"Whose name was peach way but if that was you and Molly Shannon I was kind of racy for its day yeah I don't know if you get away with that today I don't know I I imagine you know what what what about warns relationship with that schedule and he said he's such a staunch defender of the motivations of characters and what's so great is that the characters had no idea it was dirty we that's what makes it funny is that they're so naive about what's happening they are such earnest you know radio host NPR right you know academic they would never even think of the context evidence so actually the standards and practices back in the day the NBC people were going bananas that would air before midnight right they were they were certain rules they're probably still RD can say certain things before and after midnight without getting in trouble and and more far really hard and successfully to to air it right out of the gate because the schedules really successful and he basically was like they they don't know what's thirty the whole idea of double entendre it works more the more they don't know the better the comedy plays and so that was kind of his logic which I have always been really grateful for Julia Louis Dreyfus she was interviewed by Stephen Cole bear the other night she said that several I was a sexist environment brutal kind of a toxic work place did you find that to be the case now I mean I mean it's it's changed my life in the most possible every possible way I mean my best friend from the shore entirely the female cast now so you know I mean look every workplace has evolved since nineteen ninety and significantly across America I think and every place looks really different and and twenty nineteen twenty twenty that's it back then but but I certainly you know experience enormous opportunity there so you know in spite of my gender because went in I don't know I was curious when when does it occur to you when your cast member SNL it's time to move on and try something else well so I I was crazy with my daughter my final season my sixth season and my daughter Francis and you know there have never been a pregnant cast member and there's never been a new mother on the show and I did kind of feel like Billy nine fireman was could be a drag as a mother that with a little tiny baby and I've done six years are felt really good about where my work was more was great it was like one to hang around with you know you don't have to write but I you know as a writer performer I think and I wouldn't have felt comfortable just sitting back and letting other people wait for me at that point in my life and and so that was my decision I think everybody's is different I think each person has their own kind of what's cool about it is the variety and environment and so you know whatever you're pursuing is is this the sort of individualized I I had done the Rocky Horror show on Broadway final summer yes I had a sense that I kind of you know I'd started schools I'd started my career as a vocalist I'd given it up when I've done comedy and then as I did Rocky Horror I really enjoyed the discipline and I really enjoyed vocalizing everyday and I thought that maybe I should double back down you know I was in my mid thirties with a good time to get back to like kind of rigor around my voice and and that's when I started that's one addition for wicked I did a bunch of musicals in a row and it's three penny opera and I did passion the the fun time pieces that in Chicago it it's funny girl that it's put in Pittsburgh I did a bunch of musicals the kind of like go from being a like casual jogger to Amerikaner pretty quickly I think there's no other way to do it than to do in a week vocalizing daily in singing delivers his muscular the muscular turn of the voice it's totally transformed so for me it felt like the timing and then you know and then I got kind of tired of the like the the the the the Broadway routine can get very rigid and them that I'm sort of both things I'm all for this kind of losing is a comedian so it's kind of fun because the act but I do now is very much sort of like right down the middle I just want to mention before we run out of time is that name you're out Mr Gramm boozing you'll be appearing December eighteenth the rich field the Playhouse and ritual gasket and December twentieth and twenty first at Joe's pub here in the city yep a lot of fun and thanks yeah great albums sugar and booze ana Gasteyer thanks a lot for joining us and sure bye bye bye bye all right when we get back how much would you pay for a bottle of Scotch now we're gonna have the recap of all the.
