"Wreck on westbound 3 60 just before Mo Pack has cleared up. However, there's heavy congestion on South found 35 from 12 Street to 38, a half street. We also got some slick streets out there, so please drive safe. I'm Melissa Rosen Teller with Austin's on time traffic. 4 15 on a Wednesday afternoon on news radio K. L. B. J. This is sports talk with Jason and Vito sitting in for them, Nick hide and then claim it's Texas drops the double nickel last night on Colorado, winning 55 to 23 in the Alamo Bowl back to back champions, the Texas Longhorns or how about that? What if they're gonna make the eligible to general? You might as well put it dropping on your opponent? Absolutely. And look, here's the takeaway is there are lots of the tractors. You sit there and say, Yeah, that was Colorado. What are you doing? Don't Why are you dumping your chest that win? But if Texas Is at the level that it's fans clearly think it should be at. That's what happens in that game, and that's why your ex like that to me, it's not. What What basically happened last night is also is all those things were It's what didn't happen. I didn't see the defense confused. I didn't see them out of place. I saw them aggressively tackling getting two guys behind live scrimmage, and when they were tackles like there's always you know, there's three or four guys and ever involved in every player. All right there. That's the stuff that I love to see it, and that's what you should take away from his like. Hey, this is us playing up to the level that we were supposed to be played. And so let's let them have their moment. Let's enjoy it and say yes, all things are as they should be. Yeah, I mean Damar beyond over, Shown the linebacker for Texas defensive M v P. Last night, he put on a clinic between getting the tackles getting they quarterback, quarterback rushes and reception interception. Alfred Collins, the true freshman five star Impact player of the game made maybe the greatest interception we've seen. In college football this season, a definitely one of the top plays this season. I mean, that might be. Is that the play of the Alamo Bowl where he had he started blitz. He saw the screen coming, took a step back somehow got his composure and was able to intercept the ball and stay on his feet. It was one handed one of the wildest place I've seen this season, but he is one of the brightest spots in this Texas a future and their team and Would you know? I'm not gonna I'm not gonna stand here. This it was just Colorado. It was Colorado. It's a terrible team. It's Pac 12 football. Who cares? Texas had their backup quarterback in last night. They had not had not really prepare. Obviously had not prepared for that. They were prepared for same, Alan. Good to have, you know the kind of well deserved. Goodbye game that we're expecting to see. But the adversity Texas went to last night was something that you know they really had overcome. And Casey Thompson. He stepped up and prove that he could lead this Texas team and the next chapter of their program. I mean, the curtain from wrong, but it was 17 to 3.5, right. Yeah, and I mean, like, that's that's not a decided came in any moment when you come back out there you found. Hey, we don't have your senior leader. The guy that we also go into this is like, what is your biggest advantage in this game is his senior, his experiences leadership. You would have you returned 2 to 1 of your young rookie quarterbacks like that's that's an amazing performance like that's based everybody. Everybody on that roster rose to the occasion in my mind, and and that's what was great to see. So there are two questions Now. That remains the Texas Longhorns, eh? Will say Mallinder return for another year. His eligibility is going to be around for one more season of the Texas Longhorns, and he has every right and every opportunity to come back. So that is the think heavies question that needs to be answered this offseason to this Tom Herman deserve to stay in head coach because, yes, they get the win last night, but He was still get a lot of flak last night for his usage of his star running back be John Robinson and his criticism for the way he went about the season. Really not utilizing be John all season long and another question is could Texas had had could Would they have had two more wins? If be John was the sole running back? Well, I mean, they would have had the win against TCU. Because be John. The cheon to even without have been in there too. Some of that ball so you could you could say yes. I mean, just the fact just the way that that changed the offense. It has to let you believe that they were not. They would not have had these creatures to the other counterpoint to the argument if you had, like, Oh, the 31 score losses. These people point out to you only had their several winds that were only by a mountain, You know, so not only would you have won some games, but you would have been even more dominant in the games that you did win. Ideally, hopefully yeah. February 51283605 90. The phone lines are open. Give us a call and let us know what you thought about last night's game