"Anyway it's on now and we're ready to talk about all the biggest news in the world the playstation including another playstation console exclusive. I have to add so many words to the word exclusive now because it's a very strange term these days but of course we're going to be talking about cannot bridge of spirits down that's out but will be staying a pretty spoiler free for these stories so if you're just jumping in or waiting to jump in we'll we'll dive into our thoughts on that but before we get into that in some other news. I'm during this week. I brian altana beyond beyond brand and mitchell saltzman. Janda hello good to see you both mitchell you of course reviewed qena and so we'll be dumped jumping in to a little bit of your thoughts on that but before we do. I want to throw a curveball to both of you. As i love to do so often and to get that. Good good Seo there's a nintendo direct this week if you would like to see one. Playstation character joins super smash brothers as the final smash brothers character. Who would be go ahead brian. Prado's good. I said from the beginning. That crash bandicoot absolutely needs to be in bros affinities the finish is like trifecta of having mario sonic and crash satan game so absolutely. It's gotta be crash. I would love to see that happen. It feels like it should have been an inevitable one industry or that. We're not there i. It was never in playstation all stars. Bowery also what happened there whenever all-stars to gets announced which of course we've been trying to make happen on the show We'll we'll definitely pitch our our our dreamcast for that game. I hope i hope it's the paddock ponds some that the patent upon and the pittman can go head to head has finally also never got their time in place sucks. It's anyway now that we've gotten out of the way for the. I can get into the words that i say vocally. It's fine. i don't think you can get seo off of like a few works. Jonathan audio pot. Like what. I don't look at an internet website and i'm pretty sure i know how. Seo works anyway. Joe biden okay. So the name of this episode is free playstation five. Yes that's gonna do it to save to save our butts when it comes journalists to kentucky veep. We'll put video as one word and two words just to capture both of the search and be able to get it Yeah of course we're going to be talking about Again to get that vocal. Seo depending on how you pronouncing it he nakano or qena. I believe it's qena bridge Which will will jump into one. Character does akina and the game though. I do have a little a little tiff with that. But anyways greg qena is now out on both yes for and he has five we Hopefully you've at home. As i said we're not gonna be jumping into a deep spoilers but anything that's been in trailers or things. We were able to discuss about a review. Some early impressions are going to keep a kind of contained to that but Mitchell as i had mentioned you reviewed qena. So why don't you give us sort of your top level off before we get deeper into discussion. Yeah i little thoughts. I like qena a lot It's it's definitely a lot of people have been saying. It's a throwback to like. Ps two era former for me. I really identified more with like the gamecube. Kind of the likes. Psycho commie star fox adventures. The three ds all the games. And while there definitely is that you know he has to. Ps three era mascot platformer element to it as well to me. It really hit those those notes of like you know going to an area finding a bunch of items or for that specific area learning about you know that areas specific are fighting a boss getting an upgrade though. Let's go onto the next area and even though it's open world you're kind of being guided into these different areas vary linearly which is great There's not that many games like this. Even though this was such a popular genre backing those those eras. So i if there's one thing i hope comes out of qena outside of just ember lab being you know this developer going forward that people get excited about whenever they announced something new. It's i hope we get more of these styles of games. Because it's it's kind of a relative the past that i think needs to be brought back and Yeah i really really love this game. I think you're go ahead. I was gonna say mitchell. I think you're spot on the we. We saw sort of like quiet renaissance three d mascot platformer over the last few years. This is not really that. I think you're completely in line with the truth here about this being more like a comedy or a light Actually a great comparison to although i'm not the biggest fan of that game. But i i think what. This game is doing a lot better. But i don't know i mean that's sort of just like a three d action adventure. You kind of linear game right like we don't get a ton of those anymore. Everything is either like a massive open world or we did get some sort of collective platformer over the last few years with the you know i leave. Ukulele is and stuff like that The this is more in line with that Sort of like yesterday. Gamecube era like urgent action game. And i really miss those. We used to get them a lot and like many things video games that just stopped appearing one day And you're you're totally right. I hope that this sells well. And i hope we get a sort of a resurgence of games like this. Because they're super cool. Things can be very cyclical. And i do like in a single year. We've gotten this site cannot end rash inclined to kind of bring me back to that era. That did sort of define games for me growing up and mitch. I think you're you're totally right in that aspect i can also very much. I'm curious to hear what you thought about it. I when the game was announced. This was of course revealed during the june playstation showcase last year for the reveal and certainly it was like this game cells immediately to an audience from the just how beautiful it is number. Lab of course has a history in animation in everything but after playing it. I'm near the very end up in the last couple of boss fights the the way it sort of mel's a lot of i think playstation bullet points when people talk about playstation games together also works really well like it does have that ration client collect the nature. It has that horizon bow and arrow combat. It has adorable creatures in like i. It's winning all these different games together into one. But i still really liked like i. I don't think it necessarily does any of those things in a brand new way. But i think it brings them together in a really great way..

"They brought to you by draftkings away and amazon music. But i'll tell you all about that later because we got some fun stuff to talk about gary. Let's see it's time for forever will be the roper report. The posted this show stories today doesn't exactly story number one. The qena bridge spirits reviews are in and it might not be what you expected everybody. Currently sitting at an eighty four on metacritic are full. Review is upright now on. I love you so you can get an on podcast services or youtube dot com slash kind of funny games. It was the cassius. I love you. So of course greg miller of course blessing at a junior aunt janik are they were joined by me and eddie cortes. So you've got a whole bunch of different thoughts about all of that stuff but if you want some more thoughts i've got him for you right here. I against mitchell saltzman gave it an eight out of ten saying it makes sense that in bad the developer of cantabria spirits started out as an animation studio just looking at this gorgeous world and picturesque character. Designs tells you that this is a team that is a ton of experience in making incredible digital works including their fantastic editorializing. A little bit here but yours mask. Fan film terrible fate. That if you haven't seen go on youtube right now check it out. It is stunning gorgeous. Beautiful add definitely sets the stage for what qena is about to bring deal bridge. Spirits gameplay doesn't quite match the extraordinarily high bar set by its visuals for a number of reasons including some bland. Storytelling in shallow progression. This three d. open world action adventure is still nonetheless an impressive achievement thanks to it's exciting deceptively simple combat and an excellent balance of action puzzle solving and platforming moving over to gamespot phil horne. Shot gave it a nine. In canaan bridge spirits everyday items are viewed with new unseen. Emotional significance wouldn't mask is linked to the spirit of the person for whom it was made objects like a construction hammer or box filled with food or tied to memories of the people who have been lost locations that were once the sites vibrant and happy. Times are scared scarred with the pain and trauma suffered within them. The interactions with the characters you find in each section the game help imbue the areas in and around the village with the character of their own and despite the fact that the place has been all but destroyed you can feel the life that once thrived there. It's about exploring the world seeing what it once was and helping to restore it again. Joaquin of bridges spirits is full of familiar feeling combat and exploration its ability to find different ways to look at those ideas makes for a beautiful emotional exciting journey and finally game. Informer's andrew reiner. The homie also gave it a nine.

