Yes, Capitol Rioters Were Armed. Here Are The Weapons They Used
"Of the people who attacked the U. S Capitol in January six. Syria's of videos on the FBI website shows the mob punching and beating officers. It also shows rioters using what appear to be batons and baseball bats and dousing some police with chemical sprays. Still, some have falsely claimed that the capital riders were not really armed. That day. NPR investigative correspondent Tom Dreisbach reports on why that's just not true. Not long after the Capitol riot, Republican Senator Ron Johnson said this the fact the matter is this didn't seem isn't like an armed insurrection to me. When you hear arm don't stick up firearms, it's become a popular narrative that the capital riot was not really armed. It's also misleading. First, Let's talk about guns. It is true that the only gun fired on January 6th was by law enforcement who killed writer Ashley Babbitt. But the Justice Department has brought gun charges against at least three people connected to the violence of the capital. Those three are not alleged to have breached the building. One of those defendants, Lonnie Kaufman, allegedly parked his truck near the capital filled with what a federal judge called a small armory authorities seizing from Kaufman's truck, multiple firearms, a crossbow. And a cooler containing particularly lethal homemade Molotov cocktails. Prosecutors have also cited evidence from Facebook posts and witness statements that other writers brought guns on the Capitol grounds, too. Capitol Police estimate around 800 people breached the building. But the vast majority were not arrested or searched at the time, so we just don't know exactly how many might have been carrying guns. But the other weapons people were armed with Those were plainly visible from the footage that day. investigators say there were batons, fire extinguishers, baseball bats, clubs, at least one stun gun. As well as pepper spray. Those weapons are often classified as less lethal. But police expert Lorenzo Boyd says they can still be deadly. What we do know is there were a lot of other weapons that could be lethal weapons as applied, officials say more than 100 officers were injured on January 6th entry, suffering gouged eyes, concussions and damage spinal discs. Capitol Police officer Brian Sick. Nick was allegedly sprayed by two writers with an unidentified chemical and died the following day. Authorities still have not identified his exact cause of death. NPR has been tracking every single criminal case related to the capital riots. Now more than 300 of those cases, we've identified nearly 40 that reference, a suspect wielding some sort of weapon. This was a pretty heavily armed crew of people compared to what you usually see it protests that tidy Pyrrhic, co founder of the global project on Hate and extremism. She's followed extremist groups for decades. Even when you see people who are armed it protests and states, for example, where they have open carry laws. They aren't storming into a building using the weapons in the way that we saw at the Capitol. What's clear is that given the weaponry seen on January, 6th things could have been a lot worse but by Rick is concerned that efforts to downplay the violence are less about the fax. About politics. Key arrests from the Washington, DC riot so far
"He's got the latest today. Michael Welcome back to the show. Thank you so much for having me mark. We're seeing dozens that have been charged already. In the days since a mob of Trump supporters storm the U. S Capitol and disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election results Now to be clear some of those folks that were there that broke into the capital Did themselves harm like they were wearing their badges for the place that they're employed by and once their employers found out about it, they fired those folks. But the Justice Department officials are also saying they've been able to with the help of the American people. Nab some of the people that are responsible for breaking in. In fact, three of the highest profile accused rioters from last week siege have been arrested in charge like Jake of Anthony. Chance, Lee, You probably don't know the name or the AK. He goes by Jake and jelly. This is the guy who they were calling on some level. The guy who made the list that had makeup and horns and of some form of for blanket on him or something. They're saying he's the Cuban on shaman. That's what he calls himself and as the Cuban on shaman he has been arrested for breaking into the capital, in fact, technically turned himself into the FBI on their office on Thursday after the whole riots went down on Wednesday afternoon. So he turned himself in. He is now facing charges. The guy who's responsible for carrying around Nancy Pelosi's lectern in the capital has been arrested in his facing charges. Adam Christian Johnson eyes also gonna be facing charges here and Richard Barnett. That name may not sound familiar, but you've seen his boots. He was the guy who was sitting in Nancy Pelosi's desk with his feet up on her desk are allegedly stole a piece of mail from her desk to prove that it was him. That was there. He was arrested on Friday in Arkansas and is scheduled to appear in federal court tomorrow and will ultimately be extradited to Washington, D. C and they're not the only ones. I mean, you've got Derrick Evans, who I don't necessarily think this was a smart move but videoed himself breaking into