the same a longer stay another year, just Tom Herman. Continuous the head coach. Does he deserve it? Does he get the shot next season? Last night? It was just so apparent. How dominant be John Robinson is and how much the monster he's going to be next year and Good Lord, who knows how good he's gonna be there By the time he's a junior, he really could be one of those once in a generational type, guys where He There's no stopping him. Yeah, I saw flashes of Ricky Williams flashes of Cedric Benson last night. He was like, I thought he was more of a hybrid between a Ricky Williams and Jamal Charles. He has the speed and the quickness and the first step Jamal Charles, but he also he could take a hit like Ricky could. Yeah, it's Jamal Charles this Jamal Charles, his ability to score from anywhere on the field. Combined with the size of Ricky's sentimentally, Jimmy Cedric Benson is the comparison. Knowledge because of their size and in all that, But also just because, you know, I remember when Cedric was a freshman, everybody was like, Hey, where you going to play subject when you can only Cedric. And so I took it till after Oklahoma finally seems at events like that. Yeah, that That's the thing. Um The other thing with with the Tom Herman. Yeah, I think that he deserves the right to do it. But there are like Remember when there was a time where Mack Brown was the guy who couldn't win the big game, and he couldn't get over the hump with Oklahoma, and it took him several years of Texas to get through them to figure it out. And I think that's pretty with Tom Herman. Is the easiest way to explain what was going on with with not playing be John and other questionable things. Because remember Sam Gallagher when he was a freshman, they split tie. He split time with Shane Buechele on You're kind of like, Hey, like, like Chez Michelle was a great quarterback if they had stuck with him, and he was a starter. I think he would be right up there with the stats that Sam did, but it just like, Hey, will you just pick one of these Jews and I think Tom just needs to sit there and like, hey, whether it's trusting in your decisions. Are just committing to your You know your studs like he just needs to sit there and kind of get his head a little bit and just go with it. I think he set up up like great to do that next season. Let's give the phone lines. Let's go to.

You think there's a sliver that this was intention of no idea we have. No, That was my point. We have no idea. The driver unfortunately, is dead. So I'm gonna assume that was it was an accident. That zah great. That's a That's a safe assumption. Yeah, that makes sense. Well, I mean, we have had occurrences around the world where drivers have driven into people intentionally, So I don't think I don't think it was an act of terrorism but anyway You just you gotta You gotta watch it out there. "We really appreciate you. Setting your alarm clock to right now. And do it every day Lutely, absolutely priorities. Straight absolute just a couple of minutes away from the rush updates. But today, the gov- Lieutenant governor and speaker of the house here in Texas plan to raise the sales tax to help pay for property tax relief. And it's expected to come up one at the state capital Rice University political science, Professor, Marc Jones, doesn't think there is much support for this idea virtually every democrat is against it. Because they've you it as a regressive tax and Republicans were very fiscally conservative view it for what it is which is a tax increase tax increase. So the Republicans don't like it. It's kind of a regressive tax. It may affect the poor people even more than others. So the Democrats don't like it taxes and school finance reform will be debated as representatives in the state house, and the Senate are scheduled to meet in a conference committee to hash out the budget. That's how it works to raise your taxes to lower your taxes pretty much. I it's like, okay. You know, I don't think I'm gonna feel it. So I'm just along for the ride here just kind of keep up going on. But I don't think any of us are really realistically expecting that. Our lives are going to that. We're going to breathe easier. Financial everybody listening has a healthy dose of doubted skepticism that taxes are going to go down that they're going to see any kind of relief when it comes to school funding when it comes to lowering your property taxes. You're you're never going to see a smaller number when that Bill comes in the mail. I'm just wondering if that's ever happened in the history of the country where taxes have gone down to the point where people really felt it has had happened. The question should also be okay. So we don't think our taxes are going to go down. Are we getting bang for our buck Araj in good shape? Our border secure. Do we have great public schools is everything working when I waiting to plan when I'm driving southwest Parkway every day in my car's getting beat to hell because it's become such a treacherous horrible horrible. Roy. Road. Yeah. It's hard to justify what I'm paying intact that this at the city of Austin