"The best. Sonic games at least on intendo systems. The first new game boy advance game coming out in the last thirteen years and a whole lot more. I'm your host casey to fritos in this week. I'm joined by mitchell. Saltzman logo rhino tano. Hey what's up. I and logan plant. Welcome thank you all for joining me today. I do very much appreciate it. We've got mitchell. Reviewed sonic colors ultimate and logan. Who is a big sonic fan and bryant. Who's just a wonderful human being to talk about everything. Nintendo that you love. Thank you for being here. I still never talk to you. I know in such mother's before the show he said like buck all the time in the office and that we don't have an office anymore so we get to see a small accelerated version of once a month. And that's better you guys in the office even like it. Hasn't it's been even longer since i've tokyo. Because he went to los angeles along logan. I've never even seen you in person. No you might not even real. Maybe thank you for joining me. Let's start out with sonic colors. Ultimate game is coming out this week. Mitchell you're reviewed it gave it an eight out of ten and give us a small summary of what is new. what's different what's good about the sonic game. Yeah i mean what's good about sonic colors. It's some colors. This was a Asana game that. I really i really see as being like a turning point or the series really this is coming off of sonko six which i think is just you know the darcus point of the of soccer hedgehog. It's coming off of soccer hedgehog episode one or the had four episode one which was also kind of like a misstep in terms of where they wanted to to shift the two d. version of sonic so sonic colors came out. I think it really established a lot of the love. The mainstays of modern sam Sorry modern sonic. It introduced these new wisp power ups by the way as someone who just in a review for sonic colors. Wisps is the hardest word of say in in a review scramble. Sorry i just had to go off. Tangent i had too many retake on that script is very hard to say. It's impossible to not make it sound like it's three syllables sets and it's funny because in the game. Sonic actual when they're introduced to the west. Sonic actually turn to the camera. And says i'm just gonna call them aliens if that's okay with you so even sonic has trouble saying it but anyway colors. Yeah i. it's introduces the aliens. And i think that what it really does for the series is it. It adds this power mechanic that allows for a lot of variety the level design while still being able to maintain the momentum and speed that makes a game really really fun so it's the levels and sonic colors i think are some of the most interestingly designed and certainly most creative sonic levels i think throughout the whole series and yeah as far as what what ultimate ads you know. Obviously it adds better visuals. So you know all disclosure. I play this game on playstation five and did not play it on on the switch so the the visual quality that i played isn't going to be the same on the switch. I believed the switch only runs at thirty four seconds. It's not obviously four k. But even still sonic colors is a beautiful gorgeous game and it run on iran on thirty inches on the the we anyway so i think you're still getting a great experience on the switch but it also adds mc soundtrack it adds a rival rush mode. What else there's cosmetic upgrades they can get this new currency that you can find that allows you to buy like new. Loves new shoes you can customize your your boost effects so yeah there's a there's a good amount that's new. Might my only thing with the stuff that the added. It's that they don't really. They don't really add ord or detract from the overall experience. So i really think sonic colors. Ultimate is as good as it is on the way and not really much better That's kind of my only real teak about about this game but yeah that's that's color colors if you haven't played it by highly highly recommend i. I do think it's one of the best examples of modern. Sonic they can play so my biggest question is if someone has already plays on a color on the we originally came out in two thousand ten would it be worth aquinas up again and replaced it I think it depends on on why you wanna replayed if this is a game that you you haven't visited a long time and honestly you have your we stuck in storage and you just don't feel like you know bussing it out and just the place on a colors Yeah you know. I think it's it's worth it's worth replay and worth the another purchase. But you know if you have your we it's easy to access and you know you have. Sonic colors already installed. No you don't. There's no reason to to buy this again. If you're if all you really have to do to play. Sonic colors is just you know. Turn on your we and start playing. There's there's not really much here that will make a makes the experience a must buy for anyone who who already has or is already you know is already sick of sonic colors and yet you probably still buy it because that feels like the running theme with the nintendo's like you have this game already it's probably five feet from where you're sitting right now but what if you could buy it again on a portable y- they remixed the red coin location so it's not like the exact same game that you play on the switch and they added a new power called the date. The whiz or j. Go swiss rather and what that does is basically allows you to go through walls and attach yourself to anchor points and it's really only used for or coin collection puzzles. It's not really used for anything super exciting. So it's not again. It's it's not a reason to to get the game if if you've already played the heck out of side colors and you're already sick of it. Said you know there are some new aspects to it that you know depending on how.

"Is podcast beyond ideas weekly playstation show and weekly. Return of the jedi spoiler cast. Of course we're diving deep into the show that we were all talking about research this episode of during this week by brian altana. I still don't know why. The rancor keeper pride like that but it's one of the most heartbreaking moments in the whole film bergen spend a roughly about twenty minutes later on that. So i wanna joint. We're joined this week by mitchell. Saltzman everyone angel and also joining us. This again taylor lyles teller. Thank you so much for joining us as well. Thank you for having me door and tell her especially. Thank you little peek behind the curtain lucy. O'brien was going to be on this week's episode But there's massive construction happening at her apartment building so last minute. She had to duck out and taylor gracefully jumped in at the last moment. So thank you for hopping until last minute. I appreciate it. We are no problem. I guess you could say. I'm the real mvp today that's that. Please read. put that as tellers lumber third for before we go on just briefly. Say thank you to everyone who tuned in for our games come episode we recorded it before it aired but it was live during a whole games. Come show thank you to everyone who tuned in for the entirety of the games com coverage that show is obviously a huge undertaking for the entire aegean staff and a ton of work went into it across the board. So thank you. Everyone who tuned in for that as well and i also wanted to just say thank you to everyone for the podcast beyond fans who have been talking to twitter on twitter recently for the last couple of days. Just thank you everyone. There's been a lot of kind support for the show. Just wanted to say thank you because you all are wonderful and we love making the show for you Before we get into the topics for this week which are gonna include a playstation plus games. Some more elden ring. Out of follow up on mitchell's handoff preview. And if you ever things. I did briefly also want to put out a call for more memory. Heart stories have a few left in the that who used to go back through and make sure i didn't miss a please continue to send some more in and preferably keep them a little bit shorter I i read every story that we get. Some of them are amazing but some of them have been like college essay level length. And we just probably can't read that long on the show. I can. I appreciate so much people sharing that we're just for the sake of brevity and time if you can send something a little shorter basically if you've gone past the double spaced age onto far on the long one and then also have the t. l. Dr version at the bottom under. Yeah like if you if you want to share that story with us. We're grateful to that really really appreciate the candor and honesty that everyone shared with these just in terms of sharing them on the show. We want to make sure we can you know crystallize them in and get them out there for the audience. So appreciate if you're willing and able to do that but other than that i think that's all the housekeeping for the beginning of the show. Let's jump in before we get to the return of the a discussion of course Let's in briefly. Wanted to mention This month station. Plus games were announced The day according this they include overcooked. All you can eat which for. ps five. That is the overcooked bundles. So it includes overcooked one and two and a few other of the pack and things like that and then for ps four and that of course He has five backward. Compatibility is hitman to and predator hunting. I'm so this is a pretty heavily third party obviously month for it. I think if you've missed out on any of those games it's a pretty wide selection and so hopefully. There's something that appeals to you. It's definitely sort of an odd mish. Mash of things Brian i'll just thirty quickly. What would you feel about the this month's games I'm i'm into it actually. I mean i personally have all of them. So it's kind of a bummer. For me but if you have been on the fence about getting any of these. This is a great opportunity. Just been a overcooked. We everybody has said enough about this game. But it's worth saying more time that if you are looking for a really fun coop couch game to play with a potentially somebody who doesn't play a lot of video games or you're trying to like a friend a roommate your partner or something like that to get into video games this is. This is a great one and it. Maybe we'll make them never wanna play video games again to she'll be fighting over you know. Burn food or whatever great More hitman awesome. Hitman is one of the best games this year. So i hit into an predator. Hunting grounds is a like a a really really interesting really fun. Sort of asymmetric multiplayer. Game that i really good time with. And they're continuing to add new skins and deal see to it all the time so Made by ill phonic. They've been doing costa recently so yet donald games. Check them out even if you don't get to him immediately just huma put him in your library so you have them forever. Yeah it's it's a good Sorta jumble of things and yet has as brian said. I think we've talked about overcook. Plenty on the show but just for reference all you can eat is a ps five version so it has improved frame rate. And that's definitely been one of the things sometimes those games when you have four people going. It's as crazy and complex. The game gets it can run a little bit slowly. This kind of improves all of that. And like i said it has all of the content from that series so definitely go check that out and have predator started a little bit rocky but as he said they've been supporting it since launch ilana has been doing a really great job of that They just released arcada an earlier this year as well. So they've got. They've got their hands busy with multiplayer yet. Cool to see those. And i'll just say that it meant to is my favorite of the hitman trilogy so like if you have not played hitman. Please get on that train because you're missing out and like i've seen a bunch of people like this year. Who jumped on with hitman. Free him in three. And i've said that. Like i know pass on this game for the longest time and i went back and played off all three of them. So men what a what a game. It is that the one with the race track race trash. That's why jaber levels owned by right that mission. Good taylor. I don't know about your you. A fan of any of these games are your interest and check them out. If you're not actually interested in playing hitman to are is it the game that also that like meringue looking suitcase hands throw the boomerang with their own jetski. When i saw that i it was on twitter. I.

