"As we work our way through week number one a team. I like to bounce back after going 79 missing the playoffs last year, the New England Patriots Mike I've told you about that I made a wager at plus 1 10 of the Patriots to make The playoffs this year, again, another team playing in a much better division than it's been in years past. The Bills are legit. The Dolphins are on their way up and it's dolphins pats in New England in Week one. It's Mac versus two. Uh, it's Belichick versus Flores. I think there's some great angles some great storylines. You envision the Patriots bouncing back this year out. Tell you what. Miami. For some reason, they're getting only three. It's a lot of weight to carry for rookie Mac. Mac Johnson. You know, I hope this won't turn out to be a nightmare for bear fans. That that they moved up and then the guy behind Justin Fields ends up becoming a stud. Right? Okay, but But I'm sort of leaning. I wouldn't be a pick. It might be a Sunday that for me if I get more information, I'm sort of leaning Miami, Okay. I mean, the kid I look, he might be turned out to be all that. Um I think they were counting on Cam Newton. But the covid things struck again for him. He had trouble with the playbook. Apparently John doing better than him. Uh so I think they soured on him. But Jones look good, too. We'll see what happens. But, man, you talk about baptism under fire and a rookie. Once again, folks, and I say this about fields to that wasn't pick 12 or three in the quarterback Derby. He was five. He was picked five right. Think about that. Make sure you follow Mike on Twitter at north to North. About what? Always always doing it. So make sure except Colorado Francisco. What's wrong with Colorado? You got can't let him score four runs in one inning game Onions, ninth inning change. That's the problem up. Pittsburgh, Buffalo and interesting game. Speaking of the A F C East, we've got Buffalo at Homeland 6.5 to Pittsburgh. Now, normally Mike Tomlin getting points. My goodness, we lick our chops. Mike Tomlin. As an underdog since 2000 and seven as head coach of the Steelers. How about 23 11 and two against the number when he's getting a field goal or more, and that's the case this weekend. They've won 17 of those 36 games. Outright. You know what scares me a little about just jumping on with this one, Though. Buffalo Buffalo. That's it. You're right and what they did to him last year. I mean, they really know. I think Najee Harris will help the running game Pittsburgh went in there last year. They couldn't even rush for three yards a carry, but You know, Buffalo kind of kind of man handled the Mike and Pittsburgh's trying to remake this offensive line. You've got 60% of that line that's played two years or less than the league to new starters on that old line so Buffalo could push him around again. This is a court they could They could win the game by six pop. I mean Pittsburgh's getting six in there. This was a no play game for me. That's got action on both sides. As far as All the stats that was looking up here. But if I had to lean, I would probably take Buffalo on the money line. Hey, big Ben, Can he do it again? Hey, maybe, And time was like, Let me just say this. He's never had a losing season. It's amazing, right right and think about that because he's had a lot of, but he's always had quarterback insistence E except the one year and he still didn't have a losing season. They're playing Mason Rudolph. So, so this is a good test, but I expect Look if your Buffalo And you're clamouring for the next step. You can't lose this game. Yeah, I can't to start the season home fans back in the stadium at home. It's true. You can't lose this game. If you're all that Josh Allen With the extension, you got more depth. Your defense is outstanding. May we worry about the running game a little bit, Maybe. But if you're all that you win this game and the right, the lack of running game might not even matter. I mean, it didn't like you can you know that? Not everybody's Tom Brady and you know, not dead. But it didn't really matter. Last room and Brian table and the bills through it as much as anybody more than anybody last year, inclement weather you know they're going to need work at the end of the day. You need good. Your daddy's got to get turned over and you've got to have running at the end of the day in the playoffs to get fired, so we'll see what happens. But if you're serious about it, Buffalo has been hyped. At this point. You can't lose the Pittsburgh opening. I'm going to give everybody a reminder if you are on Buffalo. If you're all in and Mike and I get it, it's cool. Yeah. I mean, I think there are a lot of people playing hers. About Buffalo. I've season long wagers, you know, potentially having the best record if you think they're going to win the Super Bowl this year, back up that bet, like for example, on points bed, you can make a wager. First time Super Bowl winner you'll get, plus 3 50 odds on them. So if you like Buffalo Double up So you might have 10 to 1 12 1 ticket on buffalo. You might as well put another 50 or 100 down on first time Super Bowl winner because that both those bets would cash them. So make sure you that's the beauty of all the legalized gambling. And the beauty of this, too, is unlike San Francisco, where if you lose Garoppolo, there's a drop. At least you got a second stringer debt if he won't replace Josh Allen, but he's been a starter in the league. So if you pump better seasons total over, you still got a shot Buffalo. That's why they got the insurance policy and they are still deep once again. Look, Carmen and I have talked about this. We'll find out if they lose this game. Then you and I start pointing to the Colbert from week from five weeks ago. By the way, I am going to agree for the first time ever with Mike and Mitch Stravinsky. Probably Mike's right. I might not be a huge mystery Whiskey fan, but if you had to play for a month Oh, yeah, you could probably go three. Well, I mean, like that's where Mitch is going to survive and thrive. I think in this league is a scenario like that, where it wouldn't be. Now, Josh, you already get lost for the year. I think the difference, right? But if Mitch had played three or four games, I think Mike's right. I think they can weather the storm with me. Well, what I have is I don't know if I still have a bet with Polly Howard on this, but the bed I made with them last year. Was basically if air sense because they don't like too risky. You know that like they don't want the media that doesn't like them nationally, and I said to him, you know what if Buffalo go if Allen goes down I said. I said the bears. I'm Excuse me Robiskie if he plays five games Okay, we'll still make the playoffs. Yeah, I think you're right because the rest of the team's talent to do in the play callers. Great. Yeah, absolutely. And that's what Trump is Key. I'm going to call now. It's going to end up going wherever that guy goes based on, of course, just how could derail real quick if Pittsburgh beats them the first game Now all of a sudden, people are wondering Is this some barrage?.

"In week one Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams. Who do you think it's going to be? I think it's going to be Andy Dalton. I'm going to take back Maggie at his word that Andy Dalton is the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears. No matter how badly the fans want to hear something different, and honestly, I don't terribly hate the decision. I mean, I think it can go either way, obviously with that team, But I also think, in part that Matt Nagy probably promised Andy Dalton When he decided to come there for that 10 million that he's going to start and we know his days are numbered as the starter and that the leash is going to be very short, Justin Fields, obviously the future of that team. Nevertheless, I think that you roll out the vet to begin with you Give them a little time And then you move on to Justin Fields because you can't go from fields. Adult it like that's not how it works. You can't rule out Justin Fields there and decide that you made some mistake. You know when he starts throwing interceptions or something, and you want to win games, That's not how it works. So you need to go from the vet to the rook, and I don't think it's so terrible to give the rookie a few games on the sidelines in a little extra time. B. J is a Bears fan, and he's on the line right now. B J. We appreciate the phone call as a bears fan. The floor is yours. What do you think about the quarterback situation? Man. I hope they started Dalton. But I promise you in 2024 will win the world. Uh, Super Bowl. And then if we re signed glue, Mac, Well, we're in 2025 to Just I know I'm crazy, but that's happened. I wouldn't say you're crazy. Appreciate the phone call. I mean, if Justin Fields is what so many hope he's going to be. You might be the first time and how long that you've had competent quarterback play in Chicago. Do you know that The Chicago Bears are the only NFL team in the history of the league that has never had a 4000 yard? Passer number one? Amber. I did not know that. Not even smoking. J because the daily wager that's an interesting said I did not know that they are so desperate for a competent quarterback. That is why they are so. It just committed to this idea that the rookies should start day one because they want to believe that that guy is the answer to the future. I was surprised of BJ's original Take. Hey, let's start Andy Dalton. That was a very nuanced take by B. J. And then he went full fanatic after that, as a true Chicago Bears fans, saying That it's only going to be a couple years and they'll be winning everything. But I do think that if you do hit on it with Justin Fields, and if he does look like the guy he looked like he could be in the preseason that it is reasonable to believe that that Chicago Bears team could be really good here in the next few years. Everything is dependent on who is under center. If you're the Chicago Bears, this is what you are up against in week one at Los Angeles against the Rams. Not only are you going against the defense, led by Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey that ranked number one in total defense and number one in scoring defense last season. You're up against a head coach in Sean McVeigh, who is entering year five, and in the four previous years, he's been the head coach of that team in week one. They are foreign straight up and four no against the spread, holding the opposition to just 16 points per game. McVeigh's teams Amber break from the gate fast. They do. There's two ways to look at that. You could think trial by fire like we should have Justin fields out there that will that will be some learning against that defense. But then the other way of thinking about is that Let's give him some time on the sidelines. Well, World world Andy Dalton out there for that experience. Biggest issue for the Bears is they're not organizationally aligned. The owner hires the GM. The GM hires the coach, the gym and the coach work together to draft the quarterback. These guys have not been aligned from the beginning. With Mitch Stravinsky with the hiring of Maggie. They've been dis aligned, and as a result, they aren't organized with their decision making process because you want everyone invested in each other success at the quarterback wins the front office wins. The front office wins the quarterback winds and right now in Chicago, it doesn't look like that. Coming up. Next. Has one conference already been eliminated from the college football playoff. She's Amber Wilson. I'm Joe 14 ball. This is Greenie on ESPN radio. Hey, it's Keyshawn Johnson. Hope you're enjoying your Labor Day weekend when it's all over. Catch our new show Keyshawn J. Willy Max as we talked NFL and set up the baseball pennant races, starting at six A.m. Eastern, right here on ESPN Radio. Let's get one thing straight. There's no one dedicated to getting it done. Like cross country mortgage. They've got the best closers in the game full stop. Who else do you know they can close the home in 21 days or less. But the team chemistry the cross country mortgage loan officers have.