south. Yeah. The county it, well, it's both the stretch from mo- pack up to the boulevard that city is that that's the nice road. No, no, no. For from the nice road is county. Nice road is Barton creek boulevard to seventy one. That's where it's pristine. That's where it's it's so quiet. You could take a nap while you're driving taking care of the road. Exactly. But the city owned part you've driven it. Yeah. We talked about it. Sure. It's Felicia as you so aptly put it. It's kind of like driving through downtown flus. It is during rush hour. So it's hard to feel good about what I'm paying in taxes. No, I don't feel like I'm getting bang for the buck man that situation. Let me ask you a question because we're going to have this coming up at six thirty five should people convicted of rape. Horrible crimes Bank robbery murder some of the most heinous crimes in the world. Should they be allowed to vote from prison? Those people convicted of those crimes somebody on death row. This guy were about to execute for that horrible killing in Jasper, Texas. Should he be allowed to vote Kamala Harris who wants to be the democrat nominee? She thinks that they should be allowed to vote specifically the Boston bomber should be allowed to boat. Can you believe this the guy just months ago placed a bomb in front of an eight year old boy and says he should be able to vote? We'll explain in her own words that's coming up at six thirty five for it. Man right now six oh nine at time. For the rush update, folks. Get this Washington Post headline DC house the homeless in upscale apartments. It hasn't gone as planned now. This story covers the upscale Sedgwick gardens apartment building in northwest Washington near fashionable Rock Creek. Park. It's listed on the national register of historic places. Now, here's where it gets good. A couple years ago, Washington DC housing officials fattened the pot of money available for rental subsidies. Their goal was to give tenants in high crime impoverished neighborhoods, a shot at moving out of there and moving into high end housing. What could go wrong? Well, some of these tenants moved into Sedgwick gardens directly from homeless shelters are the streets and big surprise. They brought their behavioral problems with them. Police visits to the building quadruple. There is smoking here feces in the stairways like in San Francisco there were so many complaints. The city started staffing the building with social workers longtime residents got the heck out. Now, who's idea was this? This is liberal thinking. This is liberal planning. This is liberal policy. This outcome is totally. Predictable. It would almost be hilarious. If it wasn't so tragic for the people who were forced out the people who are paying to be there..

"Mark simone. Our congress put together a fund of seventeen million dollars and paid off a number of accusers. Merola me too stuff, but they didn't declare it as a pain contribution. Always a headline ahead. Mr. New York, Mark Simone, ten new seven ten w o r. W r. Putting you back into the scored zone with Pete McCarthy. As you may know by now this Friday will be the final episode of the W O R sports zone in while we've spent a ton of time talking about the New York Mets and baseball interviews predominantly making up some of our favorite moments. MO packed full interviews on the show. I don't think anything touches the motion and gravity of the discussion that we had with a legendary jet earlier this year. Last year. Mark Gastineau came on the show and shared his frightening diagnosis of Alzheimer's dementia and Parkinson's disease stemming from ten year NFL career since then he's been part of many retired NFL players suffering from brain injury waiting for their part of the NFL concussion settlement, and it's been a long, wait, Mark his wife, JoAnne. Join me in studio to tell their story. I started by asking Mark how he was doing good good guess somebody on my left that is a wonderful person. He knows what he's doing in the. Right. That I wouldn't know what I would do. Never. And then I've got some money in front of me the nose baseball better name elephant as we talk with Mark Gastineau right now you wanted to come in and discuss the concussion settlement as it's going through the NFL. And of course, the retired players. The NFL agreed on a settlement is about a year and a half ago now for a billion dollars could go north of that the payments have been going out fairly slowly for players that have suffered traumatic brain injuries. And you informed us last year that you're suffering from dementia as well as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. What has your experience been trying to get what is yours as far as this settlement is concerned? You know? We are used to get hit so hard. Are you stick it? So hard. Those helmets used to break helmets. Peter. Oil asleep. Promise you in games in practice practice. Day out. And. Are used to walk to the other side lines. Pete. You cannot tell me that doesn't have an effect accumulative effect on a person. Yeah. Well, we've seen that with in so many of the C T E studies that have