the capital, saying we're in. We're in Derrick Evans is in. So he referred to himself in third person posted it all on his social media posts, and here's the problem. He was a lawmaker in West Virginia's house of delegates. So when he did that, and was brought up on charges federal charges for breaking in, he had to resign from West Virginia's house of delegates on Saturday for doing that, and then, Lastly, Lonnie Kaufman, I don't know how much we're gonna hear about this because He's the guy that 70 year old from Alabama who allegedly brought guns and 11 Mason jar Molotov cocktails to the perp protest in his pickup truck. Now, from what we're hearing, none of those were used, but they were dangerously close. The vehicle is parked dangerously close to the capital. So what kind of charges will be brought for him? We're not sure. But we do remember how shocking it was that there was a truck that was found with Molotov cocktails and weapons so There will be some element of charges there. And that's just the starting point now Mark because we've got 17 cases, according to federal prosecutors that will be making their way into federal District Court with names attached to them, alleging serious high penalty crimes like violent entry and assaulting federal officers. Then you've got another 40 cases in the District of Columbia Superior Court on lesser charges like Curfew violations and non violent gun crimes that are also going to go through and this is just the starting point. They believe there's going to be more to come. The Cuban on Shaymen should face

Yeah. It's hard to know how that stuff. Because Does Warner go through with it and put the game out, and then alongside that saline hayward donating a portion of sales two years. You're showroom your own, I this. This may sound very jaded surprised if they even went that far I. don't know like you're right. Warner is such a huge old company. She's so wealthy and powerful like. I fully expect them to just power through this. Banking on baking on the mass market, and not even being aware of this. Sure. Sounds like I saw somebody I'm Chad. They'll just say. Turn it into bully, too. Which I really like that? All the magic out like instant bullies equal. Yeah. So Dow. Bloomberg story mentioned there was some footage elite this couple of years ago and like they were yeah. Legitimize that footage. They say yes. That was the game. So that stuff out there, but. It was weird because that footage leaked around the time that the The Nyanza game had also dropped. Or was on the way to dropping and people were very used plan. Say where the stuff will go I mean. Ethan bought a one guys I bought a fucking wont were kind of like a stick. Like what what? What was your like thing Rowen? would. That Means! A high tech, one like did they do the Star Wars Land, like make your own life saver kind of show you it to pay extra for that Oh great yeah. Boy You can get. You sticks man if you want. Jeff, yeah. No they all day. Totally are I mean. I could get a drumstick and cut the ends off it, so it's not tapered. I'll be more useful. We drumstick. Get some chopsticks and just I don't do something with him. you know like I? got a tree out front that I could. I got a knife year I'll I'll get to wiggling for the people that asked my core was unicorn hair. That's what I was trying to ask. Core. Okay, you go. Starting to ask what your? Let's just move on. A Doberman. You are the biggest griffin I know how God no. The nicest thing you've ever said to me bad, that's true. Yeah I guess nobody seems to know quite. What's going on with the kind of planned? Reveal for this game with a three being gone, and like the chaos of people that are fan dome. It's an audit sure. DC Fan does that see? Yes quake. Warner as part of it, so maybe DC a Harry Potter of reveal would not be out of place at at a at a DC event like this but I. I suppose yeah. I wouldn't be. Surprised guess. speaking of Rubert Video Games It sounds like ubisoft probably has a battle royale game. Going into Beta very soon. Like potentially next week. Though Yes, like I like how widely accessible of Obata? That has been basically leaked wake. The said to be called. hyperscale! some concept art leaked out like a kind of a logo treatment smother stuff leaked out on twitter over the last day or two. They're saying closed Beta actually potentially for next. SCI FI themes about royale out of ubisoft Montreal. Closed Beta next week, and potentially a full release as soon as the week after. I guess this is. Pretty close. I mean that would be. That would be if you think about it like their thing is what the twelfth threat. Range. Somewhere around there, so that's that is ubisoft. s guests that Israel I twelve. So, so guess maybe that was intended to be kind of well if they're running a close. That would be right, maybe they. Maybe they'd put up. I'm saying like they go from Beta to like wider released as the press, conference or something. Free download right now. Concept! tweeted. By a twitch streamer that was then re tweeted by UBISOFT, official. Middle East twitter account. So they, they seem to really be shying away from it exactly and okay. To. Say That like a set of paid interactions that you know fired off at the wrong time or did they change a plan at the last minute, but someone had some tweets already pre written yeah. Anyway they've gone teaser site. I guess they're fully embracing it at this point. PRISMA DIMENSIONS DOT COM is the. Is