"30 Scotty, serious host of the 15th Club Golf show, We'll talk about the Northern trust that's going on right now up outside New York City, Jon Rahm, the current leader, big ramifications arrest away they play this week. The top 70 play next week in Maryland. Then they go to the Tour Championship later day Labor Day weekend. As this is winding down the regular PGA Tour. Saying that will still have a lot of golf for the rest of the year, especially late September with the Ryder Cup phone lines are open to talk Sports on cable BJ radio. It is heard from coach Steve Sarkeesian. Uh, talk about his offense and talk about the players he likes and the improving quarterbacks again. He's not named a starter yet. He is not named the starter for his team. And you've got to wonder when he's going to do that. What he's going to do that comments about the Longhorns I, for one am so looking forward to Longhorn football a week from this coming Saturday, Let's all hope and pray that this dealt the variant of Covid is gonna is gonna be shrinking or the numbers are going to be go down. Going to be going down because for the last thing you want is have a limited A number of Texas fans at Longhorn football game. I got a nice thing from UT I'm a season ticket holder, been a season ticket holder. I'm proud to say for over 30 years and it looks like it is going to be happening outside the stadium. What I've seen with the Bevo Boulevard. It's going to be like a miniature state fair. They're gonna have rides for kids. They're going to have a lot of food, local food. They're gonna have a lot of drinks out there. It's going to be a happening. And the thinking about you. T is UT does not lists have to listen to the city of Austin. They don't have to get city of Austin permits that sort of thing because they fall under the guise of the state of Texas. So they can do what they want to do, and I know a lot of people in our town. Really concerned as everybody should be about this, this this variant, but I think people who feel like they're, uh, in a vulnerable position who don't want around. People just don't go to the game. Don't go to the games. And if you do go, I would encourage wearing mask unless you're eating to drinking. And I hope they don't change anything about the attendance. Because, boy, uh, a lot of us are star for Longhorn football. Let me tell you what. It was freaky. Last year when you went to a Longhorn football game in there like 20,000 people there. I told you we've talked about this humorously on the show Texas and Iowa State last year. Was literally yelling at Beato, who is four sections away during that Iowa state game. It was so quiet and so weird, but I think people just have to be smart themselves. And if you don't want to be in crowds don't be in crowds. If it gives you the heebie GPS to me, uh up close and personal with 100,000, people don't go. Every game is going to be on television, so you can do that. You can do that. All right, 51283605 90, or if you disagree with me, I'd love to hear from people who disagree and say I'm all washed up. Mama washed up on the been washed up for years. If I'm wrong about this situation because of the covid, I just think in this case You should make your own decision. And you should mask up, not getting people's face and do what you need to do. 512836 year old 5 90. We talked about the quarterbacks with Steve Sarkeesian and man Old Man. Quarterbacks will be front and center tonight, uh, with the NFL, Trevor Lawrence. The Jacksonville Jaguars will be playing tonight. Uh, in his first national, I guess is nationally televised game, his first nationally televised game to see how he is in really He's going to be. He's going to be the starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars. We all know that he's going to be starter for the team. That's not going to be very good this year, but he was a number one player. Taken in the draft very much deservedly show and he's going to be the number one player number one quarterback for that team. They face the New Orleans Saints. In this preseason game tonight, And the big question for New Orleans is who's going to be their starting quarterback? And I like to talk about that, because I know we have a lot of Saint fans here in Austin. A lot of loyal Saint fans will it be Taste some hill. The fifth year quarterback from BYU, or Will it be Jamis Winston, the seventh year quarterback of Florida State, who will be the starter to replace Drew Brees and can New Orleans Capture what they have had over the last few years with Jamis Winston or Taysom Hill being the quarterback and right now, who's going to be the quarterback? Who is going to be the quarterback? If it was my picking right now, I would pick Jamous Winston to be the quarterback Jameis Winston. Has a magnificent arm. He is a pro style quarterback. Two years ago, when he was a Tampa Bay. He said, a lot of records with yardage, but we know he threw a lot of interceptions. But I think Jamis Winston brings more to the table. Then Taysom Hill. I still think taste some Hill will be a quarterback and With the gimmicks they do with the trick plays that they do, but right now, I believe it's Jamis Winston, the Chicago Bears today. I don't know if you heard this story. The Chicago Bears who played Buffalo over the weekend. It was a terrible game for the Buffalo Bills as they were just murdered by Mitch Stravinsky. Mitch Stravinsky played for Chicago last year, and he looked fan tastic against his old team. And now they've named a starter for the Chicago Bears. And it's not just in fields. The number one pick Justin Fields has had a great great August Great August as he was picked in the first round of Ohio State. He's been battling Andy Dalton for the starting position, of course. Andy Dalton played for the Cowboys last year. But today, Chicago said, it's going to be Andy Dalton as a starting quarterback. And you know what? I agree with that because you don't need to throw Justin fields to the wolves right now because their first game of the year Is against the Los Angeles Rams. And you should not. I repeat, you should not throw a rookie quarterback against that defense. Of, uh of the Los Angeles Rams. Aaron Donald, the defensive tackle. If he gets loose, he will make mincemeat of Justin Fields and you don't need Justin fields to lose his confidence. At all. You don't want to lose his confidence. There's no reason to throw him to the wolves as quick. I'm glad they're saying it's Andy Dalton. I'm glad they're saying it's Andy Dalton because I think Andy Dalton can manage the game. But how embarrassing for the Chicago Bears to get humiliated by their former quarterback who you gave up on Who you drafted in the first round, Surprisingly above so many players, Mitch Stravinsky and now the guy torched. You literally torched you in the Buffalo Bills last Saturday. What does that? Tell me? What does it boil down to Mitt Stravinsky? Coaching. The coaching of the Buffalo Bills. There, they put him in places where he could succeed. He looked like Quite frankly, a bad college quarterback many, many times last year for the Bears before they pulled him. He looked bad. He threw interceptions. Think the Buffalo coaching staff they know that they know what he is and they're putting and they put him in position to succeed. Unlike the brain surgeons in Chicago, so Some of the storylines that are working phone lines are always working on K. L. B. J 512836059. When we come back, we're going to hear from Mike McCarthy, head football coach of your Dallas Cowboys and also former Longhorn quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Who had a shaky game, You'll have to say it was a Shaky game and it was an unfortunate game with some kid passes for Sam over the weekend and get some Minnesota Vikings again. 512836 year old 5 90 Brian Davis of the Statesman Coming up at 5 15 to talk about the horns. Scotty Sarah's at 5 30 to talk about, uh, PGA Tour golf. This is Sports stock on NewsRadio. 5 90 K. L. B. J..