"Just we've now known about it for it'll be close to two years by the time it comes out it comes out in the spring so i just. I can't wait to see what they've done with this one they. They know how to make a great game and and it feels like they're really upping the ante hair. Yup well we are going to take a very quick break but when we come back we're actually saying goodbye to jonathan and lucy and hello to mitchell saltzman who got a brand new behind closed doors. Look at a small game called elden ring and obviously maximum. I have a ton of questions for him. So we're going to pick his brain about alluring in just a minute. We will be back with the back. We'll be before podcast beyond held in ring right after this beyond boo back. This is podcast beyond games studio. Live on brand tunnel. Along with max go bill and mitchell saltzman who just got a behind the scenes. Look at the upcoming from soft game elden ring. One of the most anticipated games of two thousand. Twenty two dare. I say all time. Mitchell first of all were extremely jealous of you suck. I did it but it's good to see so you saw some brand new stuff from elder ring. You saw somebody playing the game in front of you. It's real it exists tells about it. Yeah so. I actually enough to kind of get to two experiences with during the first time i got to talk with you here talking as ocoee and just you know pigs brain about the game and this time i was given basically fifteen minute presentation and that fifteen minute kind of curated game play walkthrough of different different sections of the game and yeah. It's it really is they. Keep saying that's the culmination of everything that they've learned over the course of like dark. Souls game seco- bloodborne cetera. And it kind combines. A lot of those those learnings into this gigantic open world. That also has these. They're called legacy dungeons and those are kind of the more. Traditional dark souls guided areas. Where you you know there's a lot branching paths. There's a lot of places you can. you know. Find hidden hidden alcoves to find really cool items weapons and then they're punctuated by these gigantic boss fights so so yeah i got to. I got to see the way they split up. The open world is that they have open fields which are a typical open world. You wander around if feels like anything can happen. There's there was a moment in the gameplay demonstration. Where i i walked a to a group of enemies hang hang up by bonfires and all of a sudden dragged swoops in all the enemies out typical dark souls fashioned but then that turns into a boss fight and you have the choice of either fighting that dragon or running the hell away. There was also a moment where you you'd see like a caravan of enemies like a bunch of enemies all all guarding this treasure carriage. A make the choice. Do i want to engage them. Or do i want to just leave them alone and come back when i'm stronger. That's like the the big thing that i keep coming back to one things that sake. Sawn really harped on idea of freedom and choice. That's the big thing that i think separates elden ring from from their previous works. It's a game where you can really you mold it in the way that you really want to play the game. There's stealth now really viable option. There's some in so even if you don't want to engage with p. b. p. any summons kind of like castle bamieh simply or the catalina artists. Sarah where like you would kill enemy. You get their soul. And then you'd be you'd be able to use that seles part of your own little arsenal weapons and spells. So it's a ton of customer customization in your options. The summoned thing is one of the coolest things you could possibly tell me personally today. Because i like grinded on those enemies in areas are all the catalina games forever which you know. What's interesting about this. You mentioned like there's there's a lot more choice than ever before. I never really felt like those from south games. Were lacking in that department you have. You can choose from character classes. You know different starting gifts and stuff like that but it seems like they're opening that even more than ever. Now yeah for sure it. And that's one of the things that i talk about. It's it's on top of everything else that you already have in the in those games. Now have this option of doing stealth viable option. You now have the option of spending to summons as your main method of of dealing with tough scenarios. There was a moment in the game. Play where he came up on this enemy. Camp were like there was just a whole camp of enemies and he summons six dudes six. Pv monsters that all fight alongside of them and you just basically summons an army to help. Fight him to fight this. You know any encampment. And i actually asked them. I was like. Don't you think that that might make this a little bit too. Easy and Kitale son was the personnel talking to and he basically said like you know where well aware of the power of some of these summits and we kind of balanced it so that you know you get some some much later into the game. Some you actually have to spec into the path allows you to summon some of these more powerful ones. so it's all very calculated. Feels like i get the sense that that would be in some of the. It's like if you wanna do like arcane stuff in bloodborne. It's usually kind of tougher at the front half of the game. But then it gets towards the way i it that'd be the same deal with summons now talking about talking about how there's like legacy dungeons is this sort of like is this. Would you compare this to like sorta breath wild in that. There's this sort of the which didn't have dungeons but like there's different beasts that you can approach a order like you can just go to run into any direction and pick a dungeon and see what happens or so. I will say there. I think there are probably a little bit does a little bit of breadth of the wild in it because you have the spirit steed and there's a lot of verticality in buffalo wild right and i think in in the ring. Verticality is one of the big things after four in the open world. there's actually little platforms that you can go to while you're on your spirits seed you can leap up the on them and it'll just send flying into the air so they can leap onto you know the tops of cliffs awesome bets. That feels like something like was paying piggybacking off of seco- because that was one of the first games that made you go like. Oh i can go up there. That's cool yeah and also the seat can double jump. It doesn't seem like it takes fall damage so there seems to be a lot of freedom. Indeed the exploration of the open-field. What's different than breath. The while breath wild literally. You can go anywhere anytime you get a..

"Yeah i think in terms of story. It'd be worth seeing how ill elden ring tackles. It's because i like seco- for what i enjoyed about that story i know for you. You love narrative you look forward to narrative in games. Seco- has a good straightforward story. But also i think it's still that thing. Where if bloodborne didn't do it for you in terms of what they were doing with that story. I think is still has things in that case that are still i. Guess anchoring and get to being that from software light formula to it but free will what made secretary is the fact that the game place get either combat and sacramento is one of the most unique combat systems. I've played in the game and it is stripped addicting. Like it is like the main thing is that his based right and so like you're going into your trying to break down your enemies like they're also aware for their stance. Basically you're trying to you're trying to you're trying to break them down and the way you do that is by continually hitting hitting hitting them as they're trying to block your moves you hit that down you get an free strike. Go or it's kind of like Bit on order to an extent. Jennifer is the better example. Yeah and i think that combat system is so good. And i think you'd probably like it but i also see you. I could also see the case of waiting for elderly and being able to play that game with zeitgeist and with everybody else playing it and all playing this new from software game. That is doing new things. i think. Also a decent way to go. We will continue to owen. Nanna biologist says insecure. You're doing posture damage. Hoster thank you Tam two more hussein gamespot a kind of funny games daily regular now. I will tell you right now breaking news for you next week. Tam hosting for the first time. Ever in the lead share with jerry. Wihdan tuesday to more hussein from gamespot kind of from giant bomb rights. Elven ring is the exact kind of game that from software is known for creating but it's also exciting evolution that takes the best of what came before extrapolates it out onto a much grander scale potentially realizing that open worlds souls born fantasy. That many fans have been eager for the lands. Between were elven ring is set is an interconnected world that while vast didn't look like it was big just for the sake of being big. That much comes through. When looking at how dense the world is visually whether standing atop craggy cliffs peering out overland blanketed in an ominous fog venturing into snowcapped mountains or trudging through flooded cities from software. Wants you to always be drawn towards something of interest on the horizon and