And we also have on this very special guest, Bob Curly, and he's the author of 100 Things to Do in Rhode Island before you die. Now, Bob is one hell of a guy got to meet him recently. He's a freelance travel writer and guidebook author was written exclusively about his current home state of Rhode Island. His work has also appeared in hundreds of print and online publications, including Rhode Island Monthly. Providence Monthly. Newport Life Coastal Living off our U. S. A today And four Seasons magazine. When he's not off exploring. He lives and his lakeside cottage with his wife, dog cat in several very large raccoons. Bob, That's awesome. I got tell you, this gentleman is down Earth. He knows his stuff. He also wrote a book about the Caribbean which will have you on at another time about that. But, Bob, Welcome to the show. Love having you here. Yeah. Great to be here. Thank you very much. You're welcome. Records came with the house. So that was good. Yeah, literally. And then they eat trash, So they're low maintenance. Yeah, I get it. So, Bob, you know, 100 things to do. And right now, who knew Rhode Island had 100 things to do? I mean, this book is just jam packed. First and foremost, I mean, what can Why did you choose to write this exact book? What inspired you to do this? You know, I didn't grow up here. I grew up in New York. But I've been here about 30 years and I just It's kind of the same reaction you just had, right? I mean, you figure a small state, There's not that much to do. Whatever. Once you start wandering around this place a little bit, you find that there's there's so much so much history. Somebody quirky things, you know, pizza strips. You know Dell's lemonade. You know, there's there's a lot of cool food. A lot of cool local culture s. Oh, yeah. I mean, it just ended up being a real journey of exploration for me. And I mean, 100 things were a snap. Really? To get 100. I could have done 200 so Lots to do here. Hard out. Yeah, That's awesome. So I mean, as somebody who has traveled all over the world, Okay. I mean, what is it that Rhode Island has That's so unique and so different from everywhere else and Bob Curly's words. No one of the things I was talking about. I do write a lot about the Caribbean and you know you get down there and there's an island mentality. And, you know, everybody knows everybody. And and you know, even though it redounds, not an island. It has that same mentality. Where it really you know, If you grow up here, you know, it's like two degrees of separation. On. But people you know one thing about Rhode Island, especially coming from New York coming from Long Island where I grew up like everything's just been paved over. You know, I mean, this the history you can't find it. Here. People cherish it. You know, people don't don't you know you got it Got it Got buildings from the 16 Hundreds here, you know, people fall in love with their local restaurants. And they, you know, so they stay around forever. You know, one of the things I found when I wrote the book was Hartley's pork pies up in up in Lincoln, which has been there forever, You know, so I'm still even though I've written about Rhode Island for for 20, plus years, I'm still finding new and stuff. I love it Now. I want to go around with the guest we have on the show. I went mad beats. I want Matt Bates moving words. I want you to tell us what is your favorite destination. Secret location best kept secret. You think here in Rhode Island's Um, uh, I'm uh I'm a huge black eye on fan. Um, uh, but I like that Stay off like the you know, being passed like another. The back half of the island where it's very, uh It's very quiet and relaxing and beautiful, Dad. Well, little waste this That is an island that you kind of get the Caribbean failed because there's a lot of like, come on, come up from the Caribbean to work there. So, um, yeah, it's I really good black eye on and summertime such place to get away. Bob, I think you have the Mohegan Bluffs in here. That's him. Block Island, isn't it? Yes. I mean, one of the things about the book is you've got some stuff in there. That's your sort you on your typical tourist stuff like Mohegan Bluffs or water fire, you know, going to the Newport mansions in the wintertime, but I tried to do you know, stuff that really kind of appealed to me. So like Block Island, for example, riding horses on the beach, there's a rustic ride stables out there on the other side of the island. A quiet side of the island s Oh, that's in there. On D Other one is is going is looking for the glass orbs in the summertime. This artist named even Horton, who every summer basically, you know, blows a bunch of glass balls and hides them along the trail. The nature Conservancy trails out there and it's like, you know, people just flock out there to find them. You know, in any over this course this summer, he replenishes them a few times and it just You know, it just kind of one of those cool local things gets people out on the trails where it raises awareness of Conservation. So that kind of stuff really appeals to me this this this past summer I got I got real. Please take my my first flight from Westerly airport to Block Island, which is about it. A 7 to 10 minutes late, and I don't think I'll get on the ferry ever again in this so called to get the place to go. You know the new adventure now, so you know, I didn't know you could do that. For all the years I've been around Um, my girlfriend brought me and I was like, Wow, This is pretty cool. That's a great time. So if you just if you're just tuning in, this is the DiSpirito team Real estate. Shall I'm Amelia DiSpirito, local Rhode Island real estate agent part of my favorite part of real estate..