"Evaluated. In the regular season. The stock of of Andy for us is going to be something for us is seeing what he does during the season. You know that that's how we got. We got to be able to see. What can Andy do during the season with this team and with with these guys That has been our plan this whole entire time, Um, at the same point in time, we also need to evaluate and see we're Justin's at and what he can do and again. He's doing everything that we're asking him to do. He's doing great. So I think it's a good situation for us. And I understand I truly understand the uh Yeah. I don't know what the world would be. But the want to for people that want to see more Justin and all that. I get that. But we also understand where we're at and how what The true plan is and and all we can do is ask Justin to keep playing, and he's doing it and to keep playing and Nick to keep one. My question is just a very simple one again. Why, like, listen to the beginning of this. The stock of of Andy for us is gonna be something for us is seeing what he does during the season. You know that That's how we got. We got to be able to see. What can Andy do during the season. We have to be able to see what Andy can do during the season. Andy Dalton has played in 144 games in the National Football League. There's Matt Nagy honestly believe he's going to Untapped something that nobody else has ever been able to untapped that unearthed the gym that Matt Maggie's offenses like what do they need to see and evaluate? They've come in? I don't get it. Preordained theory that this guy's got to sit on the bench because Patrick Mom sat on the bench, sick arm, folks, that's your only explanation. Maybe they felt like Mitch Stravinsky. You know if you would have gave mixed Robiskie that year to sit And let Glenn and play the whole year that Stravinsky would have come out. Maybe, you know, maybe maybe would have done something in his career, So no, I think you're goes right. I think that absolutely is what it is. Isn't that crazy? Yes, of course it is. And like, remember to The Pat Mahomes talked about. I don't know if it was after her after his second season, when he talked about not being able to read defenses. He couldn't even identify the mic line. But it was. It was after his first year playing the NDP season. You're brought it up last week. That's just how good he is that he has an awareness of where to go, even though He didn't know how to read the defense yet. I mean, he's special for a reason. Yeah, but I think that's the point is that he didn't even know how to do that and his athletic ability what he could do with his arm, the arm talents, you know, and just the intangibles that Mahomes said, showed you that he could still be a special player without even being able to read the field and then When the game actually does start to slow down for a quarterback. Oh, my God. You see what happens? Millers point anybody says Well, he's got to sit and learn and watch the tape. Patrick Mahomes sat his entire rookie year. Quote Unquote learned study tape. His first year he gets to play. He throws 50 touchdowns. He's an M V P, if not for losing a coin flip might have been in the Super Bowl was in the anti championship game anyway, lost a coin flip and lost to Tom Brady. And then said after the season Yeah, I can't read defenses. Well, don't tell me he's got to sit and learn for a season. Patrick Mahomes didn't learn anything that first season. He's just great. Justin Fields might be great. Why wouldn't you want to see him play? What are you possibly think You're going to untapped that hasn't already been tapped in Andy Dalton. It just doesn't make sense. Trois in south. Sorry you want go ahead. No, I just I don't. I wish I had the answer Why They're doing it. I don't It's crazy Trois in South Bend. What's up, Troy? Hey, guys, uh, just wanted to say, I don't think this has anything to do with him needing to learn the system or sit out for a year and watch this isn't Patrick Mahomes situation. You need to keep him on the bench so he doesn't die. You saw what happened to him? Just a few snaps in. Bob gets his head taken off your You just got done talking about how if you're running back, you're not running behind that line. If I'm a quarterback, I'm not standing behind that line. Um, I think this is totally for protection of the kids, Get them in whole line and then let them go in and play. When? When is that going to be those? Right? Right. Thanks. I mean, get him in online. When is that going to be? Next year. The year after. What good offensive tackles don't become available. What if they don't have a good offensive line? Next year? Everybody we're going to be saying the same thing. Hey, they haven't really fix the airline. Don't play him. Yes, Let's wait till your three. What is that on the bench? I don't think that should factor into the calculus. Lincoln is in Richmond, Virginia. What's up, Lincoln? Hey, How's it going, guys? How you doing, buddy? All right. I remember CNN interview from Andy Dalton. And he said specifically, the reason why I came to Chicago is because they were going to guarantee him the starting position. So I think it was going to happen is they're going to give him the week one start. But if he plays like crap, then I think Justin will come in. But if he plays good, and you know they might roll with him for a little while longer. Yeah, don't blanket. Thanks. I mean, whatever was promised, Andy Dalton went out the window on draft night. That's just the way it is. And he might not even play all that poorly. Let's say in week one or in week two, but aren't they better? Long term with Justin? Playing? Art? Doesn't it seemed pretty obvious to everybody. Car Missouri creep puff on the schedule in we care for like they played Detroit Anything in week Four, right? Isn't that the home game week formed Aren't the Bengals articles are in week two. I don't know if the Bengals are with like Burroughs playing right. I mean, burrows contract play. I mean, I don't know that there are a total creampuff, believe it or not know the lions would be the one to be the one. I think you're at home, too. It is so that's a nice Soft spot, and then they have the Browns in week. Four, right? No, The Browns are the week three game, then the lines and the lines are in radio lines for I'm worried that the mob may have to be satiated at some point. Maybe Nagy is going not going to make the air if they don't win, and they keep putting the redheaded rifle out there. The mob will not be satiated. You know what? Though? And I don't think he would ever do this. But part of it is, if any, Dalton goes and loses to the Rams. Nobody. Nobody thinks anything of it. That's kind of the expectation. Is there a seven point underdog? And then? Yeah, you know, I haven't winning boy cheesier, but then you know Then in week two if you lose with Andy Dalton.

"Take over and it is time for Mitch Stravinsky. Fairly more reception. I would say so I think bears respect. He worked extremely hard. He played through injuries here. He never pointed the figure at himself, which one Really wanted to pump up his teammates. If for whatever reason, it didn't work out. The Bears didn't place the fifth year option on him. He does have a winning record, probably landed in a good spot in Buffalo behind Josh Ellis really, really grow as a young quarterback offensive with whiskey, another blow this time. It's Gabriel Davis, making the grab another toss looking for a tight end, and he's got Dawson Knox, who had a productive year, with Josh Allen empty set for travesty. They're quick throw another completion and a good gain on first down to Gabriel Davis from whiskey, Another quick sled and Mackenzie's Got it. Four Man rush for whiskey throws and it is complete. John by Isaiah McKenzie to grab it pitch Singletary. On the perimeter. With the cut and the first down Andy Scotland touchdown. Robert Quinn couldn't get him in the open field. Jackson couldn't get him out of bounds at six. Let's come Whiskey, rolling back chasing Stravinsky rifles and pass the sticks for a first down to Davis. Four man Rush. Flag is thrown to the outside, but he speaks for Mackenzie Second goal for this versatile, flexible buffalo offensive has a lot of pieces to it. Davis out of the backfield. Travesty on the run, Finding Kumerow. That's a touchdown communication from the coaching staff, and he's been coaching up Robiskie on the sidelines. Mitch Lawson before completion of Jacob Polisher appended like Hendrix, Kindle builder or Whiskey into a tight window and it's a conversion or Jacob Hollister 21. Nothing Buffalo for Biscuits got a man down the seam. It is the tight end Jacob polisher has made some good plays. The rolling fires to the sideline Kumerow, and it's a catch for Jake Kumerow Tyler bash from 41 makes it all Buffalo in the first half. 34 to 6 bills. Good work for Mitch Travis. Keep sure that felt good for the former Bears quarterback. Didn't feel good for us. I mean, not at all. No pesky got on that plane tackling going. I'm on a team. I might get ring. I know I'm a backup. But guess what? Take that. Yeah. Wow. So bears and again I am not advocating that he should have been here. No, they've moved on..