hopes that along the way you might accidentally stumble upon the unexpected a lot. Like breath of the wild. The developer is is counting on curiosity to be your guide instead of dozens of icons on a map. Similarly the things that you stumble upon or have thrust in front of you feel more emergent than most open world games in a hands off gameplay demo in the hands off gameplay demo i saw one such moment was a dragon suddenly swooping down engaging the player in any other soles born game the telltale signs of scripted boss fight would appear a terrifying but epic orchestral score accompanied by a health bar. In a fog gate that signifies that you are def definitely trapped but these elements didn't appear it was just an incredibly pissed off dragon looking to pick off a wandering warrior again blessing. I don't need. That sounds fucking awesome. I love that. Yeah i mean they came here said the magic words for me which is a lot like breath a wild life breath allowed one of my favorite games my favorite open world for share like the way in which they tackle open world in that game in the way that tm compares it to what they're doing littering for me says all the right things right. He's talking about the landmarks. He's talking about discovery ability. He's talking about like. There's there's the thing that i love. And breath allowed where you start off in the great plateau and when you look around you see all the different landmarks right you see death mountain you see something floating in the air they can go to you. See the entry areas you see the desert area. You see all the different and marks. They can go to in that open world and i feel like that open. World really is good at driving curiosity and driving the player to go. Oh man what is that. I'm going to go check that out to see what it is. Oh what's that over there. That's completely different thing. I'm gonna go check that out to see what it is but then you might be chilling. You look up and you see a dragon flying right. Is that sort of thing. And so like giving the exact example in elderly in tam's ring preview of the dragon dragon. Suddenly swooping down and engaging the player out of nowhere that type of thing really excites me and i think that that type of thing is the is the kind of thing that i could see from software really excelling because from software. Do you see as being some of the goats of game design like they really know how to make for sure Game seeing in terms of exploring a world in billing narrative in building mystery and all of that comparing it to breath wild comparing it to what from software dozen. Their games has me super excited and our final edition. Here from the previews goes to one. Mitchell saltzman over an aegean and by the way round of applause at home for mitchell saltzman. "It's littered with a lot of the same by the number open world activities collectibles. Expect to chase down a bunch of flags and laura items. Climb a few lighthouses in. Try your handed you archery challenges. None of these activities is especially engaging and while the side quests provides some good variety in their stories requirements and locations. The island still has its share of busy work scattered around. We're iki island excels though is in adding some new dimensions to the rest of ghost of suma. I it's exploration of jeans backstory. And his character bring more depth to the base game sale that improve it overall and it's beautiful. New landscape provides both more of what works about vanilla ghost in a few good if slight tweaks on the formula. Nothing drastic departure. But it's a lot more of the good stuff refreshing sucker punches already. Solid open world game and providing some interesting reasons to revisit it and finally we got to aegean dot com who also gave it an eight mitchell saltzman rights if more ghosts sugerman is what you want. The expansion is exactly that it provides another compelling story that dives deep into jin's passed a new absolutely gorgeous island explore that's full of meaningful collectibles and a couple of challenging additions to combat in the form of enemies. That force you to think on your feet even more than before the questions nine is disappointingly familiar to everything. We already played in the main game But any opportunity to revisit the stunning world. The soccer bunch has made his one worth taking tam. Have you played director's cut. And if not are you going to. I have not played it yet. But i will be playing it. I got a copy of it downloaded or have it downloading So i'm excited to check out. I really liked the original cosima shema. I think a lot of what people have said about it. Especially when Phil over at gamespot said because obviously open my own people. Also mitchell's is is like on point like i really loved it but it has his fair share of open walled blow and floss and the thing that i'm excited about is choosing not to engage at this time one because i think i've grown as a person and i think i've reached a point now where i'm like i value my time more than Following this fox around to something. I probably won't care about eventually but was because since it seems to be the same kind of Same flavor of like fluff two extra stuff to do. I feel good about Leaving it and not getting any specific foam about. But because of that an everything i've heard about the actual he island stuff and it's characterization and you know filling in some color around boss is really really exciting to me I'm super super eagles player. I think is kind of like going to get bumped up to the top of my play to play list. And i also do the check out any of the playoff when the digital camera. Yeah yeah so. I'm i'm like super keen on checking some of that as well but yeah i'm definitely gonna play so yeah full. Full thoughts are up for us over on the games cast. Please go check it out. Because it's it's me it's mike. Its blessing it's lucy. All talking about this. I love this. I've beaten the expansion. Took me a you know about three hours. Or whatever and i was in a similar boat to you where i was like cool. I've done it. I you know you re when you transfer your save over to the ps five version. I had the platinum for a popular the platinum here and so then it was. I think of like cool. I don't think i'm that motivated to necessarily go do everything again. And i was like war for o'connor's out i'm going to go over and start playing that and then it was that thing but i'm sure it's i love the game play of and i got drawn back into ghost and i went back and i started clearing the island again. I love that. And i think this one of my complaints as somebody who loved ghost of sushi for the first time around but by the end of it when it was like all right cool. I'm on my fortieth of forty two fox dens. I was like i don't need this type. I like that. They shook it up a bit here. They it's nine total animal. Dan's three different is like three cats three years etc. Like you get that shaken up a bit. And then there's a bunch of cool easter eggs. I want to spoil in there I think playstation fans are willing to like when they get into it the expansion itself. The story of what you're talking about does a lot for gin. And i i think the The antagonistic fighting against the eagle is really interesting. I don't know how much you've heard about. her Tam but i would really be interested to see your takes batman fan. On what yeah. I'm excited that's the other thing that i want to check out like. I'm based on reviews. Seen the eagles seems to be a real culture and khan was fine but it was a very vanilla type of villain right. It was like i'm here. I'm gonna about to rain your house right. i hate it. I got very very well acted yet. But like not not particularly. You don't remember when they first introduced the game and there was a trailer and carta was like i've learned your language and i've i've studied the way it was like. Oh this is like a a mazda mind levels schemer that we're dealing with her and then you play the game. And he's not really always wanted. He's always getting out of there and not really in the main game. He's like a high stolen your own cole. Coming at him and it's like okay cool I was kind of like not missing it. But like i lamented the fact that it wasn't more of like a mind game type thing where you could like be outwitting. You both like in battle and in like strategy But it sounds like the new villain Is is more of that and the very least has a more commanding presence and is around and has a little more like a nuance in terms of like catheterization too. Which is cool into that. I saw on the chat here. After when we're talking glancing over here people like oh three hours three hours for the story. Line of the eagle third. I've you're doing everything on the island. I'm doing that i would. I would say i'm approaching. I mean grand total probably on at seven hours right now and that's me partner on the island running around doing stuff remembering how good i mean. This is all taking. We're putting in the backseat. How much fun it is to play. Goes how cool. That combat system is one of the summaries. Obviously much longer reviews talked about thinking on your feet the enemies you're fighting on iki actually switch their stances the same way you switch ears so like you have to be on the ball of coal year and sword stanstead. They switch over to the big poll. You've switch over to the poll..

