You have the temerity to put down a resource that's far beyond anything that you possibly think in this lifetime regarding my credibility, your real quite The recommendation. You just brought up and what they do recommend Kool Aid to his fellow students. By the late I only focused on Where'd you idiot? I focus on basically your booze. You're aggravated during the summer here the water? Why do they focus on Peter in the water in the summer? Because I only drink red. When I drink wine, it's ready now. That's hard for you to basically ascertain if that's hard for you about to understand the bottom line that I did value to people. That's Rick with wine in December, such as a piano, the water so I only Focused on 7 11 continued stories that describe the margin 300 times the rate. Just the question. You suppose we know what you're talking about. Of course you don't. I focus on the needs, which is a great in the choice selected since Sailor that has Mark West, 2000 and 80 from the Appalachian California vintage line, you back invited in your fight. For 3 99. Now let me ask you this Martin profit while you're sitting at home playing with, you know, with your video games and basically playing glass menagerie in your isolation room. I'd like to bring this to your attention. There's value and basically going to the big box of the beneath because they have what I call amazing given toy. And why do you want to go down when I called a rabbit hole of your loser distributor? Okay. Does nothing to take 10 99 rages. I hardly just the following that you'd better care from which I lived there for 11 years and you go to Napa value, which I was there and you understand the blends, But until you do that mark from program how just you keep your trap shut? Mitchell had to say there. Go ahead, Mark. I mean, that was just a bunch of rambling with no actual like content. It was, you know of any value. Um, I travel the world again. This is my profession. Credentials. Where? What countries? Have you been to all of Italy? France, Spain. Many of the wine countries, Chris all the one countries. Okay, South America. So again, I come with 15 plus years of expertise and restaurants and also working for an important I don't want to get an Erdogan in the nerd out on wine, because that's not what you're or definitely here for. Yeah, my closing my closing piece of it. Why into California? Unfortunately, the worst value in in the one get the best values are going to come from Spain, Italy a little bit of South America, even in France, believe or not, but in America at the capitalistic, Uh Venture or whatever, so there's no There's very little value in wine America. It's all about marketing and not paying for what's actually inside the bottle. So, uh, find find other great value items in Europe winds with higher acid lower alcohol less You know, Jamie this they'll they'll pair better with food again, Mitchell. You've got nothing on me and that you can ramble on for hours and hours, and it won't want It won't faze me one bit again. I complimented you for your sports commentary. Um, but anyhow Uh, hang on. Hold in case we need to go back to you. So that's mark in Buffalo Grove. Kids for a final thought Mark did point out. He is not name calling. So, Mitchell, we go back to your response. Market outlook. I hate to bring this to you. Okay, but unfortunately you're part of what I call third party. Okay, uh, when I called triangle basically type of business, Okay. You don't look in retail. How can you possibly say that wines from California have no value? Do you know you're not cutting a real promo here? I mean, what is this? You need to go Randy Savage on the dude. I mean, come on. We're trying to have a sophisticated conversation here. Why? Talking, whines. How could you guys possibly How could one say how can mark from Buffalo Grove possibly say that the lines in California are not up to par to realize that the funds man, we all got different ones? I am just listening. He's talking about the international market as if it's basically a snob. You could take a snarky, snobby attitude and shove it where the sun don't shine. I'm saying that this I bring value. There are lots of consumers that treat Peter Landmark Impossible broke and they want a good day of what happened to shoppers. Billy's okay. I don't want to go to you don't want to go to 7 11 convenience stores and when the independent with your Eckhard said, level multiple marketing, as I'm sure that's what the ideas are coming from it. Insulting beyond that, but his thing I like the fact that Mark and buckle, bro watch the compare and contrast my ideas, But I'll give you this right now. Martin Public up any time you want to get together, okay, we can do. This is a problem or whatever in the future, All right, we'll get together with some lions, and I'll guarantee you that I'll tell you what people in the masses or love the value that I drink from every week and by the way marks in Buffalo Grove. I haven't heard one thing about one particular brands that you suggested whenever there would be a value to this to this list. Thing audience and I'll leave it there and by the markings on the ground If you don't quit your day job, you live in a fantasy world. Okay, It's got to go to what I call living at home with your parents. I hope it's working out for your well alright. That's Mitchell disappoints. Hold on Mitchell, Mark Monster fun Would you like to get real quick, real quick, Mitchell explains. I'm the vice president and one of the finest import companies in the United States. So when it comes to this topic, I definitely have more credibility than you. And the story I don't live. My parents also live in a nice house here in Buffalo goes, I pay for my own. So, um And then Mark West, by the way, is a brand you can find in Walgreens in 7 11. And I don't want to talk about brands because professional I'd rather people seek out regions to understand That's what they like. Don't just follow a brands like wearing a recipe. You don't want to cook anything. You just wanna recipe Don't just learn a brand learning learning region where the category figure out what you like there and then you move forward. But I'll leave it there, you guys Oh, yeah. If you guys want to hook me up with his information, I'd love to get in contact with him on the on the side and and run intellectual circles around him. When it comes to wine, so sports radio station ever hosted a wine tasting? Can we never wine? Can we have a wine tasting here? Could we do that as a bunch of things and we'll figure out who's best. Whose palate wins..