Twice as many live with multiple sclerosis than previously thought, research says
"Multiple sclerosis is a mysterious disease but we recently learned something new about it something big we now know nearly one million people live with MS in the U. S. that's twice as many as previously thought com was Molly Shannon explains why that number is so significant Morgan Smith is one of the nearly million people in the United States who lives with multiple sclerosis and she lives in a hot bed the Seattle area scientists don't know why but the four other people live from the equator the higher the MS numbers still it took two years for doctors to sort through all her symptoms and make the diagnosis my first reaction was relief as I was getting dismissed by so many doctors and I I finally had it the answer Daddy answer led to treatment for her vertigo the tingling in her hands and feet her bouts of sudden weakness and fatigue they are symptoms many MS patients are able to hide the national MS society says we all likely know someone with him as a friend and neighbor so seeing the number of patients go from four hundred thousand people in the US to nearly a million isn't a surprise but it is a call to action but when we're advocating for people in our state and local governments for better access to transportation or respite care for care givers those numbers give us more solid footing for asking for what people need it means more research dollars too right now against like annual MS walks provide much of the money for research and support just six days after she was diagnosed Morgan and Nick went to their first MS walk and it next urging they got married under the finish line arch pledging to take on her MS together I am able so I will and so there's things that she may not be able to do that I can take on and I'm a hundred percent okay without regular exercise and good nutrition along with medication help Morgan controller symptoms with imass her future is uncertain but as we learn more about the disease and the number of people living with it she is optimistic for confident there will be a key here within my lifetime

"And it's a boy Benjamin. Alan Cohen, born February fourth mazal, Andy can I say Eric you called it you call the name. I did. I mean, you didn't know the name was Benjamin. But you wisely pointed out while we were talking Darren, which we recorded Monday that in Jewish culture, it is common to name a child after the grandparents. Yes. And I did try to do some research on Wikipedia. I tried to look up Andy's parents names, and then in turn his grandparents, but I didn't get the information in time. But then like an hour later the baby was born. And now looking back there and did slip a little bit. Because we were like what are Andy's grandparents name? She's like, I I only know one of the like, how do you know? And she also when we were done recording almost slipped again when she we were like can't wait to meet the baby. She was like, yeah. Can't wait for you guys to eventually never mind. She was going to say baby Benjamin right while. Not only that. But we have more Bravo baby news. The real house is Potomac. Ashley Darby is pregnant Cass. She and her husband Michael Darby are expecting their first child together. We even have a video of them together on the site. So will include Lincoln, the description and muzzle to them. So this week to talk all things babies and baby showers were joined by Darren carp, Andy's longtime assistant, plus we'll go through the latest big episodes of the real housewives of New Jersey Vander pump rules the below deck reunion. Plus as always our Rosenthal. Born my favorite. We have an exciting guest Darren carp who is Andy Cohen's chief of staff co host of martinis and murder. You guys know that podcast. She's here like what a just a position of titles. Right. I'm chief of staff when I'm also talked about murder and get paid to drink. Like do. I have the best job where the luckier person. Best job ever. I really liked the guys like I felt like we we're on like NPR SNL like, Alex and Molly, Shannon. Rob welcome. You're having me. Excited guys. Lots of exciting stuff at Bravo recently. Yes, obviously, the first thing that we wanted to talk to you about today, Andy's baby shower. What do you mean, you are on the ground? You are posting Instagram's story after Instagram story. I mean ground zero what was it like, I didn't even realize I don't think anyone predicted. It was going to be like that. Like, I thought it was literally going to be like a sit down dinner. I found out at the start that we weren't opening gifts. Thank god. Because that would have just been like a nightmare people so many people like hugely competitive with each other. Like, it was just I mean, no one expected to where it was going to go. I mean like so well decorated at the start they had this. They I there was no mention of babies, which I also that was hilarious. They had a photo booth in the back that I didn't even do and I'm lavour of Ota both that had rattles. And like it's a boy like no one was there. And they had a guy who's doing like beauty portrait's on vinyl records or whatever. So you could get your portrait done mine. Kind of looked like Kelly Ripa? Ask, but you get it done like vinyl sleeve, and then just like order passed around. I had no idea what to expect in it. I when I was Instagram, and they're all my highlights because I got so many people to ask me to put them to my highlights. It was kinda tame like it was fun seeing the different cities interact in them playing their stereotypes. You know, what I mean, like jersey just wanted to party with Dallas? It was just so great. And then got nuts all hell broke loose took the my yet just like went on from there. I mean, John Mayer stop by Jerry O'Connell was there with Rebecca romaine, an I had nothing to do with the planning despite with it was actually the OJ..