been done recently one hundred ten one hundred eleven NFL brains that were studied had evidence of CT. And have you been told that, you know, it was your NFL playing career that caused the brain issues that oh. And Jason Vic Savic is going to explain that. Okay. You know as far as my doctor. I know that when you're sixty one years old. You have those little are call them little league helmets in my helmet wasn't the same. Taking a one of those. Stick bats, you know in trying to play major league baseball now in hit a home run. With those helmets were not same. Mike Webster was a very good friend of mine now, Mike Webster, he usually every single time. You come off that ball. On the center is the center in when he came off that ball again. You're you're in trouble. Yeah. But you know, what Quaco annoy people new quarterbacks new. We came off that ball. Somebody was going to get hit in hurt. And you know, what we got hurt too. It's only one person win mass meets mass. You know, we're talking about major major major damage, and it's not just you know, when a player is down that he's hurt. This is the cumulative effect of play by play by play accumulate. You could walk off the field field fine. And then years later, these are the issues that have popped up accumulative is is such a key word here because it's time after time after time after time after time. You come in in nineteen. I came in nineteen seventy nine okay. I went down to the senior bowl. It was a it was a good thing. Because I got to go against all of the major colleges in east central Oklahoma. Nobody had ever heard of so anyway. You know, Greg Roberts. I hit him. You know, when we quiet that helmet shattered into into outer no twenty thirty pieces. Okay. And everybody took home. It was laugh. They were laughing because they said, you know, it's a little league helmet. Just a you know, it's just a small little league is. So, you know, we thought it was funny. And when I would bust helmets in the NFL. It was funny. Yeah. Yeah. No reason to think otherwise at the time for goodness. And. I don't blame the NFL. Because of the fact that I blame. You know, I'm not happy with the NFL now. You know, the NFL. No. I'm friends with the. Roger goodell. He. A year and a half ago. My wife's over to my right after you verify. So anyway, I saw you said Mark. He said, do you? Remember me being near ballboy? And I said, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I said, yeah. And he goes, do, you know, Mark you treated me, so good? He's treated me better than anybody. He goes if you need any if you need anything done now, this is Roger Goodell. No, I know that there's a lot of people to give him a hard time. But my experience with Roger Goodell now, this is a true fact was a good experience because he was my ballboy. You know, he said, listen, Mark, you said you really treated me. Well, and so he said if you need anything if you need anything. So now, I think to myself all these players are out there. They give these tests run, and I don't have a fly benign Dr. And I don't have a fly the night logger. No. They they know what they're doing. In fact, Jason mica Savic. I say because you know, I'm so happy that I can say now because I get last. But anyway, I am happy to know that he knows what he's doing. But you see. When you don't have people. That are in the NFL, even Roger Goodell. There are doing you. Right. Okay. It is. It's it's it's just confusing. It's not right. You know? It's not right. I mean my goodness. It's not gonna tell you. Sometimes I wonder if I can remember your name or I wonder if I can you know, my my brain. Okay. It's not the same. And I'm so happy that you know, Roger Goodell who just like that. Oh, I was just like thinking. I gotta I gotta remember remember Roger Goodell. Roger goodell. You know, that's not right. It's not right. You know? And I haven't been that way. All my life. You know? You know? I haven't been that way. I'm not why wasn't the smartest little cookie in in school. But you know, what I wasn't that way. And you know, I went through hours and hours of testing, and you know, what? What happened? What happened? You know is the the results came out Jason we'll Talia. Hey. It wasn't. It wasn't Mark is a, you know. No. He doesn't have anything. My wife. Okay. She. Go round and do yard work. But you know, what? She she does everything for me. You know? I know I swear to God. My church. You know, I think God I think God that I am the Lord in my life. You know, Pete seriously. Feet. It's not good inside. Good. Three four five. Good. Yes. And my wife would tell you. She helps me bad. You know, what he show me? Remember names? But you know, what I used to think all that? But you know, what Peter was nothing. You know, why? Because what happened to me, you know, and don't tell you this much. The NFL's wrong the NFL's wrong. They're wrong. I'm not telling them to give me zillions of dollars. I don't want zillions of dollars Pete. I just wanted to be treated with respect. Well, a more with Mark Gastineau on the other side is we look back on some of the most impactful moments in the.