"It's tradition that when you have to restart recording. Somebody has to pointed out right. of course can't no no. They must know that this is the second time we're taking this of course know that we've done all this. We've already set all these jokes at this. This enthusiasm right here. it's all a show. It's it's all it's almost like a loop of return it's so on brand. We did dornbush. Thank you for having me on this. Podcast podcast beyond. It's been a while. And i'm happy to see you happy to have you back. Work also joined this week by mitchell. Saltzman mitchell welcome to the show. Thanks for having me during bush. This is the first time that i've been on a podcast. A podcast mark. Medina amanda. I've done your hours and hours of carpool rights. We basically have had our own podcasts. In the car rides to and from aegean so this is exciting. Day for me. This guy yeah. I didn't realize that until you pointed that out that you're like yeah. We're going to be on beyond together and i was like okay so the first time we've been podcast together. I'm like that can't be right with a lotta livestreams together but yeah i guess not a podcast. All right. that's what you should have been recording. Those commutes because everything in your life content. That's just the thought about it. Said they couldn't be. It's like leonardo di caprio brad pitt. Being in a movie together they said that you can't get mark mitchell on a podcast together but dornbush made it happen. I guess that makes me the quentin tarantino. Joe is a really complex road. I don't know if i want to go down these for the audience. These are new jokes. I gotta say this is very ones or new. This last one i send pumped up the material. All it needed was a quick polish before we get into the the main topic of the show which is going to be a spoiler. Free breakdown of our launch impressions for returnable. mitchell reviewed. It and we'll get to that in just a little bit. I do want to briefly mentioned some news that we're gonna fly through even quicker than we did last time But the news that. I'm bringing up very quickly. Is that Next week as playstation plus games that will be available include battlefield v which is the one after battlefield one because numbers. Am i right trying to think what was that was the four v and i could not think of it. I love the energy of the shah battlefield the or five stranded deep those are both for. Ps four and backward compatible of course. I'm ps five and then playstation. Five owners get wreck fest. Which sounds like. I'm saying breakfast incorrectly. But wreck vest about cars. I in addition to that. It's worth mentioning that the. Ps five has outsold the ps four in. Its first fiscal year on sale by by a bit of a slim margin but the playstation five sold seven point eight million units since its launch an ending in march thirty first of this year Which outpaces the ps four. seven point. Six million a difference about two hundred thousand in the same period sony had projected the ps five would be the playstation for Obviously not a specific number there but It's definitely good to see especially at a time when it's so hard to get the dang thing Before we jump into return. Mitchell start with you this time this things any quick thoughts about either topic before we jump in now not really a the those those playstation plus games don't do really anything for me and the sales numbers are a little bit surprising considering the fact that you know. It's it's still very hard to find a playstation five And also. I think it's a little bit so this is a new fact. I didn't put the less recording. But i think it's also a little bit surprising. Because even though i would say that the playstation five has a strong launch lineup demon. Souls is really the. I think the pinnacle of the watch lineup. The rest of the stuff is just mostly stuff that you can still kinda get that experience on a last gen. Consul western council and returnable really marks. The first really really big playstation five exclusive after launch. So the the the selection of playstation five isn't super super super strong in terms of stuff. They can only get on the playstation five. So it's a little bit surprising but you know that's that's the world video games. There are a couple things quickly wanna point to there. You mentioned the playstation five and mark so mark. How do you feel about the topic as nice to get a shout from mitchell Yeah no i think. I think it surprising figuring that they. They are very hard to find. But i i'm not surprised at all by the want for them Made a joke awhile back about how if you play your playstation for you play playstation five but you mainly play. Ps four games. Which most of us do. It's basically just a ps four pro. Max right it's just and to me. That's kinda worth it on. Its own especially now. All these games are getting upgrades I love ps five. It sounds like most people. Fps five so it's not surprising to see at selling so well Something super weird as we went into target the other day and on the shelf with the media remotes and the pulse headset. And it's it's weird to see. I live in a less populated area than than a lot of people. But it's weird to see some of those pop up on the shelf just sitting there Seeing as i struggled super hard to get the pulse headset. no consuls. yeah. I don't know when that's ever gonna happen as far as the games go. I think it's gonna talk about xbox on your playstation podcast per second year the little rough to see a battlefield five. Whoa everybody's muted all of a sudden. I dunno if that's good or bad. I don't hear anybody. Can you hear anyways. I. it's It's a little rough to see battlefield. Five come to you the playstation plus right after xbox announcements that all of those games got one twenty hertz support for the xbox series x. I love me some twenty hertz. And hopefully playstation five figures that out for sure Yeah it's definitely we're gonna see this pop up more and more of the the advancements in sort of the catalog that is just there. Obviously they're not a one service but between game pass and playstation plus. I think we're gonna see a lot of discussion earth and the different services approaches. And how much they're gonna benefit both carsl. We'll say we've had to really really good months for this one to be a little slower than a month. Where actual games are coming out. I think it's the perfect time for. Ps blessed be a little slower. It's you gotta have some quieter months to have the great ones. Otherwise can you know the difference but but speaking of great ones. We're going to be talking about a great game today. And that game is returnable. As i mentioned we're gonna keep it spoiler free anything. Sort of in trailers or preview coverage mitchell's review is fair game. But we're not going to spoil the end of the game or get too deep into the nitty gritty of that stuff. Want to let the players out there. Be able to experience it for themselves at mitchell mark and i have all been playing the game and can speak to mitchell. Of course you reviewed it. So i want to sort of thirty first to just get your sort of high level Sorta top view of what you felt about the game yeah I like this game a lot in terms of you know it being a house mark game. It's kind of a kind of hits. All those those boxes that you would expect from a house mark game. The kambas phenomenal. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous. In terms of the effects. And just the general feeling you get by blowing stuff up in this game is is amazing and you have man how smart. They're so good at the style of game when it comes to lake bullet hell fast paced combat with an vulnerable dash..

