they're saying that the young girl was that good of a toilet quiz. Look. I was kind of a nerd. When I was young vocalism. I don't think you can be that good ever in trick. Everybody now to trick a race car driver. And and anyone from England coming investigate from New York. It was, but I want to say I was trying to say thank you very much doing that topic. It was it's a complete left field. And that's where you need to be. It's perfect. You've had some great calls tonight, but bringing Billy Gibbons and now Jeff the talking Mongoose perfect night. How do we how do people find your podcast? Oh, sure. Just go just go. Check out the unbelievers podcasts. We do a kind of a comedy paranormal podcast. I saw someone mentioned buck earlier. I wasn't sure if they were talking about from out monsters. Same buck passed away the he'd he he passed away he had some lung issues, but we did we did pass away. No, not that one. But a different. Thank god. Yeah. A different one. But I'm gonna put you on hold. Tom wants to talk to you in a second. And Tom we have texture tweets. What do you have force? We have one from Greg green, Tennessee. I'd like you to describe what you think it will be like here on earth in one hundred years from now. Well, that's an interesting take one hundred years from now, this planet could be going through all kinds of things governments could change countries. Could change earth changes could be huge. It is not going to be the same kind of planet. We see today in technology. If it keeps going at the same pace will be absolutely. Through the roof through the maybe technology will be so that we will live for one hundred years, they'll fix everything that goes wrong with us. You know, would you wanna live four hundred years if if you weren't? Able to get around and stuff like that. No, no. What I'm saying? If I felt like I do now. Of course, I would and if they could fix that with technology back to the phones, let's go to Ken in Slidell, Louisiana, welcome to the program. Hi, ken. Hi, george. How are you my friend? I'm good. Thank you. Yes. I enjoy listening to your show and really enjoyed the show on you had with coral castle with Ed lead Skullman. Yes. Yes. I think the caller before the break is mother apparently sponsored at got him into the country. Yes. I thought that was very interesting. You seem to be man way ahead of his time. And he was first magnetism. The reason I'm calling is there's something that I I had experienced about. Let's say about twelve years ago. And. I had left home shortly and turn the corner. And it wasn't around even Tom. In the skyline. It was just like the sun was just going down. I don't know if you can picture this, and when describing to you, but this guy was like. Hint of blue and going dark, but. I saw these lights and these lights were in the shape of the. And they had like a yellow. Hi. Color has a light big or small one big really big something. I've never seen him a life. It was very unusual. So fixated up I actually pulled off to the sun out of my truck and just the deer and looked at and quiet was pretty quiet. No noise from it. And you know, it looked like it was, you know, pretty high. But some, you know, clearly, you could make out the shape. Oh, yeah. Definitely. And all the lights were equally distant you know in the distance. There's no way that it could have been aircrafts. You know flying in and you would have heard that if it was right, right? It was it was very unusual experience. And I've never seen anything like it in the life. I don't know what year was that. Oh. I'd have to say it was about twelve years ago. So. Yeah. Not not nine hundred ninety seven was the Phoenix lights. So this this was well after that. But it was just so unusual. And like, I said, no noise never seen anything like this. It was so massive. And it was in the sky clam classic UFO picture. Can. That's what you saw classic. And people who are seeing these large triangular shaped objects that are huge like a mile long. I mean that just defies logic. You magin seen a mile long craft up there. And you're looking at it. That's huge Bill and Toronto's with us. Now. Welcome to the program. Hi, bill. Hi, george. How are you k- house Toronto these days called is that freezing freezing back? I we're coming out of it. I think we're going to be plus avid, which is celsius of your boat. Just above thirty to thirty two. Plus. Yeah, I know I met your in Toronto. I actually I introduce you to a Richard Serra job was you? Okay. Yeah. You know? But I mean, you had no one, Richard. You had done your show. But was your first it, right? I tried to get here chorus radio to do. So I'm gonna tell you about an incident that I had with the day like doing it was August twenty fourteen out here and pick noon and some golden eagles were flying above the the house. Right. So Barbara my wife were lucky that it and out into the distance. We've seen this. Don, a white dot. I'm talking to sky was crystal blue crystal blue, and I got five to go get our burgers with their eight hundred forty two. And we we call it. It was on a sixty degree angle. And it was in the northeast, and it looked like a white Pearl. And so been a change color to like like a like an orange and it went back to white. And