"Thing that was that was announced during xbox. Right this was this was a separate event that happened yesterday so that one but that game had already been announced previous is known for a little while i think that event was originally listed on the band co presents and then then they clarified that it was just that game were getting their hopes up yum. Be we've seen for years now. Abandoned namco's kind of they've they've buddied up with With microsoft and we got we get their big data may game reveals during those streams. Like whether it's you know jump forests or you caca rod or whatever so i wonder if we're gonna see like i wonder if the if the thing tomorrow is going to be extended looks at the stuff that microsoft already showed or if there's going to be some new stuff sprinkled in there and see how much mileage it gets or it just didn't fit in the existing. You know a lot of time they had previously. We know during that show that like ninja theory will be there and help lead wasn't at the conference over. We're likely to see some stuff there that wasn't at their show but yeah i do think you're totally right. I think it's them testing the waters especially now that they own the microsoft theater next door like at three hundred nineteen. They moved off the show floor. And putting their showings of ran. A very weird transitional period i think playstation skipping made a lot of sense but what it means for the future. I think it'll raise a lot of questions that will see kind of play out. In the months and years to come as we wrap up of things i do also briefly want to mention there is an unboxing on of the two new dual sense controllers. I apologize if you can see some flex. Serve a paper towel that i used to try to wipe off so you didn't see handprints odd either. The to dual sense colors. This is the midnight black and the cosmic read. I was all on the the midnight black before they were released. Because i thought it looked like a dual sense but as i looked like a dual chocolate. A dual sense. But i've actually really grown to love the cosmic read. It's weirdly. The lighting betrays it. But it's actually more of a like a berry read it. It's sort of a warmer read than than like the spiderman. Ps four playstation. Special edition was actually really really liked this color. A lot in terms of the first duel sense that they've shown off. I actually really love this one. I don't know why it's five dollars more. It's five dollars more expensive than the midnight black for some reason. A red crushed red pigments to get it in there. What is not remotely cosmic. They should have called like works. Exotic gentlemen's pool table. Read like what is well. It's both of the colors are you can see the the flex their both of them are like it's midnight black and cosmic space themed. I don't know why that has nothing to do with what i think of playstation but nonetheless they are cool colors that you can go check out like a close up unboxing of so so definitely go. Check that out if you are interested in picking one of those up before we wrap up. I do want to mention briefly mitchell. You reviewed the final fantasy seven remake episode intermission deal is that the name is that the cartoon final fantasy seven remake integrated episode inter-. It's all capitalized mission. I'm houston katri arcade addition. It's not a surprise to me that that's what they went with. I'm about halfway through it. I finished chapter. One and i am amazed. I even did that. Because i couldn't stop playing fort condor but i just wanted you to give your brief thoughts on the. This is a really good deal. it is kind of short in terms of the actual story content. You can probably get through in about four hours if you don't spend all your time in for condor because condors awesome but yeah it. I think he is is kind of started the show here. She's just an awesome character. She's a she's away. She's like supremely confident in everything she does. Which is just really funny to watch. And she's just kind of a bad ass and then also got sewn. Who's a really cool new character that they add as well and they got a really good dynamic of almost you know big brother little sister. The big protective brother who's constantly flabbergasted. How no headstrong and crazy So yeah it's it's a it's a really fun you'll see. The they added a new combat style for you fee which which i described in my review as being like they just dropped the platinum games character and file. Fancy seven remake She's got like a you get rewarded for for doing a perfect perfect lock in that you can completely negate damage so like if you're really really good you can like wreck people even without having you know the level of advantage just by just by blocking all their tax. You have like a special dodge. If you use at the right time you gain your back so it's very action game heavy which obviously really like this is a mitchell saltzman game as you're eating well at the moment my friend. I am eating very well right now. Yeah this is. This was a lot of fun. A the love. Comments are like well. Why don't you give it a nine then. The reason for that is that it is just a four hour experience for the main the main line game and even though there are these great side activities. I highly recommend checking out. You know the the quality of the four hours you have when you're playing the main game and the quality that you have when you're playing the rest of it. They're not exactly the same. Even though it's still worth going through the the real meat of the of the deal see is is that four hour experience so yeah. I think it's great. It's just not you know an absolutely amazing kind of thing. But i nature of just being. Dlc i wish this was a full game i wish you if he was part of the main cast and god. I cannot wait for part. Two of final fantasy seven remake definitely have to wait muslim. I i think it's worth saying you're calling it greats like it is really great deal. See i'm i'm flying through it. It is very sort of like not in a bad way because the combat is so great but also in criticizing way like it is pretty repetitive. In terms of like it is essentially just like especially the second half is like a lot of just challenge after challenge room after challenger like it is very it is not that like interestingly paste. I think like moment of the scenario introducing you to but like as you were saying the core combat with you via so fun that it makes that a really pleasant experience. That's at least how like. I've been taking it so far but yeah like you said the site stuff is so fun please square. If you're listening. I will pay good money to play a fort condor spin off. I don't like it probably will be free to play. And you'd have crazy monetization. i would sadly probably indulge. It's really fun if you play the dlc. Don't skip on that many game. 'cause it's a lot of fun but unfortunately we're pretty much out of time We definitely in in the coming weeks. It'll be a little lighter. Talk about some of the stuff. We've been playing otherwise but before we leave. You can find us all on twitter. I'm at jammed. Greenbush mitchell at drastic rabbit. Lucie is at brian. Max's at max scoville mitchell. Is there anything. Also then your final fantasy review your miyazaki interview and all the other amazing stuff. You've been doing three wanna point people toward a..

"Ask mitchell. Where does it sit tone. Only final fantasy is totally To me quite distinct. And i don. I don't automatically pair it up with the sole right. It's very kind of different property in my mind and obviously just this footage that we're seeing now is a moody and dark and of course you know that that will pot of final fantasy as well but final fantasy is also quite silly and extremely i'm saying and then i'm looking footage and it looks extremely over the top but yeah i guess. My question is totally. What's what's what's the vibe. It feels dark. There's no joy this joining this game. But you know i. It is kind of that. Weird jackson but jackson position. Because you do have like these really missing looking creatures. You're robbing wolves by the by the john like breaking their their bones when they try to bite. You also have kept ours. You had these little weird rare. Cactus men that are like this and have the same expression shooting little cactus spines so there is. There is kind of weird whiplash. I'm curious to see how the actual full game develops at but this this was was pretty much all one one speed and it was just kind of dark restaurant with the demo. A little bit Mitchell saltzman asked him for sure. This is a this is a mitchell saltzman. Ask game for sure i definitely. I wasn't wild about it. One thing i i was hearing is that like it's people are saying it's like set at the end of final fantasy one seventy. It's it's i haven't. I haven't played final fantasy one which i think fancy one i think right right yeah spoilers for a thing that came out or whatever but it's it's weird because like i said like it's it might might not look like final fantasy but the blood is in its veins and i'm like you know you. You can have a blood transfusion that doesn't affect your appearance or personality is definitely feels like more of a team. Ninja game than a final fantasy game. Right know the dishes stuff wars and like the job system is really cool Yeah this. I feel like if you didn't tell me this was final fantasy i would. I would probably never guess. I mean unless you saw a cactus or whatever but like it's it's seems so much like a you know a neo or a devil may cry type of thing It's i mean. I don't i wanna see what it's like if if this is late game. There's obviously a demo. This isn't the entire world but like if there is more colorful areas You know maybe something more you nature even like a big wrought iron castle. It's it's just it's interesting. I mean. I know if i don't know if i'll if i'll go with i'm curious. What would it is lengthwise. because it's a final fantasy games are usually like seventy out there. Like neil games are pretty lengthy to they can like upwards of forty to fifty hours. Yeah okay well on the first through be interesting. I guess i just normally associated action games with being a little more a little shorter. Yeah from from seoul's born games are kinda different because there is. There is a fair amount of grinding. So i don't know. I do think that the the final fantasy aspects of this kind of play out in interesting ways like enemies have like little attack name pop up when they're about to use an ability which is kinda cool so you can know what what you need to do to avoid it then. Yeah like the. It's being majors is pretty cool because you bring up a like. When you're charging is spell you bring up a radio wheel that lets you choose what element you wanna use and then when the more you hold it down you go from like fire to fear to farrago. So that the way the way the final fancy aspects manifest in this game are actually pretty neat. You've reminded prevented like metal rising vengeance. Which was you know jima. Basically passing the franchise over to the platinum and they made a platinum game that had enough metal gear sprinkled on top of it. It was totally. its own thing. It was it was not even trying to be a stealth game. This kind of feels like the same thing where it's like. This is a team game. Like through and through. It just happens to have some final fantasy caused by going on. Yeah that's a really good comparison as that is exactly what like this game is. This game is to file fancy what million rising was to mill your solid. It feels like feels like a really good shot. i only played. Maybe like a half hour. Forty five minutes of the demo. But i was. Yeah i was enjoying the game. Play if not feeling very overwhelmed by all of it as you were saying michelle like there's a lot to grasp even after it run through some tutorials stuff. I was kind of like felt like it was just throwing so much of the gameplay at you and obviously wants to give you a taste of of what the full game isn't it's a demo. So who knows how it will play out in the full game but i was intrigued by it enough to to wanna see the full thing more. I do agree with. You was definitely running a little rough. It's a demo. But yeah i do hope to max's point. We see more colorful areas. Because what i was seeing was very dark and grey and like it's a series that can go so fantastically hope. There's an interesting balance and one last thing. I think to point out about one of the weird critiques. I saw going around was everyone was hitting on the main character and bemoaning the fact that you'll have to be throughout the whole game so much armor i never saw the dudes face like even if you if you don't like you'll be wearing a helmet within like fifteen twenty minutes. Do not worry. Do you do still have to deal with him. Yelling return. He he rip. Someone's head off an execution which happens a lot hate. No muslim more said said he wanted to make a game about an angry man and finally finally. We have a really. You know there hasn't been another ran into games. Yeah you should really get Michael douglas from falling down to play at. That would be a hell of a shout like a different sort of anger. That i feel. We don't really see enough of in video games. More relatable anger to me bringing douglas falling falling down game. You're going to cause as much chaos without killing anybody right. You're going to shoot up the ceiling of food restaurant but not hurt. Anybody just gonna throw many phoenix house of heart attack. I'll never to the falling down spoiler bringing you the most relevant.