"You know he'd never quite lost that fan boy side of them in here he is. You know all politics to bruce mitchell marking out over meeting these that he was listening to growing up as a kid Some of them. Even though jericho's become a bigger name than a lot of these musicians ever were even in their prime. They you know they don't give a damn about him and they aren't afraid to make him feel like he's a foot tall and so it's it's a pretty. It's a comical read. I mean it's it's similar to the style of the first book. He's got a good sense of humor. I've thought he was going to go. I i for the first few chapters and like oh man tone down on the ponds. This is just too much and i was worried. He was trying to break. Foley's record but you know by the time i was john. H this really was a a good overall book. And i think people are going to enjoy it. Excellent final subject for jason a few thoughts on sundays. Tna pay per view Once you get watching the rock promo code feels like a distant memory even though it was literally less than four forty eight hours ago That the whole event took place In any headlines coming out of that show inconsequential. I just i watched tna now and even when i find a match that i can enjoy if the work is there. There's always something that i just makes me feel like. Wow this company's just low budget and You know the the the tna title looking like it does Putting the title belt on a guy who's going to court to face drug trafficking on wednesday Jeff jarrett and kurt angle. Go out there and have this really good match and then angled decides to retire for the second time in like two months and we're supposed to take that seriously it's still overbook A lot of the guys that should feel like bigger deals and tna. Just don't anymore i. It's just a poorly book company. I it's a frustrating company to follow and and hope that they do well. Because you know it's it's the old one step forward to step back philosophy with them and I just don't know if it's ever going to change it. You know as long as dixie. Carter continues to employ vince russo. As the head writer. I just don't see this changing and so even though maybe by teena- standards this was a decent paper view. By the time. I was the show ended. I was so happy was over. I mean i. I just couldn't shake that feeling like thank god. This is finally done. I just it's frustrating to watch. And i just been through too many times where they do something good and and you you start to get optimistic. And the impact rolls around the next impact rolls around and they do something so idiotic and insane. You're just you know whatever goodwill they generated from one positive show is just a race to because they just proven time and time again. They can't book quality television on a consistent basis if your wrestling fan you a fan of a good story in if you're looking for a good story look no further than stories of your and yours. 'cause she's worried that something's gonna happen to johnny marcelo. Santos keeps hinting. That he's gonna take johnny off the board and even johnny was like you didn't bring santos in our list. You're like johnny knows that sandra news so there's a lot going on here so yeah. So sailor shady players on the board right here and sailor gets a little senses a disturbance in the force so he goes to before he knows right so so we essentially they leave north carolina. They go to cal. They head to california but they. I stopped new orleans and then then they go on the road again and they ended up in big tuna. Sorry occurred to try to keep the the timeline straight. So so does he go like after getting a wind of this. Do you think that he goes to data at this point. Or is that late. Add when he goes when he gets yes so pretty because apparently they knew each other back in the day supposedly they made some deal that okay. If the i'll tell you if there's a hit out on you that you tell me if there's a hit out of the me exactly they have this deal that if they ever got word of each other right demise contract each other they would give each other the heads up and it almost looks like you know. She lives in the apartment that laura palmer lives in at the end of the return. Yes i was just thinking mary joint. Yeah that's That's a what's her name's. I don't know maybe killed by santos who knows so apparently So was it Marietta ends up getting with johnny in new orleans and win. Johnny asked if santos is involved. She denies it but that friend but they're apparently they're gonna like they were going to go up to the room and they apparently going to have sex but johnny has stopped by his and when he goes to his room he gets he gets kidnapped by the hit squad because yes santos is involved. Yes and they take they torture the crap out of him and do like freaky kind of get off on it. A little bit between john and stuck in the middle with you kind of stuff. Yeah pretty much. Yeah it does. It does get a little bit reservoir dogs. Yes and i gotta say charles. Yes i think in real life. Diane ladd inheriting. Stan would have made couple right. I i think is just a couple. I agree they make here couple. Yes they do. If it if it wasn't for daylight being bat shit crazy you know at least in this movie. Yeah you'd be you know he'd be much better. I don't know how she has a real life but she's a dining ladd is a very Just just teasing by the way now. Note that you bring something up. It's interesting diet. land a was on the tv. Astronauts help tiller story interesting. Amer had some interesting stuff going on. Yeah seriously right. That's interesting so so on the way on the trying to go out to you. California the end up you know. This is where they come across the car accident. They're driving at night and lynch does his trademark driving at night headlights on the road. Oh yeah yeah. The david lynch headlights on the road. One of my favorites one of his favorite Go to's As far as imagery and so this yeah this is where we they. They see the rack they pull over and they check out to see what's happened. In on sudden sherline fed comes stumbling out off offscreen into the into shot. She's all like bloody and curtis rambling a little bit. Kinda like me right now and know much much much worse. Yeah purely like soula. Lula says you know. She's dying right in front of us. It's very very tragic arms. Die right in front of them. It's it's horrible and sherwin fan on my gosh showing ben does. I cannot say enough. How wonderful of a performance should he gives them this cheese so perfect. She's so so tragic. Just that she rips she rips your heart out through. Austral's is obviously david lynch got to know her from the twin peaks pilot so he probably thought she would be great for the scene and sure enough she was so she dies right there. Sailor says okay well. We can't really do anything. Let's go so they get back in the car. it's kind of. It's kind of a loss of innocence moment because up until this point just been having a good time. Lula has essentially been this kind of very limit. Monroe esque innocence and what. Lula's like just now eighteen. Just now sympathetic. Yeah but she's she's constantly as she puts it hotter than georgia asphalt harbinger love. I love that quote in this up until now they've just been going in and out of hotel right sex glad to see each other listening to their favorite band. It's not if they don't. She was tightly. Get room we get upset because the car radio had news on that she didn't like there's her yeah she's like she gets out of the car and like saying sale. You get us some music all that radio right now or i will just lose. My mind is not yet. So and i don't think i think so. This is a big moment for her. It's a it's a big moment for her. And i think that sailor knows that Yes taylor knows at marietta is going to cause problems but they both know that. But i think sailor knows that there might be more problems than lula. Knows there's going to be right like renault's oh yeah my mom's probably sending johnny after us blah blah blah blah blah. But sailor probably knows like janis.

"Lgbtq so it's it doesn't have as many of those creatures in the wild. I'm just loving this metaphor because silicon valley from what i've read about it is very much a young blokes kind of young white blows kind of environment. That sort of the stereotypical look in terms of. Who's there you know. Headed up by mark zuckerberg has the poster child. Is that sort of what you're talking about. Like sort of a little bit much of that kind of animal in the zoo. Yeah are americans allowed to save. Blow is just did on ordination a while so so yes a and that way. Silicon valley also has been addiction to is structure. And so what. I've lived into in one of the reasons why been successful. Silicon valley is. I also believe zoe that the valley wants to get disproportionate returns in so you can only have one group creating all the wealth all the opportunity for so long and then you need new energy you need new markets so one of the things that i tell a lot of the underdogs that i mentor. Is that at some play. You know you can only have so many scooter companies. You can only have so many uber's for you can only have so many of those companies and you have to go outside like a tremendous number of ai. Companies food delivery and in all the kind of traditional companies. But i've also seen a new crop of companies focus that you know hair care for african-americans for women's health care and women's reproductive reproductive-health companies begin to crop up that are more underdog oriented if that makes sense so i think there is a desire to have more than the mark. Mitchell mark zuckerberg if lose as an archetype because those new people represent new market opportunities. If that makes sense absolutely does. I love that. That's a truism and a truth from silicon valley gives me hope actually that we're not doomed to repeat the old cycles we just get stuck in the status quo and it's a bit of an irony really that you have.