then this little atmospheric cloud came and it went it kind of disappeared. And then it was out of sight. So I went I called the Peter Davenport's number, right? Actors the phone. This is like nearly. Yeah. Sometimes he does August twenty eight. So he told me what to do to go to his web page put everything down. Right. So we did. And a couple of days later, we went, and we did make sure that we put it down George someone from Syracuse New York now we're in Pickering, Ontario. So we're north of Lake Ontario right there accused New York is so east of Lake Ontario. Right. It's it's he's seen the same thing. And he wrote in to Davenport, right? And it's on the web page. That's how I knew you go to Davenport's page, August twenty fourteen and you'll see it's still there today. Right. So anyways, I I get on the map. And I do it intersects it. So I'm I draw the line from sixty degrees from Pickering northeast, and I do the same intersection from Syracuse where he would've seen the object. The same description as I did. Karp on -tario. And I wonder how many other people saw this. Well, I don't know. Like for him to write this down. And so anyways Carpentaria is an old Canadian military base. That has an underground bunkers the decent Baker broker and the Canadian government built in the fifties. For case there was a nuclear war. It's still open today for visitors. Isn't that weird? It is strange, and I had another sighting we were down in Dominican. In February twenty seventeen and we're not just couple right? And we they were going back to to scotch one our Canada. So we were watching the airplane takeoff through binoculars, and we're following the airplane in all of a sudden, there's this Brown disc, I'm talking it was like we're looking through the same. Forty two's. And Dominican right? It was five o'clock in the evening, and we was towards the west of the sun was kinda going down. And you could see the plane which was full field in the in the binoculars. But this Brown desk was was visible. And it looked like it was behind the plane, and it kind of looked like yin Yang that you know, with the is it like for the karate. Yes. With the question marks. And that's so anyways, I took the binoculars wait it wasn't visible. I went back in with the binoculars. It was there. I got my wife. Barb. She looked at it. And we've seen it. And then all of a sudden it just put it was gone. And it was weird. You must be a magnet for you. Afo sightings to be sure. I mean, some people don't see them in their entire lifetime. Don's with us now, Kent, Ohio. Hey, Don, welcome to the program. Rather chores. Thank you so much for taking my call unhappy Sabbath, I grew up Roman Catholic, and I I was talking to my priest. You know, he was my instructor to the CCD classes that's competition of Christian doctrine classes. And you know, he chided me for joining the Rosa croutons, he said I joined the dark side. And you know, why Rosa Cruzan I told him about this story and one of the meetings, we are to lady show up their young gal, and they had short hair, which is kind of not in vogue at the time. Because you know. Yeah. Like Sierra doing. And they were talking, and I I'm listening to them, and they didn't miss a beat their pronunciations were, you know, excellent their manners. I've been very well educated. And at the time, Akron, Ohio was the rubber capital of the world. You know, tyrod city, and so I asked him I thought they worked for, you know, I an executive secretary for one of the, you know, robbery industries in and I him so well, what do you do on your day job, you know, and they go, well, we're not. Absolutely. Nuns? Yeah. And so I I was talking to father, you know, he didn't about it. And he goes he says, look, I don't know what the problem is what Catholics, but we have a propensity. We lose more of our congregation going into source arri and magic, you know, Rosa Cruzan his the dark side. Of course, once they started getting into reincarnation, I in some of the other stuff, I just pulled out of it. But you know, at very very kinda strange that, you know, then our denomination has that weakness, you might say him, and you know, it was kind of offensive. So that was one thing you know, that and I started reading in on my way bible and how God condemns neck romancing and trying to talk with the dead nickel, meaning debt, of course. And how king Saul was killed for consulting with the witch of indoor, and, you know, and and people are always trying to inquire, you know, without palm reading and sources. And psychic, you know counselors, and, you know, ascended masters, and you talking with you know, some things from the occult, exactly. And you know, he got says why don't they inquire a knee instead of these spirits, they'd go, you know, peep in the dark, and so it was interesting talking with one of the guys, and he was telling me, so you know, it's very interesting that people that have experiences he says that they usually have a couple of things that go wrong with them. Like they have sleep district disruptions. They can't think normally the psychological issues, and he says sometimes they have skin problems. He says these are all signs of the monarch possession. And it was Jack of lay who said that..