"Eight forty six great to have you with us on the Todd and Don show. I'm Mark Caesar sitting in for Todd Jeffries. He'll be back on Monday. If you're just joining us. Don told the story at about eight twenty of his trip into work this morning, northbound Bo pack exit ramp to Cesar Chavez, he starts exiting. And all of a sudden he sees his tiny microscopic red dot out in front of him. Yeah. You're wondering what is right? And then you get to within about fifteen feet and realize that somebody on one of these little electric scooter Shan swerve, barely missing this person. Right in the middle of the exit. Right. Yes. And of course, we had this caller that I just spent twenty minutes worth it. I'll never get back. Trying to blame me because I was apparently going to fat. Yes, admitted that most likely I was gonna few miles over the speed limit. That was not the point the point. Is this scooter should not in any way, get in the way of a of a car, especially that time of night. You got that was a very dangerous situation. Chris is in Georgetown on KOA BJ. Good morning, Chris. Hey, listen. I had to pull off the side of the ROY. Oh, because my blood was boiling, like don's was because of last caller. And I have a sneaky suspicion, Don, she may have been the person writing the scooter, and he may he may still be drunk. I think. Maybe with the problem. I think the intelligence level was certainly on par with the person writing that scooter if it wasn't her. It was somebody very very close, very similar. Yeah. Yes. But I'll tell you something we've all discussed the issues in the way that people are riding them and stuff like that. I drive forever and at night always at night and on the weekends. Of course, people are drinking and they're having fun. I've seen five six seven eight scooters at a time there's dipping in and out of traffic and everything and the cops can't do anything about it because they're too busy worrying about the drunks and sixth street in that area. I don't know that there's any kind of a, you know, a solution. I don't think that it's going to be a long time before I think we can get rid of them. I think at the very least what they should do is either one only allowed them to be operated during daylight hours, pick them up, you know, drop them off when the sun comes up and pick them up. You know when the sun goes down. That way, you know, it's safer. There's there's a little more visibility. Even though people are not following laws. Like this lady thinks that they're supposed to be or the other option is to put them at a locking doc state docking station, just like the bicycles are because apparently the bicycles. If you don't return it to that docking station, you're continually charge. You can't just dump it anywhere. Right. So why not do the same thing with the scooters, and you have to return them to a specific place or you're going to continually get charged at least that way, they're not all over the city, and and they're trying to pick them up because I'm been out driving. They pick them up at at three or four o'clock in the morning, the one they're only picking up the ones that the batteries have died on they're not taking all of them up. So daytime hours only at the very very least is what we should be doing. Well, we heard from another rideshare driver very early this morning who said he was westbound on sixty getting near mo- pack. That's three lanes right there. And he said all of a sudden coming wrong way in the center lane was a lady on one of these little scooters rights Ewing against the traffic. She was going the wrong way on west sixth street, and they said it might have been last night when this happened as a matter of fact, come on you've got to be these things they're in no way. Can they share the road with an automobile? I would feel better about a bicycle being on the main lanes because bicycles they can go faster. These things have a governor. That's only going to let them go. So fast fifteen is what our caller says a bicycle would be able to get out of the way easier than it would have been able to get out of the way. Then that scooter this morning, I have talked to people who. I have told me that they've gotten those things up to thirty five miles an hour. So maybe fifteen but I mean, maybe thirty five miles per hour was a good charge. But you're absolutely right. I mean, it's just it's gotten out of control on know what we can do about it. But what I see just like the other rideshare driver said what I see is your at a four-lane stop. And all of a sudden from far behind somebody comes blasting through the four-way stop. I'm one of those students. I've seen them pass red lights on the four-way those scooters, and it's just you're right. It's out of control. And that's certainly not obeying traffic laws, and what this woman who called earlier. I really didn't want to look at again, the scooter was on mo- pack. This electric scooter was coming off of mo- pack. There's no other explanation. It was on the access ramp coming offer or the exit ramp coming off the seizure. Shabas? There's no other explanation that scooter was coming off a Pat, you know, no, we can't have that under any scenario. Chris. Thanks so much for that call in the woman who called Katie and challenge, Katie she said, she was on the vision zero task force here in Austin, which is seeking to eliminate all traffic debts in Austin, pedestrians, drivers, etc. I have no further questions for Katie. That's for sure she clearly Katie has an agenda that is there's no doubt about it. And she's willing to sacrifice any semblance of intelligence to get to the end. Here. Here were the numbers five one two eight three six zero five ninety you can call us. You can text us the text messages, you can read on the air, some I can read some I can't. But they're coming in market. Don that call was the perfect example of one of the problems entitled beyond compare. It is all about them the rule of the law. Does not.