the website which is kind of a fake future corporation homepage. That's a way more interesting thing to say out loud than hyper escape. Hello, it says enter the hyperscale. Prison dimensions homepage. It like I said it's supposed to be sci fi urban themed. I don't know you guys done with battle riles at this point. into one more the room for another one. Obviously laid off. Montreal has been part of some pretty damn popular shooters. Some pedigree there. Yeah I guess I'm curious about the size of it and the the scope of the scape Because like it didn't Ubisoft Montreal also have like a lot of pet project. He Kinda smallish games. "Speaking of likes with looping like the justification for their looping. It just reminded me throw legacy us out in like three weeks. Address. Exciting to me. Yeah I can think of that had like a good reason as. The family line that stuff super cool I won't play that a lot. And then the other. Story, you know. Better can yeah. So. I. I want to thank everyone for rushing out wanting to sell me their ring fit. One myself and you boys. Legs are sore, did you? Did you manage to pay retail or did you? I paid retail. Okay, great I grabbed it from like best buy. Seen the number of people saying they made us track down I guess they must've done another run. They've they did it's? It's been back on shelves a little bit here and there yeah. Yeah. It's no joke. I gotta get like Legit S- sweatband headband Deleo now because Oh God. To work out, it's a workout who knew? Me Right. Yeah Yeah it makes. You stuck with it for quite a long time right like. Even through like the first. Day. It makes me a little bit curious about the durability of the ring and like the leg strap. The strap. Definitely had more wear I. Accidentally bought two leg straps because I thought, I was just getting an extra. Long Story. But, yeah, the electricity on that can kind of wear a little bit, but the ring itself man. I've beaten the game at this point and. It's still still responsive. Okay, it's good to know. Is a game just crazy longer? You've just been of taking your time with it. I stopped I stopped when it got really bad heatwave, and like a couple of weeks ago and I just never picked it back up. I've just been like. Jogging instead like a moron, but just I guess it is kind of like an anti binge game right like. Can't marathon your way through it, no, I. It's really nice getting in a rhythm with it and just like you know. Something that is cool about it is like you can just do the story mode like I was talking to abby only does the like exercises and doesn't do the story mode at all kind of. Multiple ways to go at it, but yeah, it's funny. Everyone who gets ring fit their first day with. It is just like what the fuck like what? They're serious about making a fitness game. Right? uh-huh! Yeah, they didn't. They didn't call it. Ring not fit. And this time the ring fits baby okay. I guess that's the the Games that. We have been playing that we can talk about. Mysterious Paul's all right. We'll say quick. We'll come back to talk about some other stuff. We'll see you in a minute. Let's turn those dreams into realities. As I, breathe in with.

"Aside you know any conversations about structure and story and Tony Stuff. The first time in a while like when I've completed, I wanted to go back. Not necessarily like re experience moments of the story, but like play it again because it was, it was fun to do some the encounters. Yeah, they actually they have like an encounter selecting in there where it literally cuts out the story like you can just hit the big combat encounters list, and when you finish run, it's like eighty-one a replay this one again. Do you WanNa? Skip to the next encounter you literally do like. Just say like like the do last of us to VR missions, but it sounds like that's kind of what like if you if you I haven't tried it, but I the way it's set up I. Think if you started at the first encounter on that encounter list since it just will jump to the next one can, you can literally do a story? Lewis run of that entire came all the way through the way. It's meant to be of course. Could you do that your first time through I think? Exposes as you complete? Basically. Did you. How'd you feel about it at the end? Like. A. I. I liked it. I like your head. You said I liked what I had. No feel I mean the feeling, so it's a common sentiment. A lot of people are like. I don't know if I liked it. I don't know if I would say enjoyed it, but I. appreciate it or whatever the weird thing look for listening to you talk about. It sounds like the thing. Is You actually did enjoy it just not the story you're. Talking about this fund stealth video game, and all these different ways you get to do stuff and like aw, check out this video game shit, and then you like at a story, though it's brutal ing. Okay, well, actually I feel like it's like a testament to the how good the combat designers in this game that spawning a little. Kind of subculture of animated gifts of people doing like John. Wick, Shit and it! S But like people are posted, a good one people yeah, like people are posting like look at this very second gift I did of killing people. In Lake, really stylish ways, it's John Wick video game, right Weird Weird Weird Element of that game I did not expect to a merger or catch on like that. I think more so my my interpretation about like outright saying that like I completely enjoyed. The story is that I think I more so enjoyed