"Back to coast to coast. Here we go with more open lines. Let us go to Russian Louisiana east of the Rockies. Hey Ross welcome to the program. Hey, george. Thank you so much for taking my call. Thank you. How are things. Yeah. Yeah. I wanna talk about well earlier, you talked about Billy Gibbons, your friend. Yeah. I'm a longtime listener and one of my favorite open lines calls ever was a guy named Ricky from Houston who called in and said he was going to pull Billy Gibbons feared really it really got your goat. It was one of my favorite coast to coast moments with you ever. It was so great. Yeah. I do. Oh, yeah. He talked about how he worked on the boardwalk dances. He was really good at it. Great. But the reason I'm calling. I just got my book in tonight from Tim are swertz, the just the talking Mongoose book. Okay. He was on your show just a couple of weeks ago. Right. Yep. You sure was. Yeah. So I wanted to ask you question on a scale of one to ten if you're can rate Christie's in aliens. You put Bigfoot probably about a nine or ten right in terms of popularity everybody knowing about it, just the general public, not the coast to coast audience, not not us, just Bigfoot probably. High on the list high on the list grey aliens, right? Probably a ten high on the list now where would you put Jeff the talking Magas way down at the bar? I don't think a lot of people knew about Jeff the Mongoose. At more. So now, but still way down there at the bottom more. Now, I put maybe even dog man probably about a three or four. And that's when Ricky called in. I have a very good memory Richelle probably dog now by be a three or four. But yeah, Jeff the talking Mongoose. He's not even maybe a one or maybe a one on the list. Yeah. Foot the weird the weird synchronicity of it. All it's like is. I just started show because I'm very, you know, influenced by you and art I have a show called unbelievers podcast. Good for you. We did an episode about Jeff the talking Mongoose just off some research from an old book, I found when re release the episode two hours later is when you interviewed him chronicity about it. People people started blowing me up saying, hey, coast to coast is doing Jeff the Mongoose. I'm like, no, no, no. What are you talking about? We know. This is our thing. Now. How could this happen? But I gotta say since nineteen thirty one. I don't think Jeff has gotten this much attention at all it's been almost nearly eighty years. And now, Jeff the talking Mongoose is a thing. Now in the book is going to say, I'm very happy with the bolts are good. It's a good book. It's a bizarre topic. But it's a good book. So what is your opinion? Overall. Do you think he's is it a poltergeist is he a cryptic the what was really happening there? I mean, they had legitimate people come in and research it and say they believe that. I just wanna know what you think they did say that they believe that the Mongoose was talking and could reason and understand, and I so I think it was possessed much my take mine mine too. And I don't believe that that they're saying that the young girl was that good of a toilet quiz. Look. I was kind of a nerd. I was young. I don't think you can be that good ever twilla Clinton trick everybody know to trick a race car driver. And and anyone from England coming investigate from New York. It was, but I wanna say I was trying to say thank you very much doing that topic. It was a complete left field. And that's where you need to be. It's perfect. You've had some great calls tonight. But. Bringing a Billy Gibbons. And now Jeff the.