"You thinking that you are going to be The second highest paid quarterback in this league without stepping on the field. Now he could come on lead the Cowboys to an NFC East Division title on F C championship game. It could be a different deal a year from now. But you're putting a lot on the line after you've already put a lot on the line as yes, exactly. And as you alluded to earlier, Arnie needed a second surgery, Listen, we all want what's back. What's best for deck? But right now, I think there's a legitimate reason to question Is he going to come back? How healthy is he gonna be? Take the money and run, baby. Take the money and run. You play well enough to deserve that money. What makes you think you shouldn't get a little bit less coming off two surgeries and a terrible injury? Um, who wants to give you a long term contract after that? Certainly not I and by the way, what makes you think that's gonna accept anything? If I was back, I go back and accept $35 million a year. And get it done because of what happened. I don't. I don't know if he's going to go back on that right now. But he's gotten some bad advice. As far as I'm concerned, you think 30,000,035 million is still on the table from Jerry Jones. I think so. Why am I by crazy on? That is not on the table anymore. What? He just had surgery a second surgery. He snapped his ankle a half. Well, you're if you're the Cowboys, you can't go backwards. If you start going back, not you're not negotiating in good faith already. What if we wait? What do you mean, You're not negotiating in good faith. That's the terms of the deal changed. The deal was on the table. Barring that he's playing and he's healthy. He's not healthy anymore. Aaron. If you go backwards like that, that I'm not even going to come to me. I'm just have you. Have you ever watched sports? But like, how long have you been doing this for DeMarcus Cousins was one of the highest paid players in the league. Then he tor is a C L E tour is Achilles. Now he's making a million dollars a year. What do you talking about That Z cousins? You know what I mean, is cousins. He was an all star. He accomplished more in his career. The deck Prescott has to this point. Trevor Awards is having surgery. You still don't think he's gonna be the number one pick and that's good. Gonna be up to six friends. He's not negotiating a contract he set in stone. He's set in stone, even with her without the surgery. So what do you What exactly? You think the Cowboys also tell you that exactly should the Cowboys off. I'm kind of curious. I don't think you offer him what you were offering him when he was fully healthy, and 100% so far was offering. He said No to 35 year, and now you're going to come back with what? 30 year. So let me ask you a question if you offered me 30 year. You know how fast I'm going. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna pull Russell Wilson. I'm going to do an interview with the media. I'm going to make you look so bad One is going to have sympathy for Dak Prescott. If it gets out that he turned down 35 year, and then he bet on himself and he got hurt. No one is gonna feel bad, Arnie. I don't know. What do you What is the term that Arnie Spanier always says or doing the show today? Right? And you say that Because circumstances change. I can come on the show today and I could have come on the show on Saturday and said the Lakers are the unquestioned NBA champion. Well, guess what. We were doing the show on Saturday. Things have changed. Anthony Davis, who knows what his future is this season. I can't come out and say the same thing. And it's the same thing with that, Prescott. You can't sit here and say, Well, he was gonna be paid this much money this time last year. Yeah, well, the circumstances changed. I'm doing the show tonight. And guess what if he comes out and throws for 45 touchdowns and three interceptions next year on one good ankle, then the circumstances are going to change again. And I might be willing to give $40 million. But you can't do the whole well, he was offered this two years well. I mean, will you? I mean every, but you never gave me an answer. You have 35 is too much. And you're gonna what? Given what 25 Million. What do you What do you think is going to happen? Erin, if you offered him 25 million Seriously, what? What do you think? I'll tell you what I would do. But what do you think he would do? After he just coming off a bad injury and you're going to try to give him 5 to $10 million a year because it's so 5 to $10 million less is what 20% less Are We not arguing that he's 20% less of a player coming into next year? Then he probably was last year, you wouldn't see me a camp of my life depended on it. That's fine. Hit the free agent market and wore the Cowboys will be fine. I'm not coming, either. You're gonna trade me. I'm not going to be great. Have 18 that's ready to compete. Right now for a Super Bowl. At every position, we will find a quarterback. You think you're worth 40 million Go find 40 Million. Hey, listen. Sometimes it works out The Washington Then Redskins did not believe Kirk cousins was worth what he was asking for the Minnesota Vikings role in a play Pam. How'd that work out for the Vikings went to the NFC championship game the year before he got there haven't been anywhere close since. So my point is, Have you seen the difference between the Cowboys with Jack? And without that, I'm just curious. That's because they had a bet they weren't planning on making Andy Dalton there full time starter last year. So go get Carson Wentz. Go get Sam Darnell's Go get go. Trade for the shop. What makes more money than Doc would've made Carson Wentz is a big car. Why would you want to pay Carson Wentz? If I'm the Cowboys that you don't want to give it the dac I would have come in and started new with a rookie quarterback of they're not gonna give it quarterback, But I'm just saying, I think it's ridiculous to assume that you're going to pay him the same amount of money that you were gonna pay him pre injury. Well, I just woke the whole point of him. Turning down the contract was he was betting on obsess. Well, guess what. He pushed all his chips in the middle, and it didn't work out. You're saying it's no different than if he would have had a year like 25 touchdowns, 25 interceptions and didn't get hurt Force. Of course. So s so again. Take it to the next thing that if you do up from that money, you know he's gonna be gone. You understand that, don't you? He's not going to He's not gonna want to come back. You could have to give those one year deals or you're going to have to trade him. We got a little more you a different question. Deck hits the open market right now, with all these teams that need a quarterback, but he's asking for the same $35 million a year. Do you go with Carson? Wentz was often injury. Do you go with Sam? Donald? Do you go with Mitch Stravinsky? Do you try to trade for the Shawn Watson, who is paying back? 35 year off of bang uncles? All the quarterbacks she gave me I'd go with Sam Donald Yeah, but women How much of Sam Darling do you think is how about what you think he's gonna cost? You start working contract? I know that..