"So You know I'm actually pretty happy, but it's a good place to to take. We'll see what Sam darnold on. D. I I can't remember what you said. Are you on Herndon this year? For as far as where he's going? He's not going near as high as as he was last year. Right now, eleven twelve. It's tight end twenty one. Yeah I like her in that spot I mean he's one of those players where you're firing off at three ends. Why not say? One, of the upsides, right, yeah, speaking of that Mitchell Mark Andrews I mean we haven't talked about this on the show, but there is a little bit of concern. Mark, Andrews has a some sort of underlying. How type one diabetes type one diabetes? So there is a you know it's a non zero chance. He opts out and he has. He has already said he's actually this. He said he was on all, but. Yeah Yeah Yeah, go ahead frank. What? Yeah, I saw the same thing you get I, you know if he said he was gonna play, you know things can change and. You know I'm sure. A lot of players are gonNA take off in fact I have A. You know discounted some of that I. Mean it's hard to factor in like what a player's GonNa save you hear news on factor in, but I'm pretty high on the Andrews this year and if You know a couple of drafts done the Lamar. Mark Andrew Stack. That's my trickle unique but You know we'll see see if it pays off later. Yeah he a Andrews. he F- F-. PC players are still drafting. No, it's tight, three three, zero six. Do you know and I I was talking to Bryce and and Erin. With at work about this I. Didn't know this Mark Andrews. Prix's finger thirty times during a football game because he's constantly monitoring as glucose. That's what he normally does. I thought they figured out where you can just put. You have some sort of monitor, but you have to hear his iphone around That's that's an issue. and I don. I would not advise checking that. Well you know Randall Cobb were that you up for a game? And he wore that Mike Pack, or whatever and he got hit really hard, and you got Bruce. Bruised ribs or got the wind knocked out, or he missed the game. Because it really yeah I, don't know. Yeah, you don't want him to. Pack. It wasn't an iphone it was. It was a Mike Pat but I'm just saying like you don't want. Mark Andrews running around out there with his iphone You know even if it's not his as soon as spotify and having had maybe that would, that would get them juiced up I. Don't you know if there's no fans in the stands this year you gotta? Maybe they're gonNA be playing music music. Yes, yeah, some some post Malone. Damn work the same rambling beats. Yes, exactly frank had an interesting approach to lasts football. Guys draft Oh. Yeah, you know what your top two receivers in that Lee of real life teammates in Amari Cooper and Michael, Gel what was the strategy and picking them in the fourth and fifth rounds, and by the way is fifth round a little early for Gal both you eighty over the last four days on spring. Michael Gallup has has been going at the six twelve seven. Also one's a little or Really sure go ahead. Yeah, yeah, yeah I! Mean it's kind of embarrassing. I forgot like this draft, which is really atypical. It was gonNA. Be on the show so traditionally. If you look at every other draft I'm kind of a tier based value-based drafter. But I kind of blame the to you for this. I acquired something. I call stacking anxiety disorder. We can call it the sad for short This year like I'm on twitter, I follow all the pop. Really elite players want out from them. And every day I look at twitter's like I. got this stack I got that stack. You just missed the stack. You'RE GONNA win the league because of the stack. And then I listened to the podcast. You're podcast and others and guests. We're talking about the stack, and and and I stack all the time and s I. Think you you Kinda have to. But I don't really get the you know. We asked people like why. Stacking all the time I went to correlation, but correlations worked both ways, and you know when a season-long head to head believes three championship I've just never I've actually done on the other end of stacking that Sunday last Sunday at three PM had a coffee was in my truck. Listening to a podcast and and I realized I have zero stacks I'm completely stack lists. This season and drove home jumped in the four PM draft. Just, at the tail, end of drafts, every pigs getting forced up around, but I just I walk into that draft. With kind of the mindset. I'm going to create a Dallas. Stack really liked the offense. And Yeah, so that that's Kinda. What happens so? There's probably people in your traveling. You know I'm sure the word clown and donkey have been used, but it's not not only talking. you know on the players? Though this is talk about the players I'm not really. I'm not against Mari. I've got a few shares. You know I think in worry probably pays off at twelve ADP kind of a thing. My worry about a mortgage obviously just goes missing. Sometimes. It's like it's like capital incinerator. You know you gotTa League and like you know you think. Maybe he's hurt you check your score I'm actually really high on Gallup. So I jumped up to take him back in power because of my. Crazy affliction out acquired You know I think Alex can take a really big step for even the land there a lot of bacon targets. And just so you know this is my. We're talking about my one and only stack, but I, you know. I gotta stack so gay from. You get. You get Dak Prescott as well as you said. Yeah Antoni power. Just you know when you're on the turn you all around and. I came to the draft that. Was One of those Kinda horrifying moments like you've decided to do something then you do it. And then he just Kinda move on with life, and I probably contributed to. Someone. I ask you a good value for hooper though. Percy that's fine I. I would say that that's probably accurate. I'm just going late third or early He is oops. That's Cooper Mario Cooper three twelve Check the thirty three I know off hand. I don't first of all I. Don't think that this is I. Don't think you should be penalizing yourself too badly for something like this I. Think I talked about this like a month or so ago on on the show to dress. I've done this year. I did a ram stack with Golf Woods and COP, and which I think pales in comparison to. His Terrible. Yeah, I, know but and then the other one I did was Ryan Ridley and Julio Jones when I like a little bit better but I mean. Like crushing it and Prescott, you know I is able to do for a full season what he did for most of the season last year I mean. These. Guys are big. I don't know what their schedules like we fourteen through sixty and I should check that out, but I mean that could end up paying off big time. I WanNa ask you a frank. Regarding your Dallas love. A lot of people are pumping up CD lamb lately. Why are you high gala this year? as a guy, you wanna go after one roster. Yeah I like I like CD as well. We have a rookie coming in I mean. He's like highly touted. They jumped up to get him so I could see him doing well, too. I just think Gallup show last year with his production. and and that he could make take a step forward and here points like when I would get this offense if things go well. It's a high octane offense. Oh, you wanNA piece of it I mean Gallup is. You know pretty ADP it's usually going wet round the six, maybe seventh round. you know I? Think you could pay that off pretty handsomely so I'm a fan. So I have a question for both. How we take any one of the three I've I've taken CD as well. Okay all right. All Right? I just came to me as A. You're talking about stacking so I'm.