I'm Joe Nolan on Seventy-seven WABC look at Ryan mongoloid, the hipster the millennial that I hate and despise from Matsu pizza, aka massapequa, do you know, his wife sent him in with Tupperware, and he burp did. And what did he have in their slices of come quad? I know so weird small fruit bearing tree it comes slices of come quad. Really? That's your fruit. Should I say the Brian Mongoose proudest that he is like a come qua? Well, how weak you can spell it with both the K and to see how solver for K? But then again, that's okay. And that's all he's going to eat today. Come coach because naturally, it's like feast or famine this is not how you need to lead your life. When I say, you need to have certain number of fruits and vegetables each and every day, you can't binge one day and be income quads on your special k breakfast in the morning. Well, I don't know that they would do well on that. There is the size of a large Ali. He's forced to he's a Maytag to which wife is wife says you gotta econ he eats it on every fairly cold hardy citrus. That's not gonna do it. What you do is get your food chain vegetables in tablet form the way, I do to balance of nature fruits and veggies. In fact, at my age, sixty four and let's see Brian mongoloid. Here's what thirty four like fourteen. You don't need as many servings as I do thirty one servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and you're not going to be able to chop two bushels full. "Of the time Jeff would not talk unless was somewhere nearby. That tells you something right there, doesn't it? Yeah. Very much. So very much though, you know, when she was nearby. You know, I it wasn't like she was hanging back, and you know. You know, covering her mouth or anything everything like that. That. I think. Coincidence that she was there when it happened now when she did finally leave home and move to move to England. Poltergeist type activity continued in the house, but the talking stopped. That's interesting to tell us about the cover picture of this book. Jeff the talking Mongoose. What are we looking at here? The cover picture is the the the house it it went by the name of passion, gap, or Doorly passion, as the that was the Manx Gaelic name of the place in the Mongoose was painted on that or is that something superimposed? No, no, no. That was that's that's a little bit of of of poetic, graphic license little artistic license. That's right. That's right. But now the the couple of standing on the front porch. Now that was a voice she was about thirteen when the picture was taken. And then the man was her father Jim who was in his middle sixties at that point. Stephen is going to be one. Of our next callers. But Doug is waiting. I in Sayerville New Jersey. Hey, Douglas, go ahead. Yes. Good evening. Thank you for taking the call. I wanna go back against the Mongoose. I've got a very dear friend of mine who is in the marines and back back in the eighty between eighty one and eighty four he was back and forth to India for several times and brought back some footage of an incredible street corner performers with the Mongoose and the Cobra fights, and they had, you know, people doing things monkeys and translators and whatnot Asia. Well, he's just believe it or not he should they would talk. I said what would talk he should the Mongoose. He said he said, it wasn't really talking, but they could imitate noises that make it sound like words, he says when you would bring the Mongoose out of the cage it when they brought it out. It would sound as if it was saying kill the snake kills kill the snake. And he said he'd go to the next corner. And the guy would have a Mongoose there. And it would be saying words that he didn't know what they were. They were in Indian. But they they would imitate sounds like this. I don't know if they made predictions and whatnot, and you know through things that people like this other one did. But he he he's got footage of this other the Mongoose fighting with with the cobras and and. Crazy stuff like that from when he was in the service in every once in a while after a football game or something and we had a few two beers. We want to relax before we drive home health in wanted was, you know, is service tapes, and you see this stuff, and it's it's pretty impressive. The sounds and the and the vocalisations that these animals can make or maybe these mongooses are smarter than we think, Tim. That's that's a very interesting story because I I had this in the book where in in the nineteen thirties, it was widely believed that among goose could talk that stories coming out of India, like like, the caller said was that among goose could almost be like a parrot and could imitate not only animal sounds, but but you've been sounds as well, you know, that that leads. Some researchers in the the Jeff case to to conclude that the possibly, you know, it it was among goose, but that it was not as intelligent as as you know, the Irby's claimed it was that it was just merely. Parodying back a words and phrases though. I with the exception of of what the caller said, I I have not run across as similar cases where where people have, you know, have said that they were able to get their bunkers to. Vocalise to that extent. It's gonna any in Alabama now. Hi, Andy, go ahead. George. I think that Nikola Tesla's journals and typers are likely to ended up in Fort Myers, Florida Thomas Edison's time, which was made. Museum because I believe Aniston would have had a motive. Hands on those things because I was always in competition. That's true. Claim credit for the light bulb. I don't think he invented the lightbulb. I think tesla what do you think of that? Tim Edison, did not get along with tesla. Did he? Oh, no, no, no. The the two did not do not care. If I I think it was more Edison than tesla. I think it was it was pretty mutual by by the end of the other lifestyles, you know, Edison, did not like tesla because tesla developed the the the alternating current which was in direct competition to Edison's DC current. Yes. And you know, Edison. I mean, he was tesla was right. Yes. Very much. So yeah. But you know, Edison was making a lot of money off of his DC current. And then here this young upstart comes along with a more efficient cost effective system. And I mean, that's that was income that was a bread taken out of Edison's mouth. And you know, he was the the ultimate American capitalist. And he did not like that also brain power, and he didn't like that. Either. Exactly. Well, I need, you know, Edison relied on a lot of his engineers to actually make his idea. Is come about. Edison would say I wanna light bulb and then you had a whole room full of engineers. Make it. So and that Edison would take all the credit. Let's go to Steve driving in Peoria, Stephen, go ahead, sir. Oh, good more, a great sake. You guys I had a question about Tesla's Pat plan for the power stations wireless power station. I guess I was wanting no. You know, was that basically kind of more or less a cost thing? Well, he was in partnership with Westinghouse was he not for the the wireless transmission of electricity. He actually was getting funding from JP Morgan J P Morgan. Okay. And. Tesla JP couldn't see how to make money with it. Where exactly Morgan could not conceive. How this could be metered. They don't have any. I was right. It was free power. Oh, yeah. Energy out of the unit out of the atmosphere. I mean know was a smart guy. I mean, you know, if if Morgan was just, you know. I could just look ahead just a little bit. I'm sure that tesla could've come up. They could've come up some way to make money. We're gonna come up and wrap things up with final calls next..