"Even if they didn't show up to three we've still got a lot to talk about when it comes to playstation. I'm during this week to discuss it. All by mitchell saltzman. Hello hello and mitchell lucy. O'brien as well not as much as experts. Not as much as like unlocked. Go talk about. Hey like with where a little bit like you know. We've been throwing some scraps and we like split talk about it for animal feed us playstation career enough and we're also joined this week by mexico. Ville everybody happy to be here. Happy to have you here as well on this day after he three and none of us had to take a flight. We're of course going to jump into despite playstation not being every three there are still a lot of games that will be on playstation that we're going to talk about in in the episode dicamba. We're also going to jump into a little bit of discussion about playstation show is not three again this year. Obviously get twenty nineteen. Everyone's get twenty twenty because it didn't happen in all senses of that phrase and a bit more before we get into it though. I do wanna do a very quick sort of news crunch because there's actually been a lot of other stuff going on. We have so many games to talk about. I just briefly wanted to mention one. I didn't interview with the heads of deviation games. Dave anthony and jason blundell as well as herman host from playstation Talking about their new partnership which was announced at jeff. Healey's kickoff live. I think was what that show is called We talk a bit about their partnership. Why they wanted to partner with playstation playstation. Three two partners. Because herman has talked recently a lot about you know treating these partners like they would treat any of the first party studios and of morals really discussion. I think she definitely go check those guys. Are they worked. Call zombies a lot right. Yeah one of them. Was i believe director on black ops. One and two and the other was the co creator of zombies. Yeah they have a lot of history. I i've definitely interviewed the mccown. And i think it was specifically about like the weirdest corners of that like talking about like. Oh you jeff goldblum's a magician and you're fighting robot zombies on the titanic or whatever. It's like yeah. I'm curious what they do. It was really interesting discussion because they. They're actually like lifelong friends. They've been friends since they were like sixteen years old like teenagers and they were talking about how they always like dreamed of being able to have their own studio like that. Ever since they've been wanting to get into game design they wanted to have their own project and do their own thing and so they were like we loved working within. Obviously you know a big franchise like call of duty and those constraints allow you to do and get creative in. But they're they're really excited about doing something themselves that they create the constraints for so we'll see what it is but yeah in addition to that also just wanted to mention. There was news in the past week. As if this week wasn't busy enough that cyberpunk twenty seventy seven will return on the espn on june twenty-first. This is of course still the. Ps four version and in fact the announcement Comment i believe from playstation was like you should probably play this on a ps four pro playstation five. You should not play it on the base playstation for basically. We're still waiting on next versions for those games. Of course but yeah that will continue to cover that as we hear more about whatever the next version. That game is end. Gas we are is allegedly hitting in holiday. Twenty twenty two Next year from a report from bloomberg so we may see that nexgen. Vr headset pretty early in the life cycle the ps five as opposed to. He has three. Are i think hitting three years into the life of the yes four but yeah well. We'll obviously touch on that when we see the psbr to in whatever they call it. But there are a ton of excuse me playstation games to talk about from three even though playstation. Wasn't there so. I thought that maybe way to cover. This would be excuse me how to clear. My third would be kind of mentioned a few of the big ones and also just get a sense of where you all are most excited about some games that we saw. I'm so briefly. I want to start off on final fantasy origin. Strained is it strangers in paradise strangers of paradise. I don't have the full title in front of me. But this is a final fantasy game. That was rumored Before he three kinda got leaked ahead of time that is essentially a souls like ish take on final fantasy team ninja. You're watching the video version. You would have seen their their local pop up. I answered been described as a neo s. Take on final fantasy. There's been a demo that was released on playstation five specifically but like the trailer says a quite often heo rained and the demo was unplayable for like two or three days. Unfortunately it's now since been updated. It's not corrupted anymore. You can go play it. I played a little bit of it. Mitch you've played a bit. So i want to start off with you. What what did you think of. The demo actually played a lot of it trying to capture a clean run where i did not die. Took me quite a while. Actually but yeah. It's so it's exactly what it kind of advertises itself as this is a indonesia take on lassie and if you're familiar with neo you know what team ninja doing a source. Light kind of looks like But this this has a couple of really unique aspects to it. There's no stamina meter for one so you can kind of just wail on enemies without having to worry too much about your tiring yourself out like most team ninja games. I feel like you kind of have to understand how to play this game in order to have fun with it I think the key to understanding it is the fact that you have like this. Parry button basically allows you to pair mostly any attack. There's a couple of on walkable tax but if you carry attack a kite depletes meter they have at the bottom and if that gets to plead you get staggered so you basically are down for a free hit it. So it's kind of about balancing that level of defense with still being able to you know use all your own abilities that also take magic. It's there's a lot going on here but Once you figure it out. I feel like it is the combat is pretty fun but you know it is. It's just an early demo. It really does feel like this is the kind of thing that you would be playing at three if you were on the show floor so it was a little rough. The frame rate wasn't completely solid. But i'm interested in this. I think it's got a really cool job system that's taking from the fancy rpg's and putting it into a souls like so you can basically level up a certain job and you can get skills on skill tree. And then once he gets to the bottom of that skill tree you unlock a new. A new set for that job. So go from swordsman. They get to the bottom. Ignore luck the warriors the warrior job which has its own skill tree. Once you switched to that class. You kind of reset your stats. So you kind of have to you know. Build a new tree. That's going to eventually be better than the swordsman class. But you have to kind of work with that early process of being a little weaker than you would normally be so. Yeah it's a. I think this game has a lot of potential. And i really. I'm really excited to see Out develops the story. They don't really. They don't really do much with the story. Other than you know. chaos. I must kill chaos. Well it's gonna..