"We're presenting something out of the ordinary with the baseball season on hold because of the Corona Virus Pandemic. We're going to play. Ap BA apple between northern California and Southern California with all the great major league players from throughout the state and someone from the chronicle and someone else from the Los Angeles. Times will manage the best of seven series. We'll discuss how this will transpire and how you the fans and listeners can vote for both teams by going on. Sf CHRONICLE DOT COM AND LA TIMES DOT COM from now until may seventeenth. The results will be announced. May twenty-first and on May twenty sixth. It'll be time to play ball. Well hello everyone. This is John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. And I'm with Bruce Jenkins of the chronicle and Steve Hanson of the Los Angeles Times. Now we're diving into something that has never really been done as far as I know. But we're GONNA play Apple. You know the old card and dice game but at a whole different and creative some might say goofy manner it's northern California or Southern California and one of the most important elements is having listeners. That means all of you out there. Everyone in the sound of my voice basically and I guess that's the entire universe vote for the rosters and you can do it at Chronicle Dot Com L. A. Times dot com and details will be in this podcast in in stories posted online and print but And it's GONNA BE FASCINATING STUFF. So let's bring our team representatives aboard the managers. I assume Bruce Jenkins from northern California and Stevenson from southern California. Are you guys doing in well? You know we've got. We're going all the way back to thousand nine hundred years so it's not like you know today's best against the southern California. Stay where we're going back to the left. He'll do you'll black here if you want them on your team and everybody's card everybody's APP card shows him in their best year. So you got Ted Williams at four zero six it's et Cetera. Very bonded seventy three homers. And it's based on where they grew up so you might have or in Texas or whatever a really good example. I mean you couldn't have a northern California team that Frank Robinson Ricky Henderson Willie stargell all those guys were born in other states but they moved to northern California when they were young. And that's the whole basis of the thing that came up with is about where you grew up where you learn the game at Cetera. Steve has ridiculous team. What's your some of the things at Steve's known the southern California well yeah you know I? I don't think you're going to be throwing a no hitter against this with that. Williams nineteen forty one. Zero six Tony Gwynn three ninety six in one thousand nine hundred ninety four George Brent three ninety in his best year to you know these guys that had that had that woman out liar phenomenal season. Those guys were great. Blair's every every year and they're they're obviously all hall of famers but there's a few guys on the ballot that are on because they had one unbelievable season and And that's what you're looking at us a voter. You're looking at the the best season for each player. An interesting example. I got here is You Know Arc. Yvonne you nineteen thirty five. He was a shortstop for the Pittsburgh. Wiretaps and nineteen thirty five. He led the league with a three eighty five batting average. Four ninety one on base percentage and six. Oh seven slugging percentage. You let you let in all three categories even though back in thirty five nobody was calculating on base percentage but Any at nineteen home. And you know you talk about where you were born and what You know what does that matter? Were arche blonde? Was Actually born in Eagle Ville California which is as North as you can get. It's right up in the northeast border in Motor County California but as luck would have it for my team is family moved to Fullerton when he was real young and he went to high school in Fullerton and any spent his formative years. I think that was the phrase. Bruce used to categorize these guys in southern California. So arche Vaughn and has and his three eighty five batting average At shortstop gets to play for so cal stat of Northern California even though he was born and died and buried in Eagle Ville California will. Is There Zara Line drawn in the middle of the state I mean? Who GETS TOM SEAVER? Who GETS MY COSTS? More importantly I drew at Fresno so horny got there are many other people from Fresno ball but that seems like a logical split. That's how we're doing enough. Yeah Fair enough which we got San Diego and San Diego gave colleen so yeah definitely well. This is pretty exciting stuff. It's going to be a seven game. Series and fans will determine the listeners will determine the rosters and Bruce who came up with this great idea about All the names it originally. I think we're GONNA roll the Dyson drawcards GonNa be a little bit more You know some some technology involved but rosters will go thirty four deep three players at every position. That's twenty four plus ten pitchers so that's thirty. Four guys in managers going to run the game The Great John Miller will weigh in with some I liked and I hope he uses his Vin scully voice when the highlights favored the southland but Bruce most important question I have for you is we. Were we able to rent the GOODYEAR BLIMP? We've got the HINDENBURG which is almost okay. Some distance from the stadium. We hope we got APPA players. You know how it is rolling the dice in flipping their cards and looking at the boards and originally when it's going to be just like against John Shea claims like Santana series but the chronicle executives got word. This is GonNa wait a minute. We gotTA expand this next. You know we've got the LA times involved which is fantastic in Houston Mitchell. Down there Contacted the people and they're gonNA supply every I had most of them at. They've got all of them with the game online so everybody can watch it It's IT'S GONNA be. It's a fantastic extension of the original idea. John Miller is definitely on board. He actually called me a couple of days ago. We still do it. That'll be at the end after the series is over. We're GONNA podcast running down highlights. John's got away with some of the some of the bigger plate. So it's pretty cool and it'll be a US two seven right Bruce. Well how long would that take along with seven games or even four-game steak well if I for serious. Atm players like using myself. Who Pretty much memorize the boards game and ten minutes. But what's fun and that and I don't know how the online thing works. How long their game steak if it's rapid fire or you have time between each way but you know you wanna you want to expand it you know while cider grounded out the second or were you. We're going to put the hit and run on here. I'm GonNa Bring Pitcher. I mean I think more like the closer to a half an hour twenty minutes. I have to know how a PBA works it online. I never played their computerized version. But it's certainly not three hours and five minutes Drew all these candidates up how I mean were there some. You left off that you said man. I wish I didn't leave Moss that I didn't leave anybody off. I mean the