"Obviously, he's out of the equation. S o. You've seen Dylan Strome in that role to me the key to this power play. Is the top of the umbrella the quarterback if you will, so right now it's Adam Beau Qu'est on that first power play unit, and to me, he has had a very uneven first five games. Offensively, he needs to get better. And I'm looking forward to talking to Chris Chelios, The Hall of Famer get his thoughts on what he has seen from Adam Beau Quist. And you know just his thoughts on Offensive minded defense mention how good can they get on the defensive side, So we'll talk to Chris about that. But You know, Adam right now is getting the run on the first power play unit. You'll also see and he's been pulled off it. Ah, couple of times already. And you've seen Duncan Keith. And the one thing about Duncan Keith and we brought it up on the pregame show yesterday and NBC Sports Chicago is You know, Brian, he puts it in the wheelhouse for his teammates. And you know the player doesn't have to stop the puck and then shoot it. It is in his wheelhouse. It's a small thing, but it's a large thing when it comes to the success off a power play unit. Well, I think that's just veteran guile of knowing knowing his personnel know his teammates knowing you know what to do. It's kind of like a quarterback, right? You see, young quarterback, Unfortunately, this time, see Mitch Stravinsky too much. On deep passes in particular where guys just literally has to either stop or slow down and he catches the ball. But now the moment is gone right. So where Keith can put it right on someone stick or giving a one timer? That split second. Could be all the difference in the world on the power play, right? Absolutely. Absolutely. Who do you see emerging in the Blackhawks? Goaltending Battle Your choices. Kevin Lincoln and Colin Delia Malcolm Suban or Ms Crowe and letter You can follow us on Twitter were at ESPN Hockey Show He's at Brian Hanley 534. I'm at Boyle NBCs. You know he's a big big part of But you know way obviously did a good job killing, but you still need some saves and He was he was solved for us, and he felt confident with him there. They killed all five Detroit power plays last night, and they had previously giving up five goals on their last 15 kills. So that's an area that last year they were top 10 penalty kill team this year there, you know, at the bottom of the pack there around 28 27th right now, so Together special teams, You know, we talk How great the power play's been. It's not going to always perform at a 40% clip. It's going to come back down Earth you You'd like to have it a Scotia above 20%, but that penalty kill also needs to get better. "Good advice from people we trust. I've met him once. I don't Can't say that I really know one have probably a far better relationship with Tom Ricketts. Than anybody else that the Cubs so we felt good about the people that we conferred with when we made our decision. No, George. It's not just about who's in the structure, but it's about the structure to you be both, actually. So he's wrong in that regards like well, it's not about the structure. It's who they chose. No, it's about being able to look at the Cubs as a mom and pop shop years ago and say, We've got to be able to catch up with the Joneses. Clearly, the Bears don't want to be that the top guy and for our younger listeners that may not know Happened. I lived through being a bears fan and realizing that there was no general manager. There was no player personnel guy for a while for the Bears correct they were. They did not have a guy in place as a GM. Well, it started with Jerry Angelo right after Rod Graves. There was an absence and then ride graves of Jerry Angelo. Right. Well, so they fired jeering Venecia. Yeah. Now you're going back. We're going back and then from I believe, like 87 86. Fired Jerry Vinny see because he was Lockstep with the coach. We had the culture that you talk about Matt Ryan and locks that they had that with Venecia Indica they fire Mike's guy, Jerry Venecia gone. They had Mark Hatley, who did some good things drafted. Holden Crude's that some of these other guys hey, was never named G m He was like your player personnel man, And then they went to Rod Graves. He also had been working there. Then, finally they came out of the dark ages and named a GM was Jerry Angelo. Your current, which is almost recent. It was like 2000 and two right, So that's the point is like like they're just good at their top line football guys, a general manager. That's it. And by the way, even that's behind the times. Even that philosophy is behind the times. You have no one else in the football structure to give you an outside voice or ah, voice of someone who played the game. I could tell you what's going on today. That could help you with the organization right now. Well, it goes back to when Ryan decided that Mitch Stravinsky's the guy. They did all his homework, and he watched to Sean and he broke down table, but he never went to the level that he went to We'll evaluate Patrick Homes and Mitchell Travis Key. And all of a sudden you got the worst of the three guys. Great kid. You were right on his intangibles and his work ethic and players love playing with him. You got the wrong guy. That's just a fact. We let it play out over four years. There were people that the day of the draft ready to make that decision and had never watched Mitchell too risky other than a couple Saturday games But in the end, they were right. He wasn't good enough and you don't have a safety net. That's the point. You don't have. Jonathan Hood at the top of the organization. Who's a football guy who you say pull out, right? You want, Mitch? Okay, Well, if you want to go that way, it's your call. We empowered you with that. You know what Could you sit down and just have dinner with the Sean? Just check all the boxes? Yeah. Yeah, I just think that that conversation has to be had with just more than just Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy. It's gotta be more than just those two and scouts and don't even think other coaches air in that same conversation. When it comes down to Who are we going to draft or who we're going to get in free agency. It's gotta be more than just a couple of guys in the room. Has to be. I think a collaborative effort and and Ted and George not even part of that. Everything's at the feet of Ryan Pace, and I think that's a problem. Someone else has to be in the room to be able to say, Well, what about this? That's how things get done. Not just Hey, man, I'm thinking about getting this guy and that's like that's where we're at. That's not good enough, right? Bill Parcells famous line If I'm going to cook the meal, you gotta let me at least shop for some of the groceries. Correct. So do you feel any better that Matt was the guy and it's been a legendary story. Tommy knew it a long time ago. Tommy Waddle that Matt evaluated the three quarterbacks in the 2017 draft for Andy Reid, who he was working for, and his evaluation of the three was spot on And Mitchell to risky. The ultimate project. Patrick the home's a generational talent worth trading up for Don't miss this guy, and so they took the advice. We know how it turned out. Does it make you feel better? Or not, I don't care that When Ryan goes to find the next guy, Because Mitch is gone, I can promise you there is zero chance misters returning. Talk to enough people as there is zero less than zero. He's not coming back. You're moving up, and I don't care which which end of that, Whether it's the bear's moving on or Mitch. Moving on is just time. It's time and they're moving on. So does it make you Jonathan? Does it make Danny Jr the bear fan listening? Does it make you feel better? That Matt is going to be A huge voice and who that next quarterback is. No, not really. Because no matter what, remember the guy that wanted Nick Foles right, and also is mad Maggie, but he also didn't have many options. There. A draft is a totally different thing than Cam Jamis, none of whom had a good year and Nick Yeah, but what I've seen from that Maggie is that you can't get the most other quarterback that you're running the quarterbacks that you have s so you can. Hey, you could choose any quarterback that's available in the draft. Can you get the most out of that quarterback to see And also you're going if you do pick a quarterback cap. So what system are you running? Because once again I don't know what you are offensively, so I don't I don't have any confidence in that fact because I don't know what met Maggie is offensively. What if he said to you ponder this at the break? What if he said to you a lot of second, Jonathan, let's be brutally honest. My quarterback wasn't good enough. And that's why it didn't work. Ponder that. Get your calls. Thanks, George. Believe Ryan Pace will get the QB right this time. You.