"And drew Tarver as to something siblings in New York who are struggling in their respective careers. And all of a sudden, they're thirteen year old brother becomes an overnight YouTube singing sensation, and they are trying to deal with his sudden fame, and how how useless they feel in their lives. It is written and created by Chris Kelly, and Sarah Schneider who were head writers SNL for awhile. There's lots of people who pop up in cameo roles. This thing is filled with jokes and even the throwaway jokes. You'll wanna keep I'm trying to turn the review I'm doing from just listing all the great jokes that I love because that would be terrible the family stuff works because Molly Shannon, plays their mom. That's great. And the struggling to get by New York stuff works, but mostly and I think most of the the hardest needle for this series to thread is the satire about social media and YouTube because if this was any other writers with this was a typical Hollywood writers room. I think it would just feel broad and dated and they're much smarter about it. They're much more clever about it. It's actually really really funny. That's the other two on comedy central starting Thursday, January twenty fourth. Thank you very much Glen. Well, then Chris Klemm what is making you happy this week. Well, we got her first big snow of the season this weekend. Something about being snowed. In makes me wanna watch old black and white movies. So I looked at over the weekend forty guns, which is a Sam fuller western from the late fifties. It was Barbara stanwyck last big starring role. It is a specimen of one of my favorite things, which is a document that was very progressive in its time that looks very regressive now, but having Barbara Stanwick running this this criminal gang in the old west and being this this powerful woman, who of course, over the course of the movie is you know, deprived of of her her. Power is the element that does not really hold up. So well today, but this film, the the criterion edition that I watched it also features as an extra a documentary called a fuller life made by Sam Fuller's daughter Samantha fuller, just a few years ago in this film consists of various actors who have been in his movies people like Mark Hamill, and Jennifer beals, and the people who like you have been out of the limelight. Just enough that's kind of cool to see them again. And also directors like VIN vendors and Joe Dante and James Franco for some reason, even though he doesn't fall into any of those categories. They are reading excerpts from Fuller's memoir and sometimes they're on camera. It's not a voice over. But those those also sync to clips from from Fuller's movie from across his entire filmography where you sort of see how he interpreted the the real life experience that he's describing in in his prose into a, you know, a fictionalized film acc- interpretation. The title of the documentary is a fuller life. It is included on the criterion edition, Blu Ray of forty guns. Thank you very much. Chris clinic, we were in Brooklyn nece pass. Weekend as you're hearing this for our live show. And thank you to all of you who were there. It was a truly fantastic crowd. Thanks to Brittany loose and Eric Eddings from the nod who were with us for that show fantastic time, and while we were up there. I managed to get a ticket for a show that as you hear this is about to close on Broadway, which is my Burghley as the new one. And although it is about to close. I am telling you about it because my hope is it will eventually show up on on Netflix or something of that sort and you'll be able to see it..

"While she was writing the buck geno joins me to talk about that experience and also about her undeniable chemistry with john kocinski sneaking into an snl party to meet molly shannon and why she never visited her neighborhood movie theater so pull up a chair and listen ill hi jenna icao thanks for doing this sank you for having me well you know as we were talking about before we started rolling the cameras i met you briefly around season 3 of the office and it's funny how time has just flown by because i still think of the offices sort of it was just on yeah but it's been what 12 15 years and she started that show it's almost fifteen years since we started it it's such an amazing thing i think especially when you're on a television show the recorders weekly over that many seasons yeah how you become sort of ingrained in people's minds as that person and and yet you know sense that show you have gone on to do so many things you've done a sean sky you mean the apocalypse done several films did brad status which i loved it so good so good at and now you've got to show coming out on abc yes called splitting up to gather yes with all of our hudson you did a clint eastwood film and your roof this book which i wanted to start with the book because i feel like i'm not an actor i don't have aspirations to be an actor and i read your book thinking okay maybe this is just going to be a book about how to be an actor but most acting books are about finding the character understanding motivation or or discovering a method or a process that leads you to embodying a narrative in your book seems to literally it's like a nuts and bolts approached acting plus this amazing autobiography and i i was just floored by your book kiel the original inspiration for the buck was that i wanted to write a resource that i wish i had when i started so you're writing in almost two year younger self i was i was writing it to the girl back in missouri who was going to get in a car and drive to la and did not know what she was driving into it right.