"Hall part of the earth and came into contact with the with the people who, you know, supposed supposedly lived there back to the Mongoose for a moment. The Mongoose have we had any episodes since like that? Nothing nothing like nothing like that. You know, we've had and I've covered this in the book we've had a talking poltergeist talking haunting the the infield poltergeist haunting in a nineteen seventy seven you had similar currents where one of the girls could produce voices. Without obedient. Her mouth fact, they even let him, you know, like taped her mouth shut so water and voices would still come out of her. There's intensive extensive recordings. In fact, out of this case, I think it could very well be similar to possibly what was going on with Jeff. Because. The majority of the time Jeff would not talk unless Borey was somewhere nearby. Well, that is that tells you something right there, doesn't it? Yeah. Very much so very much. So though, you know when she was nearby. You know, I it was like she was hanging back, and you know. "Hey and welcome back with Tim Schwartz as we wrap up our discussion about Jeff the talking Mongoose before we talk about his work. The secret lost diary of Admiral Richard e Byrd. Tim. So the consensus of many of the people who investigated the Mongoose claimed that it though, it could be a hoax it equally could be something paranormal, and I find that fascinating. Very much. So it had all the air marks of of being similar to a poltergeist. And you know, the the I love manque also, Pat. A rich tradition of of you know, like house spirits fairies bounties that sort of thing. And and and Jeff acts an awful lot. Like what traditionally would have been referred to as house spirit. I mean, he he protected the household. He could talk. He he laughed. I guess. Oh, yeah. He had I guess a number of different types of laughs. One of the one of them being satanic is as Jim Irvine called it a laugh that would chill chill you to the bone. But but he also he he liked the chocolate, biscuits, and and and bacon. He was he was very quick to anger. But then again, he had a great sense of humor. So I've often wondered whether or not Jeff could have been some sort of elemental spirit that was given energy especially by a by four eight who is. Preadolescent into adolescence. Did he ever attack? Anybody the he'd he'd never attacked at people accept that? You know, he would throw stuff at them. I mean, he would spit on him. He would throw rocks tattoo needles, but little temper didn't he had very much had a temper, but he would also catch and kill rabbits household. I think that he killed over two hundred rabbits during his time. What would you say was the most bizarre or surprising thing you came across the most surprising thing that I came across was that a reporter for fate magazine nineteen seventy so that was the magazine for the paranormal in those days. It was it was he was able to track a worry down. She was sixty two at the time and up to that point. She had actually refused to talk to anybody. But he finally convinced. Her and spend a day with her, and you know at fifty two if she had been hoax at that point. I think that you know, he probably would have said. Yeah, you know, this is just. Hogwash. But just the opposite. She said that. Nope. It was all real everything that we said happened happened. And she actually hated it. She said that Jeff ruined her life that she never got married because she was afraid that you know, what say like a. My fiance found out that she was that girl that they'd never had anything to do with her. But but yeah, she said that everything happened just like the they described. Now, let's move onto your other work. The secret diary of Admiral, Richard e Byrd. Of course. He was a navy officer and flu apparently into what could be the hollow earth through what the south pole. There are conflicting stories with that. The the book the the diary of Admiral Byrd. Surfaced. I probably in the late nineteen fifties. Early nineteen sixties that it was a what was called the sat where people