specific moments rather than it has it entirety, and then like upon finishing it like you know. I made the mistake of looking at the Internet, and seeing that it was like a complete garbage storm of people pooping on the game, for like every which reason and then like a lot of them hadn't even played the game. And it was it was so interesting to see how polarizing. It was to see like a certain twitch streamers, just like going long tirades after they had finished the game about how they absolutely hated it, and it is just like I. I don't know if it's whether or not. They have attachments to certain characters, or they have in version two different. archetypes of characters or different types of people in general that that's why didn't like the game, but then there's like a a a handful of characters specifically one of the companions that I grew absolutely love, and that I would actually probably kill for if something bad had happened to that character. And yet there's there's like moments genuine horror like the boss fight the brand and I were talking about before that leading up to it when there's a moment where you get captured And the fallout after that just trying to gain your bearings again, just like absolutely terrifying, and also it's not just like these Ambi- aspect or like these stealth aspect, if there's another part in the second half, the game that plays on a different type of fear, which I thought was interesting, and like I don't normally suffer from fear of heights at all, but it. During sequence there was a moment where it's like you know. I'm kinda getting like dizzy I I need to. Take a break! Pause. Yeah was an interesting sequence for sure. Yeah, so you think that's something you should check out. The tower built on the minecraft. Serve jump off that thing into the water below if you want, but now think. I'll get. Yours. I got started building my glassbottom sky highway so okay cool fear of heights tola tent. Up off to find updates trucking along who were all? Done almost a third of the way they're finally. O Obviously, there was a lot of discourse online about. The length of the game. Do you guys feel that the game could have been as enjoyable or effective or whatever metric? Hold it, too, if it had been like half as long or or twenty hours thirty hours, you feel like the game was over stuffed at who? Are The I think the the thing when I feel like when I talk about a game being too long, it's usually in the context of they ran out of ideas right at some point, and you're like okay. Now I'm just kind of doing the same thing over and over again, and the story is kind of spinning its wheels like. Let's wrap it up. Case here yeah I think. I think it did. It did need to be the way it is to get the point across that they're trying to make. It's been said it's pretty obvious. Point the. Drive home over and over to the point of Excess, so it's a huge We'll get into it more on. This casts like it's I. Don't know. Are we at the point where we can talk more specifically about like the structure what goes on in this game? Now probably not. Enough of it here that you know. The rest of it at this point, but like I mean I'm seeing a bunch of knows on the chat still. Here's a spoiler. You can slide backwards I saw that I didn't know you could do that. I'll. I didn't know that there was a backwards and threw the Molotov at the guy. I didn't aside Yeah Oh. Yeah I didn't realize there was a resident evil smile. Quick one eighty until like practically the end of the game. Are Resident Resin Evil like quick like turn behind. Yes. Yes, totally, that is Christ. Yeah, we're I mean I guess we'll just save. It were still planning to do it. Spoiler cast once once. On staff has chance to finish it. We'd into this stuff and were there, but like a big part of it is a very long game just by our count, but also a big part of the reason I feel like so many people think it's so long as that I have said this before the first point that I thought I was watching the ending of that game. Turned out to be roughly at the halfway point of that can. Already I had already covered enough ground to feel like okay. This feels like the length of a triple, a story driven game and the events that were taking place. Seemed like they were about to wrap everything up. And then it shifted gears very rapidly. And I, I can't I can't really elaborate on anymore without saying yeah, literally what I'm talking about, so we'll get into it on the spoiler cast, but like. It sets up expectations that it. Completely defies. Pretty quickly. Is a big part of why people think that game is so long because it just like. I don't think they were trying to be intentionally misleading, but there are parts of the way destructor. The do feel kind of misleading I guess. Doubt. That's. That's all I can say that actually you know. What I'm saying. I I didn't stories do that all the time right? Just like well. We're here. Await. Everything just went wrong and got a goal. There is a very specific well-known game that I could compare this right now and I. Think you would get exactly what I'm saying I. Think some phone, the power where you the tower. Actually in the other world and you're stealing their energy. Man I'm in the world and a rabbit, but I need to find a mirror and what guys? Play the first one I've ever been around for a while. No got the PS. Four version I think I'm ready to. Take the plunge I would I would be interested to hear what you think of it now..