"Everyone. My name is jonathan dorm. Bush and this is a podcast beyond bonus episode. I was going to try to do a big like boo boo bone. But it didn't really feel like that was me so i'm just going to explode. We we need you to do some sound effects. So i can play them on the show for future episodes house steroids. This is great anyway. This is in fact. A bonus episode of beyond. Because if you haven't already be sure to listen to this week's episode. I with my fellow co host for this week mark medina mitchell saltzman where we went through all the big news from the the bigger hermit host interview on the playstation blog as well as some other stuff on in the world of playstation. But today we're talking a little bit about again you may have heard about. Even last week. Horizon forbidden west Now of course resum been west. Got a really big state of play presentation We saw. I think it was fourteen minutes of new gameplay and we got a deep dive into some of the combat reversal mechanics. We got to see some of their like fun. Interesting takes on a san francisco thousand years in the future and overtaken by A lot of not great stuff happening in the world. as as the human race became extinct. Thanks to robots But in addition to all of that. I also got to do an interview with the game's narrative director and the game and we chatted a little bit about Some extra details about the game play in the story and stuff that i thought it'd be fun to go through up before we do mitchell. I wanted to get your sort of general reactions. Obviously markinor on the live reaction episode from last week about someone who who watched it as well and as you've mentioned on this week's episode started her zero don again. What what did you think of the presentation kidding. Incredible no the like. I said the main episode Watching this like my mind driving motivation was like okay. I need re download horizon. I need to play this game again. Because i need to be reminded of of how good this game is just to get ready for for this upcoming sequel One of the issues. I had with The original horizon was that You know the the combat between the dinosaurs was absolutely incredible and was super tactical. And there's so many different things that you could do. But then when you fought against human enemies know it kind of wasn't exactly that same kind of groundbreaking experience and watching watching this. It seems to address that almost right out of the gate dealing with human enemies seems much more fun and you know for reasons. I'm sure we'll get into as we go over the interview that you did but yeah i was super impressed. I think this game and tastic and it really seems to be listening to feedback on on things that maybe didn't hit us hard in the original game. Yeah absolutely that. That was definitely i think our big takeaway was like the stuff that did work there. Really doubling down on and the things that didn't quite work seem to have been getting some much needed weeks and yeah. Let's let's just jump into all that information's so i can go check out more details for my interview with the game director matthias and narrative director benjamin off from guerrilla. We spoke a lot about the state of play presentation in detail. But one of the big things that i want to start off with was the fact of With highest addressing some of the free climbing in the game and the exploration and traversable. Because that was something that i think we talked about this. A little bit on the live show like unfortunately horizon always kept getting compared to breath in the wild because of their close proximity and release even though they're very different open worlds aims and very differently focused but because of that a lot of people were like well. The climbing is so much more rigid. You can't climb as much. There's there's only so many surfaces whether or not related to breath in the wild. They have taken that in stride and are updating the expiration so in the in the state of play you see at one point Her focus to be able to see some handholds and people. I think a us included Okay there will still be limited and holds an places to go and It definitely will be something that i think is structured but the focus was actually intention. Is that showing you things for especially like low light conditions in areas where you can't see where those places to grab would be But in the interview he said about the free climbing it is very open at some point. We had hand annotations on loss of the we had. Hand annotated excuse me lots of the rocks and cliffs the mountainsides but at some point. We changed that to an automatic system that just detects if there is a latch somewhere in the geometry so now the entire world all the rock formations etc. Everything is automatically by that system entertainment. Annotated that means you can climb pretty much anywhere into he. He clarified that inside settlements. You're interacting with human characters more. That is a little bit different. You never fight fighting the settlements. So there is more of a hand placed a controlled exploration going on there but outside of the settlements immi open world. You can climb anywhere and what we showed in the state play in the demo is that we use the focus to ping and show the climb hand handholds. I think some people think that you have to do that in order to be able to climb. But that's not true. This is just for low conditions to be able to highlight them so you can actually see them better about. The player. could climb anywhere without having so. I wanted to get both of your reactions huge. I think that's also and that they've clarified that and address that so directly. Because i do think that was one of the biggest. Criticisms of the game comparisons disaster notwithstanding mark. I guess we'll start with you at what. What did you think about that yet to me. It really is a game changer. Because when when we were watching it you know she does. She does the paying. And you see the the the yellow spots and you're like alright. Those trees can be climbed souto learn. It's actually those are everywhere and you can. Just you know he says in the interview he says you know. The goal for this game was in zero don. Uc amount of new. Go round it. Where forbidden west you see amount and you can just go over it. Want and like. I love that i i really think that that. Is it really changes. How big this game's gonna be because even if the math wasn't any bigger than zero don now that you know.

"Hello everyone my name. Is jonathan dornbusch. I'm two shots of espresso in and we have so much playstation news. Talk about this morning. It's probably not enough espresso but with me here to cover all of this late breaking a playstation news that we have this week are as they are colloquially known the carpool crew mitchell saltzman cool through car full crew also mentioned i am five shots of espresso in. What am i jesus i. I was two shots of water. Computer is really really vipin with mitchell. Shots shots water. No this this episode is going to be a tough one. Let me tell you know. Of course we have plenty of big play station news to talk about today but in fact there's so much to talk about this week that you should stay tuned for another mini episode of beyond tomorrow. Morning look forward to that. If you're if you're listening to this the day this goes live Morning stay tuned for that But if you enjoy this wonderful crew. You'll have more to gift from us tomorrow. But i you have a lot of playstation news to hear from us. I'm sorry there's so much we have to talk about. There's no bs for the week. So obviously the first thing. I want to talk about is duck tales. Yeah of course. So why are we talking about ducktail again. I i wanna get duct tails at the end of the show i just wanted to set that that amanda marketed to us about and i just want to. I want to set the foundation for a ducktail story at the end of this episode. Prepare to have ever youtube comment. And just what does never washington. Who'd never okay. We'll get we'll get there. I can talk about duck tales with mark medina but until the end to talk about the play station news. That's happening today. And all of this is pretty much coming from a single interview with herman host the head of playstation worldwide studios that dropped on be playstation blog as well as the playstation podcast. Just this morning as we were buttoning up the runners show for today. We're like we're all set for the okay. Actually there's a lot of new sony news to discuss so it's always. It's always a thing. I try to be optimistic here. I would rather news drop like this happen thirty minutes before the episode then thirty minutes after so. I'm sure i'm sure bush would agree with that. I've had my fair share of like playstation wednesday night announcements. That just completely are like well. Why do we even bother recording this week. So this is wonderful. Herman i appreciate you doing this interview in time for this episode. Yeah i i appreciate you. You keep in mind there as well as human who who conducted the interview a but anyway. Let's let's get into the news because there's a lot to talk about here that is essentially about the future of playstation studios as we know some of the the currently announced titles and some of the stuff we don't know about the first thing though. I think the biggest thing that you talk about is the news regarding god of war so obviously next god of war as it is known maybe called god wagner according to a playstation investor report. Maybe not called god of war. Regular according to corey tweets with a. You know an annoyed gif about the title leaking or not whatever it may be called the next god of war is not going to hit in twenty twenty one as was originally announced with a teaser trailer. Last year as of right now. It is confirmed for a two thousand twenty to release. There's no exact timing next year But santa monica did put out a statement alongside The announcement in the blockbuster. I'm just gonna read their statement The statement says since the release of the next out of ortiz or last year. We've been humbled by the amount of love. Our community has shown us. We're we're incredibly grateful to see so. Many people excited to experience the next chapter of rados racist journey. Create us troops confirmed for the sequel. We remain focused on delivering a top quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team rate of partners and families with this in mind. We've made the decision to shift our release window to twenty twenty two. Thank you all for your continued support. We've got some exciting things in the works that we can't wait to show you santa monica studio so this also comes alongside the confirmation that it is also going to be released on. Ps four nps. Five and i do want to get to that portion of the conversation a second but in terms of this release shift to next year a mitchell. I'll start with you. Because you had mentioned a bet on social media did this announcement surprise you or Did it was unexpected for you. How did you know it was always a dumb bed. I think i think anyone that. Watch this teaser. What it was. It was last year right. it was only twenty one. Yeah i think anyone who watched this thought. Wow that seems ambitious. We're in the middle of a pandemic this. It's only been at that point. Two years since the release of gabor twenty eighteen and these are big games you know. We've kind of gotten used to really long development cycles between entries and big series. So i think you know. It's not a super surprising delay. It is disappointing. Because i thought that if they were gonna make that that that kind of gutsy proclamation that this game is coming out in two thousand and twenty one during a pandemic that they they knew something that everyone else didn't like it was it was very close to maybe not close but i think they really thought they could do it And you know the delay while it's disappointing. It's not super surprising to me. I was just. I was just holding out on hope. Yeah i i was very much there with you in terms of like i every time we talked about god of war being a twenty twenty one game on the show. It was always with like unspoken asterisk. We're expecting it to get pushed. The next twenty twenty two days kind of been the unspoken and spokane. Bit of this release cycle. I was with. I was surprised when they said twenty. Twenty one in that made me think. Oh maybe they're they're further along than we think. But yeah i think especially you know. Given the pandemic given their emphasis in the statement on wanting to make sure developers are living reasonable. Lives will make this game. I h no surprise at all to me. What about you first off. I want to say like before. We started recording. This our producer read was talking about bureau. This is the beer over iraq. And i was like this loose hypnotizing hoop regular over and over we joe. We'll and yet he's doing it and i just love him for it. That's red is the best in the business a. I can't imagine a scenario where sony would ever tease a release or any game. Company would ever tease her. Release date just for hype knowing damn well that it's not going to come out that ask lastingly.