would copy the version that they have and then send it onto somebody else. And in this it allegedly was the dotes that that that bird and his pilot had recorded during a some guy named Bennett. Yes. Yes. Exactly. During a a North Pole flight over over the Arctic in nineteen forty seven. But the thing about that is and this is something that I covered in my book birds. Dirty over the over the foles was that at that. Same time bird was actually in Antarctica in a government expedition called operation hijab. So. I it's it's a fascinating story that you know, it it it. It involves so much that it's. The book that I the book that I put together and and subsequent articles that I have written really gets into the idea that possibly the the the. The diary of Admiral Byrd may have been a misdirection over what actually was going on in Antarctica with operation hijab. Now, the the diary of bird recounts that that bird allegedly ran into UFO's which escorted him through the northern polar opening. Strange animals and everything else. Strange animals a civilization. He met with people who who, you know, lived in the whole earth notebook quotation marks around around that. And they they gave him a story very much like the the the contact ease. Fifties that the people on the service world were going to blow everything up with their atomic weapons and that the people on earth, they weren't gonna have it. And that unless we stop they were going to come out and intervene, and and then and then he sent back. Where were these episodes recorded in his diaries, or was it just hearsay? For years. His diary. From this time had been lost. Now. I guess it's been about five or six years ago it actually resurfaced and and and is now being. Now kept the university in. I think don't you know? It could be it could be in Virginia where he was born in Virginia. At it had nothing to do with. The alleged diaries of his journey over the North Pole. Now, people have researchers have have looked at the the one that popped up in the early nineteen sixties and that it is consistent with types of notes at him and his pilots. You know, we're we're we're taking half the time while his supposedly. He's authenticated diary. Is more polished like it was written after the fact while the first one. Was basically just bare bones, you know, the type of material that you would write while you were actually on airplane. You know, rather than at your desk years later. Why would somebody Tim make up the story of Richard Byrd going into the hollow earth? Well, I don't think it's a coincidence that the the timeline allegedly when he was flying over the North Pole in all our challenge. He was at Dartington nineteen forty seven with operation. I think that that something happened during the hijab expedition in after that. Something classified classified very classified. And I think that possibly the the lost IRA's bird was put out as kind of direction as disinformation. You you put out something that is so outrageous that, you know, people like, oh, this is definitely, you know, this is definitely this definitely hosts. And then that you know, that lens that air of doubt about anything that would come out. So if any information about what happened in operation hijab leaked. People with that associate the lost diaries with this newly leaked information. It'd be like, oh, well, that's that's just as fake as the last lost Irish. It's amazing. How people in those days whether we're talking about Jeff the Mongoose or Richard Byrd's trip really seem to grasp the unusual stories in the paranormal much more than I think they do today. I think that I think there were a little bit more jaded today. Yeah. More believable in those states very much. So and you know, now, we are constantly bombarded with with news and information. I mean, you know, you have the twenty four hour news channels on cable television. You have the internet. You can find practically every little bit of information and every viewpoint. No matter, you know, how normal or how crazy over the internet. So I. In the days, you.