list born California outfielders well beyond ten. I went through the basic pedia. I must have gone through it a dozen times just to see who are really significant players in the history of this game and where are they from And if you were significant player I've got a named Willie Kamm on my team. Who who the heck wants to? He is a real mainstay in very significant player. Great Defensive Player in the nineteen twenties and a guy who really made a difference. Is Ethel a great but I? I learned that he's a guy that really made a difference again. Most guys You know I don't think there are too many people that fans are GonNa go. Wait a minute now. I mean like somebody might say. Where'S BRAND CRAWFORD? He's he just doesn't figure in the in the northern California shortstops have those. They hit so well. Yeah it. It just dawned on me that Barry Bonds could go up against bobby bonds right you got that right it and how do you how do you how do you because I always thought Barry Bonds is best year was nineteen ninety-three while that's And because he did it all manny it home runs and drew so basis played the outfield a five tool guy. And how do you determine which year was a guys best role? It's tough in some cases. I threw it all out to Steve and he actually changed a couple with that was great. You know what if you want bonds in ninety three you got a PB will supply that. I was thinking about Ricky Henderson. The Erie's school you know. Set the stolen base record but in one thousand nine hundred ninety yet just this monster year with a lot more power and everything else and more. Mvp consideration so the managers definitely can say hold on. I'd like a different season. Steve How do you? How do you determine certain guys like I mean Kent was raised in Southern California. He went to Kelly played for the giants. But he's on your team right. Yeah could we could feel an entire team of players from southern California who starred for Northern California teams for either the giants Red Flags Bobby Bonds Kevin Mitchell mark. Maguire J T snow Jason. Deal Jeff. Ken Matt Williams. Evan Longoria match happen. Rollie fingers ROBB Nen. I mean my crew go back. There's a lot of. There's a lot of guys that grew up in southern California. And they are they are. They are northern California baseball players. You know everybody associates done with with Northern California but for the purposes of this gate. Where do they spent their quote unquote formative years? They are they are so cal guys of. Yeah so yeah go ahead. I'm sorry I was just going to say you know Bruce did a great job Putting compiling the right guys. Now that's Bruce. I do have a couple of guys I'd like to swap out of if it's okay with you. Absolutely what are your at there? Okay so like in our outfield. I wanted to add tim. Salmon nineteen ninety-five where he hit three thirty and thirty four.

"That's what we're out here for today. Getting set to watch practice and we'll give you a couple of players to watch out four from the NFL PA collegiate bull bull here in just a little bit but buck we got a bunch of other stuff on the docket. Today's man so much other stuff to talk about. I mean when you think about the NFL. In the news cycle there win is championship weekend weekend and I was just a lot of conversation. Goes on with that. And shows like the press conferences leading up but man so much news pop and we had the Carolina Panthers Dominating mandating the headlines We'll talk about that. lewke retiring Joe Brady being hired as the offensive coordinator. We obviously have to the conference championships. Webster and then you know the Tennessee Titans in the emergence of Derrick Henry. Coming out of college some of those things and then finally we talked about identify. PA Collegiate bowl being able to talk about some of these prospects being on the call. I'm really excited to see. Some of these guys had a chance to talk to those guys on Monday so does give chance to see them. Do It on the grass S.. I'm excited about at all. I was out here on Tuesday for their practices and all should mention Mitchell Mark Ross is gonNA join us in the booth on Saturday Omar. Ruiz has been out here all week. He'll be down on the field. Oh forces are sideline reporter really excited for that. But let's start with the news out of Carolina in first. Let's give the proper respect to Luke keithly retiring hiring at the age of twenty eight made announcement in a video that the Carolina Panthers sent out on twitter. We're talking about a guy who played eight years in the League over a thousand tackles. Also I mean he was a big play machine and the amount of respect that poured in from across the League about what not only. What a football player? This dude was one of the best. The game has seen but would a teammate. He was bugging would a would a guy in person he is off the field Man if I'm his parents I'm pretty proud today. Look they should be very proud of the man of the year. The team did he was with the Carolina Panthers and even at Boston College sure and the player that he was in terms of the production into performance that he put on the field and eight years. Look Bar none. He is one of the best that has played in this generation. I ah when you talk to people around the organization they will tell you that he was outstanding leader he had all the football instincts. IQ that you desire. Men deleted the team him he was able to set the defense communicate everything and the way that he played like he was a great athlete. Anyone who watched him at the combine win came out he'd lit up to combine from his athletic standpoint but then when you combine that athleticism with the instinct. She talked about a guy that plays fast Unique in his ability to play like a Tasmanian Devil but also understand the game at a high level. It's hard to find players who have all those traits. More than lived up is billing as the ninth overall. Pick back in the twenty twelve updraft the Carolina Panthers made an immediate impact in just a terrific player. And I think it speaks volumes when the guys you compete against compliment you about how. How much more? They had to put into their preparation in the week leading up to. I think we saw that from Micheal Thomas. Yes mentioned that J.. J. Watt commit juju Smith Schuster recalled a couple of specific place in giving a little tribute on social media to leuke clues like man. I don't know where you came from but you you knew where we were going and you knew how to find me and bring me it was that was nuts. It is no and I and I think for the Carolina Panthers potentially. You're talking about a complete rebuild in terms of an end error. Because if you have leuke cly who is retiring defense. Yeah you speculation about Greg Olsen Tyronn and then end decision that is looming out there. Cam Newton The team that we see tried out Bank of America Stadium Twenty twenty could be a completely different Brin unit than the ones that we've grown accustomed to seeing run out already. We'll be different on the sidelines You can lead us into the next point but just to just to wrap up on keithly. He was the defensive rookie of the year next year. He was the defensive player of the year. Seven time pro bowler and a five time. All pro. Certainly