"You gotta play to win. He kicks a field goal. On fourth and one. It was like a 27 yard. Beautiful because you need points. Your vise around. You play chart in front of you. Let me see what the math says The Mass as you need to win the game and to be Aaron Rodgers. You don't need field goals. You need touchdowns. So for them to kick a field goal to go upend the seven. Okay, that's great and then, literally 90. Seconds later, Aaron Rodgers goes down the field for a 72 yard touchdown pass. They kicked four field goals in a game they lost by 19 loser mentality. You can't coach like a coward, and that guy does. Honesty point. What do you make of keeping Mr Biscuit is the starting quarterback or at least as the quarterback? I don't know if there are better options available in a perfect world like if I was the GM of the Bears. I would entertain every past its ability to trade for two Shawn Watson, who's the quarterback of the Houston, Texas. They didn't draft them. They didn't draft the homes. We know we move on from that. But now you have an opportunity to right a wrong Mitch Stravinsky is not going to win many playoff games. If any, I just don't see it. I mean, he hasn't won one yet. They've been into the Cody Parky double double going. They lost that game to the Eagles at the seven point favorite. They should have one and they didn't And he was awful against the Saints. He's not going to take them to the promised land. But why wouldn't you get aggressive and at least you know, try and pick up the phone and see what the Houston Texans want? Because if you bring it to Shawn Watson Who is a dual threat. Great passer good with his legs seems to be well liked in the room. That team is a train wreck in Houston, and I don't think he's gonna be there all that longer. You have to do your diligence and pick up the phone and make a phone call the same trade the farm for the Shawn Watson. But at least see what you have to do to make it a possibility. The problem is this management group in this regime. They are sort of tied to Mitch. Travis Key, Yeah. Of Travis Key does well in the Bears make the playoffs then. Okay, maybe maybe Mitch is okay. Let me ask you this. Let me ask you this, Sam. Um Maybe you don't care what the answer is, But is it possible that you get rid of him? It's true, risky and then he goes in place for a team and then he's really good on a better team, and then you're kicking yourself because we could have kept him. But now look at that. His team is in the playoffs. This other team that he's on. It's a very good question. I wonder about this because I think the schematics don't help him. Mr Biscuit would be at his best in an offense that establishes the run right. If if you can run the football with success and move the chains and keep the defense honest that opens up Mitch Torbinski, the runner. And it opens up play action Play action is where Mr Biscuit can be a very decent quarterback. But the problem is they pass way more than they run and they put too much pressure on 10. That's the issue. He's not going to sit back in the pocket and pick teams off. That's never been the case. He needs to be a part of a fluid offense that has a plan to run the football and established that power run in the trenches and the bears. For whatever reason, whether it be personnel whether it be injuries, whether be idiotic, play calling. They refused to run the football. There are past first offense with a quarterback. That is not an accurate passer, and that's a recipe for disaster. Could the right coach save Mitch Strabinsky if he went to the Patriots if he went, you know X y Z. Maybe, but I think the combination of everything play calling, coaching and quarterback. It clearly isn't working, and they clearly aren't contenders. And yet they clearly don't get rid of the people in the front office, the coach or who else Who else would you like to see not be working for the Bears? The general manager. That's where you start. I mean the decisions rather easy. He's been there six years now. 39 wins 53 losses they've whipped on multiple quarterbacks. To head coaching whiffs. We've got one winning season. And they have no playoff wins. What more do you need to see? Give me some numbers. Now, let's just do this real quick. Then we'll take a break. Come back with some other topics, But so the bears any other numbers. I should know they're out of the playoffs, so we don't need to worry about that. I guess it's too soon to worry about what they're over under is for wins next year. What about the playoffs? Yeah, we won't have that number. What? What I can tell you is that the Bears were who they thought they were as steady. Green famously said no many years ago who wait, doctor. Well, if you look back at the season win total in Las Vegas, Las Vegas said the Bears were in eight went team That was the wind total. You could either bet over or under same number of points back eight wins. That's the number they finished 18 8. So they are who we thought they were. Well, What about the rest of the playoffs? Who we like it here? Oh, man. Well, you and I talked about Kansas City back in September. They were six. The one that won the Super Bowl there. No, hold on. Hold on. Hold on one second, Sam Ellis said. We gotta take a break here and we do. So let's pick it up here in just a minute, Sam pantheon of bitches on the line. He did declare yesterday that it was the last day for bears gear. I did. I did have a playoff game this weekend. Yeah, I'm getting ready to watch that game with interest. Gonna be the first one on Saturday. And why would night I mean, there's NFL fans out there? There's still people playing fantasy football. Aaron Rodgers Davante Adams Valdez. Scat Ling will be going this week and I saw somebody had down Lazard. Aaron Jones is on a roster tiny and is on a roster. So yeah, the Packers. I'm looking forward to watching this weekend's action. That is quo at Halas Hall. Everybody stays. It doesn't sound like contract extensions are being handed out. I guess that's a good gotta retire. So God knows gone there had to be a sacrifice. The lamb. But I'm talking about the man. You mean official and Chuck made just seen what was happening. What's going on and decided. Hey, hostilities. Guys can't hold their water and that's what we call when you can't Stay on side when you when you can't you're not smart enough is a football team not to jump offsides repeatedly in a playoff game, So we say, if you can't hold your water, I've never heard that. Well, Maybe you realized that these guys can hold their water and it's just time to go ahead and wash his hands of them. Yeah, but George is not making any changes at the top. Ted Phillips is still the president and I guess he's praising his leadership and And in terms of Ted is praising the leadership of mad Maggie and Ryan Pace through the six game losing streak. Carmen, I can relate to you that George is happy he feels like Ryan Pace is growing into the job Growing into the job was much time. Is he gonna give him well, he's had six years to this point. He's growing into a 10 year apprenticeship program, guys. Remember what we said, is growing with the day you made that dashing move with all the coordinates that people like to talk about. You tied yourself at the hip with mixed Robiskie. He did. And if Mitch Stravinsky's on his way out, right patient got his way out, period, it's not happening. Not gonna happen. You're entrusting, very important quarterback decision to a man who unfortunately, has been able to get the quarterback position, right? You think about the guys. He's been enamored with Marcus Mario to Mitchell Travis Key trading for fools, although that was probably as much man Maggie is anything else. Some of the things some of the other names, you'll still be pointed out. You know, the Mark Sanchez is in the Tyler Bray thing. The constant love. Tyler Bray and you know Look, I I don't know. I don't know what else I can say today that we haven't said a million times how anybody could believe that Ryan Pace is going to get it right. It's just a completely for faith. At this point. Maybe he will. Maybe he'll look into it. As bears fans. That's all we can go on. That's it. You can't objectively look at his track record and say that he's going to get the quarterback right next time because he knows what he's looking at. He knows how to evaluate the position. And he locked in the one you think I'm just pure coincidence on just the roll of the dice, right? You know, like I actually by accident, You think that the Bears eventually will look into one? I mean, like you, really. He had a 66% chance to a nail it the first time he crafted one female measurably. Guys Way realized, failed miserably on that one keeps saying on Twitter, though, How much was the number one and everybody's draft board? Not I'm not bred beaches. That's right. That are bred features. So I guess you could say Well, guys, he was number one on Mike Max Draft board and on Mel Kiper's draft word, Okay? He wasn't number one on bread, beaches draft board and he wasn't number one on. Was it? Rick Smith? Still at the time in Houston, I believe I believe you're right. Yeah, I believe that he wasn't number one on Rick Smith Draft board. That's right. So you can say Well, he's number one. Mel Kiper's draft board, so obviously he should be the number one quarterback taken. Or you can say, boy, be nice if we were Kansas City. Or I don't even know it would be nice if you be Houston, but it be nice to have the Shawn Watson. Let's put it that way. Yeah, you could say that. Call me crazy. You could say I know guys. It doesn't matter what Micmac in the NFL network. Booth thinks it doesn't matter what Todd McShay thinks it doesn't matter what Mel Kiper Jr thinks about Mitch Travis Key, Pat Mahomes and to Shawn Watson. Sorry, Patrick. It doesn't really matter. Does it, folks, guys? The ship has sailed that I said ship. That ship has sailed. It's gone. You remind yourself every single week when you see him play go ahead. But that is gone. The only thing you can do now is move forward. And you're moving forward the individuals involved. So this is an important draft. It's an important offseason. What do the Bears do? They've got to make room. If you're going to make acquisitions. Now there was they were like I think it was 14 through 16th in the league. With like, I think it was $7.8 million. They were under the cap. Well, they can't find a way to get under the cap even more and then more. This thing was set up. I looked at a bunch of contracts yesterday. There's a lot of opt outs after 21. After 21. There's a lot of opt outs almost like it was built the way we're doing the contractors and they were they were looking at it. If we don't have it going by 2021. We can opt out of a bunch of different deals. Mitch is fifth year, right that y Yeah, probably. Probably because you know you're negotiate with Eddie Jackson with other guys. But I was looking at that..