"And welcome back to coast to coast. Tim Schwartz back with us EMMY award winning television, producer videographer at Z author of a number of very popular books, including what we're going to talk about tonight. That is Jeff the talking Mongoose time permitting. We'll talk about his previous book, the secret diary of Admiral, Richard e Byrd. That's an incredible story all by itself. As a photo journalist, Tim has traveled extensively investigated paranormal phenomena and other unusual mysteries as locations as the great pyramid in Egypt. The great wall in China. He's the writer in editor of the online newsletter conspiracy journal, which is a free weekly Email newsletter considered essential reading by paranormal researchers world bride. He's also the host of the webcast exploring the bizarre along with Timothy green Beckley on the case, CEO radio dot com site, and here he is back on coast to coast Tim Schwartz. Tim, welcome. All right. Thank you, George. It's always a pleasure to be with you hit is. I'm looking forward to this to what's new with you these days. Oh, keeping busy and. I'm here tonight. Just recently finished the Jeff the talking Mongoose book had absolutely fascinating case. Jeff GEF, tell us a little bit about first of all what is a Mongoose to people who don't know. Well, a Mongoose is a a little animal. It's it's best known for being a just a voracious snake killer. There was a popular book and the cartoon that was made based on a Mongoose, Richard. Dealt with the life of other Mongoose, and this Mongoose Jeff is the real deal. Well, he said he was. You know in his. Jeff's quotes and could be a less than modest, but he would say things like that. He was the fifth dimension. Or the the wonder of the world at times he said that he was a ghost in the form of a weasel haunt you with weird noises clanking chains. And in. And in one of his modest moments. He he said that he was just an extra extra clever little Mongoose. Now told me a little bit more about the some of the things this Mongoose did. Well. His most outstanding feature was that supposedly he could talk. He first appeared on a a little farm on the isle of man, which is located in the the Irish Sea. And the the farm was owned by a family by the name of the Irving's James Irvine and his wife Margaret and their twelve year old daughter worry in nineteen thirty one, Jim. And and there's and you're not pulling my leg. Here are Utah. This is this story was so popular it was covered in not only local newspapers, but international newspapers. Just the Daily Mail the pants Chester daily newspapers like that. There was actually a book written by the paranormal investigator Harry price in nineteen thirty six detailing this case, and I mean, it's it's such a fascinating case. And so unique the the research that I've conducted over years on this case, I have never run across anything quite like it. It's just so so special, and and it really it it it holds. Yeah. There are a lot of paranormal. Researchers like myself that. This is the case that I think everyone has a just kind of like this little warm spot in their heart about it. Because it is. It's just so you need and it actually happened. Now, how did this Mongoose end up with this family? Well, the the Irving's Jim Irving, especially he said that it started out that they were hearing noises in the wall of their house. They when they had moved to makes in nineteen twelve he went about and a renovated a little bit because it was a stone building, and he put up wood paneling to insulate the inside. So there is about a four inch gap between the paneling, and then the original stove waltz, and they could hear some kind of animal within the walls scrabbling about well. They thought it was Iraq or whatever. So. So he put out poison and traps, which which didn't work, and then whatever this was in the wall started making noise, it started beacon almost human like noises. So Jim in like a last ditch effort he tried growling at it like a dog try to scare it away. Well, this thing growl back, and it progressed from there, Jim and Borey, especially as twelve year old daughter would would make various animal noises at it. And it would maybe came back, and then this turned in too. They would talk to it. And it would talk back would answer them or repeat what they said that I it would repeat what they said. Borey actually started reciting nursery rights to it. And then it would repeat the nursery rice almost like a parent very much. So, but then it started talking on its tone, and it it showed that it had intelligence that it could think for itself, it was self aware amazing now there are a lot of people who believed that the little twelve year old girl through her voice and pretended to be Jeff is that true. Well, that was the that was the rumor on the island stat that this was that this was a hoax of some kind that. And in fact, Avoriaz schoolmates said that she was a ventriloquist. But if you think about it if you watch a ventriloquist either on stage or on television. You know, they have a dollar a dummy that attracts the attention away from you. Everyone's looking at right and not the first and then we'd look at them to see if their lips are moving. Right. Exactly. And and at the time, you know, they called it throwing your voice, which there's no such person. Does that throw their voice? It's it's it's the art of deception so to speak. So if he was that kind of ten krill acquisced if she was that good. Why did she become you know, like this? This superstar veterans were very popular in that time. But really, I find it hard difficult to believe that for almost ten years. That's how long this phenomenon lasted that boring was able to trick everybody. Without being caught. Why even that paranormal investigator, you mentioned a Harry price? Did he not spend some time there? Yes. He did. There were a number of paranormal investigator that that came to the island, and and do that the Irvy's now Harry price when he showed up by Jack