"Ghost of Sumitomo. Reviews are live today ahead of the game. Friday release, and they are overall very positive. I got a code from Sony Awhile ago and before I dive into everyone. Else's reviews I just wanted to say that I really love the game I watched. Credits roll late last night, and the game is particularly innovative in terms of open world action. I just found. Found it to be really well executed I love the way protagonist Jin Sakai moves I love the way all of your abilities and stances, which you have to change often through the course of every fight are instantly accessible without ever having to enter a pause menu, which is something that's important to me and something I like when it's pulled off well. I like games that. That keep you in control of your character. As much as possible Encima, you can switch between all kinds of sort abilities gadgets for lack of a better term immediately all while being in full control of Jessica, and that maintains a certain level of momentum just throughout the game. Play that I really appreciate the navigation system, which uses the wind to direct the player also adds. ADDS to that sense of momentum and helps you stay in the world by removing the need to ever look at a mini map, but it still directs the player in a way that feels natural and unobtrusive. There's a lot more to say about the game you know in terms of things like it's story, and it's visuals, but those were some of my big game play. It just as a really good job of keeping you in the game in the world at all times which I really appreciate. Ghost of Sushi is currently sitting at an eighty four on metacritic, my friend Matt Miller at game, informer gave the game one of its most positive reviews with a nine point. Five Score Miller wrote in his review ghost of Suma capture the Mystique, fierce violence, and barely contained emotional angst of the Great Samurai films. The line of inspiration is clearly purposeful. Sucker Punch included a gorgeous Karasawa mode, which sets a black and white film grain audio, treated effect that doubles down on the classic cinematic vibe. It's well worth turning on if only for A. A few missions, but even beyond that cool feature. This is a game that nails the aesthetic. It's shooting for firmly establishing itself as the Mediums Defining Samurai Saga. I Jeans Mitchell Saltzman gave the game in nine and wrote. Ghost of Susanna is an enormous and densely packed. Samurai adventure that often left me. Completely awestruck with, both it's visual spectacle, an excellent combat by steadily introducing new abilities instead of stat upgrades. It's sort play manages to stay challenging reloading and fun throughout the entire forty to fifty hours that it took me to beat the campaign. A few aspects are surprisingly lacking in Polish in comparison to other first party Sony Games especially when it comes to enemy. And the stealth part of its stealth solution action split still this is an extraordinary open world action adventure game that solves several issues that have long gone unaddressed in the genre, while also just being an all around Samurai slash in good time. Easy allies is Bradley Ellis gave the game eight point five and wrote. Ghost of Sushi has a lot going for it. Combat is fast. Fast and fluid. The story is engaging. Thanks to some great characters, most disappointing is that taking a stealthy approach can sometimes make victory feel simple and unearned, despite that the island itself is the biggest draw taking you on a captivating adventure through. It's beautiful world US gamers Mike Williams. Who impressively did just about everything you could in the game? He tweeted some screen shots of. Having a metaphorical checkmark next to every activity in the game. Gave Ghost of an eight and wrote sucker punches first stab at a stealth action. Adventure hits the mark. Quick aside here, sly cooper I feel like has a fair bit of stealth in it, but that's neither here that's just semantics anyway back to the review. The island of Suma is a beautiful backdrop for this tale of revenge and honor, and the environmental art is a visual treat. Combat and stealth are largely solid, though there are issues with the camera and hitting the right targets, the biggest stumble comes with the Japanese vocal track, which isn't sinked correctly with the characters lips ashamed for game like this ghost of Sushila. SUSHILA isn't the most innovative way to end a generation, but it is a fun game spots. Edmund Tran had a lot of Nice things to say about ghost of Suma, but does represent one of the more negative reviews. He gave the game seven and wrote Ghost of Sumitomo's story hits hard the Games third and final act and ends in spectacular fashion. Quick aside again. I totally agree it left me with the same kinds of strong emotions. I felt at the end of all my favorite Samurai film epochs and had. Had Me eager to watch them all again to game hits a lot, a fantastic cinematic highs, and those ultimately lifted above the trappings of its familiar open world design, and all the nate weaknesses that come with it, but those imperfections and dull edges are definitely still there. Ghost of Sushmita is at its best when you're riding your horse taking in the beautiful world on your own terms, armed with a sword and a screen shot button, allowing the environmental cues and your own curiosity to guide you. It's not quite A. A criterion classic, but a lot of the time. It sure looks like one. All of those reviews are linked in the show notes ghost of Sushila releases on Friday for playstation four and I can't wait for everyone to get their hands on it and start sharing.

"So there's no excuse so never mind, but the other thing. Yeah. The character is I do know that to talk I wanted to know the least used character. I wanted to know who has that fifty six point eight percent win rate, but he didn't go into that. But what's anytime for that though? Because so this information came out of a fem, it sooner view. Yes. And the theory is that sacrifice going to have a column infancy moving forward. And like he's specifically going to break down smashed up like this. That's awesome. Should be very cool. I'm excited for it. And love to see more insight from him. And maybe one day they will release him from smash. Maybe I don't think. But no gonna be his last pointed at me he says he says every time we're talking about metal gear like this is my last smash game. Guess what it's not yet? Even talked about that he said he that he thought everyone is going to be his last match because he. Shocked. They let him make more of them athlete. So it's his last one. Who knows? I mean, we'll talk about the sales numbers later. But that's certainly not the last. You'll see why they'll never release him from prison. Two more notes that he was surprised by. So everyone said that everyone was saying Kay rules overpowered, but he actually has pretty average when rates it's fifty one point nine percent. And the other thing he notices that even though daisy and peach are pretty much the same characters peach has a significantly higher win rate than daisy does I think it's something between ten percent. It's really weird. I think it was like a fifty four percent fifty four point four percent win rate on peach and only like fifty percent win rate on daisy. We read an article. Mount for Mitchell Saltzman last week where he interviewed some pro players about the state of the competitive scene of smashing peaches like one of the most popular characters on the competitive scene, though. And I think that's part of the number disparity because it's really hard to look at these numbers. And just be like, this is fact, right? Like right there, really really really great indicators. But there's so many things that can go into it and one of them is the competitive community and people who really play smash hardcore. No that peaches great. And they don't really talk about. Daisy. Even though daisy is pretty much the same character. Not exactly the simple pretty much the same end so competitive players know to play peach. Yeah. And that's why they're the better players are playing peach. Whereas a lot of people are playing daisy who maybe don't really care about that side of stuff as much, and so you're probably have more not highly skilled players playing daisy than you do playing peach just because she's not talked about in the competitive community as much and therefore her win rate is lower. And I don't know if that's for sure. But it does. Show that like these numbers are not free from bias. I think soccer, I even says like their free from bias. And it's like, no. Stats like that or not from bias?.

"Finish the game. You need to finish the adventure mode because the end of world of light made the grind worth it for me. Interesting. But it was still a grind you're saying. Even if like, you're not even the biggest mashes fan, but you're just a huge intendo fan in general. What do you find your immune motto at the end of the game? Yes, spoilers. Somebody's finally teach that guy less and I'm not I'm not going to spoil anything with the end. I just want to say it is if you're getting about like if you're twenty hours into this. And you're like, I don't wanna keep going just try to push through because it's really hire someone. Yeah. I felt the same way about some space at emissary though. I really enjoy these games playing against friends, but the single player modes kind of start to lose me after a while. Yeah. And some space was only like seven to ten hours long. And this was this took Mitchell. Mitchell Saltzman who was going for a little bit more completion than I did. Like, I said I had like eighty four percent. He had almost one hundred and it took him thirty five plus hours to do that. And for hundred percent, can you go back to spots that you didn't like fill out, and yeah, okay. You it's the type of thing where when you win the game, you can just kind of keep going that makes sense that actually sounds really awesome. It's it's a lot. But I also admit that I am Agean. It's different when you don't have to beat it in a weekend. Like I did. Right. Like, I played this straight. If you're playing world of light in in more bite sized chunks over a month or so it's probably much more enjoyable way to do it. But it's still just at a certain point you hit progression that just stops. And that's a bummer. Yeah. I I will say his. Historically, many times on this show that I'm not the world's biggest smash fan that I'm a casual smash fan. I like to jump in and play when you know, we're playing here in the office like that. The idea that the story mode. The adventure mode alone is twenty four twenty five hours in ehre of red dead and assassin's creed and all these, you know, eighty plus our games is like even are fighting game has to have..