"Baited his own teammate in a pre see He baited his own teammate in the preseason, Michael Thomas punched his lights out. As chair points out, boys. He's a master baiter. Thank you very much Good job, Jr. He is and they spent time on it, and they still got another Bears wide receiver caught up in it and thrown out in a playoff game. Anthony Miller's got to be better than that. And and the conversation did not end. Well between the head coach in between Anthony Bella. You think Miller one to pop him? I think Anthony Miller had had enough listening to what he had to say to him directly in his here. I gotta go back and watch that. I'll take a look at you were you know where we live down, Doc 70 of covert protocols was violated at that point. I don't know. I mean, even if you got your mask on, it doesn't make a difference. You're into guys your whole sitting and tell them what you think They're all in the same bubble. Yeah, I suppose on so Anthony Miller and had enough on, he just said, but he's got to be better than that. It's not going to make a difference. Anthony Miller will be here. It's a point after his first year, That's another guy After 18 you know, you thought the sky's the limit here right shoulder injury to shoulder injuries member was the first one that kind of took that first year way, then the second one the next year, then it kind of limited. I think his abilities to reach up and grab Played with the hardest for awhile that hardest limits what you can do so a lot of times, one hand going up in the air? Yeah, problem And but also Matt has called him out on a couple of occasions publicly about always not running the route of the proper distance. So clearly, there's been some miscommunication there where he hasn't Taken the teaching from the coaching staff and ended in addition, one of things I pointed out yesterday, the post game I was I was really disappointed when he finally had an opportunity because Darnell Mooney basically took his job like in week two or three. And so he finally has an opportunity because money's out and this is what he ends up doing. I mean, thrown out in the first minute what the first couple minutes of the The second half. Right. I mean, that was their first drive. That was the Bears first possession. At the end of that first possession in the first half, you get thrown out, You miss basically a whole half of football playoff game. You're right, Jeff. I mean, and it's a team that really could have used his ability. Even though it hasn't always come to fruition on the field. He had an opportunity. He's one of the few guys who does have the ability to be a playmaker when he's out there. Because we saw you know Javelins can't really you can't count on him. And so you don't have money out there and then Anthony Miller gets himself tossed. Remember being told how brilliant Ryan Pace was in 18 for trading up. In the second round to grab Anthony Miller. Wasn't that the whole thing about what a genius Marty's? How can we stop with how brilliant guys are with a draft on drafting? Wait Because you know you had a way, years. You gotta wait for five remembered able to analyze the draft. You know that. You know when, when some of us were saying, man Ryan really doesn't value. Draft capital too much. He's always wheeling and dealing, and now he moved up. Oh, you don't know what you're talking about Anthony Miller's a steel and it's such a brilliant move for them to go in trade next year's pick to get Anthony Miller Sure. Yeah, Let's stop. Let's knock the nonsense off on draft day, everybody he has the Kony's I mean, really, What a brilliant move to move up to number two draft Mitch Stravinsky, You know what's not brilliant. Spending five years on the job doing what? Six drafts. And you've drafted one quarterback. And the quarterback you drafted you traded up for Want to Shawn Watson and Patrick Mahomes. We're gonna go to the Hall of Fame behind him. That's what you did. I don't want to hear anything about Ryan Pace. The genius This is gonna go down is the guy that drafted Mandarich instead of Barry Sanders. Yeah, that's right. It's that bad. It's It's that bad. I won't be over Michael Jordan. It is and I don't want to hear and he's going to do another draft in April, and I don't want to hear about what a brilliant move it Woz and while yes would have Old moved to move up and trade next year. It's just stop. There haven't been brilliant moves. He's drafted one quarterback. One. It was the wrong quarterback. And now, as bears fans, we have to entrust him. Because he's going to stay way have to entrust him to draft The next right quarterback of the future. They better come away with the quarterback. It's like the most important thing they have to do in this offseason is somehow and they won't be picking in the top 10 come away with a quarterback. Three players after Mandarich, Very Sanders, Derrick Thomas and Deon Sanders. Yeah, that hurts Hall of Fame Hall of Fame Hall of Fame. So there you go. Show is in Mo Kina. Let's go to Joe. Good Morning, Joe. Morning, gents. How are you all doing? Pretty good. How are you going, buddy? I'm well, I'd be doing better if we came away with the W but I tell you Go back and look and Anthony Miller. He did definitely throw a shoulder and the Nagy? Um I never really felt comfortable the whole game. I just something was just uneasy. And when Things would go wrong for the Saints and kind of go our way. I'm like, okay, get a little bit of hope and then Something else would would go wrong, But I'll tell you the highlight of the game. Was, uh, sorry for the guys worn on twitch. But I turned out twitch right at the exact moment when you guys were talking about the boy's hanging outside the body, and I was rolling you guys jerk. Oh, Jesus. "Uh oh. The bear season is over, and even very optimistic Bears fans, I think knew that they were gonna be in tough and in deep in New Orleans this weekend. They hung around. I think a little bit longer than a lot of us thought or figured that they would. They should have had a lead early in the game. 7 3.5 time. Unfortunately, should've had a 10 7 lead. Unfortunately, they didn't what it could've showed up. It was a 73 game at halftime. It was a 73 game with about five minutes to go in the third quarter and then a bad penalty on Eddie Jackson, where not sure what thesis ain't were doing there if they were just trying to draw him offsides if they were going to go, but it's fourth down. It's 4003. So when offsides penalty is going to give the opposition automatic first down, and Eddie Jackson, one of your best players, supposedly supposedly hate is when you're one of the highest paid safeties in all of the National Football League, who had a really rough year, and maybe, in fairness that he's hurt. Maybe we're going to find out like Jamal Adams. He's got a bad shoulder. There's something wrong with him. I think because He don't want to make a tackle right here never been a good tackler, but he just didn't want to make them this year. I'm assuming there's some sort of an injury that we don't know about in fairness to Eddie, but did not have a good year, and you made a very undisciplined why we want to blame any Jackson on that specific play. Robert Queen was also off. As was Hicks the whole crew, So the whole crew was really offer they following Eddie's lead, They ceased to be action while he was the first one Queen Queen who hiccupped and then the reaction above. Hicks came instantaneously when Hicks gave himself a little bit of a hiccup on the same play, So I'm not gonna just land Bastardi Jackson. There were three guys jumping across the line. In that situation, So let's be fair when we lay blame on that situation, the other thing and the biggest thing in the games, Jovon wimps and the top touchdown. That's the biggest play. Mitch Stravinsky made a perfect throw. Perfect. I talked about special place. You're gonna bring this special place specifically out for that game that there was It was there for you. It was said it was ready. It was said to be completed. And then all of a sudden violence drops the ball. Did you notice the hints of interference? That was there you not until you pointed it out to me this morning. And I watched it on replacing. I took a look at it again last night. Divine winds is running the defensive back takes a dive, and when he does was click the right heel. Off John Williams. It catches the back of Jovon winds, legs. You know what happens? You're walking down the street. You trip What happens? Your arms Go out, right, believe it or not natural reactions. You trip your arms go out. One reason or another. I don't know why you lurch forward your arms go out. On that He flicks the hell it hits the back of his left leg. And literally, you watch his arms go out as the ball's coming through his chest is like, Oh, just that little play defensive play. Maybe he didn't think he was doing anything. He was just trying to unsettle him and unsettled him. Enough. We end up dropping the ball. He still dropped it. There's no excuse you drop it, but notice that little nuance If he didn't take a look at it, go back if you get a chance and take a look at it, and the next time you tripped, realized what you don't Isn't that crazy? Crazy? Something small like that could go ahead and do it. And with the lousy officials they had last night with those crappy officials they had last night. There's no way in hell anything like that was ever gonna be called. So I don't know that be called. Even with good officials. It was a drop off. It was a drop and needed to be caught The game. Maybe changes will never know. That's what you put a play. I mean, you like you. You put that plane who knows how long they've been working on that and that you save it for a moment like yesterday. And it works to perfection. Well, almost to perfection. If the ride receiver holds onto it works to perfection, But you know you've got Mitchell wide. You've got the Wildcat. You've got Patterson coming across. He gets the handoff. You're reversing it, But I mean, like it was beautiful. It was a thing of beauty was one of those 18 trick plays that look like boom. You did it. You dialed it up. Here we go. It was a great throw by Mitch. It was a dime 50 yards. It's a dime by Mitch and the guy doesn't hold on to it, and the rest is history. So we do want to take all your bears calls today and talk about what's next for this team. This is eight Nate the last two years. Yeah, they've added to the playoffs, so they sneak in this year because the NFC wasn't very good 10 and six You're out of the playoffs in the NFC and the A F. C. Excuse me the Bears or eight Nate? There's a 7 19. They both make the playoffs in the NFC. That's just the way it was. 18 82 the last two years. Is this team? Just, unfortunately Very mediocre right now. Do you see a path to them Truly getting better? I don't know that. I