refused to talk. Jeff just absolutely would not perform he he later said that I would never meet with rice and some others because they were doubters as as he put it how weird. Well, it's and it's this, you know, of course, Lee skeptics to believe that this was a trick give especially by by. Fori that you know, somebody who maybe had some credentials and knew how to look for this kind of tricks today. Jeff would have his own face park and everything else he has a Twitter account right now. Let's see. I guess I guess as a Jeff bought some kind of a bought, but you can go to the Jeff the Mongoose spot on Twitter. And there are like every day. His his quotes things that were recorded that he said, we'll we'll we'll pop up now the mongooses obviously dead now, right? Yes. After after James died in nineteen forty five the family sold the farm, and they moved away the gentleman that bought the place afterwards claimed that a few months after he he moved in that he caught he he he said it was a large animal with yellow and black for in a trap that growled at his dad him. So a clubbed to death. The picture that he took of it lift nothing like, you know, whatever one said that Jeff it looked like it in fact years later when four he saw a picture of it. She said that that was a Jeff and the picture which sadly has has disappeared. Those who have seen it said that it more than likely was stuck. Is there any kind of recording of Jeff talking? No, unfortunately, you know, in that time, you know, the nineteen thirties. They're really worried too. I mean, you could use like a like a gramophone type of device to record. But, you know, the the Irving's farm cash gap is it was called was so isolated. There was no electricity. They didn't have a radio nothing. So it would have been difficult for them for anybody to get any kind of recording device out there. Czar story, Tim, I mean, truly it is now. Do they have photographs of this creature? There is about a floor five photographs that of worry took. Harry price had given her a camera with with film and finally allegedly. She convinced Jeff. To to make an appearance so they were outside, and Jeff would she said Jeff would like jump on this fence, really quick. And she would have to try to take the picture. And like I said she produced about four or five photographs. But they're they're not that great. I I have them, you know, in my book, and a lot of people note that whatever they say is it appears to be a little bit bigger than Jeff. Allegedly was supposed to be about eighty nine inches to a foot long kind of small with a bushy tail almost the description almost sounds like a like, a squirrel that you know, he said he was a he was a Mongoose. So, you know, it's it's it's hard to say a lot of there was hair samples that were given to investigators that the the hair turned out to be from the family's dog. Of course. Now, Jeff, Jeff what who provided this here? So if we're talking about an actual physical creature. I mean, he could take the dog hair. But you know, I in the book, I wonder whether or not if Jeff was more than just an actual talking monk. What do you think he he could have been? Well, you know, there's there's a he has all the appearances a dean. Like, a poltergeist or I was going to say some kind of spirit or something very very much. Now, he claimed even though the like I said at times he said that he was found spirit most of the time he would say that that he was he was a physical creature. And in fact, he allegedly was terrified of ghost. He didn't. He didn't like anybody talking about ghosts. Because he said a frightened him. In fact, one time Jim Irving heard Jeff talking to his wife and the kitchen now when I say talking t- Jeff would talk from the from behind the paneling in the house. Nobody ever saw him except for brief glimpses. So that's highly suspect, very, let's so, but then again, you know, it was only about a four inch gap. So it'd be hard for a person. Have there been any other reported cases of animals talking like Jeff did not like Jeff did? I I have a couple of of of cases in my book where it it was more dislike a brief snatches of of speed. That's the people just came out in the emails talking about similar cases. But nothing nothing like Japanese. Nothing with this really this intelligence, self awareness. Pt Barnum would've loved to have gotten a hold of this thing. Definitely. I mean, they they had the Irving's had all kinds of offers, you know, from circuses and sideshows places like that, you know, to try to get a Jeff. But. He was a part of a farm, which I think that is telling point. You know, would not budge from it would not perform on q. He had a mind of his own. I guess he did I mean in his conversations he would be intelligent enough to be able to talk freely with somebody. Yes. Definitely. Hi. How are you this morning? A lifeline. What about you, not bad? Data rat today something like that. Exactly. Exactly. He would he he allegedly would travel all over the island and then come back and gossip. He would tell the Irving things that happened in their neighbors houses are are down at the bus station in in in the and what's that? That's also a characteristic of some talking poltergeists cases at the bell witch from Tennessee was that was a big gossip key would tell everybody's secrets. You know, if you had a secret in that area the Bill which would based based on your researched him. Do you think this was the real deal? Something was bizarre was going on here. Why as opposed to a hoax? I do you know. I mean, I am not the type of person that that, you know, we'll go and say, oh, well, I believe because. Belief belief is the killer. You gotta keep keep an open mind. But I do think that something unusual was going on in that house at that time. It wasn't a hoax. But you know, just exactly what it was is really open to speculation. But something was definitely going on these mongooses are as big as a cat. I think. Yes. Yes. And and Jeff was. Smaller really that..