wish him the best in retirement. I imagine this is not the last we hear of Luke Kuechley dominating some sort of field his next career will look look forward to that all right. Let's get into that. That news that you kind of let us into their also on the Carolina Panthers Sideline Joe Brady Day After winning the national championship the Lsu Tigers as their passing game coordinator in just one year with the Tigers Then gets courted to Carolina from new head coach Matt Rule to be their offensive coordinator. Break this down for me. Low Man this is a big move as a major jump Obviously his name had a lot of buzz and a lot of tension attached to it anytime you see. LSU play the way they played this year. Like I mean we have looked at SCC SEC football for longtime it's Kinda hot bit for NFL prospects coming a team that has always traditionally been loaded. They play like they were loaded. Issue this your Joe Borough having maybe the greatest season that we've seen of any college quarterback the skill players putting up big numbers and this offense basically carrying the LSU tigers to the title job ready got a lot of credit for that the changes daddy made coming in as a passing game quarter coordinator and also the wide receiver coach. You saw those things and so there. There's a lot That he could add to the Carolina Panthers situation obviously being creative and innovative in being able to the mix what I call is basically a hybrid system When I looked at the LSU tigers and I wash them? I sent some of the stuff. That Joe Moyer's did did for years at Penn State and some of the stuff that Joe Brady was able to steal from the New Orleans. Saints and Sean Payton and I think he kinda was able to blend it together because this team could could mix in. RPO's can make into empty passing aimed at drew brees made famous. They can do to four vertical stuff. Did you rees. Also specialize in dumping it off to the running backs ex- they had all of that and I think the college football world was unprepared to face this offense so it will be interesting to see how a thirty year old office coordinator who basically ascended from being a penn state. Five years ago handles The responsibilities awesome abilities that go along with being the offense coordinator play call their With some of the other things that he has to do in terms of personnel man. Is that some of the things that you've heard as yeah you know having conversations with a couple of offense coordinators in the League. They say the biggest challenge that he will face will be one personnel deployment because the small size of the rosters. In what you have available. How are you able to craft your offense? When you're number one guy goes down like do you have enough off in the repertoire to be able to continue to sustain it office to? They talked about his ability to understand past protections at a deeper level The schemes teams that he will face the coordinators he will face will throw a bunch of different things at him and if he only sits and runs the same pass protection and runs a variety of replays like they do in the college game. They'll quickly sniff them out. And you'll have to make adjustments and they also said the big thing will be. How can you command the room? Not only with players but with other coaches guys who are more experienced than him He has to direct and guide and delegate things thanks to and You know so so as the law so it's a big job. It's a big job for him but the good thing is he's linked with the head coach. US Six or seven years on the to do so. Hopefully they can grow together as you kind of navigate through some missed very early job. No question that's going to be fun to watch. I mean we we. We kind of saw something similar as the economy with Kingsbury and taking a little bit to kind of get up to speed in acclimated to the things that he's starting to see on the NFL. Not Seeing it can't be done but it will be challenging. I and they and they've got the time to figure it out. And hopefully they do because what we saw from Bray Brady's impact in imprint on the LSU offense this year was nothing short of spectacular spectacular. And from what I understand that may not have worked at other major stops in college football with with personnel wise. Just talking about borough as a true true processor of information and a guy that doesn't need to go out there and do it as much. Yeah in practice. I mean like you show it to a couple of times and he's going to go out there and do it which I think is really exactly what you would expect from a coach's son and so I'm not doing this completely about Joe Borough but yeah like some of that and being a play call is very much like playing video games if your quarterback is a functioning in a high level joystick. It really allows you as the coordinated to do more things to expand the playbook because he can't process it in kind of directed and carry it out this year from Lsu. We saw A guy who is I mean. It was absolutely dealing the entire seizure. The Way Jober or played played at high level and it Kinda is like waiting for Cinderella the clock strike midnight but never did on Joe Borough and and so now that you have Joe Brady who was able to kind of leverage that opportunity to an opportunity in the enough in the NFL we will see how. How can he continue to to expand because everyone is going to study? LSU tape all of these NFL defense coordinators Washington there because they expect to see that. So what does he have next. What are the other pitches is that he has he has in the repertoire and LSU still in pretty good hands remember? Steven Singer was calling the plays for the most part as the true offense coordinator there and Lsu and as far as we know we'll we'll be back next year so looking forward to seeing Lsu's titled Defense as well as a fun game to watch on Monday night all right. Let's take a quick look. You're at the conference championships. Because talking about this all week here I'll give you a quick takeaway for me a preview and then and then give me what you got here. Let's start in the NFC with the packers in the niners course a rematch of the regular season matchup that that the forty niners absolutely dominated to me bucky. This comes down to the packers ability to stop the run because we know that's what the forty niners WanNa do. I mean you heard. Yeah Shanahan in the locker room after the Vikings Games like we want to run we wanted to run it. Thirty Times waited Brunner forty seven times. That's because they're successful doing you. Don't just line open run. Forty seven times in one two yard gains. They were getting chunk. Place that's what they're built on and then Ken Green Bay protect Aaron Rodgers. That's really what it comes down to here because all those five first rounders on that on that front for the niners every one of them had a sack kirk cousins in the divisional round. So those two things to me are really the biggest thing in this game big responsibility For the Green Bay packers defense when it comes to stop in this run game that no one has been able to really slow slowdown in corral. three hundred monster at running back with Coleman Mostert and Brita then you have Jimmy Garoppolo being able to effectively off play-acting..