see it. You still have to go out and find a quarterback. You still have to figure out what you're doing with your best ride receiver. You still have wide receivers like Anthony Miller that are undisciplined and frustrate you from time to time. Jovon Whims hasn't taken the next step. We had hoped Riley Ridley hasn't taken the next step that we had to the Miller. That's what he said, did the deed. The defense is getting older and the defense costs a lot of money and isn't playing as well. You might be changing your defensive coordinator. Your left tackles a problem. Your left tackle is a big problem. Human turnstile. This is like, Oh, my God. Look at all the things that have to be fixed and corrected And can it happen in one off season? And is there truly a window anymore? After 2018? We're all pretty giddy As bears fans we felt like As fans. This franchise was entering into a championship window. We thought that there was going to be Uh, plenty to celebrate in the coming years. Even with how bitter and disappointing that loss was with the double doing in 2018, and there has been regression to just Very, very mediocre football the last two years and and under normal circumstances, they wouldn't have even made the playoffs this year. So what are they really? And has that window closed that window that we thought was wide open as it closed with nary a playoff win your co narrator what they've scored 27 points in two playoff games. Is that right? Under Matt Maggie. What? They scored 18 in the first one If I'm remembering correctly, what was the final of that first the longest without Philly? Whatever it was, What was it, Steven? I think they haven't gotten to 30. In two playoff games with Matt Nagy. John's Got a great point will take will take a bunch of calls when we come back. Next will stay on the clock here. I said the Bears lost 16 to 15 to the Eagles. So they say 15 14, okay? So that's it, 24 That's 24 points in two man Nagy playoff games. So is the window closed with nary a winning 24 total points. I think these are legitimate questions about the bears and how they can fix themselves going into the 2021 offseason. Our the 2020 off season 3123323776 Bears fans your chance to talk about the game yesterday. Grant. "Well, you know that way we can talk all we want about, you know, changes this and that a little bit of a history like the fortunes of this. This franchise change in 1979. When George palaces son dropped dead of a heart attack. That that's one of the cast is Became the stewards of this franchise, and we're on the 35th anniversary of the last Super Bowl. We've been mediocre at best. In the 35 years. I'm just looking at this and, you know, normally you would say a franchise like this. We gotta get lucky once in the once in a millennium. We had our chance. And we have a chance to draft to generational quarterbacks, and we picked the other one. So I don't see anything going to change. Yeah, maybe we'll bring in another person. And I know you can't fire ownership. I'm just trying to tell everybody is Just get ready for more of this, because it's not going to get any better. And I'm getting too old my life to think it's ever going to get better in my lifetime, So well, That's depressing Note. I'm gonna let you get away from letting me events a little bit tonight, do you? No. Come on. It's gonna be all right. Hang in there, buddy. I know it's tough, though. I mean, when your lifetime lifelong bears fan and just Can't seem to get over the hump because you look at franchises. You look at the camp. Kansas City was a Pittsburgh some of the story franchises. Uh, the NFL. They've been able to find ways to really be consistent now. They're not always gonna win the Super Bowl, but they're gonna There's not gonna be a dramatic fall off even when they go in a different direction with coaching and Bears this have not been able to find that that generational quarterback at least not drafted him, and they just continue to struggle and you know, I keep going back to it. It is so hard to win in the National Football League, and it's even harder to stay on top is an organization. But you can look around the league and you could see organizations and how they've been able to do it. And when you break it down, you know management allows their head coaches. That general manager is the run the program. They go out and get the right people drafted right people and They're able to go on a run much like you know, the New England Patriots have done and we now look at Kansas City and what they're doing, so it's hard to win, though it is very difficult to make that happen to get all those parts to come together at one time. "7.5 seems a little high, but it's It's on the number. So I think Tampa Bay wins. I think they probably roll. I am going to this game. The Ravens up against the Titans, I will be in the stands Sunday noon, Central time kick one Eastern I love the over. Titans can't stop anybody. They can get off the field on third down their offense is gonna have to score a lot of points. A J. Brown, Corey Davis, Derrick Henry John who Smith combined with Ryan Tannehill. I think both of these teams are going to score. It wouldn't shock me if they both put up 30. I like the over 54. I agree. This reminds me of Titans Texans last week in week 17. Yep. Bears going up against the Saints Bears After we talked about flipping teams, the Bears have turned into an offensive juggernaut with Mitch Stravinsky down the stretch the Saints starting around back into shape offensively, I like their defense, but Michael Thomas is coming back. Think they pull away this number fields loaded me at 47 a half. I'm on the over. Yeah, I got in my head. I probably just choose the Saint side. I would like to fade Chicago, but they're all the way out to 10, which is just a big number in the playoffs. It is a big number, but I think it's big for a reason. S o. I'm on the over, I think. Well, if you believe the saints are really going to get out ahead, then the over is a good play, too, because in the Bears, they're down 14 or 20 points, they'll likely stack up some points as well. But I like the over finally. Final pick of the out. Kick six Pack Browns at Steelers. This number is dipped down to 5.5 at Fanduel. I'm on the Steelers. I think that not having Stefanski is going to be a big deal for the Browns. I think you saw this a little bit. In the Clemson game against Ohio State. You can script early plays, but then when you have to start dynamically adjusting to what you're seeing on the field I think it's going to be harder for the Browns to do that without Stefanski there without the same coaching staff interaction that they would ordinarily have. So I've got the Steelers at minus 5.5 even as wobbly as the Steelers have been. I think they come out and play a good game. Get the win over the Browns. If there's one quarterback in this wild card round that I do not want to back without their offensive coordinator It's Baker. Maybe Yes, I think the Steelers is the only way to go in this game. We don't want Baker Mayfield going full Jonny Moxon and calling plays like in varsity blues out on the field that seems like it could be a recipe for disaster for the Browns. "Bootleg game. You know better defenses are going to find ways to make Mitch uncomfortable on this defense that they're going to play Sunday in New Orleans is going to find ways to make Mitch uncomfortable. And so now, if you're Mitch, if you're Matt and Bill later you have to make sure that when you're disrupted those don't become, you know, game losing mistakes, right that you don't just lose your mind and throw a bad pick our fumble. Uh, this this isn't another one of these defense is that's going to put Mitch Stravinsky's weaknesses on center stage. And he's going to have to work really, really hard, every single possession to make sure that he doesn't fall apart. Because they can challenge and they contest you and they can confuse what you're seeing. And we've talked between us for four years about how processing isn't necessarily. Mitch is strength there, right And so It's gonna be a major challenge Sunday. He's gonna have to play Probably his best game of the season for them have any chance and the states are gonna do everything within their power to make sure that doesn't happen. Well, what took so long for them to kind of figure out? How to really run the ball effectively dead. It's a combination off commitment, Carm, and then it just took them forever to find the offensive line combination that worked with what they wanted to do, and it's just You know, you can stop and say, boy, What would this season have been had they had the trial and error faces off a normal offseason of May and June that, with more traditional about late July in early August that were more traditional, would they have found answers? Quicker than week. 12 right, potentially, But that's not the world we live in. And so I think that that struggle to commit to the running game to understand that David Montgomery is a guy that can help you every single week. If you give him the right opportunities. It's a problem and it's got to be part of the evaluation this season because Guys. You remember the vibe in the city in June 2019 When that there's 100 convention ended and what everybody thought that that was the beginning of right? This was supposed to be three or four year run that championships. You were supposed to be a team that was Realistically dreaming the biggest dreams. And now here we are in January, 21, we've got 16 wins and 16 losses to look at right and a whole bunch of struggle missed in within there. And so that's why I say that this is playoff game lost some juice for me when they lost. Sunday to the Packers, and it just feels like even if they pulled off an upset Sunday. It would just be kind of a shrug, You know, So what? Because I don't think it's necessarily gonna tell us anything about the long term direction this franchise and that should be worrisome for everybody up the up. The chain of Helsel don't know money be able to play. We'll get a better idea today if he's able to practice I I know that ankle was not in good shape Sunday night, leaving Soldier Field and so you know, Anthony Miller's been another roller coaster. The first game against the Saints was probably his highest volume in terms of activity in terms of the ball coming his way. They play a lot of man coverage that can allow a guy like Anthony to use the skills. And so I think there's kind of Ah, sentiment brewing in Lake Forest that that Miller's gonna have to be a lot more active in this game plan, both because of what the Saints do, and because Money may not be able to be available for you on Sunday. Dan. Thanks. Enjoy the game, buddy. We appreciate it. You gotta use well understand Leader from the Tribune covers the Bears in the NFL. He is at the end Wieder on Twitter.