Well I think that's part of the thrill I mean for the service. Will you go for the for the at-home ambience literally at his home? All right guys prelude to this story last night after midnight. I'm leaving the heart factor studio in Austin Texas and I heard what was clearly a very loud very bad car crash down the street so I jumped in my car and sped to what I assumed would be a horror scene ready to pry open. Rip off a car door just like I was like just like I gotta get here this. I heard it too but then I said that's probably not mark marks on the one. I went to that. And he just didn't care marks. Your turn turns later out of the neighborhood and I see that I was right. It was a horrible crash course totaled and I immediately went to help on luckily very very luckily no one was injured. Amazingly it was to one car male drivers one kid eighteen and one guy in his thirty's eighteen-year-old pulled out without looking onto a road that that's a forty mile an hour speed limit and got t-boned by an SUV damn And and it was on the driver side took his car all the way down to basically the steering wheel. He was about three inches away from losing his life. I tried to help him move his car off the road and I smelt the very strong odor of wheat. I advised the eighteen year old. That while we'll try trying to help him out and moving half of his car off the side of the road so no one else would get an accident that I smell weed on him and told him the cops are on their way. So you know He might not have heard me. He was ninety pound. White Kid blasting hilarious trap music that we me and the other victim screamed to turn the fuck down. He was active. Put his car into neutral. So we can move up to the chorus destroyed that the only thing you can do is put his music back on system. Still works system still works bro? So long story short. Everyone's okay but the cops arrive in. The first thing they ask was were you drinking. And he said no but just smoked a blunt of. It's a bad bad. Ants smoked a blunt of. We told him to ditch the weed. I didn't what pat I would never advise anyone to commit a crime so now. Let's kick it to the North Reading Beach where Jonathan W connors was arrested for his Fourth Dui after miserably failing field sobriety tests police reports said. He reeked of booze as well. He was high as fuck so everyone stop driving drunk and high. Please just get a lifter uber. And general though don't tell police your highest fuck or just smoked a blunt after. Tobin your car and almost killing someone. If they don't ask you yeah the the kid in that story he could have just said lost control. The car and everything would have just been fine. He needed to learn a life lesson because he almost killed people. But I mean West. How much how much you would you have paid to to watch from afar? Mark handling that situation well. I was a lot cucumber. I know you were calming. Both of them down and I was the only one moving the car the place I was giving advice the meeting. I smoked a cigarette with thirty year old. He shook my head and he was like. You're such a good guy. I was like a fucking piece of shit. I know we saw that guy get hit by a car in front of less than than he immediately started super deal. You're not a hero in the store. Hey No somebody's got warrants when they run away from getting crushed have traumatic brain injury one or the other. Yeah something like that all right. We're doing great on time. Fellas banks will. I'm very nervous. Heroes in this neighborhood thank you. You can have it all right next up. We've got a custodial parent double in Florida so I up a man involved in a high speed chase in okaloosa county. Florida used a baby as a human shield while he sat inside his car where the cops at pulled him over on interstate. Ten as part of a custody dispute he was going through with Scotto his better half. How do you mean Human Shield What's that how do you mean human? Shield like he was pulled him over. Like hey you need to get out of the car. You're in a custody dispute and he just shoved the baby in between himself and the cops and it was like he was covering. He's covering all deathshot. That Guy's playing chess head and chest. Maybe he was just really proud. Yeah that's good for the kid chugging. Look how good he looks. Good at the cops. They didn't think he was showing them. They thought he was on drugs so they had the remove a baby from a druggie special task. Force arrive handle that situation and then they got thirty one year. That's you know I if you're if you're in the hospital and you solve the nurse dope you up so once. Oh yeah assuming he grabbed. Thomas could can attest to this but like nurses get assault. That's true people. Dead People like this dude come rolling. Yeah for sure. I would've loved to have seen the The get get the baby from the druggy task force because you know that COP has long hair. That's the chill undercover cop. They bring like just. She's like overcame his his desire to use the baby's a shield. I guess and just took it from him and then they were able to. I mean that's a fun does yours now. Nurses are like the the Er version of like a a cable companies call center person so they get all the brunt and they don't deserve it. Yeah they're trying to help. Good analogy right asking national nurse as is true. Nurses deal with a lot all right next up. In the custodial corner of Florida custodial parent who had had enough or maybe non-custodial. I don't know of the Marion County Department of Children and families back in November. He had had so much tried to burn it down with eight. Molotov cocktails while he was drinking a twelve pack of beer that he had convince somebody to buy him the gas and the beer at a nearby gas station and then there was somebody watching him. Just Yuck Beers and Molotov cocktails what do you. What do you need eight cocktails? You're gonNA tell you this giant building so I guess he knew he is a bad throw..