"When I asked John about the difference between then and now he said it was much worse than the thing about John was that he was always authentic and what he had to say. He can be very self-critical very quickly. We got along extremely well for while, and then he got angry with me about what Lewis never quite clear. But then he came to me about two years ago and said, look, I was wrong. We've gotta get back to square one. Again. I don't know. Another politician who could talk like that. His friends included. For example, Tom Daschle democratic leader of the Senate and people like Warren Michael's, who's the producer of Saturday Night, Live. So I think that we're missing that in our public life. These is the kind of authenticity that he brought to the arena. You know, Andrea Mitchell, Mark, Salter his his longtime aide, sort of a son from another mother and father. In some ways. This is what he wrote in the Washington Post. This weekend McCain was a romantic about his causes and a cynic about the world. He had the capacity to be both things and to live with the contradiction. He had seen human beings at their best. And worst often in the same experience, he understood the world as it is with all its corruption and cruelty. But he thought it a moral failure to accept injustice as the inescapable tragedy of fallen nature. He was realistically optimistic, I guess, and that optimism that shining city on the hill that you re, of course, we think of Ronald Reagan. I think Michael Beschloss said last night that if the happy warrior had not been termed had not been coined to describe Hubert Humphrey that John McCain would. Be the happy warrior and a warrior in and a fighter always, but always with so much optimism and so much joy and passion passion because he believes so much in his country in the people of of our country. And he believed in a greater vision of America tall, there's every generation has this handful in it is literally a small handful of of people that don't become presidents but become bigger than life. John McCain is one of those people. Patrick Moynihan was was probably best Representative the generation previously. How did he achieve that status in your mind? Well, I think you achieve that by a sailing against the winds that are prevailing. For example, now both parties, they're more ideologues than they are all Sunday people in terms of looking at a problem, not just through the prism of being a democrat or Republican, but what is really needed, it'd be done and John McCain would do that. He was not. Trapped by his party label. I mean, he was very conservative on international affairs but willing to take a look at Mesic programs from a different perspective. We don't have that much anymore in politics. You know, I grew up at a time when in both parties, they got along even though they had different ideals ideologies, but the head in the Senate, the giants of the Senate on both sides. And now we have everybody trapped into this kind of ideological box, whether you're a democrat or Republican, you can't move out of that box. I got tired of that. Andrea. I want to read you John Kerry statement because it invokes a great memory of yours. Here's John Kerry's remembrances we met thirty two years ago. We loved the navy but had opposite views about the war of our youth. We didn't trust each other, but really, we didn't know each other after a long conversation on a long flight, we decided to work together to make peace with the and with ourselves here in America. We traveled together to Vietnam and together. We found common ground in the most improbable place. I stood with John. The two of us alone in the very sell in the Hanoi Hilton. We're years of his life where lived out in pain, but always in honor. Tell me about that trip that trip and the fact that they would stand there together. John McCain did not respect or understand or trust as John Kerry acknowledges what John Kerry did after the war being one of the leading when he's first appearance on meet the press was as a protest against the war, but they've worked together and I was covering the POW commission that they created together. And as John Carey wrote in that tribute last night, he was savaged by lesser people, but that words could never hurt him because he was stronger in the broken places..

"Okay. And we give you that opportunity last question for Sam. What's this new initiative called? Can't say. I have a suggestion midterm skulduggery. Thank you. Sam number for a part time. Hearing on skulduggery. Thanks, thanks him. So what did you make of that? Oh, my God. Head-spinning. I mean, I kind of my jaw dropped like ten times during that interview, and it's just, I mean, not like we're gonna put Sam number on the couch and psychoanalyze him. But I mean, he is just a very unusual character and I guess, is you know you, you said before kind of Trumpian in? Yeah. I mean, a guy who clearly loves to be out there loves attention for attention sake. And so in that in that respect, he is very Trump in and you one can understand how he and Donald Trump had this bond sort of. It's all about the show the spectacle, the circus and he said, that's what he saw in Donald Trump. He was not drawn to Donald Trump because of his, you know, well. L. developed views on policy. He said this guy can get elected because he's got star power, and because he's riveting. And you know, I gotta say the this, his his admission, Frank admission about the cynical use of birtherism when Trump was. I talking about running for president in two thousand eleven was was pretty eye opening it. Yeah. I mean, he, he, he effectively said he, you know, he didn't believe in it. You know, he said that he pedal birther as those were his words. Yeah, I pedaled birtherism right? And I knew he was born in the United States. You know, you also said Donald Trump knew he was born in the United States, although he thought that Obama was hiding, Obama was hiding something. You know, it's like students of of of scandals, they're always these kind of fascinating, colorful bizarre. You know, kind of marginal figures and I don't. We don't quite know how marginal number is. He may end up being important testified for the jury for six hours that in and of itself was kind of surprising that the that Muller's people would have spent this much time with him. It does seem from what number is saying is that Roger stone is clearly within Muller sites, and we may be getting an indictment of Roger stone very soon if we're going to get it, we're, we're going to get it. I suspect before Labor Day. So in the next few weeks. But he does make me think a little bit of another character from from previous candle from Watergate. And who is that Martha Mitchell the what? The the wife of John Mitch. L. who has Nixon's attorney general, and then the head of creep the committee reelect the president. And you know Martha Mitchell was this kind of gothic character who southern character who reporters would call up at night because the belief was that she was drinking, and you know, might reveal things about the the inside the Nixon administration, Nixon administration, and and you know, the Watergate crimes. And indeed she did and I teach, he was drinking, and of course, Sam number denies it. But you know, our listeners may remember the huge media blitz that he went on right before he testified before the Muller grand jury when he was just you know going, he was yeah. And and and Burnett on CNN said, said to him on CNN I smell booze on your breath and he denied it. And you know. We are. We said, no, for the record, we hear it. Skulduggery did not smell any booze. We did not number Brandon, which means he was entirely sober for that bizarre. Interesting question is if he's really like Martha Mitchell, Mark Mitchell later said, I think maybe David Frost that she had been brainwashed by the by the Nixon White House just to just to complete the analogy. And by the way, you know, as as jaw-dropping is some of what Sam number out to say. He's a very amiable guy when you meet them in person. I just met him a few days ago. Yeah, for the first time in the green room at at meet the press. But just to complete your analogy, actually, although many reporters did call Martha Mitchell. He she had one favorite, Helen, Thomas then of UPI. And I think I know where you're going. And she used to call and dish to Helen Thomas. So I think to complete the analogy, the Helen Thomas.
